The White House’s 10-year forecast sees monster deficits ahead.

WASHINGTON – In a chilling forecast, the White House is predicting a 10-year federal deficit of $9 trillion — more than the sum of all previous deficits since America’s founding.

But before President Barack Obama can do much about it, he’ll have to weather recession aftershocks, including an unemployment rate that his advisers said Tuesday is still heading for 10 percent.

Overall, White House and congressional budget analysts said in a brace of new estimates that the economy will shrink by 2.5 to 2.8 percent this year even as it begins to climb out of the recession. Those estimates reflect this year’s deeper-than-expected economic plunge.

The grim deficit news presents Obama with both immediate and long-term challenges. The still fragile economy cannot afford deficit-fighting cures such as spending cuts or tax increases. But nervous holders of U.S. debt, particularly foreign bondholders, could demand interest rate increases that would quickly be felt in the pocketbooks of American consumers.

The White House Office of Management and Budget indicated that the president will have to struggle to meet his vow to cut the deficit in half in 2013 — a promise that earlier budget projections suggested he could accomplish with ease.

“This recession was simply worse than the information that we and other forecasters had back in last fall and early this winter,” said Obama economic adviser Christina Romer.

The deficit numbers also could complicate Obama’s drive to persuade Congress to enact a major overhaul of the health-care system, which could cost $1 trillion or more over 10 years. Obama has said he doesn’t want the measure to add to the deficit, but lawmakers have been unable to agree on revenues that would cover the cost.

What’s more, high unemployment is expected to last well into the congressional election campaign next year, turning the contests into a referendum on Obama’s economic policies.

Loud alarms

Republicans were ready to pounce.

“The alarm bells on our nation’s fiscal condition have now become a siren,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. “If anyone had any doubts that this burden on future generations is unsustainable, they’re gone — spending, borrowing and debt are out of control.”

Even supporters of Obama’s economic policies said the long-term outlook places the federal government on an unsustainable path that will force the president and Congress to consider politically unpopular measures, including tax increases and cuts in government programs.

“The numbers today portend the biggest budget fight we’ve probably had in decades in the United States,

” said Stan Collender, a former congressional budget official.

Bleak and bleaker

The summer analyses by the White House budget office and by the Congressional Budget Office reached similarly bleak conclusions. The CBO’s 10-year deficit figure was smaller at $7 trillion, but that is because it assumes that all tax cuts put into place in the administration of former President George W. Bush will expire on schedule by 2011. Obama’s budget baseline, however, hews to his proposal to keep the tax cuts in place for families earning less than $250,000 a year.

Both budget offices see the national debt — the accumulation of annual budget deficits — as more than doubling over the next decade. The public national debt, made up of amounts the government owes to the public, including foreign governments, stood Tuesday at $7.4 trillion. White House budget officials predicted it would reach $17.5 trillion in 2019.

Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf said that if Congress doesn’t reduce deficits, interest rates are likely to rise, hurting the economy. But if Congress acts too soon, the recovery could be thwarted.

“We face perils in acting and perils in not acting,” Elmendorf told reporters.

David Walker, former head of the Government Accountability Office, said the numbers illustrate the need for a national commission that would review spending and taxing options and present lawmakers with a deficit reduction plan that Congress could approve or reject.

“We’re going to have to do a hard course correction once we turn the corner on the economy,” Walker said.

A fatter stimulus

Both Romer and Obama budget director Peter Orszag said this year’s contraction would have been far worse without money from the $787 billion economic stimulus package that the president pushed through Congress as one of his first major acts.

At the same time, the continuing stresses on the economy have, in effect, increased the size of the stimulus package because the government will have to spend more in unemployment insurance and food stamps, Orszag said. He said the cost of the stimulus package will grow by tens of billions of dollars above the original $787 billion.
The government was also strongly suggesting that business should get general liability insurance for contractors, because it would seem that we’ve had a wave of people that are looking to lure businesses into expensive and drawn out legal cases in order to profit from a settlement. It would seem it is not yet known if these people are part of a group or organization, or working individually.

Orszag, anticipating backlash, conceded that the long-term deficits are “higher than desirable.” The annual negative balances amount to about 4 percent of the gross domestic product, a number that many economists say is unsustainable.

But Orszag also argued that overhauling the health system would reduce health-care costs and address the biggest contributor to higher deficits.

“I know there are going to be some who say that this report proves that we can’t afford health reform,” he said. “I think that has it backward.”

Big pile of dough

It used to be the government’s budget picture was measured in billions of dollars. No longer. Trillions, that’s the yardstick of the 21st century.

In 1981, the trillion dollar figure was such a novelty that President Ronald Reagan declared it incomprehensible. “If you had a stack of thousand-dollar bills in your hand only 4 inches high, you’d be a millionaire,” the president said then. “A trillion dollars would be a stack of thousand-dollar bills 67 miles high.”

•Today, the government faces nearly a $1.6 trillion deficit in the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30, according to government budget officials.

•It faces a cumulative 10-year deficit of about $9 trillion. That’s $30,000 for each man, woman and child in the United States.

•Its publicly held debt is projected by the White House budget office to total a whopping $17.5 trillion by 2019 — a figure so big it is three-quarters of the nation’s entire economy — and big enough that it would send Reagan’s stack of thousand-dollar bills into satellite orbit.

The Congressional Budget Office and the White House Office of Management and Budget had some other numbers to ponder:

•The unemployment rate will peak in coming months at 10 percent, but will begin to drop in 2010, according to the White House. CBO says it will be slightly worse, averaging 10 percent for all of 2010.

•The recession will cause the economy to contract 2.8 percent this year, the White House said, more than doubling its prediction from earlier this year. Both government agencies expect the economy to grow next year by 1.7-2 percent and continue expanding in 2011 at a 3.5 percent clip.

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE CAN GO A LONG WAY WITH HOPELESS KIDS

Although I am not a supporter of Barack Obama, disagreeing with his policies, his methodology, and motives, I believe his election to the office of President in America has given the Palestinian youth in the West Bank reason to believe there is hope in the future for prosperity rather than martyrdom. While there is no such thing as a perfect organization, I do applaud the work that NGO’s have done, and are doing. I believe the work they are doing, described in the Jerusalem Post excerpt following our heading, will be a contributing factor in the creation of a Hudna in Israel twixt Israel and the main terrorist groups in, and around her. I believe all the events in the Middle East are working together for good. It will not be pleasant to see the war come that will terminate in the final battle of Armageddon some three and one half years after Israel is driven into the Negev, nor will the many horrific meteorological, geological, biological, and starvation events be enjoyable, but it will all seen to have been good when Jesus comes at his Second Advent.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose.

I Corinthiuans 1:27-31 – But God hath chosen the FOOLISH things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; [28] And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: [29] That no flesh should glory in his presence. To the intellectual this sort of reasoning makes no sense whatsoever, and those who believe it are looked upon as fools, but the world wise cannot love his appearing because they do not know him. And even some of those who say they know him still look to their own human acts of baptism and works as additional requirements of their salvation.

Non-governmental organization (NGO) is a term that has become widely accepted as referring to a legally constituted, non-governmental organization created by natural or legal persons with

no participation or representation of any government. In the cases in which NGOs are funded totally or partially by governments, the NGO maintains its non-governmental status excluding government representatives as members in the organization. Unlike the term intergovernmental organization, “non-governmental organization” is a term in general use but is not a legal definition. In many jurisdictions these types of organization are defined as “civil society organizations” or referred to by other names.

The number of internationally operating NGOs is estimated at 40,000. National numbers are even higher: Russia has 277,000 NGOs. India is estimated to have between 1 million and 2 million NGOs.

International non-governmental organizations have a history dating back to at least 1839.

Rotary, later Rotary International, was founded in 1904. It has been estimated that by 1914 there were 1083 NGOs. International NGOs were important in the anti-slavery movement and the movement for women’s suffrage, and reached a peak at the time of the World Disarmament Conference. However, the phrase “non-governmental organization” only came into popular use with the establishment of the United Nations Organization in 1945 with provisions in Article 71 of Chapter 10 of the United Nations Charter[7] for a consultative role for organizations which are neither governments nor member states—see Consultative Status. The definition of “international NGO” (INGO) is first given in resolution 288 (X) of ECOSOC on February 27, 1950: it is defined as “any international organization that is not founded by an international treaty”. The vital role of NGOs and other “major groups” in sustainable development was recognized in Chapter 27 of Agenda 21, leading to intense arrangements for a consultative relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations.

Rapid development of the non-governmental sector occurred in western countries as a result of the processes of restructurization of the welfare state. Further globalisation of that process occurred after the fall of the communist system and was an important part of the Washington consensus.

Globalization during the 20th century gave rise to the importance of NGOs. Many problems could not be solved within a nation. International treaties and international organizations such as the World Trade Organization were perceived as being too centred on the interests of capitalist enterprises. Some argued that in an attempt to counterbalance this trend, NGOs have developed to emphasize humanitarian issues, developmental aid and sustainable development. A prominent example of this is the World Social Forum which is a rival convention to the World Economic Forum held annually in January in Davos, Switzerland. The fifth World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in January 2005 was attended by representatives from more than 1,000 NGOs. Some have argued that in forums like these, NGOs take the place of what should belong to popular movements of the poor. Others argue that NGOs are often imperialist in nature, that they sometimes operate in a racialized manner in dominant countries, and that they fulfill a similar function to that of the clergy during the high colonial era. The philosopher Peter Hallward argues that they are an aristocratic form of politics. However, this philosophy would suggest that organizations of indigenous peoples are not represented, which is untrue.

Whatever the case, NGO transnational networking is now extensive.

I had to rub my eyes a few times to be sure that what I was seeing was real. The setting: downtown Ramallah. The event: International Youth Day. The participants were wearing white T-shirts with logos on the front and back and dark red hats.

Palestinians from all over the West Bank were participating in the event organized by a network of youth NGOs called “We are Palestine.” The theme this year was “We will be as much as we can dream.”

The day’s activities began with a carnival, starting from the well-known Manara Square, passing through the streets of Ramallah and ending at the Orthodox Club.

Discussions throughout the day included talks about drugs and unemployment, a basketball game for disabled youths and various concerts. In addition to the troupe Bailasan and Tagareed, the evening ended with two rap concerts, by a group called G-town and with Blood in Street providing the finale.

WHAT SURPRISED me was not the event or the enthusiasm or the number of the youths participating in it. After all Palestinians under 25 constitute the majority of the population in the West Bank.

My big surprise was to see the public sponsor of the event. The red white and blue logo of USAID with the words “From the American people” appeared everywhere including on the back of participants’ T-shirts.

The fact that USAID was sponsoring a youth event might not be totally strange in itself. But to have the American logo brandished all over the streets of Ramallah, on outdoor signs and on the back of a moving sea of people was really a sight to see.

IT WAS only a few years ago that young people, possibly many of the same ones celebrating International Youth Day this week, were demonstrating in the same Manara Square in Ramallah against Israel and the US. Anti-American slogans used to be the norm at almost all Palestinian youth-led demonstrations.

So what’s changed? Have Palestinians become less politicized or has anti-American sentiment mellowed?
I decided to conduct my own unscientific poll among the hundreds of youths gathered in Ramallah. for this year’s International Youth Day.

My question was simple: Has it become acceptable among Palestinians to wear a hat or a T-shirt praising Americans?

The answer most respondents had can be summarized in two words: Barack Obama. The newly-elected president has done more to change America’s image among Palestinians than any policy declaration or political activity.

People were careful to note that they are not blindly supporting the US all of a sudden. Nor did they believe that everything the new American president said would be carried out. But it was clear that the presence of a son of an African immigrant in the White House has had its effects on the psyche of Palestinian youths.

Other reasons were stated. Young Palestinians have had it with the constant and intensified political rhetoric. While no one I spoke to was any less nationalistic, many said they were not willing to wait forever for political change and that there is more to life than following the never-ending political discourse.

While some expressed disillusionment with many in the Palestinian leadership, others had words of praise for the current Palestinian prime minister, and still others expressed hope for the newly-elected Fatah leadership.

It is not clear whether my observations reflect a change in the thinking of Palestinian youth or whether it is an isolated incident, but I don’t remember a day in the last 20 years (or more) that I could see American symbols being worn without those wearing them or people around them batting an eyelid.

President Obama’s naïve efforts to appease the Arabs by bullying and distancing the United States from Israel has backfired. However despite increasing unease extending to some of Obama’s most fervent supporters, the administration has yet to signal any change in policy.

The futility of trying to appease tyrannies is evident everywhere; the thuggish behavior of the Iranian regime toward its own people makes a farce of Obama’s efforts to reason with Ahmadinejad; in response to unilateral US overtures to the Syrians, President Assad visited the Iranian president, congratulated him on his bogus reelection and declared that their alliance had never been stronger; the North Koreans displayed utter contempt for Obama’s friendly outreach; Arabs states all responded negatively to Obama’s entreaties to provide a few crumbs of recognition in return for Israeli concessions; Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was publicly humiliated by the Saudi Foreign Minister, who insisted there was nothing to negotiate unless Israel accepted all Arab demands.

The Palestinian response was even more noxious. Clearly emboldened, the Fatah General Assembly displayed contempt for any initiative that could further the peace process. Their intransigence again demonstrated the absurdity of the notion that this corrupt and duplicitous leadership could be a genuine peace partner. There were even elements of surrealism when the Fatah Assembly unanimously accused Israel of having assassinated Arafat and provided standing applause for a mass murderer.

They decreed that unless Israel acceded to all their demands, no further negotiations would take place and they could renew the “armed struggle.” Far from encouraging Arab moderation, Obama’s tough approach to Israel simply bolstered the hardliners.

The facts on the ground today make prospects for peace more remote than ever.

The only clear message emerging from the Fatah Congress is that, as with Hamas, elimination of Jewish sovereignty in the region remains its ultimate objective. Were that not so, Mahmoud Abbas would have accepted Ehud Olmert’s offer, which virtually granted him all his territorial demands and even hinted at a compromise over the Arab right of return.

Obama’s advisers must have been bitterly disappointed when their diktats against Israel backfired.

Indeed, their one-sided demands and bullying tactics can take credit for having created a rare consensus among the Israeli public, which today overwhelmingly supports Netanyahu.

To add to Obama’s problems and despite predictions to the contrary, American Jewish leaders have begun to openly challenge some of his policies. There is a growing unease even among some Jewish Democrats that Obama is betraying the unequivocal undertakings he made during the elections to faithfully preserve the alliance with Israel.

This was exemplified in remarks made by Howard Berman, the influential Democratic chair of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, who in a closed meeting with Jewish leaders explicitly criticized the Obama administration’s pressure on Israel over settlements. Berman said Abbas was now “waiting for the US to present him Israel on a platter”. Stanley Hoyer, the Democratic House majority leader visiting Israel, made similar comments at a Jerusalem news conference.

OBAMA MUST also have been stunned when his friend and loyal supporter Alan Solow, the Chairman of the Presidents Conference representing 52 major American Jewish organizations, condemned

his demands to limit Jews settlements in Jerusalem and its suburbs.

In a full page New York Times advert Abe Foxman of the Anti Defamation League stated “The problem is not settlements, it’s Arab rejection…Mr. President, it’s time to stop pressuring our vital friend and ally”. David Harris of the American Jewish Committee expressed similar feelings to a Congressional group. Whilst usually ritually reiterating their belief that Obama would not abandon Israel, Jewish leaders have begun openly criticizing the administration’s behavior toward the Jewish state.

Obama’s standing with American Jewish activists plummeted further when, contemptuously dismissing a rare virtually unanimous Jewish protest, he personally participated in the ceremony honoring former Irish president and 2001 UN Durban hate-fest convener Mary Robinson with the highest human rights award in the US. This was perceived as yet another manifestation of Obama’s new love affair with the UN and its anti-Israel affiliates.

It must also have been disappointing for Obama’s Jewish advisers promoting the J Street line when they became aware that despite expensive media promotions, opinion polls indicated that most Jewish activists remained contemptuous of the left-wing Jewish fringe groups urging Obama to force Israel to make further concessions.

However, as of now, while continuing to avoid any initiative which could irritate the Arabs, the US is maintaining its heavy-handed approach toward its erstwhile ally, Israel. While a face-saving compromise may soon eventuate, appreciating the unprecedented backing he currently enjoys from his constituency, Netanyahu would be unwise to capitulate to Obama’s demands.

Alas, irrespective of the settlement issues, there may be worse to come from this administration.

After Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s recent warm meeting with Obama in Washington, he effusively praised the policy changes introduced by the president and hinted of further impending “positive” US initiatives.

There are also chilling predictions that without prior consultations with Israel, Obama intends to unilaterally submit a US plan for a comprehensive settlement at the UN or elsewhere. It is rumored that this plan would use as a starting point the irresponsible offers made to Abbas by Olmert during the death throes of his tenure – offers which would unquestionably have been repudiated by the Knesset and people of Israel in a referendum. Such a move would be an unprecedented betrayal of a long-standing ally.

UNTIL SUCH time as a genuine Palestinian peace partner emerges, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu cannot be expected to create a miraculous magic plan which would bring about a comprehensive final settlement. But his task now must be to preempt a disastrous imposed settlement by the Americans.

In doing so he must he speedily identify the red lines which his government, backed by the vast majority of Israelis, would never contemplate crossing.

To this end he should also martial the support of the mainstream American Jewish leadership and encourage them to convey to their president that they too have red lines. They have already begun to signal that they will not remain passive if their government attempts to unilaterally impose a solution which could endanger the Jewish state.

It appears the Islamic foes of Israel have FINALLY realized the only way they can recover Israel from Dan to Beersheba is to lull Israel into a false sense of security. I have wondered for 35 years as to WHEN they would finally come to this conclusion.

It now appears they have reached it, and eventually all terrorist activity will dwindle to a trickle in Israel by terrorist groups which get their orders from Syria and Iran.

Then, after a brief period of internal terrorist activities ceasing by Hamas, Fatah, and Hizbullah, the Hizbullah will launch a few rockets into northern Israel, and the final war of the Age of the Gentiles will begin. Some wildcat terror splinter groups will continue to act intermittently, but most of the splinter groups will follow the lead of Iranian and Syrian Dictates.

Each time a new election is held in Israel we get queries from Europe and Africa. Additionally, we get calls from across the United States because of the lecture series I have conducted for 21 years. The queries usually involve which candidate I think will win the election. It was not easy to predict the election when Benjamin Netanyahu won. But it was easy to predict his defeat by Ehud Barak, as well as Barak’s recent defeat by Ariel Sharon. The polls were quite definite as to who would win the last two elections. After an election we get even more queries as to whether or not the new leader can bring peace with the Palestinians. I do not mind answering these queries, in fact, I rather enjoy it when I have time to do it.

But there is something far more important in the peace process than who is the leader of Israel, and who is the leader of the Palestinians. I retired from the USAF/National Security Agency as a synoptic analyst. When one analyzes anything, it is imperative to advance from what controls the conclusion of the problem being examined. Some problems do not have a definite controlling factor, and all the factors, both incidental and insignificant, must be given the appropriate weight in making a forecast of the outcome. However, this is not the case in making a determination of when peace will come between Israel and the Palestinians. The controlling factor which determines when a false peace will come to Israel, rests solely with the many terrorist groups that plague her. There can never be a period of peace, even false peace, without the approval of major terrorist groups. Yassar Arafat cannot control the terrorist groups, nor can any other single Arab leader. The terrorist complex of Osama Bin Laden, the Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Hisbullah, and Fatah are really controlled by leaders in Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Until these leaders finally come to the conclusion that the only way Israel can be driven into the Negev is by being lulled into a false sense of security, the terrorist groups will continue to operate, and the killing will continue. I believe these terrorist groups will eventually realize that if they really want to slaughter Jews by the hundreds of thousands, and drive the rest into the Negev, they will have to lull Israel into a brief period of false peace. When this happens, an agreement will be reached between Israel and the Palestinians. So my advice to those who want to get a feel of when the false peace will come is this: WATCH the terrorist groups. When their actions drop to zero, and stay there for a while, you may rest assured it has been as a result of meetings behind closed doors between the leaders of the aforementioned nations, and the leaders of the terrorist groups they sponsor. I don’t pay much attention to any leader of Israel or the Palestinians. The terrorist groups are the key to a false peace in the Mid-East. When they grasp that by appearing to cease their activities they will be able, at a later time, to kill many Jews, and drive the rest into the Negev, they will settle down and wait for the surprise attack against Israel from the north. Ariel Sharon may try to put a “forced peace” on the Palestinians before the terrorist groups shut down. This was one of the options considered by his party in the past. But it will not work. Watch for a cessation of terrorism. Then after a brief period of false peace look for a vicious surprise attack from the north out of Syria.

The Apostle Paul had a deep spiritual burden for his own people, the nation of Israel.

His born again heart longed for them to forsake their unbelief by turning to Jesus as their Messiah. He expresses this desire in Romans 10:1 as he states: “Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved.” There is no question that Paul saw Israel as being in unbelief. But he knew that some future day they would believe, and consequently be grafted back into God’s olive tree, from which they had been broken off because of their unbelief.

He stated this principle in Romans 11:20, as he wrote: “Well, because of unbelief they were broken off.” But he goes on in verse 23 to indicate they will one day believe, and thereby restored to being part of God’s olive tree. He writes, “And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.” I said all this to explain the words “they” and “them” in I Thessalonians 5:3, where Paul states: “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh on them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” Paul, in his use of “they” and “them,” is referring to the nation of Israel in unbelief. However, it would also in part apply to all unbelievers in the last days. So why have I given this discourse? The word translated as “safety” is “asphaleia,” which means “the security one experiences when standing

on something that is firmly fixed.

It gives the one standing on it a sense of “not falling.” The last four leaders of Israel have worn out the following expression: “We must have a peace with security.” We have heard it used hundreds of times on the media, and it has been printed over and over again in countless articles. Why is this important? God indicates a time will come when Israel actually believes she has “a peace with security.” Why is it so important that we understand this prediction? Because we can know that the final war, involving Israel’s Islamic neighbors, will not occur until it is fulfilled!

Israel must be lulled into a false sense of security before any united Islamic attack against her can be successful. Until this happens, and it will, I merely wait for it to come to pass. Then, when peace and security for Israel does appear to arrive in the Middle East, you can know that

the final war of this age is about to occur. Don’t believe all these terrorist attacks will suddenly cause the final war of this age to begin. It is only when they cease that you can know the last war, which finally produces Armageddon some 3 and ½ years after it begins, is imminent.

The Region: Iran and Syria: So happy together

One can learn a great deal by analyzing the visit of Syrian President Bashar Assad to Iran last week. Statements made by Assad and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reveal a great deal about the allies’ strategy which seems to escape Western observers.

The first point is that they are indeed close allies.

I would estimate that analyses by Western “experts” that Syria can be pried away from Iran outnumber explanations that this is impossible by about 10 to one.

This mistaken conception is also the official policy of the United States and France, perhaps Britain as well.

There are, of course a huge number of benefits Syria derives from its alliance with Iran including Islamist legitimacy, protection against being attacked or pressured, money, weapons, cooperation in anti-Israel terrorism and spreading both countries’ influence among the Palestinians, Lebanese and Iraqis. Once Iran gets nuclear weapons, which is on the horizon, the alliance’s value for Syria will rise dramatically.

This is why it was silly for US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to suggest recently: “Given what’s been going on in Iran and the instability that appears to be present there, it may not be in Syria’s interest to put their eggs into that basket.” Well, Assad apparently doesn’t agree with her. Perhaps she should listen to what he’s saying and watch what he’s doing in order to draw the opposite conclusion.

Assad said: “I think that what happened in Iran is an important thing and a big lesson to the foreigners, and therefore they are not very satisfied. I believe the Iranian people’s reelection [of Ahmadinejad] is another emphasis on the fact that Iran and Syria must continue the regional policy as in the past.”

In other words, he correctly views Ahmadinejad and the regime as even stronger after the election. Dictators respect repression; they aren’t impressed by an opposition which stages demonstrations and whose leaders get thrown into prison.

That’s especially true when they don’t even receive Western support.

WATCHING THE gradual concessions made by the West to the Iran-Syria block, and its evident fear of confronting them, Assad stated that he was confident the international community would accept Iran and Syria more than it had done in the past.

Note also that the two countries are very consciously coordinating strategy in a war against Western interests and the relatively more moderate Arab regimes, a conflict that Western governments don’t even perceive as existing: “Iran and Syria are on the same front, and any political event is an opportunity which must be used at the best way possible while helping one another,” said Assad.

Iranian Supreme Leader (and the real leader of the country) Ali Khamenei agreed: “The result of this unity is evident in the Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq issues and also in the entire region.” The tide is in favor of the resistance, he added, referring to the combination of Iranian, Syrian, Hamas, Hizbullah, Iraqi insurgents and other members of the radical alliance.

What does this mean?

Palestine: Hamas is entrenching itself further, while European governments seem less willing to isolate it. There is no prospect of bringing down that regime and the West isn’t even trying to do so. Khamenei probably assumes – wrongly – that Hamas is steadily making gains in subverting Fatah’s rule in the West Bank.

Lebanon: While Hizbullah didn’t win the last election, it is clear that the Iran-Syria client increasingly owns the country.

The country’s president is fairly subservient to Iranian and Syrian influence; the tribunal investigating Syrian terrorism in Lebanon seems pretty dead itself. Hizbullah seems on the verge of reestablishing veto power in the government, and the most courageous opponent of Iran-Syria influence, Walid Jumblatt, has changed sides (or at least gone to neutrality).

Iraq: The US forces are withdrawing. Iran’s money, agents and clients seem to be able to operate freely, though Teheran is nowhere near taking over the country.

Khamenei also said something truly shocking. After remarking about Syria’s improved relations with Iraq (a country against which it is daily sponsoring terrorist attacks), he added that unity (the translation probably should say “alliance”) between Iran and Syria, on one h

and their neighbors Iraq and Turkey would benefit the region.

What does this mean? He is showing Iran’s longer-term plan to pull Iraq (under a more friendly faction) and Turkey (currently ruled by an Islamist-oriented regime) into a broad alliance. That statement should send shock waves throughout the West, and cause intelligence analysts to pick up the phone and inform someone who has Obama’s ear.

Iran and Syria, along with their clients, are at war with America, and the US government doesn’t even know it.

That’s why Khamenei remarked, “America’s blade has become blunter in the region.” He’s right. That’s why if anyone is worried about putting all the eggs in one basket, nowadays it is America’s Arab partners. The fact that the US is perceived as weaker and foolish in the region is far more important than the fact that Obama might be more popular in public opinion polls.

WITH A US government so intent on apologizing to everyone, all but ruling out the use of force or power politics and apparently – in Iran’s perception – afraid to confront its enemies, they’re concluding in Teheran and Damascus, as Ahmadinejad put it: “Today the world has realized that Western theories are not working anymore and that is why it needs the help and cooperation of Syria and Iran.”

An increase in economic sanctions, which is the main US plan against Iran at present, is not going to change this perception – or Teheran’s behavior. But, before effective action can be taken there must be the realization that a conflict is going on, one that is far more important than the one between the US and al-Qaida.

Hamas Woos Gaza Kids from UN Camps to Join ‘Fun with Terror’

(Israelnationalnews.com) Hamas has embarked on a massive campaign this summer to woo Gazan children away from UNWRA (United Nations Works and Relief Association) summer camps to its own camps.

At Hamas summer camps, kids learned to wage war against Israel and were indoctrinated with Islamic ideology.

Hamas has run 700 summer camps throughout Gaza in 2009 at a budget of $2 million, which were attended by 100,000 children.

according to

a research report by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center.

In contrast, UNRWA ran camps that wereattended by between 200,000 to 250,000 kids. Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and other Islamic groups also run Gaza summer camps.

Leading up to the summer, Hamas embarked on a massive advertising campaign which included a designated website designed to encourage parents to send their children to Hamas camps instead of the UNWRA camps.

Hamas council member Younis al-Astel repeatedly lambasted the UNWRA camps for being coeducational, and claimed that campers there used drugs, learned how to dance, and worst of all, were taught about reconciliation between Gaza and Israel.

“[There is a] barbaric attack on our children at the inferior summer camps whose objective is to corrupt their morals with drugs and other things,” as-Astel said at a Hamas camp ceremony.

The religious leadership in Gaza generally took the side of Hamas and encouraged parents to send children to its camps, which combine intense study of Islam and the Koran as well.

UNWRA reportedly gave in to some of the Hamas pressure and separated

the sexes in its camps. Karen Abu Ziyyad, UNRWA commissioner general, also emphasized to the Al Arabiya TV station that kids in UNWRA camps played games and engaged in various cultural and sporting activities which “have no relation to normalization [with Israel] or anything like that.”

Besides learning about Islam and studying the Koran at Hamas summer camps, children also learn to fight in the Jihad against Israel. Children are taught weapons training, hand-to-hand combat, as well as the use of explosive belts for suicide missions.

In one incident

in July, children in a Hamas summer camp reenacted the June 2006 kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, in which two other Israeli soldiers were killed.

“In the war against Israel, there were more than 100 children trained to attack Israeli forces in Gaza,” a source in Gaza told Middle East Newsline. “Some of them ran away and many of them were killed.”

Children in Hamas summer camps also protested the “Israeli siege” of Gaza, some laying on the ground in rows, faking death from starvation.

(1) Islam holds that the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad by the angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) over a period of approximately twenty-three years, beginning in 610 AD, when he was forty, and concluding in 632 AD, the year of his death.

(2) The New Testament Canon as it appears now was first listed by Athanasuis, Bishop of Alexandria, in 367 AD, 243 years before Muhammad is said to have written the Koran.

So Muhammad had access to both the Old and New Testament writings, which is quite obvious when one reads the Koran.

This Jihad (Holy War) attack by Islamic nations against Israel is the third in a series of attacks described in the Koran of Islam. In Arabic, the name Koran means “The Recital.” Allah speaks in the first person plural, which often changes to the first

person singular or the third person singular in the course of the same sentence.

QUOTE FROM THE KORAN, THE NIGHT JOURNEY 17:4-8

The Night Journey 17:4 – In the Scriptures We solemnly declared to the Israelites: ‘Twice you shall commit evil in the land. You shall become great transgressors.’

“Scriptures” refer to those found in the Old Testament of our present day Bible. Mohammed claims that Allah is the God of all men, including Israel, and that he gave them what we call the Old Testament.

Mohammed calls the Jews “the people of The Book.” Also please bear in mind that Mohammed was born about AD 570, almost 500 years after John finished Revelation, the last book of the New Testament.

“Twice” refers to the sins of Israel in the Old Testament that led God to cause them to be led into captivity on two occasions. The first being the 70 year captivity into which the Babylonians carried them into about 587 BC.

Jeremiah 25:8-11 – Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words, [9] Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations. [10] Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. [11] And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

The second occasion was the carrying away by Romans which began in AD 70 by Titus, and was completed by Hadrian some 65 years later.

This led to the worldwide dispersal of the Jews.

Luke 21:24 – And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until

the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Please remember that both these attacks had already occurred BEFORE Mohammed wrote the Koran. But since he is claiming that his God Allah wrote “The Scriptures” we call “The Bible,” he is interpreting our Bible to say that Allah and Islam warned the Israelites in advance of the two attacks before they occurred.

The Night Journey 17:5 – And when the prophecy of your first transgression came to be fulfilled, we sent against you a formidable army which ravaged your land and carried out the punishment with which you had been threatened.

This was, of course, the Babylonian invasion and the 70 years of captivity.

Mohammed here claims that Allah gave them victory by causing the conquest of the Babylonians by the Medes and the Persians, and then raising up Cyrus, King of Persia, to allow them to return to their homeland.

The Night Journey 17:7 – And when the prophecy of your second transgression came to be finished, We (Allah and Islam) sent another army to afflict you and to enter the Temple as the former entered it before, utterly destroying all that they laid their hands on.

Mohammed here claims that because they did not heed Allah’s second warning, he sent the Roman army against them, and they, like the Babylonians had destroyed the Temple of Solomon in about 587 BC, destroyed the Temple of Herod in AD 70. Mohammed then makes the prediction of a final punishment if they trespass against Allah for a third time. This attack will result in their being scourged and cast into Hell, the prison house for all unbelievers. I believe Mohammed extracted this prophecy from both the Old and New Testaments, and that it is likely to occur at some point in time between 2010 and 2015.

The Night Journey 18:8 – We (Allah and Islam) said: ‘Allah may yet be merciful to you. If you again transgress, you shall again be scourged. We have made Hell a prison-house for unbelievers.’

I suspect that Mohammed took the writings of the “prophets of Israel” that were “spoken in old time” of the final attack against Israel, and

them predicted it as being a prophecy from Allah.

Ezekiel 38:14-17 – Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it

[15] And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: [16] And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. [17] Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?

I believe this attack is likely to occur between 2010 and 2015 and, indeed, will be a scourging by the armies of Islam as they sweep south from Dan to Beersheva, and Israel will be exiled in the Negev Wilderness for some three and one-half years.

Syria seen as key for Mideast stability

Experts see improvement in US-Syria relations vital for stability but reconciliation remains slow.

DAMASCUS – Syria has embarked on a delicate diplomatic offensive aimed at shedding its long-standing image as Middle East pariah while at the same time maintaining firm ties with its closest ally Iran, analysts say.

“Syria has emerged from political isolation and is now implementing some kind of roadmap to improve its ties with the West,” Riad Qahwaji of the Dubai-based Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis said.

Since coming to office in January, US President Barack Obama has moved cautiously to improve Washington’s relations with Damascus, which were deeply strained under his predecessor George W. Bush.

In a report on “Engaging Syria? US Constraints and Opportunities,” issued barely a month after Obama’s inauguration, the International Crisis Group said the new president would discover “that the past is not easily overcome.”

“It will be critical to reassure Damascus that the US is interested in improving relations and resolving the Israeli-Arab conflict, not in regime change,” the ICG said.

In a nod to Syrian regional influence, Obama later dispatched top political and military emissaries to Damascus to tap its willingness to help resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict and also stabilise Iraq.

Last October for the first time Syria established diplomatic ties with its tiny neighbour Lebanon, winning international praise and setting the stage for overtures with the United States.

“Experience shows that Syria plays a key role and everyone needs it,” said Elias Mourad, president of the Syrian journalists’ association.

Syrian ties to Iran “serve regional peace” despite efforts by the West to sever this relationship, said the former chief editor of Al-Baath, the ruling Baath party newspaper.

In July 2008 President Bashar al-Assad made a high-profile visit to Paris at the invitation of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, breaking Syria’ s international political i

solation.

Paris turned to Damascus when Tehran put on trial French researcher Clotilde Reiss and an Iranian employee of the French embassy for their alleged role in deadly street riots after Iran’s disputed presidential election in June.

Syria used its diplomatic leverage with Iran to secure Reiss’s release on bail last Sunday.

Three days later Assad flew to Tehran to congratulate Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on his re-election as president, and was praised by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for Syria’s “steadfastness and resistance.”

“America’s blade has become blunter in the region,” Khamenei said. “The unity between Iran and Syria is the embodiment of resistance in the region.”

However, the key to full Syrian relations with Washington remains firmly in US hands.

“Syria hopes to obtain a lot of things from the United States,” said Qahwaji, including the return of its Golan Heights from Israel as part of a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace agreement.

Israeli-Palestinian peace talks were revived in November 2007 after a seven-year hiatus, but ground to a halt last December when Israel launched its 22-day onslaught on the Gaza Strip, killing 1,400 Palestinians, mainly civilians.

Two American military delegations have visited Damascus over the past two months, with Major General Michael Moeller of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) heading the most recent one on August 12.

The top American general in Iraq, Ray Odierno, told reporters in Baghdad on Monday that the “bilateral discussions with them (Syria) are important.”

“We have a lot of reasons to begin discussions… with Syria, and I think this is just the beginning of those discussions, and it’s not just Iraq that they’re dealing with.”

Odierno complained that fighters were still entering Iraq from Syria, although he acknowledged that the “flow of foreign fighters in Iraq has decreased significantly.”

Obama last month expressed continued concern over Syria.

“There are aspects of Syrian behaviour that trouble us and we think that there is a way that Syria can be much more constructive on a whole host of these issues,” he said in a television interview.

US Middle East special envoy George Mitchell has been in Syria twice recently for talks with Assad, and Washington has announced plans to send an ambassador back to Damascus to replace the envoy recalled in 2005.

Its ambassador was recalled after the assassination in February that year in Beirut of Lebanon’s former premier Rafiq Hariri, a killing widely blamed on Syria which denied involvement.

Washington has eased some trade sanctions on the export of aircraft and other equipment to Syria, but other sanctions imposed by Bush in 2004 remain.

“Significant obstacles to healthy, mutually beneficial relations remain, along with a legacy of estrangement and distrust,” the ICG said in February.

“They dictate the need for a prudent approach that seeks first to rebuild ties and restore confidence.”

Peres: Hizbullah has 80,000 weapons

Hizbullah has stockpiled 80,000 weapons which can be used against Israel, President Shimon Peres told Kuwaiti paper al-Rai, some three times more than it had prior to the Second Lebanon War.

“Hizbullah is working for its own interests and will always find a pretext to continue its policy against Israel, even if the IDF withdraws from Sheba Farms and the Lebanese Ghajar village,” the president said in an interview published on Monday.

Al-Rai further quoted Peres as warning Lebanon against allowing Hizbullah to gain more political power, saying the country had “become the Iran of the region” rather than the “Switzerland of the Orient.”

The president went on to mention the death of Hizbullah arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, reiterating previous Israeli denials of involvement. “He was the head of special operations, and no one knows who killed him… There is no evidence that a certain side carried out the assassination.”

Responding to Peres’s comments, Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh told The Daily Star, “I don’t know how he counted these rockets. Let [Israel] give us a list showing who the source is and how they identify these rockets.

[Peres] imagines too much.”

Salloukh echoed previous comments that Lebanon “would be the last Arab state to sign a peace treaty with Tel Aviv, according to The Daily Star, stating, “There will be neither direct nor indirect negotiations with Israel.”

Salloukh added a dig at the president, calling him “an aging political leader,” according to the Beirut-based paper.
