The title is “somewhat” of a quote from the “Ancient Mariner” – “Water, Water, Everywhere, and not a drop to drink,” referring to the ancient mariner being on a ship of death surrounded by undrinkable salty sea water he dared not drink.
If one drinks sea water it will only increase thirst, and hasten the time of death.
There is a massive breakaway going on among what I would call “fringe Christianity.” They are breaking away from the pillar and ground of truth,
namely the local New Testament Churches, and are starting to fill their bellies with Gnostic sea water, written primarily after the 27 books of the New Testament were written.
These Gnostic books were written by ungodly men claiming to be directed by God. Now, these writings are being revived by Satan to grab off as many as he can from the worship of God in local churches.
So why would Satan make an effort to replace local churches with masses who are subject to every whim of doctrine
?
Gnostic salt water kills the soul, but God’s sweet water of truth satisfies and quinces the thirst of a saved soul for truth, by continuing to set it apart (sanctify it) from the ways of the world.
Ephesians 5:25-27 – Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; [26] That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, [27] That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
John 17:17 – Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
So why would Satan make an effort to replace local churches with masses who are subject to every whim of doctrine
?
Because Christ established the first local church during his earthly ministry to be the pillar and ground of the truth, and each local church that still teaches it is “the house of God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”
I Timothy 3:14,15 – These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: [15] But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
When we separate ourselves from a local church that still teaches the truth once delivered to the saints, and unite with a mass or church that does not, we separate ourselves from a system of teaching Christ delivered to those churches found in the 27 books of the N.T, and are guilty of having departed from “the faith.”
Jude 1:3,4 – Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. [4] For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
The primary group to which Jude and John refer in their writings as “ungodly men” were the seeds of the group referred to as “Gnostics.” They began to write so called books and gospels from God about the time John finished the book of Revelation, and went out from the regular churches because their heretical beliefs began to become increasingly heretical. Historically, in heretical groups, with the passage of time, more varieties of false teachings arise among them, and so it was with the sects of the Gnostics. However, the initial teaching that was responsible for them leaving the true churches stayed with them in one form or another.
They accepted Jesus as a divine representative and manifestation of God, but they would not accept him as a flesh and blood human being. The basic heresy in this teaching is a simple one, but it blocks a person from being saved. If there is no flesh and blood sacrifice of his hu man Son, then
man has nothing to offer God for all his sins as a human.
The Gnostics were foremost among the false prophets of the time during the writings of John and Jude, and were responsible for the writing of many heretical books, which they claimed were written by hidden knowledge
and wisdom. The word Gnostic, when applied to the character of a person, simply means “to know.” They tried to introduce a system of mystical religious and philosophical doctrines into the early churches by their combining Christian teachings with Greek and Oriental philosophies. It flourished from about 90 AD to 190 AD, during which time most Gnostics left the early churches, and the heresy had greatly diminished by 300 AD. But now the Devil is attempting to revive these teachings in this last great age marked by the increase of man’s great secular knowledge. It is no secret that the smarter man gets in his secular knowledge, the more he departs from his spiritual knowledge.
I John 4:1-6 – Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
[2] Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: [3] And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. [4] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. [5] They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. [6] We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us.
Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
I John 2:19 – They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
Satan is now dragging out these old heretical Gnostic writings and going after all the weak believers he can pull together, because he knows his time is growing short. The Gospel of Judas and the Da Vinci Code movies are based on old Gnostic writings, and are no more than the title of this article implies – FABLES!
In his last epistle, just before his death, Paul left us a warning from God, and we would do well to heed what he warned us would happen in the last days, before the Devil’s time expired on the surface of this earth.
II Timothy 4:1-5 – I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; [2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
[3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto FABLES. [5] But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
The word “FABLE,” according to Bullinger, means “a tale or story.” According to Pindar, “it always denotes fiction, fable, or a mythic tale.” In Attic Greek the word usually denoted a legend of the early Greek times.
The Da Vinci Code and the Gospel of Judas are no more than FABLES. They are not what Paul said God gave us just before Paul gave his life for the preaching of the true Scriptures. I think he makes it quite plain that in these last days we would do well to stick
to what we know is the truth, and not be turned to FABLES!
II Timothy 3:14-17 – But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; [15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
I Peter 2:2-5 – As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: [3] If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. [4] To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, [5] Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:22 – In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
