rtunity to view the Fox News TV program titled “OBSESSION,” I encourage you to do so if it is rebroadcast. I believe the “obsession” is all a part of the taking over of the soul of the Islamic faith by the Spirit of Antichrist, which is now being manifested in the teachings and actions of radical Islam. Their actions, conducted in accordance with the teachings, will soon lead to the beginning of a war in the Middle East that will eventually terminate at Armageddon.

The “obsession” of fanaticism is resulting in the “possession” of Islam by the Spirit of Antichrist.

I began yesterday’s BLOG with the following paragraph:
I have contended for more than thirty years that the teachings of the Islamic faith are the Spirit of Antichrist, and that the Antichrist himself would come out of it. The Fox News broadcast “Obsession” is a very clear manifestation of the Spirit of Antichrist in radical Islam, via its graphic portrayal of Islam’s two major goals – the slaying of Christians and the Jews, through which the promises of the true God have come by their spread of the inspired Old and New Testaments of God’s Word.

From within the Middle East an abomination, symbolized by a satanic trinity of three frogs, will rise along the shores of the Euphrates River.

The Spirit of Antichrist has already risen in the midst of the kingdom of the beast, upon which the future fifth vial of God’s wrath will be poured near the end of the coming tribulation period. The Euphrates south of Turkey touches the countries of Syria, Iraq, and Iran. The kings of the “known” world, which existed at the time John wrote Revelation, will be invited by the spirits of the three frogs to come down and join them for a last battle of Armageddon. They will come from Europe, Eurasia, Russia, China, Asia, and Africa.

The battle of Armageddon will mark the end of the war that lasts for some three and one-half years.

My guesstimate of the time an attack will occur by ten Arab nations, which will start the war three and one-half years before Armageddon, is at some point in time between 2008 and 2012, but I do not believe the nations, from the aforementioned areas, will come down until the sixth vial is poured out near the very end of the three and one-half years.

So, my guesstimate for the final battle of Armageddon would be at some point in time between 2012 and 2016. As I have stated consistently for many years, this is my opinion, my guesstimate – nothing more and nothing less.

The important thing about all this is not precisely WHEN it occurs, but to be still “keeping your garments” of faithful service by your saved soul at all times, so you will be ready WHENEVER it does finally occur, as indicated in Revelation 16:15.

The spirit of Jihad and the cry for a messianic leader is growing in the Middle East. The takeover in Gaza is setting the stage for a growing confidence in the Islamic mind for an eventual complete victory in the Middle East.

The coming months of haggling in the West Bank will also end in what Islam will proclaim as a victory, no matter how few or how many settlements the Israelis finally end up pulling out. The following article was taken from the DEBKAfile, and gives a sort of preview of the current trend, and the ever increasing victorious rhetoric of the factions within and without the Palestinian Authority.

During my 20 plus years in military service, from time to time I went to school with the followers of Islam, and trained one in meteorological severe weather prediction at the Federal Office building in Kansas City, Missouri. The information which follows is about a traditional teaching involving the arrival of an Islamic Imam Mahdi (al-Imam al-Mahdi) at the end of this last age before the resurrection. The word Imam means “to walk before,” and carries the title of Caliph, and the word “Mahdi” means “a leader, and a spiritual guide and director.” The Muslims expect this leader and prophet to appear on the earth before the world ends, and he is expected to be the Islamic Messiah. The belief is based on thousands of traditions that claim to go all the way back to the Koran, but I have never been able to find a legitimate reference in the Koran without twisting its context. Of course, I do not believe Islamic tradition or the Koran, but what I believe is beside the point.

The point is that most Muslims do believe it. So when a man does arise among them they can label as an Imam Mahdi, then I believe he will be the antichrist of which the Bible teaches, which I do believe, and it will make it much easier for some 700 million Muslims, most of which live in the Middle East, to follow him in a great and united Jihad against Israel. The al-Imam al-Mahdi will carry the title “The Just Leader of Humanity.”

Even though it cannot be found in the Koran, there are a large number of learned Muslims who claim the belief in Mahdi was widespread during Muhammad’s lifetime among them. Many say on more than one occasion he had announced the future coming of the Mahdi, and that at times he would also inform the people about the Mahdi’s wonderful new government, plus the many signs preceding his rise among the people. Ancient Islamic documents do quote the Prophet as saying: “The world will not come to an end until a man from my family line, that will be called al-Mahdi, emerges to rule my community.” A couple of other quotes from Islamic documents are also valuable in understand Muslim beliefs on this subject; one makes a statement that is quoted as having been uttered by the Prophet three times: “Listen to the good news about the Mahdi! He will rise at the time when the people will be faced with severe conflict and the earth will be hit by a violent quake. He will fill the earth with justice and equality as it is filled

with injustice and tyranny. He will fill the hearts of his followers with devotion and will spread justice everywhere (Mihal, Vol. 1, p .256: Firaq, p. 62).” And, in Milal, Vol.

1, pp. 273, 278 and Firaq, pp.

67, 80, 83, the Prophet has declared: “The day of Resurrection will not take place until the True Qa’im rises. This will happen when God permits him to do so. Anyone who follows him will be saved, and anyone who opposes him will perish. O servants of God, keep God in your mind and go towards him, even if it happens to be on the ice, for indeed he is the Caliph of God, the Exalted and Glorified, and my successor.”

Shiites revere 12 Imams historically, the last of whom is believed to be currently in hiding, but will make himself known to Islam as the al-Mahdi in the last days of this age.

There is also a traditional teaching that he will rise from the dead before the end of time.

The subject of Imams is what led to the great split in the Islamic ranks between the Sunni, the largest party, and the Shiite, the second largest party. But the Kurds and other splinter groups also have their religious Imams, which is one of the major reasons there can never be a true democracy in Iraq, because of the bitter enmity between the Islamic divisions. However, if a strong leader, with great religious charisma, should arise out of hiding to unite them all in the belief he was the Imam Mahdi of Islamic tradition with the power of Allah, the fanaticism of the Muslims would create much more than just an occasional suicide bomber – It would generate a massive flood of millions charging across the northern border of Israel unafraid of death. Of course, I do not believe the Koran or the traditional teachings of Islam. I decided long ago, from Micah 5:1-9, that the antichrist would be of Assyrian lineage, and would come out of the area that included Lebanon, extreme southern Turkey, Syria, northern Iraq, or the extreme tip of northwestern Iran (See Prophecy Updates 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, and 69 in our Prophecy Archives). And I am confident he will be of the Islamic faith (See Prophecy Updates 160B and 161C in our Prophecy Archives). If you really want your eyes opened to what was taught prophetically before 1740, then check out the following Prophecy Updates in our archives: 73D, 74A, 78, 82A, 114A, 117B, 56, 57, 58, 123B and 123D. It may be you will discover that what is going on now in the Middle East fits what pre-1740 prophetic teachings indicated would be happening, in the last days, more accurately than the twentieth century popular teachings of end time events. As I stated earlier, I do not believe the Koran or Islamic trad itional teaching, but

it is ironic that they are primed to receive the one we call the antichrist from their own writings, which identify him as their Messiah. Before too much longer I expect a man from within the area I previously identified, probably Syria, to be manifested as someone behind which all Muslims can unite to meet their goal of driving Israel out of the land from Dan to Beersheba, and with a view toward overcoming all the infidels in the name of Allah.

Some two years and nine months ago, In Archive Prophecy Update 161C, I warned that Syria had made “a very bad choice.” I knew that once Bashar Assad made the choice, both he and Syria would undergo a gradual transformation from Secular to Islamic fundamentalism. The transformation began as soon as Assad chose to tie himself to Iran, and will have already been completed when the Assyrian Antichrist, the Mahdi, makes his appearance in the Middle East. Please read Archive Prophecy Update Number 161C which immediately follows. Syria Makes a Very Bad Choice

I have always believed and taught that the most likely part of the old Roman Empire, which would foster the rise of the Antichrist, would be Syria. Syria has been hanging suspended between two choices: (1) Turn toward the United States in order to avoid sanctions, and to gain support from the western world in a war on terror, or, (2) Turn toward Iran to make an alliance and continue to give support to all the terrorist groups. On February 28 Syria apparently made its choice. The Iranian Defense Minister, Admiral Ali Shamkhani, came to Damascus and signed a new military pact with the Syrian Defense Minister, General Mustufa Tias. I believe this is a clear sign that President Assad has made his choice to put his trust in an Iran-Syria Axis to protect his administration from a coup by terrorist groups in his own country. President Assad has been active recently in communications with Washington to see what they would give him in the way of security if he should choose to give up sponsoring the many terrorist group offices in Syria, and Hizbollah in Lebanon. Really, he did not have much of a choice. Had he turned pro-west and resisted the terrorist groups, his regime would have been overthrown in a matter of weeks. Syria’s new military pact with Iran likely contains an Iranian promise to invest in additional long range Scud-C missiles, now in mass production at Syria’s underground missile facility near Hamah, which is somewhat ironic in that the northern extent of Israel’s territory, after it defeats Syria at the end of the tribulation period, will extend to Hamah. The biblical name for Hamah is Hamath.

Ezekiel 47:17 – And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border

of Hamath. And this is the north side.

Genesis 15:18 – In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

Ezekiel 47:19 – And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.

If you want to envision the size of the Abrahamic Land Grant promised to the descendants of Abraham through Jacob (Israel), then go southwest from the southernmost tip of the Gaza Strip along the coastline of the Mediterranean 35 miles and place a point on the shoreline. Then dr aw

a line directly east from that point until you hit the Euphrates River of Iraq. That is the southern border of the land God promised to the seed of Abraham through his grandson, the man whom God renamed Israel, the man Jacob, the son of Isaac, the promised seed God gave through Sarah. The northern border of the land grant may be visualized by finding Hamah or Hama in north central Syria, and then drawing an east-west line through it, which ends on the Mediterranean to the west, and on the Euphrates River to the east. This is the northern border of Abraham’s God given Land Grant. As you can see, this is a very large tract of land, 95 percent of which is occupied by descendants of Abraham through Ishmael’s twelve sons, the six sons of Abraham by Keturah, and Moab and Ammon, the two sons of Abraham’s nephew Lot by his own daughters. They are identified generally as Arabs, and some 95 percent of them are

of the Islamic faith. Since they believe that the promises of God come through Abraham’s son Ishmael through Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaiden, you can see the basic reason for the hatred between Arabs and Jews that has only intensified with the passage of the centuries (See Prophecy Updates 67 and 68 in the Archives).

I am confident that the new military pact will undoubtedly transfer the information necessary for the manufacture of the advanced Shihab-3 missile in Syria, as well as the financing for greater production of long-range artillery and ammunition.

The United States and Europe wanted Syria to follow Libya’s lead, but Bashar Assad was really in no political position to do so without being overthrown by the terrorist elements in his own country. There were four things the United States wanted Syria to give up.

(1) Scrap your long-range missile program.

(2) Scrap your WMD program.

(3) Drive all the terrorist groups out of Syria.

(4) Stop supporting Hizbollah in Lebanon.

I feel confident it was a choice Bashar Assad simply could not make. Iran and Syria are of the same mind on these four issues.

Had Syria chosen to do those four things, it would have cut Iran’s flow of weaponry and the movement of terrorists to Hizbollah.

Syria was left without any military backup with the fall of Iraq, so Assad has chosen to shore up and expand its existing ties with Iran, and create new military ties with them for a joint defense against the west. The strong showing by the radical Shiite hardliners in Iran’s elections last month was a strong element that Assad considered in making his choice. Iranian Shiites will continue to have a direct pipeline via Damascus airport for massive shipments of military hardware

to the large Hizbollah terrorist army, which it has supported in southern Lebanon for years, as have the Syrians.

Contrary to today’s popular belief, the antichrist will not come out of Europe, but out of the area that includes Syria, Lebanon, and northern Iraq (See Special Prophecy Update 74B and Whole Numbered Prophecy Updates 62 to 69).

And, contrary to today’s popular belief, the 10 toes of Daniel’s statue and the 10 horns on his fourth beast, which are the same 10 nations that will make up the coalition of nations that attack Israel in the last days, will not come out of Europe, but out of the southern half of the old Roman Empire, which included lands from Morocco to Iran, and as far north as Turkey (See Prophecy Updates 54 and 78).

Daniel 2:42 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

Eye of the Storm: The ‘Iranization’ of Syria

While there is much talk of continued Syrian machinations in Lebanon, little attention is paid to an Iranian plan to remodel Syria into a Khomeinist state.

The Teheran-Damascus axis that challenges the United States in the Middle East was first formed in 1980 when Saddam Hussein invaded Iran in the hope of destroying the newly created Islamic Republic.

At first, the Khomeinist regime in Iran and the Ba’athist dictatorship in Syria seemed unlikely allies. The Khomeinists followed a radical Shi’ite ideology aimed at global jihad in the name of their brand of Islam. The Syrian Ba’athists, on the other hand, were secularists inspired by an Arabized version of National Socialism aimed at uniting Arab countries under one flag and one party.

The Iran-Iraq war brought the two together for a simple reason: the Syrians knew that if Saddam won he would become the unrivaled Arab supremo, marginalizing the Syrian Ba’ath and eventually toppling the regime of President Hafez Assad. The mullahs knew that only Syria could prevent a unified Arab bloc to back Saddam.

The mullahs had to pay for Syrian support in the form of cut-price oil and an annual cash handout of $150 million. In 1982 the two furthered their alliance by sponsoring the Lebanese branch of Hizbullah.

All along, however, the Syrians were careful not to be totally hooked to the Iranian strategy. Hafez Assad insisted on meeting every American president and maintained close contact with Washington. He was also ruthless when it came to Islamist tendencies, even if that meant massacring thousands of people. Even in Lebanon, Assad did not put all his eggs in the Iranian basket and insisted on having his own Shi’ite outlet in the form of Nabih Berri’s Amal movement.

To underline their difference, the Syrians also made a number of small but significant gestures. For example, they refused Iranian demands that women be kept out of official ceremonies attended by visiting Khomeinist dignitaries, or that no alcohol be served on such occasions.

“Syria is Syria and Iran is Iran,” Syria’s then defense minister Mustafa Tlas told a reporter in 1986. “We cannot live like them and they cannot live like us. But we can work together.”

Today, Tlas may well have much to worry about. For there are signs that the Islamic Republic is determined to export its ideology to Syria. Teheran believes that only an Islamicized Syria would be a dependable ally in driving the US out of the Middle East, wiping Israel off the map, and creating a new Islamic “superpower” with Iran as its “core component.”

According to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad secular anti-imperialism, including Ba’athism, has failed to halt the advance of the American “Great Satan.” Today, only militant Islamism can fill the gap left by the disintegration of the USSR and Communism as global challengers to “imperialist hegemony.”

TEHERAN STRATEGISTS, working on the assumption that Israel and the Islamic Republic will clash at some point, regard Lebanon and Syria as part of the Iranian glacis. It was to secure Lebanon and Syria as strategic assets that Teheran launched its plan for the “Fertile Crescent.”

The first phase of the plan consisted of an Iranian-sponsored campaign last year to cast suspicion on elements in the Syrian Ba’ath known for their opposition to Khomeinism.

Hundreds of Ba’athist cadres, including senior figures, were retired or driven into exile. Cadres with what is euphemistically called “better Islamic sensibilities” have taken their place.

Many of the new rising stars have some experience of Iran, having served there in diplomatic, military and intelligence capacities on behalf of their government.

In Syria today, having an “Iranian flavor” is as useful for an individual’s career as a Soviet one was in the old days.

President Bashar Assad’s purge of the party, the army and security services of secular elements has, in turn, increased his vulnerability to conspiracies by the excluded cadres. Some of those cadres have formed alliances with the regime’s Sunni fundamentalist and democratic opponents. That, in turn, has increased Assad’s reliance on Iranian security and the Lebanese branch of Hizbullah. Sources in Damascus claim that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the Hizbullah have assigned special units to protect Assad, if and when he is threatened by domestic enemies.

Teheran has also succeeded in killing what Dr. Hassan Abbasi, Ahmadinejad’s strategic guru, has called “the American temptation” in Damascus. That “temptation” came to the fore in 2003 when Assad surrounded himself with Western-educated technocrats and diplomats who wanted him to switch to the American side in the wake of regime change in Baghdad.

Since then, however, the Syrian officials branded by Abbasi as “Emrikazadeh” (struck by America) have been silenced or force to change tune. Teheran has successfully peddled the fear that Syria may be a target for American “regime change.”

ONE OTHER development has forced Syria closer to Iran: The murder of former Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri in 2005 destroyed bridges between Damascus and moderate Arab capitals. Today, hardly a single Arab regime is prepared to maintain friendly ties with Syria, let alone prop up the Assad regime. At one stroke Syria lost the annual stipend of $250 million that it had received from Saudi Arabia since 1991. The more isolated Syria becomes the more its leaders are forced to depend on Iranian power.

To protect himself against alleged US plans for “regime change,” Assad is leaning on the mullahs who also want to change his regime.

Last June Syria did what it had not done even during its alliance with the USSR, and signed a defense pact with the Islamic Republic.

The pact gives Iran direct access to the Syrian military at middle and senior levels, provides for joint staff conversations, harmonization of weapons systems and training, and military exercises. Under it, any attack on either partner would be regarded as an aggression against the other. One result of the pact has been a fourfold increase in the number of Iranian military and security personnel in Syria.

“Iran is trying to play the role that the Soviet Union played in Syria during the Cold War,” says a former member of Assad’s cabinet. “It is the regional big power and behaving like one.”

Several developments confirm that view:

• Iran has increased scholarships offered to Syrians, including for military training, from a mere 200 in 2001 to over 3,000 this year.

• Assad has lifted the ban on Syrians attending Islamic seminaries in Iran, allowing over 170 Syrians to attend seminaries in the Iranian holy city of Qom.

• The ban on Iranian cultural centers outside Damascus has been lifted. Iran has now set up 11 centers for Khomeinist indoctrination in Syrian cities including Aleppo and Latakiyah. By last September a total of 17,000 Syrians had enrolled in classes to learn Farsi and study the “philosophy of Imam Khomeini.”

• Iran is clearly flexing is economic muscle in Syria. Hundreds of Iranian companies, from banks to building contractors, are active in Syria, employing tens of thousands of people in a country hit by mass unemployment. This year the Islamic Republic is expected to become Syria’s second major trading partner, after the European Union.

• Syria has agreed to raise the number of Iranian pilgrims visiting the Zeynabiah Shi’ite holy shrine near Damascus from 150 to 1,000 a day. Critics claim that the pilgrimage is used as cover for the presence in Damascus of hundreds of Islamic Revolutionary Guard fighters at any given time.

• Iranian television and radio networks, broadcasting in Arabic, are now available in every Syrian home while other non-Syrian Arabic-language media are banned.

• Assad has granted 41 Iran-based charities permission to operate in Syria. These use the models of Hizbullah and Hamas by providing services such as clinics, schools, interest-free loan agencies and grants for weddings.

• Women who agree to wear Khomeinist-style hijabs and men who grow Khomeinist-style beards receive cash gifts and preferential treatment in getting jobs with hundreds of Iranian companies operating in Syria. Visitors to Syria would be struck by the massive rise in the number of young women and men trying to confirm to the Khomeinist “look.”

• Syria has also lifted the ban on Shi’ite proselytization, allowing hundreds of Iranian mullahs to convert Syrian Sunnis to Shi’ism. There are also reports of mass conversions of members of Assad’s own Alawite sect to Iranian duodecimain Shi’ism. Traditionally, Iranian Shi’ism considered the Alawites as heterodox because of esoteric elements in their theology. Last year, however, two ayatollahs of Qom with ties to the Khomeinist regime declared he Alawites part of the Muslim ummah, and authorized “theological exchanges” with them, opening the path for attempts at conversion.

• In Lebanon, Iran is trying to undermine Syria’s role by marginalizing Amal and establishing direct contact with the Christian bloc led by ex-general Michel Aoun. Teheran wants Berri and Aoun to put themselves under the banner of a front led by Hizbullah.

Last summer’s war in Lebanon that ended with Israel’s “greatest defeat,” according to Iran, has strengthened the supporters of a Damascus-Teheran axis within the Syrian leadership.

The Assad regime is the typical Arab set-up that cannot survive without the backing of an outside power. For a brief moment in 2003 and 2004 it looked as if the US could provide that backing. Since then, Assad has been left with no option but putting himself under Iranian protection. And that, in turn, makes a showdown between the US and the Islamic Republic that much more possible.

Arab Nations Running Scared of Iran in the Middle East!

I have long listed three of the Arab nations given in the Jerusalem Post article, which follows the Scriptures, as being toes and horns on Daniel’s statue and horns on the Revelation beast. This is a Supplement to our Blog of October 24, titled “Saudis are getting worried.”

Middle East Arab countries have a choice of joining Iran or preparing to defend against her by obtaining deterrent nuclear capability.

The prophetic noose of a Middle E

ast war is slowly encircling and tightening around a great area enclosed by a line from Morocco to Turkey to Afghanistan to the United Arab Emirates to Sudan to Morocco. Whether the world believes the prophecies of the Bible or not, the dire end time prophecies of what is known as the time when “the fullness of the Gentiles” is fulfilled, will soon begin. As you well know, my guesstimate of the beginning of the attack again Israel, which begins the final three and one-half years of great tribulation before the Second Advent of Christ, is at some point in time between 2008 and 2012.

The Middle East events of the last two years have reinforced the likelihood of my guess being correct.

I expect ten of the Arab nations within the aforementioned prophetic noose to join Iran and Syria in the final attack against Israel, which begins some three and one-half years before the final battle of Armageddon. The great statue of Daniel 2 once stood in the midst of this prophetic noose in what became the southern flank of the Roman Empire.

Daniel 2:42-44 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. [44] And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces

The kingdom of Daniel 2:44 that will consume all these kingdoms is the same kingdom of Revelation 11:15, and the kingdom of Daniel 7:27.

Revelations 11:15 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (See Archive Prophecy Updates 73D, 74A, and 144A)

Daniel 7:24-27 – And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first,

and he shall subdue three kings. [25] And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

[26] But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. Report: IAEA to help Arabs go Nuclear

Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are all seeking nuclear technology, the British newspaper The Times reported Saturday morning.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the countries involved claimed they were only interested in building civilian nuclear energy programs, a goal which is permitted under international law.

“Some Middle East states, including Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Saudi Arabia, have shown initial interest [in using] nuclear power primarily for desalination purposes,” Tomihiro Taniguch, the deputy director-general of the IAEA, told the business weekly Middle East Economic Digest. He also added that after preliminary discussions with the governments, the IAEA would offer its support in helping to build the power plants, The Times reported.

Mark Fitzpatrick, an expert on nuclear proliferation at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, pointed to Iran as sparking the sudden rush for nuclear technology.

“If Iran was not on the path to a nuclear weapons capability you would probably not see this sudden rush [in the Arab world],” The Times quoted him as saying.

While Egypt and other North African states can justify the technology as necessary in the face of high oil prices, others, such as Saudia Arabia, will have a more difficult time defending their decision.

In addition to owning healthy reserves of oil, Saudi Prince

Saud al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister, told The Times earlier this year that his country was opposed to the spread of nuclear power and weapons in the Arab world.

A Lot of Sword Rattling with Show and Tell, but no War at this Time!

There is a lot of “look what I can do” going on in the Persian Gulf zone, but there will be no major conflict developing out of it. The allies began to “show their stuff” around Halloween, and their forces met on the first two days of November in the Persian Gulf.

Exclusive to DEBKAfile’s military sources: US aircraft carriers USS Eisenhower and USS Enterprise in the Red Sea off the Saudi Arabian coast

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower, accompanied by its carrier strike group, passed through the Suez Canal on Monday, Oct. 30, and arrived in the Red Sea on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the USS Eisenhower is at sea off the Saudi Arabian coast, together with another aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise. The presence of the two US aircraft carriers, and their accompanying strike groups, in a body of water as small as the Red Sea is an extraordinary development. So far there have been no indications that the USS Eisenhower arrived to replace the USS Enterprise.

US Intelligence director John Negroponte also is in the region.

He was in Saudi Arabia over the weekend and in Cairo on Tuesday, and is due to arrive in Israel on Wednesday, Nov.

1. With the arrival of the USS Eisenhower in the region, there are now three US aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters, including the USS Iwo Jima. Accompanying the USS Eisenhower are the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio, the guided-missile destroyers USS Ramage, and USS Mason and the nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine USS Newport.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that a fourth US aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer, will arrive on the scene by the beginning of next week, together with its carrier strike group. The USS Boxer is currently taking part in joint US-Indian naval maneuvers, dubbed Malabar ’06, which include the landing of marines on beaches.

Iran set for Large-Scale Naval Exercise

Iran unexpectedly announced Wednesday that it would be holding military maneuvers in the Gulf this week, only days after US-led navies held exercises in the same waterway.

Iranian state television quoted the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Gen.

Yahya Rahim Safavi, as saying the 10-day maneuvers, named “Great Prophet,” would take place in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman, beginning Thursday.

“The war games are aimed at demonstrating the deterrent power of the guards against possible threats,” Safavi said.

Safavi stressed the drills were not a threat to neighboring countries, saying: “Our neighbors are our friends. The guards just want to prove that they are ready to resist any threatening situation.”

His announcement came two days after US-led warships finished a two-day maneuver in the Gulf, an exercise that Iran described as “adventurist.”

Iran said the six-nation drills would not improve security in the Gulf waters, through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil passes.

It also called on Gulf nations to set up their own regional security arrangements.

The US-led maneuvers focused on surveillance, with warships tracking a ship suspected of carrying components of illegal weapons. The nations that took part were Australia, Bahrain, Britain, France, Italy and the United States.

Iran regularly holds large maneuvers, often using them to test weapons developed by its arms industry.

On Wednesday, Safavi told state TV: “The guard’s air force will test fire the Shihab-3 (missile), equipped with cluster a warhead, in the war game.”

Iranian state-run television said Thursday the country had test-fired dozens of missiles, including the long-range

Shihab-3, during the first hours of new military maneuvers.

The report said the elite Revolutionary Guards also had launched several kinds of short-range missiles in a central desert area of Iran.

The newscaster did not elaborate about where the maneuvers were located. But earlier Wednesday, the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi, said the 10-day maneuvers, named “Great Prophet,” would take place in the Gulf, the Sea of Oman and several provinces of the country.

The Shihab-3 missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and is believed to have a range of more than 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles). It can reach Israel and US forces in the Middle East.

Safavi said the war games are aimed at demonstrating the deterrent power of the Guards against possible threats.

Iran test fires 3 new missiles in Gulf

Iran has successfully test fired three new models of missiles in the Persian Gulf, state TV reported Friday.

Television showed footage of the elite Revolutionary Guards firing the missiles from mobile launching pads on the shore, and from warships.

The three new types of missiles, named Noor, Kowsar, and Nasr, have a range of about 170 kilometers and were built for naval warfare, TV reported.

The weapons are “suitable for covering all the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian gulf and the sea of Oman” said Admiral Sardar Fadavi, the deputy navy chief of the Revolutionary Guard.

Some 20 percent of the world’s oil supply passes every day through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The Revolutionary Guards began maneuvers on Thursday, shortly after a US-led military exercise in the Gulf.

I do not believe this sword rattling will produce a widespread Middle East war until some point in time between 2008 and 2012. I do not believe the Arabs actually believe they can defeat Israel operating under the existing placement of foreign forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. I do expect the placement of foreign forces in the Middle East to change between 2008 and 2012, and the military capabilities of the Arab nations to greatly increase, which will cause them to be successful against Israel in a war for the first time since 1948.

I remember selling hundreds of pounds of scrap copper, aluminum, iron, and ot her

metals to the scrap dealer east of the old railroad depot, and to the chicken house alongside the railroad east of the bayou in Batesville, Arkansas. The Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor and I was entering my teens. The United States was buying all the scrap metals they could find, and by mowing lawns, picking blackberries, working at the stock yard auctions, hustling hamburgers and hot dogs at Vic William’s Concessions, and selling scrap metal, I bought my first Savage semiautomatic rifle, bicycle, movie tickets, popcorn, and ice cream bars.

Before December 7, 1941, when I had reached the ripe old age of 9,

the United States also sold billions of tons of scrap metals to Japan. It was indeed unfortunate that some of that scrap metal found its way back to us in ways that produced countless allied deaths.

The CIA deemed it would be advantageous for us in the cold war to help the forces of Osama bin Laden with military hardware of several types, including antiaircraft and antitank shoulder held missile launchers. It drove the Soviets out of Afghanistan, but later came back to haunt us,

Of course, no one could predict for sure our sales to the Japanese and help to Osama bin Laden would later produce unfavorable results for us, but, in the case of what we are doing for Fatah to help them defeat Hamas, it is predictable what will happen.

It is like helping Godzilla to defeat King Kong. Whoever wins won’t like you any better for having helped them after they win, and the loser will join with the victor in a much tighter bond of hate for the one they both despise. No matter what the U.S. does, Israel will end up facing both Godzilla and King Kong when the future attack is launched against her.

PA Offensive Capabilities Increasing, With US Help

Fatah terrorists are receiving US arms and training, while Hamas terrorists

are preparing missile and anti-tank divisions.

Speaking before the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday, the IDF Southern Command chief warned that the Palestinian Authority’s ruling Hamas organization is planning to establish missile and anti-tank units. The new units were decided upon in light of the lessons Hamas learned from the Hizbullah’s successes against Israel during the recent war in Lebanon,

the IDF commander explained.

“Hamas is establishing an organized division with a capability against tanks and with missiles that could reach threatening distances,” Major General Yoav Galant told the Knesset committee.

Anti-tank missiles caused about a third of the IDF casualties in Lebanon during the recent campaign against the Hizbullah. Military analysts, as well as Hamas propagandists and strategists, have noted that long-range missiles of the type used by Hizbullah deployed in Judea, Samaria and Gaza would place many Israeli strategic facilities in danger.

In an initiative presented as an effort to counter the growing strength and influence of Hamas, the United States has been arming and training a militia affiliated with the Fatah terrorist group, headed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The premise for the American support is that Fatah and Hamas are headed for a violent civil war, and the US prefers a Fatah victory.

According to security analyst Aluf Benn, American security coordinator General Keith Dayton appeared before representatives of the Quartet in London last week, presenting them with a program for training the PA’s presidential guard – Force 17, controlled by Abbas – using Egyptian, British and Jordanian instructors.

PA sources say the training by Americans started more than a month ago, at a compound near the Intercontinental Hotel in Jericho.

In the past, official PA militias were found to have used weapons provided by the US and Israel in terrorist attacks on Jewish targets.

Earlier this month, in an interview with WorldNetDaily’s Aaron Klein, a Force 17 terrorist implied that weapons supplied to Fatah from the United States would be transferred to the Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigades, which is recognized as a terrorist organization under US law.
