Russia Free Trade Agreements

[59] EFTA [17] has bilateral agreements with the following countries – including dependent territories – and the following blocs: Afghanistan has bilateral agreements with the following countries and blocs:[1] Since 2012, when Russia joined the WTO, trade relations between the EU and Russia are also marked by multilateral WTO rules. In 2010, Russia established a customs union with Kazakhstan and Belarus. This customs union became the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in 2015. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan joined the EAEU the same year. The EAEU has legal jurisdiction in many trade-related policy areas, such as customs, competition, trade defence and industrial products regulation, intellectual property rights and foreign trade policy. It is a list of free trade agreements between two parties in which each party could be a country (or another customs territory), a trade bloc or an informal group of countries. Discussions with Israel are progressing more slowly. The first round of negotiations took place at the end of 2018. It focused on trade defence measures, rules on the origin of goods, customs cooperation, dispute resolution, technical barriers to trade, health and plant health standards, public procurement and trade issues.

The main problem is to reconcile the positions of the parties. Political differences with Tehran, which has already reached an agreement with the Eurasian Union, have not significantly influenced the course of the talks. The main export products in EAEU`s trade with China are crude oil, including natural gas condensates (18.6 per cent of EAEU exports), sawn wood (48.3%), coal (12.7%), refined copper and copper alloys (26.3%), turboprop and turboprop engines, gas turbines (62.5%), raw wood (76.4%) copper ores and concentrates (68.6 per cent). Major imports include communication equipment and spare parts for these devices (China accounts for 64.5% of imports from EAEU countries), automatic information processing computers (63.4%), thermal materials (63.4%). 47.6 per cent, car and tractor parts and accessories (15.3 per cent), toys (80.3 per cent) as well as shoes with rubber or plastic sole and top (84.9 per cent). The draft agreement was ready to comply with the decision taken by the Eurasian Higher Economic Council of 26 December 2016 to enter into talks with Iran on the conclusion of an interim agreement leading to the creation of a free trade area and was approved at the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission on 7 March 2017. Since 1997, the EU`s political and economic relations with Russia have been based on a bilateral Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (APC).

The trade components of the agreement aim to promote trade and investment and to establish mutually beneficial economic relations between the EU and Russia.
