PSALM 2:1-3 – Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing

? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

Since I have already exposited on verses 1 and 2 in Number 1, I will only address my exposition to verse 3, which refers to the planned actions of the kings of the earth.

“Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”

The usage of the specific Hebrew words “bands” and “cords” may be found in the following Scriptures:

Psalm 73:1-12 – Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

[2] But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. [3] For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. [4] For there are no BANDS in their death: but their strength is firm. [5] They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. [6] Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. [7] Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. [8] They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. [9] They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. [10] Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. [11] And they say, How doth God know

? and is there knowledge in the most High

? [12] Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

The psalmist complained that the ungodly with their ill gotten wealth used its power

to never have any BANDS of control around them during their lifetime by those in authority. And even when they died believing there was no God, it appeared there were no bands on them after death.

Psalm 129:4 –The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the CORDS of the wicked.

The Lord cannot be bound by the CORDS of the wicked, and any attempts to do so on their part will see the Lord cut them asunder.

The historical kings of the earth, by and large, from the great King Nimrod of the Book of Genesis, to our King Obama, have resented being bound by the restraint of the God of the Word in governing the nations. Many historical kings have desired to have totalitarian power, and it is the desire of most of today’s kings of the earth.

Daniel 2:20-22 – Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: [21] And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: [22] He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

Constitutions, which are CORDS AND BANDS on leaders of nations, are limitations of their power, and many Central and South American rulers try during their stay in office to: “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” The same was, and is, also true across the “the Old World” of Bible times. Most kings have always resented limitations placed on them by the Old Testament Law of Moses, upon which most of the European and American derived Parliamentary laws were originally formulated. President Obama, attempts to “work around,” parts of the Constitution, and wants to reinterpret those that limit his kingly power. The kings of the earth of this generation are trying to reinterpret moral cords and bands imposed on their subjects by the laws of God that made their way into constitutions and their amendments.

These moral cords and bands imposed on their subjects that worked their way into the constitutions and amendments of man, were placed there because without them, transgressions would rise as mankind’s carnality increased.

Galatians 3:19 – Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Mankind carnality has erupted in riots across Europe since the Islamic hoards came rapidly into Europe after the colonial empires began to move out of Africa and the Middle East. Many “crazyies,” of ethnic and cultist-like groups and cults, are now actively exposing the prophesied characteristics of

the last days perilous times.

The carnality of mankind has spiked in these last days of the Gentile Age as Paul predicted in his second Epistle to Timothy.

II Timothy 3:1-4 – This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

God’s severe judgment has followed spikes in man’s carnality from Noah to Lot. It will also follow this generation’s spike in carnality.

Luke 17:26-32 – And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. [27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. [28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; [29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. [30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. [31] In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. [32] Remember Lot’s wife.

Revelation 22:12 – And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

PSALM 2:1-3 – Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, [3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

Since I have already exposited on verses 1 and 2 in Part 1, I will only include three sections of Scripture I did not use in Part I, which refer to “his anointed” in verse 2.

Psalm 45:6,7 – Thy THRONE, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. [7] Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath ANOINTED thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Revelation 3:19-22 – As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. [20] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. [21] To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my THRONE, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his THRONE. [22] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

PSALM 2:3 – Let us break THEIR bands asunder, and cast away THEIR cords from us.

There is only one God, who has fulfilled three offices in his dealings with man as (1) The Holy Father, (2) The Holy Son, and (3) The Holy Spirit.

John 1:1-3 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

God made the first Garden of Eden man in the image of the man Christ Jesus, who God knew he would one day take on himself as the body of the second Adam. The first Adam was made a living sinless soul who later sinned, but the last Adam was made a Quickening God-man, who never sinned in body, soul, or flesh.

Genesis 1:26 – And God said, Let US make man in our image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

I Corithians 15:45 – And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

John 10:18 – No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

John 11:25,26,35 – Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this

PSALM 2:3 – Let us break their BANDS asunder, and cast away their CORDS from us.

Kings and rulers want to break the bands of love God has on his children and the control he has over his own creation. They want to cast away the cords that bind our sacrifices that now hold our sacrifices we offer to the stone which the builders rejected.

Hosea 11:1-4 – When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. [2] As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

[3] I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them. [4] I DREW THEM WITH CORDS OF A MAN, WITH BANDS OF LOVE: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.

I Peter 2:4,5 – To whom coming, as unto a living STONE, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, [5] Ye also, as lively STONES, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, TO OFFER UP SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Psalm 118:22-29 – The STONE which the builders refused is become the HEAD STONE of the corner.

[23] This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. [24] This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. [25] Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. [26] Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.

[27] God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with CORDS, even unto the horns of the altar. [28] Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. [29] O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

1 Peter 2:6-10 – Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner STONE, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. [7] Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, [8] And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

[9] But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: [10] Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

And in the days of the 10 kings representing the 10 toes that are nations who follow the Antichrist, the STONE that falls on the toes of the great statue of Daniel will crush the feet of clay and iron, such that the statue will fall, and the Kingdom of God will replace all world kingdoms, past, present, and future.

Daniel 2:44-45 – And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

[45] Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

Revelation 11:15,18 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. [18] And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

A DIAGRAM OF THE LAST 1335 DAYS OF THE AGE OF THE GENTILES

FOR COMPARISON WITH WHAT FOLLOWS IN BLOG 7A

EVENT 2 – Thirty days after Israel (King of the South) pushes into Lebanon, the 144,000 sealed Jews of Revelation 7:4, led by the two witnesses, will begin to testify in Jerusalem, and will continue for 1260 days until Revelation 11:12-15 is fulfilled. The message will be like John the Baptist and Christ’s message, in that it will be one of repentance, associated w

ith sackcloth. The message of John and Jesus was “repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven” is at hand.

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation 11:3 – And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand

two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Revelation 7:4 – And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

The two witnesses and the 144,000 believers, who are a remnant of the Seed of the man child born of the woman Israel, will witness in Jerusalem for some 45 days in Jerusalem, and 1215 days in the Negev Wilderness, for a total of 1260 days.

They will have the testimony of the woman’s Seed, Jesus Christ, which keep the commandments of God.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Revelation 12:17 – And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

The two witnesses will be killed by Antichrist when he sets up the abomination that “maketh desolate” on the Temple Mount.

Their bodies will be resurrected after three and one-half days and ascend into heaven through a cloud.

A great earthquake will occur in the same hour they ascend, and the 144,000 will give glory to God. On the same day the 144,000 and all the saved on the earth will be quickly caught up to be judged in heaven. (BOOM – BOOM – BOOM)

Revelation 11:12-15 – And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And THEY ASCENDED up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. [13] And THE SAME HOUR was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

[14] The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe COMETH QUICKLY.

[15] And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The two witnesses and 144,000 will begin to testify 30 days after the attack and

will testify for 1260 days.

Antichrist will kill the two witnesses and declare himself to be God on the Temple Mount making himself the “abomination that maketh desolate.”

Three and one-half days later three events occur in rapid succession on the same day: (1) The two witnesses ascend into heaven, (2) A great earthquake occurs, and (3) The seventh trump sounds and all the saved are caught up, including the sealed 144,000.

After the rapture of all the saved the remainder of the two million Jews which make up the woman Israel will call on the name of the Lord and he will save them. In a single day a nation will be born. They will be protected from the seven vials of wrath being poured out on the earth while those already caught out are being judged for rewards in heaven. This remnant shall go into the Millennium in bodies of flesh saved by the grace of God in Christ Jesus.

Acts 2:20,21 – The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: [21] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Zechariah 13:9 – And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

Hosea 1:10 – Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

Psalm 2:1,2 – Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? [2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

When the kings of Israel and God’s chosen people rejected God’s anointed Son and his Kingdom, Israel was temporarily rejected. It was a Kingdom rejection. God then turned to the Gentiles until they, like Israel, fell away from faith in Christ as his Anointed Son. The kings of the nations today in mass have tried to take Christ out of everything.

It has turned the great historical church buildings of Europe into spiritual tombs where those attending them are kept by tradition, physical beauty in architecture, and the ceremonial pomp and religious garments. The United States has been following a historical European religious pattern of attracting people into buildings by their beauty and physical services, hoping they will become spiritual after they are drawn inside the buildings.

The word of God

is the most beautiful gift of Jesus left on the earth. It does not require the enhancement of man to make it more beautiful, ceremonial, or compatible.

We have a wonderful facility and a fine environmental setting given to us by God here at Dardanelle, so I am certainly not opposed to physical beauty or creature comforts. These things give small comfort to individual members in their times of tragedy when compared to the comfort of the word of God.

John 6:62,63 – What and if ye shall see the Son of

man ascend up where he was before? [63] It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Matthew 23:37 to 24:2 – O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! [38] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. [39] For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

[1] And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. [2] And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things

? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Israel as a nation has been as blind as a bat toward her Messiah in that she refuses to acknowledge him as the Son of the God of Old Testament Israel. Consequently, as they read or hear the Old Testament, they harden their hearts such that they pull the vail of rejection tighter upon themselves, remaining in unbelief. But that vail will lift in the Negev Wilderness, a remnant of Israel will believe, and the fullness of the Gentile Age will come in as it ends at the Second Advent of the Son of God.

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Luke 21:27,28 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. [28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

II Corinthians 3:12-16 – Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: [13] And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: [14] But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. [15] But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. [16] Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

Romans 11:23-27 – And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. [24] For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? [25] For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. Two of the three great faiths of the Middle East are the Jewish and Islamic beliefs, and they both deny Jesus is the Son of God, which is the teaching of antichrist.

The two faiths will go against one another tooth and nail in a war I think likely to begin at some point in time between 2013 and 2015, which will end in a truce once the Antichrist has driven the Israelis into the Negev Wilderness from Beersheba to the Gulf of Aqaba. The truce will be broken some three and one-half years later to begin the final battle of the Age of the Gentiles, which is the battle of Armageddon.

These two verses of the 1000 BC prophetic Psalm of David were fulfilled when the kings of the earth, both Jew and Gentile Rome, took council together and crucified the direct anointed descendent of David, through both Joseph’s line in Matthew 1 and Mary’s line in Luke 3, the Son of David and the Son of God, the man Christ Jesus. The effect of their action, taken in the initial fulfillment, is still in the process of being fulfilled across the surface of this present day earth.

Jesus knew how the preaching the truth of the word of God to ungodly man would affect the majority of the world with the passage of time.

There will be multitudes of souls in heaven, eternally saved by the grace of God in Christ Jesus, with little to no reward, because they refused to let him save (convert) the lives their sealed soul lived in the flesh by the same grace that saved their souls. They were judged by Jesus not worthy to live in the city of the New Jerusalem.

In its May 30, 2011 editorial, titled “Afghan killings,” the Saudi English-language daily Arab News discussed the U.S. military’s mission in Afghanistan, stating: “[I]f this war was about avenging the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington, [which were] ostensibly carried out by Al-Qaeda – [now,] with the outfit wiped out in Afghanistan and even its figurehead leader [Osama bin Laden] killed in neighboring Pakistan… the U.S. m ission in the region

is already accomplished.

The West has no excuse or business to be around now.

..”

The editorial concludes: “What’s going on in Afghanistan today is resistance against occupation… The U.S. must learn from history. It is in its own interest to end this conflict and to leave while it can — with dignity.”

“This War [In Afghanistan] Is Only Fueling Anti-Western Anger in the Region and Across the Muslim World”

‘A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths a statistic,’ argued the late Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. For the United States and its NATO allies, the killing of 52 Afghan civilians, at least 12 of them young children and two women, on Saturday night [May 28] in another airstrike is merely another statistic in the ‘war on terror.’

“And if the killing of civilians in the bombing of a residential compound in Helmand drew angry protests and ‘warnings’ by President Hamid Karzai, they were predictably followed by ‘sincere apologies’ by the coalition

saying ‘top priority is given to prevent civilian casualties and it takes such cases very seriously.’ Karzai thunders that he has repeatedly warned the coalition

against air raids that kill innocents and that this is his ‘last warning’ to the coalition. And the White House says it takes ‘Afghan concerns very seriously,’ adding, ‘We work very hard to avoid civilian casualties.’

“We have been here before of course. We have seen many such ‘warnings’ by the Afghan president and many such ‘apologies’ by the coalition. Media pundits and human rights groups will express their ‘outrage’ for a d

ay or two and move on.

Little will change on the ground.

The farce goes on – until there is another airstrike killing more innocent people.

“The truth is, the world has grown weary of this decade-long war and doesn’t really care two hoots whether it’s Taliban insurgents or innocent civilians who are wiped out by the indiscriminate U.S.-NATO bombings. The Americans do not want to be reminded of the mess created by their trillion-dollar war abroad at a time when they have more pressing things to worry about, like the economy and jobs.

As a result, the coalition forces kill at will – and with impunity.

“What will it take to wake up the conscience of the world, and of the Americans, over this wretched, interminable war? Tens of thousands of innocents have been killed in the U.S.-NATO air raids and ‘operations’ on the ground – many times more than those killed in Taliban attacks. And this war is supposed to bring freedom, democracy and peace to Afghanistan! How many more must die before the international community asked the West to leave Afghanistan? Why do we not see Vietnam [era]-like anti-war protests around the world?

Assad toughs it out against US-Turkish ultimatum to halt military crackdown

As his tanks and artillery stormed the eastern Syrian town of Deir al-Zour, killing 100 civilians in one day, the US and Turkey Sunday night, Aug. 7 began to turn the screw on President Bashar Assad: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked Turkey’s foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu to press Syria to “return its military to the barracks,” during his visit to Syria Tuesday

DEBKAfile: Behind the demand was an ultimatum that if Assad continued on his present bloody path, NATO member Turkey would intervene militarily in the crisis.
However, the Syrian ruler with backing from Tehran spurned the ultimatum even before the Turkish minister reached Damascus.

“He will be given an even tougher message to take home,” said one of Assad’s top advisers.

DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources report that in the last few days, Tehran has repeatedly warned Ankara that Iran will not stand aside for a military operation against Syria and would come to the aid of the Assad regime.

It was indicated that Turkish attacks on Syrian military targets would bring forth Iranian attacks on the Turkish army and American bases in Turkey.

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah recalled his ambassador to Damascus Monday, demanding an end to the bloodshed.

“What is happening in Syria is not acceptable for Saudi Arabia,” he said in a written statement read out on Al Arabiya satellite television.

Our military sources report that Assad was not deterred from pushing on Monday with his assault on the oil town of Deir al-Zour for the second day. For the first time in the five-month crackdown on protesters, the Syrian military are using self-propelled heavy artillery against rebel targets in a wide radius around the town to prevent the approach of rebel reinforcements.

Although he knew the US-Turkish ultimatum was coming, he embarked on his Deir el-Zour operation Sunday in order to present Washington and Ankara with a fait accompli.

Sunday, Aug. 7, disclosed that Ankara’s threat of military intervention was back in play.

After capturing the northern town of Hama in a bloody military assault, Syrian President Bashar Assad Sunday, Aug. 7, sent a whole division of 200 tanks and dozens of armored vehicles to blast their way into another rebellious city, Syria’s oil center of Deir el-Zour in the Euphrates Valley, a town of half a million inhabitants. At least 70 people were reported dead in one day.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that while Hama is a Muslim Brotherhood stronghold, Deir el-Zour is the urban center of some 2.1 million members of assorted nomadic Bedouin tribes. They too are Sunni Muslims though of different sects.

The Baqqara tribal federation is the largest, numbering 1.2 million, followed by the Fadan Walad and the Fadan Kharsa of the Euphrates Valley and the al Shammar Karsah of Deir al Zour and its environs.

Unlike the protesters of Hama, these tribesmen lack anti-tank weapons for battling Syrian armor and so their town may not hold out against the Syrian onslaught beyond two or three days. The tribesmen have meanwhile run for cover to the dense papyrus groves of the river bank and the narrow wadis of the Iraqi al Anbar province just across the border. From these hiding places, our military sources expect them refugees to organize protracted guerrilla warfare against the Assad regime and Syrian army.

DEBKAfile recalls that these are the very tribes which from 2003 to 2006 joined al Qaeda in bloody warfare on US forces in central Iraq, preventing Anbar and the central Iraqi towns of Falujja

and Ramadi ever being completely subdued and constantly convulsed by suicide attacks.

It was only when President George W.

Bush agreed to implement the Awakening Councils plan put forward by Gen. David Petraeus, the current CIA Director, which involved substantial monthly payments to the tribal chiefs for warfare against al Qaeda that, Al Anbar was pacified.

Aware of the menace posed by these tribes, Syrian security services last week – ahead of the Deir el-Zour offensive – captured the Baqqara tribal chief Sheikh Nawaf al-Bashir as hostage against the tribes joining the uprising against the regime. Syrian military intelligence will find him a tough nut to crack – even for a heavy bribe.

The upshot may well be that although the Syrian army finally subjugates Deir al-Zour and Abu Kemal on the Iraqi border its forces will be cornered by Sunni tribes which control the road networks around the two eastern towns and prey to their raids.

Assad’s offensive against the two towns also places at risk Syria’s small oil fields and pipeline system. Their daily product of $8-10 million is his primary source of revenue for sustaining his war on the uprising and they will certainly become a prime strategic target for the resistance.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan decided to send his foreign minister Ahmed Davutoglu to Damascus Tuesday, Aug. 9, after declaring Saturday that Turkey’s patience with its neighbor “was running thin and his country could not remain a bystander to the violence… but must do what is necessary.”Davutoglu will “deliver our message in a more determined way,” said Erdogan. “…a new process will take shape according to their response and actions.”

“We do not see Syria as a foreign problem, Syria is our domestic problem because we have a 850-kilometer border with this country, we have historical and cultural ties, we have kinship,” Erdogan said.

This was the last warning from Ankara – and therefore NATO – that Turkey was about to intervene militarily in Syria, after maintain army units on the Syrian border for weeks.

Friday, Aug. 5, Russia’s NATO ambassador Dmitry Rogozin accused NATO, of which Turkey is a member, of planning a military campaign against Syria to help overthrow the Assad regime “with the long-reaching goal of preparing a beachhead for an attack on Iran.”

Following are excerpts from an interview with Syrian blogger Milad ‘Umran, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on June 24, 2011.

Milad ‘Umran: “Each and every one of us [Syrians] has dozens of stories about people who disappeared, people who were tortured, people who… Stories about the things the intelligence agency did to the Syrian people… Each of us has such stories. I have images seared in my memory. All these things are taboo, things that cannot be talked about, but they exist within us.

“I remember, for instance, that when I was five years old, I saw our neighbor… This is an image that is indelibly seared in my memory. I saw our neighbor when he came to visit my father. He had just been [released] from detention. I don’t know what he did. Chances are he did nothing. He showed my dad the marks on his back. I was only five years old. He lifted his shirt and showed my dad what they did to him. His back was… It’s impossible to imagine that anybody, even a criminal, would do something like that to another human being.

“We have been waiting for this moment our entire lives. The [uprising] is something we expected would happen, and we expected that it would exact a high toll. Every tyrant would fight to the death.

“The truth has come out, and they can no longer hide it. It is documented and brought to life through the cell phones of eye-witnesses, and the thousands who participated in the demonstrations. Only 1% [of what happened] has come to light.

Heinous things took place there. We have seen the true face of the regime.

“Perhaps only 1% of these images have been uploaded to the Internet, but these things will emerge for the whole world to see. More importantly, it should be seen within Syria.

When we upload a video to the Internet, it is for our own people to see, not [just] the world. We should never rely on the world to bring about change for us.

If our people do not bring about change, nothing will change.”

U.S., Europe Consider Boycott of Syrian Oil

The U.S. and European governments have begun to discuss whether to escalate sanctions against President Bashar al-Assad by targeting Syria’s oil industry, as officials on both continents are looking at stepped-up measures to pressure Assad. While the U.S. has little economic leverage on Syria, having cut off most trade years ago, the Europeans buy about half of Syria’s oil. France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands are the biggest customers. Syria’s petroleum exports of 150,000 barrels per day account for one-third of government revenue.

“If these [sanctions] are implemented, does it immediately mean the regime stops killing? No,” said Andrew Tabler, a Syria expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

“But does it mean several months from now the regime runs out of money? Yes.”

The U.S. ambassador in Damascus, Robert Ford, said this week that previous sanctions were starting to bite. “More and more business people, especially Sunni business people – an important pillar of the regime’s support – we do see them slowly but surely shifting sides.” (Washington Post)

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Thursday he has warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that he will face a “sad fate” if he fails to introduce reforms and open a peaceful dialogue with the opposition. “Both on a personal level and in the letters I sent to him (Assad) I have emphasized that it’s necessary to urgently conduct reforms, negotiate with the opposition, restore civil peace, and create a modern state,” Medvedev said in remarks carried by Russian news agencies. Syrian human rights activists said Thursday that Syrian government forces had killed more than 100 people in Hama since seizing control of its central square with armored columns and snipers on Wednesday, doubling the count of civilian dead there to more than 200 since the military’s tanks began shelling the city over the weekend. Cars trying to carry food into the city have been attacked, and doctors trying to treat the wounded were being detained. One resident in Hama said that most women and children had fled the city. A source in the National Alliance of various Shi’a groups in Iraq that support Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has told the London daily al-Sharq al-Awsat that “Iran has pressured its allies in Baghdad to support the Syrian authorities with $10 billion.” He said that al-Maliki had “succumbed to the pressure and provided financial support to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.”

According to the same source, Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Dana’i Fer carried a verbal message from Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Brigade commander Gen. Qassim Suleimani (who is rumored to be one of the most influential figures in Baghdad) to the leaders of the National Alliance to provide $10 billion in financial support to the Syrian leader.
