Daniel 11:40-42 – And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. [41] He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. [42] He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

Lavrov to confirm Russian air defense system, surface missiles for Egypt, Russian Navy facilities at Alexandria

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

November 12, 2013, 5:18 PM (IDT)

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu start a two-day visit to Cairo Wednesday, Nov. 13, to wind up a major sale of advanced Russian weaponry for the Egyptian army and the Russian Navy’s access to port facilities on the Mediterranean.

DEBKAile’s military sources, which first revealed the coming transactions in the last week of October, now amplify that report by disclosing that Moscow has agreed to equip Egypt with a sophisticated combined double-layered system which covers both its defensive and offensive requirements.

1. The first layer will provide a shield against attack by stealth aircraft, drones and cruise missiles for all of Egypt’s airspace, including the Suez Canal, the Red Sea and its coastal waters, up to the central Mediterranean. Our military sources add that part of the system will be positioned in eastern Egypt for the protection of key Saudi cities as well.

2. The second layer will be built around sophisticated surface missiles with ranges that cover all points in the Middle East including Iran. Moscow and Cairo are keeping the types of missiles secret.

Saudi Arabia is putting up the estimated $4 billion to pay for the transaction.
The Russian delegation will include the first deputy director of the Federal Service on Military-Technical Cooperation, Andrei Boitsov, and officials from state-arms exporter Rosoboronexport.

Egyptian officials continued Tuesday to deny reports that a Russian naval base would be established in an Egyptian port as “illogical,” saying it would “undermine the country’s independence and sovereignty.”

However, according to our sources, planning is already underway for the deployment of some 1,500 Russian military personnel in Egypt to have the new missiles up and running and local personnel trained in their use by mid-2014. A similar number of Russian naval and marine servicemen have been assigned to setting up the naval base, most probably in Alexandria.

We have learned that the visiting Russian ministers and Egypt’s rulers will also discuss permission for Russian warships to dock in Egypt’s Red Sea waters opposite the Saudi coast.

Several thousand Russian military personnel will therefore soon be deployed in Egypt, 42 years after the entire body of Russian “military advisers” was expelled from the country by President Anwar Sadat.

The visit to Egypt by Lavrov and Gen. Shoigu was heralded at the port of Alexandria by the arrival of the Soviet Pacific Fleet flagship, the guided missile cruiser Varyag. Egyptian Navy commanders greeted the ship with unusual honor, including a gun salute. Varyag will remain in the Egyptian port for the duration of the Russian ministers’ stay.

When US Secretary of State John Kerry visited Cairo on Nov. 3, he tried to induce Defense Minister Gen. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to call off the arms deal with Russia by offering to restore in full the $1.3 billion US military aid package which the Obama administration left hanging after the coup which deposed Mohamed Morsi as president in July.

Gen. El-Sisi replied that Cairo does not intend severing its military ties with Washington and would prefer to continue to receive American airplanes and tanks, but will also be glad to take delivery of advanced Russian weapons which the US has withheld from Egypt.

U.S. Umbrella Insures A Conventional War!

I have taught for 30+ years – No Nuclear War,

The next Middle East War will be Conventional,

Russia & China provide a nuclear umbrella to Iran,

While America provides a nuclear umbrella to Israel,

Allowing Islamic & Israeli forces A conventional War!

10 Horns Attack Israel 1260 days Before Armageddon,

Russia, China, & Europe arrive at the Armageddon Battle!

All Oceans and seas will be filled with ships and Submarines,

With Atomic umbrella capabilities via a Few Gentile Countries,

This Nuclear umbrella will be in place as it was in old Cold War,

Such that Daniel’s 10 Horns and Israel will fight Non-nuclear War,

Non-Arab or Non-Jew troops won’t Directly fight till Armageddon!

Obama to offer Israel ‘nuclear umbrella’ against Iranian nuke attack

 By Aluf Benn, Haaretz Correspondent

 December 11, 2008

The U.S. will offer Israel a “nuclear umbrella” against the threat of a nuclear attack by Iran. The U.S. will declare that an attack on Israel by Tehran would result in a devastating U.S. nuclear response against Iran.

But America’s nuclear guarantee to Israel could also be interpreted as a sign the U.S. believes Iran will eventually acquire nuclear arms.

Secretary of state-designate Hillary Clinton had raised the idea of a nuclear guarantee to Israel during her campaign for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidency. During a debate with Obama in April, Clinton said that Israel and Arab countries must be given “deterrent backing.” She added, “Iran must know that an attack on Israel will draw a massive response.”

Clinton also proposed that the American nuclear umbrella be extended to other countries in the region, like Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, if they agree to relinquish their own nuclear ambitions.

According to the same source, the nuclear guarantee would be backed by a new and improved Israeli anti-ballistic missile system. The Bush administration took the first step by deploying an early-warning radar system in the Negev, which hones the ability to detect Iranian ballistic missiles.

Matthew 23:37-39 – O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! [38] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. [39] For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Isaiah 26:20 to 27:1 – Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. [21] For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.   [27] In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Nothing Like It in Human History

Hillel Halkin

There’s been nothing like it in human history. A small and ancient people loses its land and forgets how to speak its language; wanders defenselessly for hundreds, thousands, of years throughout the world with its God and its sacred books; meets with persecution, violence, dispossession, banishment, mass murder; refuses to give up; refuses to surrender its faith; continues to believe that it will one day be restored to the land it lost; manages in the end, by dint of its own efforts, against all odds, to gather itself from the four corners of the earth and return to that land; learns again to speak the language of its old books; learns again to bear arms and defend itself; wrests its new-old home from the people who had replaced it; entrenches itself; builds; fructifies; fortifies; repulses the enemies surrounding it; grows and prospers in the face of all threats. 75 Years after Kristallnacht

Daniel Heiman was just shy of 12 years old when the Nazis broke into the building in Nuremburg where he lived with his family. They destroyed his aunt’s home. They threw a neighbor out the window to his death.

The family had lived in Germany at least 200 years. Many served as officers in the German army in World War I including his father Max and uncle Leopold, who lost an arm. Another uncle, a pilot in the German air force, fell in the war. All Heiman’s uncles were arrested on Kristallnacht and taken to the Dachau concentration camp. (Ha’aretz)

The old man was recalling Kristallnacht, a Nazi-instigated overnight rampage in which some 1,000 synagogues and 7,000 Jewish-owned businesses were destroyed in Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. At least 91 Jews were killed. Instead of arresting the perpetrators, the Nazis rounded up 30,000 Jews and sent them to concentration camps. The night of Nov. 9, 1938, marked the Nazis’ transition from discrimination to genocide. (Los Angeles Times)

How Iran Is Winning the War of Words

Emily B. Landau

(Ha’aretz)

Iranian spokesmen incessantly repeat certain messages until they begin to sound like accepted common knowledge. This tactic has been employed regarding statements that Iran has an “inalienable right” to enrich uranium; that the international community accuses Iran of working on a military program but has never come up with evidence to support this; that Iran has answered all outstanding questions to the satisfaction of the IAEA; and that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.

These statements are either untrue or only partially true, but by incessantly repeating them, Iran intends to make them sound absolutely true.

When demands are directed at Iran, Iran simply turns them around and fires them right back at the international community. So, if the international community says it needs to have confidence in Iran, Iran says it needs to have confidence in the international community. And if Iran needs to show its seriousness in the negotiation, Iran says the international community must demonstrate that it is serious.

Iran violated its commitment to the international community not to work on a military nuclear program, leading to the imposition of sanctions. The negotiations should be about compelling Iran to return to its commitments. Yet today they appear to be about both sides having to make concessions, as if both sides are equally at fault.

Iran Is Offered Temporary Relief from Some Sanctions If It Freezes Uranium Enrichment

Joby Warrick and William Booth

A deal that would give Iran limited relief from economic sanctions in exchange for a temporary freeze of some of its nuclear activities was near completion Thursday, and Secretary of State John Kerry was preparing to fly to Geneva on Friday for an announcement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he understood “the Iranians are walking around very satisfied in Geneva, as well they should be, because they got everything and paid nothing. Everything they wanted. They wanted relief of sanctions after years of a grueling sanctions regime. They got that. They are paying nothing because they are not reducing in any way their nuclear enrichment capability….Israel is not obliged by this agreement, and Israel will do everything it needs to defend itself and the security of its people.”  (Washington Post)

Powers Seek “First-Step” Nuclear Deal with Iran in Geneva Talks

Justyna Pawlak and Fredrik Dahl

A senior aide to a U.S. senator briefed by the White House and State Department said Washington would offer to work with Iran in a six-month confidence-building period. During that time, Washington would offer Tehran relaxed restrictions on Iran’s funds held in overseas accounts. The Obama administration could also ease sanctions on trade in gold and petrochemicals.

In exchange, Iran would stop enriching uranium to 20% and convert its existing stockpile of 20% uranium to an oxide form suitable for processing into reactor fuel and take other measures to slow the program.

The aide said the concessions being sought would “neither freeze nor set back” Iran’s nuclear program and that the Senate would have to act immediately to impose further sanctions on Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister: Agreement on Nuclear Crisis Possible on Friday

An “understanding or agreement” on Iran’s nuclear program may be possible as soon as Friday, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday. “There won’t be a suspension of our enrichment program in its entirety,” Zarif said. “Iran suspended its entire enrichment program from 2003 to 2005. So we’ve tested that. And it didn’t produce positive results. We’re not going to test that again.”  (CNN)

Netanyahu Slams U.S. Offer on Iran Nukes

Josh Gerstein

During a meeting in Jerusalem Thursday with a visiting delegation of U.S. lawmakers, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the offer is a “grievous historic error” that could be “the deal of the century for Iran.”

Iran is essentially giving nothing and it’s getting all the air taken out – the air begins to be taken out of the pressure cooker that it took years to build in the sanctions regime. What we’re having today is a situation that Iran is giving up, at best, a few days of enrichment time, but the whole international regime’s sanctions policy has the air taken out of it.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed Thursday that the U.S. is proposing a limited and “easily reversible” easing of some economic sanctions, if Iran agrees to freeze its nuclear efforts. “There is no daylight between Israel and the United States, between the president and the prime minister, when it comes to the objective of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon,” Carney said. Netanyahu: Easing Pressure on Iran an Historic Mistake

At a strategic planning summit with Jewish leaders from abroad, Prime Minister Netanyahu said Thursday: “Israel understands that there are proposals on the table in Geneva today that would ease the pressure on Iran for concessions that are not concessions at all. This proposal would allow Iran to retain the capabilities to make nuclear weapons. Israel totally opposes these proposals. I believe that adopting them would be a mistake of historic proportions.”

“They must be rejected outright. The sanctions regime has brought the Iranian economy to the edge of the abyss and the P5+1 can compel Iran to fully dismantle its nuclear weapons program. This means ending all enrichment and stopping all work on the heavy water plutonium reactor. Anything less will make a peaceful solution less likely.”  (Prime Minister’s Office)

Defense Minister Ya’alon: Palestinian Claims Don’t End at the 1967 Lines – Mitch Ginsburg
Regarding the prospect of solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Thursday, “We are handling an open-ended and ongoing conflict, which from the Palestinian perspective does not end with the 1967 borders.” Depicting Palestinian society as unwaveringly attached to Sheikh Munis and Majdal – the Arab names for the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Ashkelon – and Palestinian youth as educated to believe that Akko and Haifa are Palestinian ports, he said, “There’s a situation here that does not have a solution now, but in the long term.”
“There are those who know and explain to us what the solution is, and they know how to reach it in a short period of time. There are some who say this conflict is only territorial, that it began in ’67 and will end along the ’67 lines, but I haven’t heard any Palestinian leadership, including [Abbas], say that it is willing to consider any territorial concession as an end to the conflict and a culmination of claims, and to recognize Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.”  (Times of Israel)

Kerry Blames Israel for Lack of Progress in Peace Talks

Raphael Ahren

On Thursday, we all got a much better look at what John Kerry really thinks about progress – and blame – in the new peace effort he worked so strenuously to revive. In a joint interview with Israel’s Channel 2 TV and the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation, Kerry basically blamed the Israeli government for stealing the Palestinians’ land.

Kerry seemed to place the blame for the failure to make rapid and major progress in negotiations overwhelmingly on Israel, with no acknowledgement of two intifadas, relentless anti-Israel incitement in the Palestinian territories, the Hamas takeover of Gaza and the constant rocket fire from the Strip.
In lamenting the IDF’s presence in the West Bank, Kerry positioned himself directly opposite Netanyahu, for whom an ongoing Israeli security presence in the Jordan Valley is a stated crucial condition for an agreement. He showed no evident concern over the danger of a Hamas takeover in the West Bank were the IDF to withdraw.

His line of thinking reflects much international conventional wisdom on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict – the assumption that Israel could attain peace with the Palestinians if only it wanted to, but that it just doesn’t want to enough. Many Israelis would counter that Israel cannot impose terms on a Palestinian leadership that still demands a “right of return” that would constitute suicide for the Jewish state.

Israel is only too aware of how easily the relative calm could deteriorate, and thus is wary of relinquishing territory to a Palestinian leadership that might not be in a position to retain power and honor any accord amid sweeping regional instability. (Times of Israel)

A Korean Ghost Lurks at U.S.-Iran Nuclear Talks

John Bolton

Are Iran and North Korea cooperating on their nuclear-weapons programs? If so, their efforts undermine, and may preclude, Barack Obama’s diplomatic attempts to address these threats separately. The issue is especially timely now as Mr. Obama’s negotiators rush to make a deal with Iran.

Back in North Korea, the Kim regime has been enriching uranium for more than a decade, as Washington concluded in 2002 and Pyongyang admitted shortly thereafter. The enrichment program significantly expanded in 2010, in full public view at Yongbyon, unlike earlier efforts which were concealed at a still-unknown location.

The U.S. and its allies clearly have significant gaps in their knowledge about nuclear cooperation between Iran and North Korea. But the implications of any such cooperation are profound. Given the closed nature of both rogue states, Washington is long overdue in increasing its relevant intelligence-collection efforts and re-examining whether Russia or China are also involved. How to Test Iran’s Strategy

Avner Golov

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would support an early agreement with the West only if Rouhani can reach a deal that will preserve Iranian nuclear capabilities. Otherwise, Khamenei might prefer to drag out the talks indefinitely before they are pronounced a failure, thereby further advancing Iran’s nuclear capabilities and reducing the threat of a Western assault on its nuclear infrastructure.

To test Iran’s strategy, the U.S. must shorten the timetable for reaching an agreement in order to create a final, comprehensive package deal that will resolve all the aspects of the Iranian nuclear issue. This will allow the West to determine whether the Iranians are dragging their feet or not. Confidence-building measures must be made conditional on significant concessions at the end of a short, predetermined period of time.

Sanctions against Iran must not be lifted until the implementation of the final agreement; removing them sooner could result in their collapse and the loss of the West’s principal leverage against Iran before the end of the talks. (Institute for National Security Studies-Tel Aviv University)

The Shape of an Iran Deal

David Ignatius

Israeli experts have insisted that Iran must show it doesn’t have “breakout” capability by mothballing centrifuges (especially the newer, more efficient models) and by refraining from bringing online a planned heavy-water nuclear reactor at Arak. Otherwise, say the Israelis, the Iranians could continue to creep closer to breakout capability under the cover of negotiations. (Washington Post)

Is Israel Doomed?

Aaron David Miller

Secretary of State John Kerry repeatedly talks about “last chances” for a two-state solution. This narrative assumes that if Israel makes the right choices, then a conflict-ending solution to the Palestinian issue and Israel’s acceptance in the region can be assured. And then everyone will live happily ever after.

But there’s another narrative too. That Israel, despite all the challenges it has confronted and the odds arrayed against it, has managed to cope, survive, and prosper. Political Zionism was always a defiance of history, and will continue to be. This narrative suggests that it’s a cruel and unforgiving world when it comes to Israelis and Jews.

It posits the notion that there are no truly happy endings, only imperfect ones: That ending the conflict with the Palestinians will be hard, if not impossible, to do; that at best only a temporary solution to the Iranian nuclear issue can be found (and even that could lead to military confrontation); and that the Arab world – far from turning into a land of functioning democracies – will be filled with dysfunction and uncertainty for many years to come. So, while Israel’s actions make a difference, solutions to all these problems may well prove elusive and imperfect, regardless of what Israel does or doesn’t do.

This line of thinking holds out the possibility that what’s in store for Israel is a difficult path of maneuver in a harsh world. But by no means is it a course that will lead to its ruin. The writer is vice president at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. (Foreign Policy)

Saudi Arabia’s Shadow War to Topple the Assad Regime

David Kenner

Saudi Arabia, having largely abandoned hope that the U.S. will spearhead international efforts to topple the Assad regime, is embarking on a major new effort to train Syrian rebel forces with the help of Pakistani instructors. Saudis described the effort as having two goals: toppling the Assad regime and weakening al-Qaeda-linked groups in Syria.

Carnegie Middle East Center fellow Yezid Sayigh first noted the use of Pakistani instructors, writing that the Saudis were planning to build a Syrian rebel army of roughly 40,000 to 50,000 soldiers. The effort relies on a network of Saudi allies in addition to Pakistan, such as Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and France. Sayigh wrote that Saudi Arabia is attempting to build “a new national army” for the rebels – a force with an “avowedly Sunni ideology.” In addition to its training program in Jordan, Saudi Arabia also helped organize the unification of 50 rebel brigades into “the Army of Islam” under the leadership of Zahran Alloush, a Salafist commander whose father is a Saudi-based cleric.

Saudi Arabia has given more aid to Pakistan than to any non-Arab country, according to former CIA officer Bruce Riedel, and also allegedly helped fund Islamabad’s nuclear program.
“The biggest problem facing the Saudis now is the same one facing the U.S., France, and anyone else interested in helping the rebels: the fragmentation of the rebels into groups fighting each other for local and regional dominance rather than cooperating to overthrow Assad,” said David Ottaway, a scholar at the Wilson Center. There’s a lot of wishful thinking going on as diplomats and politicians substitute advocacy for analysis.” It is clear that the regime is signaling “a change in tactics, not policy.”

Smuggling into Gaza by Sea on the Rise

At the top of the list of items smuggled are various types of weapons, such as rockets and firearms.

Islamic Mahdi Will Eventually Rise Within Greater Syria to Push Israel into the Negev Wilderness!

Mahdi Shall Eventually Rise from Greater Syria to Push Israel Into Negev

He will eventually unite Islam’s Sunni and Shiite with other Muslim Sects

Making a union of Clay and Iron that will hold together until Armageddon

Where Jesus defeats Antichrist Mahdi to establish his Kingdom for Saints

November 10, 2013

http://www.tribulationperiod.com/

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

At the battle of Armageddon most of the kings of the earth will come to join the antichrist in a final attempt to eradicate the nation of Israel.  Among them will be 10 nations representing the 10 Jihad toes of Daniel 2 that drove Israel into the Negev three and one-half years earlier.

Revelation 19:19 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Some three and one-half years before the final battle of Armageddon, which closes the tribulation period, ten kings from those nations out of the Umayadd Islamic Caliphate, which conquered the southern half of the ancient Roman Empire, will attack Israel from the north.

Daniel 2:42 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

II Thessalonians 2:3 – Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

The last evil kingdom of antichrist on this earth was to initially be comprised of 10 nations with 10 kings led by the man of sin himself.  It was to arise out of the ashes of the old Roman Empire.  I have always believed it would rise out of the southern half of the Empire and be made up of 10 Islamic nations.  I believe the elements for its formation are in place today, and I suspect that the most likely nations of which it will be comprised are Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran.  Some of these nations are strong like iron, and some are as soft and pliable as clay.  All of these present day nations currently occupy the land conquered from the southern half of ancient Roman Empire by Islam’s Umayyad Caliphate which followed Muhammad’s death.  The Umayyad Caliphate is slowly being resurrected from its 750 AD demise.

Begin Two Paragraph Quote from Wikipedia

The Umayyad Caliphate was the second of the four major Islamic caliphates established after the death of Muhammad. The caliphate was centered on the Umayyad dynasty “Sons of Umayya“), hailing from Mecca. The Umayyad family had first come to power under the third Caliph, Uthman ibn Affan (r. 644–656), but the Umayyad regime was founded by Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan, long-time governor of Syria, after the end of the First Muslim Civil War in 661 CE/41.  Syria remained the Umayyads’ main power base thereafter, and Damascus was their capital. The Umayyads continued the Muslim conquests, incorporating the Caucasus, Transoxiana, Sind, the Maghreb and the Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus) into the Muslim world. At its greatest extent, the Umayyad Caliphate covered 5.79 million square miles (15,000,000 km2), making it the largest empire the world had yet seen, and the fifth largest ever to exist.

At the same time, the Umayyad taxation and administrative practice were widely perceived as absolutist, oppressive and unjust, deviating from the precepts of Islam. Coupled with rivalries between the Arab tribes, their rule was plagued by unrest in the provinces outside Syria, most notably in the Second Muslim Civil War of 680–692 CE and the Berber Revolt of 740–743 CE. During the Second Civil War, leadership of the Umayyad clan shifted from the Sufyanid branch of the family to the Marwanid branch. As the constant campaigning exhausted the resources and manpower of the state, the Umayyads, weakened by the Third Muslim Civil War of 744–747 CE, were finally toppled by the Abbasid Revolution in 750 CE/132 AH. A branch of the family fled across North Africa to Al-Andalus, where they established the Caliphate of Córdoba, which lasted until 1031 before falling due to the Fitna of al-Ándalus

End Two Paragraph Quote from Wikipedia

INFORMATION I FIRST PUT UP DECEMBER 5, 2005 ON WEB SITE

Al-Mahdi – The Coming Islamic Imam Messiah

The major difference between the two sects of Sunni and Shiite, concerning the coming of their Messiah, the Al-Mahdi, is that the Sunnis believe he is yet to be born, while the Shiites believe he has been hiding in a cave for 1,100 plus years, but will soon come out to rule all Islam as the 12th Imam.  To the extreme sect of Shiite, the 12th Imam is Muhammad al Mahdi, who was born in 868 AD, and has been been waiting to come out of a cave for some 1137 years, from which he will suddenly appear and lead Islam to worldwide victory over all its enemies.  The list which follows contains the names of the 12 Imams.

Shia (Shiite) “Imams”

In the Shia context, Imam also has a meaning more central to belief.

The Shia believe that an Imam is someone that is able to lead mankind in all aspects of life. In addition they believe that an Imam is a perfect example in everything. According to Shia, an Imam is a leader that must be followed since he is appointed by Allah (GOD).

The Shia interpretation is that the Quran clearly says that only God can appoint an Imam and no one else has the power to designate one. The incident of Ghadeer-e-Khum is referenced as when Muhammad declared Ali as the leader of the community after him.

According to the Twelve-Imam Shiite, Imam is a divine status like Prophecy. A Prophet can also be an Imam but not all Prophets are Imams. Since Prophet Muhammad is the last Prophet, there could be no Prophets after him and so the 12 Imams are not Prophets but only Imams. These 12 Imams are as great in a sense as all the previous prophets except Prophet Muhammed who is the greatest of all. Following is a listing of the rightful successors of Muhammad, as recognized by (“Twelver”) Shias. Each Imam was the son of the previous Imam, except for Husayn who was the brother of Hasan. See Shia Imams for details.

(1) Ali ibn Abu Talib (600661)

(2) Hasan ibn Ali (625669)

(3) Husayn ibn Ali (626680)

(4) Ali ibn Husayn (658713), also known as Zainul Abideen

(5) Muhammad al Baqir (676743)

(6) Jafar as Sadiq (703765)

(7) Musa al Kazim (745799)

(8) Ali ar Rida (765818)

(9) Muhammad at Taqi (810835)

(10) Ali al Hadi (827868)

(11) Hasan al Askari (846874)

(12) Muhammad al Mahdi (868–?))

The Iranian President is a “died in the wool” religious Islamic fanatic from the top of his head to the tip of his toes.  The Apostle Paul was a “Hebrew of the Hebrews,” and President Ahmadinejad is truly a “Shiite of the Shiites.”   He is locked in combat with the old conservative heads that have run Iran since the revolution that overthrew the Shah of Iran.  He is trying to slip new leaders and departments into his new government.  He is trying to get younger key members of the extremists from his Revolutionary Guard into top positions of power, putting out the old leaders who have held power for so long over all governmental decisions.  It appears he has another revolution in mind, one in which he has absolute power to form a very radical Islamic Republic to replace the current conservative one.  I truly believe the religious extremism in the fanatical Shiite beliefs among their literal interpreters is going to unveil the antichrist among them.  Both the Sunni and Shiite sects of the Muslim faith believe in a coming Al-Mahdi, which we would relate to by our looking forward to the return of our Messiah, Jesus Christ.  The major difference between the two sects of Sunni and Shiite, concerning the coming of their Messiah, the Al-Mahdi, it that the Sunni believe he is yet to be born, while the Shiites believe he has been hiding in a cave for some 1,100 years, but will soon come out to rule all Islam as the 12th Imam.  Many of the local Imams across Iran and Iraq are preaching his coming is very soon, and a fever for his arrival is growing.

One segment of the Shiite faith believes the 12th Imam went into hiding in the 9th century.  The Sunni sect of Islam believes the Al-Mahdi, who is to arise and lead Islam to rule the world and establish a one-world Islamic religion, will be an ordinary man, born to an ordinary woman, and will live an ordinary life with the people of his time.  But the Shiites under the same persuasion of their current President, believe that soon the 12th Imam, who disappeared mysteriously in the 9th century, will suddenly appear to lead the Shiites to victory over all their enemies, starting with the hypocrite mullahs and ending with the Jews.  In the Shiite theology, believing in the Imams is the cornerstone of their faith.  They believe the 12th Imam has been living in a cave for more than ten centuries, and that he will suddenly surface from his hiding place as their Mahdi, their Messiah, and will meet Jesus, the Son of Mary.  They believe Jesus, the Prophet of Allah, will be second in command in that he will pray behind Al-Mahdi.  They believe Allah will give Al-Mahdi the ability to rule the Muslim nations with righteousness in the span of a night.

In the Shiite theology of the religious followers of the current President of Iran, the 12th Imam is still the sole source of legitimate power on the earth.  I suspect a man will suddenly arise in Islam claiming to be the 12th Imam.  He will declare himself to have returned with the power of Allah but, in reality, he will be the antichrist.  Islamic writers indicate the signs in the next paragraph will precede the 12th Imam.

There are many signs that will precede him, a very important sign is that he will come at a time when there is great confutation, intense disputing, and violent deaths – when people are experiencing great fear.  Calamities will fall upon people, so much that a man shall not find a shelter to shelter him self from oppression.  There will be battles and conflicts before his appearance.  The people will be troubled to such an extent that they will long for death.  It is then that Imam will arise.  The messenger of Allah said he will be sent at a time of intense disputes and differences among people amidst widespread earthquakes.

It may well be that Paul’s man of sin, the antichrist, is the coming Islamic Al Mahdi.

II Thessalonians 2:4 – Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Al-Mahdi – The Coming Islamic Imam Messiah

I do not question that in the final battle of Armageddon the descendants of Ham, Shem, and Japheth will be combatants against the nation of Israel.  But I have always contended, along with the Bible expositors of the 18th and 19th centuries, that the antichrist’s initial attack would be led by Arab descendants of Abraham.  They are the mingled seed of his oldest son Ishmael with the seed of the six sons he sired by Keturah, as well as some of the other offspring of his own father Terah.  The empire of the antichrist will be an Islamic empire that eventually takes into it other old world nations.  And, in the final great battle of Armageddon, all those nations that made up the world as it was known in A.D. 95 will come against Israel, such that Japheth, Ham, and Shem’s descendants will also be involved.

Daniel 2:41-43 – And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. [42] And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

The 10 toes will consist primarily of Terah’s descendants.  Abraham came out of Terah.  Out of Abraham came the leaders of the three great monotheistic faiths associated with Moses, Jesus, and Mohammad.  And they have always been in conflict.

The inspired word in Daniel 2:43, from which the word “mingled” comes, is ARAB, which means “to interlace or mix.”  The “seed of men” refers to non-descendants of the man Abraham, from which both Jews and Arabs descended.

“They” refers to the 10 toes of Daniel’s statue in Daniel 2:42, which have 10 kings over them.  Isaac, the father of Israel, had seven half brothers – Ishmael from Hagar and the six sons of Keturah.  It was from these seven half brothers that the Arab world has been primarily created. The descendants of Israel have been more likely to marry within the blood line of the man Israel than have the Arabs to marry within their separate bloodlines of Hagar and Keturah, and the Arabs have also intermingled with non-descendants of Abraham more than have the Jews.

Daniel 2:43 – And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

Just as iron and clay do not hold together very long, the 10 Arab nations will only hold together long enough to fulfill God’s end time tribulation period prophecies. The saved will be caught up on the sounding of the seventh trump to be judged in heaven, and the kingdom of God will all be united in heaven, waiting to return to earth with Christ at his Second Advent.

Revelation 11:15 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Daniel 2:44 – And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

The God of heaven will call all the saved of all the ages together in heaven during the “days of these kings,” and will initially “set up” his kingdom, from whence he will return to earth with it as its head, after the saved have been judged in heaven.  Christ’s coming kingdom will “break in pieces and consume all the kingdoms” of the present world, and his kingdom alone will rule.

Revelation 11:15-18 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. [16] And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, [17] Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. [18] And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Christ, the stone, came from the mountain representing God, without any human instrumentation, but by God’s Spirit forming his body in a virgin’s womb.  Christ will return to destroy those morally destroying the earth.  All of the evil that came out of the Babylonian, Medo- Persian, Macedonian, and Roman Empires will be laid waste by his Second Advent.

Daniel 2:45 – Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

The Scriptures which follow describe the coming of the great Stone, the great Rock, coming with his kingdom.

Revelation 19:11-18 – And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. [17] And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; [18] That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

Daniel 2:44 – And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Revelation 19:19,20 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Revelation 16:15,16 – Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. [16] And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Jude 23 – And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Revelation 3:2-4 – Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. [3] Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. [4] Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Revelation 19:7-9 – Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. [8] And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. [9] And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Micah 4:7 – And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.

Relief Aid for Syrians Going to Regime Loyalists

Razan Zeitoune

(Now-Lebanon)

In Syria, when a regime official calls the local Red Crescent chapter and asks for food rations, local aid workers cannot deny this request.

In many cases, regime officials pressure families benefiting from aid into giving information about rebels as a precondition for allowing aid deliveries to continue.

Frequently, relief supplies are sold at cheap prices to people who are loyal to the regime.

In addition, corruption and favoritism rule the relief distribution process. A sizeable portion of those who receive aid are not needy: their names are on the lists because they are related to some official or due to their security and military ties.

Those in charge of relief operations say they are buying the good will of the security services in order to allow a portion of aid to make it to those actually in need.

Are international organizations aware of how much aid is being cashed in by the Assad regime and its loyalists?

Palestinian Authority: Balfour Declaration a Crime against Humanity

Mohammed Mar’i

(Saudi Gazette)

The Palestinian Authority (PA) on Saturday said that the Balfour Declaration that paved the way for the creation of Israel in 1948 “is a crime against humanity.”

On Nov. 2, 1917, British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour announced that his government views “with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people,” laying the foundation for the creation of Israel more than 30 years later.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement called upon Britain to apologize and make amends for the crimes committed against Palestine because of the declaration.

Al-Qaeda-Linked Group Strengthens Hold in Northern Syria

Gul Tuysuz, Raja Razek, and Nick Paton Walsh

(CNN)

A CNN survey of towns, activists and analysts reveals an alarming increase in al-Qaeda-linked control over large swathes of Syria’s rebel-held north in the past month.

Militants known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are the predominant military force in northern Syria.

Charles Lister, analyst at IHS Jane’s Terrorism and Insurgency Center, said: “Although not a numerically dominant force, ISIS is playing an increasingly pre-eminent role in the northern Syrian insurgency. Much of this is a result of its capability to exploit superior levels of financing and resources.”

Egypt Rejecting Refugees from Syria

Jasmin Fritzsche

(Carnegie Endowment for International Peace)

Within the last four months, hundreds of Syrian and Palestinian refugees fleeing the conflict in Syria have been rejected at Cairo Airport, while others already residing in Egypt face ongoing threat of deportation and detention in poor conditions.

Along with a revival of Egyptian nationalism, the government and other loyal institutions have been creating the image of Syrians and Palestinians as being crucially involved in – and interfering with – Egypt’s political situation by supporting Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.  As the Muslim Brotherhood is portrayed as a foreign-led, “non-Egyptian” entity, Palestinian and Syrian refugees are, in turn, demonized and viewed as a national security threat.

City of Jerusalem will Never be Divided Again After the 2nd Advent!

Friday, November 8th, 2013

The City of Jerusalem Since 1967 War Has Been a “Unified City”

November 9, 2013

http://www.tribulationperiod.com/

City of Jerusalem will Fall to Islam Before the First Resurrection

Zechariah 14:1,2 – Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. [2] For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Islam will control Jerusalem under foot for forty and two Months

Revelation 11:2 –  But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Israel will again Conquer Jerusalem at 2nd Advent of Jesus Christ

Zechariah 12:5-14 – And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of hosts their God.  [6] In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem. [7] The Lord also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. [8] In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them.  [9] And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. [10] And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. [11] In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. [12] And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; [13] The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart; [14] All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.

City of Jerusalem will never be divided Again after the 2nd Advent

Daniel 7:24-27 – And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. [25] And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. [26] But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. [27] And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Zechariah 14:8,9 – And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. [9] And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.

Jesus Christ will rule as earth’s king from Jerusalem for 1000 Years

Revelation 20:1,2 – And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. [2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

Then the Devil will be released from the Bottomless Pit to wage War

Revelation 20:3 – And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

God shall Destroy this great Demonic hoard with fire from his Person

Revelation 20:7-10 – And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, [8] And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. [9] And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. [10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The United States and the Indivisibility of Jerusalem

Shlomo Slonim

Jerusalem Post

The U.S. State Department has a favorite mantra: that Washington’s policy on Jerusalem has not changed since the status of the city arose as part of the Partition Plan in the Truman era. This is quite inaccurate.

The Nixon administration’s Rogers Plan for settling the Arab-Israeli dispute, while acknowledging a Jordanian interest in Jerusalem, also emphasized that Jerusalem should be “a unified city.”

Each successive administration recognized that Jerusalem was never to be divided again. While various presidents have adopted different attitudes to the question of the status of east Jerusalem – some implying that Israeli sovereignty extended there, and others denying such sovereignty – all adhered firmly to the position that the city must remain united.

For its part, the U.S. Congress has declared by concurrent resolution that it: “(1) acknowledges that Jerusalem is and should remain the capital of the State of Israel;” “(2) strongly believes that Jerusalem must remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic religious groups are protected.”

Israel has maintained that under international law Israeli sovereignty extends over Jerusalem in its entirety. The promoter of the Oslo accords, Shimon Peres, declared: “We are very adamant about our position. Jerusalem will not be redivided. It will not be a Berlin.”

Yitzhak Rabin stated categorically to the Knesset: “United Jerusalem will not be open to negotiation. It has been and will forever be the capital of the Jewish people, under Israeli sovereignty.”

II Timothy 3:1,13 – This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [13] But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Daniel 2:42 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

Ezekiel 38:3-7 – And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: [4] And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: [5] PERSIA, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: [6] Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. [7] Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

Gog is Ezekiel 38 Chief of Meshech & Tubal, Daniel 11:36 King, & Paul’s “Wicked”

Ezekiel 39:1 – Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

Daniel 11:36 – And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

II Thessalonians 2:8,9 – And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: [9] Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Report: US offers Iran deal allowing uranium enrichment

Telegraph reports deal aims to freeze Iran’s nuclear program for six months, give breathing space for negotiations. In return for freeze, US would ease sanctions. Iran’s FM Zarif: Believe agreement can be reached by Friday

America has proposed a short-term nuclear agreement with Iran at a meeting in Geneva which would allow Tehran to continue enriching uranium at low levels, according to an aide briefed on the talks, the British Telegraph reported Thursday.

The goal is to freeze Iran’s nuclear program for perhaps six months in order to create a breathing space for a comprehensive agreement to be negotiated.

Earlier Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that any deal which failed to stop Iran from enriching uranium would be a “mistake of historic proportions”.

Western diplomats and US officials have refused to disclose any details of a “first step agreement,” but a Senate aide, citing briefings from the White House, the State Department and sources in Geneva, told the Telegraph he understood that it would include four key points:

1. Iran would stop enriching uranium to the 20% level that is close to weapons-grade – and turn its existing stockpile of this material into harmless oxide.

2. Iran would continue enrichment to the 3.5% purity needed for nuclear power stations – but agree to limit the number of centrifuges being used for this purpose. There would, however, be no requirement to remove or disable any other centrifuges.

3. Iran would agree not to activate its plutonium reactor at Arak, which could provide another route to a nuclear weapons-capability, during the six-month period. Iran may, however, continue working on the facility.

4. Iran would agree not to use its more advanced IR-2 centrifuges, which can enrich uranium between three and five times faster than the older model.

In return, the US would ease economic sanctions, possibly by releasing some Iranian foreign exchange reserves currently held in frozen accounts. In addition, some restrictions affecting Iran’s petrochemical, motor and precious metals industries could be relaxed.

However, a senior administration official made clear that only “reversible” sanctions would be eased – and they could be re-imposed if Iran were to break any deal.

Edging toward agreement

Hopes of reaching a “first step” agreement of some kind were rising yesterday, with one Western diplomat in Geneva describing the talks as “lengthy, constructive and substantial”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told journalists that the “talks went well”, adding: “I’m hopeful that we can move forward. We are making progress, but it’s tough.”

Zarif said it was possible that an agreement could be reached at thiemeeting, which is expected to conclude on Friday.

However, an interim deal along the lines set out above would alarm Israel and Congressional hawks in Washington.

David Albright, the director of the Institute for Science and International Security, a think tank which monitors Iran’s nuclear ambitions, told the Telegraph that if Iran stopped enrichment to 20% purity and converted its existing stockpile, it would be “nowhere near enough” he . Any interim agreement would be also undermined if Iran was still able to manufacture centrifuges, including the old IR-1s and the more advanced IR-2Ms.

If so, Iran could then “emerge if the deal fell apart with several thousands IR-1s and IR-2Ms to be deployed rapidly in Natanz, and possibly even a third centrifuge plant,” Albright noted, adding: “I think it is quite reasonable to ask Iran to stop centrifuge manufacturing, but I’m not sure the US is going to go there.”

The Senate source gave warning that the deal as currently outlined “would neither freeze nor setback” the time Iran would need to “breakout” to make a nuclear weapon.

“Since Iran could advance its program to a point of undetectable breakout during the six-month confidence building period, the Senate will have to act immediately to protect America’s national security – and that means imposing further sanctions on Iran,” he said.

Congress is currently considering tough new sanctions on Iran. The White House has successfully lobbied for these to be put on hold pending the outcome of the Geneva talks.

A senior administration official said that further punishment of Iran’s economy could wreck the prospect of a settlement. “If there is only a 10% chance that additional sanctions would put at risk those negotiations – and quite frankly, we believe it’s higher than 10% – we all have an obligation not to take the risk,” said the official.
