What a Difference a “HE” Makes!

Almost 30 years ago I accepted the Pastorate of Dardanelle MBC, while still a Seminary student. I attended the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and Arkansas Tech University during the summers of my time in Seminary because it did not offer summer courses. I graduated from the Seminary in 1975 while enrolled full time at Arkansas Tech University, from which I graduated and began teaching at Dardanelle High School in 1977. I have not changed my beliefs on any of the things I was taught in Seminary concerning salvation, security of the believer, the two church ordinances, or the local identity of the church. However, there are many things I once believed in prophecy, that I am no longer able to teach with any conviction. I came to Dardanelle MBC like Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail, believing I was ready to teach prophecy. As I studied the doctrines of salvation, the church, and the church ordinances I discovered realms of Scripture to validate what I had been taught, but when I began to search for Scriptures that would fit all the diagrams from which I was teaching prophecy, I found very few I did not have to distort. I retired as a synoptic analyst in the National Security Agency, and I know quite well how to put the pieces of a puzzle together to form a whole premise. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are called the Synoptic Gospels, and they can be pieced together synoptically into a Harmony of the Gospels. All the pieces of the salvation-church-ordinances puzzle came together and formed a perfect picture of conformity, but the many pieces of the prophecy puzzle simply would not mesh together, unless I symbolized or spiritualized to a massive degree. I found that in our work there was indeed agreement on the doctrines of salvation, the two church ordinances, and the church itself, but in prophecy I found “first of the weekers,” mid-tribbers,” “seventh trumpers,” “last of the weekers,” split rapturists,” and “progressive rapturists” – Or Pre, Mid, Seventh Trump, Post, Split, and Progressive positions. I knew there had to be a reason for these great divisions, and was hopeful that perhaps the answer might be found in a historical search to see if all of them have always existed and, if not, when did each one arise. What I found staggered me. Before 1827 only three positions were taught – The Last of the Week, the Seventh Trumpet, and the Mid-Tribulation positions – And the Mid-Tribulation position was born in 1788 (See Updates 74A and 73D). During all my research I also discovered something that shocked me down to my toenails – Before 1800 the majority of Bible expositors believed that the “HE” in Daniel 9:27 is not the antichrist, but the true one, Jesus Christ.

I am convinced they were correct.

Daniel 9:27 – And HE shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of

the week HE shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations HE shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

I was fully aware of all this by 1992, but out of cowardice as to what I knew I would face from the bulk of my brethren, I would only teach it at the church I was pastor since 1974. My cowardice did not cause me to lie to the brethren – I simply stopped talking about the first three and one-half years of Daniel’s 70th week in my lectures, stopped presenting the worldwide antichrist empire that is taught today, and honed in on the last 1260 days of the tribulation period. I have believed the Seventh Trumpet position since 1982, and the “HE” of Daniel 9:27 as Jesus since 1992. Knowing that I must soon face my Savior, and give account of all I have taught from his Word, I decided to publicly declare what I believe about Daniel 9:27, for better or for worse. Many of the men who taught me prophecy, whom I love and deeply respect, may well denounce me and regret ever having known me, but I will one day stand before the judgment seat of Christ and, in all conscience, I cannot continue to keep this to myself. I was taught synoptic analysis in the AWS and NSA, and contextual analysis in Seminary. The synoptic subject of the contextual discourse in every verse of Daniel 9:24 to 27 is the Messiah the Prince, Jesus Christ. In verse 24 Jesus is “the most Holy” who is anointed. In verse 25 Jesus is “the Messiah the Prince.” In verse 26 Jesus is identified as “Messiah” who is cut off. And in verse 27 Jesus is the “he” who confirmed God’s blood covenant at his death in the “midst” of the last week of Daniel’s 70 weeks of years. Jesus has already confirmed most of the first three and one-half of the last week of seven prophetic years. The prophet Isaiah, who wrote some 150 years before Daniel, whose writings were probably in Daniel’s possession when he wrote during Babylonian captivity, wrote of the one who would fulfill the “covenant” of Daniel 9:27.

Isaiah 42:6 – I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

Simeon clearly revealed Jesus as the one who had come to fulfill the covenant to his people Israel, and as a light to lighten the Gentiles.

Luke 2:25-32 – And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. [26] And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. [27] And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, [28] Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, [29] Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: [30] For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, [31] Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; [32] A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

The word “he” in Daniel 9:27 does not refer back to the “prince that shall come” in Daniel 9:26 – That prince has already come, and the ones he led destroyed the temple and the city of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The “he” refers not to a coming antichrist, but to the contextual subject of each verse from 24 to 27 – Messiah the Prince, Jesus Christ. I am not waiting for an antichrist to destroy a sanctuary that was destroyed in Jerusalem more than 1900 years ago. I am waiting for the return of a Messiah who was cut off for my sins in the “midst” of Daniel’s last week after having fulfilled most of the first three and one-half years of it. The covenant was finished when the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, and a token sign of its fulfillment was manifested by resurrection of many of the Old Testament saints, who came out of their graves after his resurrection.

John 19:30 – When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Matthew 27:50-53 – Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. [51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; [52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, [53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

You will find a thorough verse-by-verse exposition of Daniel 9:24 to 27 in our Prophecy Archives in Prophecy Updates 55, 56, 57, and 58, but I will, in this Update, exposit on verse 27 as it relates to Christ.

Daniel 9:27 – And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

“He” is used three times. In each case it pertains to Jesus the Messiah. ”He” began to “confirm the covenant” with the “many” who would believe he was the one sent to confirm it when he was baptized in water by John, and he completed the covenant when he was crucified in his baptism by fire at Golgotha in the “midst” of Daniel’s 70th week, some three and one-half years after his water baptism. His water baptism pictured what would finish the covenant some three and one-half years later when he died, was buried, and then resurrected to complete the covenant. I am of the opinion he fulfilled the covenant during the first 1185 days of Daniel’s last week, and that the remaining 1335 days will begin when Israel actually believes it has “peace and safety.”

“He” caused “the sacrifice and oblation to cease” being acceptable to his Father when he became the true sacrifice that made void all the offerings, which had only pictured what he would do to confirm the covenant.

“He” made the Temple and its offerings spiritually desolate because of “the overspreading of abominations” he had twice cleaned out of it. The Temple had become a den of thieves

and those who ministered in it had turned into blind guides.

Matthew 23:37,38 – O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! [38] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Matthew 21:12,13 – And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, [13] And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Matthew 23:23,24 – Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. [24] Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

“He” has made the Temple and all its sacrifices “desolate, even unto the consummation” of this present age. They will not be restored until Jesus returns at his Second Advent.

Matthew 23:38,39 – Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. [39] For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

The “consummation” of this present age will end when “that determined will be poured upon the desolate” men and women of this present age of the Gentiles who are spiritually desolate, having not the Spirit of Christ. And that determined will be poured out on the antichrist, who will be in a position where no one can help him, as well as his false prophet, and both will then be cast into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. The battle of Armageddon is the consummation of this age, and the last days of the tribulation period will see Michael the Archangel deal with the forces of evil during the pouring out of the vials of wrath.

Romans 2:28,29 – For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: [29] But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Daniel 11:45 to 12:1 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. [1] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Matthew 24:21 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Revelation 19:19,20 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Daniel 7:11 – I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

Daniel’s 70 weeks of years clock stopped ticking when Jesus the Messiah was cut off in the “midst” of the last week. The Hebrew word “midst” in a seven year week could mean any time between the end of the third

year and the beginning of the fifth year, in other words, at any time during the fourth year. I believe Jesus fulfilled the first 1185 days of the 2520 days in Daniel’s 70th week, and only 1335 days remain.

When the Israelis actually believe they have “peace and safety” enough to actually “say” it, then the clock will start to tick again, and they will thereafter be attacked some 1260 days before the final battle of Armageddon.

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Revelation 11:2 – But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Revelation 13:5 – And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

I was astounded to discover how much of our prophetic teaching about the antichrist’s reign, the tribulation period, the time of the rapture, and a multiplicity of all things related to prophecy, are all tied primarily to the interpretation that the “he” of Daniel is the antichrist. I have made my choice – I believe the majority of the prophetic teachers before 1800 were correct – I believe the “he” is Jesus. This has been a hard choice for me to make – what a difference a “he” makes!

One really does not have to go back before 1740 to find the teaching that the HE’s in Daniel 9:27 represent Christ. Here are just a few of many authors published after 1827 who were not swayed by the new teaching of the HE’s representing a future antichrist.

Have you ever gone back and checked to see what was taught before 1740? Did God choose not to reveal the truth about Daniel 9:27 until after 1740? Did he choose the Great Evangelical Movement as the time to reveal the truth about Daniel 9:27? Did he wait to popularize the truth of the Pre-Trib Rapture by John Darby in 1827? Did he wait to spread the Pre-Trib position across the country and world by Scofield in 1909? Certainly, the answer to all these questions is an individual matter between you and God. I have to stand before the judgment seat of Christ to answer for everything I have taught, so I persuade men of what I believe about the Second Coming of His Son. I would be a spiritual fool to do otherwise.

II Corinthians 5:10,11 – For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. [11] Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Colossians 3:23-25 – And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; [24] Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. [25] But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

I do not question your motives in what you teach or why you teach it, that is a very personal matter between you and God, and something you alone are capable of doing. I only know it is something God wants all of his children to do.

I hope my motive for presenting this series is made manifest in your consciences.

There will be no peace with the Palestinians

In the coming years no moderate Palestinian leader will have the required legitimacy to make the historic 1948 deal with Israel in exchange for 1967.

There will be no peace with the Palestinians. Not this year, not this decade, perhaps not this generation. Even if Ehud Olmert becomes prime minister again, there will be no peace with the Palestinians. Even if Tzipi Livni resumes the negotiations with Ahmed Qureia, there will be no peace with the Palestinians. Even if Yossi Beilin goes to Geneva and shuts himself up with Mahmoud Abbas on the lakeshore,

there will be no peace with the Palestinians.

In the coming years the Palestinians will not compromise on the right of return. They will not recognize the Jewish national state. They will not turn their back on Hamas. Even before the Arab Spring there was not much chance for a long-lasting peace with the Palestinians. But because of the Arab Spring even that flimsy chance has been lost.

The democratization in the Arab world is wonderful, but it has killed the peace. In the coming years no moderate Palestinian leader will have the required legitimacy to make the historic ’48 deal with Israel in exchange for ’67. In the coming years no moderate Palestinian leader who will be able to face the refugees and persuade them to give up their homes and villages. No Palestinian Anwar Sadat will rise in the foreseeable future and there will be no Israeli-Palestinian peace.

So the really important question is different – will there be peace with the world?

Ehud Barak has many defects. But by going to Camp David in 2000 Barak made certain the world would stand beside Israel in the second intifada. Ehud Olmert also has some defects. But by going to Annapolis in 2008 Olmert made certain the world would stand beside Israel in Operation Cast Lead.

Both Barak and Olmert proved to the world in acts that the conflict is not about the settlements but about survival. Both Barak and Olmert proved to the world Israel is not

an occupying power but a democratic Jewish state that wants to end the occupation.

Both these unpopular men served Israel not by acting to achieve peace with the Palestinians, but by achieving peace with the world. Thanks to them, when Israel had to exercise force it had the right and the ability to do so. Thus Israel defeated Yasser Arafat and deterred Hamas. Thus Israel gained years of quiet, prosperity and growing strength.

But there’s another question, no less important – will there be peace with ourselves?

Camp David 2000 made the Zionist left stand behind Operation Defensive Shield in the spring of 2002. Annapolis 2008 kept the Zionist left from castigating Operation Cast Lead at the beginning of 2009. Barak and Olmert’s far-reaching moves failed vis-a-vis the Palestinians, but succeeded vis-a-vis the Israelis. They healed a torn, divided people. They restored an overall sense of vindication.

They created an inner Israeli peace.

The willingness in the last decade to divide the country has united the nation. It created a certain ideological harmony that enabled us to stand together in the face of difficult external challenges. It united society and strengthened the state. Camp David and Annapolis did not given us peace with our neighbors, but they brought us peace with ourselves.

There is a high risk of war breaking out in the autumn. We all hope it will be merely a diplomatic war. But it is important to prepare for the possibility that sooner or later the diplomatic struggle will take on a popular or military dimension. It will be harder than in Operation Cast Lead. It could be as hard as in the first or second intifada. But the situation will be worse because this time we will be going to battle without international backing and without Israeli unity. Without peace with the world and without peace with ourselves.

Unlike Barak and Olmert, Benjamin Netanyahu has not prepared the ground for the expected campaign. He has not taken the diplomatic move required to ensure victory. It is not peace with the Palestinians that Netanyahu is losing.

Netanyahu is losing the Israelis’ next war.

The great slaughter of the Sunnis by Hafez Al-Assad in 1982 occurred at Hama, which is Biblical Hamath, which will be the northern extent of the prophesied land grant given to Abraham by God.

The southern extent will be Kadesh.

The western extent will be the Mediterranean Sea coasts of Israel and Lebanon. The eastern extent will be the Euphrates River.

Genesis 15:18 – In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

Ezekiel 47:17 – And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

Ezekiel 47:19 – And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.

A city of western Syria south-southwest of Aleppo. Settled probably in the Bronze Age, it was a Hittite center in the second millennium B.C. and is frequently mentioned in the Bible as Hamath. Population: 348,000.

Kadesh or Kadish (From Wikipedia)

Kadesh or Qadhesh in Classical Hebrew, also

known as Qadesh-Barnea, was a place in the south of Ancient Israel. The name “Kodesh” means holy. The name “Barnea” may mean desert of wandering.

There are two Kadeshes: one in the north Negev, visited by Abraham and by Moses and the children of Israel two years after leaving Egypt; and the other, on the eastern border by Petra in Transjordan.

The western Kadesh was an important site in Israelite history.

Miriam, the sister of Moses, died there (Nu. 20:1), and Moses disobediently struck the rock that brought forth water at this location (Nu. 20:11). [This is the western Kadesh.]

Numbers 20:1 – Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

The Hama massacre occurred in February 1982, when the Syrian army, under the orders of the president of Syria Hafez al-Assad, conducted a scorched earth policy against the town of Hama in order to quell a revolt by the Sunni Muslim community against the regime of al-Assad. The Hama massacre, personally conducted by president Assad’s younger brother, Rifaat al-Assad, effectively ended the campaign begun in 1976 by Sunni Islamic groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood, against Assad’s regime, whose leaders were disproportionately from president Assad’s own Alawite sect.

Initial diplomatic reports from western countries stated that only 1000 were killed. Subsequent estimates vary, with the lower estimates claiming that at least 10,000 Syrian citizens were killed, the majority civilians, while others put the number at 20,000 (Robert Fisk), or 40,000 (Syrian Human Rights Committee). According to Syrian media, anti-government rebels initiated the fighting, who “pounced on our comrades while sleeping in their homes and killed whomever they could kill of women and children, mutilating the bodies of the martyrs in the streets, driven, like mad dogs, by their black hatred.” Security forces then “rose to confront these crimes” and “taught the murderers a lesson that has snuffed out their breath”

Report: Syrian army killed own troops who shot civilians

A defector from the Syrian army said that his forces were responsible for the deaths of a number of soldiers whom the government had claimed were killed at the hands of armed rebels, Al-Arabiya reported Friday.

According to the defector, he ordered the soldiers’ deaths after he saw firing on unarmed civilians in Jisr Al-Shaghur. He said soldiers were repeatedly warned against firing on unarmed residents of the village, but would not listen.

The military source told Al-Arabia that up to 90% of the village was evacuated, but that the remaining women and children were used as human shields.

AMMAN – Syrian helicopter gunships fired machine guns to disperse a large pro-democracy protest in the town of Maarat al-Numaan on Friday, witnesses said, a dangerous escalation of force at the end of a day in which 32 civilians were reported killed by Assad’s forces across the country.

The gunship use was the first reported use of air power to quell protests in Syria’s uprising.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that helicopters fired at the town after security forces on the ground killed five protesters, but said no killings were reported in the assault by the helicopters.

Also on Friday, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky confirmed a report by Kuwait news agency KUNA that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had been trying to call Assad on Thursday but was told that the president was “not available.”

He added that Ban had been trying to speak with Assad all week but was unable to get through to him.

AP reported at least 32 protesters shot dead at rallies after Friday prayers.

Thousands of civilians have fled the violence into Turkey, fearing security forces’ revenge for incidents in which 120 troops were reported killed this week.

But protesters, refugees in Turkey and rights activists said some soldiers in the northwest had refused to shoot at protesters and fighting had broken out between loyalist and mutinous forces this week.

“Whether Assad still has the legitimacy to govern his own country, I think is a question everyone needs to consider,” said US Defense Secretary Robert Gates

said on Friday.

Britain, France, Germany and Portugal have asked the UN Security Council to condemn Assad, although veto-wielding Russia has said it would oppose such a move as counter-productive.

World powers have shown no appetite for any Libya-style military intervention in Syria because it sits on a major fault line of Middle East conflict, allied with Iran against nearby Israel. The Syrian leadership has shrugged off mild punitive sanctions imposed so far, and verbal reprimands from abroad.

Assad, 45, has promised reforms, even while cracking down on unrest posing the gravest threat to his 11 years of iron rule.

Moscow readies veto power as UN rebukes Syria for violent crackdown on protesters as well as covert atomic work; China also protests UN move.

As the UN Security Council resolution readied two separate rebukes on Syria on Thursday, Russia stepped up its threat to veto both a Western-backed draft condemning the country’s crackdown on protesters as well as a push to report Syria for covert atomic work.

“Russia is against any UN Security Council resolution on Syria,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told journalists at a briefing in Moscow.

The comments come as Turkish officials said on Thursday that more than 1,700 Syrians have fled to Turkey to escape the Syrian army crackdown, in another sign that Assad’s struggle with protesters is disturbing Syria’s neighbors.

However, Lukashevich said that “We do not believe the Syrian issue is a subject for consideration by the Security Council, let alone the adoption of some kind of resolution.”

Britain, France, Germany and Portugal have floated a new draft resolution condemning Syria as the United States and its allies seek to raise the pressure on President Bashar Assad’s government to end its violent crackdown on protesters.

Lukashevich stopped short of saying Russia would use its veto power as a permanent UN Security Council member to doom any Syria resolution if it comes to a vote.

Some diplomats have said they thought Moscow could be persuaded to abstain, as it did in a March vote on the resolution that authorized military intervention in Libya.

But Lukashevich said that even a discussion in the Security Council could increase tension in Syria, and that any resolution criticizing Damascus would amount to tacit support of “armed extremists” opposing the government.

“This does not fit the role of the United Nations,” he said.

China was expected to join Russia in voting against a draft resolution at the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency rebuking the Arab state for three years of stonewalling of a probe into a site

bombed by Israel in 2007.

Also Thursday, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin met with outgoing Russian Ambassador to Israel Petr Stegniy, hoping to convince the government in Moscow not to veto the upcoming UN Security Council resolution aimed at Syria’s covert nuclear program.

“Syria’s actions are completely contrary to the values of the free world,” Rivlin said. “Not everything is political. This matter is of common interest to all parties involved. It is a shared interest of every state in the free world.”

US intelligence reports have said Dair Alzour was a nascent, North Korean-designed reactor intended to produce plutonium for atomic bombs before it was bombed to rubble. Syria denies the charge.

The IAEA, the Vienna-based UN atomic agency, gave independent backing to the US allegation in a report last month which said it was “very likely” to have been a reactor.

Western diplomats said they believed they still had enough support for the IAEA board to adopt the text, which would require a simple majority.

Palestinian Authority Presidential Advisor: The Refugees Are the New ‘Palestinian Nuclear Weapon’

In a May 23, 2011 article published by the Palestinian Authority news agency Wafa, Sabri Saidam, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s advisor for information technology and vocational training and Fatah Revolutionary Council deputy secretary-general, said that the marches on Israel’s borders on “Nakba Day” had revealed the new “Palestinian nuclear weapon.” This weapon, he said, was the brave young people loyal to their ancestral homeland who do not fear risking their lives to actualize their rights to a state,

freedom, and independence – a weapon he described as more powerful than Israel’s entire arsenal.

Following are excerpts from the article:[1]

“The glorious day has arrived, [the day] that some feared and others ignored, while the rest prepared themselves at the last minute. The Palestinians have begun moving their new, quality ‘nuclear weapon’ across the borders – while the massive arsenal of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, cluster and phosphorous [bombs], and the entire spectrum of WMDs rests in Israel’s storage facilities, nuclear reactors, and laboratories.

[The arsenal was] paralyzed by the footfall of a Palestinian youth who advanced via the border, risking his life, to reach the birthplace of his parents, grandparents, and noble Jaffa family – while his comrades encountered [live] fire at the border.

“This new Palestinian ‘nuclear weapon’ is based on a large nucleus of loyalty to the motherland – a nucleus of courage and of yearning, and of distress due to the occupation.

Together with this is a nucleus of courage, that disregards the minefields, the barbed-wire fences, the [tear] gas grenades, the [various] types of munitions, and the [various] types of obstinacy reflected in every speech delivered so generously before humanity by the occupation government.

“The new Palestinian ‘nuclear weapon’ demolishes the theory [that the Palestinian refugees will] forget [their yearning for the homeland], on which the Hebrew state has relied.

It destroys the possibility of intimidating the millions of Palestinian refugees. It shatters the aspirations of the generals of our time, who aim to eliminate the affiliation of the Palestinian grandchild [with the homeland] – the grandchild who is charged with yearning for the land of his forefathers, [so much so] that he is willing to gamble with his life in an attempt to attain his plundered right – his right to a state, to freedom, and to independence.

“The internal battles within the occupation army will surely be endless, after its haggard appearance was revealed on that day. Perhaps those battles will be fought in total secrecy, with a few officers removed from their posts.

Perhaps [the Israeli army] will reassess its plans in order to deal with this possible new test [that has become apparent] since the Nakba Day [dress rehearsal].

“[This] article of mine contains a great [call] to those in the Occupation state [Israel] who want to see and to hear that this impulse of self-sacrifice among the new generation of Nakba grandchildren has great significance – namely, that this generation is not afraid to storm [the borders] and die, and therefore will not relinquish its right, no matter how long the fence, how extensive the settlements, or how great the plunder of the land. Thus, it will never tire, and will never agree to anything but liberation and the disappearance of the occupation.

“In light of this, the threatening speeches and the denial of rights will be to no avail. What will avail is submission to the fact that those who want to live in security must give the people back their rights, their plundered land, and their stolen lives – particularly because, as they say in English, high fences do not necessarily make good neighbors.

“Perhaps those who are listening in the Occupation state – particularly those who express solidarity with our people every week in the heroic places and villages of the separation fence – must be told today: It is your job to tell your politicians what they don’t like to hear, namely that all your country’s weapons, and the language of obstinacy and tyranny, will not [subdue us] – and neither will pressure on world leaders or [the attempt] to compel them to change their statements and positions… None of these actions [by Israel] will create a world that favors occupation and humiliation.

“The new Palestinian nuclear weapon is the refugees outside and inside the homeland – [who seek] a just peace but who will not turn to it until the occupation is gone – as well as others whom the occupation has made miserable, whose hopes and dreams are hobbled by the occupation, and who have been filled with the stories of the homeland [told them by their] grandmothers and grandfathers.
“Which is the more effective weapon – that of man, or that of fire?”

Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 6 – The Gray Thickens

Zechariah 14:6 – And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:

As I indicated in Chapter 1 of this series, due to requests for copies of my first book, which I allowed to go out of print, I decided to reprint it, making any changes necessary to update it after 27 years have past. I updated Chapter 4, “The Blue Turns to Gray” in a previous Prophecy Update. Much of Chapter 6 deals with the same phenomena in Chapter 4, because when I wrote “Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit,” I combined the two into a single chapter. The Birth Pang Figures in our Archives that deal with Chapter 4 are Numbers 10 to 14, while those dealing with Chapter 6 are numbers 14 to 16.

Modern man in his running “to and fro” has discovered the strange qualities of sunlight. We now know that in some ways sunlight behaves like waves, and at other times it behaves as though its composition is a maze of particles. Man has discovered several laws of light. Two in which I am particularly interested are the law of diffuse and regular reflection of light, and the law of the refraction of light. All laws in the world of science are of God. They are like the one who made them in his natural creation, in that they do not change, and are consistent in producing the same results. It is not the purpose of the author to teach physics to the reader, so I will refrain from a technical discussion of the two laws, but will refer those interested to a general physics text. The reason “the light will not be clear, nor dark,” is that the earth’s upper atmosphere (the stratosphere) will be filled with a cloud of suspended, microscopic, volcanic particles. The incoming light from the sun, by a process of diffuse reflection, scattering, and refraction, while passing through the cloud shield, will be dimmed such it will not be “bright as day” on earth’s surface, nor will it be “dark as pitch.” It is the perfect picture of how much light would be reaching the earth’s surface if its stratosphere had been filled with a volcanic cloud of smoke particles. It is precisely what light is like on a cloudy day anywhere, but this will be a cloud covering all the earth, and it will simply be a cloudy day at every point on

the surface of the planet. To a Hebrew, like Zechariah, “clear” light was the light that came down on him unrestricted by clouds, while “dark” w as the tot

al absence of light as on a starless night. It will not be totally dark or totally bright anywhere on earth. There is no better way to put it, a cloudy day is one in which the sunlight is restricted in its full glow on earth’s surface but, on the other hand, it is not pitch dark, and there is some light (See Birth Pang Figure 14).

Zechariah 14:7 – But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

A most unusual phenomenon: light at night from the sun! When will it occur? The answer is found in verses 4 and 5, which describe the cleavage of the Mount of Olives, a definite occurrence of the latter portion of the Tribulation Period. In the latter part of the Tribulation Period the great cloud shroud of figure 14 will have established itself around the entire earth above the tropopause. It is this great cloud shroud that will fulfill the prophecies of verses 6 and 7. Verse 6 states that the light will not be clear nor dark.

To a Hebrew, clear light was unobstructed light, a light that came from its source to fall on an object with few, if any, obstructions along its path. A Hebrew viewed darkness as the absence of light. So we are advised that there will be some light (it will not be pitch dark), but the light will not be clear light (it will be partially obstructed). This is a perfect description of what we call a cloudy day. On days when the skies are overcast we do have light, but it is not clear light, for the clouds obstruct our view of the sun. The light on a cloudy day always reaches us by a process that involves reflection, refraction, and scattering of the light from the sun. During the latter portion of the Tribulation Period man will not see the sun.

But limited light, of varying degrees, will penetrate the great cloud shield in the stratosphere. It will be a very dull, gray, depressing light in which the inhabitants of the earth are struggling for survival.

But how can it come to pass “that at evening time it shall be light?” How is it possible that, at every location on the face of the earth, there will be some light during the evening hours when normally it is pitch dark?

About 20 years ago, after presenting a lecture series in California for Dr. Reed, I departed the Los Angeles area by jet to Dallas, flying at an altitude just below 40 thousand feet. It was a beautiful day from the surface to the top of the atmosphere along the entire flight path, with clear skies above and below the aircraft. As we crossed Arizona and New Mexico the light from the sun beamed upon the ground below us, and through the air above us. When we crossed into Texas there were no clouds below or above us, and the sun was beaming on the aircraft with its full brilliance, but as I looked toward the earth’s surface I begin to notice tiny pinpoints of light on the ground. People had turned on the lights below us because it was dark at ground level. The curvature of the earth had already blocked off the surface rays of the sun at ground level across Texas, but at our flight level and above it was broad daylight.

If there had been a way for me to take the light at high levels and direct it downward, it would have produced

light on the surface below, where darkness had enshrouded Texas. It is not by accident that the God of light, who is Light, has very conveniently established a law in nature where this is predictably possible – The law of refraction.

Laws are not theories. They are like God because they are made by God. They are consistent and can always be counted to act in a predictable, unchanging manner. It is not my purpose to teach physics, so I will refrain from a technical discussion of the law itself, and will rather refer those interested in such a dissertation to any general physics textbook. Refraction occurs because light waves travel at different speeds through

different substances. Refraction involves the bending of light waves as they move from one medium to another. In figure 15 you can see the bending effect on light as it passes from a less dense medium (air) into a denser medium (water). If you want to see this bending of light in action, drop a pencil and a coin into a glass about three-fourths full of water. The pencil will appear to be broken at the water surface, and the coin will appear to be on the side of the glass. This is a phenomenon produced by refraction.

Why is it that we still have light long after the sun has disappeared over the horizon? And why do we have light in the morning before the sun comes into view? You guessed it! It is the law of refraction at work. As the sun’s rays travel through space, they move very rapidly, as if in a vacuum, but when contact is made with the more dense atmospheric medium of the earth, the light decelerates, and is bend around the curvature of the earth by the law of refraction. This law causes the light to reach

the surface before the sun appears in the morning, and to trail behind on the surface long after the early evening sun disappears.

The great cloud of volcanic smoke will be firmly established as shown in figure 14 by the time the battle of Armageddon occurs. This great encompassing shroud will vertically be thousands of feet thick and, as such, a very dense medium through which the sun’s rays must filter on their way to the earth’s surface. As the rays filter through by refraction and scattering, they will be severely bent around the curvature of the earth’s surface. As you may observe in figure 16, the small island, on the opposite side of the earth from the sun, would normally be experiencing an evening of complete darkness. However, because of the refraction and scattering of sunshine through the great volcanic cloud, light would be bent around the earth to strike the island, and “it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.” Such would be the case at every location on the surface of the earth. The intensity of the light at any given point would be affected by the distance it had to

be refracted, and by the thickness of cloud through which it had to pass. No spot on the earth would receive clear light (unobstructed), and no spot on the earth would ever be dark (lightless).

A volcano dormant for decades erupted in south-central Chile today, belching an ash cloud more than 10 km high that blew over the Andes and carpeted a popular ski resort in neighboring Argentina.

Fanned by winds, ash darkened the sky in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, a government official there said, adding the city’s airport had been closed.

The eruption in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcanic chain, about 920 km south of the capital, Santiago, in Patagonia also prompted Chilean authorities to shut a heavily traveled border crossing into Argentina.

Chile’s government said it was evacuating 3500 people from the surrounding area as a precaution. Officials said the volcano was spitting molten rock, but there was no visible lava flow.

It was not immediately clear which of the chain’ s four volcanoe

s had erupted because of ash cover and weather conditions. The chain last saw a major eruption in 1960. Local media said the smell of sulfur hung in the air and there was constant seismic activity.

“The Cordon Caulle (volcanic range) has entered an eruptive process, with an explosion resulting in a 10-kilometre-high gas column,” Chilean state emergency office ONEMI said.

It was the latest in a series of volcanic eruptions in Chile in recent years. Chile’s Chaiten volcano erupted spectacularly in 2008 for the first time in thousands of years, spewing molten rock and a vast cloud of ash that reached the stratosphere. The ash also swelled a nearby river and ravaged a nearby town of the same name.

‘We’re not going outside’

In Bariloche, about 100 km from the newly erupting volcanic chain and also coated in ash by Chaiten’s eruption, authorities told residents to wear masks, stay inside and avoid driving because of poor visibility.

“We’re in a state of alert here, we’re not going outside,” said Marcelo Ambrosi, a Bariloche resident.

“We saw everything was covered in white, and that it was not snow,” he added. “It’s a bit uncomfortable breathing-wise, like you’re breathing in smoke.”

Argentina sent troops to the area to give out water filters and help with transportation in the area.

Chile’s chain of about 2000 volcanoes is the world’s second largest after Indonesia. Some 50 to 60 are on record as having erupted, and 500 are potentially active.
