Hundreds Die as Egyptian Forces Attack Islamist Protesters

David Kirkpatrick

Egyptian security officers stormed two encampments packed with supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday in an assault that killed hundreds and set off a violent backlash across Egypt. As President Adli Mansour declared a state of emergency, the Muslim Brotherhood called on Egyptians to rise up in protest.

Islamists attacked at least a dozen police stations around the country, according to the state news media, killing more than 40 police officers. They also lashed out at Coptic Christians, attacking or burning at least seven churches. The assault prompted the resignation of the interim vice president, Mohamed ElBaradei. (New York Times)

Egypt Cracks Down on Jihadi Sandbox in Sinai

Christa Case Bryant

The Egyptian military has a freer hand to crack down in Sinai after deposing President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood last month. “The Army for the longest time has been holding back from interfering in Sinai,” says Sameeh, a high-ranking security official in northern Sinai. “The elements in this area fear that they might lose this [strategic area] now that we have deployed more tanks and we’re putting more effort into clearing this area, so obviously they are going to fight back.”

Sinai militants killed 16 Egyptian soldiers in August 2012 near the Egyptian town of Rafah. “A year ago there were the killings in Rafah, and Morsi promised that he would get back at those people who killed those soldiers,” says Sameeh, the general, in a phone interview. “And nothing was ever done.”

Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which is also referred to as Ansar Jerusalem, is “the most important and dangerous” militant group operating in Sinai, says Maj. Aviv Oreg (res.), former head of the Al-Qaeda and Global Jihad desk in the Israel Defense Forces’ military intelligence branch. It consists mainly of local Bedouin but also some foreign jihadis and was behind last year’s Rafah attack on Egyptian soldiers, Oreg says. Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis has also claimed responsibility for at least three rocket attacks on Eilat over the past year.

Daniel Nisman of the Israel-based security consultancy firm Max Security Solutions says there are about 1,500 jihadists in Sinai, broken down into 15 to 20 cells with varying ideologies, some of which are in line with al-Qaeda. Oreg says he’s not aware of any formal al-Qaeda presence in Sinai, though some of the groups are in contact with al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, who is originally from Egypt. Israel keeps to sidelines as Mideast deteriorates into bloodshedAs Egypt’s death toll rises to 638, mysterious bombing hits Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold, Israeli defense official insists ‘Israel will continue in its non-involvement policy’

Attila Somfalvi

August 16, 2013

At the wake of violent days both in Beirut and Cairo, Israel maintains its reserved stance on the unrest at its borders.

“Hezbollah has been hurt, but Israel will continue in its non-involvement policy and will not take sides, also in regards to Cairo,” a senior defense establishment official clarified on Thursday.

“We’ve no interest to be perceived as supporters of either side.”

Against the backdrop of Hezbollah’s relative successes in the Syrian civil war as a supporter of Bashar Assad, the hit the Shiite group suffered in its own base – the Dahiyeh quarter in Beirut – came as a necessary backlash in the eyes of some in the Israeli defense echelon.

“Nasrallah significantly intervened in the Syrian war and is no longer perceived as ‘Lebanon’s protector,’ but as Assad’s man, and now he is paying the price,” said the same official.

Though Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman and other top Lebanese politicians pointed a finger at Israel for orchestrating the car bomb, a so far unknown Sunni group took responsibility for the attack, which claimed the lives of 20 people.

‘Hezbollah weakens, attacks will continue’

“Hezbollah and Nasrallah’s situation isn’t good,” a State official added. “Criticism against Hezbollah is growing in light of its involvement in Syria and the fighting seeping into Lebanese territory. Hezbollah is weakening and forecasts are that the attack against the organization will continue.”

Meanwhile, violence in Egypt has dropped on Thursday and the curfew has been limited – but top Muslim Brotherhood officials vowed that the movement will not desist and urged its followers to take back to the streets in protest after Friday’s prayer.

“We’ll protest across the country and shed the blood of any police and army officer in the streets,” a member of the Brotherhood’s political arm promised.

After US President Barack Obama’s announcement cancelling the joint drill with the Egyptian army, the Americans issued a travel alert for Egypt and urged its citizens staying in the country to leave it immediately.

Wednesday’s official death toll has so far risen to 638, and the number of wounded leaped to 3,994, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry.

Israeli interest – calm on all fronts

“We stay on the sideline as far as Cairo goes – this is an internal Egyptian matter,” said an Israeli source.

“Our interest is focused on the Sinai Peninsula, where global jihad operatives are. What’s happening in Egypt is troubling, but it’s internal. The fact they’re occupied with their own internal affairs so far had no effect on the war conducted in Sinai.”

He added that Israel was considering all the possible scenarios, including another regime shift. “No one knows what’s going to happen. It’s impossible to analyze.”

Ron Ben-Yishai, Ynet’s defense analyst, explains that the Israeli interest is for the Egyptian unrest to calm down, and similarly for tumults in other neighboring countries.

Every failing state increases the terror threat on Israel, and actually an attack on Hezbollah boosts the chances for civil war in Lebanon, which, like in Egypt, Israel would rather avoid.

Civil wars, political instability and economic hardship – these are the main factors for terror on the Israeli borders. All these factors are currently in motion in the countries that went through the Arab Spring, as well as in Lebanon.

Without internal conflict, stability and economic prosperity return – from which Israel benefits as well.

UNVAILING THE MYSTERY OF THE PRE-MILLENNIAL RAPTURE

The 1st Resurrection, Catching Out of the Saved, or the Rapture – Part 5

Please read my previous BLOGs (THE RAPTURE – PARTS 1 TO 4) prior to reading the following BLOG.

THE FUTURE TIME WHEN NO ONE CAN HELP THE ANTICHRIST!

He has returned from Egypt to Israel to set in his command post on the Jerusalem Temple Mount and direct a final attack upon the remnant of Israel in the Negev Wilderness.

Daniel 11:45 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

The inspired word for “tabernacles” is “ohel,” which always means “tents.” The “ohel” in the wilderness was a “tabernacle” that was a huge tent. These tents house the many millions that will have come to Israel for the final onslaught against the small Jewish remnant in the Negev, which the Scripture identifies as the battle of Armageddon. He will issue a call to all the nations of Europe, Eurasia, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa to come and join him in this great battle, and the demonic frog spirits of the father, son, and unholy false prophet will influence them to come to this final battle of Armageddon.

Revelation 16:13-16 – And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. [14] For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. [15] Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. [16] And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Daniel 11:45 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

The inspired word for “palace” is appeden, and it appears only once in this particular form throughout the Bible. At the time this Scripture was written all the great kings carried portable command post buildings with them when they went forth to conquer. They included a royal throne, on which the king would set issuing the commands to his troops in the field. This is what an “appeden” is – a portable command post from which the king issues battle directives to his troops in the field.

The king of the north, the antichrist, will set his command post on the glorious holy mountain, which is Mount Moriah, the center hill of the three hills of eastern Jerusalem. This Mount lies between the Mediterranean and Dead Seas. His millions of troops will blanket all of Israel north of Beersheva, with the heaviest concentrations filling the two valleys that join at the Tel of Megiddo, the Plain of Esdraelon and the Jezreel Valley. Most of the incoming troops will disembark at the port of Haifa, then proceed southeastward down the Esdraelon-Jezreel Valley into the Jordan Valley, and hence southward to Jerusalem and the border of the northern Negev. Millions will stand in place and await the command of antichrist to start the attack on the small remnant of Israel in the Negev.

One would be inclined to think that the antichrist, with millions of troops behind him, would be absolutely unstoppable, and that God’s chosen people, the nation of Israel, would be killed to the last man by this massive onslaught. That is what makes the last part of this verse so strange, as Daniel states: “yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.”

I remember many years ago, a dear departed friend of mine, Dr. I.K. Cross, who was presenting a message at the annual Pastors and Missionaries Conference in Texarkana, delivered a sermon titled “We’re Gonna Win.” And the crux of his message made clear that the reason we were going to win was because of what Christ had already done, was doing, and would do in the future. It is Jesus Christ, returning to the earth with all his power, that will use His earth, atmosphere, and universe to forever destroy the antichrist, his false prophet, and his vast army. I believe the following Scriptures attest to that fact:

Revelation 16:16-21 – And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. [17] And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. [18] And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. [19] And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. [20] And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. [21] And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Zechariah 14:12 – And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL AND THE 7TH TRUMPET

With what you have just read in mind, please consider the following verses.

Daniel 11:45 to 12:1 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. [1] And at THAT time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

The antichrist will sit in his command post on the Holy Temple Mount in Jerusalem and issue the command for his millions of troops to attack the remnant of Israel in the Negev. It is “at that time” that Michael stands up for Israel, and the last trump, the 7th trump of Revelation, sounds to announce the arrival of the 7 vials of God’s wrath. This is when the first resurrection, the rapture of the saved, occurs. Those “written in the book” are from “a book of remembrance” found in Malachi 3:16 to 4:3, with 3:16-18 telling the saved they will return to earth, and 4:1-3 advising them what shape the physical earth would be in at the time of their return.

Malachi 3:16-18 – Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. [17] And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. [18] Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not. [1] For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. [2] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. [3] And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

When antichrist returns to Jerusalem, he will sit on the Temple Mount as Daniel’s abomination of desolation, and the sixth trumpet will blow to begin the second woe. The second woe will end with a great quake that drastically affects Jerusalem. It will cause a reverential fear to sweep across the Israeli remnant in the wilderness, and they will begin to turn to Christ and give glory to his name.

Revelation 11:13,14 – And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. [14] The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

The three woes are the blowing of the fifth, sixth, and seventh trumpets.

Revelation 11:14,15 – The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly. [15] And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

After the rapture of the saved in Revelation 11:15 they are then judged for rewards in heaven in verse 18 while the seven vials of God’s wrath are being poured out on the earth.

Revelation 11:18 – And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

While all of the saved are being judged in heaven for rewards, Michael is standing up for the remnant in the Negev, and the vials are being poured out on the antichrist and his followers. I suspect this time of absolute terror will last more than one month, but less than two. Believers will not be on this earth when it occurs.

When Michael stands up, the 7th trumpet sounds, and the saved are delivered up to heaven to be judged for rewards. While they are being judged in heaven, what is happening on the earth in Matthew 24:21,22 corresponds to what is described as the time of trouble that occurs after Michael stands up.

Matthew 24:21,22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [22] And except those days should be shortened, there should NO FLESH be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

By God’s grace He has elected to bring a small Jewish nation through this brief period. It will consist of Israelis that shall come through this terrible time, still alive in the flesh, to begin to rule over the physical section of Christ’s kingdom during His reign of a thousand years.

Britain’s foreign aid has fallen into hands of al-Qaeda, DfiD admits

Almost half a million pounds of British taxpayer-funded aid and equipment has fallen into the hands of al-Qaeda, the Department for International Development has admitted.

By Andrew Gilligan

9:00PM BST 10 Aug 2013

The terror group’s Somali franchise, al-Shabaab, “confiscated” the equipment from DfID contractors in multiple incidents over at least three months before any action was taken.

The admission is contained in the small print of the department’s latest accounts, which say that £480,000 worth of “humanitarian materials and supplies” was written off following repeated “confiscations” by al-Shabaab.

The confiscations are one of a series of developments disclosed by the department, which will increase controversy over the British aid budget, the only item of government expenditure that is rising sharply in an era of cuts.

British aid is due to reach about £11billion by 2015, to meet the Government’s promise that aid spending should be 0.7 per cent of gross national income. Critics say the 0.7 per cent figure encourages wasteful spending to meet the target.

Investigations by The Telegraph show a number of areas of questionable spending and results that are open to question, including how:

British aid budget funded key al-Qaeda aide

25 Apr 2011

* The proportion of British aid spent on the poorest countries has dropped from 80 per cent to just over 65 per cent;

* DfID’s performance has fallen behind its already poor record since the Coalition came to office;

* More than £60million in British aid was paid to countries in Europe in 2011, the last year for which full figures are available;

* British aid money was spent subsidising hospitality at five star hotels during the Olympics last year.

Sir Gerald Howarth, a Conservative MP, said: “There is huge public concern at the relentless increase in overseas aid. Incidents like this, where British taxpayers’ money is diverted into people fighting against us, are not acceptable. DfID owes it to the public to exercise the utmost care with its money.”

DfID refused to specify what the lost supplies were, but an aid industry expert said the value suggested a “huge amount” of material that could keep the terrorists going for a “fairly long time”.

Aid industry sources said dried foodstuffs of that value could feed 20,000 people for more than a year. “It is surprising that no action was taken, which suggests that, at best, DfID was asleep to the loss of its property and, at worst, that its local partners were colluding with the terrorists,” the aid expert said.

DfID said its contractors had “no prior warning of the confiscations” and therefore “no time to prevent the loss by relocating goods”.

The accounts show the confiscations took place between November 2011 and February 2012 and from multiple locations. It said an investigation was made into the losses but did not reveal the findings.

Last year, al-Shabaab threatened an attack on Britain that would “eclipse the horrors of 7/7 and 21/7 combined”. Several British citizens have travelled to train with the group.

DfID was set goals concerning 20 “priority countries” for aid throughout the Coalition’s time in office. This newspaper has found that 38 per cent of these targets were assessed as “achieved or on track” in 2010, which fell to 31 per cent by this year. Fifty-four per cent of the targets were considered “off track” or “severely off track”, up from 49 per cent in 2010.

A series of countries classified as “middle income” have received aid funding. Most of the money given to prosperous countries was channelled via aid bodies such as the EU, Unicef and the World Health Organisation. Such bodies have been criticised as inefficient and as denying Britain control of where its money is spent.

To meet its spending target, DfID has channelled growing proportions of its budget into such groups, which spend almost two thirds of British aid money.

A spokesman for DfID said: “DfID works in some of the most dangerous places in the world, including Somalia, because tackling the root causes of poverty and instability there ensures a safer world and a safer UK.

“Working in conflict-affected and fragile states carries inherent risk. DFID does all it can to mitigate against this but, on occasion, losses will occur.

“We work with our partners to design programmes that protect our investment from misuse or theft.”

The supplies were in warehouses seized by al-Shabaab and were later believed to have been set ablaze, they added.

Bahrain Prepares For August 14 Anti-Regime Protests Planned By ‘Tamarrud Bahrain’ Movement

By: Y. Yehoshua and R. Goldberg*

Introduction

On August 14, 2013, protests are planned to take place in Bahrain calling for the ouster of the Bahraini regime and for the establishment of a democratic regime in its place. The protests are part of the Bahraini “Tamarrud” campaign, which was inspired by the eponymous campaign in Egypt. The Tamarrud Bahrain campaign, launched by activists of the February 14 Youth Coalition, is a continuation of the Shi’ite protests against the Sunni Aal Khalifa regime that have been ongoing in the kingdom for the last three years, since February 14, 2011.

The August 14 protests are to commence at 15:00 in a square outside the U.S. embassy in Manama. The objectives behind this choice of location are: to elicit U.S. and Western support for the protest movement in Bahrain, draw international attention to the issue, and deter the regime from using force against the demonstrators.

The regime, for its part, does not regard the protest as a genuine expression of popular will, but rather as terrorism in the service of Iran, which, it says, is bluntly interfering in Bahrain’s internal affairs with the aim of toppling the regime and turning the kingdom into an extension of the Islamic Republic. The authorities have taken a series of preventive measures to thwart the protest, such as prohibiting demonstrations and imposing stricter penalties for those who participate in acts of terrorism or incite to terrorism. Concurrently, supporters of the regime have launched several counter-campaigns opposing Tamarrud.

These attempts to renew the mass protests in Bahrain intensify the sectarian tensions between Sunnis and Shi’ites not only in the kingdom but in the Arab and Muslim world at large, and also deepen the existing conflict between pro-Iranian and anti-Iranian forces in the region, against the backdrop of the instability in the Middle East, especially in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Egypt.

Many Sunni countries, especially in the Gulf, believe that the Bahraini protest is a tool that Iran is using in order to convey a message to its rivals, in particular Saudi Arabia. These countries see the protests as a danger that might spread to their own territory, and have therefore rallied to the support of the Aal Khalifa regime.

This report reviews the Bahraini Tamarrud campaign and its preparations for the August 14 demonstrations, as well as the measures taken against it by the Bahraini regime.

Bahraini Tamarrud Movement Announces Uprising Against Aal Khalifa Regime Starting August 14

The Bahraini Tamarrud movement, inspired by and modeled upon the eponymous Egyptian movement, was formed in early July with the aim of toppling the Aal Khalifa regime and establishing a democratic regime in its place. Like its Egyptian counterpart, the Bahraini movement calls upon the people to take to the streets in protest against the dictatorial regime. It presents itself as a visionary movement of young people and as “a peaceful movement that [can] accommodate all political parties” in Bahrain and aims to attain “a real democracy in Bahrain no less [genuine] than [the democracy] found in Western countries such as the U.S.A. and the United Kingdom.”[1]

In a communiqué posted on the day of its founding (July 4) on its Facebook and Twitter pages, the movement announced that the Bahraini Tamarrud campaign would begin on August 14, Bahrain’s independence day, and that the people would mark it by taking to the streets and holding nonviolent mass demonstrations in front of the U.S. embassy, in which they would call upon the royal family to leave the country and cede power to the people.[2] The organizers explained that they had chosen to hold the protest on Bahrain’s independence day in order “to underscore their aspiration that Bahrain be an independent, Arab and democratic country that respects the will of its citizens.”[3]

A communique on the movement’s Twitter page said: “We hereby declare August 14 – the day of Bahrain’s 1971 announcement of independence – as the start of the ‘Tamarrud Bahrain’ campaign. This is an uprising against the oppression of the regime, which has usurped the value of citizenship, hijacked the people’s [right] to make decisions, their authority and their sovereignty in pursuit of its own interests, usurped the [country’s] resources… and passed oppressive laws that usurp the people’s rights and limit its action.

“Bahrain is the free and independent homeland of all its citizens, without distinction or discrimination. The people is the sovereign and the source of all powers. It has the right to act by all nonviolent means in order to restore the powers and rights of which it has been deprived.” The communique stated further: “The ‘Tamarrud Bahrain’ campaign is a message to all Bahrainis to unite their ranks, place political, ideological and religious disagreements aside… and defend the right of the united people to freedom, dignity and sovereignty.”[4]

In addition to calling for protests outside the U.S. embassy on August 14, the movement also called for a nonviolent campaign of civil disobedience. In a July 30 communique, it said: “[People] must not open their shops or buy groceries or gas, and must stop all dealings with the authorities and all commercial activity… On August 13 after sundown, at 22:00, they should turn out the lights and cry ‘Allah Akbar’ from the rooftops…”

The communique added that any nonviolent political action by opposition groups, before, during and after August 14, would be welcome, stressing that every group has the right to participate in the building of a democratic and independent Bahrain.[5] The Bahraini Tamarrud Movement – Modeled Upon The Eponymous Egyptian Movement

The Bahraini movement acknowledges that it is “influenced by the revolutionary movement in the Egyptian republic, and especially by the ‘Tamarrud Egypt’ movement, from which it took its name.”[6] The similarity is not limited to the name; the logo used by the Bahraini movement and its followers is very similar to the logo of the Egyptian movement:

The Bahraini movement is also similar to its Egyptian counterpart in its modes of operation. Like Tamarrud Egypt, it has not only called for mass protests but has also circulated a petition calling for the ouster of the Aal Khalifa regime, collecting signatures both on the streets and via a website dedicated to this purpose. According to the organizers, the petition is “like a referendum on the Aal Khalifa regime and the people’s desire to replace it.”[7]

Interestingly, despite these similarities, the Egyptian Tamarrud movement does not support the Bahraini one, because it regards it as a Shi’ite movement serving Iran, and also because the ouster of Egypt’s president Mursi was supported by the Gulf regimes, including the Bahraini regime. Egyptian political activists stressed on the Egyptian and Gulf media that the two movements are unconnected, and described Tamarrud Bahrain as a violent movement that promotes Iran’s goals.[8] Muhammad Nabawi, a member of Tamarrud Egypt’s central committee, told the Bahraini daily Al-Ayyam that his movement had nothing to do with Tamarrud Bahrain and would not allow anyone “to exploit it for their own interests on a sectarian or religious basis. We support only the aspirations of peoples [acting to promote] national interests,” he said. He added that all Egyptians know that “what is happening in Bahrain is the result of interference by a certain foreign country [i.e, Iran] that is trying to impose its agenda due to certain disagreements [it has] with the Gulf states.”[9]

Tamarrud Bahrain – A Shi’ite Opposition Campaign

Despite the movement’s attempt to appeal to all the Bahraini people, Sunnis and Shi’ites alike, it seems that Tamarrud Bahrain is a Shi’ite movement calling to topple the Sunni Aal Khalifa regime and establish a democracy in the majority Shi’ite country.

The Shi’ite affiliation of Tamarrud is clearly evident from its official statements and from the identity of its activitsts. Its leaders are supporters of prominent Shi’ite Bahraini oppositionists such as ‘Abd Al-Wahhab Hussein, head of the Al-Wafa movement, Al-Haqq movement head Hassan Mushaima, and oppositionist ‘Abd Al-Hadi Al-Khawaja. The three, who were sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting a coup and for having ties with terrorist elements, are considered emblems of the opposition to the Bahraini regime, and their portraits frequently appear on the Tamarrud Facebook page.

Furthermore, in one of its communiques, the movement stated that its spiritual leader is oppositionist ‘Abd Al-Hadi Al-Khawaja. The communique read: “We stress to the Bahraini people that we see ‘Abd Al-Hadi Al-Khawaja, who was the first to call to topple the Aal Khalifa gang, as the movement’s spiritual father…” It stated further: “The movement has refused demands by various elements to change its objective from nonviolently toppling the [Aal Khalifa] regime to demanding the establishment of a constitutional monarchy under the ruling family.” It explained that it had rejected this demand outright since meeting it would be “a betrayal of the will of the people and of the prominent figures who have called [to realize it], such as ‘Abd Al-Wahhab Hussein and Hassan Mushaima.”[10]

Tamarrud Bahrain’s “Shi’ite connection” is also seen in the fact that the leader of the Shi’ite Al-Wefaq movement, ‘Ali Salman, was the first to congratulate Tamarrud Bahrain on its campaign. In a press conference on July 4, 2013 – the day the campaign was announced – he said: “We know that our struggle is not a short one… The Bahraini people’s patience is evident from the fact that a Tamarrud movement is being organized this August, that the rallies continue and the spirit of the revolution remains, and that the sons of the martyrs are leading the rallies.” He said further: “We support any nonviolent call at any time. Everyone has a right to protest anywhere.”[11] On its website, Al-Wefaq expressed support for Tamarrud’s August 14 protest initiative, stating that attending the demonstrations is the citizens’ right and exhorting the security apparatuses not to use excessive force against the protestors.[12]

Another oppositionist who voiced support for the movement was Ayatollah ‘Issa Qassem, the representative in Bahrain of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Iraqi Ayatollah ‘Ali Sistani. In a July 5, 2013 Friday sermon at the Imam Sadeq mosque in the city of Diraz, Qassem welcomed the anti-regime protests in Bahrain, saying: “The opposition [movement] has entered its third year. The people are suffering torment and much pain, but the movement will [nevertheless] continue on a nonviolent [path]. The Bahraini regime consistently accuses the [protest] movement of the Bahraini nation of sectarianism and of relying on foreigners [i.e., Iran], but this revolution is too alert to fall into this trap. All the Arab revolutions stem from the same [source]: oppression by the regime.”

Qassem noted the hypocrisy of the Aal Khalifa regime, which welcomes the Arab revolutions throughout the region yet suppresses the Bahraini revolution: “All the Arab revolutions were welcomed [by the regime], but now that the time has come for a revolution in Bahrain [itself], the nation is granted no rights, and [opposition] leaders are arrested or compelled to leave the country.” He said that one of the lessons to be learned from Mursi’s ouster is that “regimes, even if they come to power in the name of Islam, cannot stay in power forever.”[13] In another sermon two weeks later, he said: “A nation that remains silent in the face of oppression capitulates to oppression itself, and capitulation in the face of oppression is [an act of] treason.”[14]

Thanks to this Shi’ite connection, Tamarrud’s activities have been widely reported in media affiliated with the pro-Iranian camp. They have received much attention in Al-Alam, Iran’s Arabic-language TV channel, as well as in Hizbullah’s Al-Manar TV, Syria’s government press and Lebanese papers associated with Hizbullah and the Syrian regime. Moreover, on August 8, Tamarrud spokesman Hussein Yousuf held a press conference in Beirut in which he called for a “general mobilization” against the Bahraini regime, and which was widely covered in the Lebanese press associated with the pro-Iranian resistance camp. The holding of the press conference in Beirut, and the media attention it received in the Lebanese press, evoked anger against Lebanon in Bahrain, and the Salafi Al-Asala bloc even urged the Bahraini foreign ministry to take measures against Lebanon “for its involvement in attempts to harm [Bahrain’s] national security and threaten its stability.”[15]

Criticism was also voiced by Bahraini columnist Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, who wrote in his column in the government daily Akhbar Al-Khaleej: “[This] Lebanese interference in Bahrain’s affairs was not the first [act of its kind]; in fact, [such interference] has gradually become more frequent since Hizbullah’s takeover of parts of Lebanon. Imagine some anonymous group holding a press conference in Manama and calling for a rebellion against the Lebanese regime or even [for a rebellion] in the Maldives!… Moreover, Hizbullah’s support of the extremist movements in Bahrain, which takes the form of training and logistic assistance, has not stopped for years. All this continues with the acquiescence, if not the blessing, of the Lebanese government. [This] government, which has become [part of] a political program that is hostile to the Arab Gulf states, assists the program of the Rule of the Jurisprudent [in Iran] and supports the extermination of Sunni Muslims in Syria.[16]

Protest Outside U.S. Embassy In An Attempt To Recruit U.S., Western Support

Ahead of the protests, Tamarrud Bahrain is working diligently to recruit U.S. and Western support. In addition to calling for protests outside the U.S. embassy in Manama, it has sent an open letter to the U.S. and Western countries urging them to support its demand for democratic change in the country. As part of these efforts, the movement is also working to get the West in general and the U.S. in particular to apply political pressure to the Bahraini regime so it does not crack down on the protestors

In a communique, the movement explained why it chose the U.S. embassy in Manama as the location of its planned protest: “Why should we hold the mass protest in front of the U.S. embassy? Many significant reasons led us to choose the U.S. embassy: First, the constitution of the U.S. clearly addresses support for democracy and freedom all over the world. The U.S. supported many revolutions during its history such as the French revolution, which is considered one of the greatest revolutions in modern history.

“Second, the U.S. embassy square in Manama is an open square that can be easily reached from different access points…

“Third, The mass peaceful gathering in front of the U.S. embassy will encourage the U.S. State Department to deal with the peaceful Bahraini revolution in a more active way and to shoulder the ethical responsibilities, especially [considering] that Bahrain has hosted the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters for more than 50 years without any significant difficulty. The Bahraini nation is a very peaceful nation and always looks forward to keeping and strengthening bilateral relations between Bahrain and the U.S. Also, from a different angle, the mass protest in front of the U.S. embassy will [cause] all international news media to cover this huge event.

“Fourth, all the events in front of the U.S. embassy will be recorded by video and conveyed to the U.S. State Department immediately, which will cause public opinion inside the U.S. to support the Bahraini nation, which will put pressure on the Aal Khalifa ruling family. Unfortunately, the Bahraini army is currently composed of mercenaries that are under the direct control of the Aal Khalifa ruling family and we cannot rely on it to stand beside the Bahraini nation’s ambition to democracy… but we rely on international conscience to ethically stand with democracy in Bahrain.

“Fifth, any suppression or crackdown on the mass protest in front of the U.S. embassy will form international public opinion, which will exert pressure on the Aal Khalifa ruling family to transfer power to the Bahraini nation.” [17]

An open letter in English to the U.S. and the West, posted on the movement’s Facebook page, reads: “Modern history will not forget how [the] U.S. supported [the] French revolution, which became one of the noblest and greatest revolutions in history. Also, the U.S. supports democratic changes in many Arab countries such as Iraq, Egypt and Tunisia. [Therefore, the] Bahrain[i] nation hopes that [the] U.S. will support real democratic changes in Bahrain too.

“We are planning to [hold] a rally in front of [the] U.S. embassy in Manama on August 14, 2013, which will put ethical responsibilities on U.S. officials, [the American] nation, and the free world toward peaceful protesters, especially [considering] that [the] Bahrain[i] nation [has hosted] the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters [for] more than 50 years without any significant difficulty. The Bahrain[i] nation is a very peaceful nation and always look[s] forward to keep[ing] and strengthen[ing] bilateral relations between Bahrain and the U.S.

The letter further reads: “We are [very] afraid and scared of the possibility of [a] fatal crackdown by [the] Bahraini regime on peaceful protesters that will gather in front of the U.S. embassy… Kindly, from a humanitarian and ethical approach, we hope that you may convey our deep concern to [the] U.S. State Department and Congress to exert real political pressure on [the] Bahraini regime to avoid any fatal
crackdown and bloodshed.”[18]

Tamarrud’s open letter to the U.S. and the West

Official Bahraini media criticized Tamarrud’s attempts to recruit U.S. support and tied Tamarrud Bahrain to the Al-Wefaq opposition movement. Thus, for example, columnist ‘Abd Al-Mun’im Ibrahim published an article in Akhbar Al-Khaleej identifying Tamarrud Bahrain with the Al-Wefaq movement and attacking the organizers of the August 14 protest for their decision to hold it outside the U.S. embassy: “Why did Al-Wefaq choose the U.S. embassy in Bahrain as the gathering place for their planned rebellion? Because the movement wants to say: ‘We want the U.S. to protect us in the case of violent clashes between the movement and police.’ Perhaps the visit by the U.S. deputy ambassador to the Al-Wefaq headquarters is a sign that the embassy welcomes Al-Wefaq’s attacks on [the regime]… Al-Wefaq preferred a relationship with the U.S. over reconciling with the majority of the Bahraini people (Sunni and Shi’ite), which opposes the [movement’s] disrespectful and provocative discourse and its incitement to violence.”[19]

Regime Prepares To Prevent Protests And Punish Participants: This is Organized Terrorism

The Bahraini regime, fearing the August 14 protests, refers to Tamarrud as “organized terrorism,” just as it refers to the Shi’ite opposition’s activity as “violence and terrorism” in the service of Iran.[20] Moreover, the authorities have taken steps to thwart the planned demonstrations, including by preventing unauthorized gatherings and tightening penalties for “terrorists.”

Bahraini Information Minister and Government Spokeswoman Samira Rajab warned that participating in the so-called “anti-kingdom Tamarrud movement” would be punished according to the law and that violence and terrorism were strictly forbidden.[21] She added: “It is time to stand together, firmly and urgently, against terrorism, that malignant sickness which eats away at the body of our peaceful society. The clear and deliberate intention of those who plan [this terrorism], incite to it and carry it out is to drag the country to civil war… We desperately need laws that criminalize incitement to violence and killing in any way – [including] via electronic media and social networks.”[22] The Bahraini prime minister said that “the government is not acting today against a group that disagrees with its ideology, but rather against organized terrorism.”[23]

The regime took several measures to deter the public from joining the August 14 protest. On August 8, 2013, the Bahraini king issued a decree amending the protest law to prohibit any gatherings outside international institutions, public buildings or security facilities without written authorization from the General Security chief or his deputy. The decree stated further that the interior minister would be in charge of determining which locations fall into these categories.[24]

Furthermore, on July 28, 2013, the National Assembly (comprising Bahrain’s upper and lower houses of parliament) published 22 recommendations, including revoking citizenship and imposing long prison sentences on the inciters and perpetrators of violence. In addition, the parliament recommended banning all protests and gatherings in the capital of Manama as a preventative measure ahead of August 14.[25] And indeed, on July 30, 2013, the Bahraini government, in a special session, approved the parliament’s recommendations. Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Aal Khalifa said that “the government is determined to fight violence and terrorism… and in light of the national consensus [on this matter], it is continuing to supply security and stability by battling terrorism and sectarianism… [all this within the framework of] the law and its commitment to freedom of expression and human rights.”[26]

On August 1, 2013, two days after the Bahraini government approved the parliament’s recommendations, the King issued a royal decree setting a penalty of at least 10 years in prison for anyone who planned or carried out a terrorist attack, and a life sentence or the death penalty for anyone perpetrating an attack that results in loss of life.[27]
On its part, the Tamarrud movement stressed that it does not call for violence and that it “embraces the nonviolent option as a strategic choice.”[28]

Regime Supporters Launch Counter-Campaigns

Supporters of the Bahraini regime, on their part, launched counter-campaigns calling not to participate in the August 14 protests. For instance, a Twitter campaign titled “Tamarrud Against Terror” claimed that the protests would plunge Bahrain into “endless crises” and urged the authorities to take the necessary security measures to apprehend the “terrorists and saboteurs.”[29] An organization called Al-Minbar Al-Watani Al-Islami, associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, initiated a similar campaign titled “Anti-Tamarrud,” which, it said, stressed its opposition to all forms of sectarianism, terror and violence (such as the throwing of Molotov cocktails and setting of fires) that Tamarrud is planning for August 14.[30]

Criticism against the Tamarrud campaign was also expressed in the government press. Columnist Mahmid Al-Mahmid wrote in his column in Akhbar Al-Khaleej: “August 14 will be an ordinary day, which will not bring fear to the loyal [Bahrainis] or intimidate the lovers of the homeland. [Tamarrud’s] wayward call will not be heeded, [for our] citizens are patriots. People will go to work, to the markets, to the hospitals and to their [usual] places of gathering. They will stroll through the streets and parks, and spend hours on the beach. The desires and hopes of the terrorists and their supporters will not be realized.”[31]

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

August 11, 2013, 6:27 PM (IDT)

Mr. X, secret Brotherhood leader

On July 22, DEBKAfile revealed that a group of six Muslim Brotherhood officials escaped from Egypt after the July 3 overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi in a military coup and smuggled themselves into the Gaza Strip to lead an uprising against the military. The group was headed by Mahmud Izzat Ibrahim, known as the Brotherhood’s “iron man” and fourth in rank in its hierarchy after Supreme Guide Muhammed Badie.

The fugitives set up a command post at the Gaza Beach Hotel for operations against Egyptian military and security targets in collaboration with Hamas and armed Al Qaeda-linked Salafist Bedouin in Sinai. The group planned their revolt to spread quickly out from Sinai to Egypt proper and topple the interim rulers in Cairo.

Western intelligence agencies following the inner workings of the Muslim Brotherhood have since discovered that the Brotherhood’s plans are a good deal more high-powered than first thought.

According to DEBKAfile intelligence sources, the movement never dismantled its clandestine paramilitary underground. Its hidden commanders manipulated front politicians from the shadows under three Egyptian presidents and continued to do so after the Brotherhood was elected to power in Cairo in 2012. At all times since then, the Brothers stood ready to step in should their Freedom and Justice Party leaders be ousted and sent back to prison. “Supreme Guide,” Mohammed Badie was therefore no more than an obedient front for the Muslim Brotherhood’s real leader, who was until now Mr. X.

It now transpires that he is none other than Mahmoud Izzat Ibrahim, who is firmly at the helm and running the show both in Sinai and Cairo from the Gaza Beach Hotel, under the auspices of the Palestinian Hamas rulers.

He plans to confront with violence every action ordered against the Brotherhood by Defense Minister, Gen. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

While conducting a war of terror against military targets in Sinai, Izzat Ibrahim’s orders keep thousands of followers maintaining their sit-in protests in Cairo for their president’s reinstatement. They are determined to leave the military no option but to use force to disperse them.

Ibrahim’s goal is to lead his movement into a bloody confrontation with the military.

Gen. El-Sisi, for his part, knows that the Brotherhood’s underground command center in the Gaza Beach Hotel must be destroyed in order to beat its war of resistance.

For effective action in the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian military needs help from Israel’s Defense Forces, just as the IDF needs the Egyptian army to counteract the al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorists in Sinai who are dedicated to attacking Israel as well as Egypt.

This tacit interdependence and the interchanges against a shared enemy shot into prominence over two incidents. The first was the two-hour closure Thursday, Aug. 8 of Eilat airport at Israel’s southernmost tip, following an Egyptian intelligence tip-off over a missile threat from Sinai. Then Friday, Aug. 9, foreign sources reported that two missiles fired by an Israeli drone in North Sinai destroyed a missile launcher and killed four or five terrorists at Ajarah.

Israel never confirmed this attack. The impression it made was quickly overlaid with conflicting reports. Egyptian officials initially attributed the Israeli drone attack to intelligence cooperation between the two armies. An Al-Qaeda group in Sinai, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, accused Israel of killing four of its members by a drone strike and vowed vengeance. DEBKAfile reported that the attack may not have been conducted by Israel but Egyptian authorities, which preferred to disavow an operation carried out on the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr.

Finally, Sunday, the Egyptian military reported that its operation against armed groups in the Sinai believed to have been plotting attacks on security forces and other targets was ongoing. At least seven people were killed over night and six arrested in a raid.

The Egyptian military statement went on to report that the raid followed an air strike by the Egyptian military on Friday, which saw at least four people killed. The assault on Saturday happened when Apache helicopters hit areas south of Sheikh Zuwaid in north Sinai, according to Egyptian state media.

Israel’s Defense minister commented: “The Egyptian army is fighting first and foremost to defend Egyptian citizens and sovereignty. We will not let rumors and speculation impair the peace relations between our countries.”

RAT KILLING CONTINUES IN SINAI BY EGYPTIANS & ISRAELIS

Military officials say Egyptian helicopters fired at a gathering of suspected Egypt army says 12 militants killed in north Sinai

Military officials say helicopters fired at gathering of militants wanted for killing, abduction of seven Egyptian soldiers earlier 2013

Militants, killing at least 12 in the northern region of the country’s Sinai Peninsula.

The officials say three helicopters targeted militants in the desert town of Sheik Zuweyid late Saturday. All officials spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.

Military spokesman Col. Ahmed Mohammed Ali confirmed the attack in a post on his official Facebook page. He said 25 militants were targeted, but did not offer a breakdown of casualties.

He added the militants were wanted for an attack on Egyptian soldiers last year that killed 16 and the abduction of seven security forces earlier this year.

The helicopter strike came after an alleged Israeli drone strike Friday on Egyptian territory in Sinai killed suspected militants.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon neither confirmed nor denied Israeli involvement in the attack and said that his country won’t let recent “rumors and speculation” harm the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty, an attempt to downplay reports that an Israeli drone killed four militants in a cross-border strike into Egypt.

The Israeli military said Friday it was looking into the report. On Sunday it said it had no further comment.

Egyptian officials initially said an Israeli drone carried out the attack, but an official quoted by the state media later claimed an Egyptian helicopter was responsible.

Ya’alon said that Israel “appreciated” unspecified actions taken by Egypt against militants over the weekend.

“Israel respects the full sovereignty of Egypt,” Ya’alon said. He said Israel was “aware of the Egyptian military’s increased activity against terror infrastructures in the Sinai Peninsula” and praised the Egyptian military for “fighting first and foremost to protect Egypt’s citizens and sovereignty.”

A little known militant group, Ansar Jerusalem, said its men were the target of Friday’s drone strike into Egyptian territory. It said four militants were killed as they were preparing to fire rockets into Israel.

The Israeli praise of Egypt protecting its citizens seemed intended to deflect reports that Israel carried out a rare cross-border attack to protect its own citizens. Egypt is highly sensitive to criticism about letting Israel carry out strikes on its soil.

The attack could indicate increased cooperation between Egypt and Israel against militants in northern Sinai after a coup ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi last month. It also is likely to increase tensions in a border region that has seen other rocket attacks in the past.

Egypt and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1979.

Iran’s New Defense Minister: Behind the 1983 Attack on the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut

Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Dr. Shimon Shapira

(Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs)

The newly-elected president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, has appointed Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan as the new defense minister.

In the summer of 1982, Dehghan was sent to Lebanon where he served as commander of the training corps of Revolutionary Guard and a year later was appointed commander of the Revolutionary Guard force in Lebanon.

In September 1983, Hizbullah, with the help of the Revolutionary Guard headed by Dehghan, took over the Sheikh Abdullah barracks, the main base of the Lebanese army in the Beqaa Valley. It now became the Imam Ali barracks, the main headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard.

From this headquarters, Iran controlled Hizbullah’s military force and planned, along with Hizbullah, the terror attacks on the Beirut-based Multinational Force and against IDF forces in Lebanon.

According to the U.S. Marine commander, the NSA intercepted the Iranian orders to strike on Sept. 26, 1983. It is difficult to imagine that such a directive would be transmitted without the knowledge of the Revolutionary Guards’ commander, Hossein Dehghan.

On Oct. 25, 1983, a Shiite suicide bomber detonated a water tanker at the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 241 Marines; simultaneously, another Shiite suicide bomber blew up the French paratroopers’ barracks in Beirut, killing 58 soldiers.

Satan and Demons will soon be Removed from Earth’s Surface

And his 10 Islamic Horns will Lose at War’s Armageddon Battle

Because Christ will return at 2nd Advent to Win the Last Battle

Our spiritual Foe is that old Serpent, called the Devil and Satan

August 12, 2013

http://www.tribulationperiod.com/

Revelation 12:3 – And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads AND TEN HORNS, and seven crowns upon his heads.

I Peter 5:8-12 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [9] Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. [10] But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. [11] To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. [12] By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

Isaiah 24:21,22 – And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. [22] And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

Revelation 20:1-3 – And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. [2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, [3] And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

At the battle of Armageddon most of the kings of the earth will come to join the antichrist in a final attempt to eradicate the nation of Israel. Among them will be 10 Arab nations representing 10 horns on the Dragon in Revelation 12.

REVELATION 19:19 IS THE FINAL ARMAGEDDON BATTLE

Revelation 19:19 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Some three and one-half years BEFORE the final battle of Armageddon, which closes the tribulation period, 10 kings of nations out of the territory once occupied by the ancient Roman Empire’s southern half, will attack Israel from the north. The initial attack will be staged from Greater Syria by military forces comprised primarily of fighters from the 10 horns of Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. Then Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Sudan will quickly expose themselves as being a part of the 10 horned conspiracy. After the 10 horned conspiracy’s initial victories over Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arab, all the many Muslim majority population countries will quickly respond to a call to be a part of Antichrist’s Caliphate in North Africa, the Middle East, the southern satellites of the old Soviet Union, and Southeast Asia. The Caliph of this Great Caliphate will be the Islamic Antichrist, the man of sin, the son of perdition. The great falling away from the faith, once delivered to the saints, is now being manifested by failure to assemble and worship God together in local visible bodes in spirit and in truth.

II Thessalonians 2:3 – Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

The last evil kingdom of antichrist on this earth was to initially be composed of 10 nations with 10 kings led by the man of sin himself. It was to arise out of the ashes of the old Roman Empire, and I have always believed it would rise out of the southern half of the Empire, being made up of 10 Arab nations. I believe the elements for its formation are in place today, and I suspect that the most likely Arab nations of which it will be comprised are Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran.

The 10 horns on the Dragon, who is the Devil found in Revelation 12, are the same 10 horns found in Daniel 7.

Revelation 12:3 – And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

Daniel 7:24 – And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

Revelation 12:1 – And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

There can be no legitimate question as to who the “woman” in this Scripture represents – she is positively identified in the Old Testament as the nation of Israel. It is from this nation that God has chosen His remnant, and God will select a remnant of 144,000 sealed Israelites to be carried unharmed up to the blowing of the seventh trumpet.

First of all, let us examine the symbols of this verse. Here is a woman clothed with the sun, standing on the moon, with a crown of twelve stars on her head. The sun is the Patriarch Jacob, the moon represents his wives that gave birth to his twelve sons, and the twelve stars are the twelve sons from which the nation of Israel descended. The woman represents the nation of Israel, and this interpretation is not based on opinion. God revealed the key to this verse to Joseph long before John wrote it.

Genesis 37:9-11 – And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. [10] And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? [11] And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

Here, in Joseph’s dream, are the same set of symbols, the sun, moon, and eleven stars, with Joseph himself being number twelve. Jacob, his wives, and Joseph’s eleven brothers are made to bow down before Joseph at some future time. This was to be fulfilled when all of Jacob’s large family came down to Egypt where Joseph had been made second in command to Pharaoh. God used this set of symbols only twice in the Bible and the first usage interprets the second. The woman literally represents all the descendants of the twelve sons of Israel – what we identify today as the nation of Israel.

Revelation 12:2 – And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

Over nineteen hundred years ago the nation of Israel gave birth to the flesh and blood Son of God – the sinless man, Christ Jesus, in whom all the fullness of the Godhead dwelt. God chose a virgin of the tribe of Israel as the one who would bear His Child in her womb, the blessed virgin Mary.

Luke 1:30,31 – And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. [31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

Revelation 12:1-3 – And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: [2] And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. [3] And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

In verse three we find the great adversary of the woman and her man child. Their adversary is the great red dragon, the fallen archangel Lucifer, whom the world knows today as Satan. He is portrayed as being made red with the blood of the prophets and other saints he has caused to be slain. His seven heads represent the kings of the six great world governments that have persecuted Israel in the past, and one that will persecute her in the future. The persecution began with the Egyptian Pharaoh of the Exodus, and will end with her persecution in the Negev Wilderness by the antichrist.

The six symbolic kings that persecuted her in the past represent the following nations in chronological order: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Italy. The last world government will be the seventh, and its king will be the antichrist of Satan. The seven crowns represent the authority given to the kings of these nations by Satan.

Revelation 17:10 – And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

The seven kings are the seven governmental heads on the red dragon. All seven wear crowns given to them by Satan because he personally brought them to power during their lifetimes. The first six kings came from the six great world empires of the past beginning with the Pharaohs of the Egyptian bondage, and ending with the empire that was still in existence in John’s day, the great Roman Empire. In John’s day all the learning and expertise of the previous five great empires had been passed on to the sixth empire of iron – the Roman Empire. The antichrist’s empire, the seventh of the empires, will have incorporated all the accumulated knowledge of the ages from Satan’s previous secular empires.

In the Scriptures, governments are sometimes referred to as “mountains.” This final government of the antichrist will be the seventh “mountain,” and it will have the political support of the great apostate system of religion known as the “whore of Babylon.” She will verbally support the 10 Arab nations in their Jihad against Israel after it is launched, but she will ride to her destruction on their back. And, after she rides high because of the antichrist’s early successes, the 10 Arab nations, who have always hated her, will turn on her and burn the thousands of her churches scattered across their domains.

Revelation 17:3-6,16-18 – So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. [4] And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: [5] And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. [6] And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. [16] And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. [17] For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. [18] And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

There was only one city that met such criteria in John’s day, the great city of Rome.

Revelation 12:4 – And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

Continuing with the exposition of the twelfth chapter of the book of Revelation, we find that a bit of Satan’s past history is revealed. We are informed that when Satan fell by sin about one-third of the angels (stars) chose to follow his leadership. By the pulling power of his tail, much like some officials ride into public office on the political coattails of a stronger candidate, one-third of the angels exercised their free will and chose to follow Satan, rather than God. They are forever sealed in their free will choice, just as my soul is sealed in its free will choice to trust in Jesus until my body is redeemed at the rapture.

Ephesians 4:30 – [30] And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

The prophet Isaiah graphically portrays the ancient fall of the beautiful angel Lucifer.

Isaiah 14:12 – [12] How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Since Lucifer’s fall he has a new name – Satan. Lucifer means “shining one,” while Satan means “the hater, accuser, or the adversary.” One primary goal existed in Satan’s plan after his fall – to prevent the birth of an heir who could legitimately take away his earthly spiritual and material kingdom. Verse four presents a picture of fallen Lucifer as a dragon, standing before the woman Israel, determined to kill the heir as soon as he was born.

Revelation 12:5 – [5] And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

The woman Israel is symbolized as the earthly wife of God. So here is the picture presented in verse five – Satan’s greatest fear is realized – the symbolized wife of God gives birth to God’s Son through a direct descendant of Israel, the virgin Mary, who has all the correct genealogical credentials from Seth to Heli via Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, David, and Zerubbabel. Beginning with Herod, Satan attempted to destroy the Son both spiritually and physically. Finally, he thought he had destroyed him physically on the cross, but God completely turned the tables on Satan, and openly revealed the great mystery of all the ages to all the world – the great mystery of Christ crucified for all the sins of all who would believe he alone was the total price for completed salvation, and that he alone, with no additional requirements from the recipients, was the provider by His one time sacrifice for all sins.

I Corinthians 1:17,18 + 2:2,5 – For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. [18] For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [2] For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. [5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

God shocked Satan! He lifted up Israel’s sinless “man child” of verse five, and “her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.” God resurrected His Son Jesus Christ, who is in heaven today as the One eternal God, in whom all the fullness of the God head dwells in his glorified body. He was “caught up unto God, and to his throne” more than 2000 years ago in prophetic years of 360 days, and He is still there. Very soon, the woman of chapter twelve is going to have to flee for her life during the Great Tribulation Period. I believe this fleeing is not in the distant future, but will occur soon, and if God had not provided a place of safety for her in the Negev wilderness, she would be utterly destroyed. The 10 Jihad kings are going to drive Israel into the Negev Wilderness, where she will remain for some 1260 days.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

The woman is what remains of Israel after the attack that drove her into the Negev and conquered Jerusalem. If the attack were to occur in the next three years, it would amount to some 2 million Israelis.

Zechariah 13:8 to 14:2 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. [9] And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God. [1] Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. [2] For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
