I have never seen the Middle East in such a maze of mass confusion. I am including an unusually large number of articles in this Blog just to picture the degree of instability along and 200 miles either side of a line from Cairo, Egypt to Kabul, Afghanistan.

It is absolutely impossible to being any kind of peace to the Middle East other that hudnas (truces), which are all false in character. Anyone who thinks diplomacy and dialogue can bring lasting peace to the Middle East must have been asleep, like Rip Van Winkle, for the last 59 years. Only the Messiah of Israel can bring peace to the Middle East, and it will last for a thousand years.

‘Syria arming Palestinian camps’

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said Wednesday that Syria was sending weapons to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and vowed to bring up the issue before the Arab League.

“In recent weeks, ammunition, weapons and fighters have been brought to the camps,” Saniora told reporters on a visit to France.

Saniora added that he had asked the United Nations to renew the mandate of international peacekeepers in his country, despite an attack last weekend that killed six members of the force.

“I am in no position to tell now” who was behind the Sunday car bombing in southern Lebanon that killed three Spaniards and three Colombians, Saniora told a news conference, adding that the investigation was continuing.

“I think the whole world is looking at this seriously.

This is an affront against the international community, against security and stability in Lebanon,” he said.

Saniora said he was talking to every member country of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, and was hearing an “unequivocal commitment.”

He said he has asked UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to renew the UNIFIL mandate, which expires at the end of August. The 13,000-member force from 30 countries, deployed nearly a year ago, is to implement a UN Security Council resolution that ended the 34-day war last summer between Israel and the Syrian and Iranian-backed Hizbullah. UNIFIL’s job also includes creating an area free of weapons in southern Lebanon and bringing peace to the Lebanon-Israel border.

The visiting Lebanese prime minister was meeting Wednesday with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

He met Tuesday with President Nicolas Sarkozy and with visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

France is trying to organize a conference on the Lebanese conflict bringing together representatives of various parties involved, and Saniora said he supported it. However, he held out scant hope that such an initiative could bring peace, saying that the “first goal” of such a conference was, above all, “to break the ice.”

Lebanon is facing its most serious political crisis since the end of the 1975-90 civil war. Saniora’ s We

stern-backed government and the Hizbullah-led opposition are locked in a fierce power struggle.

Rival Lebanese politicians have not met since a national dialogue conference ended last year without agreement.

Paris has had some difficulties in arranging the conference. An initial end-of-June date was extended to mid-July, but neither the French Foreign Ministry nor the Lebanese prime minister has been able to pinpoint a date.

Saniora said that a proposal for a meeting by the Arab League has hampered putting together a Paris conference. The French proposal came first, the prime minister said, and “the climate is favorable to moving forward with the French proposal.”

Dialogue is the only way to resolve Lebanon’s problems, Saniora said.

“We want Lebanon to be a nation, not a battlefield.”

Iran is deploying missiles in Syria in preparation for military action if it is attacked over its nuclear program, UN officials in the region said.

Under a mutual defense pact signed between Damascus and Tehran in 2005, Syria agreed to the deployment of sophisticated weaponry on its territory. The Iranians have now decided to implement the agreement.

Iran is preparing to transfer dozens of medium-range Shahab-3 and Russian-made Scud-C missiles, together with Scud-B missiles. Most of the missiles can be fired from mobile launchers and are capable of hitting targets across Israel.

“If Iran is attacked, then this will give it a number of retaliation options,” a senior UN offici

al in Lebanon said.

Iran Supplied Missile that Hit UK Helicopter

A British Royal Navy helicopter that crashed in flames in Basra last year, killing all five on board, was shot down by a sophisticated surface-to-air missile supplied to Iraqi militants by Iran, according to U.S. officials.

Three days before the attack, State Department officials interviewed an Iraqi linked to the Mahdi Army who told them Iran had supplied the militia with the Russian surface-to-air missile.

British and U.S. troops fought pitched battles with the Mahdi Army near the southern town of Amara last week as they broke up a network smuggling equipment from Iran to make armor-piercing shaped-charge bombs.

Hamas Has Rockets that Can Reach Ashkelon

Israel’s Channel 2 TV news reported this weekend that Hamas has 50 rockets with a range of 22 km that would be able to hit Ashkelon from the heart of Gaza.

An additional Hamas threat is its 20 Strella anti-aircraft missiles that could hit any aircraft flying over Gaza.

Fatah Officers Cooperated with Hamas in Gaza Takeover

“Dozens of officers in the (Fatah-affiliated) security forces are suspected of cooperating with Hamas during the Islamist group’s takeover of the Gaza Strip,” a senior Palestinian security official said Sunday.

He said the officers received money from Hamas in exchange for transferring information on the deployment of PA forces.

“During the fighting the extent of Hamas’ infiltration into the Palestinian security forces became abundantly clear,” he said.

The Dughmush clan that is holding BBC journalist Alan Johnston numbers some 2,500 members and possesses an enormous arsenal of weapons.

Clan members were not especially wealthy until the creation of the Palestinian Authority in 1994.

Articles and reports from numerous sources have predicted a Middle East War involving Israel, is on tap for late summer or early fall. I do not believe such a war will begin until some point in time after 2007, but prior to the beginning of 2013. I doubt if such a war would begin until the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

Syria Strengthening Forces on Border with Israel

The IDF Military Intelligence assessments to be presented to Israel’s security cabinet on Wednesday show that the Syrian army is deployed along the Golan Heights with strengthened forces, having moved units of large-caliber rockets, similar to the ones Hizbullah launched against Haifa during the Second Lebanon War, up to the front. The Syrian army has also improved its fortifications and has received modern, Russian-made anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles.

Security sources say there is concern that the Syrian deployments enable Syria to embark on a sudden, surprise attack.

Such action would be accompanied by a massive barrage of rockets from Hizbullah’s positions north of the Litani River. There has been a flow of intelligence reports about improved coordination and joint operations among Iran, Syria and Hizbullah. However, the dominant assessment of Military Intelligence is that Assad does not intend, at this stage, to start a war with Israel. (Ha’aretz)

Syria Upgrading Army with Iranian Aid

Syria is in the midst of an effort to strengthen its armed forces, at all levels, through multibillion-dollar arms procurements, mostly funded by Iran. The arms purchases, mostly from Russia, include short-range ground-to-ground missiles. In addition, the Syrians have acquired short-range rockets with satellite guidance systems, whose precision capabilities are very high. The Syrian army is trying in one fell swoop to upgrade itself from a force whose hardware had rusted to a modern army.

Is Syria Preparing for War?

The UN Security Council’s decision to establish an international court to try Basher Assad and his relatives for the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has made the Syrian government frantic. This development may come at Israel’s expense, as within the battle for his survival Assad may embark on a war against Israel sooner than expected.

As a result of the last war the Syrians understood that there is no need for a large ground force, but rather, missiles aimed at Israeli population centers. Assad is fooling the world: He advocates diplomatic talks, yet evidence shows he is preparing for war. (Ynet News)

With Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades grafted back into Fatah’s terrorist tree from which they splintered, Fatah will have an internal terrorist group with the same determination to drive Israel into the sea, as well as having the same platform toward peace as Hamas. Hamas will have a direct link into Fatah, and the West Bank, through Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades.

RAMALLAH – The Palestinian Authority denied over the weekend that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas had decided to dismantle Fatah’s armed wing, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades, in the West Bank.

Sources close to Abbas said the only decision that was taken in this regard was to incorporate

the Fatah gunmen into the PA security forces in the West Bank.

“All the members of the Aksa Martyrs Brigades will become official members of the security forces,” the sources said. “We want them to become a legitimate force operating within the frame of the Palestinian security forces.”

According to the sources, the Fatah militiamen will be placed under the direct jurisdiction of Abbas.

“The group will be allowed to retain its name and status,” the explained. “The group won’t be dismantled.”

On Thursday, the Fatah leadership called on Abbas to dismantle all militias and armed gangs operating in the West Bank as part of a plan to restore law and order.

The decision drew sharp reactions from members of the Aksa Martyrs Brigades, who said they would resist any attempt to break up the group or confiscate its weapons.

Zakariya Zubeidi, a leading commander of the group in the Jenin area, said his men would not surrender their weapons unless they received assurances from Abbas that the Palestinian issue would be solved in a just and comprehensive manner.

Zubeidi warned against dismantling any armed Palestinian group as part of a US-backed plan to end the “resistance” against Israel. “We won’t give in our weapons as long as the occupation exists and is continuing to target our leaders and members,” he said.

Zubeidi said that while he and his men supported Abbas’s effort to confiscate illegal weapons, they were strongly opposed to any measure to take weapons that are being used against Israel.

The Bethlehem-based Maan news agency quoted Abu Fuad, a spokesman for the Aksa Martyrs Brigades in the West Bank, as saying that Abbas had agreed to merge the group into the Palestinian security forces.

“There is no decision to dismantle the Aksa Martyrs Brigades,” he stressed. “The president only wants to turn us into a legitimate force. This is the agreement we reached with the president.”

Fatah-Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades chiefs defy Mahmoud Abbas’ ban on unauthorized persons bearing arms on West Bank

Abbas gave the order in default of a pledge he gave Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert at Sharm al-Sheikh Monday, June 25. In return for Israeli immunity from arrest, Abbas promised to collect signed statements renouncing terrorism from Fatah-al Aqsa members, have them turn in their weapons to the Palestinian Authority forces for registration and join up with Palestinian security forces.

Abbas explained he needed the Brigades fighters, many of whom are wanted for orchestrating suicide attacks against Israel in the last decade, to combat Hamas on the West Bank.

The Israeli defense forces and Shin Bet conduct nightly raids against terrorists of all the Palestinian groups thereby holding down suicide attacks against Israel. Olmert told Abbas his Fatah fighters would have immunity if he held them to Israeli conditions starting Tuesday, June 26. Instead, Abbas issued an order b

TWO GREAT JEWISH SPEECHES – Herzog (1975) and Herzl (1896)

The Jerusalem Post Article, which follows Prophecy Update Number 23, discusses the speech given by Herzog before the United Nations in 1975.

In Archive Prophecy Update Number 23, I described the effects of Herzl’s great speech that was the forerunner of Israel’s return to her God-given land.

PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 23

When Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote “The Jewish Graveyard at Newport,” he concluded it with these lines:

“But ah! What once has been shall be no more! The groaning earth in travail and in pain brings forth its races, but does not restore, And the dead nations never rise again.”

Longfellow penned these words in 1852, at a time when it seemed impossible that the dead nation of Israel could ever rise again. Little did Longfellow realize that among the lifeless Jews scattered around the world there was to be thrown the eternal spark of life.

It was the spark of rebirth kindled by the message of Theodor Herzl in 1896 – the message of “The Jewish State.” For more than 1800 years the chosen people of God, the dead nation of Israel, wandered as forsaken corpses in the great wilderness of the Gentile nations.

But the same God, who allowed this punishment of a rejecting nation to occur, has now caused a dead nation to be resurrected from its Gentile graveyard. Longfellow was wrong; God has lifted up a scattered corpse into a living nation – the risen nation of Israel. When the Great Tribulation Period begins on this planet, both unbelieving Jew and Gentile will personally feel the wrath of Almighty God.

Ezekiel 37:5-7 – Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: [6] And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord. [7] So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

We closed Prophecy Update 22 with Ezekiel 37:5, where he writes: “Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:” This verse gives a preview of what God is going to do in the verses which follow. He is going to transform these dead bones into a living nation of flesh, blood, and finally breath. It is not to be d one instantly, but rather in a series of stages, as

one would perform in building a human body over a skeleton frame.

Verse 6 of Ezekiel 37 describes this building of a living human body (Israel) over her dead bones: “And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.” “I will lay sinews upon you” refers to those tissues (such as nerve tissue) immediately touching the bones.

“And will bring up flesh upon you” pictures all that exists between sinew and skin. “And cover you with skin” portrays the dermis, epidermis, and general structure we identify as skin.

“And put breath in you” is a description of the process by which physical (not spiritual) life continues. After God brings a skeleton together, then covers it with a body, He puts breath in it for physical life among the Gentile nations of the world: “And put breath in you.” This is not the spiritual rebirth of Israel.

This was her recognition of being a living physical nation by most of the Gentile nations. Her spiritual rebirth does not occur until “ye shall know that I am the LORD” comes to pass. This is the spiritual rebirth of the nation in that it follows her physical birth in time. It is the last link in a natural chain of nation rebuilding, which is characterized by the chronological sequence of bone, sinew, flesh, breath, physical life, and finally spiritual reconciliation with her God. This chronological sequence, prophesied some 2600 years ago, began in 1896, and is still continuing.

Verse 7 marks the beginning of the chronological sequence outlined in Verse 6: “So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.” “There was a noise.” This was the noise heard round the world in 1896-97 as Jews rallied behind the thundering message of “The Jewish State,” which was delivered by Theodor Herzl. This message from Switzerland was soon echoed around the world, and the birth of Zionism sprang forth as the dry bones began to cry out: We want a homeland – a homeland in Israel.

“And behold a shaking.” This was the shaking of the bones that brought them to life, and caused them to come together as a people under the British Protectorate of Palestine, which

was established by the League of Nations Mandate in 1920. Lord willing, in Prophecy Update 24 we will continue the building of a nation by the hand of God.

Herzog’s UN speech ‘changed the world’

32 years after his words astonished the UN General Assembly, the speech delivered by former ambassador to the UN Chaim Herzog, who later became president of Israel, will be included as one of the 50 most important speeches in history, Yediot Aharonot reported Tuesday.

The speech will be reprinted in the new edition of the book Speeches that Changed the World, edited by a team of British historians and planned for publication in August.

On November 10th, 1975, the UN General Assembly approved resolution 3379, which mandated that Zionism was a form of racism. Following the decision, Herzog ascended the assembly’s podium and made the speech still considered one of the most important in Israeli diplomacy.

Herzog warned the other ambassadors that they would be accountable for the next holocaust, that might ensue following the decision, voted on the 37th yahrzeit of Kristallnacht.

“For us, the Jewish people, this resolution based on hatred, falsehood and arrogance, is devoid of any moral or legal value. For us, the Jewish people, this is no more than a piece of paper and we shall treat it as such,” Herzog announced, proceeding to tear the document

to shreds.

The team in charge of editing the book is headed by historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, a descendant of Moses Montefiore.

” – this is one of the most important speeches in history regarding the fight against anti-Semitism,” he said.

Herzog’s speech appears side by side with speeches by Martin Luther King (“I have a dream”), Winston Churchill (“Blood, sweat and tears”), Nelson Mandela (“Free at last”) and former US presidents John F. Kennedy (“Don’t ask what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”) and Ronald Reagan (“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”).

Also included is a speech by US President George W. Bush, made after the 9/11 attack (“A great people has been moved to defend a great nation”).

Internal Israeli Problems diverting Government from External Ones!

Shoring up Abbas, being alert to Hamas suicide bombings, disagreeing with Secretary Rice’s Plan, and seeing rockets from Gaza land in Sderot and the Gaza border area crossing are causing the Israeli government to spread their attention thin. These are far from being the government’s only problems, with the overall problem being that every time one thing seems to be straightened out, two more pop up to replace it. Israel’s greatest problem is growing immorality within its own society, which is the major problem in all societies.

Greed and covetousness among the elected officials stems out of immorality in government, as it does in all the governments of this world.

Isaiah 5:20-23 – Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! [21] Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Israelis, Arabs Meeting to Shore Up Abbas

Prime Minister Olmert will announce a series of steps to bolster PA Chairman Abbas at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit Monday with Egyptian President Mubarak and Jordan’s King Abdullah. Israel will undertake the following to bolster Abbas: Release PA customs duties and VAT funds collected by Israel while ensuring that none of the money is given to militant groups.

Continue humanitarian assistance to Gaza and open the Kerem Shalom crossing to the passage of people and cargo. Reissue VIP cards to Palestinians. Allow the transfer of armored cars to Fatah forces in the West Bank.

Shin Bet Chief: Hamas Planning Terror Attack

Hamas plans a suicide attack inside Israel, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin warned the Israeli cabinet on Sunday. Hamas would not settle for conquering Gaza, but also planned to take over the West Bank and the PLO, he said. Diskin said Hamas “is examining the option of carrying out a suicide attack in order to prevent (Abbas’) strengthening.” “Fatah is dismantled and divided in the West Bank, and its strength is in Hamas’ weakness. It has no leadership; there is no one person running things,” he added.

Diskin said last week’s rocket attack on Kiryat Shmona was a result of clashes between the Lebanese military and the Fatah al-Islam terror group operating from the Nahr el-Bared refugee camp in northern Lebanon. “Following these events, they tried to take that conflict out on Israel.

The conflict is with Fatah al-Islam, which is a global Jihad organization. As far as we are concerned, this is the entrance of al-Qaeda into the Arab world,” Diskin said. (Ynet News)

Olmert Shelves Rice’s Shelf Agreement

During his visit to the U.S. last week, Prime Minister Olmert rejected a proposal by Secretary of State Rice that Israel negotiate a permanent settlement with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Rice supports talks on a “shelf agreement” that would outline a permanent settlement but not be implemented immediately because of Abbas’ weak standing. In Rice’s view, merely reaching such an agreement in principle would provide the Palestinians with a “political horizon” and hope.

Israel and the United States are now in the position of choosing to deal with a group of moderate terrorists who are lying thieves, or a group of fanatical Islamic lying terrorists who are not thieves, Quite a choice.

At best it is a choice of the lesser

of two evils.

It appears Fatah has made a clean break with Hamas, hopping off the extreme Hamas terrorist horse while crossing a wide river of Palestinian blood.

But I say that with tongue in cheek, because strange things are the rule rather than the exception among the many terrorist groups, who splinter off each other like church denominations, only to regroup later as the best of buddies.

Great Gobs of financial and humanitarian aid, as well as abundant military weapons and equipment are flowing into Fatah’s control from many sources.

The major questions in the minds of those supplying Fatah, now they have broken with Hamas are (1) Will they patch the blanket and reunite with Hamas, and (2) Will Fatah be able to keep Hamas from conquering the West Bank

? If either one of these eventualities should occur, the weapons the West is supplying would end up turned against the West and Israel. I rather doubt that Hamas will be able to take over the West Bank, because of the Israeli presence there.

Shock, Awe and Dread in Gaza

Quiet returned to the streets of Gaza all at once this week. Gunmen (not members of Hamas) have disappeared from the streets, apparently due to a fear of

the Hamas Executive Force.

And now that Hamas has banned people from masking their faces, that phenomenon has also ceased. Hamas traffic cops dressed in civilian clothes now stand guard at intersections. At the same time, Iz a-Din al-Kassam, the Hamas military wing, is constantly searching the homes of suspects, collecting weapons of members of the Palestinian security services, and responding to the actions of the armed clans. The Durmush clan, which is holding BBC journalist Alan Johnston, is the last bastion of opposition to Hamas in Gaza.

The quiet can be attributed, at least in part, to the fear Hamas struck into residents’ hearts last week. Testimony collected from the days of fighting indicates that Hamas imposed a methodical system of terror and scare tactics intended to deter, shock

and frighten Fatah operatives and Gaza residents in general. Every Hamas patrol carried with it a laptop containing a list of Fatah operatives in Gaza, and an identity number and a star appeared next to each name. A red star meant the operative was to be executed and a blue one meant he was to be shot in the legs – a special, cruel tactic developed by Hamas, in which the shot is fired from the back of the knee so that the kneecap is shattered when the bullet exits the other side. A black star signaled arrest, and no star meant that the Fatah member was to be beaten and released.

Hamas also killed innocent Palestinians, with the intention of deterring the large clans. To overpower the Bakr clan from Shati, Hamas removed all the family members from their compound and lined them up against a wall. Militants selected a 14-year-old girl, two women aged 19 and 75, and two elderly men, and shot them to death in cold blood.

PA intel chief: Hamas takeover was coordinated with Iran

The Palestinian Authority intelligence chief on Sunday accused Iran of close involvement in Hamas’ violent takeover of Gaza, saying Teheran funded the group and trained hundreds of their gunmen.

The intelligence chief, Tawfiq Tirawi, said the battle for Gaza earlier this month was carefully orchestrated.

“It was a joint program with Iran,” he said.

In implied criticism of Syria, he noted that Hamas’ leadership is based there. He said that a month before the battle for Gaza began, the Syrian-based leaders of Hamas met with the heads of the Hamas military wing in an undisclosed Arab capital. “In this meeting, they discussed all the details of the operation.” Tirawi told a news conference.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri dismissed the allegations of Hamas-Iran cooperation as “baseless fabrication,” and denied Hamas fighters had been trained in Iran.

On Saturday, Hamas hardliner Mahmoud Zahar was quoted as telling a German news magazine that he had personally carried $42 million in cash from Iran across the Gaza-Egypt border.

Tirawi warned that Hamas militants are hoarding weapons in the West Bank and might try to target Palestinian government installations there. The West Bank is a stronghold of the rival Fatah movement of moderate Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Meanwhile, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhari said Sunday that the group was hurt by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s statement made the previous day during which he denounced Hamas’s takeover of the Gaza Strip.

Mubarak described Hamas’s takeover of Gaza as a “coup” and warned that group’s conflict with the moderate Fatah movement could lead to the creation of two Palestinian entities.

Abu Zuhari told BBC radio that the Egyptian president supports only one side on account of the other side.

“Hamas was elected by law and agreed to establish a unity government with Fatah, but the one responsible for dissolving it is Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazzen, and not Hamas.” He said.
