ATOMIC WAR IN ISRAEL IN TRIBULATION PERIOD –- YES OR NO?

TO GO BOOM-BOOM-BOOM, OR NOT TO GO BOOM-BOOM-BOOM

THAT IS A GREAT PROPHETIC QUESTION OF THIS GENTILE AGE!

THE LATEST NEWS INVOLVING THIS QUESTION IS IN EXCERPT

NUMBER 3 IN A SERIES WHICH I BEGAN ADDRESSING IN 1976!

This is Number 3 in the Series over a long period of time from 2003 to 2011. I am even more confident now than when I issued Numbers 1 and 2, which follow, that we not see a nuclear war in Israel.

Atomic War in Israel – Yes or No? – Number 2

More than a year ago I issued Special Prophecy Update Number 129C, titled “Atomic War in Israel, Yes or No?” I would like to reaffirm my belief in its validity in Number 2. The original Update 129C, issued July 23, 2003, was as follows: (BEGIN QUOTE OF 129C)

“One of the main reasons I wrote three books on prophecy in

after clomid

the late seventies and early eighties was to establish a case advocated by teachers of the pre-World War II era. It was, simply stated, that man would not destroy the earth with his weaponry, but rather that God would destroy the earth by the use of this own power. I am certain that the horrifying changes in the topography of Israel, as well as the terrifying destruction of the antichrist’s forces at Armageddon, are by the awesome power of God, not atomic, chemical, or biological weapons of man. The lifting of the land from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem, the breaking up of Jerusalem into three sections, the splitting of the Mount of Olives, and the consuming of the flesh, tongues, and eyes of the antichrist’s men are natural phenomena unleashed by God, not by man. All the Scriptures dealing with these phenomena unleashed by God are covered in Birth Pang and Prophecy Archives.

There are many advocates of a great atomic, chemical, and biological war in Israel when the antichrist attacks 1260 days before Armageddon. It might happen at the time of Armageddon, but the initial attack will start what amounts to a non-nuclear, non-chemical, and non-biological war.

female viagra

So why am I so confident and outspoken about this being the case?

Israel has numerous extremely well concealed missile sites in the Negev between Beersheba and the Gulf of Aqabah.

(1) It has more than 300 nuclear, chemical, and biological warheads to mount on Jericho missiles.

(2) The Jericho is a very accurate missile, and can hit a target in any Islamic country from Morocco to Pakistan and from Turkey to Yemen.

(3) Israel has an excellent anti-missile defense to protect its array of silos, warheads, and missiles. It is able to pick up an incoming enemy missile launched from Syria before it reaches it maximum altitude.

(4) So why do I believe this array of WMD will not be unleashed by Israel when it is attacked? Because the Israeli War Contingency Plan of Israel directs that WMD will never be launched against a foreign nation unless they are first launched against Israel.

(5) So how do I know the Islamic countries will not launch WMD in their initial attack? All of them are well aware of what is listed in (1) through (5)! The former Soviet Union, which it existed, shared Israeli intelligence information with Syria, which it collected over a long period of time from its hundreds of spy satellites it launched from pads between Moscow and the White Sea, and on the eastern side of the Aral Sea. Syria, in turn, has shared it with some of the other Islamic countries around Israel. Only a leader possessed of rank insanity would ever launch WMD first against Israel, which is why I was so relieved when Saddam Hussein was taken out of the way.

Many believe the United States will quickly rush to the aid of Israel, and, as the world’s greatest power, will immediately deliver her from any kind of attack she can’t handle. There are two problems with this idea: (1) The United States believes Israel can defeat any Islamic attack on its own without any help from us.

doxycycline cat

After all, Israel has easily done so in three previous wars and, (2) This will be a lightning Jihad, and better coordinated than any of the previous wars, and this time Israel will have a Palestinian state attacking it from within, while the other Islamic nations come in from outside its borders. It will probably last less than a month or two, and Jerusalem is likely to fall within a month. By the time we decide they must have our help it will be too late, because they will have occupied most of the land from Dan to Beersheba.

cipro 500

It would take months, as it did in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Freedom Iraq, to get enough American troops on the ground to do any good.

how do antibiotics affect birth control pills

What was the character of Israel’s past three wars? They were all very short in duration, and they all ended abruptly in a truce. That will be the case in this war. The United States knows that the Negev is the place where Israel will flee. When we believe they are safely in the Negev, we will be more than willing to accept a truce to give us time to think about what to do, and Israel will remain trapped in the Negev for some three and one-half years.

The part played by the United States during this period of three and one-half years is interspersed throughout our Prophecy Archives, with some of it in Prophecy Updates 5 through 11, 32 & 33, and 74 & 75.”

(END QUOTE OF UPDATE 129C).

(CONTINUE QUOTE OF UPDATE 187A)

Since Update 129C was issued, several noteworthy things have come to pass that reduce the likelihood of a nuclear war in the Middle East. The area is headed toward a situation where both sides will realize a nuclear war would leave the victor, or victors, in such a powerless state, that any future they might have would be desolate, and leave them in a position of great vulnerability to the rest of the oil consuming nations. Some of these noteworthy recent events, which would tend to create a standoff, such as the one that developed between the United States and the once mighty Soviet Union, are as follows:

(1) Syria now has a better Scud than the Scud B. The Scud D missile, considered to be the most sophisticated weapon of its kind, is now in the hands of the Syrian military.

add comment effects levitra side

It is able to deliver nuclear, chemical, or biological multiple warheads to their targets in Israel from Syria.

(2) The jointly developed American-Israeli Arrow 2 missile successfully launched an Arrow 2 missile that destroyed a Scud B over the Pacific Ocean earlier this year. The Arrow 2 is designed to intercept an enemy missile before it reaches its peak altitude, far from Israeli territory. However, in a recent test against the Scud D, it failed to intercept the detached warhead. It was not a complete failure, and the results are in the process of being analyzed. Israel says it can still effectively destroy the Scud D.

(3) Syria also maintains a sizeable ballistic missile arsenal and, like Iran, is active in upgrading and expanding its capabilities.

(4) In June Iran announced it is building its first stealth missile, a rocket that can evade electronic detection. The missile was named Kowsar, in honor of the Kowsar river in paradise, which is found in the Koran, the Holy Book of Islam. Iran announced it would be capable of hitting ships and aircraft.

(5) Iran is continuing to steam toward development of its own nuclear bomb, which many believe it could develop as early as next year.

nolvadex tablets

It is now going underground, and spreading out its nuclear development sites in order to limit the damage that could be incurred by an Israeli air strike, like the one carried out on Iraq’s nuclear facility in 1981.

(6) Iran is manufacturing various missiles, chief among them being the Shahab-3, whose range of 1300 km (793 mi) allows it to reach Israel. It is designed to carry up

to a 700-kilogram conventional warhead. But the Iranians are currently developing the Shihab 4 and 5, with ranges of 3000 km (1830 mi) and 6000 km (3660 mi), which puts all of Europe in its sights, and these both missiles will be able to carry chemical, nuclear, and biological weapons.

(7) At the same time that Iran and Syria are attempting to manufacture weapons of mass destructions, and the missiles to deliver them, they are also building up their conventional arsenal of weapons.

buy zithromax non-prescription

Iran has been making its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, and fighter planes, inside its own borders for some time. They have been guided by the designs of weaponry supplied to them by North Korea, Russia, and even China in both their conventional and non-conventional programs of weaponry development. The huge payments from the Iranian oil money have, for some time, helped to keep the Russian Economy afloat, and the North Korean economy from completely collapsing.

I do not believe there will be a nuclear, biological or chemical war in the Middle East. I have long been convinced of this. It will be a great war, but only conventional weapons will be used. I will not rule out the possibility of some being used at Armageddon, but I really don’t believe they will be launched even then.

It is no secret that, if left unchecked, Iran is determined to become a global nuclear power with long range nuclear missiles that could strike Europe, plus NATO and American forces within a 3600 mile radius, and the United States and Israel are determined to not let that happen. Unless Israel strikes Iranian nuclear facilities it will develop a nuclear bomb.

Begin Excerpt from DEBKAfile Special Report

Iran has secretly stocked enriched uranium for four nuclear bombs

DEBKAfile Special Report

June 3, 2011, 8:24 AM (GMT+02:00)

The Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, American’s scientific watchdog on world nuclear weapons production, estimates that by Dec. 2008, Iran had accumulated enough U-235 to fuel one nuclear bomb; by 2009, enough for a second, by August 2010 material for a third bomb and by April 2011, enough enriched uranium for a fourth bomb.

These estimates presuppose an Iranian decision to further process low-enriched material to weapons grade – a process taking no more than a couple of months.

Iran, says the Wisconsin Project, is consolidating its status as a “virtual” nuclear weapon state – meaning it can set about building a bomb whenever its rulers so decide.

In its twice-annual report published Thursday, June 2, Wisconsin revealed three further developments in Iran’s nuclear drive:

1. Since November 2010, when Iran stopped enriching uranium in all cascades at the Natanz plant for about a week (the report does not give the reason for the stoppage – possibly a Stuxnet virus invasion of its computer control system), the enrichment rate has increased. The 5,000 centrifuges spinning in February 2011 increased to nearly 6,000 in May 2011.

DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources add: Prof. Ferei-doon Abbasi Davani has taken over as director of the enrichment complex at Natanz.

He was formerly in charge of combating the Stuxflex worm. Last November, Prof. Abbasi Dayani escaped with light injuries from an attack by a pair of motorcyclists who attached a sticky bomb to his car.

2b contraindications synthroid

It occurred near the Imam Hossein University in Tehran where most of Iran’s secret nuclear labs are located.

buy head strong

Wisconsin quotes the International Atomic Energy Agency’s May 2011 report that one of its seals was broken in the “feed and withdrawal area” of the Natanz enrichment plant.

2.This means that Iran took action to conceal the real amount of is enriched uranium stockpile from the nuclear watchdog and the fact, as Wisconsin reports, that it has accumulated enough material for building four nuclear bombs. Its steady progress will go undetected until the next IAEA inventory in October or November.

3. DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources point out that Tehran has won a period of six to seven months for keeping its nuclear activities hidden from oversight with no one in the West or in Israel able to find out what is going on at the Natanz enrichment plant.

4. Wisconsin goes on to state: “Uncertainties about the number of centrifuges operated by Iran make it difficult to draw a conclusion about the performance of individual machines.” More machines may be switched on when IAEA inspectors are not present while less, more advanced centrifuges, may take over after the inspection is over.

Our sources stress that these revelations are highly pertinent to the controversy taking place in Israel over the surprising comments by ex-Mossad Director Meir Dagan.

Dubbed “Mister Stop the Bomb” for reputedly directing covert operations that held off Iran’s nuclear threat for five or six years – though this may an exaggeration – Dagan suddenly began speaking out strongly against any Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear program. Wednesday, June 1, he implicitly warned that such an attack would precipitate a regional war in which Israel would fare badly.

Israel’s political and defense establishments have always had their doves but Dagan is sounding one like for the first time.

The controversy around his comments reflects a similar argument afoot in US political and defense circles over whether the time has come to smash Iran’s nuclear capability or stand by and let the Islamic Republic becomes a “virtual nuclear weapon state.”

In the last three years, the two schools of thought for and against military action against Iran have been joined by a third, which affirms that the US and Israel can live with an Iran armed with one or two nuclear bombs because this number would be dwarfed even by Israel’s reputed stock let alone the American arsenal. Therefore, until Iran stockpiles a serous arsenal of weapons, it does not const

zithromax

itute an existential threat to Israel.

The Wisconsin Project’s latest report explodes this argument because it exposes the steady accumulation of materials for four bombs in two-and-a-half years and Iran’s dogged advance toward a serious arsenal unless it is stopped.

That is the reason why the military option is back on the table in Jerusalem

Bashar Assad Made the Wrong Choice Two Years Ago!

January 21, 2006

The last two BLOGS have been about the two day “terror summit” just finished in Damascus between the Syrian and Iranian Presidents. The die was cast for this summit almost two years ago.

Bashar Assad made the Wrong Choice Two Years ago as we reported in Special Prophecy Update Number 161C, titled, “Syria Makes a Very Bad Choice!” During the Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s Thursday and Friday visit to Syria, he and Syrian President Bashar Assad formed a “front” to oppose what Ahmadinejad identified as world “arrogance and domination.” Once Assad made his choice

Syria Makes a Very Bad Choice

I have always believed and taught that the most likely part of the old Roman Empire, which would foster the rise of the Antichrist, would be Syria. Syria has been hanging suspended between two choices: (1) Turn toward the United States in order to avoid sanctions, and to gain support from the western world in a war on terror, or, (2) Turn toward Iran to make an alliance and continue to give support to all the terrorist groups.

body bro good levitra stuff up whats yea yea

On February 28 Syria apparently made its choice.

after clomid

The Iranian Defense Minister, Admiral Ali Shamkhani, came to Damascus and signed a new military pact with the Syrian Defense Minister, General Mustufa Tias. I believe this is a clear sign that President Assad has made his choice to put his trust in an Iran-Syria Axis to protect his administration from a coup by terrorist groups in his own country. President Assad has been active recently in communications with Washington to see what they would give him in the way of security if he should choose to give up sponsoring the many terrorist group offices in Syria, and Hizbollah in Lebanon. Really, he did not have much of a choice. Had he turned pro-west and resisted the terrorist groups, his regime would have been overthrown in a matter of weeks. Syria’s new military pact with Iran likely contains an Iranian promise to invest in additional long range Scud-C missiles, now in mass production at Syria’ s underground mi

ssile facility near Hamah.

The United States and Europe wanted Syria to follow Libya’s lead, but Bashar Assad was really in no political position to do so without being overthrown by the terrorist elements in his own country. There were four things the United States wanted Syria to give up.

(1) Scrap your long-range missile program.

(2) Scrap your WMD program.
(3) Drive all the terrorist groups out of Syria.
(4) Stop supporting Hizbollah in Lebanon.

I feel confident it was a choice Bashar Assad simply could not make.

Iran and Syria are of the same mind on these four issues. Had Syria chosen to do those four things, it would have cut Iran’s flow of weaponry and the movement of terrorists to Hizbollah. Syria was left without any military backup with the fall of Iraq, so Assad has chosen to shore up and expand its existing ties with Iran, and create new military ties with them for a joint defense against the west. The strong showing by the radical Shiite hardliners in Iran’s elections last month was a strong element that Assad considered in making his choice.

Iranian Shiites will continue to have a direct pipeline via Damascus airport for massive shipments of military hardware to the large Hizbollah terrorist army, which it has supported in southern Lebanon for years, as have the Syrians.

During Ahmadinejad’s visit Syria expressed support for Iran’s nuclear right to have

Syria and Iran also demanded a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign occupation forces from Iraq.

Bloody Friday in Hama Syria as History Repeats Itself

by INN Staff

June 4, 2011

Reuters News Agency reported that Syrian security forces shot dead at least 34 demonstrators in the Syrian town of Hama on Friday, as once again protesters were mown down as they left Friday’s noon prayers.

The revolt against President Bashar al-Assad is in its 11th week and security forces, including snipers, fired into a crowd of thousands in an attempt to bring it to an end.

“The firing began from rooftops on the demonstrators. I saw scores of people falling in Assi square and the streets and alleyways branching out. Blood was everywhere,” a witness who gave his name as Omar told Reuters from Hama.

“It looked to me as if hundreds of people have been injured but I was in a panic and wanted to find cover. Funerals for the martyrs have already started,” he said.

HIstory may be repeating itself in Hama, where Bashar’s father, Hafez, slaughtered at least 30,000 of his own citizens in 1982, in order to supress a revolt.

Rami Abdulrahman of the Syrian Observ atory for Human Rights told Reuters he expected the de

One person was reported killed in Idlib, in the Kurdish northeast, and forces also opened fire on demonstrations in the eastern city of Deir al-Zor and in Damascus’ Barzeh district where thousands demonstrated on Friday. Residents defied the curfew in Deraa and came out to protest.

According to human rights groupsm security forces have killed more than 1,000 civilians since March. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who originally called Assad a “reformer” has said that his legitimacy “had nearly run out.” Although the United States has joined NATO operations in Libya aimed at toppling Qaddafi, who has also killed his own citizens, no similar actions have been announced against Assad. The EU, Australia and the United States have passed sanctions against the regime.

Assad has responded to this continuing revolt against his rule with violence accompanied by promises of reforms, which protestors have dismissed as irrelevant. The media blackout instituted by the regime has made a mockery of those promises and news is dependent on activists who manage to communicate via the web.

A 13-year-old boy, Hamza al-Khatib, who is said to have been tortured to death, has become the symbol of the human rights outrages perpetrated by Assad’s forces. His picture is seen at protests.

Palestinians prepare for ‘Naksa’ marches on Israel’s border

Hundreds of thousands join Facebook campaign to mark ‘setback’ of Six Day War; IDF to deploy larger forces along northern frontiers to avoid repeat of Nakba Day violence.

Following the example of this month’s Nakba Day marches, Palestinians and their supporters are preparing to launch another multipronged assault on Israel’s borders this week to mark the “Naksa,” or setback, of Arab defeat and territorial losses in the 1967 Six Day War.

The website “Third Palestinian Intifada” and its Facebook page, “Countdown to the Third Palestinian Intifada,” have posted detailed plans for marches on Israel’s borders with Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Gaza, as well as processions to Jerusalem’s Al- Aksa Mosque, on three separate dates before and during the war’s anniversary.

The group’s “plan of action” calls for mass rallies on June 3, 5 and 7 – the Friday leading up to the Six Day War anniversary, the date on which the war began and the date Israeli troops took Jerusalem, respectively.

Thirteen people were killed on May 15, Nakba Day, while trying to breach Israel’s borders with Syria and Lebanon.

Many of the protesters killed had been shot by the Lebanese Army as the group approached the border with Israel.

Similar rallies were held on Israel’s borders with Jordan and Gaza, and in the West Bank. In the day’s most dramatic incident, three people were killed by IDF fire when around 100 Syrians broke through the Golan Heights border fence at Majdal Shams. Another 10 were killed by Lebanese troops on the Israel-Lebanon border.

This time, military officials said the IDF will deploy larger forces along Israel’s northern borders to avoid a repeat of the Nakba Day disturbances.

The officials said they expect the rallies to be relatively peaceful, and that they hope an effective troop deployment can prevent border infiltrations altogether.

“The goal is twofold,” one defense official said. “To prevent infiltrations, and at the same time, to try to ensure there are no casualties on either side.”

The May 15 border rallies were coordinated largely through social media sites, and organizers predict an even greater turnout this time around.

“We will renew the memory of the Naksa, and we will make it a setback to the occupying entity,” organizers wrote on Facebook. “Thus we declare with all our strength and with our loudest voice that the seventh of June, which marks the rape of Jerusalem… is a day of allegiance to Jerusalem in all countries of the world.”

In March, Facebook closed a page calling for a third intifada against Israel after Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein complained it was inciting violence.

The current Facebook page, under a slightly different name, was created in early April, and by mid-May had been followed, or “liked,” by 100,000 people. Over the last two weeks the page’s following has grown to over 375,000.

Organizers wrote that the Nakba Day events prove historic Palestine can be “liberated” by mass unarmed marches, provided the “umma,” or Islamic nation, is willing to pay any price, including a million martyrs.

250mg levaquin

“Our intifada continues, Israel is about to depart, and with God’s help we will all pray in the mosques and churches of Jerusalem,” they wrote.

Similar notices have been posted on other pro-Palestinian websites.

“On Sunday, June 5, the 44th commemoration of the Naksa, or setback – Israel’s 1967 expulsion of 300,000 Palestinians following the Six Day War – Palestinian refugees will return en masse to the borders,” said an article on the International Solidarity Movement homepage.

Meanwhile, the administrators of a popular Facebook page dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad have changed the profile picture to an announcement that the “Continuing Palestinian Intifada” will begin on June 7.

best cialis levitra viagra which

The page, “Rassoul Allah,” is one of the most popular of thousands dedicated to the Muslim prophet, with 3.7 million “likes.”

Ofir Gendelman, the Prime Minister’s Office spokesman for Arabic media, said Israel is ready to use “any means necessary” to protect its borders.

“Activity on Facebook calling for people to march on the borders has grown in recent weeks, and there are pages telling people exactly where to go,” he said. “Of course we’re familiar with this activity both on Facebook and Twitter, and have been for some time. We’re prepared for any eventuality, whether by use of the police, army, security forces, Foreign Ministry and of course the Prime Minister’s Office, to provide a security response to attempts to enter into our territory.

“These people want 300 or 400 casualties in order to create a media and geopolitical tsunami to distract the world’s attention from what’s happening in Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority, and to direct it at Israel,” he said.

“We must remember that not all those who click ‘like’ on Facebook are going to board a bus and ride to the border.

There’s a difference between clicking ‘like’ and taking the personal risk of trying to breach the border,” he said.

“I’m certain the other side will get the message – that we won’t let anyone in, whatever the price. They won’t get in.

The borders under our sovereignty will be maintained, whatever the price.”

According to Third Palestinian Intifada’s “plan of action,” following prayers on Friday, Arabs in Israel, the West Bank and Jerusalem will march on the Al- Aksa Mosque to declare their “allegiance” to the holy city. Egyptians are instructed to gather in Tahrir Square to do the same, as are residents of “the rest of the Arab, Islamic and Western capitals.” Gazans and Jordanians are encouraged to march on their respective borders with Israel.

Two days later, Arab residents of Israel, the West Bank and Jerusalem are again instructed to march on Al-Aksa Mosque, and to “clash with Israeli soldiers in contact areas,” while in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, protesters are to march “peacefully” to their respective border with Israel.

In the capitals of Arab, Islamic and Western countries, rallies are planned outside “Zionist embassies,” including Israel’s diplomatic missions in Egypt.

On June 7, “millions of Arabs, Muslims, Christians and liberals of the world, led by university students in different places will swear allegiance to Jerusalem on the day Jerusalem fell and the mosques and churches fell to the hands of the Zionists.”

Organizers are calling again for marches on Al-Aksa Mosque, and for a “construction convoy” from Egypt to Gaza to bring building materials to the Strip.

“The process of empowerment and liberation, which started in Tunisia and Egypt, should end with the liberation of Jerusalem and Palestine,” organizers wrote. “Palestine will be liberated from the river to the sea, and the sea to the river.”

Eyal Zisser, a senior research fellow at Tel Aviv University’s Dayan Center, said the association between “Nakba” and “Naksa” is problematic from Israel’s perspective in that it identifies the defeat of 1967 with calls for the return of refugees from the War of Independence.

“If we convince ourselves that our problem with the Arab world is not that they are unwilling to accept our existence, but that it’s over the West Bank and Gaza, then why are the Palestinians linking the return of refugees with the ’67 borders?” he said.

Iran Aiding Syrian Crackdown

Joby Warrick

(Washington Post)

U.S. officials say Iran is dispatching increasing numbers of trainers and advisers – including members of its elite Quds Force – into Syria to help crush anti-government demonstrations that are threatening to topple Iran’s most important ally in the region.

The influx of Iranian manpower is adding to a steady stream of aid from Tehran that includes not only weapons and riot gear but also sophisticated surveillance equipment that is helping Syrian authorities track down opponents through their Facebook and Twitter accounts, the sources said.

Iranian-assisted computer surveillance is believed to have led to the arrests of hundreds of Syrians in recent weeks.

Ahmadinejad versus Khamenei: The Revolutionary Guards Win

Ali Alfoneh

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad risks impeachment following his failed attempt to wrest control over the Intelligence Ministry from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) supported Khamenei to reinstate the intelligence minister and restrict Ahmadinejad’s power. Whether Ahmadinejad is impeached or not, the latest conflict among the civilian leaders has made the IRGC the most important arbiter of power in the Islamic Republic. (American Enterprise Institute)

The Egyptian Army is among the largest and strongest in the Middle East. Its new leadership could care less about terrorist attacks on Israel along the Israel-Sinai border, but when Washington quickly proved by intelligence to the Egyptian army it would also have to defend the Suez and internal Egypt facilities, the army applied its national interests to change its border policy.

Cairo shuts Gaza’s Rafah crossing to free passage at US insistence

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

Just four days

and Sinai to free passage, Cairo virtually shut it down Tuesday, May 31, by a series of tight bureaucratic restrictions on Palestinian exit and entry.

DEBKAfile’s military and Washington sources disclose that Military Council Chairman Field Marshal Mohammed Tantawi personally signed the new orders in response to an insistent US demand based on the information that since the Rafah crossing opened to free passage Saturday, May 28, Palestinian and al Qaeda terrorists had swarmed through and were roaming at large across Sinai and laying the Suez Canal and its coastal cities open to attack. Washington warned him that terrorists still unlisted by Western or Egyptian counter-terror agencies would be free to reach Egypt, carry out attacks and return to the Gaza Strip unhindered unless careful restrictions were imposed to weed them out.

Tuesday, May 31, Tantawi informed Washington that new restrictions virtually shutting down the Rafah crossing were in place. Egypt then acceded to a US request to receive an Israeli defense official and discuss security coordination between Cairo and Jerusalem around their borders.

Amos Gilad, political adviser at the Israeli Defense Ministry, arrived in Cairo Wednesday and held talks with Egyptian officials, including intelligence minister Murad Muwafi, who briefed him on the new security measures at the Rafah border crossing, as first revealed here by DEBKAfile’s military sources:

1. Egypt has handed the Hamas government a blacklist of 5,000 Palestinians barred from access to the Rafah border post and entry to Egypt.

It covers the entire operations levels of the military arms of Hamas, Jihad Islami, the Palestinian “Fronts” and other extremist organizations based in the Gaza Strip.

2. Daily passage is limited to a quota of 400 – compared with 1,000-2,000 Palestinians who accessed the crossing in its first three days.

3. Palestinians seeking to travel for medical treatment will first be examined by an Egyptian medical panel which must approve their applications.

4. Cairo wants the list of 400 candidates for passage submitted in advance and does not promise permits for them all.

When informed of the new restrictions, Hamas leaders hit the ceiling and threatened Egypt’s military rulers with painful payback. Mahmoud a-Zahar, a top Hamas official in Gaza, was especially aggrieved.

The news reached him in Damascus where he had boasted of Hamas-Gaza’s success in achieving free passage between the Palestinian enclave and Egypt. Its leaders are now threatening, among other punitive measures, to have its troops shut down the Rafah crossing hermetically and show the world “the real face” of the military rulers of Egypt towards the Palestinians.
