Followers of Islam are indeed the children of this world, the children of darkness, and tares of the Devil. They are wiser in the ways of this world than the children of light, and are quite proficient in leading them down a garden path with quicksand at the end of it.

Luke 16:8 – And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

I Thessalonians 5:4,5 – But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. [5] Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

‘Iran to talk on past nuclear activity’

Iran’s top leaders have agreed to answer all remaining questions about their country’s nuclear past within four weeks after talks with the UN’ s chief nuclear in

spector, his spokeswoman said Sunday.

Melissa Fleming, spokeswoman for International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei, also said that ElBaradei was given new information on Iran’s “new generation of centrifuges.” That issue is a top priority for the agency as it tries to establish how far advanced Iran is in developing the technology, which could be used in a weapons program.

A diplomat familiar with the talks said that investigation now was focused on the most delicate aspects of the Teheran’s past atomic work, including programs linked to US suspicions Teheran had conducted experiments linked to nuclear arms.

The probe was originally slated to be completed in December, and the United States and its allies have been chafing at the delay, say diplomats accredited to the IAEA. But they are unlikely to object publicly if the extension allows ElBaradei to reveal details of such secret programs.

In Abu Dhabi on Sunday, US President George W. Bush said Teheran “defies the United Nations and destabilizes the region by refusing to be open and transparent about its nuclear programs and ambitions.” Calling Iran the “world’s leading state sponsor of terror,” he urged Arab nations to join with the US to confront the danger “before it’s too late.”

Fleming’s e-mailed comments were issued just a few hours after ElBaradei’s plane touched down in Vienna, ending a two-day visit to Teheran that included unprecedented meetings with both Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The diplomat said the talks went “very well,” adding that, beyond discussing the progress of his agency’s probe into Iran’s nuclear past, ElBaradei was able to press his case for the need for Teheran to suspend uranium enrichment, a key UN Security Council demand.

Separately, however, a senior diplomat expressed doubt ElBaradei was able to persuade the Iranians to freeze enrichment and noted Western efforts for additional UN sanctions against the Islamic republic would continue unless that condition was met. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly on the issue.

Fleming’s statement appeared to jibe with the first diplomat’s comments on enrichment, saying the Teheran talks included “the importance of the implementation of the Additional Protocol as well as on other confidence building measures called for by the Security Council.”

The Security Council has demanded Iran suspend enrichment, which can create both nuclear fuel and the fissile core of warheads, as a “confidence building measure.” It has additionally urged Teheran to restore broader inspection rights for the IAEA by reinstating the “Additional Protocol” granting agency experts such powers after suspending it more than a year ago.

Alluding to the IAEA probe of Teheran’s past nuclear activities launched last year, Fleming also said that the talks resulted in agreement that the “work plan should be completed in the next four weeks.”

Under the plan, Iran committed itself to answering all lingering questions about its past nuclear activities – including those it has evaded since 2003, when nearly 20 years of clandestine atomic work on the part of Teheran were revealed.

Publicly, the agency has been careful about the progress of its probe.

In an August report, ElBaradei said the agency felt that information provided by Iran on past small-scale plutonium experiments had “resolved” agency concerns about the issue. It has also confirmed that Teheran has given agency experts a copy of documents showing how to form uranium metal into the spherical shape of warheads.

But it specified that Iran still needed to answer the agency’s questions about the issues that are potentially more important in determining whether the country has or had a military program – among them, the “Green Salt” project, the history and present state of its enrichment technology and the origins of traces of highly enriched uranium at a facility linked to the military.

The first diplomat said those were among the issues now under discussion.

Shortly before ElBaradei’s trip, diplomats had told the AP that Teheran

had ended years of stonewalling and begun providing some information on the topics.

“Iran also provided information on its research and development activities on a new generation of centrifuges,” said Fleming’s statement.

While IAEA experts have access to Iran’s declared enrichment program using outmoded P-1 centrifuges, it has been kept in the dark about the existence of the state of the art p-2 machine.
Iranian officials confirmed the existence of a P-2 research program only last year. Up to November, diplomats told the AP that agency had recently been denied access to a workshop testing and developing the P-2.

The issue is important because large-scale use of P-2s would allow Iran to accelerate its enrichment program, which Teheran insists is only

Iran to settle atom inquiry issues within month – IAEA

Reuters

By Mark Heinrich

January 13, 2008

VIENNA (Reuters) – Iran agreed to answer remaining questions about past, secret nuclear work within a month at talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency chief, the U.N. watchdog said on Sunday.

In a statement issued after IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei’s return, the U.N. watchdog said Tehran gave him information about work to develop an advanced centrifuge able to enrich uranium much faster than the antiquated model it uses now.

ElBaradei met top Iranian leaders over two days last week to push for swifter cooperation to wrap up a longrunning IAEA inquiry into its nuclear history and shed light on its current programme, which the West suspects will yield atom bombs.

Iran denies the accusation.

ElBaradei is anxious to see a standoff between Iran and Western powers over its disputed nuclear ambitions settled peacefully, a concern underscored by a U.S.-Iranian naval incident in the Gulf a week ago which has fanned tensions.

Iran, after years of stonewalling that helped lead to U.N. sanctions, agreed in August to clarify questions about its nuclear past, a process called the “work plan”. But an end of year target set by ElBaradei passed with issues still open.

“Agreement was reached on the timeline for implementation of all the remaining verification issues specified in the work plan. According to the agreed schedule implementation … should be completed in the next four weeks,” the IAEA said.

A diplomat close to the IAEA said ahead of ElBaradei’s rare visit that the agency inquiry had entered a final phase with Iran addressing U.S. intelligence given to U.N. inspectors about past attempts to “weaponise” atomic material.

“Iran is prepared to remove all outstanding ambiguities by March,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini told a news conference in Tehran on Sunday.

That would be in time for ElBaradei’s next Iran report to the IAEA’s 35-nation board of governors, which meets on March 3-7.

CONCERN

Western diplomats had expressed concern that Iran would lose motivation to carry out the “work plan” after a U.S. intelligence report last month said Tehran had stopped an active nuclear weapons programme in 2003.

The report also said Iran was still striving to develop enrichment prowess that could be militarised in the future, but it has nevertheless undercut a U.S.-led push for harsher sanctions against Tehran.

ElBaradei also tried to impress on Iran the need to permit wider inspections under the IAEA’s Additional Protocol and take other measures demanded by the U.N. Security Council to prove the Islamic Republic’s repeated assertions that it is enriching uranium only for peaceful energy.

To that end, the statement said: “Iran also provided information on its research and development activities on a new generation of centrifuges.” These are being developed at workshops now off-limits to U.N. inspectors.

The ever increasing military Iranian buildup, assisted by the expertise of China, Russia, and North Korea in the fields of high tech weaponry and thermonuclear know-how, has created a Middle East situation of self preservation among the dictatorial Islamic rulers of the Middle East nations. They want to be on the winning side of a Middle East War, and are scared to death of Iran.

Consequently, efforts of being able to gain favor with Iran, while at the same time holding favor with America’s oil guzzling economic profits and military arsenal building supply system, are the order of the day.

So it is no surprise that Syria and Iran are sending out cooing love songs of the “Iranian Iron might” to the weaker Arab nations of clay, in the hope they will stick to Iran in the coming Middle East war.

JPost Staff and AP, THE JERUSALEM POST

January 17, 2007

Israel would not dare attack Iran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday.

“They don’t have the courage to attack Iran. The Iranian response would make them regret it and they know this very well,” Ahmadinejad said in an interview with Al-Jazeera.

Regarding Israel’s missile test from the Palmahim air force base earlier Thursday, Ahmadinejad said the countries in the region were not impressed by “this criminal entity that is trying to show off its weapons in a threatening way.”

Ahmadinejad went on to say that that US President George W. Bush sent a “message of confrontation” during his recent Mideast trip.

Olmert: Israel won’t tolerate continued Kassam rocket fire

JPost.com Staff, THE JERUSALEM POST

January 17, 2008

Israel will not tolerate the incessant Kassam rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and will act repeatedly against the Islamic Jihad, Hamas and all other Palestinian groups which continue to wage war on Israeli citizens, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed on Thursday.

“We are not looking to fight in the Gaza Strip, we do not want to harm its residents and we have no special desire to kill any citizen,” Olmert told the Israel Manufacturers’ Association in Tel Aviv. “But we will not, and we cannot continue to suffer this relentless Kassam rocket fire on citizens of the state of Israel that emanates from there.”

The prime minister went on to commend the latest string of IDF operations in the Gaza Strip, which has so far killed at least 20 Palestinian operatives, and said that such military activity will continue until rocket attacks stop.

“They absorbed a punch, and this punch is not the last one that they will absorb during this insufferable Kassam rocket fire on the southern Israel,” Olmert said, promising that the Jewish state “will continue to act, with wisdom and with ferociousness, with maximal precision in order to hit all those who want to harm us, and without hitting innocent citizens, that are becoming victims of extremism, brutality, hate and incitement.”

Nevertheless, Olmert emphasized that there are no easy solutions to rocket attacks.

Earlier Thursday, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni made similar comments during her visit to Moscow, saying that Israel would defend its citizens not only through negotiations, but also through “uncompromising war” against Palestinian terror from Gaza.

“Israeli is obligated to its citizens, and needs to give a response to the daily attacks coming from Gaza,” the foreign minister said, adding that “the answer to the Kassam rocket attacks is an uncompromising war on terror which originates from Gaza, and not only through dialogue and negotiations.”

“[Israel] must be clear: when speaking of a Palestinian state, we are talking about two parts – Gaza and the West Bank,” the foreign minister continued.

“The situation in Gaza must change,” she concluded.

Earlier Thursday, Vice Premier Haim Ramon said that Israeli military pressure on Hamas and other Palestinian organizations in the Gaza Strip would eventually bring an end the rocket attacks on the western Negev.

I Samuel 4:1,2 – And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Eben-ezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek. [2] And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.

I Samuel 4:10,11 – And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. [11] And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

1 Samuel 31:1-3 – Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. [2] And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchi-shua, Saul’s sons. [8] And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. [9] And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people. Palestinians: Three killed as IAF fires at car in central Gaza

Moments earlier, with over 50 Kassam rockets striking Israel on Wednesday alone, Defense Minister Ehud Barak vowed to increase the pressure on the Gaza Strip until the terrorism stops.

“We will increase the pressure on the Gaza Strip in order to bring an end to the Kassam rocket fire,” Barak said during an opening speech at a Naval graduation ceremony in Haifa.

The Israeli public sees what is happening in Gaza, Barak said, adding that Israel will continue its pinpoint attacks against terrorists.

“We are doing the most we can in order to hit the sources of terror, so that the rocket fire will end,” Barak said.

Two people were lightly wounded as around 20 of the rockets fired Wednesday landed in Sderot, including one which struck a house and another

Billionaire businessman Arkady Gaydamak bused some 200 Sderot residents to Jerusalem for some respite from the beleaguered town.

The IDF had been striking repeatedly at Palestinian rocket squads in northern Gaza since Wednesday morning and in one botched attack on a pickup truck east of Gaza City, a 12-year-old boy, his father and uncle were killed.

The Popular Resistance Committees said the apparent target was its chief rocket maker, who was driving in the area in a similar vehicle at the time.

Relatives identified the dead as 12-year-old Amir Yazagi, his father Mohammed and uncle Amr, said Dr. Moaiya Hassanain of the Gaza health ministry.

Maj. Avital Leibovich, an IDF spokeswoman, acknowledged that the Yazagi family’s vehicle was “unintentionally hit.”

Civilians regrettably are hurt when militants operate in civilian environments, Leibovich said.

“It is important to me to stress that we have no intention whatsoever to hit or hurt uninvolved civilians,” she said.

Hamas spokesman Taher Nunu called the strike “a new crime,” saying Israel was “killing more and more of our innocent people and our freedom fighters.”

Security forces had been bracing since Tuesday night for a major escalation on the Gaza front out of concern that the deaths of the 19 Palestinians, including the son of a top Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar, would spur the terror group to fire Kassam rockets into Israel.

The commander of the Lachish precinct convened a meeting Wednesday morning and decided to deploy large police forces around Sderot and Ashkelon and back them up with Traffic Police, Border Guard, volunteers and other special forces.

Hamas called a three-day mourning period for the Palestinians killed Tuesday, and a general strike took hold across the territory.

Palestinian flags were lowered to half-staff, verses from the Quran, the Muslim holy book, poured forth from mosque loudspeakers, and government offices, banks and shops were shuttered. Government offices and shops were also closed in the West Bank. Leading PA officials called Zahar to express condolences, and PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad issued his condolences in a statement to the media.

On Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called the head of Gaza’s government, Ismail Haniyeh, to express his condolences for the death of Zahar’s son, Nunu said.

Chief of Staff Ashkenazi: Troops engaged in ‘real fighting’ in Strip, army may boost operations if necessary

Hanan Greenberg

January 15, 2007

IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said Tuesday evening that the army may further expand its operations in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at a bereaved families’ convention in the Dead Sea, Ashkenazi addressed the fierce fighting in and around Gaza Tuesday, which saw the southern town of Sderot coming under ceaseless rocket barrages, as IDF forces targeted Gaza terrorists.

“Our best commanders and soldiers are engaged in real fighting in the Strip,” the army chief said. “We will continue to operate in the Strip in order to minimize the Qassam fire.”

Referring to the possibility of upgrading military operations in Gaza, Ashkenazi said that “if necessary, we will expand our operations there.”

More than 40 rockets fired from Gaza

Meanwhile, officials in Sderot and other Gaza-region communities are concerned about the prospect of continued rocket fire. Municipal officials in Sderot decided to boost public services aimed at supporting residents in the southern town, and opened bomb shelters.

However, despite the tensions the IDF gave the go-ahead for schools to remain open.

More than 40 Qassam rockets landed in Sderot and other communities in the region throughout Tuesday, including at least 10 rockets fired from Gaza after 10 PM. The rockets landed in open areas and caused no injuries or damage.

Hamas vows revenge after 18 killed

Yaakov Katz and Herb Keinon, THE JERUSALEM POST

January 15, 2008

Security forces were bracing Tuesday night for a major escalation on the Gaza front out of concern that the deaths of 19 Palestinians, including the son of a top Hamas official, would spur the terror group to fire Kassam rockets into Israel.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the killing of an Ecuadorian volunteer on a Gaza-belt kibbutz by a Palestinian sniper on Tuesday. The shooting took place in fields belonging to Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha near the Gaza border.

Until now, while Hamas has assisted Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) in the production and delivery of Kassams, it has refrained from directly participating in their launching, preferring to operate via proxy. The concern within the defense establishment was that following the high number of Hamas casualties in Tuesday’ s operation, the terror group would decide to become directly involved in firing rocket

s.

“If this happens, there will be a major increase in the number of rockets fired into Israel,” a defense official explained.

On Tuesday, 28 rockets pounded the western Negev and the city of Sderot. One scored a direct hit on a home, wounding five people, including a mother and her young daughter. Another rocket, a Grad-model Katyusha, hit an empty field in southern Ashkelon.

Elite troops from the Golani Brigade’s Egoz Unit, backed by tanks and Engineering Corps squads, swept into central Gaza early Tuesday morning in pursuit of Kassam rocket squads and terror infrastructure the IDF feared was being built up along the border fence.

Nineteen Palestinians – including three civilians, according to hospital officials in Gaza – were killed in the ensuing gunbattles and air strikes. One was Hussam Zahar, 24, son of hard-line Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar, who is viewed as the mastermind behind the violent Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip in June. Zahar’s eldest son, Khaled, was killed in 2003 when an F-16 dropped a bomb on his house in a failed attempt on Zahar’s life.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned what he described as “the Israeli massacre in Gaza.” According to the PA leader, Israel carried out barbaric actions that damage the peace process. “[We] cannot remain silent in light of these crimes,” he said.

Hamas declared three days of mourning throughout Gaza. Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said that the IDF operation was the result of US President George W. Bush’s visit to the Middle East.

“This crime is the ugly fruit of Bush’s visit to the region. He has incited the Zionists and has exerted pressure on the Palestinian side to become more hard-line against Palestinian dialogue,” he said.

Zahar accused Abbas of complicity in his son’s death.

“This is the hope of Abu Mazen and his colleagues, the collaborators with Israel and the spies of America,” Zahar said, referring to Abbas by his nickname.

Hamas, he vowed, would respond to Tuesday’s raid “in the appropriate way. We will defend ourselves by all means.”

The foreign volunteer killed in a western Negev kibbutz by a sniper on Tuesday morning was identified as Carlos Andres Muscara Chavez, 20, from Quito, Ecuador. Chavez was working in a potato field in Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, about 100 meters from the perimeter fence, when he was shot in the back. A Magen David Adom team summoned to the scene took the man, who was in serious condition, to the kibbutz infirmary, where he died of his wounds.

Defense officials said that Tuesday’s raid did not signify a change in policy and that no large-scale operation was expected in the immediate future. Officials acknowledged that raids like the one carried out in Gaza did not contribute to a positive atmosphere for talks with the PA, but said that the actions were “unfortunately necessary.”

“We are in a peace process, and we are also fighting terrorism, and both those things will continue in parallel,” a senior government official said.

An official in the Prime Minister’s Office said that as much as Israel was willing “to be creative in negotiations, we will not compromise on security.” The official also stressed that Tuesday’s actions did not represent a new policy toward the Gaza Strip, but rather a continuation of activities over the last few weeks that have actively targeted terrorists.

“These actions are designed to protect our people,” the official said. “They are surgical incursions designed to deal with the terrorist infrastructure. The operations have been successful in taking out hardcore terrorists, and we believe that the combination of military, economic and political pressure in Gaza will bring about a change.”

The Jerusalem Post article by Barry Rubin, which follows our heading, makes this very clear.

There are two types of spiritual earth dwellers unable to live in peace until one is defeated spiritually by the only true God. They both have spiritual Fathers. The two types exist as the seed of the Devil and as the seed of the true God through Christ, the promised Seed of the woman.

Genesis 3:15 – And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

John 8:44 – Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Jesus spoke the words of 8:44 to a group of deeply religious people, who believed there was only one God, and diligently bowed before him in worship.

However, Jesus told them the Devil was their father – They were children of the Devil.

And, in so doing, have been in direct contact with most religions of the world. Generally speaking, the more “religious” their followers are, the more fanatical they are in their practice of it. I have not yet encountered any religion more fanatical than Islam. I do not believe there is any religion that exhibits the spirit of Antichrist more than that of Islam. Muhammad was clever enough to include Jesus as a prophet in his writings, but also wise enough to deny Jesus was the Christ, the “Christos,” the “Anointed One,” the Son of the Living God.” To make Jesus anything less is to deny the testimony of God.

Matthew 3:16,17 – And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: [17] And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 16:13-17 – When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I

the Son of man am? [14] And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. [15] He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

[17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Philippians 2:8-11 – And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Matthew 28:18 – And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

I John 2:21-25 – I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. [22] Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. [23] Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

[24] Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. [25] And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

The Islamic faith teaches God has no son, because the Koran teaches it. They honor Jesus as a Prophet, but not as the Son of God. To deny Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living One and Only God, is the Spirit of Antichrist. We spend a lot of time trying to be politically non-offensive to the followers of Islam, while they consider us to be godless infidels, calling America the big Devil and Israel the little Devil, but a spade is a spade, and should be identified as such in some cases.

The followers of Islam are not desperate for peace. They are desperate to see the destruction of all who stand in the way of obedience to Allah. The Satanic trinity of the Beast (Antichrist the Son), the False Prophet (Unholy Spirit), and the Dragon ( Satan the Father) have no intension other than to destroy the followers of Christ and the remnant of Israel, and the final showdown of the Age of the Gentiles will culminate at Armageddon. The Antichrist and the False Prophet will be cast into a lake of fire burning with brimstone,

while the Devil will be cast into the bottomless pit for a thousand years. Only then can peace exist on this earth.

Revelation 16:13-16 – And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. [14] For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. [15] Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. [16] And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Revelation 19:19 to 20:3 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. [1] And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

[2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, [3] And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Are the Palestinians as Desperate as the West for Peace?

Barry Rubin

(Jerusalem Post)

January 15, 2008

Arafat had the power to make a deal if he wanted to. Of course, he did not. The Palestinian leader was restrained by his own character and ideology, and by fear of his

own people, whom he had trained toward extremism for decades.

PA leader Mahmoud Abbas is more willing to make peace. Yet this is more than counterbalanced by his extraordinary weakness.

Not only has Hamas seized control of Gaza, but Abbas does not have control over Fatah itself.

But aren’t the Palestinians desperate for a solution, given all their suffering? The answer is no. The ideology of extremist nationalism and Islamism, the belief that total victory is possible, the miscomprehension of Israel and suspicion of the West are all still in place.

Indeed, who acts as if they desperately need a diplomatic solution right away and will pay anything to get it? Not the Palestinians or the Arab states, but the West and the U.S.
