Iran on war alert over “US and Israeli concentrations” in Azerbaijan

In a rare move, Iran has declared a state of war on its northwestern border, DEBKAfile’ s military and Iranian

sources report. Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps men and equipment units are being massed in the Caspian Sea region against what Tehran claims are US and Israeli forces concentrated on army and air bases in Azerbaijan ready to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The announcement came on Tuesday, June 22 from Brig.-Gen Mehdi Moini of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), commander of the forces tasked with “repelling” this American-Israeli offensive.

He said: “The mobilization is due to the presence of American and Israeli forces on the western border,” adding, “Reinforcements are being dispatched to West Azerbaijan Province because some western countries are fueling ethnic conflicts to destabilize the situation in the region.”

In the past, Iranian officials have spoken of US and Israel attacks in general terms. DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources note that this is the first time that a specific location was mentioned and large reinforcements dispatched to give the threat substance.

Other Iranian sources report that in the last few days, Israel has secretly transferred a large number of bomber jets to bases in Azerbaijan, via Georgia, and that American special forces are also concentrated in Azerbaijan in preparation for a strike.

No comment has come from Azerbaijan about any of these reports.

Iranian Azerbaijan, the destination of the Revolutionary Guards forces reinforcements, borders on Turkey, Iraq and Armenia. Witnesses say long IRGC convoys of tanks, artillery, anti-aircraft units and infantry are seen heading up the main highways to Azerbaijan and then further north to the Caspian Sea.

On Tuesday, June 22, Dr.

Uzi Arad, head of Israel’s National Security Council and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest adviser, said “The latest round of UN Security Council sanctions on Iran is inadequate for thwarting its nuclear progress.

A preemptive military strike might eventually be necessary.”

DEBKAfile’s intelligence and Iranian sources point to three other developments as setting off Iran’s war alert:

1. A certain (limited) reinforcement of American and Israeli forces has taken place in Azerbaijan. Neither Washington nor Jerusalem has ever acknowledged a military presence in this country that borders on Iran, but Western intelligence sources say that both keep a wary eye on the goings-on inside Iran from electronic surveillance bases in that country.

2. Iran feels moved to respond to certain US steps: The arrival of the USS Harry S.

Truman Strike Group in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea and its war games with France and Israel, which included live-fire bombing practices against targets in Iran.

3. The execution of Abdolmalek Rigi, head of the Sunni Baluchi rebel organization (including the Iranian Baluchis), on June 20 was intended as a deterrent for Iran’s other minorities. Instead, they are more restive than ever. Several Azeri breakaway movements operate in Iranian Azerbaijan in combination with their brethren across the border. Tehran decided a substantial buildup in the province would serve as a timely measure against possible upheavals.

US-led armada secretly drilled bombing Iranian targets, missile defense with Israel

The armada of 10 US warships plus an Israeli and German battle vessel each, which transited the Suez Canal Friday, June 18, has reached the Persian Gulf,

DEBKAfile’s military sources report. But first, from June 6 through June 10, the USS Harry S. Truman carrier Strike Group was deployed 50 miles off the shore of southwestern Israel, secretly drilling the interception of incoming Iranian, Syrian and Hizballah missiles and rockets against US and Israeli targets in the Middle East.

This was first revealed by DEBKA-Net-Weekly 449 on June 18.

The fleet let by the Truman then headed for the Persian Gulf through the Suez Canal accompanied by an Israeli missile ship (not identified) and the German missile frigate FGS Hessen F221.

For five days and night, the Truman’s sixty F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter bombers took off on simulated bombing missions against targets set up by the Israeli Air Force at its firing range on the Nevatim Base-28, in the Negev desert southeast of Be’er Sheva – one of its three big air bases.

The exercise was prompted by rising tensions from Syria’s deployment of advanced Scud missiles for Hizballah on its border with Lebanon. it took place not far from the spot where Israeli commandos subsequently raided the Turkish Mavi Marmara on May 31.

The exercise had 60 American F-16 fighter jets landing at Israeli Air Force facilities from bases in Germany and Romania, refueling and taking off with Israeli fighter bombers to practice long-range bombing missions over the Red Sea and the Mediterranean and drill air-to-air combat along the way.

Both Washington and Jerusalem withheld public exposure of this US-Israeli aerial exercise, dubbed Juniper Stallion 2010.

President Barack Obama ordered all US missile interceptors in the Middle East to go on war alert in the second week of June, including batteries aboard US Sixth Fleet vessels on the Mediterranean and the US Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf.

DEBKAfile’s military sources add that Israel’s missile’s shield, including Arrow anti-missile missiles, was similarly on standby.

It was decided at the White House to stage the Juniper Stallion exercise only eight months after Juniper Cobra 10, the biggest joint war maneuver the US and Israel had ever conducted against missile attack, after receiving new intelligence that Iran, Syria and Hizballah had almost doubled their operational armory of medium-range missiles.

Switching over to a tough line, US defense secretary Robert Gates warned a Senate panel on June 18 that Iran could fire “scores or hundreds” of short- and medium-range missiles against Europe – in salvoes rather than one or two at a time.
Four days later, Gates told a Fox interviewer: “I don’t think we’re prepared to even talk about containing a nuclear Iran.

I think… our view still is we do not accept the idea of Iran having nuclear weapons.” Asked whether a military strike was preferable, he said all options remain on the table although some time is left for working on problem.”

Israeli jets ok’d to fly over Saudi Arabia, reports ‘The Times’.

Saudi Arabia will allow Israeli jets to use its airspace to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times of London reported on Saturday.

The report cited a US defense source as saying the Saudis have already done tests to ensure no jet is shot down in the event of an Israeli attack. The source added that the US State Department is aware of the action and agrees with it. According to the report, a Saudi government source confirmed that a blind eye would be turned to Israeli jets attacking Iran.

An Israeli attempt to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities would likely target uranium enrichment facilities at Qom and Natanz as well as a heavy water reactor at Arak and a gas storage development at Isfahan.

The UN Security Council passed a fourth set of sanctions against Iran on Wednesday in the hopes of diplomatically stopping Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry released a statement following the passing of the sanctions which said that the resolution was “not enough,” and that what was necessary now was for additional “significant steps” to be taken by various countries and international groupings.

EVERLASTING Revelation Go

spel – Part 3

In Parts 1 and 2 we traced the EVERLASTING gospel from Genesis 3:15 through Seth in Genesis 4:25,26 to Noah in Genesis 6:8 to Abraham in Genesis 22:18.

Revelation 14:6 – And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

This same EVERLASTING gospel, everlasting promise, was continued through Isaac, the promised seed of the Patriarch Abraham.

Genesis 26:3,4 – Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; [4] And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy SEED shall ALL the nations of the earth be blessed;

The same good news covenant of grace was continued through Isaac’s son Jacob, who God renamed Israel.

Genesis 28:13,14 – And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; [14] And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and IN THY SEED shall ALL the families of the earth be blessed.

The Seed covenant, the Seed promise, was continued through Jacob’s son Judah, and then pictured in the Tabernacle that God instructed Moses to build.

The Tabernacle represented the Law, which pictured the promised Seed that was to come and fulfill it, so that man might realize the curse, the condemnation he was under, and turn to the Seed to deliver him from it.

Galatians 3:18-26 – For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. [19] Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

[20] Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. [21] Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. [22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. [23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. [24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

[26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

And the good news grace Seed was prophesied to come through Judah, a son of Jacob.

The Seed was to forever have the God given right to reign as eternal king of the Shiloh tabernacle because he earned the right by living a perfect, righteous life. The sceptre was held between a king’s legs when he was positioned on his throne, and was a symbol of his eternal authority and right to rule.

Genesis 49:10 –The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Hebrews 1:8,9 – But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

[9] Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Philippians 2:6-9 – Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

The tabernacle, and everything in it, pictured the future Seed’s character, ministry, and God’s promises in him.

The tabernacle at Shiloh was the earthly presentation of the character and work of the coming Seed, Christ Jesus. Shiloh was the symbolic name of the ruler who

was to come from Judah, who would never lose his right to rule, which would allow him to save to the uttermost for all eternity.

Hebrews 7:22-25 – By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

[23] And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: [24] But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

[25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

IT IS NOW TIME TO COME HOME PROPHETICALLY

TO LET A PROPHETICALLY INEVITABLE WAR BEGIN

It is time to bring our troops home and watch a prophetically inevitable war begin in the Middle East. I have stated since 1976 a militarily sound belief I learned in MAC Orlando Military Academy – It’s impossible to permanently sustain a military victory and occupation on the Asian Continent. The sooner we bring all our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan – THE BETTER! Maintain a powerful American Naval Force in Middle East waters with ground troops on carrier fleets – YES! But get our ground troops out of the Middle East as soon as possible in a coordinated protective tactical withdrawal.

Gates warns Baghdad of “dramatic consequences” for pact failure

The US defense secretary Robert Gates responded angrily to Iraq’s unanimous vote Saturday, Oct. 21 to demand amendments in the draft status-of-forces agreement providing for US troops to stay in Iraq until 2011. There will be “pretty dramatic” consequences,” Gates said unless Iraqi politicians get behind the agreement.

He said US officials were greatly reluctant to negotiate changes in the text which allows US troops to operate in Iraq after Dec. 31, when the UN mandate runs out.

“What we have here is a final draft,” he said.

The agreement calls for U.S. forces to withdraw from Iraqi cities by next June 30 and from the entire country by the end of 2011, while allowing those timelines to be extended by mutual consent.

It gives the U.S. legal jurisdiction over American troops and civilian government personnel accused of crimes while on-base or on-duty. Iraqi authorities would have jurisdiction over U.S. personnel accused of serious crimes while off-base or off-duty.

America’s Moment of Truth in Afghanistan

It would appear that the United States has a choice between acknowledging defeat, pulling out, and suffering the inevitable political humiliation, or continuing to fight an unwinnable war and bleeding further. Is there a third option

? Yes — a negotiated settlement, says Patrick Seale.

America’s agony in Afghanistan cannot continue indefinitely.

A stop must be put to it, one way or another. The cost to the United States — 1,000 soldiers killed, thousands more wounded, $300bn spent — is already more than can rationally be justified.

If the United States and its NATO allies were winning the war there might be a case for continuing to pour in men and treasure in the hope of declaring a clear victory. But this is evidently not the situation. Instead, the U.S. is facing, if not defeat, then at best a draw.

General Stanley McCrystal’s decision to defer for several months the planned attack on the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar is itself a clear sign of American exhaustion and strategic uncertainty.

So what is to be done?

The first task must surely be to clarify the issues. President Barack Obama has said that the United States is in Afghanistan to destroy Al-Qa’ida. But the Taliban are not Al-Qa’ida. The Taliban are a movement of tribal and Islamic resistance, largely recruited among the Pashtuns, Afghanistan’ s majority ethnic group.

The Pashtuns are well-known — indeed notorious — for their fierce independence, their detestation of foreign control, and their attachment to their religious faith and tribal traditions. It is true that the Taliban — or at least some Taliban — have in the past given some Al-Qa’ida fighters protection, but they should not be confused with them. Most experts believe Al-Qa’ida’s presence in Afghanistan is very small, and that its leaders have sought refuge in the tribal areas of north-west P akist

Another source of great confusion is between the rival U.S. doctrines of counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency, which have been the subject of much heated debate in Washington.

The first means finding and destroying ‘terrorists’, the second means winning over and protecting the local civilian population so as to wean it away from the ‘terrorists’. The United States does not appear to have made a clear choice between these doctrines but is applying a bit of both — with unsatisfactory results.

The missile attacks by pilotless drones are an example of counter-terrorism — but, as they also kill large numbers of innocent civilians, they arouse fierce anti-American sentiment.

Counter-insurgency means providing the population with employment, education, medical services, justice and good government. These are admirable aims, but virtually impossible to achieve in a situation of war — especially when the insurgents, rather than the United States, seem to be winning.

If this is the unfortunate situation, it would appear that the United States has a choice between acknowledging defeat, pulling out, and suffering the inevitable political humiliation, or continuing to fight an unwinnable war and bleeding further, in fact, sinking deeper into the Afghan quagmire.

Is there a third option? Yes, there is, but it has not so far been seriously considered. It is to use America’s considerable resources and influence in the search for a negotiated settlement with the Taliban insurgents.

This will involve making a number of key decisions. The first is to give Pakistan a major role in any peace process and to recognize its need to be a dominant external influence in a post-war Afghanistan. Pakistan is haunted by the fear of being trapped between a hostile India and a pro-Indian Afghanistan. It maintains close (if clandestine) relations with some Taliban factions precisely because it knows that it will need them as allies once U.S. forces withdraw — as they eventually must.

Pakistan is therefore an obvious conduit to the Taliban — a conduit which must be exploited.

A second key decision must be to involve other influential states in the vicinity of Afghanistan — notably Iran and Turkey, but also Russia and China — in the search for a settlement. But the United States cannot ask Tehran and Ankara for favours when — under Israeli pressure – it is tightening sanctions against the first and is allowing tensions to arise with the second.

A third decision must be to rally international and local support for another major loya jirga, or tribal council, rather like the one President Hamid Karzai recently convened, but with clearer objectives. These should be (a) to declare a nation-wide ceasefire; (b) to hear a pledge from the United States that all foreign troops will be withdrawn if the ceasefire holds for one year; (c) to hear another solemn pledge that, once the ceasefire is seen to hold, the United States and its allies will provide Afghanistan with a multi-billion dollar aid package over ten years, to be administered by the United Nations; (d) to set up an Afghan committee to draft a new constitution providing for a more decentralized country in which regions and minority ethnic groups will enjoy greater autonomy.

Afghanistan’s newly-discovered mineral wealth — its fabulous deposits of copper, gold, lithium, iron ore — should be the key to a settlement.

This much abused and tormented country could be transformed within a generation.

In conditions of peace and prosperity, the Al-Qa’ida problem will simply fade away.

EVERLASTING Revelation Gospel – Part 2

I pointed out in some detail in Part 1 of this Series that the EVERLASTING gospel did not begin in the New Testament. It came into existence before the foundation of the world. And it has always been the promise of the Seed, Christ Jesus. God knew before he ever m ade m

an that man would make the wrong choice, and thereby need a Savior.

Ephesians 1:3,4 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: [4] According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

The first application of the promise of the Seed is found in the Garden of Eden, immediately after Adam and Eve disobeyed God.

Genesis 3:15 – And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The EVERLASTING gospel is the good news promise of God made here in simplistic Old Testament format.

It did not begin in the New Testament. It came into existence by name, and as the “better” covenant or promise with the arrival, the ministry, the sacrifice, the death, and the resurrection of the Old Testament Lamb Seed of God, the man Christ Jesus.

The gospel has always had the true characteristic of EVERLASTING because it has always been an unconditional covenant. However, the extent of the good news, that it was totally by the grace of God in his promised seed, was not able to be completely understood until the Seed had totally fulfilled every jot and tittle of its requirements for all who would receive him as the full atonement for all their sins – That is why it is good news and why it is a “better” covenant – because now the believer is able to understand that Christ fulfilled it for him, and that the salvation in the covenant is totally by the grace that was, and is, in God’s promised Seed.

in the promised Seed be

ing confirmed by God in Christ. It was the Seed, the man Christ Jesus, who confirmed the covenant, the promise of God. It was God in him that reconciled the world to himself by him.

II Corinthians 5:19 – To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Romans 4:7,8 – Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. [8] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

As was pointed out in Part 1 of this series, the gospel, the good news was first announced in Genesis 3:15, and the covenant was continued through the flood by the grace of God extended to the surviving human race by grace through Noah, a direct descendant of Seth. God’s promise, God’s covenant, has always been by faith that God’s Word, God’s promise of a Seed, is true.

Genesis 6:11-13 – The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. [12] And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. [13] And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. [18] But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. [8] But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

God continued his grace promise, his grace covenant of the Seed, through Abraham.

Genesis 22:18 – And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

But how can we be sure “thy seed” refers to Christ, the promised Seed, and that it is an unconditional covenant that produces EVERLASTING salvation that will never be taken away once received

Galatians 3:16-18, 1-14 – Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. [17] And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. [18] For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. [1] O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before

It is certain there will be more crisis spurts in the Middle East between the Islamic Jihad proponent nations and Israel, but for the rest of this year I believe the tempo of direct confrontation will gradually die down.

Turkey, Iran, and Syria are now in the process of planning behind closed doors a massive future attack against Israel, which I am convinced they will launch at some point in time before 2015. A major factor in Islamic forces defeats in 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973 was poor planning between Arab iron and clay toes, which characteristically do not hold together very well or very long, due primarily to the theological differences between Sunnis and Shiites.

I believe they have finally learned their lesson and are laying the conspiracy groundwork in such a manner they will be much better prepared and hold together longer in the coming war.

God will hold them together until Armageddon.

Christ comes at Armageddon at His Second Advent to set up his kingdom, which will never be destroyed.

Daniel 2:42-44 – And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. Gaza sea blockade upheld by US, EU as Israel eases land siege

Barring surprises, the sea campaign against Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza spearheaded by Turkey may have run its course, DEBKAfile’s Middle East sources report.

Beirut is close to abandoning the Lebanese convoy, Damascus has turned away requests to use its ports, Cyprus is negative and even the Iranian expedition appears snarled. Israel has in the last 24 hours won US and European support for its sea blockade. It was endorsed also by Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas after the Israeli cabinet bowed to international pressure and approved the passage of all civilian goods to the 1.2 million Palestinians of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

After Israel endured three weeks of international censure for its commando raid on the flotilla aiming to break the Gaza blockade and 9 Turkish deaths aboard the Mavi Marmara, the Netanyahu government has hauled the wheel round, stemmed the tide of opprobrium and stabilized Israel’s diplomatic and security position. British ex-prime minister Tony Blair, Special Envoy of the Middle East Quartet, pitched in to help Israel out of a tight spot ahead of prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s White House meeting with President Barack Obama on July 8.

The formula drafted and approved by Israel’s security cabinet permitted all civilian goods to reach Gaza, banned military, dual-use materials and weapons, and left the sea blockade in place.

In Gaza, Hamas leader Mahmoud A Zahar, furious over the collapse of the campaign against the blockade, declared Sunday, June 20 that it was time for Qassam missiles to be launched against Israel from the West Bank as well as Gaza.

Nothing about Hamas’ policy had changed, he stressed in response to Blair’s admonition that Hamas could become part of the peace process if it released the Israel soldier, Gilad Shalit, held captive for four years, and renounced violence.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Israel and Western military and intelligence circles in the Middle East warn that a celebration over the apparent end of the flotilla chapter would premature. Thwarted for now, Turkey, Iran, Hizballah and Hamas may be at this minute plotting a major operation for giving the Israeli Navy enforcing the blockade a nasty surprise.

For now, Washington, Jerusalem, the Europeans and Abbas’ faction between them have managed to post keep out signs over most Middle East ports usable for sending convoys out to Gaza. The first to be affected was the two-ship Lebanese flotilla that was scheduled to set sail from Beirut port Monday, 21.

The White House in Washington, the UN Secretary’s bureau in New York and UNIFIL Command headquarters in Lebanon made it clear to the Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri that letting the two-ship campaign flotilla to depart Beirut port on schedule, Monday June 21, would be a very bad idea. Various bureaucratic pretexts were found Sunday to keep the ship from sailing.

Our intelligence sources also disclose: Campaign organizers turned to Damascus for the use of Syrian ports, only to be told that Syria is at war with Israel and not looking for trouble.

Anyway, it would most inconvenient at this time because President Bashar Assad is preparing for a long absence touring Latin America.

They have not had much luck with South European, Greek or Cypriot ports because of the deal Tony Blair swung with Netanyahu.

The only ports remaining now for launching boats against the Gaza blockade are Turkish, but the fact that one of the ships, to have carried scores of women campaigners, including many Christians, was dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus (Maryam in Arabic) does not sit easily in Ankara and its Islamic government.

The second ship is Julia.

alem Sunday, Netanyahu and Blair announced that a new list of banned goods for passage through land crossings from Israel would be published soon and construction materials allowed for projects under international supervision such as schools, health facilities, housing, sanitation and water – to make sure they are not used for military installations. The opening of additional crossings would be contingent on the security situation.
