A seamount is a mountain rising from the ocean seafloor that does not reach to the water’s surface (sea level), and thus is not an island. These are typically formed from extinct volcanoes, that rise abruptly and are usually found rising from the seafloor to 1,000-4,000 metres (3,000-13,000 ft) in height. They are defined by oceanographers as independent features that rise to at least 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) above the seafloor. The peaks are often found hundreds to thousands of metres below the surface, and are therefore considered to be within the deep sea.

There are an estimated 100,000 seamounts across the globe, with only a few having been studied. Seamounts come in all shapes and sizes, and follow a distinctive pattern of growth, activity, and death. In recent years, several active seamounts have been observed, for example Loihi in the Hawaiian Islands.

Because of their abundance, seamounts are one of the most common oceanic ecosystems in the world. Interactions between seamounts and underwater currents, as well as their elevated position in the water, attract plankton, corals, fish, and marine mammals alike. Their aggregational effect has been noted by the commercial fishing industry, and many seamounts support extensive fisheries. There are ongoing concerns on the negative impact of fishing on seamount ecosystems, and well-documented cases of stock decline, for example with the orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus). 95% of ecological damage is done by bottom trawling, which literally scrapes whole ecosystems off seamounts.

Because of their large numbers, many seamounts remain to be properly studied, and even mapped. Bathymetry and satellite altimetry are two technologies working to close the gap. There have been instances where naval vessels have collided with uncharted seamounts; for example, Muirfield Seamount is named after the ship that struck it in 1973. However, the greatest danger from seamounts are flank collapses; as they get older, extrusions seeping in the seamounts put pressure on their sides, causing landslides that have the potential to generate massive tsunamis.

Update of First Book “Tectonic Chaos” (1977)

Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 5 – Hail and Fire Mingled with Blood

Please take a look in our Birth Pang Figures found in our Archives for the several Figures referenced in this and other chapters in this updated 1977 book. Figure 3 shows the world’s tectonic plates. Figures 4 to 8 also apply to this chapter.

Revelation 8:7 – The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

Revelation 8:7 does not mix frozen hailstones with fire. It mixes large volcanic bombs (hail) and fiery blood-red lava. I believe what John witnessed was a worldwide pattern of volcanic eruptions around the edges of the tectonic plates.

This verse is a perfect description of a chain of volcanic eruptions. As the volcanic bombs (hail) are thrown great distances from the caldera vents, fires are started, and as the fiery lava moves across the surface of the earth it burns up everything in its path. I challenge you to view films of an actual eruption and then not believe this is what John saw in his vision from God. (See Archives – Birth Pang 3)

Revelation 8:8,9 – And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; [9] And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

A fuller, more descriptive, rendering of part of this verse from “The Bible in Basic English,” Dutton, 1950, Cambridge Press, is as follows: “It was as if a great mountain burning with fire had been cast into the sea.” Again, I believe the great fiery mountain that suddenly appeared in the sea would naturally have been assumed to come from above to the one abruptly seeing it there (See Archives – Birth Pang 4). This was the first of thousands that will be rapidly appearing along the plate borders of the tectonic plates, building up from the ocean sea floors to break the sea surface. The resultant action of rapid heating of the ocean above these volcanic vents will discolor one-third of the sea water into a murky rusty-red maze of aquatic death by the smothering effect of the basaltic hematite oxidation, and generate an ocean wide population explosion of dinoflagellate, which will produce the deadly red tide. The earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on the ocean and sea floors will produce the collapse and/or rise of segments of the ocean sea floor, and some massive sliding of parts of the coastal land mass into the oceans. And these actions will produce hundreds of Tsunami waves along those coastal areas of the world that have an abruptly rising coastline. (See Archives – Birth Pang 5) Furthermore, I assure you when the massive shifting of the tectonic plates begins, then this seismic wave action would destroy any ships in port. At any given time about two-thirds of the world’s shipping is under way on the open sea, and one-third is in port. The one third in port will be utterly destroyed by gigantic Tsunami waves like the coastal residents of the world have never seen.

Volcano grows at astounding rate

An astounding pulse of destruction and growth at an underwater volcano north of New Zealand has provided a new insight into the behaviour of submarine mountains.

The Monowai seamount, which lies at the intersection of the Pacific and Indo-Australian tectonic plates at the Tonga-Kermadec subduction zone, underwent one of the fastest episodes of volcano growth documented on Earth.

It added about 8.75 million cubic metres of rock to its summit – a volume equal to 3500 Olympic-size swimming pools – in just five days.

New lava flows raised that area by 79.1 metres, while part of the volcano’s summit collapsed by as much as 18.8 metres. Most striking was the creation of an entirely new volcanic cone.

The changes were measured by crew aboard the research vessel Sonne who had set out on a routine mapping expedition in the South Pacific last autumn.

Their findings have been published online in the journal Nature Geoscience. The article’s authors include GNS Science geologist and geochemist Cornel de Ronde.

As they surveyed the seafloor near Monowai seamount in mid-May 2011 the crew noticed yellow-green water and gas bubbles rising above the volcano.

As the ship was leaving the area, near Tonga, it went through a patch of discoloured water with a strong smell, like rotten eggs, Oxford University geologist Anthony Watts said.

While the ship was surveying another area, a seismic station in the Cook Islands detected an intense five-day swarm of seismic activity and traced it to an eruption at Monowai seamount, MSNBC reported.

Watts and the ship returned in early June to find that part of the Monowai volcano had collapsed and another part had grown in dramatic fashion.

The new material lifting the peak was most likely magma that had erupted and hardened the week before, Watts, who led the study, said.

The rapid changes at Monowai suggest that the volcano grows and collapses in dramatic pulses.

Submarine volcanoes such as Monowai were much more difficult to study than volcanoes on land. Because so little was known about submarine volcanoes, it was unclear whether others also grew in rapid pulses, Watts said.

Had the ship been in the area of the volcano at the time of the eruption it could have been potentially dangerous, Watts told the BBC.

“If we had been over the volcano during the eruption, rocks could have hit the hull of the ship.”

The researchers believe the changes are larger than at most other volcanoes. Only Vesuvius and Mount St Helens have recorded larger growth rates.

The paper said the speed of growth and change was “a reminder of how rapidly geological processes such as submarine landsliding and volcanism can occur”.

“Any movement on the seabed has the potential to create a tsunami. An earthquake suddenly dislocates the seabed. Here a violent disturbance lasted five days with magma oozing out which might be too slow to trigger a tsunami – but it’s unknown,” Watts said.

WHAT IS THE NATIONALITY OF THE ANTICHRIST?

Part 5

Micah 5:1-4 – Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. [2] But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. [3] Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. [4] And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

These verses, exposited in Parts 1 through 4, were written more than 700 years before the birth of Christ. And yet they present: Bethlehem as His birthplace, His rejection as ruler over Israel, His last Passover in the daughter of troops Jerusalem, His head beatings by the troops of Pontius Pilate, Herod, and the High Priest, His rejection as the judge of Israel, His Father’s siege against Israel because of their rejection of the Son (which has lasted some 2000 years), Christ’s temporary rejection of Israel, His Second Advent as Messiah after Israel’s travail of 1260 days in the Negev Wilderness, at which time His brethren will return with Him to the nation of Israel, and the first 1000 years of His eternal kingdom, which phases into the final heaven age when the present earth and heavens pass away.

Micah 5:5 – And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

Now, in verse 5, we find that “this man” will himself “be the peace” because He personally brings it in by Himself when he returns to be “great unto the ends of the earth” for 1000 years. “This man” who brings “the peace” of a thousand years is, of course, Jesus Christ. He is the primary contextual subject from verses 1 through 5. What happens to motivate His return to bring in the millennial reign is the movement of the Assyrian into the land of Israel. It is the final defeat and destruction of “the Assyrian” that will mark Christ’s Second Advent, and the beginning of His millennial reign.

When Micah wrote his prophecies the Assyrians had already driven into the northern Kingdom of Israel, and all that remained of Israel proper was its southern Kingdom of Judah. So what were the borders of the land of Assyria when Micah wrote the fifth chapter of his book? The borders of the Assyrian territory stretched northward from roughly where Ramallah is located in the West Bank to the present day southern border of Turkey, and eastward to the Mediterranean Sea to establish its western limits, then westward across the Euphrates River to the Tigris River north of modern Baghdad in Iraq. Technically, I suppose one might be able to say this future “Assyrian” might come out of southern Turkey, northern Iraq, or Lebanon, but since modern day Syria occupies some 85% of the area covered by the Assyrian empire at the time of Micah’s writings, I am persuaded the Assyrian antichrist will come out of Syria. The possible argument that Micah 5:5 was fulfilled during the old Assyrian invasion of Micah’s day, is thwarted by the context pattern of the four verses before it all still being unfulfilled at the time they were written, and then being linked contextually to verse 5 by “this man,” and “the peace.” Additionally, this argument is smashed by the verse that follows it.

Micah 5:6 – And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

From the time of Micah’s writings to the present day, Israel has never “wasted the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof.” I will exposit specifically on both these locations in Prophecy Update Number 67, Lord willing.

The “Assyrian” of Micah 5:5 is not a European, an American, a Russian, an Eskimo, an Aborigine, an Ethiopian, or a platypus. He is an Assyrian, who becomes chief prince of the land where the descendants of Meshech and Tubal were dwelling when Ezekiel wrote his prophecies. I will elaborate on this in future updates, Lord willing. The expression involving “seven shepherds and eight principal men” is most assuredly an oft used Hebrew idiom. It was the Hebrew manner of expressing “more than enough.” Seven is the Hebrew word for “complete,” implying “enough,” and when “eight” is added to it, the expression means “more than enough.” When the Assyrian comes into Israel, and treads within its borders north of Beersheba for 1260 days, then Jesus will return to restore peace for 1000 years on this planet. Christ’s Second Advent is accompanied by some 5/6 of the Assyrian’s armies being destroyed by the brightness of His coming. His destruction of the Assyrian and his false prophet will make whatever force Israel is able to muster up in the Negev for the battle of Armageddon “more than enough.”

When the Assyrian sets on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, as the willful King of the North preparing to launch his final attack on Israel at the battle of Armageddon, he will be beyond all help by men and Satan.

In summary, Assyrians were called “Athourayeh” and “Ashurayeh” (Assurayeh). With the dropping of the first syllable (A) we began to call ourselves “Surayeh”. “I was only a child when the Great War broke out in 1914, but I had already begun to perceive and comprehend. The first thing that suddenly occurred to me, having witnessed, felt and actually experienced the affliction of my people, was this question: What was it that brought all this woe to my people?”

So wrote Antoun Saadeh, one of the Arab World’s most prolific nationalists, from prison in 1935.

Born in 1904 in Mount Lebanon, Saadeh’s political philosophy was shaped by the climate in which it developed.

War, plagues, famine

When World War I broke out in 1914, Lebanon’s Ottoman rulers imposed compulsory military service with an extortionate exemption tax that led many into the path of usurers.

Jamal Pasha, the Ottoman envoy who was sometimes referred to as the ‘Butcher’, publicly executed independence activists between 1914 and 1916, while by the end of the war, famine – caused in large part by Ottoman commandeering of food supplies – had killed an estimated 100,000 people in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

Plagues and an invasion of locusts aggravated the situation as dead – and sometimes barely alive – bodies were piled in the streets for the municipality to cart away.

With the Ottoman defeat in 1918, the Arabs saw their lands divided into French and British ‘zones of influence’ in accordance with the Sykes-Picot accords of 1916.

Lebanon became a French mandate and in September 1920, the frontiers of modern-day Lebanon were re-drawn.

Against this backdrop, Saadeh completed his education and left Lebanon, first for the US, and a year later in 1921, for Brazil, where he joined his father, Khalil Saadeh, a respected Arabic-language journalist.

Greater Syria

Saadeh’s political views continued to take form, his concerns revolving around the “chronic political problem that seems to drive my people from one adversity into another, constantly delivering it from a lesser evil to make it an easy pray to a greater one”.

He argued for the creation of a united Syrian nation in the lands that formed historic or Greater Syria – Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Cyprus. In such a bold proposal, he deviated from traditional Arabists and Lebanese nationalists. He later included Iraq in this desired Syrian nation.

Geography – not language, ethnicity or religion – was the defining characteristic of a nation, according to Saadeh.

He maintained that Syria was historically, culturally and geographically distinct from the rest of the Arab world.

Social Nationalism

After a brief spell in Damascus, he returned to Beirut in 1932, taking a position at the American University of Beirut.

In the same year, he founded the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP).

As well as proposing the formation of a Greater Syria, the SSNP also posited the complete separation of religion and politics as a fundamental condition for real national unity.

Historian Kamal Salibi suggests that for the Greek Orthodox community, of which Saadeh was a member, “the concept of pan-Syrianism was more meaningful than the concept of Arabism”.

For the first three years of its existence the party operated underground, and when it eventually began overt activity in 1935, Saadeh was repeatedly harassed and imprisoned.
In 1938 he fled to Brazil and then to Argentina.

Revolution and execution

Saadeh returned to Lebanon in 1947, after the country’s independence from France.

In 1949, after the cancellation of legislative elections, the SSNP attempted a coup d’etat.

The revolt failed and Saadeh fled to Syria to meet Husni el-Zaim, the Syrian military dictator who had previously agreed to support him, but el-Zaim handed him over to the Lebanese authorities.

Within 48 hours of being captured, Saadeh and many of his followers were tried by a military court and executed.

Saadeh’s ideas and the party he founded would go on to play an influential role – sometimes revolutionary but predominantly ideological – in the turbulent politics of Lebanon and Syria throughout the course of the 20th century.

Businessmen, merchants and manufacturers now are backing the revolution and are offering financial and spiritual aid, while others have fled the country and are attempting to pressure the regime, either via media appearances or by publicly siding with the governments championing the Syrian revolution.

The economic defections will serve as a new source of pressure against the regime, representing a genuine dilemma for the Syrian regime whose options are disappearing and whose support base is shrinking.

Tripoli clashes after direct orders from Assad to Lebanese army

Syrian ruler Bashar Assad is no longer relying on Iranian agents in Lebanon and Hizballah to lead the covert war against his Western and Arab foes. DEBKAfile’s military sources disclose that he is now issuing direct instructions to the Lebanese army (56,000 men) on their roles in operations for suppressing the Syrian uprising.

The immediate result was a flare-up of armed hostilities in the mixed northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. Since Saturday, May 12, the various armed groups and sects have been at each other’s throats: the local Alawites who side with the Syrian ruler and the Lebanese Army on the one side, but separate, and Sunni groups led by former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, his Al-Mustaqbal and Salafite militias, on the other.

The Lebanese army is keeping the numbers of fatalities quiet, admitting to only three, hoping to keep the unrest in the sectarian war-prone country under control. But Monday, one person was killed and 10 injured in early morning fighting.

Our military sources report that the clashes in Tripoli are an offshoot of the six-month bloody contest between Assad’s tanks and rebel forces in the Syrian city of Homs. Lebanese Sunni elements have been pumping fighters, arms, money, medicines and food to beleaguered rebel forces in Homs.

Saad Hariri, a Sunni leader, has sworn to topple Assad whose agents assassinated his father, the former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, in 2005. His Al-Mustaqbal group has established a forward command in Tripoli to provide the Syrian rebels with logistical backing.

Then, there are the Salafist militias commanded by Sheikh Shadi Al-Mawlawi which aid Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda elements in Syria. They distribute the arms, ammunition, money and inside intelligence supplied them by Saudi and Qatari security agencies.

To cut the Syrian rebels’ lifeline at source, the Syrian General Staff in Damascus last week sent the Lebanese Chief of Staff Gen. Jean Kahwagi a crude ultimatum: Take care of the Syrian rebels’ helpers in Tripoli, or else the Syrian army will enter Lebanon and do the job itself.

In response, the Lebanese General Security Department began rounding up key Sunni figures actively supporting Syrian rebels. Saturday, the Salafist sheikh Al-Mawlawi was placed in custody on charges of “terrorist operations.”

The Sunni militias, aware that the Lebanese security officers had acted on orders from Damascus rather than Beirut, then turned on Assad’s Alawite sympathizers in Tripoli force an end to the arrests and the release of detainees.

Sunday, Hariri’s outfit demanded that Prime Minister Nabil Miqati resign for failing to stop the bloodshed in Tripoli – and indirectly implying that he must stop playing ball with Damascus. He rejected Miqati statement that a decision was taken by national government in Beirut “not to provide political cover for any security violator in the northern city of Tripoli.”

To stem the flow of war materiel to the rebels, Assad’s border units are also subjecting Lebanese border villages to frequent cross-border shelling, supported on the other side by Hizballah under joint Syrian command.

VIENNA – The UN atomic watchdog will press its demand for access to an Iranian military site in talks starting on Monday that could influence the prospects for a broader diplomatic push to settle the decade-old stand-off over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

The May 14-15 meeting in Vienna will test Iran’s readiness to address UN inspectors’ suspicions of military links to its nuclear program, ahead of high-stakes talks in Baghdad next week between six world powers and the Islamic Republic.

The powers “would certainly take it as an encouraging sign” if Iran started to give credible answers to questions the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has about the nature of Tehran’s nuclear work, a Western diplomat said.

But failure or success in Vienna “doesn’t necessarily predict” such an outcome at the meeting in the Iraqi capital on May 23, the envoy added.

Earlier Sunday, Iran warned Western powers that applying pressure on Tehran could jeopardize talks on its nuclear program, state television reported.

“The era of a pressure strategy is ended. Any strategic miscalculations would endanger success at the Baghdad negotiations,” said Saeed Jalili, Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, quoted by state television.

Iran and the powers involved in nuclear diplomacy – the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany – revived negotiations in Istanbul last month after a 15-month hiatus and both sides say they hope for progress in Baghdad.

The resumption of diplomacy offers a chance to defuse soaring tension that has raised fear of a new Middle East war.

The West suspects Iran is seeking to develop the capability to make nuclear bombs although intelligence officials believe Tedran has not made a decision whether to actually build them.

The Islamic Republic, one of the world’s largest oil producers, says its atomic program is a peaceful push to generate more electricity for a rapidly growing population.

Israel – widely believed to hold the Middle East’s only nuclear arsenal – and the United States have not ruled out military action to prevent Iran from obtaining atomic bombs if negotiations fail to achieve this objective peacefully.

The IAEA wants Iranian officials to address questions raised in its report last year that revealed intelligence pointing to past and possibly ongoing research activity in Iran of use in developing the means and technologies needed to build atom arms.

Two previous meetings between Iran and the IAEA in Tehran early this year failed to make any notable progress.

The UN agency’s document published in November lent independent weight to Western allegations about Tehran’s nuclear agenda and helped pave the ground for a significant ratcheting up of US and European sanctions to block its oil exports.

One finding in the report was information that Iran in 2000 had built a large containment chamber at Parchin – a military complex southeast of Tehran – in which to conduct high-explosives tests that the IAEA said are “strong indicators of possible (nuclear) weapon development”.

Iran has rejected the accusations as fabricated but so far has not granted repeated requests by the UN agency to visit the place. IAEA head Yukiya Amano says the issue is a “priority” for his team of senior officials in this week’s discussions.

An image said to come from inside an Iranian military site shows an explosives containment chamber of the type needed for nuclear arms-related tests that UN inspectors suspect Tehran has conducted at the site.

Iran denies such testing and has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of such a chamber.

The image was provided to The Associated Press by an official of a country tracking Iran’s nuclear program who said the drawing proves the structure exists, despite Tehran’s refusal to acknowledge it.

The official said he could not discuss the drawing’s origins beyond that it was based on information from a person who had seen the chamber at the Parchin military site, adding that going into detail would endanger the life of that informant. His country, a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is severely critical of Iran’s assertions that its nuclear activities are peaceful and asserts they are a springboard for making atomic arms.

A former senior IAEA official said he believes the drawing is accurate. Olli Heinonen, until last year the U.N. nuclear agency’s deputy director general in charge of the Iran file, said it was “very similar” to a photo he recently saw that he believes to be the pressure chamber the IAEA suspects is at Parchin. He said even the colors of the drawing matched that of the photo.

After months of being rebuffed, IAEA and Iranian officials meet starting Monday in Vienna, and the IAEA will renew its attempt to gain access to the chamber, allegedly hidden in a building. Any evidence that Iran is hiding such an explosives containment tank, and details on how it functions, is significant for IAEA investigations.

Beyond IAEA hopes of progress, that two-day meeting is being closely watched by six powers trying to persuade Iran to make nuclear concessions aimed at reducing fears that it may want to develop atomic arms as a mood-setter for May 23 talks between the six and Tehran in Baghdad.

Warnings by Israel that it may attack Iran’s nuclear facilities eased after Iran and the six – the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany – met last month and agreed there was enough common will for the Baghdad round. But with the Jewish state saying it is determined to stop Iran before it develops the capacity to build nuclear weapons, failure at the Iraq talks could turn such threats into reality.

The IAEA has been stonewalled by Iran for more than four years in attempts to probe what it says is intelligence from member states strongly suggesting that Iran secretly worked on developing nuclear weapons.

It first mentioned the suspected existence of the chamber in a November report that described “a large explosives containment vessel” for experiments on triggering a nuclear explosion, adding that it had satellite images “consistent with this information.”

It did not detail what the images showed. But a senior diplomat familiar with the IAEA’s investigation who has also seen the image provided to the AP said they revealed a cylinder similar to the image at Parchin. Subsequent photos showed a roof and walls going up around the cylinder that then hid the chamber from satellite surveillance.

IAEA chief Yukiya Amano said in March that his agency has “credible information that indicates that Iran engaged in activities relevant to the development of nuclear explosive devices” at the site. Diplomats subsequently told the AP that the experiments also appear to have involved a small prototype neutron device used to spark a nuclear explosion – equipment that would be tested only if a country was trying to develop atomic weapons.

Iran has strenuously denied conducting such work … and any intentions to build nuclear weapons … but has been less clear on whether the structure where it allegedly took place exists.

The senior diplomat familiar with the IAEA investigations said the Iranians have refused to comment “one way or the other” on that issue to agency experts. He and others interviewed by the AP demanded anonymity because their information was privileged, and the official providing the drawing and other details on the structure also demanded that he and his country not be identified in return for sharing classified intelligence.

Attempts to get Iranian comment were unsuccessful. A copy of the diagram was attached to an email sent to Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran’s chief delegate to the IAEA, with a note that the AP would be asking for reaction. Subsequent phone calls over the weekend went to his voice mail.

The technology used for the suspected multipoint explosives trigger experiments is similar to that employed in manufacturing tiny industrialized diamonds, and the IAEA believes former Soviet scientist Vyacheslav Danilenko – an expert in such diamond-making – helped Iran with designing the chamber.

Diplomats say Danilenko has told the agency that he did not work on such a chamber, but his son in law, identified by the diplomats as Vladimir Padalko, told the IAEA that the container was built under Danilenko’s direct supervision. Repeated attempts by the AP and other media organizations to contact the two men have been unsuccessful since the IAEA revealed Danilenko’s suspected involvement in November.

Origins

Built in the early 2000s by Azar AB Industries Co. in the city of Arak and then transported to Parchin. Both the senior diplomat familiar with the IAEA investigations and Heinonen, the former senior IAEA official, confirmed this. Company officials did not answer calls seeking comment.

Size

Volume: 300 cubic meters, or about 10,600 feet. Diameter: 4.6 meters, or 15.09 feet. Length: 18. 8 meters, or 61.68 feet. The senior diplomat confirmed the measurements.

Equipped with

A vacuum pump used to remove air from the chamber to minimize pressure that could damage the structure during an explosion; a compressor that shoots water into the chamber after testing to flood and clean it; a septic tank that receives the waste; an elevation system to suspend the explosives in the upper part of the chamber during testing; and a neutron detection system outside the explosion chamber to measure neutron emissions. The senior diplomat said these features would make sense, or such testing, but could not verify they existed, suggesting they may have been added after the Iranians put up the superstructure shielding the chamber from satellite surveillance.

Time frame

The official said the chamber was used for detonation experiments in 2003, 2005 and 2006. Two officials familiar with the investigations said the first date appeared to be valid but they had no information of subsequent experiments. The United States believes Iran stopped working on a concerted nuclear weapons program at various sites after 2003, while the IAEA suspects Tehran is continuing some work but in a much less organized way than before 2003.

The scientists

Seyed Ashgar Hashemi-Tabar, described as “an expert in measuring detonation phenomena” and not previously identified. Acting on information from the same official, the AP previously named other scientists allegedly involved as Fereydoun Abbasi, the current head of Iran’s nuclear agency, who escaped an assassination attempt in 2010; Darious Rezainejad, who was killed by a car bomb last year; and Reza Ibrahimi.

Inspecting the site at Parchin, southeast of the capital, Tehran, was a key request made by senior IAEA teams that visited Tehran in January and February. Iran rebuffed those demands and subsequent ones — the most recent within the last two weeks — as well as attempts by the nuclear agency to question Iranian officials and secure other information linked to the allegations of secret weapons work.

At the same time, the IAEA has voiced alarm at unexplained “activity” at the site — a term diplomats familiar with the agency’s concerns say stands for attempts to clean up any evidence of the kinds of experiments the agency suspects were carried out.

A second senior diplomat familiar with the investigation recently told the AP that spy satellite images shared with the agency show what seems to be water streaming from the building housing the chamber. He said it also depicts workers removing bags of material from that building and put on vehicles outside.

A third senior diplomat said that the apparent cleanup was continuing in early May, the last time he had seen the images.

Iran has scoffed at suggestions of a cleanup in general and of testing a neutron device in particular, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mahmanparast asserting that nuclear contamination cannot be washed away. But experts challenge that assertion.

A cleanup “could involve grinding down the surfaces inside the building, collecting the dust and then washing the area thoroughly,” said David Albright, whose Institute for Science and International Security in Washington looks for signs of nuclear proliferation. “This could be followed with new building materials and paint.

“It could also involve removing any dirt around the building thought to contain contaminants,” Albright said in a statement emailed to selected recipients. “These types of activities could be effective in defeating environmental sampling.”

More than 60 nuclear experts at work building Iranian nuclear bomb

The names and addresses of 60 Iranian experts employed by 11 different Iranian agencies under the control of the Iranian Defense Ministry were revealed Saturday, May 12, by the main Iranian opposition Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI). This is the first time an extensive, highly secret, central organizational structure dedicated to building a nuclear weapon has been revealed in detail – specifically the Ministry of Defense under the command of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, which also runs the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant.

The information updated to April 2012 was provided by “sources within the Iranian regime’s agencies, including military institutions.”

It contradicts the fundamental conclusion reached by the US and five world powers and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – that Iran’s nuclear program is not run by a single organization – on the basis of which they entered into negotiation with Tehran. Most of all, it refutes another key argument heard in the West that Iran has not yet decided to actually build a weapon because Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei’s said it would be a “sin.”

The Mujahedin-e Khalq, which Tehran accuses of collaborating with US and Israeli intelligence to assassinate its nuclear scientists, clearly timed the publication of its findings for 11 days before the Six Powers were due to hold a second round of nuclear talks with Iran in Baghdad on May 23, DEBKAfile’s intelligence and Iranian sources report.

Ahead of the meeting, US administration sources put about word that a compromise deal developed in the direct backdoor channel between Washington and Tehran had a good chance of coming before the meeting. It was said to consist of three points of accord: Allowing uranium enrichment up to 5 percent purity to continue; barring enrichment up to 20 percent (effectively discontinuing work at Fordow); and exporting Iran’s entire 20 percent in stock to prevent its use for bomb production.

According to DEBKAfiles’s Iranian intelligence sources, there is no such deal: Tehran is not willing either to stop 20 percent uranium enrichment or shut down the Fordow plant. Just the opposite: DEBKA-A-Net-Weekly, the only Western publication following the secret US-Iranian negotiations, last week quoted a message from Khamenei to President Barack Obama flatly refusing to close Fordow, whose sole purpose is the production of 20 percent grade uranium which brings the fuel a short step before weapons grade.

After procuring Washington’s consent to 5 percent enrichment – over strong Israeli protests – Tehran has been encouraged to fight for 20 percent as well. The probable point of accord would be a ceiling on quantity.

Other American sources most recently explained their optimism about a successful culmination of the secret talks by Tehran’s admission for the first time that it was engaged in developing a nuclear weapon, which it hitherto denied. This laid the issue open to negotiation.

All in all, Jerusalem takes issue with US acceptance of the above deal as “bad for Israel.” It refuses to accept anything less than a complete halt of all uranium enrichment forthwith, the shutdown of Fordow and the removal of every scrap of enriched uranium from Iran.

This position was put firmly before the European Union Foreign Executive Catherine Ashton by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the heads of his unity government, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and designated Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, last Wednesday, May 9.

Hizballah rushes arms to Syria, Iran sets up security cameras in Damascus

The shocking impact of the twin explosions which killed 55 people and injured almost 400 in Damascus Thursday, May 10, galvanized Bashar Assad’s allies, starting with Iran, into frenetic activity. Within hours, Tehran had ordered its Lebanese proxy Hizballah to open up its arms stores and run quantities of weapons and military equipment across the border to the Syrian army – a striking reversal of the routine direction of arms supplies. Thursday night, Washington quietly asked Lebanese President Michel Suleiman to put a stop to the traffic.

While the Syrian opposition and Assad regime blamed each other – or al Qaeda – for the worst attack Damascus has seen in the 14-month uprising, it was obvious to both that it must have been the work of a major and very professional undercover agency.

In Tehran, Moscow and Beirut, the scale of the bombing attacks which leveled a key Syrian security headquarters was judged a sharp escalation in the offensive for President Assad’s overthrow – more intense even than the NATO campaign which last year removed the Libyan ruler Muammar Qaddafi.

DEBKAfile’s sources in Moscow say the event has consequently cast a dark shadow over relations between the Obama administration and Vladimir Putin at the outset of his third term as Russian president.

This week, Putin pointedly declined to attend the G-8 summit of world leaders meeting next week at the US presidential retreat of Camp David. He decided to send Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev over in his place.

The Russian president has three large bones to pick with Washington: a) He suspects American hands of stirring up opposition demonstrations against him during his election campaign; b) He is flat against the US missile shield going up in Europe and the Middle East to intercept Iran’s ballistic missiles; and c) He is solidly behind the Assad regime which he accuses the US of seeking to overthrow.

In its message to Beirut, the US reminded the Lebanese president that the transfer of war materials by Hizballah to Syria was a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 which ended the 206 Lebanon war between the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group and Israel. Arms transfers between Syria and Lebanon were banned in both directions. But his prohibition was never upheld. Regular arms consignments have been crossing into Lebanon for Hizballah from and via Syria for the past six years without any interference by the United Nations force UNIFIL stationed in South Lebanon.

Washington knows perfectly well that no one in Lebanon will stop the arms flow to Syria either. But the request to President Suleiman is intended to lay the ground for expanded international and US intervention in the Syrian conflict.

Another step Tehran took straight after the Damascus bombings to firm up the Assad regime was to start organizing a network of closed circuit security cameras to be installed in all parts of Damascus and its exits and entries for three functions:

1. Opponents of the regime will have less freedom of movement in the capital;

2. The army and security forces can economize on manpower for securing the city. Patrols will fan out after cameras register hostile or suspicion movements.

3. Syrian and allied intelligence services can keep track of UN monitors’ movements. The UN mission is regarded by Syria, Iran and Russia as “the eyes and ears of the West.”

Beset on two fronts, Bashar Assad rushed his elite Presidential Guard Division to Damascus Thursday, May 10, as two massive car bombs in the al Qaza district of Damascus demolished the command center of the Syrian military security service’s reconnaissance division, killing 55 people and injuring more than 300. Over to the southeast, 12,000 special operations troops from 17 nations, including the US and other NATO members, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, were poised on the Jordanian side of the Syrian border for an exercise codenamed “Eager Lion.”

DEBKAfile’s military sources also disclose that the bomb attack on Damascus was the most serious his regime had suffered against a military target since the 14-month Syrian uprising began. For the first time, Assad moved his most loyal unit, the Republican Guard Brigade, into central Damascus.
Western and Arab pressure is building up to an intolerable pitch for the Syrian president to step down and save his people from the descent into the ultimate agony of a full-blown civil war. It is coming from two directions:

1. Special forces units of the US, France, Britain, Canada and other NATO members have gathered in Jordan alongside Saudi, Jordanian and Qatari special units for a large-scale ten-day military exercise in Jordan starting May 15. The exercise was set up by the US Special Operations Command Central. It is the Obama administration message to the Islamic rulers of Iran, Bashar Assad and his Moscow backers, as well as its answer to the complaints from Arab and other Western governments that America is doing nothing to stop the horrors perpetrated in Syria. Since all 12,000 troops massed in Jordan are commandos, they stand ready at all times to cross the border into Syria if this is deemed necessary.

2. Syrian cities, especially the capital, are being targeted for violent bombing attacks designed to bring the Assad regime tumbling down. Behind these attacks are Persian Gulf emirates led by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources disclose they have been joined in the last few days for the first time by Turkey which is contributing intelligence input. The military pressure on the Assad regime is thus reinforced by a campaign of terror against its props. No connection is admitted between the multinational force on the Jordanian-Syrian border and the spate of bombings. However, if Saudi or Qatari intelligence did play a hand in the Damascus bombings, their special forces in Jordan will have been in the picture.

Twin suicide car bombs that exploded outside a military intelligence building in Damascus and killed 55 people, tossing mangled bodies in the street, were the deadliest attack against a regime target since the Syrian uprising began 14 months ago.

Thursday’s bombings fueled fears of a rising Islamic terrorist element among the forces seeking to oust President Bashar Assad and dealt a further blow to international efforts to end the bloodshed.

The first car bomb went off on a key six-lane highway during the morning rush hour, knocking down a security wall outside the government building and drawing people to the scene, witnesses said. A much larger blast soon followed, shaking the neighborhood, setting dozens of cars ablaze and sending up a gray mushroom cloud visible around the capital.

Syrian state TV video showed dozens of bodies, some charred or dismembered, strewn in the rubble or still inside damaged cars. An Associated Press reporter at the scene saw medics in rubber gloves picking through the site for human remains amid the two craters that were blasted into the asphalt.

The Interior Ministry, which oversees the police and security services, said 55 people were killed and more than 370 were wounded. Officials said suicide bombers detonated explosives weighing more than 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds).

“The house shook like it was an earthquake,” Maha Hijazi said, standing outside her home nearby.

World powers seeking to halt Syria’s unrest condemned the attack and urged all sides to adhere to a cease-fire brokered by UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.

The Obama administration condemned the attack and expressed concern that al-Qaeda may be increasingly taking advantage of the country’s prolonged instability.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told reporters that US intelligence indicates “an al-Qaeda presence in Syria,” but said the extent of its activity was unclear.

“Frankly we need to continue to do everything we can to determine what kind of influence they’re trying to exert there,” Panetta said. He also lamented that a month of efforts to implement a UN ceasefire plan haven’t worked.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said “the onus is on the Syrian authorities to implement a full cease-fire and begin the political dialogue required by the Annan plan,” while the UN Security Council said in a statement that “any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation.”

Maj. Gen. Robert Mood, the Norwegian head of a team of observers overseeing the cease-fire, toured the site and said the Syrian people do not deserve this “terrible violence.”

“It is not going to solve any problems,” he said. “It is only going to create more suffering for women and children.”

Annan, too, appealed for calm.

“The Syrian people have already suffered too much,” he said in a statement.

The blast was the largest and most deadly yet in a series of bombings targeting state security buildings since last December.

Most of these have been in Aleppo and Damascus, Syria’s two largest cities, which have generally stood by Assad since the popular uprising against his rule broke out in March 2011.

The government blamed the attack on armed terrorists it says are driving the uprising, which has grown into the strongest threat to the Assad family dynasty in its four decades in power.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent letters to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the head of the Security Council, asking the body “to take steps against states, parties and media outlets that practice and encourage terrorism,” Syria’s state news service said.

Syria’s UN ambassador, Bashar Ja’afari, told the Security Council that a second bombing in Aleppo on Thursday also killed civilians and damaged property.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said five intelligence officers were killed when a bomb targeted their car in Aleppo. It was unclear if this was the same event.

A leader of the Free Syrian Army, an umbrella group of anti-regime militias throughout the country, condemned the Damascus attack and denied the group was involved. Capt. Ammar al-Wawi accused the government of staging the attack to turn the world against the uprising.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but a shadowy militant group calling itself the Al-Nusra Front has claimed past attacks through statements on militant websites. Little is known about the group, although Western intelligence officials say it could be a front for al-Qaeda’s Iraq branch.

Ja’afari, Syria’s UN ambassador, argued that the bombings were evidence of “terrorist activities” by “groups and organizations affiliated with al-Qaeda.” He also claimed Syria has a list of “12 foreign terrorists” killed in Syria, including one French citizen, one British citizen and one Belgian citizen and he offered the list to the 15 Security Council members.

In Washington, Panetta said he had “no information” that al-Qaeda was involved in Thursday’s attacks, although he repeated previous statements that intelligence indicates the group does indeed have a presence in Syria.

The scope and mystery of the bombing raised fears that Syria’s unrest is transforming from an Arab Spring-inspired call for change into a bloody Iraq-style insurgency.

The uprising began with protests calling for political reform. The government swiftly cracked down, deploying tanks and troops to quash dissent, and many in the opposition took up arms. The UN said weeks ago that more than 9,000 had been killed. Hundreds more have died since then.

Annan’s peace plan calls for a ceasefire to allow for dialogue by all sides on a political solution. But daily violence has undermined the plan since the truce was supposed to begin April 12, with regime forces still shelling opposition areas and rebels attacking troops.

The bombings appeared to be beyond the capabilities of the known rebel groups, mostly made up of army defectors with light arms. One organizer denied that the rebels have the means or the will to plot such attacks.

“If we had the power to do this, we would have changed the equation a long time ago,” said the organizer, who identified himself only as Abu Mustafa, speaking by phone from northern Syria. “We built bombs with fertilizer and now we have a hard time even getting fertilizer.”

Some in the opposition blamed the Assad regime.

“It wants to convince the world that if the regime falls, only terrorism will remain,” said al-Wawi, of the Free Syrian Army.

Others said the size of the attack set it apart from previous bombings.

An activist who gave only his first name of Lawrence for fear of government reprisal said he heard the booms and felt his building in Damascus shake. While previous bombings in the capital made him suspect that the government somehow staged them, Thursday’s blast was different.

“Today, there is no doubt. This was not fabricated,” he said, adding that although he didn’t know who was behind the attack, he worried it would harm the opposition.

“This will certainly affect us, media-wise and internationally,” he said. “This is not to our advantage.”

The attack was the fifth to hit Damascus since December 2011, when a car bomb killed 44 people outside an intelligence compound.

On Jan. 6, an explosion at a Damascus intersection killed 26 people, many of them police. Two car bombs on March 17 killed at least 27 people, also near intelligence and security buildings. On April 27, an explosion killed nine security officers. Syrian officials said all were suicide attacks.

The New Testament canon as it is now was first listed by St. Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, in 367, in a letter written to his churches in Egypt, Festal Letter 39. Also cited is the Council of Rome, but not without controversy. That canon gained wider and wider recognition until it was accepted at the Third Council of Carthage in 397 and 419.

Mohammad lived from 570 to 632 AD, so he had access to non-printing press copies of the Old and New Testaments. He probably composed the Koran during the last 30 years of his life.

Homosexuality is listed under the Old Testament Abominations

Leviticus 20:13 – If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Leviticus 18:22-30 –Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. [23] Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Psalm 81:11-16 – But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. [12] So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels. [13] Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! [14] I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries. [15] The haters of the Lord should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever. [16] He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

[28] And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; [29] Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, [30] Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, [31] Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: [32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

I am not a man who believes in physical gay bashing. Neither do I judge gays. I am no longer under the rule of the Old Testament Law, neither am I a judge of it. It speaks for itself to all men. I believe what it says concerning judgment by individuals. I leave my judgment of homosexuals in the hands of God and concentrate on my own lusts in the flesh, which keeps me occupied.

Romans 1:32 to 2:6 – Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. [1] Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. [2] But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. [3] And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? [4] Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? [5] But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; [6] Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

Galatians 3:21-26 – Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. [22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. [23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. [24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. [26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

James 4:5-12 – Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? [6] But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. [7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [8] Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. [9] Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. [10] Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. [11] Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. [12] There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Please understand that I believe homosexual practice to be clearly identified as sinful by the God I worship, and teach it as precisely revealed by Him in both the Old and New Testaments. God will serve as the judge of both heterosexuals and homosexuals.

I do not approve of the ungodly lusts in my own heterosexual flesh or in the flesh of the homosexuals.

James 2:10,11 – For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [11] For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

Romans 7:23-25 – But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. [24] O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? [25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Because I have considered all the Scriptures on the subject of homosexuality that satisfies my conscience toward God, I

have come to the following conclusion.

I preach against the practice of homosexuality as an abomination to God. Non-church members where I pastor hear what I preach on it, but I stay out of their private lives.

The New Testament took the physical death penalty off the table for homosexuality, except by the judgment hand of God, not by the hand of man.

However, I believe it is biblically wrong for national or state legislators to vote to make same sex marriage legal, and will continue to state my opinion to that affect.

I do believe in separation of Church and State and, for this reason, I have a right to state my opinion and vote against those legislators who vote for same sex marriages.

Four things that President Obama is trying to tell Black People

After making the historic decision to announce his support for gay marriage, President Barack Obama has opened up a firestorm of conversation within the African American community. So, in order to help us understand some of this a bit more, I thought I’d give the Dr. Boyce interpretation of what President Obama is trying to say to black people:

1) I knew you were going to agree with me no matter what I said: As your elected president, I don’t work for you, you work for me. If I’d instead come out and said “gay marriage is immoral,” I am entirely sure that Al Sharpton, Earl Ofari Hutchinson and every other Obama Administration evangelist would be making statements that support that decision as well. Your so-called leaders simply repeat what I tell them to believe, for I am the captain of all ships, even when I don’t care enough to occupy the boat.

2) I spoke up for the gay community, because they matter to me more than you do: I know you’re going to give me your votes, no matter what. The only thing I could do that would cause me to lose the black vote is to (as Professor Michael Fauntroy says) divorce Michelle and marry a white woman. My support from the black community is as solid as a rock, no matter what policies I choose to endorse, but the gay community threatened to abandon me if I didn’t give them my backing. By the way, Michelle may be coming to the Essence Music Festival, and I’ll be on BET next month. I’ll be singing Al Green when I get there.

3) I know you have no choice but to give me your vote: What are you going to do? Vote for Mitt Romney? Even Romney has come out and supported a gay rights agenda in the past, but he has little interest in doing much of anything for black people. You know you have no other political options and I know this too. The catchphrase for 2012 Obama-ites should be “I don’t agree with everything Obama does, but…..” That’s similar to Christians who sin all week and say, “but nobody’s perfect,” or the woman who loves a man no matter how many times he cheats on her. Being selective in what you see or don’t see is a critical component of any relationship that is devoid of mutual standards, remember that.

4) I know that many of you don’t like gay people, but that’s your problem: Some of you blame the HIV epidemic among black women on the gay community. Many black women can easily forgive a man for being a diseased philanderer, but they would never forgive that man for being gay. Well, if there is anyone who can help you realize that Civil Rights weren’t just designed for black people, it might be me. Please refer to point three to remind you of why I don’t care what you think on this matter. I support gay rights, some of you don’t. But the bottom line is that preferential treatment will always exist because you have failed to impress me as a serious political constituency. I won you over a long time ago.

Iranian Ayatollah: Homosexuals Are Inferior to Animals

At an April 16, 2012 cleric convention in the Iranian city of Qom, senior ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli spoke against homosexuality and the Western practice of legalizing gay rights. He claimed that homosexuals brought AIDS, which is a punishment for their sins, upon human society, and that, according to the Koran, they are inferior to animals, as are those who grant them legal rights.

It should be mentioned that, in Iran, engaging in homosexual relations is an offences punishable by death.[1]An Iranian website explains that, according to the Koran, an individual over the age of 18 who has been convicted of homosexuality by an Islamic court must be executed by burning or by being thrown off a mountain.[2]

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in New York in 2007 that there are no homosexuals in Iran.[3]

Following are excerpts from the Ayatollah’s speech:[4]

Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli: According to the Koran, Homosexuals Are Inferior to Animals, as Are Those Who Legalize Their Rights

“…When a certain society commits a new sin, it brings a new agony upon itself. Problems like the AIDS [epidemic], and others like it, did not exist in history. It is not that they existed and people [simply] did not know the cure. Just as world events affect [humans], their actions affect the world and the events that take place in it…

“Lot said to his people: ‘You have committed sins unmatched in world history – [acts that have never been committed] in the animal kingdom, nor the demon [kingdom], nor in the [kingdom] of man.’ Even birds, predators, dogs and pigs do not commit such acts. According to the Koran, those who approve such actions in their parliament are inferior to animals.

“Man is not like an eternal angel, but must leave offspring. Allah almighty set marriage as the way [to ensure] human existence, and even made it pleasurable, so that man would enjoy it, just as He made eating pleasurable… Just as eating is necessary, and must be done in moderation, so is marriage necessary, and must be done in a reasonable manner…

The Koran… says of them [i.e. homosexuals] that they are inferior to animals. The Koran, the traditions, and the religious bans are what makes us human. True, we are not like the West in terms of industrial [progress]. But while they are more advanced [than us in this way], in terms of [sexuality] they are uncivilized. According to the Koran, their lives are lower than those of animals. Even dogs and pigs do not commit this heinous act (sodomy), which they legalize in their parliaments.”
