Micah 5:2 – But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

In order to comprehend the prophecies contained in the Psalms of David, one must understand it in the context of the New Testament.  When Jesus ministered to his own people in the Gospels, he was ministering to a people that had accepted the traditions taught apart from the Holy Word of God.  The people were looking for a conqueror like David who had, by the end of his long reign, established a material kingdom that reached its peak of material glory in the days of his famous son, King Solomon.  New Testament Israel had been taught their coming Messiah would be a direct descendant of David, and that he was coming to defeat all of Israel’s enemies, establishing a material kingdom much greater than the one of David’s time, which would last forever.  One of the Lord’s last statements to his captor, Pontius Pilate, shattered the traditional Messiah teaching that Israel had received from the Priests and Scribes.

John 18:36 – Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

He will indeed come as the Lion of Judah at his Second Advent, but he came as the Lamb of God, his only begotten Son, at his First Event, as David prophesied in Psalm 2:7 that Messiah would be God’s only begotten Son.  Messiah came as God’s Son in Bethlehem.

Psalm 2:7 – I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

In the same Psalm of David, God pictures him coming at his Second Advent as the Lion of Judah, which was what the Jews were expecting at his First Advent.

Psalm 2:8,9 – Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. [9] Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Christ has been waiting, as God’s Lamb of the First Advent, for the time when he will return as God’s Lion at his Second Advent, which is referred to in verse one of Psalm 110.

Psalm 110:1 – The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

The same aspect of the separation time between the two Advents is referred to several times in Scripture, as in Hebrews 1:13.

Hebrews 1:1-6,13 – God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; [3] Who being the brightness of HIS glory, and the express image of HIS person, and upholding all things by THE WORD of HIS power, when he had BY HIMSELF purged our SINS, SAT DOWN on the right hand of the Majesty on high; [4] Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. [5] For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? [6] And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. [13] But to which of the angels said he at any times, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

Psalm 110:1 – A Psalm of David – The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

The Lord Jesus Christ identifies himself as much more than the descendant, the son of David, when he asks the Pharisees two leading questions in Matthew 22:41-43.

Matthew 22:41-46 – While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, [42] Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. [43] He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, [44] The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? [45] If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? [46] And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Christ clearly identifies himself as not only the son of David, but as David’s Lord, making himself equal to God.  And, in Hebrews 10:12-14, Christ clearly pictures his everlasting priesthood that allows him to intercede for all sins forever.

Hebrews 10:12-14 – But this man, after he had offered ONE sacrifice for SINS FOREVER, sat down on the right hand of God; [13] From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. [14] For by ONE offering he hath perfected FOREVER them that are sanctified.

Daniel identified the Messiah as a man elevated to the throne of God, some 600 years before Jesus was born.

Daniel 7:13,14 – I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. [14] And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

This was the kingdom Messiah came to bring in, but he, along with his kingdom was rejected by Israel.

Matthew 4:17 – From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 6:33,34 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. [34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

That kingdom is coming with the King at his Second Advent.

Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be ONE Lord, and his name ONE.

There is only ONE GOD who has fulfilled the 3 offices of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Malachi 4:2,3 – But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. [3] And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts. [4] Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 

Ezekiel 37:24-26 – And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. [25] And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever. [26] Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

The temple of Ezekiel 40 to 48 will be built at the end of the battle of Armageddon and stand for almost 1000 years.  The kingdom will continue in the heaven age but there will be no stone temple in it.

Revelation 3:12,13 – Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. [13] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 21:22 – And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

The pillars of the church age will become the pillars in the house of God in the millennium. 

Galatians 2:9 – And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Teachings of Jesus just before he was arrested and then crucified

Part 1 addressed the answer to the first question “But the end is not by and by.” 

Question 2 shall be addressed in the meaning of “TOTE ELEGEN (THEN SAID HE)” in Luke 21:10.

So, having given them a partial answer to question one he will answer more completely later in the discourse, Jesus launches into his answer to question two.  How can I be sure Jesus starts a new discourse in the next verse?

Luke 21:9,10 – But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. [10] THEN SAID HE unto them, Nation shall RISE AGAINST nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

The English words “THEN SAID HE” are “TOTE ELEGEN.”  TOTE ELEGEN points to a new beginning in discourse, which has the effect of dissociating the repeated mention of the previous disturbances (From the Expositor’s Greek Testament, Volume 1, Edited by W. Robertson Nicoll, M.A., LL.D.)  Simply stated, it amounted to Jesus saying, now that I have told you what would precede the temple destruction, I will answer your second question, the question “And what shall be the sign of thy coming,” or “What things can we look for to let us know you are soon to establish your kingdom?”    

It is very tempting, and only natural, to assume that the “wars” predicted in Luke 21:9, and “Nation shall rise against Nation” in 21:10, are one and the same, but I assure you, that is not the case for three reasons.  First, to begin the new discourse, he says “TOTE ELEGEN.”  Secondly, he has just advised them not to use “wars and commotions” except for a sign the temple was about to be leveled.  And, last of all, because of the two Koine Greek words translated as “RISE” and “AGAINST.” 

The root word used for RISE is EGEIRO, and it means to come to life, to rise from sleep, or to come into existence.  It is used in the phrases taken from the following Scriptures.

Matthew 14:2 – He is RISEN from the dead.

Matthew 16:21 – And be RAISED again the third day.

Matthew 27:52 – And many bodies of the saints which slept AROSE. 

Matthew 27:63 – After three days I will RISE again.

Matthew 27:64 – He is RISEN from the dead.

Matthew 28:6 – He is not here: for he is RISEN, as he said.

Matthew 3:9 – God is able of these stones to RAISE up children unto Abraham.

The word used for AGAINST is EPI, and it simply means “UPON” or “ON.”  One of the first things I learned in seminary was the use of the Greek prepositions.  They were all placed in positions relative to a cube, and the position of EPI was “ON” or “UPON” the top pf the cube.  If a thing is “UPON” another thing, it is certainly resting “AGAINST” it, but the inference that the two objects are fighting “AGAINST” one another is not valid.  EPI in the New Testament in the accusative is translated as UPON or ON some 219 times, as opposed to 33 times for AGAINST.  Jesus would not advise them to disregard wars as a sign of his coming in one breath, and then tell them to do the opposite in the next, and indeed he did not, because he used TOTE ELEGEN to mark the beginning of a new discourse

He is answering the second question in verse 10, and advises that shortly before his second coming many new nations would come to life, rising one upon another, ever increasing in number.  Before the Great War I, the world consisted of vast colonial empires, and very few individual nations existed.

Shortly before World War II, and much more rapidly after Japan’s surrender, new nations began to come to life like weeds across the earth, rising in number one upon another with the end of the colonial empires.  When the United Nations began in 1945, some 51 nations became charter members. By 1989, as new nations were born one upon another, it had more than tripled to 160, and now the number of nations on the earth has reached 200.  False Messiahs rose before Jesus, were here in the lifetime of Jesus, and have been numerous up to the present.  There have been many that presented themselves to the nation of Israel since the crucifixion.  I realize that in the last days they are to increase in number, but they have always been with us.  Also, the worldwide wars and commotions reached an all time record high of 25 in 1987, but have steadily declined since the sudden drop in communist influence in developing countries since the Soviet Union. I tracked war declines yearly until 1993, at which time worldwide wars had declined to 10, but the number of nations had been steadily increasing since the end of World War I, The Russian influence has grown steadily in the Middle East since Obama became US President, and especially since Putin returned to the office as President of Russia.

Luke 21:10-12 – THEN SAID HE unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: [11] And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. [12] BUT BEFORE ALL THESE, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.

God created the hydrological water cycle and, when he desires, will intervene in elements associated with its operation, such that it fulfills his prophecies.

Acts 14:15 – And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

James 5:17,18 – Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. [18] And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

I Kings 18:41-46 – And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. [42] So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. [4] These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. [5] And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. [6] These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. [7] And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

ARCHIVE EXPOSITION OF THE TWO WITNESSES – PART 9

The abilities of the two witnesses, to carry out the work they have been given the authority to accomplish by the testimony of God, is outlined in Revelation 11:5,6.  Please bear in mind that these abilities, according to the Greek text, does not necessarily infer that they will use them.  It simply states they have the abilities and authority to use them, if they so desire.  The President of the U.S. has the authority and ability to unleash atomic weapons, but he may never choose to do so.  It is the fact that he has both the authority, and the ability, to do so, which has kept our enemies from launching them against us.

Revelation 11:5 – And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Kenneth Wuest’s translation of this verse gives the best understanding I have yet encountered.

Revelation 11:5 – And if, as is the case, anyone desires to injure them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and indeed consumes their enemies.  And if, as is the case, anyone shall desire to injure them, it is a necessity that in this manner, in the nature of the case, for him to be killed.

The “fire” coming out of their mouth, used as a figure in the Old Testament as “fire” coming out from the lips of a prophet, does not mean literal fire will flow from their lips like a circus flamethrower.  I believe this “fire” used in Revelation 12:5 is of the same character as the “fire” from the mouth of Jeremiah the prophet.

It refers to the word of God from their mouths foretelling what terrible fire is to come down upon the enemies of Israel.

Jeremiah 5:14 – Wherefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Jeremiah 23:28,29 – The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord. [29] Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

I rather suspect the two witnesses, as prophets located in the Negev with Israel, will be warning their enemies that if they launch weapons of fiery mass destruction again Israel, they will do the same to them.  The brimstone and fire that comes down so often from heaven, following the sixth seal, is an unleashing of natural phenomena by God from His creation, and this is the 1260 day period of the testimony of the two witnesses before Armageddon.  The two witnesses will, at times, ask God to produce volcanic eruptions in specific areas in response to the actions of Israel’s enemies.

Revelation 11:6 – These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

James 5:17-18 – Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. [18] And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Just as it was absolutely necessary for Jesus and His first disciples to perform miracles to show they were from the God of Israel so will it be necessary for the two witnesses to do the same to prove they come from the same God.  The happenings of verses five and six are limited to 1260 days, according to verse three, so the elimination of rain from the atmosphere will happen in this time period.  I suspect the rain will be stopped from Dan to Beersheba, where the armies of Antichrist will be located.  However, it may be stopped over the entire earth, or in many selected areas.  Also, the future plagues are likely to be made up of earthquakes, famine, and pestilence.  It appears God will advise the two witnesses before these plagues occur, then they will pass it on as His word to the occupants of the world.  The miracles listed in verse six were actually performed by Moses and Elijah during their lifetimes. In the vast majority of miracles performed by Moses and Elijah, God let them know beforehand what was going to be done to their enemies, and they went and told them the word God had given them.  Although some of these things may be as often as “they will,” I suspect most of them will be announcements of what God has already told us in his Word what he is about to do.

I do not believe it was intentional, but as a novice President, he has been used to pave the way for the final Middle East war to begin after he leaves office.  He is a novice left wing  extremist, whose foreign policy has made our government the laughing stock of both friends and foes in the international community.

He has hung Israel out to dry in a thunderstorm, and the only help he will supply Israel will be in the form of weapons and a protective nuclear umbrella.

I Thessalonians 4:16 – For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Matthew 24:32-33 – Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: [33] So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is NEAR, even at the DOORS.

I cannot tell you the hour, week, month, season, or year of the rapture, but I will advise you it is near, even at the doors, and whatever you intend to do about, with, or for the Lord, you had better do it now.

Iran already has the infrastructure, raw materials, scientific know-how, manpower, resources and now, new trading partners and cash, to become a nuclear power virtually at the drop of a hat.

Possessing a military nuclear capacity is a cornerstone of this Iranian regime’s thinking. They have starved their country and invested billions to get it. They want it for reasons of regional dominance, control of the Gulf and, primarily, to negate the world’s ability to tell it what to do. It gives them deterrence, incredible leverage on the international stage, and strategic parity with the world powers.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was at the table when Iran decided to go nuclear and has navigated the process ever since. Khamenei will not throw his baby into the fire, of that you can be absolutely sure. He will do everything he can to save it, even if requires a bit of duplicity along the way.

If a final agreement is not reached within the six-month deadline, there will almost surely be an extension to “allow diplomacy to take its course.” Then there will be another extension, and another. The Geneva deal has relieved the economic stranglehold on Iran; it has made a mockery of UN Security Council resolutions, and, above all, it has left Khamenei with a nuclear option that is as easy to unfreeze as a TV dinner in a microwave.

GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL PROMISE TO ABRAHAM

Genesis 15:3-5 – And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. [4] And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. Exodus 6:1-8 – Then the Lord said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land. The term Amorites is used in the Bible to refer to certain highland mountaineers who inhabited the land of Canaan, described in Genesis 10:16 as descendants of Canaan, son of Ham. They are described as a powerful people of great stature “like the height of the cedars,” (Amos 2:9) who had occupied the land east and west of the Jordan. The height and strength mentioned in Amos 2:9 has led some Christian scholars, including Orville J. Nave, who wrote the classic Nave’s Topical Bible to refer to the Amorites as “giants.”^[7]

The Amorite king, Og, was described as the last “of the remnant of the Rephaim” (Deut. 3:11). The terms Amorite and Canaanite seem to be used more or less interchangeably, Canaan being more general and Amorite a specific component among the Canaanites who inhabited the land.

The Biblical Amorites seem to have originally occupied the region stretching from the heights west of the Dead Sea (Gen. 14:7) to Hebron (13:8; Deut. 3:8; 4:46-48), embracing “all Gilead and all Bashan” (Deut. 3:10), with the Jordan valley on the east of the river (4:49), the land of the “two kings of the Amorites,” Sihon and Og (Deut. 31:4; Josh. 2:10; 9:10). Both Sihon and Og were independent kings. These Amorites seem to have been linked to the Jerusalem region, and the Jebusites may have been a subgroup of them. The southern slopes of the mountains of Judea are called the “mount of the Amorites” (Deut. 1:7, 19, 20)

Five kings of the Amorites were first defeated with great slaughter by Joshua (10:10). Then more Amorite kings were defeated at the waters of Merom by Joshua (Josh. 11:8). It is mentioned that in the days of Samuel, there was peace between them and the Israelites (1 Sam. 7:14). The Gibeonites were said to be their descendants, being an offshoot of the Amorites that made a covenant with the Hebrews; when Saul would break that vow and kill some of the Gibeonites, God sent a famine to Israel.

GOD WILL JUDGE WICKED UNBELIEVERS BY FIRE TURNING FLESH TO DUST
