I have never seen the Middle East in such a maze of mass confusion. I am including an unusually large number of articles in this Blog just to picture the degree of instability along and 200 miles either side of a line from Cairo, Egypt to Kabul, Afghanistan.
It is absolutely impossible to being any kind of peace to the Middle East other that hudnas (truces), which are all false in character. Anyone who thinks diplomacy and dialogue can bring lasting peace to the Middle East must have been asleep, like Rip Van Winkle, for the last 59 years. Only the Messiah of Israel can bring peace to the Middle East, and it will last for a thousand years.
Welcome to an Assortment of Iranians, Syrians, Lebanese Hizbullah, and Palestinian Thugs, Murderers, Religious Fanatics, and Liars, with whom one day peaceniks say we can negotiate peace, which is the height of fantasy in a world of unreality. ‘Syria arming Palestinian camps’

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said Wednesday that Syria was sending weapons to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and vowed to bring up the issue before the Arab League.
“In recent weeks, ammunition, weapons and fighters have been brought to the camps,” Saniora told reporters on a visit to France.
Saniora added that he had asked the United Nations to renew the mandate of international peacekeepers in his country, despite an attack last weekend that killed six members of the force.
“I am in no position to tell now” who was behind the Sunday car bombing in southern Lebanon that killed three Spaniards and three Colombians, Saniora told a news conference, adding that the investigation was continuing.
“I think the whole world is looking at this seriously.
This is an affront against the international community, against security and stability in Lebanon,” he said.
Saniora said he was talking to every member country of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, and was hearing an “unequivocal commitment.”
He said he has asked UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to renew the UNIFIL mandate, which expires at the end of August. The 13,000-member force from 30 countries, deployed nearly a year ago, is to implement a UN Security Council resolution that ended the 34-day war last summer between Israel and the Syrian and Iranian-backed Hizbullah. UNIFIL’s job also includes creating an area free of weapons in southern Lebanon and bringing peace to the Lebanon-Israel border.
The visiting Lebanese prime minister was meeting Wednesday with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
He met Tuesday with President Nicolas Sarkozy and with visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
France is trying to organize a conference on the Lebanese conflict bringing together representatives of various parties involved, and Saniora said he supported it. However, he held out scant hope that such an initiative could bring peace, saying that the “first goal” of such a conference was, above all, “to break the ice.”
Lebanon is facing its most serious political crisis since the end of the 1975-90 civil war. Saniora’ s We
stern-backed government and the Hizbullah-led opposition are locked in a fierce power struggle.
Rival Lebanese politicians have not met since a national dialogue conference ended last year without agreement.
Paris has had some difficulties in arranging the conference. An initial end-of-June date was extended to mid-July, but neither the French Foreign Ministry nor the Lebanese prime minister has been able to pinpoint a date.
Saniora said that a proposal for a meeting by the Arab League has hampered putting together a Paris conference. The French proposal came first, the prime minister said, and “the climate is favorable to moving forward with the French proposal.”
Dialogue is the only way to resolve Lebanon’s problems, Saniora said.
“We want Lebanon to be a nation, not a battlefield.”

Iran Establishes Missile Defense Shield in Syria

Iran is deploying missiles in Syria in preparation for military action if it is attacked over its nuclear program, UN officials in the region said.
Under a mutual defense pact signed between Damascus and Tehran in 2005, Syria agreed to the deployment of sophisticated weaponry on its territory. The Iranians have now decided to implement the agreement.
Iran is preparing to transfer dozens of medium-range Shahab-3 and Russian-made Scud-C missiles, together with Scud-B missiles. Most of the missiles can be fired from mobile launchers and are capable of hitting targets across Israel.
“If Iran is attacked, then this will give it a number of retaliation options,” a senior UN offici
al in Lebanon said.

Iran Supplied Missile that Hit UK Helicopter

A British Royal Navy helicopter that crashed in flames in Basra last year, killing all five on board, was shot down by a sophisticated surface-to-air missile supplied to Iraqi militants by Iran, according to U.S. officials.
Three days before the attack, State Department officials interviewed an Iraqi linked to the Mahdi Army who told them Iran had supplied the militia with the Russian surface-to-air missile.
British and U.S. troops fought pitched battles with the Mahdi Army near the southern town of Amara last week as they broke up a network smuggling equipment from Iran to make armor-piercing shaped-charge bombs.

Hamas Has Rockets that Can Reach Ashkelon

Israel’s Channel 2 TV news reported this weekend that Hamas has 50 rockets with a range of 22 km that would be able to hit Ashkelon from the heart of Gaza.
An additional Hamas threat is its 20 Strella anti-aircraft missiles that could hit any aircraft flying over Gaza.

Fatah Officers Cooperated with Hamas in Gaza Takeover

“Dozens of officers in the (Fatah-affiliated) security forces are suspected of cooperating with Hamas during the Islamist group’s takeover of the Gaza Strip,” a senior Palestinian security official said Sunday.
He said the officers received money from Hamas in exchange for transferring information on the deployment of PA forces.
“During the fighting the extent of Hamas’ infiltration into the Palestinian security forces became abundantly clear,” he said.

Hamas, Clan Rivalries, and Alan Johnston’s Dangerous Predicament

The Dughmush clan that is holding BBC journalist Alan Johnston numbers some 2,500 members and possesses an enormous arsenal of weapons.
Clan members were not especially wealthy until the creation of the Palestinian Authority in 1994.
Their well-developed network of smugglers, coupled with close personal contacts to Fatah, allowed them to enter the profitable arms trade that was the foundation for their empire.

Crying for Diplomatic Negotiations while Preparing for War!

Articles and reports from numerous sources have predicted a Middle East War involving Israel, is on tap for late summer or early fall. I do not believe such a war will begin until some point in time after 2007, but prior to the beginning of 2013. I doubt if such a war would begin until the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

Syria Strengthening Forces on Border with Israel

The IDF Military Intelligence assessments to be presented to Israel’s security cabinet on Wednesday show that the Syrian army is deployed along the Golan Heights with strengthened forces, having moved units of large-caliber rockets, similar to the ones Hizbullah launched against Haifa during the Second Lebanon War, up to the front. The Syrian army has also improved its fortifications and has received modern, Russian-made anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles.
Security sources say there is concern that the Syrian deployments enable Syria to embark on a sudden, surprise attack.
Such action would be accompanied by a massive barrage of rockets from Hizbullah’s positions north of the Litani River. There has been a flow of intelligence reports about improved coordination and joint operations among Iran, Syria and Hizbullah. However, the dominant assessment of Military Intelligence is that Assad does not intend, at this stage, to start a war with Israel. (Ha’aretz)

Syria Upgrading Army with Iranian Aid

Syria is in the midst of an effort to strengthen its armed forces, at all levels, through multibillion-dollar arms procurements, mostly funded by Iran. The arms purchases, mostly from Russia, include short-range ground-to-ground missiles. In addition, the Syrians have acquired short-range rockets with satellite guidance systems, whose precision capabilities are very high. The Syrian army is trying in one fell swoop to upgrade itself from a force whose hardware had rusted to a modern army.

Is Syria Preparing for War?

The UN Security Council’s decision to establish an international court to try Basher Assad and his relatives for the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has made the Syrian government frantic. This development may come at Israel’s expense, as within the battle for his survival Assad may embark on a war against Israel sooner than expected.
As a result of the last war the Syrians understood that there is no need for a large ground force, but rather, missiles aimed at Israeli population centers. Assad is fooling the world: He advocates diplomatic talks, yet evidence shows he is preparing for war. (Ynet News)
