Webster’s New World Dictionary defines “obstinate” as “not will to give in or to change one’s mind: stubborn,” which directly and indirectly fits Ahmadinejad and the cry of his rally crowd.

Iran needs more time to develop a nuclear warhead and then create a sufficiently large deterrent nuclear arsenal. It will continue to use negotiation delaying tactics until this is completed.

I am convinced that Iran, Syria, Hizbullah, and Hamas are working together, with Turkey and Iraq standing in the wings, to strategically attack Israel when they are properly aligned tactically and logistically.

In 2007 I chose the time span for this scenario to occur at some point in time between 2010 and 2015. I do not believe the attack will occur this year, because they simply are not ready, but with each passing year the odds for an all out Middle East war will increase, and I am confident it will occur prior to 2015.

TEHERAN, Iran — Iran’s president said Wednesday that upcoming talks with six world powers about its disputed nuclear program

will fail if those nations continue along what he called a “path of arrogance.”

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s comments, made in an address to a crowd of thousands in northeastern Iran, cast doubt on any possible progress in talks that Teheran has said it is ready to hold with the six powers — the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany — sometime after Nov. 10.

“If you want to continue the previous path of arrogance … these people (the Iranian nation) will pursue you until you end up in hell,” Ahmad inejad said

in a speech broadcast live on state television.

The crowd, in the city of Bojnord, responded with chants of “death to the US.”

The UN Security Council imposed a fourth round of tough sanctions against Iran in June over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment, which at higher levels of processing can be used to make the fissile core of warheads.

At the time, Ahmadinejad dismissed the UN sanctions as “annoying flies” and as useless as “used tissues.” In response, he said then that Iran would not hold talks with the West for at least two months to “punish” world powers.

“The best path for them (world powers) is to respect nations, stop being obstinate, get out of glass palaces and sit down like a polite boy and talk on the basis of justice and respect.

If they come like this, they may get results,” Ahmadinejad said.

“But if they come with arrogance and deception, the response of the Iranian nation is the same it has already given.”

At the same rally, Ahmadinejad condemned Russia’s decision not to supply Iran with S-300 missiles in accordance with a previous agreement on Wednesday.

He went on to accuse Russia of “selling out” to Iran’s enemies and said that in his eyes, the original deal is still valid and therefore should be carried out.

Sources in Lebanon said that Hizbullah is preparing to seize power in Beirut should the UN Hariri tribunal implicate the group in the assassination of the former prime minister, Lebanon’s Asharq Alawsat reported on Tuesday. The report said that the group is preparing for a “zero hour scenario,” conducting security simulations in the capital city.

The report said that Hizbullah, Amal and other pro-Syrian groups were in close contact and coordination relating to a plan to take control of Beirut, the road to the south of the city, and neutralizing Christian and Sunni areas.

The sources said that the groups were already plotting zones of who would control which areas, in a day-after scenario.

According to the sources, Beirut was divided into three zones of military control, allocated to Amal, Hizbullah and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, and that alternative plans were prepared by Hizbullah for a scenario where the other groups could not hold

control of their zones.

Additionally, the report indicated that the “zero hour” refers to a scenario in which indictments are issued by the Hariri tribunal, followed by civil unrest in the streets of the Lebanese capital devolving into violence and a security vacuum.

The report, quoting retired Lebanese Brig.-Gen. Amin Hattit who is known to be close to Hizbullah, said that the plans contained many realistic elements.

He said that Hizbullah’s current strategy is to prevent strife, but if they are unable to prevent an explosion of unrest, they will take advantage. He said, “Everyone knows that the temptation will be limited geographically to areas where there is a Shi’ite majority,” referring to areas of Beirut, the Bekaa Valley region, and the south of the country.

Hattit concluded that “if this scenario does take place, Hizbullah would be able to seize power in three days, or a week at most,” and that the “era of Hariri in Lebanon” would end forever.

BEIRUT – Hezbollah’s number two warned on Tuesday of the risks of an explosion in Lebanon if members of his party are indicted by a UN-backed tribunal on the assassination of Lebanese ex-premier Rafiq Hariri.

“We have nothing to say regarding what we might do if the indictment accuses members of Hezbollah,” Sheikh Naim Qassem told BBC Arabic in an interview, a transcript of which was distributed by Hezbollah.

“The options are many and it depends on the circumstances at that time,” he added.

“What we do know is that such an indictment is a warning bell equivalent to lighting the fuse, to igniting the wick for an explosion, and is dangerous for Lebanon.”

The UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon is tasked with finding and trying those behind the February 14, 2005 Beirut bombing that killed Hariri

and 22 others.

Tensions over the STL have been mounting in the turbulent Mediterranean country since reports emerged that the tribunal was likely to indict senior Hezbollah figures.

Hassan Nasrallah, head of the Iranian- and Syrian-backed militant group, has repeatedly warned of unspecified repercussions in such an event.

But Saudi-backed Prime Minister Saad Hariri, son of the slain premier, has vowed to see the investigation through.

On Thursday, Nasrallah warned all Lebanese they should boycott investigators probing the Hariri assassination, saying further cooperation would be tantamount to an attack on his movement.

His remarks came a day after a group of angry women attacked two STL investigators who were meeting with a doctor at a gynaecology clinic in a Hezbollah-controlled suburb of Beirut.

Sheikh Qassem also revealed that the party had refused for months to respond to requests from UN investigators.

“Since the month of Ramadan (August), we have refused to hand over individuals, either close to Hezbollah or residing in our areas, whose names featured on a list that investigators wanted to interrogate,” he said.

“Since that date there have been no requests from the tribunal and (investigators) began to turn to individuals, as with what happened in the gynaecology clinic.”

Hizballah last Thursday, Oct. 28, conducted a command exercise in all parts of Lebanon to test its armed militia’s readiness for what its leaders called “zero hour” i.e. asserting its grip on Lebanon and “cornering” Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report the exercise took all day and led up to the sabre-rattling speech delivered by Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah that night, which was interpreted by all Lebanese factions interpreted as a declaration of war on their government and the prologue to heating up the border with Israel.

The Shiite terrorist group made no bones about the reasons for its war stance – just the opposite:

1. Hizballah found it necessary to answer the Israel Defense Forces’ recent “electronic exercise,” in keeping with a top-level Iranian-Syrian-Hizballah decision never to leave any American or Israel military step without response.

2. It was a practice for the military action planned for the hours leading up to the Special Lebanese Tribunal’s issuance of indictments against Hizballah leaders for complicity in the assassination of Lebanese ex-prime minister Rafiq Hariri five years ago.

The “zero hour” exercise demonstrated, according to Hizballah sources, “the quick implementation on the ground” of the necessary deployment. They claimed that in “less than two hours” they were able to “maintain a security and military grip of large areas of Lebanon.”

Our sources note that this is the first time Hizballah has leveled publicly about its plan for seizing control of Lebanon by force of arms – even without waiting for the STL indictments to be issued. The disclosure was made five days after the critical command exercise in order to establish a fact.

It took advantage of a moment when its key opponents were otherwise engaged.

President Barack Obama has his hands full with the Democrats’ sliding rating in polls ahead of the Nov. 2 midterm elections to Congress.

Saudi King Abdullah had an eye on an ambitious initiative to convene a national conciliation conference of all Iraqi factions for breaking the long impasse over the formation of a new government in Baghdad.

The Saudi king was seeking an al-Arab breakthrough that would push Iran off the board.

And in Jerusalem, political circles in Jerusalem are full engaged in the trivia of domestic scandal, such as the illegal employment of a foreign worker at Defense Minster Ehud Barak’s home or endless bickering over the stipends for yeshiva students with families.

Hizballah also feels it can safely send its gunmen out on the streets of Beirut and vent its ire on Israel without being jumped on by Western media because they are all totally absorbed in al Qaeda’s bomb package plot and its intercontinental ramifications.

In the next weeks, the judgment of the international panel set up to examine the assassination of the Sunni billionaire Rafiq al-Hariri – also the Lebanese prime minister – will be rendered.

It is all but certain that the judges will conclude that the killing of Hariri (and 22 others) was committed in 2005 by men of Hizbullah, Shi’a thugs. This could crush what’s left of the parliamentary alliance between the Sunni middle class and what’s left of Maronite influence. Hizbullah tried to deflect blame for Hariri’s killing onto the Israelis. But some lies are just too preposterous even for one’s own. The fact is that no one could grasp why Jerusalem would have wanted Hariri and his men blown up.

Despite the intentions of the big powers to curb Hizbullah through Security Council Resolution 1701, the effect of its mandate was to accomplish just the opposite. The way to protect your security is to end

all your offenses and their effects on our nation. One of the most important things is for you to withdraw from Bush’s accursed war in Afghanistan.

It is high time that the so-called direct and indirect colonialism come to an end. You should consider the state to which the US has deteriorated as a result of this unjust war.

It has reached the verge of bankruptcy in all the major areas, and soon, it will go back beyond the Atlantic Ocean, Allah willing.

First steps for French pullout from Afghanistan day after Bin Laden threat

Just a day after Osama bin Laden warned France to remove its troops from Afghanistan, French Defense Minister Herve Morin announced Thursday, Oct. 28 that the withdrawal of French troops would begin in early 2011.

Paris then raised its terror alert level to “red” after confirming the authenticity of the Bin Laden audiotape aired Wednesday.

The French government is obviously taking very seriously the threat issued by al Qaeda’s leader: “The only way to safeguard your nation and maintain your security is to lift all your injustice and its extensions off our people and most importantly to withdraw your forces from Bush’s despicable war in Afghanistan,” said Bin Laden.

Paris appears to believe that al Qaeda teams may already be in Paris poised to back up the threat, DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report. Defense minister Morin was pressured enough to make two separate statements: First he said, “There is a fixed date by NATO in the framework of its new strategy.

That is the start of 2011.” He then stated: “At this moment, there could be the first movements or withdrawal of allied forces from Afghanistan.”

French President Nicolas Sarkozy was interior minister with responsibility for the war on al Qaeda in March 2004 when its bombers blew up Madrid trains and railway stations killing 191 people and injuring more than 1,800. Then too Al Qaeda gave the Spanish government an ultimatum to withdraw its troops from Iraq – and struck with lethal force when it was not heeded.

Sarkozy appears determined to prevent this happening to France.

Morin tried hard to explain that the decision to pull the 3,750 French troops out of Afghanistan was not connected to the Bin Laden warning – but he was

not convincing.

DEBKAfile’s counterterrorism sources say that never since the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, has any Western country caved in so quickly and precisely to an Al Qaeda ultimatum.
