WHEN ISRAEL IS SUDDENLY VICIOUSLY ATTACKED IN THE SURPRISE LIGHTNING JIHAD BLITZKRIEG FROM ITS NORTH, WHY DOESN’T THE U.S. ATTACK THE ISLAMIC GROUP OF NATIONS THAT ARE ATTACKING HER?

This is a question I have been asked over and over again for a long time.  I was asked again on e-mail recently, and this time, rather than answering the query privately, I decided to make it a prophecy update, so that that in future I could just attach this update to any new query and save myself repeating it again.

The one thing that I learned in the National Security Agency which has been, is, and always will be the motivating factor in any decision made by any country, including the United States, may be simply stated in two words: NATIONAL INTEREST.  Many will cry out and say, not so, we did it for humanitarian reasons, we did it to secure justice, we did it out of compassion, we did it out of love, we did it because we love freedom, we did it because we are a great nation: and on and on shall come statements from every realm of society, from “bleeding” liberal hearts to the “hardened” hearts of the extreme right, all giving different reasons as to why this country did something.  But the truth of the matter is that, in the end, we always did it for what amounted to OUR NATIONAL INTEREST.

The United States has quick response attack naval and marine forces in position at all times to put down a banana republic type of minor conflict on short notice.  But in order to conduct a successful operation again a Jihad the magnitude of the coming attack of many nations against Israel, we would require some time to get enough regular ground troops in place to have a real hope of victory.  It took us a very long time to get enough men and equipment into the Middle East to insure success in our victory against Iraq.  The Scriptures indicate that 10 Islamic nations will be led by the Antichrist, and that they will quickly take Jerusalem and drive Israel into the Negev.  When Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran come pouring southward on both sides of the Samarian mountains, and the Palestinians break out in all directions internally from within the enclosed buffer zone, chaos will reign supreme from Dan to Beersheba.  There will be so much inner mingling of the attack forces of Israel and those of the enemy with the fleeing civilian population that air strikes would kill as many on one side as the other.  Since the U.S. is fully aware of the Israel War Contingency Plan to evacuate as much of the population as possible to the Negev if overrun from the north, it will set in shock and indecision until it is too late to do anything except help to evacuate some of the coastal population from Tel Aviv to Haifa into the Negev, and to air lift supplies into the Negev.  The aircraft of the Islamic nations will be under orders not to fire on western power’s aircraft unless fired upon, because the one thing they will not want is for the U.S. to get actively engaged with them in an all out war.  Once Israel has evacuated as much of its population into the Negev as possible, and the U.S. sees that the Arabs are not going past Beersheba, we will accept the status quo as best for all.  Why? Because it will satisfy our NATIONAL INTEREST!  How?  Israel will be safe and we shall still be able to receive Arab Oil shipments.

U.S. War Games Sees Perils of Israel Strike Against Iran

The results of the war game were particularly troubling to Gen. James N. Mattis, who commands all American forces in the Middle East, Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia, according to officials who either participated in the Central Command exercise or who were briefed on the results and spoke on condition of anonymity because of its classified nature. When the exercise had concluded earlier this month, according to the officials, General Mattis told aides that an Israeli first strike would be likely to have dire consequences across the region and for United States forces there.

The two-week war game, called Internal Look, played out a narrative in which the United States found it was pulled into the conflict after Iranian missiles struck a Navy warship in the Persian Gulf, killing about 200 Americans, according to officials with knowledge of the exercise. The United States then retaliated by carrying out its own strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The initial Israeli attack was assessed to have set back the Iranian nuclear program by roughly a year, and the subsequent American strikes did not slow the Iranian nuclear program by more than an additional two years. However, other Pentagon planners have said that America’s arsenal of long-range bombers, refueling aircraft and precision missiles could do far more damage to the Iranian nuclear program — if President Obama were to decide on a full-scale retaliation.

The exercise was designed specifically to test internal military communications and coordination among battle staffs in the Pentagon, Tampa, Fla., where the headquarters of the Central Command is located, and in the Persian Gulf in the aftermath of an Israeli strike. But the exercise was written to assess a pressing, potential, real-world situation.

In the end, the war game reinforced to military officials the unpredictable and uncontrollable nature of a strike by Israel, and a counterstrike by Iran, the officials said.

American and Israeli intelligence services broadly agree on the progress Iran has made to enrich uranium. But they disagree on how much time there would be to prevent Iran from building a weapon if leaders in Tehran decided to go ahead with one.

With the Israelis saying publicly that the window to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb is closing,  American officials see an Israeli attack on Iran within the next year as a  possibility. They have said privately that they believe that Israel would probably give the United States little or no warning should Israeli officials make the decision to strike Iranian nuclear sites.

Officials said that, under the chain of events in the war game, Iran believed that Israel and the United States were partners in any strike against Iranian nuclear sites and therefore considered American military forces in the Persian Gulf as complicit in the attack.

Iranian jets chased Israeli warplanes after the attack, and Iranians launched missiles at an American warship in the Persian Gulf, viewed as an act of war that allowed an American retaliation.

Internal Look has long been one of Central Command’s most significant planning exercises, and is carried out about twice a year to assess how the headquarters, its staff and command posts in the region would respond to various real-world situations.

Over the years, it has been used to prepare for various wars in the Middle East. According to the defense Web site GlobalSecurity.org, military planners during the cold war used Internal Look to prepare for a move by the Soviet Union to seize Iranian oil fields. Assad to Anan: Syrian missiles will pre-empt any military intervention

The Middle East has unknowingly been living for ten days under threat of a regional war, which debkafile’s military sources disclose was delivered by Syrian president Bashar Assad to UN-Arab League peace envoy Kofi Annan when they first met Saturday, March 10. Assad warned him in no uncertain terms that Syria was ready to unleash its missiles against any country preparing for military intervention in Syria before they moved.

While not mentioning them by name, the Syrian ruler was referring to Britain, France, Norway, Holland and Italy whose navies and air forces were last week drawn up ready for action in positions in the eastern Mediterranean and bases in the Middle East, including the Royal Air Force Akrotiri facility in Cyprus.

A Western military source reported to debkafile Monday night, March 19 that those European forces were standing ready to cordon off certain Syrian regions and cities as “security zones” off limits to Syrian units including its air force.

Cruising opposite the Syrian coast are the USS Enterprise and the French Charles de Gaulle, both aircraft carriers. They are part of the combat disposition the West has arrayed against Iran and from their Mediterranean posts would take part in a military confrontation erupting in the Persian Gulf.

In his conversation with Annan,Turkey was the only foe Assad named specifically as his first target for a pre-emptive missile assault. He stressed he would have no qualms about attacking Turkey.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyep Erdogan is due to set out next week on a visit to Seoul where he will rendezvous with US President Barack Obama, possibly on March 28,  for policy alignment on the Iranian nuclear threat and the year-old Syrian crisis. Our Washington sources report that Obama has set aside six hours for his conversation with Erdogan.

From the South Korean capital, the Turkish leader is scheduled to fly straight to Tehran. The primary Middle East issues, a nuclear Iran and the Syrian impasse. are therefore destined to reach a critical point in the coming days.

This may partly explain the announcement from, Russian Black Sea headquarters at Sevastopol Monday that two Russian naval vessels had put into the Syrian port of Tartus. The vessels’ mission and names were not disclosed, excepting that one carried a unit of “anti-terrorist marines” and the other was a military tanker which joined a Russian naval reconnaissance and surveillance ship already tied up in Tartus.

Concerning the “God of forces,” the following three paragraph quote from America

Israel Prophecy, it certainly views the subject of verse 38 as being fond of enforcing his will on others by force.

Mohammed was said to spread, through warfare, the rules of Islam.  Mohammed became increasingly violent during his career and spent 10 years in Medina creating an army to overthrow his homeland, Mecca, after he was ran off by the pagans in 622 AD.  He killed thousands of people and subdued Arabia through war.  Muslims are encouraged to commit acts of heroism in combat.  They are promised that those who kill and are killed will be rewarded with paradise.  This is the basis for suicide bombers.  They believe that since they are killing while they are killed that the sin of suicide is covered by the martyrdom of their action and, as such, they will be rewarded in heaven.  Islam is a religion of political rule, a system of government.  It is not about a personal relationship with Allah, it is about bringing the world under submission to its rule.

The Quran (Koran) was written over time during the life of Mohammed (conveyed or recited by him).  He started as a peaceful man, but as time went on he changed many of his values.  As he became increasingly violent, his writings matched his attitude.  The correct interpretation of the Quran is to take any conflict in doctrine, of which there is a whole lot, and replace an older verse with the latest one, supplanting it’s meaning with the more recent version in a process called abrogation.  The problem is that the Quran is compiled from the longest Sura to the shortest, so it’s nearly impossible to know which conflicting verse to believe or obey.  The Muslims have a whole committee of scholars to interpret the Quran and decide which verses were written first and the succession of them to the last.

If you think Islam is a religion of peace, as they claim, just look at all the wars they are involved in today, in Europe, China, Africa, etc., and the mindset of Muslims as a whole as they chant “Death to Israel, Death to America”, while they are working toward their goal of subduing the world.  Islam is a religion of peace only when they have conquered the world and subjected it to the rule of Islam. Also, if the son of the ruler of Hamas says that Islam has no moderates, then I believe him.

A GOD WHOM HIS FATHERS KNEW NOT

The God of the early patriarchal descendants of Ishmael never heard of Allah until Muhammad showed up many years after the New Testament was canonized.     

The antichrist will be a descendent of Abraham, but he will have no regard for the God of Abraham through Jacob, the man Israel.  He will rise out of the Islamic faith through Ishmael, but in the end will claim to be the god of gods, perhaps even Allah incarnate, thereby magnifying himself above all gods, since Islam considers Allah to be the one and only supreme God.

HE HONOURS ALLAH WTH GOLD, AND SILVER, AND WITH PRECIOUS STONES, AND PLEASANT THINGS.

Antichrist will honor Allah with the spoils of the war used to build up his Caliphate.

Daniel 11:42,43 – He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. [43] But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

DANIEL 11:39 –Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

The Hebrew word for “strong holds” means “fortified places, highly strengthened fortresses.”  I believe it refers to the fortresses of Daniel’s 10 horns led by antichrist. Daniel refers to it as a “strange” god, because Allah was not known in either the Old or the New Testaments.  Antichrist will divide the land he captures between the 10 horns that initially helped him.  All of the many Islamic nations that eventually join the antichrist’s great caliphate will honor Allah as he does, and many will be ruled by his cronies.

‘Heavy fighting’ shakes Syrian capital

Gunfire and explosions rock Damascus neighbourhood, a day after a deadly car bomb killed three in city of Aleppo.

Heavy fighting has broken out between opposition fighters and forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad in a main district of the Syrian capital Damascus that is home to several security installations, witnesses said.

The sound of heavy machineguns and rocket-propelled grenades echoed throughout the night from the western neighbourhood of al-Mezzeh, one of the most heavily guarded areas of the capital, residents told the Reuters news agency by telephone on Monday.

There was no immediate word on casualties but residents said by telephone the fighting was intense. 

“There is fighting near Hamada supermarket and the sound of explosions there and elsewhere in the neighbourhood. Security police have blocked several side streets and the street lighting has been cut off,” a housewife who lives in the area said. 

Lena, a member of the Revolutionary Leadership Council in Damascus, an opposition activist network, told Al Jazeera “it all started around midnight. People here in Mezzeh started hearing gunfire”.

“Some people came to Mezzeh and they are trying to attack Mezzeh residents. They are calling them names and taking them out of their houses … people have left their homes. They are in the streets. The security forces are all around the place,” she said.

‘Terrorist’ attacks

The latest fighting came a day after a car bomb in Syria’s second biggest city of Aleppo killed at least three people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Residents told the UK-based rights group that they saw bodies in the streets after Sunday’s blast close to a state security office.

State news channel Syria TV said that Sunday’s “terrorist” explosion took place between two residential buildings in the al-Suleimaniya district, behind a post office.

 Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from neighbouring Lebanon, said it is not the first time Aleppo was hit during the now year-long uprising against Assad’s rule.

“We have seen an explosion in Aleppo just a few weeks ago. That explosion targeted the security headquarters.”

The opposition also reported heavy raids by security forces and fighting with rebels in northern and southern Syrian provinces and suburbs of Damascus.

In the capital, as crowds gathered for memorials to the 27 victims of Saturday’s car bombs, security forces broke up an opposition march of more than 200 people when protesters began shouting “the people want to topple the regime”.

Among those arrested and beaten was Mohammed Sayyed Rassas, a leader of the National Co-ordinating Body for Democratic Change (NCB), an opposition group which had visited China and Russia in attempt to promote dialogue between Assad and the opposition.

Most opposition groups have rejected the NCB over its insistence on non-violence and its stance against foreign intervention.

Security forces also arrested Farzand Omar, a doctor and politician from the party “Building the Syria State,” when he arrived at the Damascus airport from his hometown of Aleppo.

Civilian casualties

State television blamed “terrorists” for the Saturday morning explosions and reported that vehicles packed with explosives had been used.

The blasts targeted buildings belonging to a customs office and air force intelligence. Most of the casualties were civilians, state television said

The channel broadcast interviews with Syrians who blamed the attack on the United States and Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who they said had sent “terrorists”.

Bassma Kodmani, a Paris-based member of the opposition Syrian National Council, said she doubted the armed groups trying to bring Assad down by force have the capacity to carry out such attacks on security institutions in the capital.

“I don’t think any of the opposition forces or the Free Syrian Army has the capacity to do such an operation to target these buildings because they are fortresses,” she said.

“They are very well guarded. There is no way anyone can penetrate them without having strong support and complicity from inside the security apparatus.”

SANA said a third blast went off near a military bus at the Palestinian refugee camp Yarmouk in Damascus later in the day, killing the two suicide bombers.

Growing insurgency

Activists said the Sunday march in Damascus aimed to commemorate the peaceful roots of Syria’s uprising, which has been overshadowed by the growing armed insurgency against state security forces.

Heavy fighting also raged in the northwestern province of Deir Ezzor and military vehicles were torched, activists said.

Rebels also blew up a bridge in southern Deraa, birthplace of the uprising, the UK-based rights group said. The bridge had been used to transport supplies to security forces besieging the city.

The rights group said security forces raided the town of Artouz, a Damascus suburb, looking for wanted men. The Local Co-ordination Committee, another opposition group, said residents could hear heavy gunfire.

Technical experts from the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation are in Syria on a mission to assess the humanitarian impact of the bloodshed, a senior OIC official said on Sunday.

“The joint OIC-UN mission entered Syria on Friday to carry out an evaluation of humanitarian aid,” on a mission led by the Syrian government, its assistant secretary-general, Atta al-Mannan Bakhit, told the AFP news agency.

He said the mission, with three OIC experts in the team, would cover 15 cities, after which a report would be submitted to the Saudi-based Islamic grouping and the UN on the humanitarian needs of the Syrian population.

The United Nations estimates that more than 8,000 people have died so far in the violence following the revolt against four decades of rule by the Assad family.

Syrian authorities say they are fighting insurgents who have so far killed more than 2,000 members of the security forces.

While the world’s attention was fixed on the Russian-Georgian contest over two breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources reveal that Russia has massed a fleet of warships and marine forces opposite the Gerogia’s semi-autonomous Black Sea region of Ajaria.

 

Moscow is preparing to punish what it regards as Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili’s further provocations by occupying this coastal strip on Georgia’s southwestern border with Turkey.

 

The appearance of Ukraine’s president Viktor Yushchenko alongside Saakashvili, leaders of the pro-Western Orange and Rose Revolutions, at a huge national rally outside the Georgian parliament in Tbilisi Tuesday night, Aug. 12, may well be seen by the Kremlin as over the top. Half of Ajaria’s ethnically Georgian population professes Islam, in contrast to the country’s Christian majority. The other half is Russian.

 

Ajarian has come to mean a Georgian Muslim.

 

The Russian Black Sea buildup is deployed opposite the Ajurian capital of Batumi, an important port for the shipment of oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Its oil refinery handles Caspian oil from Azerbaijan.

 

When Saakashvili was elected president five years ago, the region’s leaders refused to recognize his authority and maintained close ties with Moscow up until May 2004 when, after Ajurians demonstrated against Tbilisi, he ordered them to obey the Georgian constitution and disarm.

 

Russia maintained a military base at Batumi which it agreed to close by November 2007.

They claim they burned Korans by mistake, but really those were “Satanic acts that will never be forgiven by apologies.”

The massacre of 16 Afghan children, women and men by an American soldier “was not the first incident, indeed it was the 100th, the 200th and 500th incident.”

Such harsh talk may sound as if it comes from the Taliban, but those are all remarks either made personally by the United States’ increasingly hostile ally here, President Hamid Karzai, or issued by his office in recent days and weeks.

The strongest such outburst came Friday. “Let’s pray for God to rescue us from these two demons,” Mr. Karzai said, apparently holding back tears at a meeting with relatives of the massacre victims, and clearly referring to the United States and the Taliban in the same breath. “There are two demons in our country now.”

Ever since the Koran-burning incident on Feb. 20 and its violent aftermath, the relationship between the two governments has lurched from one crisis to another. American officials have scrambled to run damage control, with President Obama calling Mr. Karzai twice in the past week and apologizing twice in the past month — once for the Koran burning and once for the massacre.

The White House went to lengths last week to depict Mr. Karzai’s call for Americans to hand over control a year earlier, by 2013, as no change in policy — only to have Mr. Karzai pointedly insist the next day that it was. The Americans fret that Mr. Karzai is making a difficult job almost impossible, with demands they often see as unreasonable; Mr. Karzai worries that the Americans seek to undermine him, and may yet abandon his country and him, once again, to their fate.

The Apocryphal “Book of Jubilees” is not inspired.  It disregards the inspired directions of the Old Testament.  This has caused confusion as to the computation of the correct modern years of Jubilee.

As explained by Richard Nickels in the Bible Study Excerpts, there are several reasons given for not being able to know when the exact year of the next 50^th Year Jubilee occurs.

It could be as early as 2016, or as late as 2028.   

I have been teaching since 2008 that the attack of Antichrist against Israel was likely to occur at some point between 2013 and 2015, and that some 3 and ½ years after the war began the Second Advent would occur at the Battle Armageddon.  This would put the 7^th Trumpet Rapture into a 2017 to 2019 guesstimate zone for the 50^th Jubilee Year.

The juxtaposition of events, calendars, and uninspired books, along with other evidences of human error, in my opinion, make it impossible to be certain when the next Jubilee Year or, for that matter, the year of Rapture or Second Advent, will actually occur,  But I an certain believers are not the children of darkness, and by study of the Word can know when they are approaching the beginning of the last war of the Gentile Age, during which the Rapture and Second Advent will occur,  We are now approaching the time of a Middle East War to ignite a war and, within 3 and ½ years after it begins, the Rapture and the Second Advent will occur.

The Fiftieth Year is the Jubilee Year

Leviticus 25 describes the fiftieth, or Jubilee, year.

“Jubilee” means “liberty.”

The Jubilee year is proclaimed with the sound of a trumpet on the Day of Atonement, so that all know the holy year has begun. God owns the land, and in the Jubilee, He wants the return of every man to his possession. Men, who have worked as a servant to pay off their debt, must be freed and allowed to return to their own land and to their families:

“And you shall count seven sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years;  and the time of the seven sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years.  Then you shall cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month;  on the Day of Atonement you shall make the trumpet to sound throughout all your land.  And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants.  It shall be a Jubilee for you;  and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family.  That fiftieth year shall be a Jubilee to you . . .  For it is the Jubilee; it shall be holy to you; you shall eat its produce from the field.

“In this Year of Jubilee, each of you shall return to his possession.  And if you sell anything to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor’s hand, you shall not oppress one another . . .

“If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.  Take no usury or interest from him;  but fear your God, that your brother may live with you.  You shall not lend him your money for usury, nor lend him your food at a profit.  I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.

“And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.  As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee.  And then he shall depart from you — he and his children with him — and shall return to his own family.  He shall return to the possession of his fathers.” (Leviticus 25:8-14, 35-41)

Leviticus 27:14-34 describes the redemption of gifts and tithes, which are calculated based on the number of years to Jubilee. Numbers 36:1-9 says that the purpose of Jubilee is to keep the inheritances separate, preventing dispossession.

Ezekiel 46:16-18 states that even the prince of Israel is not to dispossess people of their inheritance. Gifts from the prince shall revert back to the family of the prince at the year of liberty.

Why did Israel go into captivity?

Leviticus 26 tells us plainly that one of the main reasons Israel went into captivity was for not letting the land rest:

“And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me, then I also will walk contrary to you in fury;  and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

“I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you;  your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.  Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land;  then the land shall rest and enjoy its sabbaths.  As long as it lies desolate it shall rest — FOR THE TIME IT DID NOT REST ON YOUR SABBATHS WHEN YOU DWELT IN IT.

“The land also shall be left empty by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them;  they will accept their guilt, because they despised My judgments and because their soul abhorred My statutes.” (Leviticus 26:27-28, 33-35, 43)

Jeremiah 34:8-17 informs us that because Israel reneged and did not free their Hebrew servants, God would proclaim “liberty” unto these cruel taskmasters to the sword, pestilence, famine and captivity. 2Chronicles 36:14-21 describes how Judah mocked God’s prophets and so were carried away captive to Babylon, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths. Israel rested seventy years before the Jews returned from captivity.

How does the ministry of Jesus relate to the Jubilee Year?

Isaiah 61:1-11 compares the Millennium with the Sabbatical or Jubilee years. In Luke 4 the Savior began His ministry by preaching a “Jubilee” message:

“So He (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up.  And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.  And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.  And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

“’The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.  He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.  TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.’

“Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down.  And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.  And He began to say to them, ‘Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’ ” (Luke 4:16-21)

Since the Jubilee year began on the Day of Atonement, it is most likely the Sabbath on which this message was given. True liberty can only be had by accepting our Savior as Master and Lord.

History of the Jews in relation to the Sabbatical and Jubilee Years

In Josephus’ book Antiquities (History) of the Jews he describes historical events, in relation to the Sabbatical year and Jubilee, that involved or impacted the Jews . Antiochus besieged Judas Maccabeus and Jerusalem’s Temple during a Sabbatical year. The war between Ptolemy and Hyrcanus happened in a Sabbatical year. Taxes were not paid to Caesar during the seventh year. Josephus also states that Herod the Great’s plundering of the wealthy and the dead for silver and gold to give to Anthony occurred in a Sabbatical year. In the thirteenth year of Herod the Great there was a great famine and pestilence. In Whiston’s footnotes to Josephus, he says this famine was worse than the famine of the days of Ahab, and even worse than the days of Jacob, and that this was a Sabbatical or Jubilee year.

What is the meaning of the Sabbatical and Jubilee Years?

The significance of the Sabbatical and Jubilee year is not limited to the rest of the land and rejuvenation of the soil. It is to remind us, as does the weekly Sabbath, that the Eternal is the Creator. Just as it took faith for Israelites not to farm on the Sabbatical and Jubilee years, so today it takes faith to trust Him for sustenance. Man is not the sole owner of the soil, and he does not hold property in perpetuity but only under the Almighty’s trust (Leviticus 25:23). We own nothing by inherent right, for like the children of Israel, we were slaves in spiritual “Egypt” (Deuteronomy 15:15). Out of gratitude to the Eternal for our liberation, we must extend liberty to our debtors and servants.

The word translated “release” in Deuteronomy 15:1 can also mean “dropping.” The seventh year is a year of dropping, or cancellation, of debts. What better time than the seventh year to settle debts with people and to move on. We were on spiritual death row, waiting for execution in the lake of fire. Then, the Almighty in His great mercy, called us and forgave us. Through His Son the Messiah, all charges were dropped against us. This should be a cause for rejoicing.

If a nation observed the Sabbatical and Jubilee years it would be tremendously blessed instead of cursed. There would be no crushing debt nor an imbalance of the very rich and the very poor. Land values would be relatively stable, and inflation and depressions would not occur. The Law of God would be taught in detail every seventh year, which would result in good government and prosperity. But we will have to wait for the millennium for the good results of national obedience to the Almighty’s laws.

When will the next Jubilee Year occur?

According to William Whiston’s footnotes to Josephus, 24 B.C. was a Sabbatical year and 23 B.C. was a Jubilee year. This would mean that A.D. 27 was a Sabbatical year and A.D. 28 was a Jubilee year. If this is true, then Sabbatical years would occur in 2013, 2020 and 2027 A.D., with the next Jubilee year occurring in 2028 A.D.

The Jews today are in confusion as to Sabbatical and Jubilee years. True fifty-year Jubilee years were only counted during Temple times. Some Jews believe that every 15th and 65th years of the world era are Jubilee years. Thus, 1955 and 2005 A.D. would have been Jubilee years. And 1976 and 1983 A.D. would have been Sabbatical years.

Why are the Jews confused? Because THEY DID NOT OBEY GOD. They admit that when the First Temple stood a full fifty-year cycle was used. The next year after the Jubilee was the first year of the next fifty-year cycle of seven seven-year cycles. Because the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh were exiled, tradition says, the Jubilee was no longer in effect, because it was for ” . . . all the inhabitants thereof,” (Leviticus 25:10). The Jubilees were not properly calculated, and a 49-year cycle was instituted where the “Jubilee” year was also the beginning year of the next seven year cycle. Jubilee is counted by the Jews exactly as they erroneously count when to keep the day of Pentecost each year.

Around 153-105 B.C. an apocryphal book called the Book of Jubilees was written. It divides the history of the world into “Jubilees” of 49-year periods (seven weeks of years). The biblical idea of the Jubilee year, the 50th year following the seven weeks of years (Leviticus 25:8-12) is ignored. Thus, the Jews accepted this erroneous idea and are confused as to the true Jubilee. As the New Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible (Abingdon Press, Nashville, 1962), article “Jubilee, Year of,” admits, the so-called Book of Jubilees completely disregards the original and true Jubilee Year:

“. . . in the official count of Sabbatical Years in the Maccabean and post-Maccabean periods the Jubilee Year was omitted entirely and the Sabbatical Years followed each other in uninterrupted succession every seven years. Moreover, certain later, rabbinic authorities likewise reckoned a Jubilee period as of only forty-nine years, although a majority adhered, quite naturally, to the biblical reckoning of the period as of fifty years.”

Jews began to believe that the Law of Jubilee did not apply to them because the land of Israel was not fully occupied by them. Today, Rabbis have relaxed the Sabbatical year because of “economic hardship.” Land is “sold” to Moslems and leased back. It is observed only ceremonially, not in reality, in order to perpetuate the memory of the Sabbatical year.

Jews, however, still believe the Son of David will come on the last Jubilee:

“The precept of the Jubilee is often regarded as one of the basic precepts of the Torah! There are seven basic precepts: offerings, tithes, shemittot, Jubilees, circumcision, honor of father and mother, and study of the Torah.” (Judaica, page 582)

When is the Jubilee year? When is the Sabbatical year? The issue is of major importance. Israel went into captivity for not obeying this law. If God will send modern Israel into captivity for the same reason as ancient Israel, knowledge must be increased, and the modern-day children of Israel must be warned (Amos 3:7, Daniel 12:4, John 7:17). We look forward to the time when we will understand, and witness, the fulfillment of the Land Sabbath and Jubilee year.
