Op-ed: Israel must prepare for continued global decline of its greatest ally, the United States

The result of the UN Security Council vote on condemning Jewish settlements in the occupied territories highlights the diplomatic weakness of our patron, the United States.

The veto right used by the US in order to curb the Palestinian demand is part of the loot taken by the winning powers following World War II. This ancient privilege does not reflect their power these days.

The justification for it is increasingly declining, and therefore soon we shall see more states joining the five permanent members of the Security Council.

India, Japan and Brazil will surely be joining – Judaism is not the basis of their culture, a wealthy, influential Jewish minority doesn’t reside there, the Holocaust does not weigh on their conscience, and Islam does not threaten their huge populations.

The votes to take place at the UN will prove America’s declining diplomatic power. Some 140 states will condemn Israel’s conduct, and it is doubtful whether even 10 countries will endorse Israel. We are relying on a sinking superpower that is abandoning its pretenses to lead the world, educate it in line with its values, punish the rogue elements and pamper those that toe the line.

This fact should make all of us lose sleep, but I’ m not calling for deeper despair, but rather, for intense thinking.

What should a small state do when it understands that it will no longer enjoy the almost unqualified support of its most important ally, possibly the only trusted ally by its side?

My words will be rejected based on the argument that my prediction is too grave and possibly too rash. The great America will not be dwarfed tomorrow, some will say.

One way or another, the historical trend is clear, it can be confirmed using plenty of data, and I shall do it with a piece of information that will be adopted by any fan of history: The extent of the economic effort an empire invests in defending itself, this expenditure compared to the rate of its economic growth, and its relative extent vis-à-vis the scope of its rivals’ security expenditures.

America deep in debt

The rate of defense expenditure teaches us about the challenges faced by a state. If competing powers are buying their own security at a much cheaper price, we must conclude that America doesn’t have the upper hand when it comes to the race into the future.

In 1947, two years after the end of World War II, the world owed the US so much money that it was unable to both pay it and rehabilitate following the war’s destruction. America poured huge sums of money, and the European and Japanese economies were saved. The American economy had the power to contribute huge sums while also leaping forward.

At this time, America is deep in debt, and it is doubtful whether even the grandchildren of Americans living today would be able to pay it off. This is not the result of defense expenditures, which now still constitute few percentages of the economy’s scope, but rather, it’s all about the trend. Oh, the trend…

Well, America’s defense expenditures are rising at a much higher rate than its economic growth rate.

It was doubled in the past decade and approached some $900 billion. What’s worse, while America’s relative economic strength in the world declines, its part in defense expenditures grows.

The expenditures of this superpower are almost half of what the entire world spends. China, whose economy surpassed Japan’s this month, placing her second in the world, spends some 6.6% of the total global expenditure on defense. France spends some 4.25% of the total global expenditure, and Russia some 3.5%.

Is the Arab-Israeli Conflict the Axis of Global Conflict?

The notion that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the deus ex machina of global politics – that most of the problems in the Muslim world will be easier to solve, or will solve themselves, once it is fixed – is something that has been drummed into the heads of Westerners for decades by Arab propagandists. Deal with the Palestinian issue, they say, before telling me how to reform my own decrepit and corrupt political system.

The obtuseness of these instructions is now on full view in the streets of Cairo, where a sclerotic and oppressive political order is facing an existential challenge, and the protesters who brought it down have done so for reasons having absolutely nothing to do with their Arab brethren in Gaza or the West Bank.

To fully appreciate the silliness behind linkage, ask yourself, every time a suicide bomb goes off in Karachi, Baghdad or anywhere else in the Muslim world: “Would this not have happened if the Palestinians had a state?” The Palestinians are a mere talking point for Islamists, who have far greater grievances. Will the Iranians will stop arming Hizbullah and Hamas if Israel just returns to the 1967 borders

The condition of Palestinian statelessness is a symptom of both Iran’s hegemonic ambitions and Arab rejection. Deal with these first-order problems and the Palestinians would have a state in short order.

To mistake the consequence for the cause, and to invest Palestinian statehood with monumental importance by trumpeting it as the world’s most pressing concern, is delusional.

The Muslim Brotherhood, under a different name, still managed to pull 20% in elections rigged to favor Mubarak’s party. Now the Brotherhood plans to enter candidates under its own name – and straw polls indicate it may muster up to 40% of the vote.

Like Hizbullah in Lebanon, the Muslim Brotherhood has camouflaged its strategic objectives in charitable social work, sports clubs and prayer meetings. Its disinformation arsenal contains the political equivalent of dental laughing gas, designed to elicit lightheadedness as well as warm and fuzzy feelings.

Sheik Yussuf al-Qaradawi, 84, the Muslim Brotherhood’s chief theoretician, returned to Egypt after a 50-year absence to address a million-plus crowd in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.

The hero of Egypt’s revolution, Wael Ghonim, the head of Google marketing in the Middle East whose Tweets and Facebook postings were credited with laying the groundwork for the popular uprising, was barred from the stage by Qaradawi’s bodyguards.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s official Web site says Jihad is Islam’s most important tool in a gradual takeover, beginning with the Muslim nations and moving on to restoring the caliphate over three continents for a conquest of the West.

New Zealand Earthquake Leaves Emergency Responders Overwhelmed

A massive earthquake has devastated the New Zealand city of Christchurch, toppling tall office buildings at the height of the workday and killing at least 65 people.

Fire and rescue crews said their resources were overwhelmed as they struggled to cope with large numbers of people injured and trapped in the rubble. Helicopters were used to douse some fires and a crane was called in to rescue workers from the roof of a high-rise office tower.

Prime Minister John Key, who rushed to the city from the capital, Wellington, said the death toll was liable to rise. He said, “We may be witnessing New Zealand’s darkest day.”

The 6.3-magnitude earthquake was the second in five months for the city, which came through a 7.1-magnitude quake in September without loss of life.

But seismologists said this one struck closer to the city and much closer to the surface, making it far more intense.

The earlier quake also came at 5 a.m., while most residents were safe in their beds. Tuesday’s temblor struck just before 1 p.m., when workers were in their offices or in the streets for lunch and children were making their way home from school.

Video footage showed several multi-story buildings that fell in on themselves or into the streets, including the iconic Christchurch Cathedral, whose stone spire collapsed into a city square. Dazed residents wandered along the broken sidewalks as ambulances raced through rubble-strewn streets with sirens blaring.

The city’s airport was shut down and many roads are impassible.

Mr. Key said in a television interview that crews would work through the night to find and rescue people who are trapped in the collapsed buildings. He said 350 military troops were already at work in the city and another 250 were on the way to relieve them.

The prime minister described seeing residents sitting by the side of the road with their heads in their hands and said the city of about 350,000 people is “in absolute agony.” He said offers of help have been received from the United States and Australia.

Radio New Zealand reporter Laura Davis told VOA from Auckland that search-and-rescue teams were being flown in from around the country and that the government has accepted an offer of help from neighboring Australia.

She said 70 army medical staff have been deployed to help the city’s overtaxed emergency crews and that up to 400 army troops had been sent to help seal off the most affected areas. The city’s airport was shut down and many roads are impassible.

Davis also said schools had let out shortly before the quake and that many children were walking home when it struck. She said it was not clear what had happened to them.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered five kilometers from Christchurch and at a depth of just four kilometers. Government seismologist Bill Fry told VOA that made it much more intense than the stronger quake that hit the city in September.

Fry explained that during the 10-second temblor, the ground was accelerating more rapidly “than the rate of an apple falling out of a tree.”

Earthquake Shakes Up Suez Canal as Iran Warships Approach

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook up residents at the entrance to the Suez Canal early Monday morning, 48 hours before two Iranian ships, a frigate and a supply vessel, are expected to enter the canal.

The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research reported that tremors from the 3 a.m. quake lasted for 27 minutes, but caused no damage.

The ships had originally been expected to enter the Suez today (Monday), but Egyptian officials announced the delay this morning, without explanation.

Iran inexplicably announced Sunday morning that two of its warships had crossed the Suez, a report that was thoroughly denied by Egyptian authorities. Iranian media did not mention the ships on Monday, and the false report may have been for local consumption.

No Iranian ship has been allowed to pass through the Suez Canal since Iran’s 1979 overthrow of the Shah and Egypt’s signing of a peace treaty with Israel the same year.

Egypt’s agreeing to allow Iranian ships to pass through the Suez is seen by many analysts as a signal that the new regime in Egypt is leaning towards ties with Iran, but Suez Canal officials have pointed out that an international convention requires it allow passage to all ships.Egypt has reportedly agreed to allow the Iranian boats to pass through the canal en route to Syria. The Obama administration is concerned about “what’s the cargo on board, where is it going, to whom, for what benefit,” U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters. Iran has said that the ships are headed for Syria for training, Crowley commented, as laughter was heard in the audience: “My initial response to that would be that we’re highly skeptical of that claim.”

President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu have accused Iran of trying to exploit the crisis in Egypt to increase its influence in the Middle East.

“Iran wants to say to the world, to the United States, Israel and other countries in the Mideast that it has reached not only areas close to it but also farther away, including in the Mediterranean,” Ephraim Kam of the Institute for National Security Studies in Israel told the Associated Press.

The Iranian maritime maneuver also signals it is prepared to protect the Hamas and Hizbullah terrorist organizations on Israel’s southern and northern borders.

Iran officials last month announced that its ships would be sailing through the Suez to gather intelligence, but analysts stress that the Islamic Republic’s ultimate goal is to establish Shi’ite dominance in the Muslim world, far beyond Lebanon and Syria.

In Isaiah’s day the “tongue of the Egyptian Sea” is what we identify as the Gulf of Suez, a northern extension of the Red Sea that slithers between Egypt and Sinai like a long wet tongue. Since Isaiah’s writings man has dug out a northern extension of the “Egyptian Sea” to link the Mediterranean and Red Seas together.

This extension is known as the Suez Canal. The two words “utterly destroy” come from “charam,” which means “to be cut off” or “to shut up.” We are advised by God, through the prophet Isaiah, that He intends to completely shut-up the waters of what we identify today as the Suez Canal. He will do so by crushing the western and eastern banks together by movement of two tectonic plates.

In Birth Pang Number 18, Chapter 20, the division of the Mount of Olives into two remaining halves was described, with one half being carried northward on the extreme southern edge of a newly created Gaza Plate, while the other half drifted south on the northern tip of a newly formed Sinai Plate (See Figure 33). In Figure 34 you may observe the consequences of the movement of the Sinai Plate as it floats southward on an underground liquid sea of magma.

As the southward drift occurs, the Sinai Plate will be jammed against the massive African Plate. Dry land will crunch against dry land, and the “tongue of the Egyptian Sea” will be “completely shut-up.” It will be possible to walk across this area on dry land throughout the millennial reign of Christ.

When the expression “the river” is used in Hebrew, if there is no context above or below to identify it specifically, always means the Euphrates River. The term “the river,” found above in verse fifteen, is “hannahar,” and it applies to the Euphrates River. When it states that the Euphrates should be smitten “in the seven streams,” the Hebrew construction does not mean that it already existed as seven streams, and that God smites all seven. Instead, it states that God shall smite a single river and, when he has performed that action, it will have divided it into seven streams. That single river is none other than the massive Euphrates River. This drying up of the great Euphrates is also echoed by John in Revelation.

Revelation 16:12 – And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

We are advised in verse sixteen that the drying up of the great Euphrates creates a dry highway, a highway for the millennial return of Israelite tribulation survivors from lands east of the Euphrates. The latter portion of this verse also indicates that the dry highway will extend into Egypt. The “Israel” of verse sixteen represents the descendants of the man Jacob, hence the personal pronoun “he” is used, even though it refers to the entire nation that came forth from him through his twelve sons. When the nation of Israel “came up out of the land of Egypt,” God parted the waters of the extreme northern extension of the Red Sea, the extension that Isaiah identified as “the tongue of the Egyptian Sea” in 700 B.C., but which is identified as the Gulf of Suez today.

On the day Israel crossed the “yam cuwph” extension of the Red Sea, while fleeing from the Egyptian Pharaoh, it could be said that God created a highway of dry land from Egypt to Assyria. But God closed his dry land bridge to destroy the Pharaoh’s mighty army with a flood of closing walls of water, however, the dry land bridge he describes in Isaiah will last a thousand years.

Because of the drying up of the Euphrates, and the shutting up of the Suez Canal, it will be possible to walk all the way from Egypt to Assyria without passing through waters that cannot be waded in sandals. When God jams the Sinai Peninsula against the extreme northeastern tip of Africa, a sea-free highway will be created, a highway that will last for a thousand years. Two great continents, the African and the Eurasian, will be fused together by God. Throughout the millennial reign of Christ the many nations of these massive continents will move up and down this dry land bridge to worship Christ in Jerusalem, the new capital of the world. The commerce

of Africa will flow through Israel to Eurasia, and the products of Eurasia will flow through to Africa. Israel will sit at the crossroads of the world’s land and sea commerce. She will be the center of the world. God will destroy those who came against Jerusalem during the Tribulation Period. And the city of Jerusalem will be the place where all the nations of the world come up to worship the King of kings, Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel.

Zechariah 14:2,3,16 — For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. [3] Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

[16] And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Luke 1:30-33 — And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. [31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

[32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: [33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

CAIRO — A doctor in the Libyan city of Benghazi said Sunday that his hospital has seen the bodies of at least 200 protesters killed by Moammar Gadhafi’s forces over the last few days.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he fears reprisal.

Benghazi has been a center of a six-day revolt by Libyans inspired by uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia and frustrated by Gadhafi’s more than 40 years of authoritarian rule.

The doctor said the hospital, one of two in Libya’s second-largest city, is out of supplies and cannot treat more than 70 wounded who were hit in the attacks and need attention.

“I am crying,” the doctor said. “Why is the world not listening?”

Getting concrete details about the protests in Libya has been difficult because journalists cannot work freely inside the country. Information about the uprising has come through telephone interviews, along with videos and messages posted online, and through opposition activists in exile.

The US-based Arbor Networks reported another Internet service outage in Libya just before midnight Saturday night. The company said online traffic ceased in Libya about 2 a.m. Saturday, was restored at reduced levels several hours later, only to be cut off again that night.

People in Libya also said they can no longer make telephone calls on their land lines.

According to several accounts, police in Benghazi initially followed orders Saturday to act against the protesters, but later joined with them because they belong to the same tribe and saw foreign mercenaries taking part in the killings.

“People are defiant here and they are ready to die,” said a woman on the phone from Benghazi. She spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, as did other witnesses.

CAIRO — The son of longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi warned in a nationally televised address that continued anti-government protests that have wracked Libya for six days might lead to a civil war that could send the country’s oil wells up in flames.

Appearing on Libyan state television after midnight Sunday, Seif al-Islam Gadhafi said the army still backed his father, who was leading the fight, although he added that some military bases, tanks and weapons had been seized.

“We are not Tunisia and Egypt,” the younger Gadhafi said, referring to the successful uprisings that toppled longtime regimes in Libya’s neighbors.

Human Rights Watch put the number at 174 through Saturday, and doctors in the eastern city of Benghazi said more than 200 have died since the protests began.

The younger Gadhafi offered to put forward reforms within days that he described as a “historic national initiative” and said the regime was willing to remove some restrictions and begin discussions for a constitution. He offered to ch ange

Earlier on Sunday, security forces loyal to Gadhafi unleashed heavy gunfire on thousands marching in a rebellious eastern city, cutting down mourners trying to bury victims in a bloody cycle of violence that has killed more than 200 people in the fiercest crackdown on the uprisings in the Arab world.

Protests were even reported to have spread to downtown Tripoli and a coastal city only about 45 miles (about 70 kilometers) to the west of the capital. In Benghazi, site of the funeral clashes, pro-Gadhafi forces were chased from a presidential compound by other troops sympathetic to the anti-government demonstrators, a witness said.

Western countries expressed concern at the rising violence against demonstrators in oil-rich Libya, which is sandwiched between friendly neighbors Egypt and Tunisia — where long-serving leaders were successfully toppled in recent weeks. British Foreign Secretary William Hague said hIn the first-known defection from Gadhafi’s regime, Libya’s representative to the Arab League said he resigned his post to protest his government’s decision to fire on defiant demonstrators in the second-largest city of Benghazi.

Also, a major tribe in Libya was reported to have turned against Gadhafi.

Eyewitness reports trickling out of the isolated country where the Internet has been largely shut down and journalists cannot work freely suggested that protesters were fighting back more forcefully against the Middle East’s longest-serving leader.

Libya’s rebellion by those frustrated with Gadhafi’s more than 40 years of authoritarian rule has spread to more than a half-dozen eastern cities.

In Tripoli, a Gadhafi stronghold, there have been few reports of protests said to have been quickly put down.

Secret police were heavily deployed on the streets of the city of 2 million.

On Sunday, however, armed security forces were seen on rooftops surrounding central Green Square, a witness said by telephone, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. The witness added that a group of about 200 lawyers and judges were protesting inside a Tripoli courthouse, which was also surrounded by security forces.

An exiled opposition leader in Cairo said hundreds of protesters were near the Bab al-Aziziya military camp where Gadhafi lives on the outskirts of Tripoli.

Faiz Jibril said his contacts inside Libya were also reporting that hundreds of protesters had gathered in another downtown plaza, Martyrs Square.

Libyan state TV showed Gadhafi in Tripoli being cheered by supporters, including tribesmen and women chanting “God, Moammar and Libya — that is all.”

In another key blow to Gadhafi, the Warfla tribe — the largest in Libya, has announced it is joining the protests, said Switzerland-based Libyan exile Fathi al-Warfali. Although it had longstanding animosity toward the Libyan leader, it had been neutral for most of the past two decades.

Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said the Obama administration was “very concerned” about reports that Libyan security forces had fired on peaceful protesters in the eastern city of Benghazi.

“We’ve condemned that violence,” Rice told “Meet the Press” on NBC. “Our view is that in Libya as throughout the region peaceful protests need to be respected.”

The Arab League said it was following with great concern the demonstrations in Arab countries and called for “the immediate halt of all acts of violence and to refrain from using force against the peaceful demonstrations.”

In Cairo, Libya’s Arab League representative Abdel-Monem al-Houni said he told the Foreign Ministry in Tripoli that he had “resigned from all his duties and joined the popular revolution.”

“As a Libyan citizen, I absolutely cannot be quiet about these crimes,” he said, adding that he had renounced all links to the regime because of “my complete devotion to my people.”

Al-Houni was part of the group that carried out the coup in 1969 that brought Gadhafi to power. He later fell out with the Libyan leader, but they reconciled in 2000. Gadhafi then named him to the Arab League post. He told Gadhafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, that the country must embark on “dialogue and implement reforms,” the Foreign Office said.

Seven Heads on the Beast in Revelation 13 & 17 – Part 4

The Rev 13 Beast Head 7 Died but Returns to Life as the Rev 17 Beast Head

We concluded the exposition of Revelation 13:3 in Part 2. We will now continue with Revelation 13:4.

Daniel and Ezekiel did not prophesy of the first two heads of the Revelation 13 & 17 seven headed beast, because the first (Egypt) had already afflicted Israel, and the second (Assyria) had already carried the Northern Kingdom to the east of the Tigris River. Micah and Isaiah wrote some 100 years before Daniel and they wrote about the Assyrian Invasion because it was both future and present in their days. None of the four prophets prophesied of the Egyptian Empire bondage because it happened before they were born.

The seven heads on the beast represent 8 heads, but the last two are counted as one, because both heads have an Islamic Caliph (King) and are Islamic Caliphates (Kingdoms).

Mountains are at times used to refer to great governments or kingdoms in the Bible, such as in Isaiah when it refers to Christ’s Kingdom being established as the top Kingdom among the other nations, represented as lower mountains or little hills.

The SEVEN HEADS represent seven great mountains (governments or kingdoms) that have been composite parts in the development of the final great Revelation beast kingdom of antichrist. These seven kingdoms of man have historically given their mammon contributions of knowledge, culture, and scientific advancements, as they have afflicted and affected Israel since God called her out of Egypt.

The First Head in Part 1 was the Egyptian Kingdom

The Second Head in Part 2 was the Assyrian Kingdom

The Third Head in Part 3 was the Babylonian Kingdom

The Fourth Head in Part 4 was the Medo-Persian Kingdom

The seven heads of the beast represent seven evil empires that that have, and or will, persecute the nation of Israel. They are, from the first to the seventh – Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman, and Omayyad Islamic, followed by the soon coming eighth empire of the antichrist which is the wounded head on the Revelation 13 beast, representing the resurrected beast that replaced the Roman Empire, but died as the Ottoman Islamic Caliphate in the 15th century.

[15] The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

The Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550–330 BCE), also known as the Persian Empire, was the successor state of the Median Empire, ruling over significant portions of what would become Greater Iran.

The Persian and the Median Empire taken together are also known as the Medo-Persian Empire, which encompassed the combined territories of several earlier empires.

The Persian Empire was the largest empire by geographical extent in ancient times; at the height of its power, the empire encompassed approximately 8 million km.

The empire was forged by Cyrus the Great, and spanned three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe.

At its greatest extent, the empire included the modern territories of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, parts of Central Asia, Asia Minor, Thrace and Macedonia, much of the Black Sea coastal regions, Iraq, northern Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and all significant population centers of ancient Egypt as far west as Libya.

It is noted in western history as the foe of the Greek city states during the Greco-Persian Wars, for emancipation of slaves including the Jews from their Babylonian captivity, and for instituting the usage of official languages throughout its territories. The empire had a centralised, bureaucratic administration under the Emperor and a permanent large army and civil service, inspiring similar developments in later empires.

The Achaemenid Persian empire was invaded by Alexander III of Macedon, after which it collapsed and disintegrated in 330 BC into what later became the Ptolemaic Kingdom and Seleucid Empire, in addition to other minor territories which gained independence at that time. Iranian rule was re-established in the region starting from the rise of Arsacids in middle of 3rd century BCE.
