Mossad chief: Iran Won’t Stop at Just One Nuclear Weapon

Iran is but six months away from achieving technological independence in its quest to develop a nuclear bomb. Mossad Chief Meir Dagan told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee during his yearly briefing to the body Tuesday.

Though he refused to lay out a specific time line for when Iran could complete work on a nuclear weapon, Dagan appeared to accelerate the most recent prediction made by Israeli intelligence. On December 13, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz said Iran could begin enriching uranium by March 2006 but would not be able to develop a bomb until 2008.

The Islamic State has made a “strategic decision to reach nuclear independence,” Dagan said, and once it reached that goal it would then be only a matter of “a few months” before it was able to finish building a nuclear bomb.

Dagan further warned that Iran would not be content with just one nuclear weapon. “If they continue undisturbed, and they succeed in developing fissile material, they won’t be content in the amount needed for just one bomb, they will try to make more,” the Mossad chief warned. “You don’t need a lot of fissile material, you just need it to be enriched.”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to “be wiped off the map.”

Iran has already produced 40 tones of UF6, a compound used in the uranium enrichment process that produces fuel for nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons.

That amount of UF6 could produce 40 kilograms of fissile material, Dagan said.

Iran is also continuing to “build and enhance” centrifuges, which are part of its nuclear program.

Despite the mounting threat Iran’s nuclear weapons program posses, Dagan implied there is still time for a peaceful solution to the dispute if the international community is willing to take action soon.

Economic sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council “would be very effective,” Dagan said. Since Iran imported 40 percent of its refined fuel, and also relied heavily on imported spare parts for its vehicles, it was highly susceptible to coordinated and targeted sanctions from the international community, he said.

“The chances of this going to the Security Council are higher than they were in the past,” he said.

The Mossad chief was careful in his presentation to the Knesset committee not to use the words “point of no return” in describing when, in his estimate, Iran would be able to complete its nuclear ambitions without any outside help.

Rather, he used the phrase “technical independence”. The difference could imply that even once Iran was able to make a nuclear weapon, it may still be persuaded not to by outside f orces

or agreements.

Dagan’s briefing to the Knesset committee comes on the heels of a Saturday report by German newspaper Der Spiegel that the Mossad had marked six Iranian nuclear facilities the IAF would hit in a pre-emptive strike. Additionally, a Tuesday Ma’ariv report said Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was coordinating intelligence on Iran with the United States.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday that Israel had modified American-made Harpoon cruise missiles in order to launch them from submarines as a means to further dissuade Iran from becoming a nuclear power itself.

Efforts by the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to convince Iran to give up its nuclear program have so far proven fruitless while a recent offer from Russia to Iran to enrich uranium in Russia for a peaceful Iranian nuclear power program has gone unanswered.

Nevertheless, the United States and other countries have said they will give Iran until March to comply with international demands for it to halt its nuclear program before referring the Islamic State to the Security Council for possible sanctions.

In his briefing to the committee, Dagan also touched on the “global jihad” being waged by Muslim militants, saying that Israelis and Jews remain prime targets around the world.

The goal, he said, of the global jihad is to establish a “pan-Islamic entity” similar to the Caliphate which once spanned huge parts of Asia, Africa, and southern Europe.

“They have independent infrastructures all over the world, there is no one central headquarters,” Dagan said, describing the command structure of the global jihad.

Simmering Middle East Cauldron Headed for Eventual End Time Jihad Boil!

The Middle East is headed for a Jihad showdown that must eventually occur. The only valid question is WHEN.

I have touted the time period 2007 to 2012 as the most likely span in which it will occur.

The articles which follow are portions of two recent Jerusalem Post Articles that are indicative of that time span being a good guesstimate. The estimate of 2008 to 2015 for Iran

to possess an operation nuclear warhead (See Extract 1, Paragraph 3) aligns well with my 2007 to 2012 guesstimate for a Jihad attack of 10 Arab nations against Israel. I DO NOT believe there will be a nuclear war in the Middle East.

I do believe the 10 Arab nations will not dare to launch a conventional war against Israel, until Iran has the deterrent nuclear capability necessary to stop Israel from launching a nuclear attack against the nations of Islam.

Mossad Chief: Iran Two Years Away at Latest from Bomb

“Iran is one to two years away, at the latest, from having enriched uranium,” said Mossad Chief Meir Dagan during his annual report to the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee late Tuesday morning.

“From that point, the completion of their nuclear weapon is simply a technical matter.

If Iran goes undisturbed, they will reach technical nuclear development independence in the coming months,” said Dagan.

The comments echoed those of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz, who earlier this month said it is possible that Iran would be able to complete building a bomb as early as 2008 or as far as 2015.

Just last week it was reported in the Jerusalem Post that Iran recently acquired 12 cruise missiles with a range of up to 3,000 kilometers.

OC Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Aharon Ze’evi (Farkash) noted the missiles had the ability to carry a nuclear warhead.

Deterring the Iranian Nuclear Threat

News of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s departure from the Likud and his establishment of the new Kadima Party may have obscured a momentous strategic development. The Jewish state seems to be establishing a second-strike capability in the event Iran becomes a nuclear power.

Not much attention was paid to Germany’s recent approval of the sale

of two Dolphin-class submarines to Israel. The arms deal is worth about $1.2 billion, a third of which is likely to be subsidized by the German government.

The two submarines, augmenting a fleet of three similar -class submarines already owned by Israel, would have improved technology allowing them to remain submerged for longer than earlier models

– in fact, they could stay underwater for weeks. The Dolphin-class submarine is reported to be equipped with torpedo tubes capable of launching cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads.

A second-strike capability, which allows a state to respond in kind after being subjected to a nuclear attack, is critical in establishing credible deterrence.

Submarines are the main platform for any second-strike capability because of the difficulty of locating them underwater, rendering them less vulnerable to an enemy first-strike.

Because of their presumed survivability submarines were an essential element of the nuclear triad strategy (ground, air and sea-based) employed by both the Soviet Union and the US during the Cold War.

The Program to Interrogate Prisoners in Other Countries Was First Introduced by a Democratic Administration!

According to extracts taken from “The Australian,” the Democratic Party, which is raising such a stink about the “rendition” program, was the party in power when the program was first launched against the terrorist groups by President Bill Clinton in 1995.

This is not a Queen Victoria era “Gentleman’s War” we are engaged in with Islamic terrorists.

This is a war with homicide bombers who take innocent captive civilians and behead them in the name of Allah.

It is the height of judicial stupidity to be more concerned about the rights

of such individuals than the possible slaughter of thousands of American citizens, that is, too the extent we make it

possible by not monitoring air and internet traffic to prevent it, as well as practicing the Marquis of Queensberry rules in interrogation of terrorist prisoners.

I don’t really care who started it – It is a gre

at idea.

Clinton ‘Set Up Rendition Plan’

BERLIN: The CIA’s controversial “rendition” program to capture suspects and have them interrogated on foreign soil was launched under former US president Bill Clinton, a former US counter-terrorism agent says.

Michael Scheuer, a 22-year veteran of the CIA who resigned from the agency last year, told the German news weekly Die Zeit the US government had been looking in the mid-1990s for a way to combat the threat of terrorism and circumvent the US legal system.

“President Clinton, his national security adviser Sandy Berger and his terrorism adviser Richard Clark ordered the CIA in the autumn of 1995 to destroy al-Qa’ida,” Mr Scheuer said.

” We asked the president what we should do with the people we capture.

Clinton said, ‘That’s up to you’.”

Mr Scheuer, who headed the CIA unit that tracked al-Qa’ida leader Osama bin Laden from 1996 to 1999, said he developed and led the “rendition” program, which included moving prisoners without due legal process to countries without human rights protections.

“In Cairo, people are not treated like they are in Milwaukee,” he said. “The Clinton administration asked us if we believed the prisoners

were being treated in accordance with local law.

And we answered, ‘Yes, we’re fairly sure’.”

At the time, Mr Scheuer said, the CIA did not arrest or imprison anyone itself.

“That was done by the local police or secret services,” he said, adding that the captured prisoners were never taken to US soil.

“President Clinton did not want that.”

He said the program changed under Mr Clinton’s successor, President George W.

Bush, after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

“We started putting people in our own institutions — in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo,” he said. “The Bush administration wanted to capture people itself, but made the same mistake as the Clinton administration by not treating these people as prisoners of war.”

He accused Europeans of being hypocritical in criticising the US for its anti-terror tactics while benefiting from them.

“All the information we received from interrogations and documents — everything that had to do with Spain, Italy, Germany, France, England, was passed on.”

Driving the Nails in Their Own Coffin Enclosure!

The following article, by Erik Schechter and the Jerusalem Post Staff, highlights the reason the security barrier must be built to enclose the Palestinians within a coffin like box, with only air holes at the 27 check points, which will receive thorough searches for entry and exiting. The terror groups, which have the support of the Palestinian population, are literally driving the nails in their own coffin.

This barrier cannot stop all the attacks but it has been proven, since it began to be constructed, that it can cut out most of them and, when completed, can bring a time of what will be classified as relative peace.

Soldier Killed, Several Wounded in W. Bank Bombing

Lt.

Uri Binamo, 21, from Nesher was killed and around 10 people were wounded, including three IDF soldiers, in a suicide bombing in the West Bank on Thursday morning.

A suicide bomber detonated himself at a surprise IDF roadblock south of Tulkarm, near Shavei Shomron.

The bomber was driven in a taxi to the area, and when he exited the vehicle, soldiers asked him to open his coat. He refused, and set off his explosives. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.

Four Palestinians – including the taxi driver – were also killed in the attack.

It was unclear whether there were other Palestinian fatalities. One of the Palestinians killed in

the blast was suspected of being an accomplice who intended to lead the bomber to the location of the planned bombing.

Seven Palestinians, including a child, were reportedly wounded, and were taken to Dr. Thabet Thabet Hospital in Tulkarm.

The officer killed was a platoon commander in the Nachshon battalion. Sources in the Ephraim brigade – responsible for security in the Kalkilya area – said the officer had prevented a greater tragedy by blocking the bomber with his body.

MDA teams arrived at the scene and evacuated the wounded.

One soldier, in critical condition, was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Another two that were listed in light to moderate condition were evacuated as well, MDA reported. The soldiers were hospitalized at Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera and in Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.

The temporary roadblock was erected near Avnei Hefetz in the West Bank following concrete information of planned suicide attacks.

The IDF estimated that the bomber intended to blow up within Israeli lines, but was stopped before he could reach his planned destination.

Security officials added

that the explosive device was a large one, and could have caused severe damage had the bomber reached his destination inside Israel.

After the attack, the army imposed closures on the West Bank towns of Tulkarm and Kalkilya, preventing people from coming in

and out.

Deputy Defense Minister Ze’ev Boim said, Thursday’s attack was carried out by Islamic Jihad operatives in the northern West Bank, with direct support from the group’s leadership in Syria.

“Their efforts to put suicide bombers in the center of Israel are always ongoing,” he told Israel Radio, praising the army for foiling what could have been a much worse attack if the attackers had reached an Israeli city. “This temporary checkpoint prevented a heavier catastrophe,” he said.

Palestinian officials who arrived on the scene had initially believed that two bombers were responsible, but as the facts became clearer, it appeared that only one person was responsible.

Security officials said that there were an additional 50 terror warnings on Thursday.

Ten of those warnings involved concrete information, officials added.

The population is expected to reach the seven million mark in the coming months.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics the population

of the State of Israel, on the eve of 2006, stands at 6,986,300 people.

Seventy-six percent of the population is Jewish, 20% are Arab, and 4% are non-Arab Christians and residents with no official religious status according to the Ministry of Interior.

The population growth rate for 2005 stood at 1.7%, which equals 116,800 people, the lowest it has been since 1990.

The growth rate in 2004 was 1.8%.

During 2005, 143,700 infants were born, while 20,500 new olim arrived, a number similar to that of 2004.

Eighteen percent of the olim were from Russia, 17% from Ethiopia, 12% from France, 10% from Ukraine, and 8% from the US.

By the time I wrote my third book, “Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit,” in the early eighties, I had decided it was likely the attack against Israel would not occur in the twentieth century, and the most likely time would be 2003 to 2012. After the twenty first century began, the events in the Middle East caused me to realize things were happening slower than I had guesstimated in the eighties and, in 2002, I began to chop off 2003 to 2006, and issue what I knew was a better estimate, which was the period 2007 to 2012.

I took the existing population in 2002, added the existing annual population increase, and estimated the population of the Jews would be such that one-third of it would be 1.7 million by the time 2007 arrived, and 1.9 when 2012 rolled in.

I will confess that I am certainly no expert in population prediction, and it may well be more than 1.9 million before 2012, but that is what I guesstimated in 2002. It may be found in our Birth Pang Archives as Number 43, which I am including below.

The man child seed of the woman is Jesus Christ.

God promised in Genesis 3:15 that this seed would one day crush the power of Satan, but in so doing would suffer for

the price he paid while walking and dying on this earth. Even though the wom an is herself

a Jewish remnant, there will also be a Jewish remnant within the remnant, a living remnant of believers who testify to the unbelieving Israelis that Jesus is the Messiah, and keep the commandments delivered to them by Jesus Christ. They are a sealed believing remnant of 144,000 Jews living among the one-third of Israel that flees to the Negev. This one-third will number between 1.7 and 1.9 million.
