The San Remo Conference was an international meeting of the post-World War I Allied Supreme Council, held in Sanremo, Italy, from 19 to 26 April 1920. It was attended by the four Principal Allied Powers of World War I who were represented by the prime ministers of Britain (David Lloyd George), France (Alexandre Millerand) and Italy (Francesco Nitti) and by Japan’s Ambassador K. Matsui.

It determined the allocation of Class “A” League of Nations mandates for administration of the former Ottoman-ruled lands of the Middle East.

The precise boundaries of all territories were left unspecified, to “be determined by the Principal Allied Powers” and were not finalized until four years later. The conference’s decisions were embodied in the stillborn Treaty of Sèvres (Section VII, Art 94-97). As Turkey rejected this treaty, the conference’s decisions were only finally confirmed by the Council of the League of Nations on 24 July 1922, and when Turkey accepted the terms of the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne.

France had decided to govern Syria directly, and took action to enforce the French Mandate of Syria before the terms had been accepted by the Council of the League of Nations. The French issued an ultimatum and intervened militarily at the Battle of Maysalun in June 1920. They deposed the indigenous Arab government and removed King Faisal from Damascus in August 1920. Great Britain also appointed a high commissioner and established their own mandatory regime in Palestine, without first obtaining approval from the Council of the League of Nations.

The San Remo Resolution adopted on 25 April 1920 incorporated the Balfour Declaration of 1917.

It and Article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations were the basic documents upon which the Mandate for Palestine was constructed.[10] . Britain received the mandate for Palestine and Iraq; France gained control of Syria including present-day Lebanon.

End of the Excerpts from Wikipedia

Following are six states that were formed by France after the San Remo Conference following the defeat of King Faisal. It is from this area of “Greater Syria” I believe the Antichrist will arise.

Following the San Remo conference and the defeat of King Faisal’s short-lived monarchy in Syria at the Battle of Maysalun, the French general Henri Gouraud, in breach of the conditions of the mandate, subdivided the French Mandate of Syria into six states. They were the states of Damascus (1920), Aleppo (1920), Alawites (1920), Jabal Druze (1921), the autonomous Sanjak of Alexandretta (1921) (modern-day Hatay), and the French Mandate of Lebanon (1920) which became later the modern country of Lebanon.

This area includes Modern Syria, Lebanon, extreme Southern Turkey, and Northwestern Iraq, which were all once a part of the ancient Assyrian Empire.

Part 5

May 3, 2003

Micah 5:1-4 – Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. [2] But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. [3] Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. [4] And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

These verses, exposited in Parts 1 through 4, were written more than 700 years before the birth of Christ. And yet they present: Bethlehem as His birthplace, His rejection as ruler over Israel, His last Passover in the daughter of troops Jerusalem, His head beatings by the troops of Pontius Pilate, Herod, and the High Priest, His rejection as the judge of Israel, His Father’s siege against Israel because of their rejection of the Son (which has lasted some 2000 years), Christ’s temporary rejection of Israel, His Second Advent as Messiah after Israel’s travail of 1260 days in the Negev Wilderness, at which time His brethren will return with Him to the nation of Israel, and the first 1000 years of His eternal kingdom, which phases into the final heaven age when the present earth and heavens pass away.

Micah 5:5 – And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

Now, in verse 5, we find that “this man” will himself “be the peace” because He personally brings it in by Himself when he returns to be “great unto the ends of the earth” for 1000 years. “This man” who brings “the peace” of a thousand years is, of course, Jesus Christ. He is the primary contextual subject from verses 1 through 5. What happens to motivate His return to bring in the millennial reign is the movement of the Assyrian into the land of Israel.

cipro 500

It is the final defeat and destruction of “the Assyrian” that will mark Christ’s Second Advent, and the beginning of His millennial reign.

When Micah wrote his prophecies the Assyrians had already driven into the northern Kingdom of Israel, and all that remained of Israel proper was its southern Kingdom of Judah. So what were the borders of the land of Assyria when Micah wrote the fifth chapter of his book? The borders of the Assyrian territory stretched northward from roughly where Ramallah is located in the West Bank to the present day southern border of Turkey, and eastward to the Mediterranean Sea to establish its western limits, then westward across the Euphrates River to the Tigris River north of modern Baghdad in Iraq. Technically, I suppose one might be able to say this future “Assyrian” might come out of southern Turkey, northern Iraq, or Lebanon, but since modern day Syria occupies some 85% of the area covered by the Assyrian empire at the time of Micah’s writings, I am persuaded the Assyrian antichrist will come out of Syria. The possible argument that Micah 5:5 was fulfilled during the old Assyrian invasion of Micah’s day, is thwarted by the context pattern of the four verses before it all still being unfulfilled at the time they were written, and then being linked contextually to verse 5 by “this man,” and “the peace.” Additionally, this argument is smashed by the verse that follows it.

Micah 5:6 – And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

From the time of Micah’s writings to the present day, Israel has never “wasted the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof.” I will exposit specifically on both these locations in Prophecy Update Number 67, Lord willing.

The “Assyrian” of Micah 5:5 is not a European, an American, a Russian, an Eskimo, an Aborigine, an Ethiopian, or a platypus. He is an Assyrian, who becomes chief prince of the land where the descendants of Meshech and Tubal were dwelling when Ezekiel wrote his prophecies. I will elaborate on this in future updates, Lord willing. The expression involving “seven shepherds and eight principal men” is most assuredly an oft used Hebrew idiom. It was the Hebrew manner of expressing “more than enough.” Seven is the Hebrew word for “complete,” implying “enough,” and when “eight” is added to it, the expression means “more than enough.” When the Assyrian comes into Israel, and treads within its borders north of Beersheba for 1260 days, then Jesus will return to restore peace for 1000 years on this planet. Christ’s Second Advent is accompanied by some 5/6 of the Assyrian’s armies being destroyed by the brightness of His coming. His destruction of the Assyrian and his false prophet will make whatever force Israel is able to muster up in the Negev for the battle of Armageddon “more than enough.”

When the Assyrian sets on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, as the willful King of the North preparing to launch his final attack on Israel at the battle of Armageddon, he will be beyond all help by men and Satan.

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ezekiel 38:14-16 – Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? [15] And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: [16] And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

Zechariah 13:8,9 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. [9] And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

Revelation 12:6 –And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Daniel 11:45 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

[23] Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord. Damascus gains in stature as key Middle East player

US frustration grows over nation’s regional policies

GULF NEWS

Beirut: Syria has bounced back from years of international isolation and is wielding its influence in crises around the Middle East, shrugging off US attempts to pull it away from its alliances with Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah.

months of deadlock.

Now with Lebanon’s factions heading for a possible new violent collision, Arabs have had to turn to Syria in hopes of ensuring peace, even as Damascus backs Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Washington has increasingly expressed its frustration with Syria, which it says is stirring up tension through its support of Hezbollah. Last week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Syria’s behaviour “has not met our hopes and expectations” over the past 20 months and that it has “not met its international obligations.”

Since 2005, Washington — along with its Arab allies — hoped to squeeze Syrian influence out of its smaller neighbour Lebanon. But Arab powers that once shunned Damascus, particularly Saudi Arabia, have had to acknowledge its regional weight.

Differences

This month, Syrian and Saudi officials have been holding talks trying to avert an explosion in Lebanon. It is a remarkable turnaround from several years ago, when the two countries were locked in a bitter rivalry and differences of opinion between their leaders, Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.

Fears of violence in Lebanon are high because an international tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri is expected soon to indict members of Hezbollah.

Many Lebanese fear that could break the country’s fragile unity government grouping Hezbollah and pro-Western parties loyal to Hariri’s son, Sa’ad, who is the current Prime Minister, and even lead to clashes between the two sides. With Syria’s backing, Hezbollah demands Sa’ad Hariri break off Lebanon’s ties with the tribunal.

Little is known about the Syrian-Saudi talks, but Lebanon’s daily As Safir reported last Monday that the contacts have produced a five-point compromise plan in which Hariri, a close Saudi ally, is likely to declare Hezbollah innocent of the assassination once the tribunal issues indictments.

Setback for US

Such a deal would be a setback for Washington, which has pressed for support of the tribunal, and for pro-US factions in Lebanon who fear the country is coming under Hezbollah’s thumb.

But it would mark a new success for Syria and illustrate how it has come to restore its regional clout largely on its own terms. It has done so while ignoring incentives from Washington. US President Barack Obama has made repeated overtures to Damascus this year, nominating the first US ambassador to Syria since 2005 and sending top diplomats to meet Al Assad, in hopes of swaying it away from its alliance with Iran and regional fighter groups.

Still, “Syria did not abandon Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah or its principles regarding the [Mideast] peace process,” said Sami Moubayed, a Syrian political analyst who is the editor-in-chief of Forward Magazine.

Chilled relations

Relations with Washington have now chilled before they even had a chance to fully warm up.

Last month, Al Assad accused the US of sowing chaos around the world.

” Is Afghanistan stable

US Ambassador Susan Rice in turn accused Syria of displaying “flagrant disregard” for Lebanon’s sovereignty, citing its provision of increasingly sophisticated weapons to Hezbollah and other fighter groups in violation of a UN resolution.

Iran’s Baghdad feat will force US to engage Hizballah, Hamas

DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis

November 15, 2010, 2:13 PM (GMT+2:00)

Iyad Allawi, whose Al Iraqiya party, won Iraq’s general election

after clomid

last April but last week lost the premiership to the pro-Iranian incumbent Nouri Al-Malaki, was forced to admit Friday, Nov. 12 that “the concept of power-sharing in Iraq was dead now. For Iraq” he said, “there will be tensions and violence, probably.”

That day, too, DEBKAfile’s sources report, Hassan Nasrallah told a closed meeting of his Lebanese Hizballah activists that what happened in Baghdad is destined for Beirut.

He was underlining the new reality in the Middle East where Iran and its allies are beating the West out in one crisis after another, forcing pro-US and pro-Saudi political forces to come to terms with antagonists sponsored by Tehran and serving its interests rather than those of Washington. No one in the region buys the proposition that the Obama administration can count as a successful feat the Baghdad power-sharing deal. It may terminate the eight-month stalemate during which Iraq had no government, but it also brought into the Al Maliki administration the anti-American radical Shiite Sadrists, whose affairs are run from a party headquarters in Iran.

The emergence of the new government in Baghdad is seen in fact as joining the list of flops scored by the Obama administration as a result of wrong tactics: By first backing Alawi, then switching to his rival Al Maliki, the US gave Tehran the edge in the contest between the two rivals and a springboard for further gains.
The second loser was Saudi Arabia, which poured more than a billion dollars in the campaign of Allawi and his Sunni following who have been beaten out by the pro-Tehran candidate.

In addition to boosting the violence plaguing Iraq – as Allawi predicted – Iran has perpetuated both the ethnic and religious divisions of the national government, parliament while also fostering the national, political, ethnic and religious conflicts diving the country outside the capital. The provides Tehran with the perfect game board for playing partisan strife to enhance its influence, a game in which the Americans failed.

The Kurdish Jalal Talabani’s return to the presidency will in no way put a stop the Kurds fighting for control of the northern city of Kirkuk and its rich oil fields, towns in central Iraq and the skies over their autonomous region with a view to establishing an independent Kurdish stronghold powerful enough to achieve its aims by force of arms.

Neither will the election of the Sunni Osama al-Nujeifi’s election as Speaker of Parliament, a post held previously by a Sunni politician too, dismantle the barriers facing Sunni politicians since the US 2003 invasion of Iraq and the fall of the Sunni Baathist regime.

how do antibiotics affect birth control pills

The Sunni tribal Awakening Councils, which helped US surge forces defeat al Qaeda in 2006 and 2007, will be further encouraged to restore their ties with Al Qaeda by the Al Malilki regime’s refusal to promote Sunnis to top positions in government, keep them on the national payroll and keep some of their leaders in detention.

aphex twin ventolin lyrics

It is an open secret in Iraq that Maliki himself, whom parliament Friday awarded a month to form a government, is completely under the thumb of the Sadrists and their Iranian masters and in no position to set about healing the deep dissent afflicting the Iraqi people.

The next ton of bricks about to fall on Barack Obama’s head now comes from Lebanon and the Palestinians, both of whom are falling ever deeper into Syria’s clutches. As one well-informed American put it his week: “As Iraq goes, So Goes the Middle East.”

Iraqi Shiites need to choose between country and religion

Al Maliki’s second government should do more than achieve sectarian balance and deliver good governance

By Francis Matthew, Editor at Large

Published: November 18, 2010

GULF NEWS

It is a tragedy for Iraq that the overwhelming need for security has driven its politics into the dead-end of sectarian vacuousness.

cipro 500

The Shiite politicians in Iraq hold the key to the country’s future. They have the choice of being more Iraqi in their outlook, or being more influenced by Iran. They will need to decide if they are going to put the interests of their country first and work with Iraqis of all political and sectarian backgrounds, or whether they will pay more attention to the wishes of the Iranian government.

And this is not just an Iraqi issue, despite all the pious rhetoric claiming that the Iraqi parliament is an internal Iraqi affair. The whole of the Gulf is watching nervously to see which way the new government will go, with every expectation that Iran will garner more influence over the decision of the new government.

Although Shiite power has been obvious from the country’s demographics since 2002, when the Americans toppled Saddam Hussain and announced a democracy, it has never been so clear as now, after last week’s agonised result of the inconclusive March election. The near dead-heat for the post of prime minister between the Shiite Nouri Al Maliki and Sunni Eyad Allawi resulted in an eight-month political deadlock, which was finally broken by Shiite leaders making up their minds who to support.

When Moqtada Al Sadr, the radical Shiite leader of 42 members of parliament, agreed to an Iranian request to back Al Maliki, it was the end of Allawi’s hopes and a powerful illustration of Iranian authority. It was initially surprising that Al Sadr agreed to support Al Maliki, since Al Sadr and other Shiites in the Iraq National Alliance had split from Al Maliki’s government in fury when Al Maliki sent the Iraqi army into Basra to regain control from Shiite militias.

The outcome is a government headed by Shiite Al Maliki, supported by Shiite Al Sadr, with the Kurds keeping their grip on the Presidency.

best cialis levitra viagra which

The Sunni Allawai has been given a new role as head of a National Security Council, which has yet to be formed and has unclear authority or powers, and also the right to appoint the speaker of the parliament.

The question agonising his Sunni supporters, and Sunnis throughout the region, is whether Allawi has been fobbed off with an offer that gave him no power. Clearly Allawi thought he had been fooled last week, when parliament refused to vote to create the new National Security Council when it met to vote Al Maliki back into power.

There is a real danger that the new government will ignore the large Sunni minority in Iraq, triggering real resentment. The Sunnis were stunned and delighted by the result in March when Allawi won 92 seats, slightly more than the incumbent Al Maliki’s State of Law party which managed 89 seats.

But Sunni delight that elections could deliver a result in their favour soon turned to bitter disappointment as the horse trading between the parties lost its direction, and finally deprived the leader of the largest party the chance to form a government.

It remains to be seen where the Shiite politicians with their new power will take Iraq, but two things are already clear: First, the Americans are losing influence very fast indeed, and second, sectarian politics are becoming a reality.

The election result was a deep shock to Washington, and part of the reason for the long delay in the Iraqis finding a coalition was American resistance to a Shiite continuing to be prime minister.

But in the end,

the Americans were unable to muster enough support from any side to achieve what they wanted.

Even the Kurds dismissed repeated American requests for Jalal Talabani to relinquish the presidency to Allawi.

And the Kurds owe a huge debt to the Americans after their political safety was protected by the American no-fly zone after 1992 and their autonomy by the American occupiers since 2002. But both Masoud Barzani and Jalal Talabani crudely dismissed US President Barack Obama’s and US Vice-President Joe Biden’s personal pleas to give in.

Tribal disputes

But Iraq faces a more serious danger if it allows the entrenchment of sectarian politics.

The fact that the Kurds have held the presidency for two terms, that a Shiite will continue to hold the prime ministership, and the Sunnis are providing the speaker, sounds far too like Lebanon for Iraq’s good.

Effective politics in the 21st century will be about good governance, and vision to educate people and give them the opportunity to seek a better life. This requires a government with policies that go beyond giving each sect a position, and it requires parties that offer social and economic manifestos rather than sectarian balance.

It is a tragedy for Iraq that the overwhelming need for security has driven its politics into the dead-end of sectarian vacuousness.
