Egyptians have been scattered among the many Middle East terrorist groups since they were subdued by the last two Egyptian Presidents, and proportionately are well represented among them, as are the terrorists of Saudi Arabia.

I do not believe Zawahiri is the Antichrist, but he has been the brains of Al-Qaeda for a long time, is just as inhuman and fanatical as was Osama bin Laden, and is likely to continue in that roll unless he is taken out by a drone strike.

Survey of Egyptian Opinion shows Overwhelming Majority in Favor of Death for Apostates

According to a Pew Forum survey, an overwhelming majority of those polled in Islam-dominated Egypt want those who commit adultery to be stoned, while thieves should have their hands cut off and apostates from the Mohammaden religion put to death. In addition, the survey shows that much of the Egyptian population that in recent days has rebelled against the thirty-year regime of Hosni Mubarak says that it prefers democracy to any other form of government.

The Coded Messages of Ayman al-Zawahiri

Introduction

During the bombing campaign by

the United States in Afghanistan in 2001, many of the leaders of Al-Qaeda escaped their stations in Kabul and in other cities, leaving behind a treasure trove of computers and documents. One of the computers left behind belonged to Dr.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Osama bin Laden’s second in command in Al-Qaeda and the primary source of its Islamist ideology.

Al-Zawahiri’s PC was found in October 2001 in a building in Kabul that was used by Al-Qaeda as an office. The London-based Saudi paper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat gained access to al-Zawahiri’s computer, which contained many of his messages to his collaborators about organizational and ideological matters. The newspaper had also obtained copies of correspondence with Al-Zawahiri from Islamist organizations in London as well as from former members of Islamic jihad.

The recorded messages in the hard-drive and the correspondence between al-Zawahiri and members of the jihadist movement shed light not only on the mode of operation and management of Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations but also on al-Zawahiri’s own thinking and concerns as well as his interaction with former associates in Egypt who had opted to dispense with the culture of violence. The messages often employ poetic language reflecting al-Zawahiri’s intellectual, in addition to his organizational, abilities; further, they are often in code and signed by numerous al-Zawahiri’s pseudonyms. To decode them, the daily Asharq Alawsat sought the help of Islamist groups in London and elsewhere, and serialized the messages in seven installments, published in the second half of December 2002.

The International Front for Fighting the Jews and the Crusaders

Al-Zawahiri’s coded messages covered many themes and reflected the evolution in his thinking that eventually led to his co-signing with Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda, a declaration regarding “The International Front for Fighting the Jews and the Crusaders” in February 1998.

Particularly interesting was the correspondence from either shortly before or shortly after the bombing of the American embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Kampala, Uganda, on August 7, 1998 which is the first tangible terrorist act of the International Front.

The merging the Islamic Jihad movement with bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda was viewed by his supporters as conceding the jihad [holy war] against the government in Egypt in favor of a globalized jihad advocated by bin Laden.

Many of al-Zawahiri’s supporters considered the move unwise because their organization, the Islamic Jihad, was now confronted by a great power [the United States] and because many of its leaders had little faith in what they perceived as bin Laden’s questionable record on promises. As a result, many of al-Zawahiri’s supporters have deserted him, and he was compelled to borrow money from bin Laden and from other donors to finance the basic activities of his movement as well as his basic needs.

The Muslim Brotherhood opposition group in Egypt has called for a review of the 1978 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel and says it should be resubmitted to a “freely elected” parliament for approval.

Egypt is due to hold parliamentary elections in September and the group is likely to emerge with the largest bloc in the assembly.

“We should now raise our voice to ask for: an end to normalization [with Israel] which has given our enemy stability; an end to [Egyptian] efforts to secure from infiltrators the borders of the Zionists; the abolition of all [joint] economic interests such as the Qualified Industrial Zones agreement and the export of Egyptian gas to Israel,” said Mohamed Badie, the Brotherhood’s leader. Syria Crackdown Escalates, Spreads

The Syrian regime tightened its grip on protest hot spots around the country Sunday, dispatching tanks into the town of Tafas in the south and continuing to shoot and detain citizens as part of a relentless crackdown. At least 14 people were killed in Homs by sharpshooters deployed on tall buildings who have been firing at anyone who stepped outside, according to Wissam Tarif of the human rights group Insan. He said nearly 10,000 people have been taken into custody since the uprising began in March, and the death toll stands at 716. The demonstrations have mushroomed to encompass virtually the entire country.

AMMAN – Syrian forces entered the town of Tafas near Deraa in the southwestern Hauran Plain on Sunday, residents said, in a campaign aimed at crushing an uprising across the country against autocratic Baathist rule.

Tanks and troops also stormed two main neighborhoods in Homs overnight, human rights campaigners said, in the first incursion into residential areas in Syria’s third city.

Protests, which began in Deraa on March 18, erupted on Friday across Hauran, a strategic agricultural area bordering Jordan to the south and the Golan Heights to the west.

At least eight tanks moved into the town of Tafas around 6 a.m. (0300 GMT). Residents said they heard gunfire and that army and forces broke into houses to arrest youths after occupying the center of the town of 30,000 people.

Tanks also encircled the adjoining town of Dael near the main highway to Jordan as the army intensified its presence across the Hauran region having partly pulled out of Deraa this week and re-deployed in nearby rural towns, witnesses said.

“We knew they will not forgive us for our solidarity with Deraa. They are also targeting Tafas because it is harboring lots of the youth who escaped the attack on Deraa,” one of the residents said.

Tens of thousands of villagers from Hauran converged on Tafas on Friday and chanted slogans demanding Assad’s overthrow.

Prevented from entering Deraa, still encircled by tanks after nearly two weeks, they staged one of the largest demonstrations in Hauran despite the heavy security presence in the plain, witnesses said.

In Banias on the Mediterranean coast, where rights campaigners said Syrian forces shot dead six civilians in an attack on Sunni districts on Saturday, mass arrests continued.

A Western diplomat has said 7,000 people had been arrested since mid-March.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 200 more people have been arrested in Banias by soldiers in raids on houses in the city, including a 10-year-old child.

The attack on Banias this weekend raised sectarian tensions.

The United States, reacting to the death of 27 protesters on Friday, threatened to take new steps against Syria’s Alawite rulers. Washington imposed more targeted sanctions on Syrian officials that excluded Assad.

The European Union later imposed similar sanctions.

A human rights group said security forces have killed at least 800 civilians in the seven-week-old uprising. Until the uprising began in mid-March, Assad – from the minority heterodox Alawite sect – had been emerging from Western isolation after defying the United States over Iraq and reinforcing ties with Iran to the concern of Syrian Sunnis.

Prof. John Myhill of the University of Haifa said foreign media tend to miss the religious undertones of the Syria uprising.

“Religion is a very, very large part of it,” he said.

“In the coastal areas where Alawites are the majority, the army is simply arming Alawites who aren’t even in the military. They’re giving them weapons and saying, ‘Go out and kill Sunnis.’ The Sunnis can’t be missing this.

“The government is not going to give up, no matter what.

It’ll hold on no matter what, far longer than Muammar Gaddafi in Libya, because it’s not just the Assad family [at risk]. If the regime falls, there’s going to be genocide against the Alawites,” said Myhill, an expert on the intersection of religion and politics and author of the monograph “Language, Religion and Emerging Nationalisms in the Arab World.”

“It’s going to be like Iraq, except they’re outnumbered six to 1, and no one is going to be able to help them except maybe Hezbollah. People from the outside don’t evidently realize this,” he said.

“It’s clear this isn’t fun and games, or just camping out in the square as it was in Egypt. This is a matter of life and death.”

Once the moderate Arab nations see the Antichrist’s initial success, they will rush to join the original 10 horns with him to become a part of his Caliphate Kingdom. Egypt revolution groups plan secular election strategy

The protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square spawned new groups of activists

More than 2,000 political activists have met in Egypt to try to create a unified movement to press for deeper democratic reforms.

It was the largest political gathering since the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak in February.

The activists hope to create a new secular political movement for an election scheduled for September.

The organisers of this conference wanted it to represent all the groups that took part in the January uprising.

Among the more than 2,000 attendees were academics, business figures, workers and farmers, and a handful of Muslim clerics.

‘Dictatorship of the minority’

Their goal was to set a clear agenda for the democratic transformation of Egypt – activists complained that they were being excluded by the military council that now rules the country.

But with such a multitude of opinions, agreeing a single agenda was difficult, although they said they would try to present a single slate of candidates to contest September’s general election.

Secular Egyptians fear the poll will be dominated by the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood.

Mamdouh Hamzah, an engineer who initiated and largely funded the conference, said: “We want the next parliament to represent all facets of Egyptian society, not one facet.

“Because if one group has a majority of the parliament we are facing the dictatorship of a minority.”

The mostly young activists acknowledge they lack the experience of the Muslim Brotherhood, and that the election is taking place too soon for them.

The activists hope the 60-member National Council they plan to establish next week can put pressure on the military to take on board their concerns, in particular over the drafting of a new constitution, a task being given to the next parliament.

Who Else Is Condemning the U.S. for Killing Bin Laden?

A close ideological link exists between the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda. The two organizations aspire to the similar goal of establishing an Islamic caliphate and imposing Islam over the entire world via jihad. Al-Qaeda sprang from the foundations of the Muslim Brotherhood. Osama bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, started out as Muslim Brotherhood activists.

The Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates in Jordan and the Palestinian territories openly condemn bin Laden’s “assassination,” disproving the claim that the Muslim Brotherhood is a pragmatic movement. The Region: Egypt pipeline bombing is only the beginning

A real revolution and full-scale regional war might be the end.

Gas flames 20 meters high signal the birth of a new Middle East. That pillar of fire, unlike the biblical one, indicates that Egyptians are following new, would-be prophets into the desert. A new Pew poll, despite the positive spin by the mass media, is very worr

isome.

Once again the Egyptian pipeline supplying 40 percent of Israel’s natural gas supply has been bombed. It had just reopened after the previous bombing, following a delay so long as to make one suspect it wasn’t just technical. The terrorists simply waited until damage from the prior attack was repaired before launching another one. No doubt, this process will continue. This is a major setback for Israel – a high price for having trusted in trade with an Arab neighbor with whom peace had been concluded – supposedly – more than 30 years ago.

Whether or not Egypt formally renounces or demands changes in the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, that too is finished as a source of stability.

Egyptians support tearing it up by a 54 to 36 percent margin. But many of that 36% would probably support major revisions – a position now advocated by most Egyptian politicians.

Among other developments, the Egyptian government supported Syria in the UN to prevent any condemnation of that country for repression of peaceful demonstrators. Arab solidarity has trumped any consistent stand supporting democracy and human rights. Mubarak had a bad relationship with a terrorist-sponsoring, anti- American Syria. The new regime will reverse that. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Nabil Elaraby has announced that the Egypt-Gaza Strip border will soon reopen fully, meaning that arms, money and terrorists can flow freely into Gaza.

As if that’s not enough, the Egyptian government helped negotiate a Fatah-Hamas deal that radicalizes the Palestinian Authority and makes negotiations, much less peace, impossible.

As part of this deal, Egyptian troops will enter the Gaza Strip.

And what will they do there

? Help unify the Hamas and Fatah militaries, in theory.

But that’s not what’s going to happen. What is more likely is that the Egyptian officers will become military advisers to Hamas. And what if Hamas attacks Israel and Israel retaliates? Will this trigger a war with Egypt, especially if Egyptians are accidentally killed?

ACCORDING TO this new Pew Poll, Egyptians view the Muslim Brotherhood favorably by a margin of 75% to 20%. Asked directly, 31% say they sympathize with Islamists; 30% don’t. While 62% say laws should strictly follow the Koran, most of the others say all laws should merely adhere to its values and spirit.

What this amounts to is that roughly one-third of Egyptians want an Islamist state and support the Bro

therhood, one-third are open to its propaganda, and one-third are opposed (including, presumably, the country’s 10+% Christians).

Egyptians respect the military – at least for now – and think well of the democratic movements that made the revolution. But when it comes to programmatic sympathy for an organized group, Islamists are clearly the strongest force.

The poll also shows some interesting variations in public opinion. Contrary to Western expectations, sympathy for the Brotherhood is greater among high-income (43%) and middle-income (41%) than among low-income Egyptians (26%).

Remember the conventional wisdom that poverty and ignorance breeds Islamism

? It’s just flat wrong; this finding suggests that revolutionary Islamism might be more a wave of the future than a relic of the past. Moreover, it shows that even the middle and upper classes don’t naturally embrace democratic moderation – another conventional wisdom in the West.

Islamism, like Marxism, is a coherent ideology that fulfills the needs of people looking for systematic answers to their problems. Why are the poorer less Islamist? I would suggest two factors. Poorer Egyptians are likely to be more traditional in religious terms, and loyal to the nationalism of the old regime. In other words, they are relatively passive recipients of what they’ve been taught in religious and political terms.

This explains the seemingly contradictory finding that while 59% with only a primary school education want to annul the treaty with Israel, “only” 40% of those with a college education do. Xenophobia is a simple idea quite consistent with both tradition and the Arab nationalism dominant in Egypt for

the past 60 years.

Here, we see the potential power of anti-Israel and anti-American demagoguery. The most sophisticated, I’ll bet, would prefer some clever maneuver that guts the treaty without making Egypt look bad internationally.

Speaking of attitudes toward the United States, guess what? President Barack Obama’s assistance in wrecking the old regime overnight brought no additional popularity to America. Attitudes toward the United States are negative by a 79 to 20% margin. Hostile views of Obama personally are less overwhelming, but still strong – 64 to 35% – and unchanged from before the revolution.

The conclusion was that the US involvement was negative by a 39 to 22% margin, with 35% saying it was neither, which also represents a defeat for Obama. In other words, Obama’s actions convinced no one.

As for presidential candidates, Amr Moussa scored an amazing 90% positive rating. Readers know I feel he will be Egypt’s next president and follow a radical nationalist policy, opposed to Islamism but willing to make concessions to the Brotherhood that might be the first stage in a longer-term Islamist transformation.

FINALLY, THERE is a new force to be reckoned with: Islamists more radical than the Brotherhood. Suddenly these groups – many comprised of former Brotherhood activists – are getting a lot of media time. Some think they could get 5 to 10% of the parliamentary seats if they run candidates, in addition to the Brotherhood’s likely 30%.

Also, these are going to be the people committing a growing number of terrorist attacks and assaults on Christians.

The natural gas pipeline is only the beginning. A real revolution and fullscale regional war might be the end.

Matthew 24:3 – And as he sat upon the mount of Olives,

the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be

? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of

the end of the world?

JESUS ANSWERED 3 QUESTIONS BUT NOT IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER!

THEY ARE LINGUISTICALLY SEPARATED FROM ONE ANOTHER BY THE FOLLOWING EXPRESSIONS IN LUKE’S OLIVET DISCOURSE:

(1) “BUT THE END IS NOT BY AND BY’ – LUKE 21:9

(2) “THEN SAID HE UNTO THEM” – LUKE 21:10

(3) “BUT BEFORE ALL THESE” – LUKE 21:12

(4) “UNTIL THE TIMES OF” – LUKE 21:24

(5) “AND THERE SHALL BE” – LUKE 21:25

In Blogs 2 and 3 it was established that Luke 21:10,11 is the answer Jesus gave his disciples to their second question in Matthew 24:3, the question being “and what shall be the sign of thy coming?”

Matthew 24:3 – And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Matthew also provides the answer in Matthew 24:7,8, and calls the events in it “the beginning of sorrows,” but Luke does not? Why?

Matthew 24:7,8 – For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. [8] All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Luke 21:10,11 – Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: [11] And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights

and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke does not call it “the beginning of sorrows” because he adds “fearful sights and great signs,” and they are not to occur in this time period, but rather in the time of the answer to the third question. And the third question was what shall be the sign “of the end of the world (age)?” You can see this by linking these two signs from Luke 21:11 with 21:25.

Luke 21:11 – And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

In Luke 21:8,9 and 12-24 Christ answers the first question, “when shall these things be,” or what signs will occur before the temple’s leveling? In the last part of verse 24 he tells the disciples what will happen to the Jews after the temple is leveled until the times of the Gentiles for Jerusalem are fulfilled. This period was from 70 A.D. to 1967. We are now waiting for the “fullness” of the Gentiles to come in (Romans 11:25) at the 2nd Advent of Christ. Luke 21:12-24 has already been fulfilled. We are now waiting for Luke 21:25-27 to be fulfilled.

Luke 21:8,9 – And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. [9] But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Luke 21:12-24 – But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake. [13] And it sh all turn to you for

a testimony. [14] Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: [15] For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

[16] And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. [17] And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. [18] But there shall not an hair of your head perish. [19] In your patience possess ye your souls. [20] And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

[21] Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

[22] For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may

be fulfilled. [23] But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days!

US battle much broader than fight against bin Laden

Analysis: America must realize that it has “crushed the serpent’s head” but has not killed the body.

Osama bin Laden did not only establish al- Qaida – he took the idea of a global Islamic caliphate and turned it into an operational plan.

He became a role model, the representative of a jihadist vision shared by millions of followers.

Above all, bin Laden established a global jihad terror network.

That organization, of which al-Qaida forms the epicenter, is bolstered by regional jihadist terrorist groups including those throughout the Arabian Peninsula, headquartered in Yemen and headed by the US-born Anwar al-Awlaki, the North African organization created on the basis of the Algerian-based Al-Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb, and in Iraq.

Notably, these organizations were more active in recent years and are perhaps more dangerous than the core al-Qaida group, whose leadership was busy worrying about self-preservation, issuing false threats and inciting Muslim extremists around the world to carry out terrorist attacks.

This includes, for example, the attempted bombing of an airliner over Detroit on December 25, 2009, the car bomb in New York’s Times Square that failed to explode on May 1, 2010, and last October’s attempted attacks on passenger and freight aircraft using explosives hidden in printers.

All of these were designed and planned by al-Qaida based in Yemen.

Bin Laden’s assassination does not affect the capabilities of these organizations and, in fact, only raises their motivation to perpetrate revenge attacks.

Beyond the core circle of al-Qaida and its proxies, there exists throughout the Western world a vast network of independent and local jihadists operating in Muslim communities.

Inspired by al-Qaida leaders, independent homegrown terrorists incite and initiate suicide operations, but do so without direction from, or operational connection to, al-Qaida.

This complex jihad terrorist network has now lost its global leader and symbol, but not its operational capability.

Therefore one must consider that terrorist elements will try to avenge the death of their leader in three ways.

In the near future, homegrown terrorists will likely try to carry out shooting attacks, plant bombs and perhaps even attempt suicide attacks. These attacks will target American sites and symbols in Arab and Muslim countries such as embassies, foreign tourists and companies such as McDonald’s or Coca-Cola.

Alternatively, attacks might be carried out in the West by radical Islamic elements stemming from within the local Muslim community.

Another possibility is that jihadist organizations maintaining operational relations with al-Qaida will try to carry out more complex and serious attacks against American and Western targets across the globe, especially within the United States.

In the long term, it is more than likely that core al-Qaida elements, led by bin Laden’s successor and deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, likely the organization’s strategic ideologue, will try to carry out a mega-attack based on the September 11 model to avenge bin Laden’s assassination.

Such “boomerang effects” occur when terrorist organizations become motivated to take revenge in response to counter-terrorism activities or the targeted killing of a leader. In this case, the motivation of al- Qaida’s core group to carry out a mega-terrorist attack is at its peak. It is assumed that leaders of the organization, and possibly bin Laden himself, had prepared contingency plans to avenge their deaths if

and when they were eliminated.

But whether al-Qaida has the operational capability required to carry out such an attack is questionable.

If we judge by the gap between the threats made by bin Laden and Zawahiri and their inability to perpetrate them in recent years, it is possible that despite its high motivation, al- Qaida will face difficulty carrying out attacks.

Another question is whether bin Laden’s assassination highlights the Obama administration’s successful counter-terrorism strategy.

There can be no doubt that the elimination in Pakistan of al-Qaida’s leader reflects high US intelligence and operational capabilities.

Such operations require accurate, timely intelligence and close coordination between intelligence agencies and operations forces. For this alone, American security officials should be commended.

But it took the US 10 long years since September 11 to locate bin Laden and execute this successful operation. And the fact that bin Laden was probably in a suburb near Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, for a lengthy period and under the nose of US intelligence deployed in the country, indicates both the limits of US intelligence and Pakistan’s dual policy of dealing with terrorism.

It is plausible to believe that if Pakistan was a true US ally and had made every effort to help locate bin Laden, this operation would not have taken place only now.

President Obama is trying to paint this operational success as proof of his administration’s counterterrorism policy. This policy is justified, according to the White House’s advisor on terrorism. He claimed the US is not fighting Islamists and jihadists, but rather al-Qaida terrorists.

But while this policy could possibly “crush the serpent’s head,” it will not kill its body.

The body will simply grow new heads and continue to multiply.

As Obama correctly insists, America and the West are not at war with Islam, but they must recognize that they are engaged in a long and exhausting battle against a broad group of organizations, political movements, radical activists and sympathizers who seek the establishment of an Islamist caliphate throughout the world, and who are not shy about engaging in violence and terror to achieve these goals. Ultimately, the outcome of this war of attrition remains uncertain.
