ISAIAH 11:10 – And in that day there shall be a ROOT of Jesse, which shall STAND for an ENSIGN of the PEOPLE; to IT shall the Gentiles SEEK: and HIS REST shall be glorious. (Root means to “shoot forth from the root”)

“HIS MILLENNIAL REST WILL BE GLORIOUS IN A 2ND GATHERING

ISRAEL’S GREATEST REGATHERING OCCURS AFTER 2ND ADVENT!

ISAIAH 11:11 – And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

ISRAEL 11:12 – And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

CONTINUED FROM PARTS 1 THROUGH 6

Isaiah 11:13 – The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

Romans 11:13-28 – For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: [14] If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. [15] For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? [16] For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. [17] And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; [18] Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. [19] Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. [20] Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: [21] For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. [22] Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. [23] And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. [24] For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? [25] For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. [26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: [27] For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. [28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.

Isaiah 2:1-5 – The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. [2] And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. [3] And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. [4] And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. [5] O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker calls on Maliki government to resign

Nujaifi calls for current government to resign, be replaced by smaller one made up of independent members who cannot stand in next elections.

BAGHDAD – Parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi called on Monday for the cabinet to resign and for early elections to be held, as a seven-day wave of violence killed more than 230 people in Iraq.

The initiative is aimed at “national reconciliation and maintaining the gains of democracy,” as well as “sparing the country from the spectre of civil war and sectarian strife,” Nujaifi’s office said in a statement.

Nujaifi, a Sunni and leading member of the secular, Sunni-backed Iraqiya bloc which has long been at odds with Shiite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, addressed the proposal to the heads of political parties represented in parliament.

He called for the current government to resign and be replaced by a smaller one made up of independent members who cannot stand in the next elections, for the electoral commission to prepare for early polls and for parliament to then be dissolved.

Nujaifi’s proposal came during a wave of violence that began on April 22 when security forces moved against Sunni anti-government protesters near the northern Sunni Arab town of Hawijah, sparking clashes that killed 53 people.

Subsequent unrest has killed dozens more and brought the seven-day death toll to more than 230 on Monday, raising fears of a return to all-out sectarian conflict.

So far this month, more than 450 people have been killed and over 1,150 wounded in violence across Iraq, according to figures based on security and medical sources.

5 car bombs kill 36 in Shiite areas across Iraq

Published – Apr 29 2013 08:10AM EST

SINAN SALAHEDDIN, Associated Press

BAGHDAD (AP) — Five car bombs struck in predominantly Shiite cities and districts in central and southern Iraq on Monday, killing 36 people and wounding dozens in the latest wave of violence roiling the country, Iraqi officials said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for Monday’s blasts but coordinated bombings in civilian areas are a favorite strategy used by al-Qaida in Iraq.

Since last Tuesday and including the latest deaths, at least 218 people have been killed in attacks and battles between gunmen and security forces that began with clashes at a Sunni protest camp in northern Iraq.

The deadliest attack on Monday was in the southern city of Amarah, where two parked car bombs went off simultaneously in the early morning near a gathering of construction workers and a market, killing 18 people and wounding 42, the police said.

That attack was followed by another parked car bomb explosion near a restaurant in the city of Diwaniyah, which killed nine people and wounded 23. At least three cars were left charred and twisted from the blast outside a two-story building whose facade was damaged in the bombing. Shop owners and cleaners were brushing debris off the bloodstained pavement.

Amarah, some 320 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Baghdad and Diwaniyah, 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of the capital, are heavily Shiite and usually peaceful.

Hours later, yet another car bomb went off in the Shiite city of Karbala, killing three civilians and wounding 14, police said. Two early Islamic figures revered by Shiites are buried in the city, about 90 kilometers (55 miles) south of Baghdad.

And in the otherwise predominantly Sunni town of Mahmoudiya, about 20 miles (30 kilometers) south of Baghdad, a car bomb ripped through a Shiite neighborhood killing six people and wounding 14, another police said.

Ibrahim Ali, a schoolteacher in Mahmoudiya, said he was with his students in the classroom when he heard a thunderous explosion.

“We asked the students to remain inside the classrooms because we were concerned with their safety,” Ali said. “The students were panicking and some of them started to cry,” added Ali. He described burnt bodies and cars on fire at the nearby blast site.

The school was closed for the rest of the day and frightened students were told to go home. “We have been expecting this violence against Shiites due to the rising sectarian tension in the country,” added Ali, the schoolteacher.

Four medical officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Sectarian violence has spiked since Tuesday, when security forces tried to make arrests at a Sunni Muslim protest camp in the northern city of Hawija. The move set off a clash that killed 23 people, including three soldiers.

In a sign of mounting worries over the deteriorating security situation, Iraqi authorities on Monday decided to close the country’s only border crossing with Jordan, beginning on Tuesday. A brief Interior Ministry statement didn’t elaborate on the decision, saying only it is “related to the country’s domestic affairs.”

Iraq shut the same border crossing in January, not long after anti-government protests erupted, citing unspecified security concerns. The route from Jordan passes through the overwhelmingly Sunni cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, west of Baghdad, which have been hotbeds of Sunni anger at the government. A protest camp straddling the Jordan-Iraq highway in Ramadi is the center of the protest movement.

On Sunday, the government suspended the operating licenses of pan-Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera and nine Iraqi TV channels after accusing them of escalating sectarian tensions in Iraq.

That move drew a strong criticism from some of the news outlets and a sharp rebuke from Human Rights Watch. Qatar-based Al-Jazeera said it was “astonished” by the move.

Apart from Al-Jazeera, the decision affected eight Sunni channels and a Shiite one. Al-Jazeera was founded with support from the tiny, energy-rich nation of Qatar, which is a leading backer of rebels fighting in neighboring Syria and is accused by many supporters of the Iraqi government of backing protests in Iraq too.

President Obama doesn’t really want to react to Assad’s crossing a chemical weapon use red line in Syria. He’d rather make another “knock the block off my shoulder double dare you” diplomatic dialog threat, but he is being forced to DO SOMETHING. He will do something, probably supplying rebels with surface to aircraft shoulder held missiles.

I don’t expect the President to put American boots on the ground in the Syrian Civil War. He MIGHT TRY to get NATO to put a “No-Fly” zone over Syria. He’s now under pressure by his liberal base to avoid another Iraq, Afghanistan, or Libya involvement.

Zechariah 14:8-12,16 – And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. [9] And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. [10] All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses. [11] And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited. [16] And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Ezekiel 47:1-5 – Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. [2] Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side. [3] And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ancles. [4] Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. [5] Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.

Joel 3:18 – And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

Obama’s non-response to Assad’s chemical weapons would encourage a nuclear Iran

DEBKAfile Special Report

April 26, 2013, 7:04 PM (GMT+02:00)

President Barack Obama faced a tough decision Friday, April 26, on how to handle Bashar Assad’s use of chemical weapons just a month after he warned it would be “game changer.”

The US intelligence community and the White House have now produced evidence that Assad has used chemical weapons against his own people and so crossed the red line Obama has repeatedly and publicly laid down for a US response. While extremely reluctant to embroil America in the Syrian war, those red lines would be discounted as meaningless by the world, the Middle East and Israel most of al, if he holds back now.

This loss of credibility and face would have three immediate consequences:

1. Assad will not stop using lethal chemicals against his people. After getting away with it scot-free, he will use them against any time he feels his regime has its back to the wall.

2. Tehran and Pyongyang will take US inaction on the Syrian chemical issue as a license to go forward and develop their nuclear and other sophisticated weapons without fear of forceful interference.

3. At some stage in the Syrian conflict, Assad will transfer to Hizballah a quantity of chemical weapons and other advanced war materiel as a reward for the Lebanese Shiite radicals’ stalwart battle in support of his regime. DEBKAfile’s military sources have learned that preparations are already in train for the transfer.

Thursday, Israeli Air Force F-16 warplanes shot down opposite Haifa a drone Hizballah had sent winging toward Israel, but no firm response followed this provocation. Assad and Hizballah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah will certainly be encouraged by this non-response to risk going forward with the transfer in the belief that Israel will not interfere. And, so, chemical weapons will be allowed to reach a confirmed terrorist organization.

The way the White House communicated its message to Congress Thursday is as instructive as its content:

The member of the White House staff chosen to frame the communication was Miguel Rodriguez, White House director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. It was couched in the language of a legal document rather than a policy statement on a high-powered foreign issue of the utmost military and strategic concern:

“Our intelligence community does assess, with varying degrees of confidence, that the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons on a small scale in Syria, specifically, the chemical agent sarin,” Rodriguez wrote.

“Given the stakes involved, and what we have learned from our own recent experiences, intelligence assessments alone are not sufficient – only credible and corroborated facts that provide us with some degree of certainty will guide our decision-making.”

For a pointer to how Obama may address a nuclear-armed Iran, this same document could be applied simply by substituting “The Islamic Republic of Iran” for the “Syrian regime” and “nuclear weapons” for “chemical weapons.”

The document also administered a cold shower from the boss for the two senior members of the Obama administration Thursday and their revelations Thursday.

Secretary of State John Kerry disposed of diplomatic ifs and buts when he said: The Syrian government has launched two chemical weapons attacks.

Somewhat more cautiously, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said: The US intelligence community has determined with “varying degrees of confidence” that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces have used the nerve agent sarin against civilians and forces fighting to remove Assad from power.”

Any use of chemical weapons, Hagel said, would violate standards of warfare.

The White House is informing Congress about the chemical weapons use now, Hagel said.

This was a reversal of the reservations the defense secretary had voiced that morning about the assessment heard from the Israeli military intelligence officer Brig. Gen. Itai Brun that the Syrian army had used chemical weapons.

DEBKAfile’s Washington sources report speculation in the US capital that the president may settle his dilemma with an indirect military response to the Syrian chemical crisis, by deploying US troops on the Jordanian-Syrian border. It would be hoped that Damascus, and Tehran too, would be deterred by seeing American troops in place and therefore in position for a military response to the use of – or advance toward – weapons of mass destruction.

This deployment was to be finally decided at the White House Friday when President Obama heard visiting Jordan’s King Abdullah voice acute concerns about the Syrian threat to his country.

UN calls for restraint in Iraq after days of clashes

April 27, 2013

The UN envoy to Iraq has called for restraint by all sides amid a wave of violence that has left more than 150 people dead since Tuesday.

Martin Kobler urged leaders “not to let anger win over peace”, warning that their country was “at a crossroads”.

Earlier, at least five people were killed by a series of bomb blasts at Sunni mosques in the capital, Baghdad.

Government forces also entered the northern town of Suleiman Beg, a day after it was seized by Sunni gunmen.

Officials said the gunmen had withdrawn after a deal with tribal leaders.

The incident followed clashes in several Iraqi towns and cities, which were sparked by an army raid on an anti-government protest camp near another northern town, Hawija, on Tuesday that left 50 people dead.

Although the violence is below the heights of the insurgency in 2006 and 2007, it is the most widespread since US troops withdrew in 2011.

Cleric’s warning

Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, a Shia whose resignation the protesters in Hawija had demanded, has said Iraq is in danger of returning to “sectarian civil war”.

The warning was echoed on Friday by Mr Kobler, who said: “I call on the conscience of all religious and political leaders not to let anger win over peace, and to use their wisdom, because the country is at a crossroads.”

Tens of thousands of Sunnis took to the streets of the towns of Ramadi and Falluja, in the western province of Anbar, following Friday prayers to express their anger at the alleged targeting of their community.

In Ramadi, a cleric wearing military uniform gave security forces 24 hours to leave the town, warning that he would not be responsible for what happened after that, according to the Reuters news agency.

Meanwhile, a bomb exploded outside a Sunni mosque in a southern district of Baghdad, killing four worshippers at the end of Friday prayers.

Minutes later, at least one other person was killed by another blast near a mosque in the Rashidiya area, 20km (12 miles) north of the capital.

A soldier was also killed in a third bombing outside a Sunni mosque in the north-eastern Shaab district of Baghdad, according to Reuters. A bomb also reportedly killed one person outside a Shia mosque nearby.

SPECIAL PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 114B

How Will the New Iraq Fit in the Prophetic Pattern?

I have had several queries as to how I thought the new Iraqi would fit into future Middle East prophetic events. I cannot tell you how relieved I am to see a new regime coming into Iraq. In Prophecy Update 80A, August 11, 2002, titled, “Saddam Hussein – Middle East Wild Card,” I outlined my frustration as to his unpredictability, and the rest of the title, “Why the U.S. is Determined to Replace Him!,” has now borne fruit. In Prophecy Update Number 80B, August 12, titled, “Another Iraqi Attack Indicator?,” I showed something the U.S. was doing in Israel that was a prelude to the eventual attack against Iraqi.

In reality, the new Iraqi regime will eventually develop a much better relationship with Iran and Syria than Saddam. But make no mistake, the Islamic mindset of the new regime may outwardly seem to be amenable toward Israel, but eventually they must regress to their inward true Arab desire to see Israel driven into the sea. In Prophecy Update 81A, I first discussed a border meeting between Saddam and Bashar Assad, the Syrian President. I have a sneaky suspicion the meeting involved the concealment of Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction under the border zone between Syria and Iraq.

Update 81A, dated August 17, 2002, and titled “More ‘Strategic Dialogue’ Among the 10 Toes,” may be read in our Prophecy Archives at the top of this page. It gives the insight as to how the new regime will eventually be linked into the final 10 toes of the great statue of Nebuchadnezzar in the second chapter of Daniel.

Daniel 2:41-44 – And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. [42] And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. [44] And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

EXCERPT 2

SPECIAL PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 114C

April 7, 2003

Iraq – A Biblical Land of Conquerors and Confusion

The post Saddam government’s character and temperament cannot be expected to maintain a personality that manifests a long-term gratitude for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Its history dictates that initial expressions of thanksgiving must slowly, but surely, return to the standard Islamic attitude toward the big devil United States, and the little devil Israel. It will never degenerate to the Saddam regime madness, but Iraq will be among the 10 nations that attacks Israel some three and on-half years before the final battle of Armageddon.

The new civilian government, which will eventually be installed, will have a violent mixture of the intermingled blood of the 12 sons of Ishmael (the first son of Abraham), the six sons of Keturah by Abraham, and the two sons of Lot (Abraham’s nephew). The first post flood population in the Iraq area was ruled by Noah’s great grandson, Nimrod, who the son of Cush, the son of Ham. Asshur, the grandson of Shem, the son of Noah, peopled the northern part. So, in this area you have the intermingled blood of the descendants of all the aforementioned ancestors. As a matter of fact, the word translated as “mingled” in Daniel 2:43 is “Arab.” The seed of all these ancestors has certainly been “mingled” in the production of offspring, but they have not been able to cleave together continuously except under the control of a very strong leader, and then only for a relatively short period of time. The great Assyrian warrior kings of 800 to 600 B.C., followed by the great Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar, and the famous Kurd Saladin from northern Iraq, who united the mingled tribes to drive the crusaders out of Jerusalem in 1187, have shown that only a strong-willed ruler can unite them, and then only for a specific purpose of conquest, which is invariably followed by a period of empire decay as the cleavage of many different bloodlines crumbles. The coming antichrist will be able to unite them for a while, but in the end they will break apart. He will be like Nimrod in character.

Daniel 11:36 – And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

Daniel 2:42,43 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

I have always taught that I believed the antichrist would come out of Syria (See Prophecy Updates 62,63,64,65,66,67,68, and 69), but I have repeatedly stated that I am only certain he will come out of the old Assyrian empire, which would include Lebanon, extreme southeastern Turkey, and northern Iraq. So I will be watching very carefully to see if someone from northern Iraq becomes the President of Iraq. It will take a really strong, and extremely clever, ruler to unite the Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish factions across Iraq.

The 10 toes and 10 horns of Daniel are the same 10 horns of John’s first and second beasts. They are not European nations, and the antichrist is not a European. He is the Assyrian of Micah’s fifth chapter, and the 10 toes and 10 horns are basically mingled (Arab) descendants of Abraham, who practice the Islamic faith – a faith that would be the worship of a strange god unknown to Abraham. The division of the vast riches of the Iraqi oil fields among the different ethnic groups within Iraq would most certainly gain him a loyal following among all the Islamic clerics.

Daniel 11:37,38 – Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. [38] But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. [39] Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

Daniel 7:24 – And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

Revelation 17:12,13 – And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. [13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

So, Lord willing, I will be paying very close attention to the interplay between the new Iraqi government, Syria, and Iran. This is going to be a very interesting scenario.

[5] By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

Gog is the Chief Prince of Meshech and Tubal – These two tribes settled in what is called “Greater Syria” today.

Togarmah was the son of Gomer – The tribe of Togarmah settled north of Meshech and Tubal in what is now known as Turkey.

The Scythians were diverse groups of militaristic Iranic pastoralists. These groups inhabited the western and central Eurasian steppe lands during the Iron Age, the area known to classical Greek sources as “Scythia”. Their historical appearance coincided with the rise of equestrian semi-nomadism from the Carpathian Mountains of Europe to Mongolia in the Far East during the 1st millennium BC. The “classical Scythians” known to ancient Greek historians were located in the northern Black Sea and fore-Caucasus region. However, other Scythian groups encountered in Near Eastern and Achaemenid sources existed in Central Asia.

The Jewish historian Josephus identified the Magogites of Ezekiel as the Scythians.

The Magog tribe settled further north than any of the tribes and became known as the Scythians. They then spread further east and west on dry land than the other tribes. The old Soviet Union was their location. In Ezekiel’s day was known as “the land of Magog.” Today it would be what was known as the Soviet Union during the “Cold War.”

Has Turkey Betrayed the West?

On Jan. 25, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan announced that his government was interested in joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which includes Russia, China, and the four post-Soviet Central Asian republics. But SCO members cannot simultaneously be members of NATO. As Turkey’s campaign to join the EU remains stalled, Erdogan’s gaze has turned eastward. In January, he said that if Russian President Putin chooses to “include us” in the SCO, “we will forget about the EU.” (The Tower)

Following the brutal suppression of the riots staged in Andijan (Uzbekistan) and the so-called Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan, both of which took place in 2005; an SCO summit was assembled in Astana (Kazakhstan) in the summer of the same year. The final declaration put forward by the Astana Summit of 2005 was bitter, criticizing the U.S. and Western attitudes regarding both events, even though implicitly. Washington was condemned with trying to superimpose its hegemony over the whole world and Eurasia in particular. In the immediate aftermath of the summit, an extensive military exercise was conducted under the umbrella of SCO in August 2005. With the exercise and the subsequent declaration, it was demanded from the U.S. to retreat from its military bases in Central Asia as soon as possible. Furthermore, it became more evident that one of the major goals of SCO was (and still is) to minimize the political and military influence of Western countries within the region. As one may remember, the organization had also denied granting observer status to the U.S. and the EU over its activities in the past.

In 2012, after a round of rocket fire from Gaza aimed at Israel, followed by Israeli retaliatory strikes, Erdogan demanded that Israel must stop ‘massacre’ of Palestinians in Gaza, saying that it was a part of an Israeli campaign of “genocide” against the Palestinean people.

In February 2013, Erdogan called Zionism a “crime against humanity”, comparing it to Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and fascism. He later walked back the statement, saying he had been misinterpreted.

For centuries, Turkey and Russia have been rivals for regional supremacy. With the rise of the Erdoğan government, the two countries have realised that friendly relations are in the interest of both. Accordingly, co-operation rather than rivalry appears to dominate the ties. In 2002, trade between Turkey and Russia was worth some $5 billion. By the end of 2011, this figure reached $32 billion.

In December 2004, President Putin visited Turkey. This was the first Presidential visit in the history of Turkish-Russian relations besides that of the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Nikolai Podgorny in 1972. In November 2005, Putin attended the inauguration of a jointly constructed Blue Stream natural gas pipeline in Turkey. This sequence of top-level visits has brought several important bilateral issues to the forefront. The two countries consider it their strategic goal to achieve “multidimensional co-operation”, especially in the fields of energy, transport and the military. Specifically, Russia aims to invest in Turkey’s fuel and energy industries, and it also expects to participate in tenders for the modernisation of Turkey’s military.

President Medvedev described Turkey as “one of our most important partners with respect to regional and international issues… We can confidently say that Russian-Turkish relations have advanced to the level of a multidimensional strategic partnership.”

On 12 May 2010, Ankara and Moscow signed 17 agreements to enhance cooperation in energy and other fields, including pacts to build Turkey’s first nuclear power plant and furthering plans for an oil pipeline from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. The leaders of both countries have also signed an agreement on visa-free travel. Tourists will be able to get into the country for free and stay there for up to 30 days.

Turkey drawing closer to Iran in fighting Kurds and to Syria through Bilateral Ties!

October 17, 2007

Recent developments, particularly in the last six months, show a very definite trend of Russia and China drawing closer together against the U.S. and Israel as demonstrated by massive military exercises practiced along their borders, secular Turkey returning to its Islamic roots amid contacts with Iran and Syria, and the former Soviet Union countries around the Caspian Sea showing how their majority Islamic occupants are linking with Islam rather then the West. The final act on the world stage is preparing itself for an eventual war in which Israel will find herself driven into the Negev, where she will remain for some three and one half years prior to Armageddon and the Second Advent of Messiah.

Assad visits Turkey, may push for help reviving talks with Israel

Compiled by Daily Star Staff

Syrian President Bashar Assad arrived in Turkey Tuesday for a four-day visit to discuss regional issues and bilateral ties, Anatolia news agency reported. Assad was to dine with Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul on Tuesday evening ahead of formal talks on Wednesday that will include meetings with Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan.

He will also travel to Istanbul before wrapping up his visit on Friday.

Last week, Assad said in interviews with two Tunisian newspapers that Turkey was trying to mediate between Syria and Israel. Turkey has close ties to Israel.

The visit comes weeks after Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike in northeastern Syria near the border with Turkey against a target that remains unknown, though widespread reports say it may have been a nascent nuclear facility, a claim Syria has denied.

Turkey complained to Israel about the September 6 strike because the aircraft dropped fuel tanks on its territory during the incursion. Assad has said the planes struck an empty warehouse, but both Syria and Israel have been unusually silent over the incident.

Turkish-Syrian relations have improved in recent years since a long period of animosity ended in 1998 when Damascus forced Turkish Kurd rebel Abdullah Ocalan to leave his long-time safe haven in Syria. Ocalan was subsequently captured in Kenya in 1999 and jailed for life.

Ankara believes it can use the thaw as leverage to help ease Middle East tensions, drawing also on its close ties with both Israel and the Palestinians.

Turkey’s foreign minister visited both Israel and Syria earlier in October.

“We have told them [the Turks] that our stance toward peace does not change. All we want is a clear declaration by Israeli officials of their desire for peace and the return of [occupied] land to Syria,” the Syrian president said. – Agencies
