How can this be? One prophet says you will not he able to see the sun, moon, and stars about one-third of the time, but anoth­er says you won’t be able to see them at all. These prophecies are fulfilled gradually over the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period, and the prophets have been given visions of the effects on the view of the heavenly bodies from earth at different times in this period. Let us assume that the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period have begun and a person is standing at point “X” on figure 12.

A per­son could look up and see the sun, moon or stars from this van­tage point on the earth’s surface without obstruction. Now, let us allow figure 12 to become alive, with the winds of the stratos­phere moving the volcanic smoke clouds around the earth in patches.

Within a few hours after you had made your unob­structed observation of the sun, moon or stars, the thin leading edge of the volcanic cloud would begin to move between you and the heavenly bodies. If it were night, the moon would turn blood red. If it were day, the sun would be darkened. All of this is exactly what the Old and New Testament prophets observed in their visions.

These things are the “signs in the sun, and in the noon, and in the stars prophesied in Luke 21:25, 26:

At this point it may seem that I have been sidetracked from explaining “and the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together,” but everything to this point draws together toward a final conclusion. In Revelation 6:14, the word used for heaven is ouranos, and there are three of them: (1) the Heaven where God dwells, (2) the heaven where the birds fly (atmosphere), and (3) the heaven where the sun, moon, and stars abide. It is the latter to which John refers.

The word used for departed is apechoris­the, which literally means, in this case, “was removed from view.” John is saying he saw what the Hebrews considered heaven (sun, moon, and stars) removed from his view. When something or someone departs, or is removed, it is no longer visible to the one from which it departed.

John says that the heaven disap­peared from his view and then tells us the manner in which it disappeared: as a scroll when it is rolled together”

In figure 13 you can see the likeness of a Hebrew scroll. If while you were reading the scroll it were slowly roiled together, then it could he truly stated that the writing departed from your view “as a scroll when it is rolled together.” In his vision John looked up into what the Hebrews considered one of the heavens and, as he watched, the heavenly bodies slowly disap­ peared over a period of time.

VIENNA (Reuters) – Iran agreed to answer remaining questions about past, secret nuclear work within a month at talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency chief, the U.N. watchdog said on Sunday.

In a statement issued after IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei’s return, the U.N. watchdog said Tehran gave him information about work to develop an advanced centrifuge able to enrich uranium much faster than the antiquated model it uses now.

ElBaradei met top Iranian leaders over two days last week to push for swifter cooperation to wrap up a longrunning IAEA inquiry into its nuclear history and shed light on its current programme, which the West suspects will yield atom bombs.

Iran denies the accusation.

ElBaradei is anxious to see a standoff between Iran and Western powers over its disputed nuclear ambitions settled peacefully, a concern underscored by a U.S.-Iranian naval incident in the Gulf a week ago which has fanned tensions.

Iran, after years of stonewalling that helped lead to U.N. sanctions, agreed in August to clarify questions about its nuclear past, a process called the “work plan”. But an end of year target set by ElBaradei passed with issues still open.

“Agreement was reached on the timeline for implementation of all the remaining verification issues specified in the work plan. According to the agreed schedule implementation … should be completed in the next four weeks,” the IAEA said.

A diplomat close to the IAEA said ahead of ElBaradei’s rare visit that the agency inquiry had entered a final phase with Iran addressing U.S. intelligence given to U.N. inspectors about past attempts to “weaponise” atomic material.

“Iran is prepared to remove all outstanding ambiguities by March,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini told a news conference in Tehran on Sunday.

That would be in time for ElBaradei’s next Iran report to the IAEA’s 35-nation board of governors, which meets on March 3-7.

Western diplomats had expressed concern that Iran would lose motivation to carry out the “work plan” after a U.S. intelligence report last month said Tehran had stopped an active nuclear weapons programme in 2003.

In Revelation 8:7-9, John has viewed the land and sea events described previously in Chapters 2, 4, 5, and 6.  Now his view is shifted upward where he observes a great star falling from heaven.  The word used for star is “aster.”  It can mean any one of three different things.  It can be a navigational star in the heavens such as Polaris, the North Star – or a “shooting” star, better known as a meteor – or a comet.  Sometimes meteors and comets are lumped together as “asteroids” by various types of commentators, but there is a considerable difference between a meteor and a comet.   Since all the fixed stars in our universe (except for the sun) are millions to billions of light years from our planet and, as such, eliminate themselves from consideration as candidates for John’s Wormwood, this leaves us with only two candidates – a meteor or a comet.  In order to select between these two it is necessary to carefully examine John’s description of the characteristics of Wormwood.

Using John’s description, the following statements concerning Wormwood cannot be easily refuted:  (1) It burned like a lamp, and the Hebrew lamp had a fuel supply

that kept it burning.  (2) It fell upon the third part of the earth’s water surface, and yet John did not so much as mention a quiver in the earth’s crust as it struck.  He mentions earthquakes time after time throughout the Book of Revelation, but does not mention one occurring as Wormwood strikes the earth.  (3) Whatever Wormwood is, it dissolves in water, because the water becomes Wormwood.  (4) When it dissolves in man’s water supply it gives the water a bitter taste, and it causes many who drink the water to die.

When a “shooting star” is outside the earth’s atmosphere it is called a meteoroid.  When it enters the earth’s atmosphere it is called a meteor.  And, if it is large enough to eventually strike the earth’s surface, before burning into ashes, the solid portion that remains is identified as a meteorite.  For simplicity I will refer to all three phases as “shooting stars” to avoid confusion. 

Shooting stars are made of nickel, iron, and/or stone.  Now, let us reason together as to why Wormwood cannot be a shooting star by comparing it with John’s Revelation description. 

*A shooting star does not burn like a Hebrew lamp.  It does not have a continuous fuel supply.  Being a solid it burns out very quickly in a matter of seconds to minutes.

*A comet has a continuous fuel supply.  As it approaches the sun its fuel supply begins to be released by sublimation, and it then moves through the heavens like a great, ever burning lamp.

Figure 18 illustrates how the comet’s tail always points away from the sun because of the sun’s solar winds.

I do not know which of the trillions of comets God will select to be Wormwood, but I am certain that Wormwood is a comet.  When Wormwood enters the earth’s atmosphere it will not burn, it will melt.  And, as it goes directly from a solid to a gas, it will release into the earth’s atmospheric the aforementioned deadly gases of figure 19.  Figure 20 pictures another creation of God described in Ecclesiastes 1:7 – “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.”

Figure 3 shows the world’s tectonic plates. 

Figures 4 to 8 also apply to what follows:

Revelation 8:7 – The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

Revelation 8:7 does not mix frozen hailstones with fire.  It mixes large volcanic bombs (hail) and fiery blood-red lava.  I believe what John witnessed was a worldwide pattern of volcanic eruptions around the edges of the tectonic plates.  This verse is a perfect description of a chain of volcanic eruptions.  As the volcanic bombs (hail) are thrown great distances from the caldera vents, fires are started, and as the fiery lava moves across the surface of the earth it burns up everything in its path.  I challenge you to view films of an actual eruption and then not believe this is what John saw in his vision from God.  (See Archives – Birth Pang 3)

Revelation 8:8,9 – And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; [9] And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

A fuller, more descriptive, rendering of part of this verse from “The Bible in Basic English,” Dutton, 1950, Cambridge Press, is as follows:  “It was as if a great mountain burning with fire had been cast into the sea.”  Again, I believe the great fiery mountain that suddenly appeared in the sea would naturally have been assumed to come from above to the one abruptly seeing it there (See Archives – Birth Pang 4).  This was the first of thousands that will be rapidly appearing along the plate borders of the tectonic plates, building up from the ocean sea floors to break the sea surface.  The resultant action of rapid heating of the ocean above these volcanic vents will discolor one-third of the sea water into a murky rusty-red maze of aquatic death by the smothering effect of the basaltic hematite oxidation, and generate an ocean wide population explosion of dinoflagellate, which will produce the deadly red tide.  (See Archives – Birth Pang 4)
