Revelation 13:1 – And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having SEVEN HEADS and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

Revelation 17:3 – So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having SEVEN HEADS and ten horns.

Mountains are at times used to refer to great governments or kingdoms in the Bible, such as in Isaiah when it refers to Christ’s Kingdom being established as the top Kingdom among the other nations, represented as lower mountains or little hills.

Isaiah 2:2-4 – And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. [3] And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. [4] And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

The SEVEN HEADS represent seven great mountains (governments or kingdoms) that have been composite parts in the development of the final great Revelation beast kingdom of antichrist.

These seven kingdoms of man have historically given their mammon contributions of knowledge, culture, and scientific advancements, as they have afflicted and affected Israel since God called her out of Egypt.

The SECOND of the HEADS to affect Israel was the great Assyrian Kingdom. It conquered the northern kingdom of Israel and carried its 10 tribes into captivity on the eastern side of the Tigris River.

It also conquered most of the cities of the southern kingdom of Judah, but was not able to conquer the city of Jerusalem by the intervention of God.

Isaiah 36:1,2,13-22 – Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them. [2] And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field. [13] Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria. [14] Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you. [15] Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. [16] Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern; [17] Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards. [18] Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The Lord will deliver us.

Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? [19] Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad

? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand

? [20] Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand? [21] But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not. [22] Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

Isaiah 37:30-38 – And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof. [31] And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: [32] For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this. [33] Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. [34] By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the Lord. [35] For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake. [36] Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold,

they were all dead corpses.

[37] So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. [38] And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

The success of man, driven by mammon desires, has been the motivation of men who built the seven heads on the Revelation beast. The final kingdom of man will be built on a foundation of man’s ingenuity in his advancement in all the fields of great human endeavor. Soon they will all be replaced by the Kingdom of Christ.

Revelation 11:15 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Daniel 7:13,14 – I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. [14] And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

It was Sennacherib who made Nineveh a truly magnificent city (c. 700 BC). He laid out fresh streets and squares and built within it the famous “palace without a rival,” the plan of which has been mostly recovered and has overall dimensions

of about 600 by 630 feet. It comprised at least 80 rooms, of which many were lined with sculpture.

A large part of the famous “K” collection of tablets was found there. Some of the principal doorways were flanked by human-headed bulls. At this time the total area of Nineveh comprised about 1,800 acres, and 15 great gates penetrated its walls. An elaborate system of 18 canals brought water from the hills to Nineveh, and several sections of a magnificently constructed aqueduct erected by the same monarch were discovered at Jerwan, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) distant.

His successor Esarhaddon built an arsenal in the Nabi Yunus mound, south of Quyunjik, and either he or his successor set up statues of the pharaoh Taharqa (Tarku) at its entrance as trophies to celebrate the conquest of Egypt . These were discovered by Fuad Safar and Muhammad ‘Ali Mustafa on behalf of the Iraqi Department of Antiquities in 1954. Ashurbanipal later in the 7th century BC constructed a new palace at the northwest end of the Acropolis. He also founded the great library and ordered his scribes to collect

and copy ancient texts throughout the country.

The “K” collection included more than 20,000 tablets or fragments of tablets and incorporated the ancient lore of Mesopotamia . The subjects are literary, religious, and administrative, and a great many tablets are in the form of letters. Branches of learning represented include mathematics, botany, chemistry, and lexicology. The library contains a mass of information about the ancient world and will exercise scholars for generations to come.

Tribulation Period Tsunamis and the Earth’s Isostasy Problem!

For quite a while the word “isostasy” did not appear in dictionaries because it was geological jargon that only a geologist would use among associates in the discipline. My computer spelling check system still puts a red line under it to let me know it does not exist. During the tsunami catastrophe one of the many pastors that called me heard me use “isostasy” in our conversation, so I defined it for him, but advised him he would not find it in any dictionary. Just to make sure I checked in a new dictionary, “The New Merriam-Webster Dictionary,” and lo and behold, there it was big as life. It gave the following definition: “A general equilibrium in the earth’s crust maintained by the gravity induced flow of deep rock.” I first heard the word used in a Physical Geology class I had at Arkansas Tech University in the seventies and, by the time I had graduated and taken post graduate geological courses, I became convinced that many prophetically directed Bible verses indicated the isostasy of the earth was going to be put in a state of equilibrium confusion by the weight shifting of water and land through earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis, which would be occurring like never before during the latter portion of the tribulation period.

You will find ample evidence of this in my last book, “Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit,” and on this Web Site in the last three Prophecy Updates in our Archives, which will refer you to many others in our Birth Pang and Prophecy Update Archives. I have been teaching this for 30 years, and my last book was written more than 20 years ago, so I am not a Johnnie-come-lately, who has suddenly decided to use the tsunami to bring a new idea to the prophetic stew of our age.

I have taught in “Tectonic Chaos,” “Tribulation Triad,” “The Bottomless Pit,” and “Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit” that, according to Scripture, the great tribulation period was going to be dominated by great earthquakes and humongous volcanic eruptions along the thousands of miles of tectonic plate boundaries, and tsunamis that would rake the coastlines of all nations. I am certain the horrific events described vividly by all the prophets from Amos, Joel, and Isaiah in the Old Testament to John’s closing book of Revelation in the New Testament, are visions of geologically generated phenomena. I am also certain that God, not man with his weapons of mass destruction, will produce the bulk of the destruction by his own power released through his own creation, the earth itself. The Scriptures which follow are just a few of the many exposited on in all my books.

Matthew 24:21,22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Daniel 12:1 – And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, EVERY ONE that shall be FOUND WRITTEN IN THE BOOK.

Malachi 3:16 to 4:3 – Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and A BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE WAS WRITTEN before him FOR THEM that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. [17] And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. [18] Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not. [1] For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. [2] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

[3] And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

Luke 21:25-28 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; [26] Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. [27] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. [28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

sus concerning redemption.

Ephesians 4:30 – And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day

of redemption.

Ashamedly, I confess that the number of times I have grieved him since I was born again 60 years ago may be approaching a million, and the number of times I have confessed my sins is in the same ballpark.

I John 1:8,9 – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

But in spite of what a wretched man I am in the flesh, I rejoice continually because I know I will be delivered from this body of death when my sealed soul leaves it, since it has been eternally passed from death to life by a one time sacrifice of Jesus, saved to the uttermost by his grace and, additionally, I also have the promise that even this old sinful fleshly nature that daily plagues me, will also be changed at the first resurrection. Paul asks a question in verse 24 below, and then answers in for us in verse 25, for which I thank God, and rejoice daily it is the truth of God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 7:14,23-25 – For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. [23] But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. [24] O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? [25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

John 5:24 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, HATH everlasting life, and SHALL NOT come into condemnation; but IS PASSED from death unto life.

Hebrews 7:24,25 – But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. [25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God BY him, SEEING he EVER liveth to make intercession for them.

Australians among 100s missing after quake

Nine Australians are among hundreds missing after a powerful earthquake triggered a deadly tsunami in Indonesia’s west.

The 7.7-magnitude quake struck near the remote Mentawai Island chain on Monday night, generating massive waves that swept ashore, killing at least 23 people and washing away hundreds of homes.

Disaster management officials in Jakarta on Tuesday put the number of missing at 167 but local officials said it was 380.

Nine Australians and a Japanese man were believed to have been in the area aboard surf charter boat MV Southern Cross. Twenty hours later they had still failed to make contact.

The traditional wooden boat is skippered by Australian man Chris Scurrah and Japanese man Akinori Fujita.

A journey manifest lists the other Australians as Clifford Humphries, Gary Mountford, Christopher Papallo, Alexander McTaggart, Neil Cox, Jeffrey Annesley, Stephen Reynolds and Colin Steell.

SurfAid International’s Mentawai Islands Program Manager Tom Plummer said the boat was believed to have been very close to the quake’s epicentre.

“There are genuine fears,” Mr Plummer said.

SurfAid founder Dave Jenkins said they had launched a search and rescue effort to find the Southern Cross and assess the damage to local villages.

“We do have increasingly worrying reports of quite high numbers of people who are missing in villages,” Dr Jenkins said.

“We hope that by this time tomorrow we will have accurate information as to what’s going on, and also we hope of course we’ve found Southern Cross.”

SurfAid hoped to charter a plane to help in the search if the Southern Cross was not found soon, he said.

Friends said Mr Scurrah was an experienced skipper who kept his boat well maintained and knew how to handle a crisis.

Indonesia’s Sea Security Coordinator said it had not received any distress calls from boats in the area.

Nonetheless, the Australian embassy will send a consular official to the West Sumatran capital of Padang to assist the search efforts.
Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said the Australian government would continue to monitor the situation closely.

“Of course, it’s possible that we simply have a telecommunications problem,” he said.

“The mobile phone system is down.

“But to be absolutely certain, I have been in contact with our ambassador in Jakarta to ensure that all efforts are being made to make contact with the vessel and to work with the Indonesia authorities on the ground concerning their whereabouts and wellbeing.

“On top of that, I’ve asked the ambassador to engage the Indonesian authorities on the whereabouts and wellbeing of the Indonesian population.”

It’s believed villages on the islands of Sipora, North Pagai and South Pagai have all been affected.

One official said ten villages had been “swept away”.

With bad weather hampering rescue efforts the death toll was expected to rise overnight.

At least nine Australians who were staying at North Pagai’s popular Macaroni’s Resort ran to a nearby village when the quake hit.

“I don’t know the full extent of the damage to the resort but all our guests have been accounted for and are safe,” resort co-owner Tony Mascali said.

A statement posted on the World Surfaris website said the resort “has experienced a level of devastation that has rendered the resort inoperable until further notice”.

Other surfers were forced to jump from the Freedom 3 and Midas charter boats when the tsunami crashed them against each other, causing an explosion.

Some of the surfers were swept inland and sheltered in trees until they were picked up by another boat, the D’Bora.

Chris Scurrah’s father Hal Scurrah said he hoped to have contact with his son soon.

“My feeling is that he’s possibly out of range, and hopefully he’s all well,” he said.

“I keep watching news, and I keep trying to text him or contact him on Facebook. He’ll have a laptop with him.

“Generally he’s not out of contact for a long time because often they will go into a sheltered spot or into a local town for supplies.”

The quake, which was followed by several powerful aftershocks, also shook Padang, sending panicked residents into the streets.

Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire and is very prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity.

More than 1100 people were killed when a powerful quake hit near Padang last year.

In 2004 a tsunami caused by a magnitude-9 earthquake off Sumatra killed an estimated 230,000 people.

Indonesian volcano erupts, 20 hurt by ash

Indonesia’s most volatile volcano started erupting on Tuesday, after scientists warned that pressure building beneath its dome could trigger the

most powerful eruption in years.

Up to 20 people were injured by hot ash spewed from Mount Merapi, said an AP reporter who witnessed them being taken away for treatment.

Subandriyo, chief vulcanologist in the area, said the eruption started just before dusk on Tuesday. The volcano had rumbled and groaned for hours.

“There was a thunderous rumble that went on for ages, maybe 15 minutes,” said Sukamto, a farmer who by nightfall had yet to abandon his home on the mountain’s fertile slopes.

“Then huge plumes of hot ash started shooting up into the air.”

Scientists have warned that pressure building beneath Merapi’s lava dome could trigger one of the most powerful blasts in years.

“The energy is building up … We hope it will release slowly,” government volcanologist Surono told reporters. “Otherwise we’re looking at a potentially huge eruption, bigger than anything we’ve seen in years.”

The alert level for the 2,968-metre mountain has been raised to its highest level.

Some 11,400 villagers on the mountain were urged to evacuate.

But most who fled were the elderly and children, while adults stayed to tend to homes and farms on the mountain’s fertile slopes.

In 2006, an avalanche of blistering gases and rock fragments raced down the volcano and killed two people.

A similar eruption in 1994 killed 60 people, and 1,300 people died in a 1930 blast.

Indonesian officials were also trying to assess the impact of a 7.7-magnitude earthquake late on Monday that caused a tsunami off western Indonesia, leaving scores of villagers dead or missing.

Indonesia is a vast archipelago of 237 million people, and the volcano and earthquake epicentre are about 13,000 kilometres apart.

The nation is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity due to its location on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire – a series of fault lines stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia.

There are more than 129 active volcanoes to watch in Indonesia, which is spread across 17,500 islands.

The first of the HEADS to affect Israel, as she grew rapidly to become a nation in

the land of Goshen, was the great Egyptian Kingdom.

Genesis 45:7-10 – And God sent me before you to preserve

you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. [8] So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout

all the land of Egypt.

The first head was Egyptian, the second Assyrian, the third Babylonian, the fourth Persian, the fifth Grecian, the sixth Roman, and both the seventh and eighth were classified as being one because they were both Islamic, separated by time and the process of metamorphosis.

The Umayyad Caliphate Arabic was the second of the four Islamic calipha

tes established after the death of Muhammad.

It was ruled by the Umayyad dynasty, whose name derives from Umayya ibn Abd Shams, the great-grandfather of the first Umayyad caliph.

Although the Umayyad family originally came from the city of Mecca, Damascus was the capital of their Caliphate.

Eventually, it would cover more than five million square miles, making it one of the largest empires the world had yet seen,[2] and the fifth largest contiguous empire ever to exist. After the Umayyads were overthrown by the Abbasid Caliphate, they relocated to Al-Andalus, where they established the Caliphate of Córdoba, which lasted until 1031.

The Umayyads were the first Muslim dynasty from 611 to 750 AD.

The Umayyad house was one of the major clans of the Quraysh tribe. Technically, Uthman, the third “Righteous Caliph”, was the first Umayyad caliph. During his tenure (644-655), he appointed members of his clan to various posts; in particular, Muawiya b.

Abi Sufyan was given the governorship of Syria. Upon the accession of Ali to the caliphate, Muawiya refused to pay him allegience, and in 658 the Syrians acknowledged Muawiya as caliph.

That same year he gained control of Egypt; following Ali’s death in 661, he subdued Iraq and then formally established himself
as caliph.

The first line of Umayyads were the Sufyanids (descendants of Abu Sufyan) who ruled from 661- 684. Under Muawiya (661-680) the capital of the Muslim empire was transferred to Damascus. He is credited with raising a highly-trained army of Syrian soldiers which was used to expand Muslim authority east into Khorasan and west into North Africa. Muawiya also led excursions into Anatolia beginning in 672 which culminated in an unsuccessful three-year seige of Constantinople (674-677). He retained the administrative structures left by the Byzantines and Persians but consolidated his authority by appointing kinsmen to key posts.

Before his death, Muawiya secured allegiance to his son, Yazid, thus introducing dynastic succession to Muslim rule.

In an October 17, 2010 op-ed titled “Pursuing an Islamic Metamorphosis” on English.aljazeera.net, Mohamed El-Moctar El-Shinqiti writes that the Muslim world is facing a decline similar to

that of medieval Europe, as described by Dutch historial Johan Huizinga. He says that the Islamic world is experiencing a crisis, at the heart of which is “the lack of consensus about the social contract on which society should be based, especially in terms of an agreed understanding for the relation between religion and state.” He goes on to discuss how a new consensus might be formed, asserting that “non-Muslim minorities and non-practicing Muslims need to accept the fact that Islamic law is too rich and too important to be discarded.”

According to the website, Al-Shinquity is “an author in political history and history of religion.”

“In his book The Autumn of the Middle Ages, Dutch historian Johan Huizinga describes the decline of the medieval world as a process of ‘dying and rigidifying of a previously valid store of thought.’

Al-Qaida’s ‘Virtual Caliphate’ is highlighted in a new book by ‘Post’ crime and internal security correspondent Yaakov Lappin. Excerpts:

Nine years after the US and its allies attacked the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and destroyed al-Qaida’s only safe haven, the threat posed by Salafi jihadis continues to cast a shadow over European and American cities, international air travel and the stability of Arab and Asian Muslim states, from Egypt to nuclear Pakistan.

Al-Qaida and its affiliates were able to survive the loss of Afghanistan largely because they set up a base on the Internet instead.

The virtual caliphate is used by Islamists to carry out functions typically reserved for a physical state, such as creating training camps, mapping out a constitution and drafting tax laws. The global jihadi movement seeks one, main goal – to reestablish an Islamic caliphate and to continually expand its borders. In the meantime, due to its failure to achieve this goal, it has declared the whole world to be a dar al-harb – a land of war – and established a caliphate online instead, in which new attacks are plotted and from which new recruits are dispatched to wreak havoc on the world order so despised by jihadis.

Even with no firm control over any territory, al-Qaida has, thanks to the virtual caliphate, been able to continue to recruit new soldiers for the jihad, train them for war and keep the core of the global jihadi movement intact in cyberspace, while waiting for an opportunity to “upload” the caliphate to a physical area, be it Somalia, Yemen or a return to Afghanistan. Some online activists have even proposed Britain as the site of the future caliphate. The following is an extract from my forthcoming book, The Virtual Caliphate, published by Potomac Books, Inc.

AFTER ACCUSING the West of being a morally bankrupt, criminal and polytheistic society, hell-bent on wiping Islam off the map, the website next targets capitalism, the system that “has led people to become enslaved to wealth.” In what sounds like an Islamist version of Marxist writings, the website condemns capitalism for making money and wealth the absolute forces of benefit.

People’s souls have “become subservient to the dollar bill in an almost absolute sense, with no acknowledgement of Allah.”

Again the Koran is cited: “The Messenger said, ‘May the worshiper of al-diar [wealth] be wretched. May the worshiper of velvet cloth be wretched.

May the worshiper of silk cloth be wretched. May he be wretched and disappointed.’” The 2008 financial crises have been exploited by jihadi websites, with some even adding whole sections to their home pages that portray the crises as yet more evidence of the West’s defects.

The ministry of war’s indoctrination section aspires to shatter the identity of young Muslims.

The jihadi way is freedom, young Muslims are told. The true “universal declaration of freedom of man from servitude” is Islam, which is why jihadism must challenge “all kinds and forms of systems which are based on the concept of the sovereignty of man.” According to the Saved Sect website, Western Muslims must decide whether to continue down this path or choose the jihadi liberation movement.

“Democracy and all that emanates from it is retarded and perverse, something that is completely rejected in Islam.”

If Muslims reading these unremitting messages begin to view themselves as being part of the problem, then the first stage of jihadi brainwashing, in which there is a radical shift in their own thinking, is nearly complete.

The newly radicalized Muslims must not only alter their worldview, they must also start thinking about how to dedicate their lives to the caliphate. All free time should be spent doing this, as “there is no such concept in Islam called boredom or ‘killing time’ and this disease affects a large portion of Muslims, male and female.”

A LONG LIST of activities must immediately disappear from the daily lives of the regular visitors to jihadi websites: “Listening to music, smoking, cruising, watching TV, running away from responsibilities to go on picnics and holidays, daily socializing with the intention to have fun and kill time, sleeping a lot and chilling out, reading cheap newspapers, magazines and novels, etc., rather than to read more beneficial and serious books such as the Koran, books of hadith, Islamic articles, etc., playing games, solving crosswords, chatting on the phone for hours, ignoring duties/responsibilities and preferring to rest, slack and be lazy, exceeding one’s involvement in sport activities, diverting from the serious, fruitful work to wasting time, playing on the Internet for no need, looking for excuses not to do any duties as he is bored with doing them, window shopping and spending hours in the market, going to cinemas and restaurants to eat out, hanging out with friends, joking around and being sarcastic.”

A virtual Taliban quickly establishes the dos and don’ts of the modern jihadi warrior.

The Paradise Cult

As they become increasingly alienated from the world, new recruits are taught to despise life and cherish death.

The immediate reward for the soldiers of jihad is paradise.

That message is drummed into recruits day after day.

The allure of paradise allows the online jihadi recruiters to guarantee immediate rewards to those who sign up.

Paradise, after all, can be reached instantly.

An e-book written by Sheikh Yusuf al-Uraayi titled The Ruling on Jihad and Its Divisions, which was translated into English by British jihadi ringleader Abu Osama, sings the praises of reaching paradise by dying in an act of jihad.

“Whosoever dies and does not fight jihad nor wished himself to fight, dies upon a branch of hypocrisy,” the text reads.

The terrifying belief that an act of jihad will result in the reward of paradise is based on an understanding of a quote from the Koran. “Allah traded with the believers, I will give you jannah [heaven], if you give me your life and your wealth, they fight in the way of Allah, they kill and are killed… Then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme” (Englishlanguage Koran 9:111). The quote above is taken from an online document called “the Permissibility of Self-Sacrifice Operations” downloaded from a website that espoused jihad in the West. The Muslim nation is under attack, and the twin pillars of Islam, the caliphate and jihad, are missing, the website said.

As an immediate incentive, the lure of jannah has proven its effectiveness. There is no shortage of evidence that this promise has the ability to convince young men to end their own lives for the purpose of jihad, forming one act in a chain of attacks aimed at resurrecting the caliphate.

“We are not targeting for something small… we target jannah… Allah traded with the believers, first with their life, and then their wealth, whether they die by the sword, the gun, or the bomb,” the website stated.

Being shot on the battlefield or “becoming a bullet for the sake of Allah” is equally valiant.

“When the time comes, the martyr will never feel at the time of his death except a pinch.”

While many Muslim scholars have ruled that acts of jihad such as suicide bombing are forbidden acts of self-destruction, jihadi websites quickly establish that suicide terrorism is a holy sacrificial act and surround it in a mist of glamor and mysticism.

It, like similar acts, is a pinnacle moment of spiritual ecstasy. In online jihadi rhetoric, these acts are called martyrdom operations. A working definition of martyrdom operations can easily be found among the numerous websites that sanctify jihad. “A specific action performed by the mujahid [holy warrior], with certainty, or least amount of doubt, that it will inflict on the enemy killing and suffering, and that he has certainty or the least amount of doubt that he will reach martyrdom by being killed for the sake of Allah.” While most soldiers are taught to avoid injury to themselves, jihadi recruits are told that coming back unscathed from their mission would be an unmitigated failure.

Their harm and demise is necessary to reach heaven.

“Either way there is victory, whether he kills or is killed,” the website assured.

The rhetoric penetrates deep into the minds of newly brainwashed online recruits.

This can be confirmed by a glance at the screen names of members of jihadi chat rooms. Jannah is one gaining popularity.

To increase the bait, fanciful descriptions of the portion of heaven reserved by Allah for the Islamic “martyr” pepper these websites. The virtual caliphate often talks about “the palace for the martyr,” a heavenly station where dead jihadis go to enter paradise.
