Syria’s main opposition National Coalition on Wednesday implicitly rejected a U.S.-Russian initiative for dialogue with the regime. “The National Coalition welcomes all international efforts which call for a political solution to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people and their hope for a democratic state, so long as they begin with the departure of Bashar al-Assad and his regime,” the opposition umbrella group said.

The U.S.-Russian initiative is based on an international deal agreed in Geneva last year that makes no mention of Assad stepping down. The Geneva deal, which calls for a transitional government but makes no mention of Assad’s fate, “should be the roadmap,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said after talks in Moscow on Tuesday. FSA commanders say that entire units have gone over to al-Nusra, while others have lost a quarter or more of their strength to them recently. Ala’a al-Basha, commander of the Sayyida Aisha brigade, said 3,000 FSA men have joined al-Nusra in the last few months, mainly because of a lack of weapons and ammunition in the FSA. “Fighters are heading to al-Nusra because of its Islamic doctrine, sincerity, good funding and advanced weapons,” said Abu Islam of the FSA’s al-Tawhid brigade in Aleppo. Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Thursday said Syria will provide him with weapons that will change the balance of power in his battle with Israel and threatened to fight the Jewish state from inside Syria, after last week’s Israeli airstrikes there. “If you claim your aggression’s goal is to prevent the resistance from boosting its capabilities, well, Syria will give the resistance qualitative weapons that it has never obtained before,” he said.

Israel is increasingly worried that advanced weapons including chemical ones will fall into the hands of Hizbullah as well as militant Islamist groups fighting alongside the rebels in Syria. Dore Gold, a former adviser to Prime Minister Netanyahu, said he saw Nasrallah’s speech as a signal that Iran planned to significantly boost its presence in Syria via Hizbullah and its own forces. Israel Asks Russia to Stop Supply of S-300 Missiles to Syria – Ron Ben-YishaiRussia’s concern that the U.S. and the West are approaching a military intervention in the Syrian civil war is the reason Moscow pulled out its most effective pressure card – the intent to deliver S-300 missiles to Assad’s army. Israel has turned to the highest ranks in Russia and the U.S. in order to stop their supply to Syria. The S-300 system is made to intercept aircraft at ranges of over 100 km. (60 miles). A few years ago, when it was discovered that Russia was about to supply these missiles to Syria, Israel and the U.S. turned to the Kremlin, which suspended the deal.

Russia had also signed a deal with Iran for supplying these missiles, and Iranian operators have already trained in their use in Russia. However, following Putin’s visit to Israel and as a result of direct U.S. pressure, this deal was also suspended, yet not canceled altogether.

Israel made clear to the Russians that having these anti-aircraft missile systems in Syria would neutralize Israel’s ability to defend itself since the system would be capable of hitting aircraft not only above Lebanon and Syria, but also immediately when they take off in Israel. (Ynet News)

Tunisia would seem to have the preconditions for democratic governance. Yet it is now ruled by an ineffectual Islamist party that is plainly incapable of restarting the economy and cannot or will not protect secular institutions from Salafi attacks. Libya is a tapestry of heterogeneity that devolves into a multitude of rival tribes, some of which are locked in blood feuds. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood won the elections, while a Salafi movement that seeks to import Saudi extremism grabbed some 20% of the vote. Thousands of Hizbullah Fighters in Syria Protecting Assad Regime’s Escape Route

Hizbullah fighters in Syria are taking an active part in the battle to secure the narrow corridor linking Damascus to the cities of Hama, Homs and Aleppo, and to the Alawite enclave in northwestern Syria. Some 180 Hizbullah fighters reportedly have been killed and 500 have been injured.

Sources in Israel say they doubt Assad’s statement Monday that he would respond to what he said were Israel’s attacks by “renewing resistance on the border of the Golan Heights” by Palestinian groups. Most of the Palestinian factions have already cut ties with the Syrian regime and favor the Sunni opposition. The main Palestinian group still standing by the regime, Ahmed Jibril’s group, has lost most of its operational capabilities in recent decades. (Ha’aretz)

Hamas Terror Cell Arrested in West Bank

Security personnel arrested a Hamas terror cell in the West Bank that plotted to manufacture and fire rockets, and kidnap and kill a soldier, the Israel Security Agency said Wednesday. The cell was headed by Ahmed Fahida, 26, an attorney from Ras Karkar, northwest of Ramallah, who was in contact with Ahmed Uda, a Hamas member in Gaza.

Fahida was ordered to kidnap a soldier, steal his ID and cellphone to be used for negotiations with Israel, and then kill and bury his victim. Fahida and an accomplice had begun to gather weapons and materials to build rockets. Days before the arrests, Fahida informed his handlers in Gaza that the cell members were ready to begin the attacks. (Jerusalem Post)

The Lebanese al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Thursday that President Bashar Assad said that his country “will give everything to Hezbollah” in gratitude for the Shiite group’s support of the Syrian regime.

Assad vowed to imitate Hezbollah’s example and turn Syria into “a nation of resistance (to Israel), for Syria and for future generations,” referring to the alleged Israeli airstrikes in Damascus over the weekend.

According to the newspaper, Assad’s statements were given during a meeting with Lebanese delegates in Damascus and were meant to allay concerns that the airstrikes in Damascus will deter Syrian support of Hezbollah.

In the meeting, Assad also noted that Hezbollah was a “model of resistance” against Israel.

According to the report, the Lebanese delegates described the president as exhibiting “self-confidence, contentment and great gratitude to Hezbollah.”

Assad reportedly added that “for the first time we feel that both they and we (Hezbollah) live in the same situation and they are not only allies that we aid with the resistance.

“We decided that we must approach them and turn into a nation of resistance like Hezbollah, for Syria and for future generations.”

Strategic revenge

Assad referred again to the attacks attributed to the Israeli Air Force, which according to several reports targeted weapons meant for Hezbollah, and said that his country can “easily” retaliate to the airstrikes by “launching rockets at Israel.”

Nevertheless, Assad said: “We want a strategic revenge by opening the door of resistance and turning all of Syria into a resistance nation.”

Assad also mentioned the prolonged Syrian civil war and said: “After the attack we are convinced that we are fighting the enemy. We are after its soldiers that have spread throughout our country.”

On Tuesday, Assad also referred to the bombings and said that “the latest Israeli assault reveals the level of involvement the Israeli occupier, Western countries and their supporters have in the events in Syria.”

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Assad also said that “the Syrian people and its brave army, which have registered important victories in its battle against the terrorist and infidel gangs, are fully capable of dealing with Israel’s adventurism.”

Bad news for Syrian rebels: The Free Syrian Army (FSA), the main opposition group, is losing fighters and capabilities to Jabhat al-Nusra, an Islamist organization with links to al-Qaeda that is emerging as the best-equipped, financed and motivated force fighting Bashar Assad’s regime, The Guardian reported Thursday.

Evidence of the growing strength of the Islamist organization underlines the dilemma for the US, Britain and other governments as they ponder the question of arming anti-Assad rebels.

According to interviews the British paper conducted with commanders in the FSA, in some parts entire units have defected to Jabhat al-Nusra, and in other cases commanders sometimes lost a quarter of their fighters. According to the report, Jabhat al-Nusra agents operate within other rebel organization and identify potential defectors and pull them in.

“Fighters feel proud to join al-Nusra because that means power and influence,” said Abu Ahmed, a former teacher who now commands an FSA brigade in the countryside near Aleppo.

“Al-Nusra fighters rarely withdraw for shortage of ammunition or fighters and they leave their target only after liberating it,” he added. “They compete to carry out martyrdom operations.”

Ala’a al-Basha, commander of another brigade in the FSA, claims he warned the FSA chief of staff, General Salim Idriss, about the issue last month.

Basha said 3,000 FSA men have joined al-Nusra in the last few months, mainly because of a lack of weapons and ammunition. He explained that FSA fighters in the Banias area were threatening to leave because they did not have the firepower to stop the massacre in Bayda.

“Fighters are heading to al-Nusra because of its Islamic doctrine, sincerity, good funding and advanced weapons,” said Abu Islam of the FSA’s al-Tawhid brigade in Aleppo.

“My colleague who was fighting with the FSA asked me: ‘I want to know if I get killed in a battle, am I going to be considered as a martyr or not’? IT did not take him long to quit FSA and join al-Nusra. He asked for a sniper rifle and got one immediately.”

Israel’s Real Target Is Not Syria But Hizbullah

Israel has no interest in getting drawn into the Syrian quagmire. Its target is strategic weapons destined for Hizbullah in Lebanon. On the one hand, Israel appreciates the potential benefits of President Assad’s departure, which would be a blow to Iran and Hizbullah. On the other, the Syrian mess is empowering Islamists and jihadists, who may later threaten Israel directly, ending nearly 40 years of quiet on the Israeli-Syrian border.

Israel believes that while other countries might intervene to prevent proliferation of chemical weapons, in stopping the transfer of conventional weapons, it is on its own. It expects only tacit political support for its actions from the U.S. and Europe, which so far it has received.

After Iran itself, its client Hizbullah is Israel’s most dangerous foe. It fired thousands of rockets at Israel during the 2006 Second Lebanon War and it has been targeting Israelis in a global terror campaign. Israelis see a high chance of another round with Hizbullah in the future. While the war in Syria has given Hizbullah the opportunity to upgrade its arsenal, it has also given Israel the opportunity to deal with the challenge. IDF Brig.-Gen. (ret.) The king of the south represents the initial northern extension of the land division allotted to the Grecian General Ptolemy, which extended from Egypt all the way to what is the present border of Israel with Lebanon and Syria. General Ptolemy was the first king of the south, and the residents of what is now Israel were his subjects. Countless numbers of territorial wars have raged between the kings of the north and the kings of the south. Consequently, the land we know as Israel has been the battlefield between the two, and the kings of the north conquered Jerusalem many times from the time of General Ptolemy to the End of the reign of Syrian King of the North Antiochus Epiphanes and the Maccabean Kings of the South in Israel.

King of the north Antiochus Epiphanes’ IV penetrated south into the Kingdom of the south Ptolemy on four occasions between Daniel 11:21 and 35, but his reign was finished many years ago in the brief age of the Maccabeans. Antiochus Epiphanes was a prototype or type of Antichrist, but the final true Antichrist will soon arise.

The final king of the north is Antichrist. He will eventually rise in Greater Syria to lead a planned massive counter attack against Israel, the final king of the south.

The final Syrian king of the north will cunningly lay the trap into which he will lure the final Israeli king of the south to once again push north into Lebanon, as Israel has done several times in the past. But this time Israel will charge into a half moon Islamic trap, a massive counterattack trap. Its curved end points will close to surround and smash the IDF, then quickly turn south to drive into the shocked glorious land of Israel, which will only stop at Beersheba, where a UN truce will be accepted between Islam and Israel. He will then put Egypt in his crosshairs after bypassing the 600 BC nations of Ammon, Moab, and Edom, which today make up Jordan. Jordan will be overthrown internally by the Palestinians that now make up 80 percent of today’s population under Muslim Brotherhood Influence.

Daniel 11:41 – He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

King of the South not likely to attack Soon!

The prediction of Ahmad Jibril concerning an immediate Israeli attack against Syria in the Jerusalem Post is interesting, but very unlikely to occur as soon as he implies.

I would love to see Ahmad Jibril’s prediction of Israel attacking Syria “very soon,” come true because if that were to be the case, Israel would definitely win the ensuing war. However, that is not what I expect to happen, and I do not expect the prophecy of Daniel 11:40-42 to be fulfilled prior to 2010 and, when it finally is fulfilled, the initial push of the king of the south (Israel) will be met by a planned counterattack from the king of the north (Syria), which will drive Israel into the Negev Wilderness, where she will remain for some three and one-half years.

The important thing about this prophecy has never been WHEN it would be fulfilled, but knowing it WOULD one day be fulfilled, living one day at a time as a believer with a heart committed to serving him. I started guesstimating the time of the attack that would start the last three and one-half years of this present age of the Gentiles many years ago, but only because so many people asked me about it. It has always been a guess, no more and no less! I have tried since 1971 to fight day by day against the evil in my flesh and the world by his power in seeking first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness. If I am still doing that on the day any prophecy is fulfilled, the ‘morrow’ of the prophecy will have taken thought for the things of itself.

Matthew 6:33,34 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. [34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Jibril: Israel will attack Syria soon

Israel has already made a decision to attack Syria and was just mulling over where to land its first strike, Ahmad Jibril, leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed in an interview published Friday by Arabic newspaper Al Hadat.

Jibril estimated that Israeli action, several weeks after an alleged IAF foray into Syria on September 6, would likely be a wide-scale operation, and would probably be answered with attacks by Iran, Hizbullah in Lebanon and the Palestinians of Syria.

“I believe Israel has prepared all likely scenarios for war with Syria, but they are still considering where they will land the first strike, which will come very soon,” Jibril said. “They are weighing whether to attack on one front or on multiple fronts.

“There is an American Israeli plan, backed by silent agreement from the Arab world, to change the balance of power in the Middle East,” he added.

The PFLP leader said also that Israel was wary of a “domino effect” that would drag other countries into the conflict. “The Israelis have not formed a final estimate regarding the possibility of Iranian intervention if they will attack Syria. Secondly, the Lebanese resistance, led by Hizbullah’s Islamic resistance, will intervene and strike the Zionist home front with missiles,” he said.

“The Syrian brothers will not be afraid to protect their land and will continue the war with the Zionist enemy, and we, the Palestinians in Syria, will not sit by idly – we will be on the front lines,” Jibril added.

However, despite Jibril’s claim that “Hizbullah would also participate,” officials in the organization hinted that they would not interfere in a future conflict. Two weeks ago, Sheikh Na’im Kassem, Deputy Secretary General of Hizbullah and Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah’s second in command, said that Israeli estimates that the group would try to take revenge on Syria’s behalf were no more that “journalistic assessments based on insufficient evidence.”
