Iran in deal to cut Iraq arms flow

Petraeus says Tehran’s pledge to Iraqi officials in August may have led to a dip in attacks associated with Shiite militants.

By Alexandra Zavis

Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

September 30, 2007

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has secured a pledge from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to help cut off weapons, funding and other support to extremist militiamen in Iraq, U.S. and Iraqi officials said Saturday.

Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said there were signs of a slight drop in the types of attacks associated with Shiite militants since the deal was reached in August, and he raised the possibility that U.S. and Iraqi officials might be able to do something in return. But he said it was too early to tell whether there had been a real reduction in cross-border support.

“Honestly, and I really mean this, all of us would really welcome the opportunity to see this, confirm it and even — in whatever way we could — to reciprocate,” Petraeus said during a visit to the Baghdad district of Karada. “But it really is wait-and-see time right now still.”

Iranian officials have made no announcement of such a commitment and could not immediately be reached for comment. But they have consistently denied U.S. accusations that members of the elite Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are supplying advanced weaponry and other help to Shiite militiamen attacking U.S. troops.

Maliki’s aides characterized the agreement reached during a three-day visit to Iran as a promise to better police the long and porous border between the two countries.

“The agreement included a promise by the Iranian government to increase the number of Iranian forces on the border and to increase the efforts to guard the 1,000-kilometer-long [620-mile] frontier,” said Farooq Abdullah, one of Maliki’s political advisors.

An Iraqi official who traveled with Maliki to New York last week for the United Nations General Assembly, said, “The prime minister has been saying recently that the Iranians have been giving him strong promises . . . and that the results of these promises are starting to be felt . . . as far as the trafficking of weapons is concerned.” He asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

But Petraeus said Maliki told him the that agreement went further than

that. “The president of Iran pledged to Prime Minister Maliki during a recent meeting that he would stop the flow of weapons, the training, the funding and the directing of these militia extremists that have been such a huge problem really for Iraq,” Petraeus said.

He reiterated allegations that Iran is supplying rocket-propelled grenades, shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles, large rockets and armor-piercing bombs known as explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, which have been used in attacks against U.S. forces.

“Certainly, indirect fire is quite a bit down,” Petraeus said, referring to rocket and mortar attacks. “EFPs, arguably a bit down; some of these others we haven’ t seen for a bi

t. But it certainly is nothing sufficient to call even statistically significant, much less evidence that there has been a real reduction in the assistance provided.” He did not give any figures.

U.S.-led forces have captured “quite a few” of the weapons in recent operations, he said. The apparent dip in such attacks also could be connected to a decision by influential Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr to suspend the operations of his Mahdi Army militia for six months to weed out what he called rogue elements.

“It was the extreme elements of those, the special groups as they are called, that had been employing those different arms,” Petraeus said.

Analysts cautioned against interpreting Ahmadinejad’s commitment as an admission of responsibility.

“The Iranians have repeatedly denied that they are providing weapons to the insurgents,” said Juan Cole, a Middle East expert at the University of Michigan.

“In the absence of a transcript of what exactly Ahmadinejad admitted to or promised, it would be difficult to know what he meant. But it wouldn’t have been an admission to trying to make Iraq unstable.”

All sides, however, have been shaken by a recent escalation in clashes in southern Iraq, where Shiite factions with ties to Iran are vying for political influence and control of the oil-rich region. Tensions between Sadr’s Mahdi Army and its main rival, the Badr Organization, believed to be the largest recipient of Iranian backing, exploded last month during a major religious festival in Karbala.

Maliki has played a delicate balancing act between Iraq’s two major allies, resisting Iran’s calls for an immediate U.S. pullout while deflecting U.S. demands that he take a tougher stand against Tehran.

The aide who accompanied Maliki to New York said the prime minister expressed his frustration to the Bush administration over those arrests and other instances in which U.S. forces acted without consulting his government.

Whereas attacks by Shiite militants appear to have dropped, Petraeus said, the Sunni militant group Al Qaeda in Iraq has stepped up operations since declaring an offensive during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Hamas renews call for cease-fire

Associated Press, THE JERUSALEM POST

September 30, 2007

Hamas called on Sunday for a cease-fire with Israel, a possible indication of the growing pressure the Islamic group faces after months of isolation in the Gaza Strip.

Gaza’s Hamas government “is ready to offer a truce at this time,” Mohammed Awad, a senior Hamas official, told a Gaza Web site affiliated with the Islamic group. Awad’s office confirmed he had made the statement, which echoed similar calls by Hamas in recent months.

A government spokesman dismissed Awad’s statement as a “ploy.”

Gaza has been cut off from the rest of the world since Hamas took it over violently in June. Awad said the truce would only be possible if it helped “to achieve some goals for our people” – likely meaning moves to open sealed border crossings into Israel and Egypt, relieve international economic sanctions and halt IDF army operations against Palestinian rocket squads.

Government spokesman David Baker accused Hamas of trying to buy time.

“We’ve seen Hamas and other terror organizations use these calls for a cease-fire as a mere ploy in order to allow them to rearm, regroup and reorganize,” Baker said. “Israel will continue to take the necessary steps to defend its citizens and will not sit idly by while these terrorist organizations continue to actively plan and eventually perpetrate terror attacks against us.”

DEBKAfile: Fighting escalates between Israel and Gaza Strip in fresh spiral

August 22, 2007, 9:22 AM (GMT+02:00)

In the first half of the week, at least 16 Palestinians were killed by Israel military responses to the waves of Palestinian missile and mortar fire buffeting the population living around Gaza.

Hamas, Jihad Islami, Fatah-Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Popular Committees and al Qaeda-linked Salafi groups are all shooting missiles and mortars at Israeli communities around the clock – two dozen in the last 24 hours. An empty nursery school and factory were badly damaged in Sderot. The IDF has brought into action new surveillance instruments and short-range high-precision surface rockets.

Tuesday night,

Aug. 21, one Hamas terrorist was killed, and several injured as they crept up to the border fence. During the day, 9 Palestinians were killed, including two children standing by a launcher near Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, who were mistaken for a missile team.

Palestinian organizations are now fielding their Qassam missile and mortar teams day and night. Marksmen armed with sniper rifles fitted with night-vision equipment are shooting at IDF border positions, armored patrols and civilian traffic within range of the border.

Israeli farmers have been ordered by the military to work their fields only up to one kilometer short of the border.

Yet Israeli forces are not permitted to execute their plan to carve out a 1.5-2 km buffer strip inside the Gaza Strip to keep Palestinian assailants at bay, although prime minister Ehud Olmert and defense minister Ehud Barak have promised that the Israel military will not pull its punches against the enemy.

“We are only allowed to shoot when they are near the border fence. It is therefore inevitable that the Palestinians will intensify their attacks, extend their range and start building up casualties on our side.”

Military commanders told DEBKAfile Tuesday night that there is nothing to deter the Palestinians from bringing out their advanced anti-tank rockets and extended-range Qassam surface missiles against the towns of Ashkelon and Netivot, as well as the cluster of military facilities guarding the Israel-Gazan border.

They also believe that not all the tunnels running under the fence from Gaza into Israel have been found and the Palestinians intend to use them for surprise attacks.

DEBKAfile’s Palestinian sources explain that local Hamas extremists have intensified their offensive, defying guidelines laid down by their political leaders in Gaza and Damascus, in order to break out of the military, economic and financial blockade clamped down on their rule by the US, Israel, Egypt and the Europeans. This stranglehold prevents Hamas from exercising government and its rule is in danger. To save themselves, Hamas’ military chiefs are driving their war with Israel to extremes. They hope for enough civilian deaths to force outside intervention for a ceasefire in hostilities.

What a Clever way to say: ‘We don’t want War until WE can win It’!

September 29, 2007

http://www.tribulationperiod.com/

The Jerusalem Post quote of Syria’s Vice President as saying Syria does not want war with Israel ‘in the distant or near future,’ is half true. They do not want it in the near future because of the failure of their high tech Russian detection, intercept, and destruction system to stop the squadron of Israeli aircraft from completing their September 6 mission over northern Syria. I do not believe Syria, Iran, Hizbullah, Hamas, and friends will be able to launch a successful attack against Israel against Israel before 2010, and they might

best cialis levitra viagra which

not be able to do so until 2014. If Arab forces launched a frontal line air and ground assault against Israel at the present time, they would be soundly defeated, and they know it. The guerilla tunnel rat hit and run tactics currently being employed, rather than frontal lines of troops directly facing each other, are working quite well for the Arabs and Persians, and I suspect they will be

quite happy to keep on employing them until they feel confident they can win a straight line war.

The Arabs and Persians learned in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, that they are no match for Israeli and American ground and air power in a straight line face to face conventional war. However, they have been very effective in a quite different kind of warfare against what they call the ‘occupiers’. It worked for the Vietnamese against us in Vietnam. It worked for Osama bin Laden and the Taliban against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, and it is working for the Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the al Aksa Martyrs Brigades inside Israel.

So they will begin a truly conventional war only when

they honestly think they can win it.

Syria doesn’t want war with Israel ‘in distant or near future’

JPost staff and AP, THE JERUSALEM POST

September 29, 2007

Syrian Vice President Farouk Shara said on Saturday that his country did not want war with Israel “in the distant or near future.”

Shara went on to say that everything reported so far about an alleged IAF air raid on Syria was wrong and part of a “psychological war” against Damascus intended to lay the ground for future attacks.

In his first comments on the Sept. 6 alleged IAF incursion over Syria, Shara said Israel was trying to restore its damaged image following its “defeat” by Hizbullah guerrillas during their month-long war last year.

“If some people in Israel think that this psychological war will restore (the image of) the Israeli army following its defeat by the Lebanese resistance last year, they should know that what Israel needs is to restore the Israeli mind,” Shara said.

Details of the IAF incursion remain unclear.

While Israel has clamped a news blackout on the incident, US officials have said Israeli warplanes struck a target and a senior American nonproliferation official said earlier this month that North Korean personnel were in Syria helping its nuclear program, resulting in speculation nuclear installations had been targeted.

Syria has said only that warplanes entered its airspace, came under fire from anti-aircraft defenses, and dropped munitions and fuel tanks to lighten their loads while they fled.

“The size of these (media) leaks along with the fabrications they carry is striking,” Shara said at a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart, Adil Abdul-Mahdi. “They (the Western and Israeli media) are inventing things to justify a future aggression” against Syria, he concluded.

He described reports of North Koreans killed in the alleged raid as “nonsense.”

Shara also said that Syria has not received an official invitation to a US-proposed Mideast peace conference to take place in November.

But he said that any such conference must be based on “firm grounds” such as UN resolutions or an Arab peace initiative and the return by Israel of occupied territories.

Any conference that is not based on these principles “will have no value other than being a photo opportunity,” Shara added.

IDF: Syria’s Anti-Aircraft System Most Advanced in World

The Syrians have purchased the most advanced ground-to-air missiles from the Russians, considered the cutting edge in aircraft interception technology, said a senior Israeli military source.

According to one estimate, the Syrians have more than 200 anti-aircraft batteries of different types.

The Institute for National Security Studies recently issued a memo on the strengthening of the Syrian army. Researcher Yiftah Shapir writes that the anti-aircraft deals between Syria and Russia include the purchase of SA-24 missile systems, an armored vehicle which carries four Igla-S missiles – among the most advanced shoulder-fired missiles on the market.

Iran and Syria hoping Russian Bear didn’t sell them a “Pig-in-a-Poke.”

September 8, 2007

http://www.tribulationperiod,com/

The location of Wednesday night’s mysterious supersonic maneuvers in Syria, coupled with the so called repulsion of the intruders, following a dropping of “munitions” by the aircraft, apparently at different levels, and the somewhat “out of character” responses by Russia, Syria, Israel, and the United States, lead me to believe the latest DEBKAfile Report to have a reasonable degree of validity.

10mg prednisone

It appears from the character of the events as they were described by the Syrians, this was a deliberate planned set of maneuvers by Israeli jets to test the newly installed high tech Russian Pantsyr-S1E Missile Repellant System’s ability to repulse attack aircraft from striking a target.

With April Fool’s Day some seven months away it hardly seems fair for the Russian Bear to play such an outlandish April Fool’s joke on Syria and Iran, especially considering what they paid for the Pantsyr-S1E missiles purchased from the Bear to repel air assailants.

body bro good levitra stuff up whats yea yea

I suspect the analyzing DEBKAfile military experts are correct in their assessment of this week’s mysterious bird droppings over northern Syria by Israeli birds with afterburners. If so, everybody is clamming up for different reasons and we may never know for certain. I can picture the guys in the NSA Control Room really having a chuckle over this episode. And I can imagine all the excuses for the systems failure that are being copied from intercept between the Syrians, Iranians, and Russians. If it is true, my hat is off to the IAF, and I express my gratitude for a major coup which supplied valuable information to Israel and her allies.

The intelligence gained could be a deciding factor in a “go” or “no go” strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Advanced Russian Air Defense Missile Cannot Protect Syrian and Iranian Skies

September 7, 2007, 1:16 PM (GMT+02:00)

DEBKAfile’s military experts conclude from the way Damascus described the episode Wednesday, Sept. 6, that the Pantsyr-S1E missiles, purchased from Russia to repel air assailants, failed to down the Israeli jets accused of penetrating northern Syrian airspace from the Mediterranean the night before.

The new Pantsyr missiles therefore leave Syrian and Iranian airspace vulnerable to hostile intrusion.

Of course, I could be wrong, but as a retired NSA analyst, having set through episodes like this one in the Command Post, as my specialty was required, it is like old home week at Ft. George G. Meade for me.

As you know from my previous blogs, I think this was a natural reaction by Israel to the installation of new Russian high tech intercept hardware that desperately needed to have its capabilities tested by F-151 Israeli aircraft. It would have had the full approval of the United States. Such information would be vital in the event Israel and/or the U.S. decided to strike the Iranian Nuclear Complex and the Scud complex in Syria.

The Syrians are embarrassed as well as the Russians who sold them the equipment, which apparently wasn’t all it was chalked up to be, and the Iranians are no longer smug about the same Russian System being able to protect their Nuclear Complex.

As Promised – Blow Hard Rhetoric out of Red Faced Iran!

September 18, 2007

Iran is whistling loudly in the graveyard, trying to artificially keep up its faded courage. Iran discovered its nuclear and military sites do not have the great protection from aircraft and missile attacks, which was promised to them by the recently acquired Russian Detection Systems.

Syria’s protection was proven to be a myth by the success of the Israeli air strike in northern Syria.

Their anticipated whistling is in the form of threatening rhetoric against Israel. It is blow hard, hot air, rhetoric. They do not have 600 launch proficient Shihab-3’s to send up. Even if they did, none of them have nuclear warheads – Israel’s do! The Shihab-3 testing has been limited. Israel has a missile detection and destruction system that works. Blow hard rhetoric, the U.S. and Israel know is all hot air, is all that Iran can launch upwards at the present time.

Who knows, this might cause even a man as fanatical as Ahmadinejad to back off. I imagine his religious superiors are all over him now like a duck on a June bug. If Syria and Iran want to win a war with Israel they had better back up, develop an effective air and missile shield, allow UN inspectors back into Iran, find a way to secretly develop a deterrent nuclear weapon, and employ some of their well known Persian and Syrian cunning to lead Israel down a dead end peace path of deceit.

Syrian and Iranian Military Confidence is staggered after IAF and Commando Success!

September 23, 2007

http://www.tribulationperiod.com

All the wild screaming coming out of Iran’s President Ahmadinejad is a cover for a blow to his confidence in Iran’s military capabilities.

There are two factors working in the Middle East that are currently appearing in print, which have future implications:

FIRST

Syria, Iran, and Russia are all terribly shocked and embarrassed by the obvious great success of Israel in avoiding what they thought was a magnificent high tech aircraft and missile system, which could not be penetrated.

AND SECOND

Russia’s Putin is rushing to Iran to assure them everything will be just fine, because he does not want the oil laying golden egg goose to stop sending its gold eggs from oil revenues to Russia. He desperately needs them for the Russian Economy.

All this will have a direct affect on the timing of a major Middle East War which, Lord willing, I will discuss in the next Blog.

Russia’s Putin heads to Iran to Placate the Golden Goose!

September 24, 2007

http://www.tribulationperiod.com/

I retired from the USAF Branch of the National Security Agency at Fort George G. Meade in 1971, and began work on my first book, “Tectonic Chaos,” in the early seventies while still a student at the Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas. I am certainly not one of the “Johnnie Come Lately” boys in bringing the Antichrist out of the Middle East Arab World.” I have believed he would come out of Syria or Lebanon from my youth. The following is a quote from my first book, which was published in the mid-seventies, more than thirty years ago.

Begin Quote

“Revelation 13:1 – And I stood upon the s and of the sea,

nolvadex tablets

and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

The ten horns of Revelation 13:1 are ten Arab nations who will soon form the nucleus of the seventh kingdom, and the ten crowns are the kings who will rule then. For years we have pictured the typical Arab as a scrawny little fellow on a camel in

cipro 500

the desert with a rather comic expression on his face. This viewpoint is quickly changing. Oil is slowly replacing the dollar in international importance, and soon Arab nations will have gained economic control of much of the earth’s wealth. We will not try to stop them because of the Soviet Union – And the Soviet Union will not try to stop them because of us and Red China. The world power block will block itself while the Arab nations prosper in their midst.”

End Quote

I watched the above scenario begin in the late sixties while still in the NSA, and knew it would continue until the ten Arab nations attacked Israel, which would be followed some three and one-half years later by China, and what was then the Soviet Union, coming down to join the Antichrist at the final battle of Armageddon.

I wrote my second book, “Tribulation Triad,” through encouragement by Dr. J.B. Powers, to whom I dedicated my third book, “Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit,” which was published in the early eighties.

Sure enough, the Golden Goose Middle East Arab countries have been protected from a take-over of their Golden Egg resources by the United States, Russia, and China not daring to take over the Golden Egg laying resources. They feared what the other two would do, if one attempted to do so. But Russia has indeed been on a Golden Egg Easter hunt since the Soviet Union economy went to ground zero as the Union splintered into many countries. Russia rushed into the Middle East to offer all sorts of high tech military weapons, scientists, and builders to get the golden eggs, which they desperately needed to build up a non-existent Russian economy – and Iraq and Iran made it happen.

North Korea and China did the same, but not on the same grand scale as Russia.

There are several reasons that Putin, as indicated in the article which follows from the DEBKAfiles, is heading for an October 16 meeting in Iran, but the main reason is to exercise damage control on the complete failure of the supposedly invincible Russian aircraft & missile detection & destruction system that was pawned off on Iran and Syria for a large number of golden oil revenue eggs.

blinklist com levitrai

He wants more golden eggs from the Arab oil producing revenues.

The very strong ties between Russia, China, and North Korean with the fanatical factions of the Islamic nations of the Middle East world, will be made very plain at the final battle of Armageddon, when they all come down to get a piece of the possum oil pie.

End of 7 Blogs

The 7 Blogs will help to understand the excerpt which follows by Dr. Jack Wheeler, titled “Silence in Syria, Panic in Iran,” which I received from Tommy Walls, the Senior Pastor of Meadowlake MBC in Conway on September 28, 2007. As I have indicated since September 7, there is a great deal of anxiety in both Iran and Syria since the aerial attack in northern Syria, which destroyed the invincibility myth of the Russian detection and destruction systems. They both are now acutely aware of the vulnerability of their defenses against aircraft or missile attacks on their military facilities.

SILENCE IN SYRIA, PANIC IN IRAN

Dr. Jack Wheeler

One of India’s top ranking generals assigned to liaise with the Iranian military recently returned to New Delhi from several days in Tehran – in a state of complete amazement.

“Everyone in the government and military can only talk of one thing,” he reports. “No matter who I talked to, all they could do was ask me, over and over again, ‘Do you think the Americans will attack us?’ ‘When will the Americans attack us?’ ‘Will the Americans attack us in a joint operation with the Israelis?’ How massive will the attack be?’ on and on, endlessly. The Iranians are in a state of total panic.”

And that was before September 6. Since then, it’s panic-squared in
Tehran. The mullahs are freaking out in fear. Why? Because of the silence in Syria.

On September 6, Israeli Air Force F-15 and F-16s conducted a devastating attack on targets deep inside Syria near the city of Dayr AZ-Zawr.

Israel’s military censors have muzzled the Israeli media, enforcing an extraordinary silence about the identity of the targets. Massive
speculation in the world press has followed, such as Brett Stephens’
Osirak II? in yesterday’s (9/18) Wall St. Journal.

Stephens and most everyone else have missed the real story.

It is not Israel’s silence that “speaks volumes” as he claims, but Syria’s. Why would the Syrian government be so tight-lipped about an act of war perpetrated on their soil

phone number

?

The first half of the answer lies in this story that appeared in the
Israeli media last month (8/13): Syria’s Antiaircraft System Most
Advanced In World. Syria has gone on a profligate buying spree, spending vast sums on Russian systems, “considered the cutting edge in aircraft interception technology.”

Syria now “possesses the most crowded antiaircraft system in the world,” with “more than 200 antiaircraft batteries of different types,” some of which are so new that they have been installed in Syria “before being introduced into Russian operation service.”

While you’re digesting that, take a look at the map of Syria: Notice how far away Dayr AZ-Zawr is from Israel. An F15/16 attack there is not a tiptoe across the border, but a deep, deep penetration of Syrian airspace. And guess what happened with the Russian
super-hyper-sophisticated cutting edge antiaircraft missile batteries when that penetration took place on September 6th. Nothing. El blanko. Silence. The systems didn’t even light up, gave no indication whatever of any detection of enemy aircraft invading Syrian airspace, zip, zero, nada. The Israelis (with a little techie assistance from us) blinded the Russkie antiaircraft systems so completely the Syrians didn’t even know they were blinded.

Now you see why the Syrians have been scared speechless. They thought they were protected – at enormous expense – only to discover they are defenseless. As in naked. Thus the Great Iranian Freak-Out – for this means Iran is just as nakedly defenseless as Syria. I can tell you that there are a lot of folks in the Kirya (IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv) and the Pentagon right now who are really enjoying the mullahs’ predicament.

Let’s face it: scaring the terror masters in Tehran out of their wits is fun. It’s so much fun, in fact, that an attack destroying Iran’s nuclear
facilities and the Revolutionary Guard command/control centers has been delayed, so that France (under new management) can get in on the fun too.

On Sunday (9/16), Sarkozy’s foreign minister Bernard Kouchner announced that “France should prepare for the possibility of war over Iran’s nuclear program.”

All of this has caused Tehran to respond with maniacal threats. On
Monday (9/17), a government website proclaimed that “600 Shihab-3 missiles” will be fired at targets in Israel in response to an attack upon Iran by the US/Israel. This was followed by Iranian deputy air force chief Gen. Mohammad Alavi announcing today (9/19) that “we will attack their (Israeli) territory with our fighter bombers as a response to any attack.” A sure sign of panic is to make a threat that everyone knows is a bluff. So our and Tel Aviv’s response to Iranian bluster is a thank-you-for-sharing yawn and a laugh. Few things rattle the mullahs’ cages more than a yawn and a laugh.

King of the South not likely to attack Soon!

The prediction of Ahmad Jibril concerning an immediate Israeli attack against Syria in the Jerusalem Post is interesting, but very unlikely to occur as soon as he implies.

I would love to see Ahmad Jibril’s prediction of Israel attacking Syria “very soon,” come true because if that were to be the case, Israel would definitely win the ensuing war. However, that is not what I expect to happen, and I do not expect the prophecy of Daniel 11:40-42 to be fulfilled prior to 2010 and, when it finally is fulfilled, the initial push of the king of the south (Israel) will be met by a planned counterattack from the king of the north (Syria), which will drive Israel into the Negev Wilderness, where she will remain for some three and one-half years.

Daniel 11:40-42 – And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

The important thing about this prophecy has never been WHEN it would be fulfilled, but knowing it WOULD one day be fulfilled, living one day at a time as a believer with a heart committed to serving him.

I started guesstimating the time of the attack that would start the last three and one-half years of this present age of the Gentiles many years ago, but only because so many people asked me about it. It has always been a guess, no more and no less!

I have tried since 1971 to fight day by day against the evil in my flesh and the world by his power in seeking first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness. If I am still doing that on the day any prophecy is fulfilled, the ‘morrow’ of the prophecy will have taken thought for the things

Jibril: Israel will attack Syria soon

JPost.com Staff, THE JERUSALEM POST

September 28, 2007

Israel has already made a decision to attack Syria and was just mulling over where to land its first strike, Ahmad Jibril, leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed in an interview published Friday by Arabic newspaper Al Hadat.

Jibril estimated that Israeli action, several weeks after an alleged IAF foray into Syria on September 6, would likely be a wide-scale operation, and would probably be answered with attacks by Iran, Hizbullah in Lebanon and the Palestinians of Syria.

“I believe Israel has prepared all likely scenarios for war with Syria, but they are still considering where they will land the first strike, which will come very soon,” Jibril said. “They are weighing whether to attack on one front or on multiple fronts.

“There is an American Israeli plan, backed by silent agreement from the Arab world, to change the balance of power in the Middle East,” he added.

The PFLP leader said also that Israel was wary of a “domino effect” that would drag other countries into the conflict. “The Israelis have not formed a final estimate regarding the possibility of Iranian intervention if they will attack Syria. Secondly, the Lebanese resistance, led by Hizbullah’s Islamic resistance, will intervene and strike the Zionist home front with missiles,” he said.

“The Syrian brothers will not be afraid to protect their land and will continue the war with the Zionist enemy, and we, the Palestinians in Syria, will not sit by idly – we will be on the front lines,” Jibril added.

However, despite Jibril’s claim that “Hizbullah would also participate,” officials in the organization hinted that they would not interfere in a future conflict. Two weeks ago, Sheikh Na’im Kassem, Deputy Secretary General of Hizbullah and Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah’s second in command, said that Israeli estimates that the group would try to take revenge on Syria’s behalf were no more that “journalistic assessments based on insufficient evidence.”
