Syrian nightmare for Israel

Op-ed: Islamist rise in post-Assad Syria may find Israel surrounded by radical Muslim elements

Alex Fishman

July 26, 2012

Intelligence information collected and analyzed by the CIA shows that Israel has many causes for concern about the day after Assad. It turns out that there is a fundamental gap between what the White House says about events in Syria or what will happen after Assad goes and the disturbing picture taking shape at CIA headquarters in Langley.

The CIA is engaged in an intensive race against time to acquire information about Syria’s arsenal of chemical and biological weapons. The investment is huge, ranging from field agents dispatched to reinforce CIA stations in the region to technological intelligence, satellite images and so on. In fact, everything offered by modern technology is being invested in Syria at this time.

CIA officials are working with regional intelligence bodies – such as Turkey’s and Jordan’s spy agencies – and collecting information from Syrian army defectors in order to map out the body known as the “rebels” and categorize them: Who will be cooperating with the US Administration in the future, who will be serving the interests of radical Islam, and whether someone among them can be trusted on the chemical weapons issue.

This intelligence information prompted several leaks, which apparently reflect reality. One of them referred to the possibility that Jordanian commandoes would take over Syria’s chemical and biological sites. The second referred to the possibility that Israel will be bombing these sites. Yet another report revealed that the US Administration formulated contingency plans for taking over border crossings, airports and seaports in Syria to prevent the transfer of chemical and biological weapons and nab fleeing terrorists.

Here we can add another assumption: The assassination of top Syrian defense officials was not necessarily carried out by the rebels. This story has too many hallmarks of a blow delivered by an orderly spy agency capable of penetrating through the security around Syria’s top brass. Turkish intelligence, for example, has the abilities and also the interest – in conjunction with the Americans – to avenge the downing of the Turkish jet by the Syrians.

No new Syria

One of the products of CIA collection efforts is a problematic opinion about the rebels. Firstly, says the spy agency, the number of rebels is smaller than what is perceived in the West. Secondly, the rebel leadership was massively infiltrated by radical Muslim Brotherhood elements. Some of the rebels have a radical agenda, both politically and religiously, which is incommensurate with what someone in the White House thinks.

Moreover, as the rebels are still not shying away from using cellular phones, CIA agents have been able to report that some of the massacres in Syria in the past year were carried out by elements that were not activated by the Assad regime.

And so, while the White House is trying to cultivate a group of states that would endorse the new Syria, CIA officials warn: Not only will there be no new, modern Syria, there is a chance it will be a very old Syria, similar to the current Egyptian model or to the Iraqi model, where nobody knows who controls what. The states who offer financial and military support to the rebels have no idea who they’re supporting.

The US Administration had a vision for Syria. The Americans wanted the Baath party to continue running the country. This party is indeed headed by an Alawite, but mostly comprises Sunnis. The Americans wanted to see a Sunni regime in Syria that has an alliance with Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Yet none of this vision materialized. What is left for the Americans is to continue reciting the mantra whereby Assad needs to be toppled because of his brutality, ties with Iran and so on.

For the Americans, the day after Assad can bring unpleasant realities and strategic difficulties. For Israel, the day after Assad is a critical matter. Muslim Brotherhood on the Egypt border, Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza, Muslim Brotherhood on the Syria border, Hezbollah on the Lebanon border – this is a nightmare that could materialize.

Regional Goliath still deadly

Op-ed: Anti-Israel forces in Sinai, Syria and Lebanon are less visible but just as committed to Jewish state’s destruction

Riccardo Dugulin

August 5, 2012

How did Israel shift from being the Middle Eastern David to the regional Goliath? When talking to people in Europe, North America or the Near East, the perception is that the Israeli Defense Forces are so superior to their enemies and adversaries that they no longer represent a weak state of approximately 7.5 million people threatened by virtually every nation surrounding it.

Since the first intifada, there is a tendency to look at Israel as a military giant in a region of crippled armies and ragged militias. If the technological and structural superiority of the Israeli military is not to be questioned, the previously stated judgment is likely to lead to strategic miscalculations, as the new security paradigm that is likely to emerge from the shifts occurring in the Middle East will not favor the security of the Jewish State.

The giant is no longer represented by a multitude of conventional armies led by governments, presidents and kings. Goliath finds today his home in the grey zones left unchecked by weak and failing states. He is bred in the heart of a generation that is as much frustrated by his own government as it is hateful towards Israel. The direct and close enemy is no longer made of armored divisions and assault aircraft, but of a radicalized youth that may not care about strategic victories as long as it inflicts unsustainable damages.

Israel may well be effectively surrounded in the two coming years. The northern border is already under the threat of an emboldened Hezbollah, whose arsenal has been fed by an Iranian imperialist foreign policy. The Party of God is now able to stage both pinpoint missile strikes and inaccurate rocket barrages. It is in possession of high performance anti-tank, anti-aircraft and anti-ship weaponry and is in the process of infiltrating and controlling the main Lebanese power structures. In addition to Hezbollah, Hamas remains a constant threat with its harassing rocket and mortar fire.

If the two self-proclaimed “resistance” movements have been a stable part of the terrorist threat to Israel in the last three decades, recent developments increase the number of variables present in the security equation. A virtually unchallenged presence of al-Qaeda operatives and radical elements in the Sinai Peninsula, backed by an increased visibility of the Egyptian society’s belligerence toward Israelis, is rapidly turning the Sinai into a staging area for offensive raids against the southern border.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that since the fall of Colonel Gaddafi, heavy weaponry and possibly a small number of Scud-B missiles have been transported by regional jihadi networks to the Sinai region. The most likely developments consist of an escalation in low intensity harassment of Israeli security personnel and terrorist attacks targeting civilians inside Israeli territory. Such a situation creates a difficult equilibrium as the Israeli Defense Forces struggle to devise a strategy in which they could effectively pursue and deter enemies using the Egyptian territory as an operating base.

The much debated increase in al-Qaeda and local Jihadi involvement in the Syrian crisis is expected to spur further concerns. As soon as the regime will effectively lose its grip over the country, competing factions are likely to battle for domestic and regional recognition. Such a process will without any doubt include attempts to attack Israel. A day after Assad’s regime collapses, the northern border will experience the same situation the southern border has known for a years. The increased presence of foreign fighters with improved weaponry and a need to prove themselves, along with Israel’s dilemma regarding how to respond to the threat without starting a regional conflict, will define the domestic security paradigm in the short to medium term.

A third and last point concerns the existence of a safe haven for terrorist movements and organizations. In the past, the direct enemies of Israel could be crushed on the battlefield, as there was virtually only a border to cross. The more significant role played by Iran and especially by the Al Quds Brigades in fostering, training, financing and arming terrorist organizations worldwide with the sole intent to weaken Israel effectively provides the Jewish State’s enemies with a rear base which cannot be truly damaged unless international actions are taken

After the Arab awakening and the subsequent changes the whole region is undergoing, Israel is still David, surrounded by forces which are not only are committed to fight it but are acquiring the necessary capabilities and manpower to do so. Goliath is today less visible and no longer protected by armor and a shield, and he may not be as tall as imagined, but he remains just as deadly and dangerous to the Jewish State. This new security paradigm requires original strategic thinking and the innovative spirit and faith that enabled David to beat Goliath with five stones and a sling shot.

Syria PM defects, joins opposition

In Statement, Riyad Hijab says defected from ‘terrorist regime’ and joined ranks of ‘freedom revolution’; rebels say three other ministers also defected

News Agencies

Published August 6, 2012

Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Hijab has been sacked, state television reported on Monday, and an official source in Amman said he has defected with his family to neighboring Jordan.

Syrian state TV announced Hijab’s dismissal as government forces appeared to prepare a ground assault to clear battered rebels from Aleppo, the country’s biggest city.

“I announce today my defection from the killing and terrorist regime and I announce that I have joined the ranks of the freedom and dignity revolution. I announce that I am from today a soldier in this blessed revolution,” Hijab, 56, said in a statement read in his name by the spokesman.

He said his defection comes at a time “when Syria is passing through the most difficult war crimes, genocide, and barbaric killings and massacres against unarmed citizens.”

President Bashar Assad appointed Hijab, a former agriculture minister, as prime minister only in June following a parliamentary election which authorities said was a step towards political reform but which opponents dismissed as a sham.

“Hijab is in Jordan with his family,” said the Jordanian official source, who did not want to be further identified.

Syrian TV said Omar Ghalawanji, who was previously a deputy prime minister, had been appointed to lead a temporary caretaker government on Monday.

A member of the Syrian opposition in Jordan said Hijab, his family, two ministers and three army officers have been in the Hashemite Kingdom since Sunday night.

Hijab is the highest-level government official to defect since the uprising against Assad’s authoritarian rule began 17 months ago. The other ministers’ identities were not immediately known.

Mohammad Otari, who identified himself as a spokesman for Hijab, urged other Syrians to join the defecting ministers.

Speaking on Al-Jazeera TV he said, “Don’t be scared. Defect from this criminal regime.

Otari said Hijab is now a “soldier” of the revolution and added that his defection was planned for more than two months. He said the minister was now in a safe place, adding that Hijab took the job two months ago because the regime gave him a choice: Be killed or accept the post.

Otari said Hijab is from eastern province of Deir el-Zour from the Sikhni tribe. He said Hijab defected along with 10 families who are his relatives, adding that some of them held government posts including in various ministries.

Earlier in the day, a bomb blast hit the Damascus headquarters of Syria’s state broadcaster as troops backed by fighter jets kept up an offensive against the last rebel bastion in the capital.

The bomb exploded on the third floor of the state television and radio building, state TV said. However, while the rebels may have struck a symbolic blow in their uprising against Assad, Information Minister Omran Zoabi said none of the injuries was serious, and state TV continued broadcasting.

The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria has a killing bone to pick with the descendants of Hafez al Assad who massacred some 20,000 Sunni Muslims in 1982 in Hama, and many other Sunnis in northern Syria. His son, President Bashar Assad, and his Alawite sect, are a target of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a functional part of the many Islamist groups warring against the Syrian dictator.

Egyptian Film Director Khaled Youssef: The Muslim Brotherhood Might Make Us Miss the Days of Hitler

Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian film director Khaled Youssef, which aired on Al-Kahera Wal-Nas TV on July 30, 2012.

Interviewer: Do you think that a day will come when you will miss the days of Mubarak?

Khaled Youssef: That won’t happen, but if we let [the Muslim Brotherhood] do whatever they want, we will eventually miss the days of Hitler. I have faith, however, in the will of the Egyptian people, who will not let them do whatever they want to us.

Interviewer: Are you comparing the Muslim Brotherhood to the Nazis?

Khaled Youssef: I didn’t say the Nazis. I said Hitler. I said that we will miss the days of… If they ever feel that the people has no will of its own, they will do things to us that are worse than what Hitler did. I am responsible for what I am saying.

Muslim Brotherhood establishes militia inside Syria

The Muslim Brotherhood has established its own militia inside Syria as the country’s rebels fracture between radical Islamists and their rivals, commanders and gun-runners have told The Daily Telegraph.

By Ruth Sherlock, Richard Spencer in Beirut

6:48 PM BST 03 Aug 2012

Calling itself the “Armed Men of the Muslim Brotherhood”, the militia has a presence in Damascus as well as opposition hot spots like Homs and Idlib. One of their organisers, who called himself Abu Hamza, said that he started the movement along with a member of the Syrian National Council (SNC), the opposition alliance.

The Syrian wing of the Muslim Brotherhood has been revitalised by the organisation’s success in Egypt, where it won both parliamentary and presidential elections.

In the early days of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, secular and Islamist rebels were both prepared to fight under the FSA’s banner and recognise the SNC as their political masters.

But the FSA, dominated by defectors from the regime’s army, has fallen out with the SNC, whose leaders are in exile. It now has its own political front, the Syrian Support Group (SSG). This split has divided the revolution’s main international backers, with Saudi Arabia supporting the FSA and Qatar moving closer to the SNC and the Islamist militias.

The divisions are affecting operations on the ground: competing militias co-operate when necessary but otherwise disavow each other. “I would take it as an insult if you described me as FSA,” said Abu Bakri, a front line commander of an Islamist militia in Aleppo calling itself the Abu Emara Battalion.

One activist described how he was working with Sunni politicians in Lebanon to buy arms for the FSA with Saudi money.

A member of the FSA command centre, located in neighbouring Turkey, told the Daily Telegraph that they have this week received large consignments of ammunition, machine guns and anti-tank missiles. At one point Saudi Arabia and Qatar were both funding the FSA, with the command centre receiving up to $3 million in cash every month. But the operative said the situation had changed.

“Now we are not working with the Qataris because they made so many mistakes supporting other groups.”

But the fracturing of the armed opposition raises the prospect of post-Assad Syria becoming a battleground. “This adds to the fragmentation and tones down the credibility of the opposition,” said Louay Sakka, the SSG’s Executive Director. “Supporters should go through the proper channel of the Free Syrian Army military council rather than build their own militias.”

Amr al-Azm, a Syrian-American academic who was briefly on the SNC, said that Syria risked the same kind of disintegration that was set in motion by Saddam Hussein’s downfall in neighbouring Iraq. The West’s decision to limit its involvement in the Syrian conflict – and refrain from supplying lethal weapons – had left a gap for the Islamists to fill.

“By playing to your own fears, you are making them come true,” said Mr Azm. “By not intervening, you are forcing people to go those who have resources. No one wants to go to al-Qaeda, but if you are down to your last five bullets and someone asks you to say ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is greatest) five times, you do it.”

UN vote undermines peace efforts in Syria: Russia

Last Updated: Saturday, August 04, 2012, 09:

Zeenews Bureau

New York: Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, on Friday condemned a UN General Assembly resolution on Syria.

The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly denounced Syria’s crackdown in a symbolic effort meant to push the deadlocked Security Council and the world at large into action on stopping the civil war.

Talking to reporters, Churkin said the resolution was one-sided and undermined peace efforts in the war-torn Syria, adding that it supported the armed opposition.

The resolution, which passed by 133 votes to 12 with 31 abstentions, was hailed by Western nations.

Before the vote, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon accused the Syrian regime of possible war crimes and drew comparisons between the failure to act in Syria with the international community’s failure to protect people from past genocide in Srebrenica and Rwanda.

“The conflict in Syria is a test of everything this organisation stands for,” Ban said. “I do not want today’s United Nations to fail that test.”

Syrian Ambassador Bashar Ja’afari called the resolution’s main sponsors, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, “despotic oligarchies”.

Revelation 13:2 – And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

John is writing in the days of Daniel’s fourth beast, which was prophesied by Daniel more than 600 years before John wrote the Book of Revelation. The fourth beast was, of course, the old Roman Empire.

Daniel 7:7 – After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

Daniel predicted the series of beast empires in advance, listing then chronologically as they were to arise. But John, under the rule of the fourth beast in his day, lists them in reverse order as they had already occurred in the past. The third beast had fallen to the fourth beast long before John was born, and was, of course, the vast Macedonian or Grecian Empire of Alexander the Great.

Daniel 7:6 – After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

The four wings forecasted the rapid spread of the Macedonian Empire to the four winds of the north, south, east, and west. It was symbolized as a leopard, which gave a preview of the quickness with which it would advance against much greater numerical forces. The leopard is well known for its cunning in taking a prey, as was the character of Alexander as he took his prey, the Persian Empire of Darius. The four heads forecasted the division of Alexander’s vast empire after he dropped dead at a young age. It was divided into four geographical sections. They eventually became known as the territories under the rule of Thrace, Macedonia, Syria, and Egypt.

Daniel 7:5 – And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

The second beast empire, which was overrun by Alexander’s armies, was the Persian Empire. It was pictured as a bear because of its great size and slowness of movement when compared with that of a leopard. It was this characteristic that allowed the lightning leopard like strikes of Alexander to defeat it. At first it had two sides, a Persian side, and a Meade side, and was known as the Empire of the Meade and the Persians. But eventually the Persian side rose up and became the more powerful side, such that it became simply the Persian Empire. The three ribs in the bear’s mouth stand for the three kingdoms of Lydia, Babylon, and Egypt, which formed a Triple Alliance to stop the Persian conquests, but were destroyed by the bear.

Daniel 7:2-4 – Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. [3] And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. [4] The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

The great sea is the Mediterranean Sea, which is the area that these four great beasts affected in their day and, as such, are pictured as rising out of it. The first of the empires, which was symbolized as a lion by Daniel, was the Babylonian Empire. It fell to the Empire of the Meade and the Persians at the close of Daniel’s life, precisely as he had predicted in God’s word.

So, Daniel goes prophetically forward from the first beast to the fourth, while John goes historically backward from the fourth beast to the first. Then both Daniel and John go forward from the Roman Empire to the future 10 horned empire of the man we call the antichrist.

Daniel 7:8 – I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Revelation 17:12 – And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

Daniel 7:20,21 – And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. [21] I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

Russian warships head for Syria

Russian media reports ships carry more than 260 marines, and Al Assad regime is sinking fast

By Layelle Saad, Editor, GCC/Middle East

Published: 18:39 August 3, 2012

Gulf News

Dubai Three large Russian warships were heading for the Syrian port of Tartus a day after UN Envoy to Syria Kofi Annan quit his role as mediator and called for the Syrian President to step down.

The ships were carrying over 260 marines, according to reports in the Russian media. The move signalled a growing unease of Syria’s staunchest ally, Russia, who sees the regime of Bashar Al Assad sinking fast, with sources saying Russia has no more appealing options.

However Russia has denied the claims. Russia’s Defence Ministry said there were no plans for the vessels to dock in the war-torn country.

Russia is a strong ally of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad whose country is Moscow’s main foothold in the Middle East.

Annan, writing in the Financial Times, called on Moscow and Washington to shoulder responsibility for saving Syria from “catastrophic” civil war. Violence has spiralled out of control in recent weeks as the Syrian army struggles to regain territory lost to the rebels. Protesters in Aleppo took to the streets yesterday to demand death for Al Assad even as violence raged there and 15 people were killed nationwide, a watchdog said.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in the Al Shaar neighbourhood of the country’s economic capital, chanting: “The people want the execution of Bashar!” and “The people want freedom and peace,” an AFP reporter saw.

Heavy fighting in Damascus and Aleppo prompted UN High Commission for Refugees Antonio Guterres to warn of a mass exodus of Syrians from the country.“We all have seen crises of this nature in different parts of the world, let’s hope that this doesn’t evolve into the kind of gigantic outflows we have witnessed in Afghanistan or Iraq,” he said yesterday.

Activists were still counting the toll from Thursday, one of the bloodiest days in the uprising, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting over 179 people. A Palestinian refugee camp was slammed with mortar fire also late Thursday killing 21 people. The UN General Assembly was preparing to vote on a new Arab-sponsored resolution condemning Syria’s use of heavy weapons. While the vote is largely symbolic, it reflects a growing frustration Russia and China for blocking resolutions condemning the Syrian regime.

Big powers move in on Syria: Russian troops for Tartus. US forces ready to go

DEBKAfile Special Report

June 15, 2012, 7:39 PM (GMT+02:00)

A contingent of Russian special forces is on its way to Syria to guard the Russian navy’s deep-water port at the Syria’s Mediterranean coastal town of Tartus, Pentagon officials informed US NBC TV Friday, June 15. They are coming by ship. According to DEBKAfile’s sources, the contingent is made up of naval marines and is due to land in Syria in the coming hours.

In a separate and earlier announcement, US Defense Department sources in Washington reported that the US military had completed its own planning for a variety of US operations against Syria, or for assisting neighboring countries in the event action was ordered – a reference, according to our sources, to Turkey, Jordan and Israel.

The Syrian civil war is now moving into a new phase of major power military intervention, say DEBKAfile’s military sources. Moscow, by sending troops to Syria without UN Security Council approval, has set up a precedent for the United States, the European Union and Arab governments to follow. They all held back from sending troops to Syria because all motions to apply force for halting the bloodshed in Syria was blocked in the UN body.

According to US military sources, in recent weeks, the Pentagon has finalized its assessment of what types of units would be needed and how many troops. The military planning includes a scenario for a no-fly zone as well as protecting chemical and biological sites. The U.S. Navy is maintaining a presence of three surface combatants and a submarine in the eastern Mediterranean to conduct electronic surveillance and reconnaissance on the Syrian regime, a senior Pentagon official said.

Atomic War in Israel – Yes or No? – Number 2

More than a year ago I issued Special Prophecy Update Number 129C, titled “Atomic War in Israel, Yes or No?” I would like to reaffirm my belief in its validity in Number 2.

The original Update 129C, issued July 23, 2003, was as follows:

BEGIN QUOTE OF ARCHIVE SPECIAL PROPHECY UPDATE NR 129C

Issued July 23, 2003

“One of the main reasons I wrote three books on prophecy in the late seventies and early eighties was to establish a case advocated by teachers of the pre-World War II era. It was, simply stated, that man would not destroy the earth with his weaponry, but rather that God would destroy the earth by the use of this own power. I am certain that the horrifying changes in the topography of Israel, as well as the terrifying destruction of the antichrist’s forces at Armageddon, are by the awesome power of God, not atomic, chemical, or biological weapons of man. The lifting of the land from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem, the breaking up of Jerusalem into three sections, the splitting of the Mount of Olives, and the consuming of the flesh, tongues, and eyes of the antichrist’s men are natural phenomena unleashed by God, not by man. All the Scriptures dealing with these phenomena unleashed by God are covered in Birth Pang and Prophecy Archives.

There are many advocates of a great atomic, chemical, and biological war in Israel when the antichrist attacks 1260 days before Armageddon. It might happen at the time of Armageddon, but the initial attack will start what amounts to a non-nuclear, non-chemical, and non-biological war. So why am I so confident and outspoken about this being the case?

Israel has numerous extremely well concealed missile sites in the Negev between Beersheba and the Gulf of Aqabah.

(1) It has more than 300 nuclear, chemical, and biological warheads to mount on Jericho missiles.

(2) The Jericho is a very accurate missile, and can hit a target in any Islamic country from Morocco to Pakistan and from Turkey to Yemen.

(3) Israel has an excellent anti-missile defense to protect its array of silos, warheads, and missiles. It is able to pick up an incoming enemy missile launched from Syria before it reaches it maximum altitude.

(4) So why do I believe this array of WMD will not be unleashed by Israel when it is attacked? Because the Israeli War Contingency Plan of Israel directs that WMD will not be launched against a foreign nation unless they are first launched against Israel.

(5) So how do I know the Islamic countries will not launch WMD in their initial attack? All of them are well aware of what is listed in (1) through (5)! The former Soviet Union, which it existed, shared Israeli intelligence information with Syria, which it collected over a long period of time from its hundreds of spy satellites it launched from pads between Moscow and the White Sea, and on the eastern side of the Aral Sea. Syria, in turn, has shared it with some of the other Islamic countries around Israel. Only a leader possessed of rank insanity would ever launch WMD first against Israel, which is why I was so relieved when Saddam Hussein was taken out of the way.

Many believe the United States will quickly rush to the aid of Israel, and, as the world’s greatest power, will immediately deliver her from any kind of attack she can’t handle. There are two problems with this idea: (1) The United States believes Israel can defeat any Islamic attack on its own without any help from us. After all, Israel has easily done so in three previous wars and, (2) This will be a lightning Jihad, and better coordinated than any of the previous wars, and this time Israel will have a Palestinian state attacking it from within, while the other Islamic nations come in from outside its borders. It will probably last less than a couple of weeks, and Jerusalem is likely to fall within four days. By the time we decide they must have our help it will be too late, because they will have occupied most of the land from Dan to Beersheba. It would take months, as it did in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Freedom Iraq, to get enough American troops on the ground to do any good.

What was the character of Israel’s past three wars? They were all very short in duration, and they all ended abruptly in a truce. That will be the case in this war. The United States knows that the Negev is the place where Israel will flee. When we believe they are safely in the Negev, we will be more than willing to accept a truce to give us time to think about what to do, and Israel will remain trapped in the Negev for some three and one-half years.

The part played by the United States during this period of three and one-half years is interspersed throughout our Birth Pang and Prophecy Archives, with some of it in Prophecy Updates 8 through 11, 32 & 33, and 74 & 75.”

(END QUOTE OF UPDATE 129C).

(CONTINUE QUOTE OF UPDATE 187A)

Since Update 129C was issued, several noteworthy things have come to pass that reduce the likelihood of a nuclear war in the Middle East. The area is headed toward a situation where both sides will realize a nuclear war would leave the victor, or victors, in such a powerless state, that any future they might have would be desolate, and leave them in a position of great vulnerability to the rest of the oil consuming nations. Some of these noteworthy recent events, which would tend to create a standoff, such as the one that developed between the United States and the once mighty Soviet Union, are as follows:

(1) Syria now has a better Scud than the Scud B. The Scud D missile, considered to be the most sophisticated weapon of its kind, is now in the hands of the Syrian military. It is able to deliver nuclear, chemical, or biological multiple warheads to their targets in Israel from Syria.

(2) The jointly developed American-Israeli Arrow 2 missile successfully launched an Arrow 2 missile that destroyed a Scud B over the Pacific Ocean earlier this year. The Arrow 2 is designed to intercept an enemy missile before it reaches its peak altitude, far from Israeli territory. However, in a recent test against the Scud D, it failed to intercept the detached warhead. It was not a complete failure, and the results are in the process of being analyzed. Israel says it can still effectively destroy the Scud D.

(3) Syria also maintains a sizeable ballistic missile arsenal and, like Iran, is active in upgrading and expanding its capabilities.

(4) In June Iran announced it is building its first stealth missile, a rocket that can evade electronic detection. The missile was named Kowsar, in honor of the Kowsar river in paradise, which is found in the Koran, the Holy Book of Islam. Iran announced it would be capable of hitting ships and aircraft.

(5) Iran is continuing to steam toward development of its own nuclear bomb, which many believe it could develop as early as next year. It is now going underground, and spreading out its nuclear development sites in order to limit the damage that could be incurred by an Israeli air strike, like the one carried out on Iraq’s nuclear facility in 1981.

(6) Iran is manufacturing various missiles, chief among them being the Shahab-3, whose range of 1300 km (793 mi) allows it to reach Israel. It is designed to carry up to a 700-kilogram conventional warhead. But the Iranians are currently developing the Shihab 4 and 5, with ranges of 3000 km (1830 mi) and 6000 km (3660 mi), which puts all of Europe in its sights, and these both missiles will be able to carry chemical, nuclear, and biological weapons.

(7) At the same time that Iran and Syria are attempting to manufacture weapons of mass destructions, and the missiles to deliver them, they are also building up their conventional arsenal of weapons. Iran has been making its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, and fighter planes, inside its own borders for some time. They have been guided by the designs of weaponry supplied to them by North Korea, Russia, and even China in both their conventional and non-conventional programs of weaponry development. The huge payments from the Iranian oil money have, for some time, helped to keep the Russian Economy afloat, and the North Korean economy from completely collapsing.

I do not believe there will be a nuclear, biological or chemical war in the Middle East. I have long been convinced of this. It will be a great war, but only conventional weapons will be used. I will not rule out the possibility of some being used at Armageddon, but I really don’t believe they will be launched even them.

It is no secret that, if left unchecked, Iran is determined to become a global nuclear power with long range nuclear missiles that could strike Europe, plus NATO and American forces within a 3600 mile radius, and the United States and Israel are determined to not let that happen.

A MAN WHO WILL BE ABLE TO BOND CLAY & IRON

The Confusion And Chaos Being Generated In Syria

By Sunni And Shiite Funded Islamist Terrorist Groups

Is paving the way for Antichrist’s Rise in Greater Syria

As a Man Who Will be Able to Briefly Bond Clay and Iron

Long enough to Fulfill the Daniel 2 Arab 10 toes Prophecy

And keep Israel entrapped In Negev Wilderness 1260 Days

August 3, 2012

The influence of numerous Islamist terrorist groups in the Syrian civil war is growing, but they, along with the first groups that initiated the uprising a year ago, are not able to “cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.” There are far too many differences between their inter-religious radical beliefs for them to bond together. It will take a strong man who is a reformer willing to give individual group a “piece of the pie” promise initially, to cause them to surrender their power to him. I don’t know how long this process will take, but much confusion and strife will occur among the victors before this leader emerges from the wolf pack.

Daniel 2:42,43 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

Antiochus Epiphanes IV was a prototype or parallel type of the future Antichrist who I believe will soon arise in greater Syria as the final king of the long line of Syrian kings of the north in Chapter 11 of Daniel.

Daniel 11:39 – Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

Revelation 17:12,13,17 – And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. [13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. [17] For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

Daniel 11:36 – And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

No happy outcome in Syria as conflict turns into proxy war

(Last updated: August 01, 2012 06:50 PM)

By Suleiman al-Khalidi and Khaled Yacoub Owels

BEIRUT: Regional powers are pouring in money and guns, jihadists are joining rebels battling to overthrow Bashar al-Assad, while his own well-armed but hard-pressed forces are fighting back ruthlessly with combat aircraft and artillery.

Gruesome scenes of slaughtered civilians or executed rebel fighters provide daily snapshots of the worsening conflict in Syria. Video apparently showing rebels gunning down Assad militiamen in cold blood suggests the insurgents are capable of brutality to match their enemies.

After almost 17 months of revolt against the Assad dictatorship, Syria’s conflict is turning into a regional proxy war between Sunni and Shiite Islam that could splinter the country along sectarian lines unless a unified rebel leadership emerges as a credible opposition to the beleaguered government.

Few observers of Syria see any sign of an opposition ready to run the country if or when Assad and his clan, whose power base lies in the esoteric Shiite sect of Syria’s Alawite minority, lose overall control.

Some fear a Lebanon-style free-for-all, in which armed groups from different sectarian and ideological backgrounds fight for supremacy over territory, turning Syria into a patchwork that condemns its state to failure.

With the Shiite Islamic Republic of Iran behind Assad, and Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Muslim states backing the rebels, Syria could become the arena in which the regional Sunni-Shiite cold war becomes an open-ended civil war with the potential to destabilise its neighbours – Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Jordan.

“We most definitely have a proxy war in Syria,” says Ayham Kamel of the Eurasia Group political risk consultancy. “At this point of the conflict it is difficult not to say that the international dimension of the Syrian conflict precedes the domestic one.”

“Syria is an open field now. The day after Assad falls you [will] have all of these different groups with different agendas, with different allegiances, with different states supporting them yet unable to form a coherent leadership.”

What started on March 15, 2011 as an internal uprising against the Assads’ repressive 40-year rule, emulating the revolts that toppled leaders in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen, has now been transformed into an arena for foreign meddling.

Kamel believes Syria is already fragmenting, and that the Free Syrian Army, the umbrella for a plethora of armed groups fighting to overthrow Assad, is little more than a franchise of Sunni Muslim groups.

“The Free Syrian army is only a slogan. There is no unity in these rebel groups,” he argues. “To have an FSA you would need a command structure, and everybody following that command structure.” Instead, he says, “There are different groups supplied financially and militarily by different states and they are quasi-independent.”

“Different regions are controlled by different groups, whether of ideological or sectarian background, and whether Bashar’s regime remains a player, we already have a lot more players than before,” Kamel says.

“I don’t discount the possibility that you (will) have different rebel groups struggling with each other for control of territory.”

Close watchers of Syria say the real danger is of a prolonged and very bloody civil war and a sectarian struggle, exacerbated by the lack of a unified and credible opposition.

“I don’t think there is anybody to take over,” said George Joffe, a Middle East expert at Cambridge University. “The really big problem is that there is no credible opposition.”

“How do you bring them together, how do you get them to collaborate at this late stage because they are diametrically opposed on what should be done?” he said.

He is the living stone who breaks all Daniel 2 Kingdoms.

Man’s Kingdoms from Nimrod to Antichrist Shall Crumble.

August 2, 2012

http://www.tribulationperiod.com/

The first biblical kingdom of man in the Euphrates cradle of civilization was established by Nimrod – The last will soon begin to be formed in the same cradle by the man of sin, the Islamic Antichrist.

Genesis 10:8-10 – And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. [9] He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord. [10] And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

All the fleshly expertise of the historical kingdoms built by man from Nimrod through the final Islamic Caliphate of Antichrist, including the Daniel gold Babylon, the silver Persian, the bronze Grecian, the iron Roman, and the Umayyad clay and iron, will be incorporated in the Antichrist’s final Kingdom. But the 2nd Advent of King Jesus will come down on the feet of the statue as the stone that will cause it to fall and crumble, to be replaced by the one Kingdom of God in Christ.

Daniel 2:42-44 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. [44] And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Luke 21:27 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Micah 5:4-7 – And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. [5] And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. [6] And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders. [7] And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

Micah 4:6,7 – In that day, saith the Lord, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted; [7] And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

Revelation 11:15 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Genesis 3:15 – And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Revelation 12:17 – And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Luke 21:27 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

I Peter 2:4 – To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

Daniel 2:45 – Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

Revelation 11:18 – And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Revelation19:15-21 – And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. [17] And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; [18] That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. [19] And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Iran brings forward nuclear timetable

Analysis: If Islamic Republic maintains current pace of uranium enrichment at Natanz, Fordo facilities, it can become nuclear power in two years unless stopped

Ron Ben-Yishai

July 30, 2012

Iran does not have a nuclear bomb, but if it continues to enrich uranium pace at the current pace, it will become a “nuclear threshold” country within a year. According to intelligence officials, there is a possibility that between mid-2014 and the end of that year the Islamic Republic will become a nuclear power with more than one bomb in its arsenal.

To understand how Iran is advancing its nuclear program one must first understand how a nuclear warhead is produced.

The production of a nuclear warhead similar to bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima requires some 25 kilos (55 pounds) of highly-enriched natural uranium containing +90% U-235, the fissile isotope of uranium

The most difficult stage in this process is enriching uranium to a low concentration level (LEU). One nuclear bomb requires 1,600 kilos (3,530 pounds) of low-enriched uranium that has a 3.5-5% concentration of U-235. The next stage is enriching the uranium to a 20% concentration level. Between 220 and 260 kilos (485-573 pounds) of 20% enriched uranium are required to produce weapons grade uranium, which must contain highly enriched uranium (HEU) with an isotopic concentration greater than 90% U-235. Upon reaching this stage, it takes only a few months to produce enough HEU for a number of nuclear bombs.

• To date, Iran has produced some 6,600 kg (14,550 pounds) of LEU. If the enrichment process continues, it will have enough HEU to build four or five nuclear warheads.

• Iran has already advanced to the next stage and has enriched 1,000 kg (2,200 pounds) of LEU to a fissile concentration of 20%. Currently the Islamic Republic possesses some 160 kg (352 pounds) of 20% enriched uranium (about 100 kg, or 220 pounds less than the amount needed for a nuclear bomb).

• The Iranians have some 10,600 centrifuges in two nuclear plants in Natanz and Fordo. Between 328 and 348 of these centrifuges are already active. The Pakistani-made centrifuges in Natanz, which are less advanced, are mostly used to produce LEU. The centrifuges are concentrated in underground halls that are vulnerable to bombs both Israel and the US possess. But the Natanz plant also contains 164-174 advanced IR-1 Iranian –made centrifuges capable of producing 20% enriched uranium. The centrifuges in Natanz produce four kilos (nine pounds) of uranium enriched to 20% each month. The Fordo centrifuges produce about eight kilos (about 18 pounds) of uranium enriched to 20% every month.

The data indicate that Iran has significantly increased the pace of its uranium enrichment over the past four months. Currently the Islamic Republic produces 230 kg (507 pounds) of LEU each month and 12 kg (about 26 pounds) of uranium enriched to a fissile concentration of 20%.

Most of the efforts to speed up the enrichment process are concentrated in Fordo, where Iran will eventually produce weapons grade uranium if Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei gives the order to do so. In order to shorten the uranium enrichment process, Iran is developing two types of centrifuges, IR-2 and IR-4. Fortunately, Iranian engineers have run into some technical difficulties, and have yet to be able to activate the centrifuges.

The facility in Fordo is situated inside a mountain and is protected by layers of rock. The US Air Force has yet to develop a bomb capable of penetrating the plant. It appears that the Iranians are willing to “sacrifice” the facility in Natanz in the event of an American or Israeli strike.

Should the Iranians continue to enrich uranium at the current pace, they will have some 260 kg (about 570 pounds) of uranium refined to a fissile concentration of 20% in January or February of 2013. With this amount, it would take Iran only about two months to produce weapons grade uranium for a nuclear warhead or bomb – a “nuclear threshold” situation. Western intelligence officials have not identified any “technological bottleneck” that can prevent Iran from enriching uranium to a fissile concentration of +90%, meaning that it could theoretically become a nuclear power by mid-2014 or a few months later

Such a nuclear “breakthrough” may result in a military confrontation with the US or other countries and put the regime in Tehran at risk. Iran believes that a reliable nuclear arsenal containing a number of nuclear warheads would prevent a military strike and even serve as a bargaining chip to lift the harsh economic sanctions imposed by the West. This is why Khamenei – before deciding on a nuclear “breakthrough” – will likely demand that Iran produce enough 20% enriched uranium for four nuclear warheads.

It is also very reasonable to assume that Tehran is secretly developing nuclear warheads which can be mounted on ballistic missiles already in its possession and on more accurate long-range missiles that are most likely being developed. Iran already possesses missiles with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles) that are capable of reaching Eastern Europe.

According to the Pentagon, in 2015 Iran will have missiles that can also pose a direct threat to the US.

Nuclear Umbrella Insures Conventional War!

I have taught for 30+ years – No Nuclear War,

The Next Middle East War Will Be Conventional,

Russia & China provide a nuclear umbrella to Iran,

While America provides a nuclear umbrella to Israel,

Allowing Islamic and Israel forces a conventional War.

Ten Horns attack Israel 1260 days before Armageddon,

Russia, China, & Europe arrive at the Armageddon Battle!

All Oceans & Seas will be Filled with Ships and Submarines,

With atomic umbrella capabilities via a few Gentile Countries,

This nuclear umbrella will be in place as it was in old Cold War,

Such that Daniel’s 10 horns and Israel will fight non-nuclear War,

No Non-Arab or Non-Jew Troops will Directly Fight till Armageddon.

Obama to offer Israel ‘nuclear umbrella’ against Iranian nuke attack

By Aluf Benn, Haaretz Correspondent

December 11, 2008

The U.S. will offer Israel a “nuclear umbrella” against the threat of a nuclear attack by Iran. The U.S. will declare that an attack on Israel by Tehran would result in a devastating U.S. nuclear response against Iran.

But America’s nuclear guarantee to Israel could also be interpreted as a sign the U.S. believes Iran will eventually acquire nuclear arms.

Secretary of state-designate Hillary Clinton had raised the idea of a nuclear guarantee to Israel during her campaign for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidency. During a debate with Obama in April, Clinton said that Israel and Arab countries must be given “deterrent backing.” She added, “Iran must know that an attack on Israel will draw a massive response.”

Clinton also proposed that the American nuclear umbrella be extended to other countries in the region, like Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, if they agree to relinquish their own nuclear ambitions.

According to the same source, the nuclear guarantee would be backed by a new and improved Israeli anti-ballistic missile system. The Bush administration took the first step by deploying an early-warning radar system in the Negev, which hones the ability to detect Iranian ballistic missiles.
