If I had not spent a lot of time in North Africa and the Middle East, and come to understand the rampant anti-Semitism that

has been carried over from centuries of blaming the Jews for delivering Jesus Christ to be crucified by the Romans, I would have had difficulty in interpreting these Scriptures. It is rare to find ancient church clans and groups in the Old World that are not very anti-Semitism.

Middle Eastern Christians and anti-Semitism

Statements by Arab clerics reveal that blood libels are still very much alive.

I was recently told by my aunt in Baghdad that there was a widespread belief among Iraqis that some external force was behind the protests and uprisings across the Middle East. What outside conspiracy, I wondered, could be responsible for the Arab Spring? Not to worry, however; George Saliba – the Syriac Orthodox Church’s bishop in Lebanon – offers us a simple answer. In an interview with Al-Dunya TV on July 24, Saliba declared that “the source… behind all these movements, all these civil wars, and all these evils” in the Arab world is nothing other than Zionism, “deeply rooted in Judaism.” The Jews, he says, are responsible for financing and inciting the turmoil in accordance with The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

These remarks are not an isolated case among Middle Eastern Christians. The anti-Semitic trend has become especially apparent in the aftermath of Iraq’s assault last October on the Syriac Catholic Our Lady of Salvation Church in Baghdad, leaving 58 dead and 67 wounded in the worst attack on the Iraqi Christian community since 2003.

Two months after the atrocity, for example, the Melkite Greek Patriarch Gregory III Laham characterized the terrorist attacks on Iraq’s Christians as part of “a Zionist conspiracy against Islam.”

He further affirmed, “All this behavior has nothing to do with Islam… but it is actually a conspiracy planned by Zionism…

and it aims at undermining and giving a bad image of Islam.”

He then said the massacre “is also a conspiracy against Arabs and the predominantly Muslim Arab world that aims at depicting Arabs and Muslims in Arab countries as terrorist and fundamentalist murderers in order to deny them their rights, and especially those of the Palestinians.”

While the patriarch has warned of the dangers of Christian emigration and the formation of a “society uniquely Muslim,” he attributed the risk of “demographic extinction” solely to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Similarly, in an interview with NBN TV on November 9, 2010, Iraqi priest Father Suheil Qasha claimed that the Jews consider all gentiles to be beasts, and asserted that the “real danger” to Middle Eastern Christians came from Zionism. He went on to state that those who perpetrated the attack on the church in Baghdad were certainly not Muslims, but probably those trained and supervised “by global Zionism.”

Anti-Semitism extends to the Coptic Orthodox Church, which, serving around 10 percent of Egypt’s population, is the largest single church in the Middle East and North Africa. As liberal Egyptian blogger Samuel Tadros points out, a certain Father Marcos Aziz Khalil wrote in the newspaper Nahdet Masr: “The Jews saw that the Church is their No. 1 enemy, and that without [the] priesthood the Church loses its most important component . Thus the Masonic movement was the secret Zionist hand to create revolution against the clergy.”

AT THIS point, many would no doubt be inclined to explain away this anti-Semitism by pointing to the anti- Jewish sentiments that are mainstream among the Muslim populations of the region. Living in such an environment – the reasoning goes – Christians would naturally be careful not to denounce deeply held convictions among their Muslim neighbors for fear of provoking persecution.

However, the cancer of hostility toward Jews among Middle Eastern Christians goes much deeper than that.

Indeed, it is telling that other non-Muslim minorities that have suffered discrimination and violence at the hands of Islamists – including the Yezidis, Mandeans and Bahá’íshave never blamed Jews or Zionism for their persecution; their religions have not featured anti-Semitic doctrines.

The case of the Bahá’í community is especially important because, with the religion’s global center located in Haifa, charges of collaboration with Israel can easily be leveled against Bahá’ís. Yet the Universal House of Justice has never complained of a Jewish/Zionist conspiracy against the Bahá’í communities in Iran and the wider region. Rather, it has always rightly identified the problem as enforcement of traditional Islamic law on the treatment of non-Muslims and apostasy, along with the supremacist attitudes fostered by the promotion of Shari’a.

Ultimately the malaise of anti-Semitism among Middle Eastern Christians is entrenched in charges of deicide (i.e., of killing Jesus) against the Jewish people as a whole.

As Saliba put it, Jewish conspiracies are “only natural” because the Jews repaid Christ for his miracles by crucifying him.

In particular, Pope Shenouda III of the Coptic Orthodox Church lambasted the Western churches for exonerating Jews for Christ’s death, in a televised interview on April 8, 2007. He argued that Jews were “Christ-killers” because “the New Testament says they are.”

It is clear that in general, the Eastern churches have yet to move beyond the noxious anti-Semitic motifs repudiated by the Vatican in its Nostra Aetate declaration issued in 1965, after the Second Vatican Council.

If anti-Semitism in the Middle East and North Africa is to be eradicated, the burden of theological reform will evidently not be a task for Muslims alone.

Russia: NATO close to military steps in Syria for beachhead to attack Iran

Twelve hours after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned Assad he faced a “sad fate” if he failed to introduce reforms, Moscow’s envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin accused the Western alliance of planning a military campaign against Syria to help overthrow the Assad regime “with the long-reaching goal of preparing a beachhead for an attack on Iran.”

In an interview published by Izvestia Friday, Aug. 5, the knowledgeable and high-placed Rogozin added: “This statement means that the planning [of the military campaign] is well underway. It could be a logical conclusion of those military and propaganda operations, which have been carried out by certain Western countries against North Africa.”

Thursday, as the Syrian military crackdown in Hama reached a new level of ferocity with public executions in the town square, the Russian president warned Assad: “We are watching how the situation is developing.

It’s changing and our approach is changing as well.”

on NATO: He said he agreed with the opinion that Syria and later Yemen could be NATO’s last steps on the way to launching an attack on Iran.

“The noose around Iran is tightening,” he said. “Military planning against Iran is underway.

And we are certainly concerned about an escalation of a large-scale war in this huge region.”

The Russian envoy made a point of citing NATO – never once mentioning the United States in his remarks.

However, they were definitely meant to clarify to Washington that Moscow is fully updated on the next American military steps in the Middle East and Persian Gulf.

After returning from Babylon captivity, where they were sent for failure to worship God according to his word, it had resulted in Solomon’s Temple being destroyed and the Spirit of God departing from it.

And his Spirit never again dwelt in the two temples built after they returned.

II Chronicles 7:1-3 – Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of

the Lord filled the house. [2] And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. The Holy Spirit of God, that descended on the assembled Church Jesus built during his earthly ministry, has left many local churches which stopped worshipping him in Spirit and in truth down through the ages. Believers have a personal responsibility to determine which churches are still teaching God’s truth by studying the Word for themselves to make the determination.

The Israeli worshippers of God put their own mammon creature comforts ahead of working on and completing a temple to assemble and worship God. They had worked on, and put ceilings on their houses, but now they wanted a break, and lost interest in working for God. That is America’s problem today. They have put the god of Mammon before service in the house of the living God, which is the pillar and ground of the truth.

I Timothy 3:14,15 –These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: [15] But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

The first love of every member in a local Church should be worshiping God in the Spirit and truth the Head and Foundation of the Church, Jesus Christ, left us in his Word.

John 6:62,63 – What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? [63] It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Ephesians 2:22 – In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

If a Church stops teaching and practicing the words of truth Christ delivered, his Spirit will no longer accept it as one of his local churches.

Revelation 2:4,5 – Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. [5] Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

The Reason our recession pockets have holes through which our mammon passes at high speed is because we have stopped assembling to worship God in Spirit and in truth. We have the same problem as the Israelites of Haggai’s day. We don’t put our money in bags today, but our money slides through our pockets as if there where huge holes in the bottoms.

Our Government accelerates printing money the holes in our pockets just keep getting larger.

We carry a wheelbarrow of money to the grocery store to buy a measure of wheat.

A penny when Revelation was written represented one day’s labor for common labor.

Our government balances are becoming more and more unbalanced. It takes the weight of a wheelbarrow of cash on one side to balance the weight of a big handful of wheat to make bread. Famine is growing in underdeveloped countries of the old world. Antichrist will use famine to bond the old world Islamic clay and iron toes of Daniel 2 together for war, and then to establish his old world caliphate by mark of the beast food rationing.

The Alawite State, also known in French as Alaouites, after the locally dominant Alawite sect of Shi’a, was a French mandate territory in the coastal area of present-day Syria after World War I.

History

The collapse of the Ottoman Empire at the end of World War I brought on a scramble to take control of various provinces of the disintegrating empire.

France occupied Syria in 1918, and received the Alawite Territory as a mandate from

the League of Nations on September 2, 1920.

Initially it was an autonomous territory under French rule, but on 1 July 1922 was incorporated into French Syria.

On September 29, 1923, it was declared a state with the port city of Latakia as its capital, and on 1 January 1925 was formally renamed

the Alawite State.

On September 22, 1930, it was renamed the Sanjak of Latakia.

The population at this time was 278,000.

On 5 December 1936 (effective in 1937) it was fully incorporated into Syria.

Alawis are self-described Shi’i Muslims, and have been called Shia by other sources including the highly influential Lebanese Shia cleric Musa al-Sadr of Lebanon.[37] On the other hand, conservative Sunnis do not always recognize Alawi as Muslims. At least one source has compared them to Baha’is, Babis, Bektashis, Ahmadis, and “similar groups that have arisen within the Muslim community”, and declared that “it has always been the consensus of the Muslim Ulama, both Sunni and Shi’i, that the Nusayri Alawi are kuffar unbelievers and mushrikun polytheists.” On the other hand, the prominent Sunni Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammad Amin al-Husayni, issued a fatwah recognizing them as part of the Muslim community

The Alawite sect initially resisted encouragement to be categorized as Shi’ite Muslims. Alawites have had a mixed view of themselves propagated. Ali Sulayman al-Ahmad, chief judge of the Alawite state, replied “We are Alawi Muslims. Our book is the Quran.

Our prophet is Muhammad. The Ka`ba is our qibla, and our religion is Islam.”

Heterodox

Many of the tenets of the faith are secret and known only to a select few Alawi. In the 19th century, however, an Alawite named Sulaiman al-Adni converted to Christianity and in 1863, compiled a book called Al-Bakurah as-Suliamaniya fi Kashf Asrar ad-Diyanah an-Nusairiyah (The First Fruits of Sulaiman in Revealing the Secrets of the Nusairi Religion). Orientalists like Louis Massignon gained access to a number of Nusairi manuscripts.

According to some sources, Alawis have integrated doctrines from other religions (Syncretism), in particular from Ismaili Islam and Christianity.[8][11][38] According to scholar Cyril Glasse, it is thought that “as a small, historically beleaguered ethnic group”, the Alawi “absorbed elements” from the different religions that influenced their area from Hellenistic times onward, while maintaining their own beliefs, and “pretended to adhere to the dominant religion of the age.” Alawites are reported to celebrate certain Christian festivals, “in their own way”, including Christmas, Easter, and Palm Sunday, and their religious ceremonies make use of bread and wine According to Matti Moosa, a “leading scholar of the Nusayris”,

The Christian elements in the Nusayri religion are unmistakable. They include the concept of trinity; the celebration of Christmas, the consecration of the Qurban, that is, the sacrament of the flesh and blood which Christ offered to his disciples, and, most important, the celebration of the Quddas (a lengthy prayer proclaiming the divine attributes of Ali and the personification of all the biblical patriarchs from Adam to Simon Peter, founder of the Church, who is seen, paradoxically, as the embodiment of true Islam).

Alawis have much in common with the Ismailis in terms of overall beliefs, and they are sometimes regarded as “an offshoot of this group.”] According to scholar Umar F. Abd-Allah, who uses Sulaiman al-Adni’s book along with other sources, the Alawis, like the Ismailis and related groups, believe that the Shariah has both an esoteric, allegorical (Batini) meaning and an exoteric, literal (zahiri) meaning and that only the hidden meaning is intended. Alawis believe the esoteric meaning is known only to the Imams and later to the Bab and was hidden even to the Islamic prophet Muhammad himself. Only the Bab has access to this esoteric meaning in

the absence of the Imam.

Alawis believe in a “trinity”or “schema”] of `Ain-Mim-Sin, which stands for `Ali, Muhammad, and Salman al-Farsi, the Persian Companion of Muhammad. Muhammad is known as ism, or “name”, Ali as bab, or “door”, and Salman al-Farsi as ma’na, or “meaning”, with both Muhammad and Ali considered to be emanations of Salman al-Farsi. According to Abd-Allah, each of these three is said to have been an incarnation of God. Ali, however, constitutes the most important part of this trinity. The Alawi testimony of faith is: `I have borne witness that there is no God but He, the most High, the object of worship and that there is no concealing veil (hijab) except the lord Muhammad, the object of praise, (as-Sayyid Muhmmad al-Mahmud), and there is not Bab except the lord Salman al-Farisi` The Nusairis believe in the subsequent incarnation of God in other persons after the passing of `Ali, Muhammad, and Salman al-Farisi…

Some sources have suggested that the non-Muslim nature of many of the historical Alawi beliefs notwithstanding, Alawi beliefs may have changed in recent decades. In the early 1970s a booklet entitled al-`Alawiyyun Shi’atu Ahl al-Bait (The Alawis are Followers of the Household of the Prophet), was issued in which doctrines of the Imami Shi’ah were described as ‘Alawi, and which was “signed by of numerous `Alawi` men of religion”. This book and Musa Sadr’s proclamation have led one scholar to wonder whether “a mass conversion from Nusairism to Shi’ah Islam” has taken place Another scholar suggests that factors such as the high profile of Alawi in Syria, the strong aversion of the Muslim majority to apostasy, and the relative lack of importance of religious doctrine to Alawi identity may have induced Syrian leader Hafez al-Assad and his successor son to press their fellow Alawi “to behave like ‘regular Muslims’, shedding or at least concealing their distinctive aspects.”[43]

Alawis have their own scholars, referred to as shaikhs, although more recently there has been a movement to bring Alawism and the other branches of Twelver Islam together through educational exchange programs in Syria and Qumm. Distinct Alawi beliefs include the belief that prayers are not necessary, they don’t fast, nor perform pilgrimage, nor have specific places of worship.

Horrifying images of bodies and limbs floating in the Orontes River in Hama were aired by Syrian state television early Thursday, Aug.

Contrary to official claims that they belonged to Syrian soldiers torn to pieces by protesters, DEBKAfile reports they are the victims of Syrian tank fire and ZU-23 automatic anti-aircraft artillery trained on residential buildings and streets in the last 48 hours as the dead pile up in the streets.

Citizens cowering in their homes are throwing the dead out of windows and off roofs into the river.

They are reliving the terrors of the massacre President Bashar Assad’s father inflicted on this city of half-a-million in 1982 which left 30,000 dead.

Our sources report that the Syrian ruler decided to take advantage of three events for unleashing an all-out assault against rebellious Hama:

1. World attention was riveted on the deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s trial which opened in Cairo Wednesday. As Mubarak was stunningly wheeled into the courtroom on a stretcher and deposited in an iron cage, Syrian tanks thundered into central Hama, indiscriminately shelling buildings and torching

them. Their anti-aircraft guns mowed down the rebels who were firing anti-tank weapons from roadblocks.

Buildings suspected of housing snipers at windows or on rooftops were flattened.

Casualty figures cannot be confirmed because the Syrian authorities have cut off all the city’s ground and cell telephone and Internet links. Electrical current and water are also switched off. The dead are believed to be in the hundreds and ris

ing all the time because the thousands of injured cannot be reached for medical care.

The satellite phones in the hands of some of the dissident leaders provide the only source of information on the situation in the embattled city.

2. The crisis between the Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and the army after the entire top command resigned in a body, which Assad expected would preoccupy all the decision-making levels in Ankara to the exclusion of Syria.

He counted on no one in authority venturing to order the Turkish units poised on

the Syrian border for weeks to cross into northern Syria and establish a buffer zone there to ease the siege on Hama and other towns.

3. The UN Security Council convening Wednesday night routinely condemned the killing of civilians in Syria and human rights abuses but stopped at approving sanctions or any concrete penalties for the delinquent Assad regime.

Although US UN representative Susan Rice called the statement “an important and strong step,” Bashar Assad was not impressed and the Syrian army’s onslaught on Hama kept going through the night.

Assad was further encouraged by an event in the US Congress.

After the Senate Tuesday, Aug. 3 approved the bill raising the national debt ceiling, the lawmakers were scheduled to turn to the crisis in Syria. However, US Ambassador Robert Ford, on hand to brief the senators, saw them hurrying to leave Capitol Hill. Only one senator remained for the briefing.

The Syrian ruler has therefore concluded he can safely ignore international opinion.

In the face of US and Western indifference, he can continue to mercilessly slaughter his people without fear of the sort of intervention they undertook in Libya or UN sanctions.

America’s majority has spoken, and knowing that God is involved in the destinies of nations and kings, I accept it, but I can never accept some of the ungodly things being performed in America, nor America’s drive to remove God from their society.

America’s politicians and courts have done everything possible to bring down any public figure representing God that might be on any type of state or government property, to promote same sex marriages, and to ignore any form of immoral acts contrary to God’s will, such as the murder of children in the womb.

Now America has voted in its wishes.

It now has a king and a congress that will surely accelerate this lust for ungodly practices.

At one time Christians chose to be a silent majority in this country. Now we are a vocal minority, and with the leaders majority America has chosen to put over the vocal minority, eventually we won’t be allowed to be vocal any more congressional dictate under our new king and a fairness doctrine decided by the unfairness majority.

So be it. It won’t stop it, only cause it to come in sooner. From now on I plan to pastor, do the work of an evangelist, put out blogs on end time events, let America go down a long road to destruction, and wait for my King to come and sit on the Holy Hill of Zion to replace all the kings of this world.
