Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 4 – The Blue Turns to Gray!

Please look in our Birth Pang Figures Archive for the several figures referenced in this, and the other chapters, in this updated 1977 book, “Tectonic Chaos.” Figure 3 shows the world’s tectonic plates.

Revelation 6:14 – And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

In Zechariah 14:4 we were advised of a massive opening of the Arabah fault which created a wide graben valley between the two halves of the mount of Olives. In Revelation 6:12 we were told of the earthquake in the Jordan Valley, which induced the splitting of the mount of Olives.

Zechariah 14:4 – And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. Revelation 6:12 – And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; (See Archives – Birth Pang 3)

This earthquake will trigger a chain reaction that spreads erratically on the tectonic plate borders of the earth to produce countless numbers of earthquakes for some three and one-half years across the surface of the entire planet. All mountains and islands are firmly impregnated into these massive plates, and ride along as passengers on their surface. By the end of the three and one-half years, every mountain peak, and the center of every island, will have a new set of latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates in microseconds. I know this to be true because Revelation 6:14 states that “every mountain and island were moved out of their places.” Furthermore, I believe the fantastic breakup along the shifting place borders will produce thousands of volcanic eruptions, which will fulfill the phenomenon “and the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together.” I believe the use of a Jewish scroll as a simile to show the gradual disappearance of the sun, moon, stars, and blue sky, is the perfect illustration of the effect volcanic smoke has on the appearance of the heavens as it builds up in the stratosphere. When the great volcano Krakatoa erupted in 1883 more than half of the island was destroyed and blown away in the explosion. The cloud over the volcano reached 17 miles into the air, and the volcanic dust from the eruption was carried completely around the world by the winds of the stratosphere – taking months to drift down to the earth’s surface. The microscopic volcanic particles in the earth’s atmosphere produced beautiful sunrises and sunsets throughout a large part of the world long after the eruption.

I am convinced that the shifting of the plates will generate the formation of long chains of volcanic eruptions, pictured in figure 10, along all the boundaries of figure 3. God, who made everything I have described to the point, has also created, around the entire earth, a great temperature inversion shroud in the lower section of

the stratosphere, just above the tropopause. So any time there is a moderate to severe vertical volcanic eruption, smoke is forcefully injected through the tropopause, and then trapped beneath the temperature inversion of the stratosphere. There is virtually no moisture found above the tropopause, so the volcanic smoke particles take a long time to become heavy enough to fall earthward by condensation of water vapor on them, and smoke remains suspended in the lower section of the stratosphere for five to fifteen years. The winds, in the lower section of the stratosphere, do spread the volcanic smoke around the entire envelope of atmosphere that surrounds the earth over a two to four year period. Figure 11 portrays the great temperature inversion that exists through the stratosphere around the entire earth. As the smoke attempts to rise through this inversion it soon reaches a temperature near its own, and then begins to flatten out into a great shield of smoke, a shield that is then carried by upper level winds to produce an earth encompassing cloud in the lower stratosphere. Have you ever really looked at all the Old and New Testament prophecies that describe the appearance of the heavenly bodies during the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period? Let us now consider just a few of them, to see if we can correlate them with the increasing severity of their visual effect on the view of human eyes from start to finish.

Joel 2:30,31 – And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. [31] The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.

Revelation 8:12 – And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

Joel 2:10 – The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

Matthew 24:29 – Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

How can this be? One prophet says you will not be able to see the sun, moon, and stars about one-third of the time, but another says you won’t be able to see them at all.

These prophecies are fulfilled gradually over the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period, and the prophets have been given visions of their effects on the view of the heavenly bodies from the earth, at different times, during this period. Let us assume that the last three and on-half years of the Tribulation Period have begun, and a person is standing at point “X” on figure 12. This person could look up and see the sun, moon, or stars from this vantage point on the earth’s surface without obstruction. Now, let’s allow figure 12 to come alive, with the winds of the stratosphere moving the volcanic smoke clouds around the earth in patches.

Within a few hours after you first made your unobstructed observation of the sun, moon, or stars, the thin leading edge of the volcanic cloud would begin to move between you and the heavenly bodies. If it were night, the moon would turn blood red. If it were day, the sun would be darkened.

Within an hour or two the thicker part of the volcanic smoke shield would move over you, and the sun, moon, or stars would completely disappear from view. After a few more hours the back side of the cloud would move past, and you would once again be enjoying a clear space between volcanic cloud patches, such that the sun, moon, or stars would again be visible. This scenario would be repeated over and over again during the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period, but on a gradually worsening trend. You would not be able to see the sun, moon, or stars about one-third of the time – at times the moon would be blood red and the sun black as sackcloth of hair – and sometimes you could not see any of the heavenly bodies. All of this is exactly what the Old and New Testament prophets observed in their visions. These are a part of the “signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars” prophesied by Luke.

Luke 21:25,26 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; [26] Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

At this point it may seem I have been sidetracked from explaining “and the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together,” however, everything up to this point has been for that specific purpose. In Revelation 6:14, the word used for heaven is “ouranos,” and there are three of them: (1) The heaven where God dwells, (2) The heaven that makes up our atmosphere, and (3) The heaven were the sun, moon, stars, and other heavenly bodies dwell, that is, the universe. It is the universe heaven to which John refers. The word translated “departed” is “apechoristhe,” which, in this case, simply means “was removed from view.” John is saying he saw what the Hebrews considered heaven (sun, moon, and stars) removed from his view. When a man departs, or is removed, he is no longer visible to the one from which he departed. He may “depart” quickly or slowly. He may remain in view for a long time before he does finally “depart” from view. John says that the heaven disappeared from his view, and then tells us the very slow manner in which it disappeared – “as a scroll when it is rolled together.” The reader of the scroll reads, then rolls, reads, then rolls, reads, then rolls, and continues this process until the writing departs from his view after the final page is read. On the last turning the two rollers come together, at which time the writing completely disappears from his view.

In figure 13 you can see the likeness of a Hebrew scroll. If, while you were reading the scroll, it was slowly rolled together, then it could be truly stated that the writing departed from your view, “as a scroll when it is rolled together.” In his vision John looked up into what the Hebrews considered the heavens and, as he watched, all the heavenly bodies slowly disappeared over a period of time. This is exactly what will occur during the period of time we identify as the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period. It will occur like the slow rolling together of a scroll, such that by the end of the Tribulation Period

a continuous cloud band of smoke will completely engulf the earth in the lower section of the stratosphere. No one will be able to see the sun, moon, or stars through the thick shroud for about five months before the Battle of Armageddon. It is through the great stratospheric cloud, shown in figure 14, that the author believes the Lord shall return at the end of the Tribulation Period.

Ash from Iceland volcano disrupts European flights

Associated Press Writer= LONDON (AP) — Ash clouds drifting from Iceland’s spewing volcano disrupted air traffic across Northern Europe on Thursday as airports shut down and carriers canceled hundreds of flights in Britain, Ireland and the Nordic countries.

In Iceland, hundreds have fled from floodwaters rising since the volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month. As water gushed down the mountainside, rivers had risen by up to 10 feet (3 meters) by Wednesday night.

The volcano was sending up smoke and ash that posed “a significant safety threat to aircraft,” Britain’s National Air Traffic Service said, as visibility is compromised and debris can get sucked into airplane engines.

In Britain, flights were suspended in the English cities of Manchester and Birmingham, as well as in Northern Ireland’s Belfast and the Scottish airports at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Europe’s busiest airport — London’s Heathrow — had at least 150 flights canceled, while London’s Gatwick airport had 138 canceled by 8 a.m. (0700 GMT).

Most of the cancellations involved flights to and from northern airports.

“I think I might cry,” said Ann Cochrane, 58, of Toronto, one of the passengers stranded in Glasgow.

“I just wish I was on a beach in Mexico.”

In northern Sweden all air traffic was suspended, affecting the cities of Skelleftea, Lulea, Kiruna and Hemavan, the national aviation authority said.

Air traffic in northern Finland was also halted.

Norway’s King Harald V and Queen Sonja — who had planned to fly Thursday to Copenhagen for the Danish queen’s 70th birthday — were looking to take a “car, boat or train” after the Norwegian airport operator Avinor said it was closing all commercial airspace, royal family spokesman Sven Gjeruldsen said.

A canceled trans-Atlantic flight left Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg grounded in New York, where he had been meeting with Norwegian businessmen.

Ireland’s low-cost airline Ryanair canceled all of its flights in and out of Britain through Thursday, but said it would try to operate some flights out of southern Ireland.

The national carrier, Aer Lingus, canceled at least 40 flights in or out of Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Belfast.

Emirates airline said it canceled 10 roundtrip flights between Dubai and Britain on Thursday because of the ash cloud.

The U.S. Geological Survey said about 100 encounters of aircraft with volcanic ash were documented from 1983 to 2000; in some cases engines shut down briefly after sucking in volcanic debris, but there have been no fatal incidents.

In 1989, a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 747 flew into an ash cloud from Alaska’s Redoubt volcano and lost all power, dropping from 25,000 feet to 12,000 feet (7,500 meters to 3,600) before the crew could get the engines restarted.

The plane landed safely.

In another incident in the 1980s, a British Airways 747 flew into a dust cloud and the grit sandblasted the windscreen. The pilot had to stand and look out a side window to land safely.

Volcanic ash is formed from explosive eruptions. Particles as hard as a knife blade range in size from as small as 0.001 millimeters (1/25,000 inch) to 2 millimeters (1/12 inch), the Geological Survey says.

Ash can melt in the heat of an aircraft engine and then solidify again, disrupting the mechanics, the agency says.

LONDON — An ash cloud from Iceland’s spewing volcano halted air traffic across a wide swathe of Europe on Thursday, grounding planes on a scale unseen since the 2001 terror attacks as authorities stopped all flights over Britain, Ireland and the Nordic countries.

Thousands of flights were canceled, stranding tens of thousands of passengers, and officials said it was not clear when it would be safe enough to fly again.

In a sobering comment, one scientist in Iceland said the ejection of volcanic ash — and therefore possible disruptions in air travel — could continue for days or even weeks.

With the cloud drifting south and east across Britain, the country’s air traffic service banned all non-emergency flights until at least 7 a.m. (0600GMT, 2 a.m. EDT) Friday. Irish authorities closed their air space for at least eight hours, and aviation authorities in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland took similar precautions.

The move shut down London’s five m ajor

airports including Heathrow, a major trans-Atlantic hub that handles over 1,200 flights and 180,000 passengers per day. Airport shutdowns and flight cancellations spread across Europe — to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland — and the effects reverberated worldwide.

Airlines in the United States were canceling some flights to Europe and delaying others. In Washington, the Federal Aviation Administration said it was working with airlines to try to reroute some flights around the massive ash cloud.

Flights from Asia, Africa and the Middle East to Heathrow and other top European hubs were also put on hold.

The volcano’s smoke and ash poses a threat to aircraft because it can affect visibility, and microscopic debris can get sucked into airplane engines and can cause them to shut down. The plume, which rose to between 20,000 feet and 36,000 feet (6,000 meters and 11,000 meters), lies above the Atlantic Ocean close to the flight paths for most routes from the US east coast to Europe.

It was not the first time air traffic has been halted by a volcano, but such widespread disruption has not been seen the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

‘There hasn’t been a bigger one,’ said William Voss, president of the U.S.-based Flight Safety Foundation, who praised aviation authorities and Eurocontrol, the European air traffic control organization, for closing down airspace. ‘This has prevented airliners wondering about, with their engines flaming out along the way.’

At Heathrow, passengers milled around, looking at closed check-in desks and gazing up at departure boards listing rows of cancellations.

‘It’s so ridiculous it is almost amusing,’ said Cambridge University researcher Rachel Baker, 23, who had planned to meet her American boyfriend in Boston but got no farther than Heathrow.

‘I just wish I was on a beach in Mexico,’ said Ann Cochrane, 58, of Toronto, a passenger stranded in Glasgow.

The National Air Traffic Service said Britain had not halted all flights in its space in living memory, although most flights were grounded after Sept. 11. Heathrow was also closed by fog for two days in 1952.

The volcano still spewed ash and steam Thursday, but the floods had subsided. Some ash was falling on uninhabited areas, but most was being blown by westerly winds toward northern Europe, including Britain, about 1,200 miles (2,000 kilometers) away.

‘It is likely that the production of ash will continue at a comparable level for some days or weeks. But where it disrupts travel, that depends on the weather,’ said Einar Kjartansson, a geophysicist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office. ‘It depends how the wind carries the ash.’

The ash cloud did not disrupt operations at Iceland’s Keflavik airport or caused problems in the capital of Reykjavik, but has affected the southeastern part of the island, said meteorologist Thorsteinn Jonsson. In one area, visibility was reduced to 150 meters.

Tehran: If Iran is attacked, nuclear devices will go off in American cities

This warning, along with an announcement that Iran would join the world’s nuclear club within a month, raised the pitch of Iranian anti-US rhetoric to a new high Tuesday, April 13, as 47 world leaders gathered in Washington for President Barack Obama’s Nuclear Security Summit.

The statement published by Kayhan said: “If the US strikes Iran with nuclear weapons, there are elements which will respond with nuclear blasts in the centers of America’s main cities.” For the first time, DEBKAfile’s military sources report, Tehran indicated the possibility of passing nuclear devices to terrorists capable of striking inside the United States.

Without specifying whether those elements would be Iranian or others, Tehran aimed at the heart of the Nuclear Security Summit by threatening US cities with nuclear terror.

DEBKAfile’s Iranians sources report that Tehran is playing brinkmanship to demonstrate that the Washington summit, from which Iran and North Korea were excluded, failed before it began, because terrorist elements capable of striking inside the US had already acquired nuclear devices for that purpose.

Although Iran has yet to attain operational nuclear arms, our military sources believe it does possess the makings of primitive nuclear devices or “dirty bombs.”

In an interview ahead of the summit, President Obama warned: “If there was ever a detonation in New York City, or London, or Johannesburg, the ramifications… would be devastating.”

In another shot at the summit, Behzad Soltani, deputy director of Iran’s Atomic Commission, announced Tuesday: “Iran will join the world nuclear club within a month in a bid to deter possible attacks on the country.” He added: “No country would even think about attacking Iran once it is in the club.”

The Iranian official’s boast was run by the Fars news agency, published by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Behzadi further pointed to the construction of 360 MW nuclear power plant and a 40 MW research reactor in Iran’s central city of Arak, claiming the projects were 70 percent complete.

This plant is generally believed to have been built to enable Iran to produce weapons-grade plutonium as an alternative weapons fuel to highly-enriched uranium and material for radioactive weapons.

A friend went to hear Charles Krauthammer. He listened with 25 others in a closed room.

What he says here, is NOT 2nd-hand but 1st. The ramifications are staggering for us, our children and their children.

Last Monday was a profound evening, Dr.. Charles Krauthammer spoke to the Center for the American Experiment. He is a brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views. He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post.

The entire room was held spellbound during his talk.

I have summarized his comments, as we are living in uncharted waters economically and internationally.

Summary of his comments:

Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual. He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn’t show his emotions. It’s very hard to know what’s behind the mask. The taking down of the Clinton dynasty was an amazing accomplishment. The Clintons still do not understand what hit them.

Obama was in the perfect place at the perfect time.

Obama has political skills comparable to Reagan and Clinton. He has a way of making you think he’s on your side, agreeing with your position, while doing the opposite. Pay no attention to what he SAYS; rather, watch what he DOES!

Obama has a ruthless quest for power.

He did not come to Washington to make something out of himself, but rather to change everything, including dismantling capitalism. He can’t be straightforward on his ambitions, as the public would not go along.

He has a heavy hand, and wants to level the playing field with income redistribution and punishment to the achievers of society.

He would like to model the USA to Great Britain or Canada .

His three main goals are to control ENERGY, PUBLIC EDUCATION, and NATIONAL HEALTHCARE by the Federal government. He doesn’t care about the auto or financial services industries, but got them as an early bonus. The cap and trade will add costs to everything and stifle growth. Paying for FREE college education is his goal. Most scary is his healthcare program, because if you make it FREE and add 46,000,000 people to a Medicare-type single-payer system, the costs will go through the roof. The only way to control costs is with massive RATIONING of services, like in Canada . God forbid!

He has surrounded himself with mostly far-left academic types. No one around him has ever even run a candy store. But they are going to try and run the auto, financial, banking and other industries. This obviously can’t work in the long run. Obama is not a socialist; rather he’s a far-left secular progressive bent on nothing short of revolution. He ran as a moderate, but will govern from the hard left. Again, watch what he does, not what he says.

Obama doesn’t really see himself as President of the United States , but more as a ruler over the world. He sees himself above it all, trying to orchestrate & coordinate various countries and their agendas. He sees moral equivalency in all cultures. His apology tour in Germany and England was a prime example of how he sees America , as an imperialist nation that has been arrogant, rather than a great noble nation that has at times made errors. This is the first President ever who has chastised our allies and appeased our enemies!

He is now handing out goodies. He hopes that the bill (and pain) will not come due until after he is reelected in 2012.

He would like to blame all problems on Bush from the past, and hopefully his successor in the future. He has a huge ego, and Dr. Krauthammer believes he is a narcissist.

Republicans are in the wilderness for a while, but will emerge strong. Republicans are pining for another Reagan, but there will never be another like him.

Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty & Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party. Newt Gingrich is brilliant, but has baggage. Sarah Palin is sincere and intelligent, but needs to really be seriously boning up on facts and info if she is to be a serious candidate in the future.. We need to return to the party of lower taxes, smaller government, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and state’s rights.

The current level of spending is irresponsible and outrageous. We are spending trillions that we don’t have. This could lead to hyperinflation, depression or worse. No country has ever spent themselves into prosperity. The media is giving Obama, Reid and Pelosi a pass because they love their agenda. But eventually the bill will come due and people will realize the huge bailouts didn’t work, nor will the stimulus package.

These were trillion-dollar payoffs to Obama’s allies, unions and the Congress to placate the left, so he can get support for #4 above.

The election was over in mid-September when Lehman brothers failed, fear and panic swept in, we had an unpopular President, and the war was grinding on indefinitely without a clear outcome. The people are in pain, and the mantra of change caused people to act emotionally. Any Dem would have won this election; it was surprising it was as close as it was.

In 2012, if the unemployment rate is over 10%, Republicans will be swept back into power. If it’s under 8%, the Dems continue to roll.

If it’s between 8-10%, it will be a dogfight. It will all be about the economy. I hope this gets you really thinking about what’s happening in Washington and Congress. There is a left-wing revolution going on, according to Krauthammer, and he encourages us to keep the faith and join the loyal resistance. The work will be hard, but we’re right on most issues and can reclaim our country, before it’s far too late.

The Holocaust can happen again, warns top anti-Semitism scholar

The photograph on the jacket cover of Robert Wistrich’s new book on anti-Semitism shows two fog-shrouded train tracks that careful observers will recognize as leading to Auschwitz. But for Wistrich, one of the world’s leading historians of anti-Semitism, this image is not only a look at the past.

While depicting Auschwitz as the culmination of where extreme Jew-hatred can lead, the photo is also meant to hint at the ubiquitous threat of anti-Semitism – what Wistrich calls a “future of uncertainty.” Indeed, the British-Israeli scholar seems to suggest that while the worst is, perhaps, behind us, there may yet be another genocide just around the corner.

“We are in an era once again where the Jews are facing genocidal threats as a people,” the author of the recently published “A Lethal Obsession: Anti-Semitism from Antiquity to the Global Jihad” said during an interview in his Jerusalem office. “We have not been in that situation for quite a while. And maybe this is the first time since the Shoah that [Jews] feel that this is palpable.”

Wistrich, who heads Hebrew University’s International Center for the Study of Anti-Semitism, a nonpolitical research center, is referring to the threats against Israel emanating from the Muslim world, especially Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. “Sixty-four years after Auschwitz, the politics of genocidal anti-Semitism and the indifference that made it possible are still with us,” he writes at the end of the book.

Yes, Jews said the same thing after Israel’s wars in 1967 and 1973, Wistrich acknowledged.

Yet he maintains the current threat is much more serious: There are people who seek the Jews’ extinction and aren’t shy about their intentions.

“It’s not a matter of speculation, are we interpreting it right or wrong – they say it in such a brazen, open way,” he said. “It cannot be a mistake.”

Wistrich, who is 65 and moved from Britain to Israel in 1980, pays special attention to the first decade of the 21st century. “I think that the graph of anti-Semitism significantly exploded in this period,” in terms of the volume and

the aggressiveness of anti-Jewish hostility, he said. He said his analysis was based on “a substantial amount of data” he accumulated.

Weeks before a Jewish Agency study made headlines earlier this year for calling 2009 the worst year for anti-Semitism since

the end of World War II, Wistrich reached the same conclusion.

(However, Wistrich says it was the worst, in terms of both violent and non-violent incidents, only since 1982, which he said was the first year accurate statistics about anti-Semitic incidents became available.)

No joke

In addition to studying statistics, a historian also “has to have a feeling beyond what is quantitatively analyzable,” he said. Expressing such “feelings” sometimes make Wistrich sound more like a politician or an activist than a scholar. Indeed, while virtually all reviews of “A Lethal Obsession” praised its attention to detail and richness of sources, some have called it sensationalist. One reviewer wrote that the book reminded him of the famous one-liner: “What’s a Jewish telegram? ‘Start worrying: Letter follows.'” But this is no joke for Wistrich, who insists there is indeed good cause for concern.

“We’re way beyond the monitoring phase,” he said. “We have to act, we have to mobilize opinion, we have to enlighten people about the gravity of the threat. The way I see my own contribution here as a scholar is that I have mapped it all out in a way that has never been done before and made the danger crystal-clear.

Nothing is determined, there is no fatality about this unless we close our eyes and shut our eyes. And then indeed, the worst scenario could materialize.”

“A Lethal Obsession” devotes a substantial chunk of its 1,184 pages to global jihad and contemporary expressions of anti-Semitism. Naturally, however, the Holocaust is another central theme of the monumental work, although only two chapters are exclusively devoted to Nazi Germany.

“Probably in as many as in 20 out of 25 chapters, the shadow of Nazism and its different manifestations and legacies – both in an earlier period and the postwar era – and the central themes and metaphors that belong to Nazi anti-Semitism are continuously evoked,” Wistrich explained. “For instance, in the chapters on Muslims and anti-Semitism there are constant parallels, analogies, and also sometimes differences, which are analyzed. The reader is constantly aware [of the Holocaust], in the sense that the cover evokes: There is a menacing cloud, this obscure but rather threatening fog – and of course, we do know it ultimately leads to Auschwitz. But it also may lead into an indefinite and infinite future of uncertainty. That sense of ominous threat is there all the time and it’s inextricably linked with what I call genocidal anti-Semitism, of which the overwhelmingly dominant prototype is Nazism.”

British xenophobia

For Wistrich, anti-Semitism isn’t just a matter of dry theory.

Having grown up in England as the son of Polish immigrants, he says he felt “the brunt of British xenophobia.” He estimates that roughly 90 percent of the teachers in the grammar school he attended in the late 1950s and early 1960s were classic anti-Semites.

“There were two teachers, who, though they fought against Nazi Germany in World War II, were in fact Nazi-like anti-Semites who truly hated the Jewish people,” he recalled.

In the mid-’60s, the climate changed in Britain and it became less accepted to display one’s anti-Semitism in public, Wistrich said. But an anti-Israel movement arose after the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War, “on a larger scale than people realize today.” In 1980, Wistrich left the U.K. and moved to Israel. “I wanted to make my choice a free choice, and not feel like I’m leaving the country because it’s too hot,” he said. “That wasn’t the case in 1980. But I could see enough of what was emerging under the surface.”

Wistrich believes his prediction was right. “In Britain, all the taboos that exist in polite society are long gone when it comes to Israel and the Jews,” he said, adding that anti-Semitic comments are a daily occurrence, “whether it’s at dinner tables, in academia or in the churches.” While politicians are less apt than those less in the public eye to publicly display the same kind of animosity, anti-Semitism is widespread even among political leaders, he said. “When I look at anti-Semitism in Britain, I feel it’s always been underestimated by people outside the country,” said Wistrich. “Having lived with it, I would say it is structurally almost built in to British life and culture.”

Peres: Syria playing double game

Syria talking about peace while handing over Scud missiles to Hezbollah, president tells French PM

Syria is behaving in a duplicitous manner by talking peace while at the same time handing over dangerous weapons to Hezbollah, President Shimon Peres charged in France Tuesday.

In a meeting with French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, Peres said: “Syria is playing a double game – on the one hand it talks peace, yet at the same time it hands over accurate Scud missiles to Hezbollah so that it can threaten Israel.”

Syria’s weapon smuggling and the efforts it makes to boost terror groups are incommensurate with its declarations that it desires peace, Peres said.

“Syria’s real face had been exposed by the weapon smuggling,” he said.

Meanwhile, the French PM said that his country is willing to take part in major economic projects in the region and cooperate with Syria, Jordan and the Palestinians. Turning his attention to the peace process, he added that the gaps between the sides are not too big as to prevent talks from being resumed.

‘Iran threatens world peace’

President Peres is expected to meet with other top French officials and take part in a series of events and ceremonies during his trip to France. At the beginning of his visit, PM Fillon greeted the president warmly and said France was very excited to inaugurate a promenade named after late Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion in Paris.

Referring to the Iranian threat, the French PM said his country is a party to the struggle against Tehran’s nuclear efforts and that decisive positions must be adopted vis-à-vis Iran.

Also addressing the subject, Peres said that the Jewish State, in the wake of the Holocaust, cannot stay indifferent to Iran’s wish to develop nuclear weapons, stressing that such weapons in the hands of a fanatical regime will constitute tangible danger for world peace.

“Had Hitler possessed nuclear weapons, we wouldn’t be sitting here today,” he said.

Exposition of Psalm 91 in the Light of Psalm 110 – Part 8

Having gone through 14 verses of Psalm 91 in Parts 1 through 7, it is apparent this is a Psalm affirming the promises of God that he will deliver his children in his own way and time. We have seen the promise God fulfilled in delivering his only begotten Son from harm until the appointed time of the man Christ Jesus’ death. We have been led back into David’s life and the many times that God delivered him

from harm until the time his death was to occur.

And we are well aware of many examples of other saints in the Old and New Testaments that God protected until it was time for their scheduled appointment with physical death, such as Simeon at Christ’s circumcision, and John on the Isle of Patmos. In all these cases, God delivered them from spiritual harm by demonic forces, men, the elements of nature, fiery furnaces, and now, in verse 13, we see the picture of God protecting his flesh and blood Son from death by acts of the animal and reptilian kingdoms. There are other examples such as Daniel in the Lion’s den, and Jonah in the whale, and David from the animals that threatened his flocks.

The man Christ Jesus made it quite plain that every time he went to his Father in prayer, his Father always answered him, and up until his death on the cross he always delivered

him from physical death.

PSALM 91:14 – Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

I have exposited on verses 1 through 14 in parts 1 to 7. I will continue the exposition of verse 15 in Part 8.

PSALM 91:15 – He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour

him.

PSALM 91:15A – “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him”

God always answered Jesus w hen

he called on him as a man, but he did not always grant his request. Some may consider this as not having answered his prayer, but it is an answer and, as a man Jesus accepted a “no” from his Fa ther as

the correct answer to his prayer. It shows the man Christ Jesus’ fantastic faith in God.

Mark 14:32-42 – And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

[33] And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; [34] And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. [35] And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. [36] And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

[37] And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not t hou watch one

hour? [38] Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. [39] And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. [40] And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. [41] And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. [42] Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

I do not believe it was the horrible physical alone that caused the man Christ Jesus to make this request, I think it was the realization that for the first time since he came into existence as a man in Mary’s womb, he was going to be separated from his Father as a man for three days and three nights.

Luke’s account of this closing episode in the ministry of Jesus does include and additional fact that shows God’s answer to his Son’s prayer.

Luke 22:42-44 – Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. [43] And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. [44] And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

“as” means there were not real drops of blood, but it may well have been they pictured the very real drops of his blood that would trickle down the cross in his great agony.

His shed blood was the blood of the everlasting covenant.

Hebrews 13:11-15 – For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. [12] Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. [13] Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

[14] For here have we no continuing city, but

we seek one to come. [15] By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Hebrews 9:12 – Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Hebrews 10:12-14 – But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; [13] From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

[14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

PSALM 91:15B – I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him,

Throughout his earthly ministry God indwelt him as his heavenly Father, and delivered him from the wiles of the Devil, stoning by men, demons, and the elements of his creation.

And perhaps the greatest deliverance was

the resurrection of his Son from the dead by the same Spirit that indwelled him.

Acts 4:10-12 – Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. [11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

[12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

PSALM 91:15C – “And honour him”

Philippians 2:8-10 – And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Romans 10:13 – For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
