The minor earthquake structural damage experienced on the Temple Mount in the last 200 years is nothing compared to what will happen to it on the sounding of the seventh trumpet in Chapter 11 of the Book of Revelation, just before the vials of God’s wrath begin to be poured out on the earth.

A RISING-QUAKE-TRUMP-JUDGMENT

The earthquake in the northern part of the great African Rift Valley, reported in the Jerusalem Post Article, has served as a gentle reminder to me that, if I am correct in my guesstimate about an Islamic attack against Israel occurring at some point in time between 2010 and 2015, I do not have long to wait for the events of the Blog title to occur in association with the blowing of the seventh trumpet.

REVELATION 11:12-18

A RISING OF TWO

[12] And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

A GREAT EARTHQUAKE

[13] And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. [14] The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

THE LAST TRUMP AND A RISING OF THE SAVED

[15] And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. [16] And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, [17] Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

A JUDGMENT OF THE SAVED

[18] And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

We are approaching the beginning of “the time of Jacob’s trouble,” and can expect a continuing increase in natural disasters as the earth groans in travail as it awaits the visible manifestation of the sons of God. God’s creation was cursed because of man’s sin, and it groans in travail while it awaits the time when God’s sons and daughters will be standing on it, appearing in glorified bodies. Look for more earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis over the next three years, but their frequency during this period cannot be compared with

their acceleration which will occur when the sixth seal is opened in Revelation.

Genesis 3:17 – And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

Romans 8:22 – For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Romans 8:19 – For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

I have been concerned for some time about a situation involving the second coming of Christ.

I suspect most of the world’s believers are waiting for the false peace to come in, so they can be whisked up at the rapture some three and one-half years before the antichrist attacks. Those left behind can then count down the time of peace that is supposed to occur during the so-called first three and one-half years of the tribulation period. The “age of the great prophecy revisionists” was from 1760 to 1900, with the major part of the revisions occurring between 1820 and 1840.

These revisions have created an antichrist out of character with the Scriptures, a rapture before the tribulation period, a period of three and one-half years of peace that is more than three years too long, and the antichrist leading a European army of 10 nations against Israel. I would strongly recommend that you take a look at whole numbered Prophecy Updates 27 to 36, 55 to 58, 62 to 69, 71 to 76, 77A, 77B, 77C, 78A, 82A, and whole numbers 80 to 85. Many preachers have never looked at what was taught in the field of prophecy before 1800. I believe that much of what they taught is more correct than what the revisionists came up with in the 19th century. Most of our prophetic teaching on television today is based on the revisionist teachings of the 19th century.

Many churches today are filled with members who believe that the time of Jacob’s trouble refers strictly to the Jews, the descendants of the man Jacob, to whom God gave the new name of Israel. And many believe God’s judgment is not going to come on the churches of the end times because of their departure from the faith once delivered to the saints. These churches, like the church at Sardis, have not remembered to practice the faith as it was once delivered to the saints, and indeed do possess the name of Christ as their head, who has a name that continues to live forever, but they themselves are dead bodies professing his name, but not following his teachings. They are not “watching” for Christ, but are waiting for signs of a peace treaty to be signed between Israel and a man, who will arise as antichrist to eventually dominate the more than 200 nations that make up the world as we know it today. Since there appears to be no such scenario that could suddenly come to pass in the immediate future, knowing it would take time for such a man to gain the control over all the nations of the world, churches have stopped the practice of “watching” for Christ because the possibility of a sudden arising of antichrist appears to be in the far distant future. I have been told that they believe in the eminent return of Jesus, believing he could appear at any moment, but they believe the rise of antichrist will take time to gain control of the world’s 200 plus nations. So, in reality, they really don’t believe he could come today, and are “watching” for the beginning of scenario that would show the eminence of his coming for the saved. Most of the world’s churches are in the same spiritual fix as the church at Sardis, and when the Lord does come suddenly, they will be caught in the same spiritual condition as the membership of Sardis.

Revelation 3:1-4 – And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. [2] Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. [3] Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. [4] Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

I will openly confess that most of the interpretations I present are based on what most theologians taught before 1742. And, most assuredly, I am acutely aware that they do not agree with the teachings being put forward by the vast majority of prophecy experts of these last days, but I assure you they would be quite orthodox if one compared them with the pre-1742 offerings of prophetic teachers. GEOLOGICAL CHANGES DURING JACOB’S TROUBLE!

Jeremiah 30:7 – Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

[17] When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. [18] I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. [19] I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: [20] That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.

Non-believers do not think this time of Jacob’s Trouble is true, and that there will be no great shaking.

Many believers have taken the fact it has not occurred for more than 2500 years since Jeremiah predicted it, to teach that it is still in the far distant future, and others simply don’t pay any heed at all to it. But it is on our doorsteps!

Luke 21:11,31 – And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. [31] So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

Isaiah 24:1 – Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

Isaiah 2:19 – And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

Isaiah 24:6 – Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

Malachi 4:1 – For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn

them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Currently there are more than five thousand ACTIVE volcanoes operating underwater, some larger than any we have on the earth’s surface. These volcanoes create thermal heating of the oceans which causes accelerated evaporation at the water surfaces, where the air rises and cools at the rate of one degree centigrade for every one hundred meters it is lifted to eventually produce the world’s precipitation patterns. The heating of the ocean generates pressure systems with wind circulations that are driven over the land areas due to the differential in temperature gradients.

In the Pacific Ocean there are some 20,000 volcanic basins, both active and inactive, on the sea floor. Some of these form single mountains, while some join with other volcanoes to form seafloor ridges – The highest rises above the surface of the water as islands which in some cases, form linear groups such as the Hawaiian Islands. Such Island groups are simply the highest summits of ridges. Some of these ridges are more than 1500 miles in length.

During the movement of the tectonic plates between the sixth seal and the seventh vial, these volcanic ridges and underwater volcanoes, both active and inactive, are all going to come alive, and the oceans will be filled with islands lambasted by a fire sent down on them from above by the action of God using his own creation to pass judgment on sinful man. Ezekiel 39:6 – And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

The seas and oceans of the world will be filled with many volcanoes breaking the surface for the first time – they will be filled with new fiery mountains appearing in rapid succession. And it will generate the scenario of the second trumpet’s sounding.

Revelation 8:8,9 – And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; [9] And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. Never in the history of mankind will there be such a catastrophic upheaval in earth’s oceans and seas as will be experienced in the time of Jacob’s trouble. Tsunami will be charging across the oceans and seas of the world as weekly occurrences.

And every ship caught in port will be destroyed. (See Archive Prophecy Updates 204C and 205A)

Luke 21:25,26 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; [26] Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

The time of Jacob’s trouble will end with the appearing of the blessed hope, Christ Jesus.

Daniel 12:1 – And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Luke 21:27-31 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

[28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. [29] And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; [30] When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. [31] So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

I have been told I do not believe in the eminent return of Jesus Christ, but that is simply not true for three reasons. First, I do not know what year the seventh trumpet will sound, and second, I could be wrong in the position I hold on when Christ will return in relation to the period of time known as the tribulation period, and third, all of those before 1742 and after 1742, right up to the moment of his coming, could be wrong. I know he is coming again, so I get up every morning hoping it will be the day of his coming, and try to live my life that day as if it were the day of his coming. I believe that is what he told us to do.

Matthew 24:42 – Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Earthquake felt along Israel’s coast

The earth shook in many parts of Israel at 12:37 p.m. Friday. The quake was felt mainly in coastline cities, including Haifa, Tel Aviv and Nahariya.

The quake, Israel Radio reported, was also felt in Syria and Lebanon. A faded echo of the quake that hit the coast was also felt at the editorial offices of The Jerusalem Post in Jerusalem.

No reports of casualties were received by Magen David Adom offices, but reports that a quake had taken place flooded the hotlines.

“I was sitting in my house in front of the computer when suddenly everything shook. Things fell from the desk. It took my a few seconds to realize this was an earthquake,” a caller told Israel Radio.

The Israeli Seismographic Institute has not yet issued its statement on the tremor’s Richter rating, but earlier this week, a 4.1 quake was felt around the country.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said on its Web site that the quake Friday was 5.3 on the Richter scale and that its epicenter was in Lebanon.

The region is long overdue for an earthquake of epic and potentially catastrophic proportions, scientists say.

A CHARITABLE LOVE REJOICES IN THE TRUTH, NOT IN INIQUITY OR THE PUNISHMENT OF OTHERS FOR INIQUITY.

I Corinthians 13:6 – Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

REJOICETH NOT IN INIQUITY,

We are not to enjoy becoming a part of iniquity or to experience pleasure that others participate in it with us.

Romans 1:32 – Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy

of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Nor or we to love seeing others punished because they choose the wrong path and are judged by God for it.

The love of God in us is not to be glad when we see others go the wrong way, as in the attitude “I told you so,” or “just look at him, I knew it would happen.” Love that enjoys seeing a brother we don’t like go wrong is not the love of God in us, but the pleasure of the flesh in seeing it happen.

The descendants of Esau (Edom), the brother of Jacob (Israel) rejoiced when they saw God use the Babylonians to destroy the city of Jerusalem, and they later paid a terrible price for doing so.

Psalm 137:7 – Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

Jeremiah 49:10,17,18 – But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not. [17] Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof. BUT REJOICETH IN THE TRUTH;

One of the prime indicators that manifests the existence of the love of God transplanted in a man or woman, is an ever growing love for the truth they believe can be found in his inspired word, the Bible. Each new truth that the born again heart discovers in the Bible causes an inner rejoicing like none other in this world, and it shows the individual’s love for the God who gave it and then confirmed it by his Word. The first thing the love of God revealed to me by his Spirit in his Word was how free from the condemnation of God I am eternally set free, and that it is a one way passage from death into eternal life, from which I will never again be placed back under God’s condemnation.

John 8:31,32,36 – Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; [32] And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. [36] If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be

free indeed.

John 5:24 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 7:24 to 8:2 – O wretched man that I am!

It is absolutely amazing how the great majority of our prophetic teaching on the antichrist, and all the events associated with his arrival and departure during the last seven years of the Age of the Gentiles, is based on Daniel 9:27, and the understanding that the three “he’s” in it refer to the antichrist. All of the prevailing positions on the rapture, so widely differing among the brethren, the pre, mid, pre-wrath, post, split, and progressive positions are all based on the three “he’s” being the antichrist. All of our charts and diagrams are based on the antichrist being the three “he’s” in Daniel 9.27, showing two boxes, each one three and one half years in duration, which are supposed to be the final seven years of the Gentile Age.

Daniel 9:27 – And HE shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week HE shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations HE shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

There are times a part of me wishes I had never gone back in time to see what was believed, and what was taught, about the three “he’s” in Daniel 9:27. In all my years of research I have yet to find anyone teaching what is taught today prior to 1742. The first expositors of the Church Age on the Old Testament all held in their writings that the three “he’s” in Daniel 9:27 were Jesus Christ.

The idea that the “he’s” were the antichrist did not appear in any of their writings. Among the best known writers of the first four centuries, who believed the “he’s” were Jesus Christ were: Hippolytus, Clement of Alexander, Julius Africanus, and Eusebius.

The Catholic writers of the Dark Ages continued to state this belief in the Sargis DOAberga document and, in this period, Theodore Beza, Arnold of Villanova, and Pseudo Aquinas all continued to proclaim that the “he’s” were indeed Jesus Christ. I could find no writer among them that identified the “he’s” as referring to antichrist.

In the Protestant Reformation times both Martin Luther and Melanchthon said the “he’s” in Daniel 9:27 were the Christ, not antichrist. Melanchthon dated the 70 weeks of Daniel from the second year of the great Persian king Artaxerxes Longimanus, with 69 weeks to the baptism of Christ, and placed the crucifixion of Christ in the midst of the 70th week, three years after Christ’s baptism. This is the position I hold today. I believe Christ fulfilled the covenant during his ministry in the first part of the last seven years, and we are waiting for the second half to be fulfilled following the attack of antichrist against Israel. Other Reformation writers who held the three “he’s” were Jesus Christ were Georg Nigumus, Johann Funck, Jacques Cappel, John Tillinghast, Joseph Mede, and Heinrich Bullinger. And, once again, I was unable to find a single writer during the Protestant Reformation that identified the “he’s” as the antichrist. I am not saying one did not exist, but I could not find him.

In the Post Reformation period Isaac Newton, Cocceius, Johann Petri, William Wilson, Heinrich Horch, Jahann Bengal, and the Belenburg Bible, all identified the three “he’s” in Daniel 9:27 as being Jesus Christ. And, once again, I could find no writings in this period that stated the “he’s” were the antichrist.

From the Post Reformation period to 1742, I could not find a writer that identified the three “he’s” as being the antichrist. Among American expositors who identified the “he’s” as being Christ were Samuel Langdon, John Davenport, Ephraim Huit, and

Samuel Osgood. Among the Old World expositors, during this period, who held the “he’s” were Christ, were Bishop William Winston, William Hales, Louis Gaussen, Archibald Mason, and Edward Bukersteth.

So, the question I have been forced to address is a very simple one. Were they all wrong up to 1742? Should we have changed the teaching that the three “he’s” refer to Christ, and made them apply to the antichrist? I have made my choice – the old fellows were right, it is Christ! This teaching lasted well into the 20th century, and is still held by a minority in this present century. I was exposed to it as a young man many years ago, and I still believe it. One of the greatest Baptists of history, B.H. Carroll, who was born in the 19th century, carried this teaching into the 20th century. It began to decline in popularity after John Darby began to popularize the Pre-Trib Rapture position in 1827, but was still the majority belief until the publication of the Scofield Reference Bible in 1909, after which it became more and more of a minority belief.

There was a very popular song in my youth titled “What a Difference a Day Makes.” I assure you, that the title I ascribe to Daniel 9:27 is a most profound one – “What a Difference a HE Makes.” Which position is correct? I could care less personally, because I am prepared for either one to be correct. How is that possible

? I both practice, and advocate to the church I pastor, to do the following:

Mark 13:34-37 – For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

[35] Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: [36] Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. [37] And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

I am qualified to be his servant because I was saved by grace through faith so I could walk unto good works!

Ephesians 2:8-10 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

[10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

I am supposed to serve him in good works in his house, in one of his local churches that teaches his truths

I Timothy 3:14,15 – These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: [15] But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

I am supposed to serve him in a church that teaches the truth he taught the first eleven disciples, and to whom he delivered the authority to do so just before his ascension.

Matthew 28:18-20 – And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Amen.

The Lord has assigned me a work to do in a local church at Dardanelle, Arkansas. I am the pastor of that church by his appointment and their accepting it. I feed it and do the work of an evangelist.

I Peter 5:1-4 – The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: [2] Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; [3] Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. [4] And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

II Timothy 4:3-5 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. [5] But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

So, if I am doing what I am supposed to do faithfully in one of Christ’s local churches when he does come, I do not have to be concerned about the time of his coming. I may be killed in a car crash today or die in my sleep at the crack of dawn tomorrow, which are both just a form of early rapture. Do the following daily, and you won’t have to be concerned about the “he’s” in Daniel 9:27, or when the rapture is going to produce the “change.”

I Corinthians 15:51,58 – Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, [58] Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Hebrews 10:21-25 – And having an high priest over the house of God; [22] Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. [23] Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) [24] And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: [25] Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

II Peter 1:4-8 – Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. [5] And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Galatians 6:9 – And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Iran’s Khamenei attacks Israel, seeks Muslim unity

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Thursday Western powers were trying to widen differences between Sunni and Shi’ite Muslims to divert attention from the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

“The enemies of Islam and Muslims want to create discord among Muslims in the world … so having unity is the most important need of the Islamic world,” he said in a meeting with state officials on the occasion of the Prophet Mohammad’s birthday.

Iran is at odds with the West over its nuclear programme which Washington and its allies fear could allow it to acquire atomic weapons, something Tehran says it does not intend to do.

Iran’s Sunni Muslim neighbours, many of which, like Saudi Arabia, have strong ties with the United States, are also wary about Iran’ s nuclear ambition

Khamenei said the West had a deliberate policy of sowing distrust among Muslim nations.

“Unfortunately, despite agreement on the need of defending occupied Islamic territories, the Islamic world has been influenced by the American and British propaganda and plots to create discord among Shi’ites and Sunnis,” he said.

“Bullying powers, America and Britain are fully aware that disunity and discord among Muslim can deviate the Muslims’ public opinion from the important issue of Palestine.”

Opposition to Israel, which sees Iran’s nuclear programme as a threat to its existence, has been a cornerstone of the Islamic republic since 1979 and Iran backs Palestinian and Lebanese militant groups opposed to peace with the Jewish state.

“The occupation of the holy land of Palestine and the endless brutality of the Zionist regime towards innocent Palestinian people is a big wound in the body of the Islamic world,” Khamenei said, calling Israel a “dangerous and fatal cancer”.

Parts of the speech were carried on state television.

Israel has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to resolve the nuclear row. Iran, the world’s fifth-largest crude exporter, has vowed retaliation for any attack.

Shi’ite Iran sees itself as a leader of the Muslim world, competing for influence with Saudi Arabia, which considers itself as more qualified due to its mainstream Sunni Islam and housing of Islam’s holiest sites

My Search for the First of the Week Position in History!

The Didache or “The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles”

The following extract from “The Apostolic Fathers” by J.B. Lightfoot and J.R. Harmer, as edited and revised by Michael W.

Holmes, provides the historical aspect as to the dating of the Didache.

“The Didache may have been put into its present form as late as 150 AD, though a date considerably closer to the end of the first century seems more probable.

The materials, from which it is composed, however, reflect the state of the church at an even earlier date. In his very thorough commentary J.P. Audet suggests about 70 AD, and he is not likely to be off by more than a decade in either direction.” Later on I will be quoting from it.

I certainly do not believe the Didache to be inspired, but it is an early writing that existed during the time of the Apostolic Fathers, and it does have an outline of what is predicted to occur at the time of the appearance of the antichrist.

I sincerely hope that I have not been offensive to those who hold the pre or mid tribulation period position for the first resurrection by the many articles I have placed on our web site – I assure you it was not my intension. I was born and raised in the northern half of Arkansas, and the preachers of the Baptist churches I attended were not seminary trained. Most of what they taught came from books written by old Baptist writers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. So I was exposed to those teachings in the 1930’s and 40’s. After I was called to preach in 1969, and entered seminary in 1971, I had to take a position to defend myself in the midst of my peers. I did not believe the rapture occurred at the beginning or the absolute end, so I adopted what was called the mid-tribulation position. The “pre-tribbers” did not disassociate themselves from me, and the “last of the weekers,” were happy I thought the church would go into part of the tribulation period. Then I started lecturing in hundreds of churches, and tried to stay off what I believed about the rapture to avoid conflict.

It was mission impossible, but I did try.

In the early eighties, while in east Texas doing a series of lectures, a Pastor who I dearly loved, after he had heard me mention my position, took me aside into his office and, in a very nice way, showed me Revelation 11:18, and asked me what I believed about it, saying I could get back to him later on it.

He was trying to help me, and I appreciated it, and always will, but I knew why he showed it to me. And, Oh my, did it bring back a lot of the memories of my early teachings in the 30’s and 40’s. I will always be grateful to him, because it eventually caused me to stop being concerned about what people thought, and to be concerned about what Christ would say to me at his judgment. He knew what he was doing, but he didn’t know I knew what he was doing. I owe him a great debt. It was then that I began to be convicted to preach what I really believed without regard to maintaining acceptability with the brethren.

I have been presenting what is known as the pre-wrath seventh trumpet rapture at the church where I pastor for some 23 years, but it was the early nineties before I overcame my spiritual cowardice sufficiently to began to present what I believed about the seventh trumpet rapture to other churches.

And although I do not think the aforementioned Texas pastor believes what I believe about Daniel 9:27, his asking me what I believed about Revelation 11:18, also gave me the courage to openly present what I have long believed concerning it in the late nineties.

The first teachings of the first of the week position were met with a steady barrage of opposition by books and articles written by the orthodox theologians of that time, but by the middle of the nineteenth century they had shown a significant drop in number,

and by 1900 were down to a trickle. It was Dr.

Scofield’s study Bible that stopped even the trickle after it came out in 1909.

The reason I have reiterated all this to you now, as I have in the past, is to tell you that I am very concerned about the state of confusion I believe will exist when Israel is eventually attacked, whenever it may be, and a lot of people will be wondering why the rapture has not occurred.

I have studied diligently the writings of those who hold the first of the week position, but I find no evidence of it existing before 1740. And I have read, and considered, the articles they have written since the revival of books, challenging their position, began to be written again in any great number in the 1970’s. In the very small number of quotes

they have used from the age of the early church fathers, I have gone back and examined the context of where each was quoted, and in every case found it to be quoted out of context. I have studied the early church fathers and find no quote in context that refers to a first of the week position. But I will give you one from the Didache, and it does seen to indicate a seventh trumpet position, as opposed to a rapture catching out all the saved at the beginning of the tribulation period. Its context is set in a discourse involving the antichrist appearing as a son of God, and introduces four chronological phases that follow his appearing on the scene.

CHRONOLOGICAL PHASE ONE

Didache 16:5 – Then all humankind will come to the fiery test, and “many will fall away” and perish, but “those who endure” in their faith “will be saved” by the accursed one himself.

1. All of humanity will come to the fiery test of the tribulation.

2. They will all enter into it – Some will fall away from a faith based on religion and works, and not on the sacrificial death of Christ bearing our curse for our not being able to keep the law. (Galatians 3:13 – Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:)

3. True believers, who have faith that Christ himself took all their sins in own body on the tree, being made the “accursed one” for them, will endure in that faith, and will be taken out, saved from God’s wrath, when the seventh trumpet sounds.

(I Peter 2:24 – Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.)

CHRONOLOGICAL PHASE TWO

Didache 16:6 – And then will appear the signs of the truth: first the sign of the opening in heaven, then the sound of a trumpet, and third, the resurrection of the dead.

I Thessalonians 4;16,17 – For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

CHRONOLOGICAL PHASE THREE

Didache 16:7 – But not of all, rather, as it has been said, “The Lord will come, and all his saints with him.”

The writer points out that this is not what the old timers called a “general resurrection,” because many are left behind when the seventh trumpet sounds.

The writer is quick to point out that the saints will return with Jesus after the seven vials of wrath have been poured out.

I Thessalonians 5:9 – For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Revelation 16:1 – And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

Luke 21:25,26 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; [26] Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

CHRONOLOGICAL PHASE FOUR

Didache 16:8 – Then the world “will see the Lord coming upon the clouds of heaven.”

Luke 21:27 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Revelation 1:7 – Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Acts 1:9-13 – And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. [10] And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; [11] Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven

? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Revelation 11:15,18 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
