Jerusalem Earthquake Damage Greatest at Temple Mount

A survey, commissioned by the Jerusalem municipality three years ago, has just been concluded. It was initiated by city engineer Uri Sheerit, at a cost pf NIS 400,000, to help draw up the city’s future construction plans, and was carried out by the Israel Geological Institution. This was the first such survey conducted for the city of Jerusalem in modern times and gave clear evidence the Temple Mount at the Old City would be the worst hit in Jerusalem. The old city itself with its underground caves and tunnels, and a north- south

fault scarp just west of the Wailing Wall, is the most unstable zone in the environ. Among the other neighborhoods that were described as high risk areas are the city’s southeastern regions extending into the old city of David, including Emek Refaim, Abu Tor, Bakaa, and East Talpiot. Several Arab villages on the outskirts of the city were also included in the danger zones. The survey indicated that the Temple Mount and its surrounding area have “a highly sensitive geological location, as well as problematic infrastructure that could destabilize the land during an earthquake.” (See Birth Pangs Figures 41 to 49 and Birth Pangs 24 to 27 in Archives on Menu)

There was a major earthquake in Jerusalem in the days of King Uzziah that burned a vivid remembrance in the minds

of Israelis for hundreds of years, the earthquake recalled dramatically with the warning of another future major earthquake by Zechariah in the Old Testament.

Zechariah 14:5 – And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

And there was an earthquake of less intensity than that of Uzziah’s day when Christ was crucified, which was associated with the ripping of the veil

of the temple from the top to the bottom, forever opening the way into the holy of holies, into the presence of God, by the crucifixion of his Son for the sins of all who would believe in him as the propitiation for their sins.

Some five major earthquakes have occurred in the Jerusalem environs since the resurrection of Christ.

The last large earthquake in the area was in 1927, when a magnitude 6.3 quake struck Jericho and the Jordan River valley. The Jordan River was dammed up for several hours at the Biblical location of Adam by landslides in the upper Jordan during this cycle of shakings. This is likely when the cracks in the Al-Aksa Mosque compound’s outer wall occurred, which some researchers claim is in danger of collapsing. Thi s ea

rthquake also damaged the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is built around a skull-shaped rock outcropping of Cenomanian limestone that most experts believe was where Christ was crucified. Some Israeli scientists have warned that another major quake will strike Jerusalem within the next 50 years.

The Great Rift Valley, which I have surveyed from the western base of Mount Herman in the Golan Heights to the valleys of Ethiopia and the Plains of Kenya, is the major culprit in the production of all earthquakes in Israel. If you will peruse the large number of diagrams we have made available in our Birth Pang Archives, and read Birth Pang Updates 21 to 48, it will give you a very thorough briefing on it. The Great Rift in the earth’s crust runs for 3,000 miles between Syria and Mozambique, and passes on both sides of the Dead Sea, below Jerusalem’s eastern hills. Another fault line runs from the northwest to the southeast beginning at the Port of Haifa, continuing past the Tel of Megiddo (Armageddon), and finally intersecting the Jordan River east of Nablus. It is in this valley the Bible indicates the hottest part of the final battle of Armageddon will be fought.

The researchers used computers to map the subterranean stratigraphy of the Jerusalem environs.

They mapped the topography, geology, soil, and subterranean labyrinth of complex tunnels, caves, and many old cisterns.

The conclusion of the report was that “the Temple Mount at the Old City would be the worst hit part of Jerusalem if a serious earthquake were to strike the capital.” All of the experts are certain that an earthquake of at least the same magnitude as the one that devastated the Iranian city of Bam recently will, sooner or later, hit Israel. The earthquake prediction model for Israel, completed last year, indicates that the rift valley of Israel is due for a big one. The Scriptures also indicate the same thing!

I believe it will not be too long before the dead bodies of the two end time witnesses will lie in the city of Jerusalem, where our Lord was crucified, and that the first of a long series of Jerusalem earthquakes will occur.

Revelation 11:8-13 – And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. [9] And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. [10] And they that dwell up on the earth

shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. The tenth part of Jerusalem that will fall is the section to the east of the N-S scarp bluff fault that lies some 90 yards to the west of the Wailing Wall. This is a weaker structural zone of Turonian limestone than the Cenomanian limestone to the west of the fault scarp. Please check our diagrams in the Birth Pangs Archives on the Menu. This is the same danger area the latest survey identified.

By sheer coincidence Tel Aviv this week has been hosting the International Preparedness and Response to Emergencies and Disasters (IPRED) conference under the auspices of the World Association for Disaster Medicine. IPRED aims to provide a platform for networking and sharing lessons from mass casualty events.

Col. Bella Azaria, in charge of the IDF Home Front medical preparedness on the community level, noted at the conference that in the past year no fewer than 1,500 small earth tremors were registered in northern Israel alone, and that every century or so we expect a major quake which can potentially kill hundreds and maim thousands.

She reminded us that Israel directly flanks the Afro-Syrian fault line, where two tectonic plates rub against each o

ther.

The Dead Sea and Jordan Valley are the physical manifestations of that rift in our country.

Geologists warn us that an above-7-on-the-Richter-Scale quake is probable sometime within the next 50 years. It can happen any day and, if of a particularly destructive magnitude and lethally close, no part of the country would be safe.

Committees aplenty have been set up and compiled detailed recommendations on how to shore up existing structures and prepare for what could come again; bad though it was, the 1927 quake wasn’t the “big one,” the once-in-a-millennium mega-event which experts judge we are due to experience soon.

The last such massive event occurred in 1033.

We are infinitely more densely populated nowadays and hence incomparably more vulnerable.

Turkey Boosts Ties with Lebanon, Syria and Iran

(Israelnationalnews.com) Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri is visiting Turkey to ratify agreements that would scrap visa requirements and strengthen defense cooperation as Ankara tightens its friendship with Israel’s three declared enemies to the north. Turkey and Lebanon also are signing military agreements for training, weapons and exchanging expertise.

Turkey’s continuing warming of relations with Iran, Syria and Lebanon comes as leading Israeli media have criticized Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon for disparaging the Turkish ambassador to Israel.

Ayalon voiced anger at the envoy on Monday over a Turkish soap opera that spread a blood libel against Israel by depicting Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) agents as kidnappers of babies.

Foreign Ministry bureaucrats suggested that Ayalon and Minister Avigdor Lieberman are trying to create a crisis in order to torpedo a planned visit by Defense Minister Ehud Barak to Turkey.

Ankara used to be considered a close friend of Israel, an image that officials of the Labor party, headed by Barak, are trying to maintain. Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, a veteran Labor politician, said last month that there is no diplomatic crisis between the two countries despite harsh statements against Israel by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his ministers.

Erdogan this week castigated Israel for bombing Gaza terrorists, allegedly without provocation, and accused Israel of threatening stability in the world because of its assumed nuclear capability. He said in Lebanon, “Is the Israeli government in favor of peace or not? Gaza was bombed again yesterday.

Why?” Although Gaza terrorists have escalated rocket fire on Israel almost every day the past week, Erdogan stated, “There were no rocket attacks” when the IDF retaliated.

At a joint press conference with Erdogan, Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri declared that Israel is an enemy of Lebanon.

Turkey’s closer military ties with Lebanon follow by two months defense pacts signed with Syria and Iran. Erdogan last October stated that cooperation with the Syria and Iran is important for peace in the Middle East.

During a visit by Erdogan to Iran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised the Turkish Prime Minister for his “clear stance against the Zionist regime.” Turkey also has signed military pacts with Syria and held a joint military drill with its army shortly after canceling the annual military exercise in which Israel participated.

Israel to Turkey: If you want a fight, we’ll fight!

The government removed the gloves on Monday in response to provocative actions and comments coming from Ankara, with the Foreign Ministry slamming Turkey as the last country that can preach morality, and Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon calling in Turkey’s envoy for a dressing down in front of the cameras.

“Israel’s message to Turkey is clear,” one diplomatic official said.

“If you want a fight, we’ll fight.”

“The Foreign Ministry condemns Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s unbridled tongue-lashing,” the m inistry said

in a statement.

“Israel has the full right to defend its citizens from terror and missile attacks from Hamas and Hizbullah. Turkey is the last country that can preach morality to Israel and the IDF.”

The uncharacteristically sharp statement was prompted by a press conference Erdogan held on Monday with visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, during which he accused Israel of threatening peace in the region and using disproportionate force against Palestinians.

Erdogan, who, according to one Israeli official, has made lashing out at Israel his “hobby,” urged Israel to stop violating Lebanon’s airspace and territorial waters. He also called on the UN Security Council to put the same pressure on Israel regarding nuclear arms as it does on Iran.

“We can never remain silent in the face of Israel’s attitude… It has disproportionate power and it is using that at will while refusing to abide by UN resolutions. We can never accept this picture,” Erdogan said. “These steps threaten global peace.

“Those who are warning Iran over nuclear weapons are not making the same warnings to Israel,” Erdogan said. “Five permanent members of the Security Council must be just. Israel has not denied the existence of its nuclear arsenal; on the contrary it has admitted it.”

He also criticized Israel for an air strike in Gaza on Sunday that was prompted by missile and mortar attacks from the Strip.

“What is your excuse this time?” he asked.

Erdogan then used the platform to accuse Israel of using white phosphorus shells in its offensive against Hamas in Gaza last winter.

“No one can claim that phosphorus shells are not weapons of mass destruction,” he said.

In response, the Foreign Ministry said that “Israel shows respect to Turkey and is interested in a continuation of normal relations between the countries, but we expect reciprocity and a similar approach from the Turkish side.”

According to Israeli officials, the decision to issue the statement, and the summoning of the Turkish envoy to Ayalon to hear Israel’s protest over the latest anti-Israeli show on Turkish television, came from Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

“When it comes to human rights and the treatment of minorities, the Turks don’t exactly have a sterling record,” one government official said. “Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

The official pointed out that Lieberman recently told Israel’s diplomats serving abroad that they should not be apologetic or attempt to ingratiate themselves with their host countries to find favor in their eyes. The foreign minister is simply now practicing what he preached, the official said.

Ayalon summoned Turkish Ambassador Oguz Celikkol to the Knesset on Monday to express outrage over a new Turkish television show that depicts Mossad agents as baby-snatchers. He called Celikkol for the meeting before Erdogan made his controversial comments.

Ayalon set the meeting at the Knesset, and not in the Foreign Ministry as is generally the case in these types of situations.

In another break from the diplomatic norm, he invited the press for a photo-op, during which he told the cameramen to film him and his aide sitting on tall chairs, and the Turkish envoy on a lower chair with the Israeli flag in the middle.

Celikkol, according to Turkish sources, did not even know beforehand the reason for the meeting. One official said that the whole episode was an “act of humiliation.”

Ayalon, after the meeting, said he told Celikkol that the television show, “against the background of the very, very anti-Israeli rhetoric by the most senior officials in Turkey, not only harm relations, but also endanger the Jewish community in Turkey, the Israeli diplomats there, to say nothing of the Israeli tourists who visit there.”

According to Ayalon’s office, he told Celikkol the show was “intolerable.”

Celikkol said he would pass on Israel’s protests to Ankara.

Furor over this show follows fast on the heels of another show aired in Turkey in October that depicted IDF soldiers as child-killers.

That show was toned down after the furor caused in Israel by the first episode.

Defense Min ister Ehud Barak, meanwhile,

is scheduled to travel to Turkey on Sunday for meetings with the Turkish foreign and defense ministers, meetings that some diplomatic officials in Israel were skeptical would take place under the circumstances.

A spokesman for Lieberman dismissed as “lies” a report that Israel’s actions regarding Turkey on Monday were motivated by a desire to torpedo Barak’s visit.

Lieberman, the official, did not “invent Erdogan’s statements or the television show.”

Just over a year after IDF Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip, former OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yom Tov Samia on Sunday predicted that another war with Hamas was practically inevitable and would take place in the near future.

“We are before another round in Gaza,” Samia told Army Radio in an interview.

“I am very skeptical about the possibility that Hamas will suddenly surrender or change its ways without being hit much more seriously than it was during Cast Lead.”

Israel must carry out “a more focused strike with long-lasting results” the former commander said, and advised that the in the next war, the army should take control of certain areas in Gaza so that Hamas understands its own actions have lead to this loss.

“We must create a situation in which Hamas runs out of oxygen,” Samia told the radio station.

Samia went on to say that Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas the Fatah movement have virtually no supporters in the Gaza Strip. They are “certainly very weak or almost non existent in the Strip.

For Abu Mazen (Abbas), the best chance at returning to power is taking a serious, significant and critical step that would drive Hamas out of power,” Samia said.

Samia’s remarks came days after OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant warned on Wednesday that the quiet in Israel’s South may be temporary.

“It’s true that we are after the first rains and the sun is shining – but one can see dark clouds in the distance,” Galant said during a tour with heads of regional councils marking a year since Operation Cast Lead.

However, Galant stressed that the IDF was training and preparing to face the trouble ahead, and added that “civilians are rightly preparing themselves for another round of fighting.”

In related news, Hamas on Friday boasted that it had managed to smuggle new types of weapons into the Gaza Strip despite the blockade, and published photographs of some of the arms it allegedly obtained.

Izz al-Din al- Kassam Brigades published photographs of newly acquired weapons including missiles with a double warhead, 107-mm caliber

missiles designed to penetrate fortified structures, and a new type of armor-piercing RPG missile.

Hamas spokesman Abu Ubeida warned that the group has “thousands of fighters and good weapons capable of harming Israel.”

The following phenomena are associated tectonic plate boundary “Rings of Fire.”

Isaiah 29:6 – Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

We sent this out by e-mail yesterday to all on our list when the earthquake occurred. I decided to wait for a better description of the phenomena associated with it before I issued a Blog about it.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE (Reported to those on our e-mail list yesterday)

Haiti lies on the northern border of the Caribbean Sea Tectonic plate finger.

It is a separate tectonic plate that extends off the massive Pacific Tectonic Plate known as the “Ring of Fire.” The plate looks like a bent index finger extending east across extreme southern Mexico just south of the Yucatan Peninsula, between Cuba and Jamaica, across southern Haiti and Puerto Rico, then southeast and south along the Lesser Antilles to Port of Spain, then west along the northern coastline of South America to Panama. The Plate could be referred to as a small offshoot “Ring of Fire” because of the volcanic island forming activity around its periphery.

The following is the latest information we received today from Wikipedia.

The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake centered approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, at 16:53:09 local time (21:53:09 UTC) on Tuesday 12 January 2010. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 mi). The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of aftershocks, twelve of them between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9.

Most of Port-au-Prince’s major landmarks have been significantly damaged or destroyed in the earthquake, including the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince Cathedral and at least one hospital. The United Nations reported that headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), located in the capital, was destroyed and that a large number of UN personnel were unaccounted for (including the Mission’s Chief and family).

Haiti is a poor country, ranked 149th on the Human Development Index (of 182 countries).[ There is concern about the emergency services’ ability to cope with a major disaster, and the country is considered “economically vulnerable” by the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Background

The last time an earthquake of this magnitude hit the south of Hisp

aniola, the island that Haiti shares with the Dominican Republic, was in 1751. MSNBC.com and NBC News reported USGS geophysicist Kristin Marano called it the strongest earthquake since 1770 in what is now Haiti. According to Moreau de Saint-Méry (1750-1819), while “only one masonry building had not collapsed” in Port-au-Prince during the 18 October 1751 earthquake, “the whole city collapsed” during the earthquake of 3 June 1770.

The city of Cap-Haïtien and other cities in the northern part of Haiti and the Dominican Republic were destroyed in an earthquake on 7 May 1842.

In 1946, a magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck the Dominican Republic and also shook Haiti, producing a tsunami that killed 1,790 people.

DeMets and M. Wiggins-Grandison noted that the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault system

could be at the end of its seismic cycle and forecasted a worst case of a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, similar in size to the 1692 Jamaica earthquake. Paul Mann and a group including the 2006 study team presented a hazard assessment of the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault system to the 18th Caribbean Geologic Conference in March 2008, noting the large strain (overall equivalent to a 7.2 Mw earthquake); the team recommended “high priority” historical geologic rupture studies, as the fault was fully locked and had recorded few earthquakes in the preceding 40 years. An article published in Haiti’s Le Matin newspaper in September 2008 cited comments by geologist Patrick Charles that there was a high risk of major seismic activity in Port-au-Prince.

Earthquake details

The earthquake occurred inland, on 12 January 2010, approximately 15 kilometres (10 miles) WSW from Port-au-Prince at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) at 16:53 UTC-5 on the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault system. Strong shaking with intensity VII – IX on the Modified Mercalli scale (MM) was recorded in Port-au-Prince and its suburbs. It was also felt in Cuba (MM III in Guantánamo), Jamaica (MM II in Kingston), Venezuela (MM II in Caracas), and the bordering country of Dominican Republic (MM III in Santo Domingo).

The quake occurred in the vicinity of the northern boundary where the Caribbean tectonic plate shifts eastwards by about 20 mm per year relative to the North American plate. The strike-slip fault system in the region has two branches in Haiti, the Septentrional fault in the north and the Enriquillo-Plaintain Garden fault in the south; seismic data suggests that the January 2010 quake was on the Enriquillo-Plaintain Garden fault, which had been locked solid for 250 years, gathering stress.

The stress would ultimately have been relieved either by a large earthquake or a series of smaller ones. It is reported that the surface along the fault may have been offset in places by a meter or so.

The United States Geological Survey recorded six aftershocks in the two hours after the main earthquake of magnitudes approximately 5.9, 5.5, 5.1, 4.8, 4.5, and 4.5. within the first nine hours 26 aftershocks of magnitude 4.2 or greater were recorded, with twelve of them magnitude 5.0 or greater.

According to a member of the U.S. Geological Survey, based on the strength and location of the quake, about three million people would have been affected. Since the quake occurred under land rather than water, structures and people on the surface were directly exposed to the tremors, particularly since the fault was quite shallow.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning after the quake, but cancelled it shortly afterwards.

Aftermath

The National Palace was destroyed.

The buildings of the finance ministry, ministry of public works, the ministry of communication and culture, the Palace of Justice, the Superior Normal School, the National School of Administration, the Caribbean regional office of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), Parliament, and the Port-au-Prince Cathedral were damaged to varying degrees.

Communications were also seriously disrupted, with a Haitian diplomat saying: “Communication is absolutely impossible… I’ve been trying to call my ministry and I cannot get through.”[30] A hospital in Pétionville, a wealthy suburb of Port-au-Prince, also collapsed from the earthquake.

The headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) – the Christopher Hotel, and offices of the World Bank were destroyed.

Haiti’s Prime Minister reports that “hundreds of thousands” of people have died in the quake. Reports from the country such as estimates of the death toll and infrastructure damages were not expected until daybreak on Wednesday due to the communication problems that have occurred since the earthquake. As of Wednesday, power is still out in the Haitian capital making communication difficult.

Al-Faraeen TV – Self-Proclaimed Media Advisor to Bin Laden: Al-Qaeda Did Not Carry Out 9/11, African Embassy Bombings, or USS Cole Attack

The following are excerpts from interviews with self-professed former media advisor to Al-Qaeda Ayman Al-Fayed, which aired on Al-Faraeen TV on December 20-23, 2009.

Interviewer: We welcome Mr. Ayman, the media advisor of Al-Qaeda.

Interviewer: According to Mr. Ayman Al-Fayed, the Muslim Brotherhood is the “mother organization” of all the militant organizations, and first and foremost, Al-Qaeda.

What you are saying is very serious.

Ayman Al-Fayed: The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is completely different from the Muslim Brotherhood in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Abdallah Azzam, who was a Palestinian with Jordanian citizenship, and who graduated from Al-Azhar and got his Ph.D. in Egypt, was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Osama Bin Laden, known as Abu Abdullah, told me personally that he was a Muslim Brotherhood member.

Interviewer: Do you believe that Al-Qaeda had nothing to do with 9/11?

Ayman Al-Fayed: Absolutely

Interviewer: Do you think that the capabilities of the Al-Qaeda organization are insufficient to carry out something like 9/11?

Ayman Al-Fayed: Absolutely. They do not have such material or military capabilities. In order to carry this out, they would have had to practice at least 3-4 times. President Hosni Mubarak is an experienced pilot. If he himself said that the people who carried out this operation had to practice 5-6 times in advance, this means that this happened in America 5-6 times. Where are the brains of our brothers in the media, who repeat what is said by the deceitful American media?

Interviewer: Why did you leave Al-Qaeda?

Ayman Al-Fayed: There are two Al-Qaedas. Like Brecht said in his play, there is Al-Qaeda and non-Al-Qaeda. There is the Al-Qaeda that developed in a natural manner, and this is what I am talking about when I tell the story of my life with them. But there is also an artificial, imaginary, American-made Al-Qaeda.

Interviewer: What you are saying is that they conceal this demon, and when they feel like it, they pull it out and use it.

Ayman Al-Fayed: This is with regard to their imaginary, false Al-Qaeda.

When they say: “Al-Qaeda strikes here, Al-Qaeda strikes there,” they are referring to the American-made organization.

An American fabrication. They carried out the USS Cole operation in the Aden Bay, and three days after Barack Obama came into office, he said that Muhammed Al-Nashiri, the young Saudi who was at the top of the list for the destruction of the USS Cole was innocent and there was no evidence against him.

Interviewer: So you deny Al-Qaeda’s involvement in the 1998 bombings in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, as well as the USS Cole

Ayman Al-Fayed: Yes.

Interviewer: Al-Qaeda has nothing to do with them?

Ayman Al-Fayed: Nothing whatsoever.

Interviewer: So who carried these out?

Ayman Al-Fayed: The Americans.

Interviewer: How did the Americans do this?

Ayman Al-Fayed: Easily. Is it a problem for them to bomb a building, and get two vital countries in return? Didn’t they do this in 9/11? Prince Nayef, the veteran Saudi interior minister, said the truth. Two months after 9/11 the man said… This is a prince, not someone who can be removed after a while.

This is someone who knows what he is talking about. He said the Arabs and Al-Qaeda were not behind this operation, because they do not have the capabilities. He said it was the Israelis and the Zionists.

On the first anniversary of 9/11, he said it again.

Interviewer: Why do they say this

Ayman Al-Fayed: Unfortunately, when the US does this…

Interviewer: And they pin it on Al-Qaeda.

Ayman Al-Fayed: The fundamental reason is that instead of a national security theory, they have a theory of interests. The only thing they understand is interests – how much they will profit. When they said to their people: Let’s enter World War II, the people said: Why? What do we stand to gain from this war? So they organized the Pearl Harbor operation against American fleet. They knew that the Japanese [were coming]. After the Americans announced an oil embargo, and a freeze on Japanese assets in America, they knew that Japan would die of cold. So they allowed the Japanese fleet to pass through and strike the navy base in Pearl Harbor.

Ayman Al-Fayed: No, he is not.

Interviewer: Ayman Al-Zawahiri is a fraud?

Ayman Al-Fayed: When they claim that Osama did this or Ayman did that, they should produce evidence for 9/11.

Ayman Al-Fayed: Either they were both killed, or else they are being held by the American forces. What I want to tell you…

Islamists loot and burn protestant church in Algeria

Islamists looted and burned a Protestant church in Algeria, the congregation’s leader said Monday, suggesting they were inspired by a recent wave of religious intolerance in the Arab and Muslim world.

The church – hosted in an apartment block in the city of Tizi Ouzou some 100 kilometers (60 miles) east of Algiers, the Algerian capital – was ransacked and set ablaze on Saturday night, several Algerian newspapers said.

The independent El Watan daily published a picture of a smoldering pile of pulpits and desks that had been brought outside for destruction. It quoted the pastor of the local Pentecostal community, Mustapha Krireche, as saying worshippers fled the temple because local police had left a gathering of anti-Christian rioters unchecked.

The congregation was worshipping in the apartment block because it had not received official government approval to operate a church.

Islam’s Global War against Christianity

From Nigeria to Indonesia, Christians are under siege in virtually every single country in the Muslim world, the victims of countless acts of discrimination, depredation, brutality, and murder that are so widespread and systematic that it can rightfully be called the new Holocaust. This time, however, the perpetrators of this Holocaust aren’t wearing swastikas, but kufi skull caps and hijabs.

Some of the oldest Christian communities in the world are subject to relentless attack and teeter on the brink of extinction at the hands of the “Religion of Peace”: Palestinian Christians in Gaza and the West Bank; Assyrian, Syriac and Chaldean Christians in Iraq; Coptic Christians in Egypt; Evangelical and Orthodox Christians in Eastern Ethiopia and Eritrea; Armenian Orthodox Christians in Turkey; and Maronite Christians in Lebanon.
Several of these communities date back to the beginning decades of Christianity and all have weathered wave after wave of Islamic persecution for centuries and more, but in the very near future some will simply cease to exist.

In our lifetime, the only trace of their past existence will be in footnotes in history books (and probably only Western history books at that).

Meanwhile, we in the West hear much from radical Islam’s apologists how the US is engaged in a war against Islam citing of our military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. We are lectured on the inviolability of the Muslim ummah and justifications of defensive jihad.

But an extensive search this past weekend of the websites of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Society of North America, the Islamic Circle of North America, the Muslim American Society, the Muslim Student Association, the Fiqh Council of North America, and the Muslim Public Affairs Committee – the most visible institutional representatives of Islam in America – found not a single mention or reference of the religious persecution of Christians by their Islamic co-religionists, thereby making them tacit co-conspirators in the Final Solution to the Christian problem in the Muslim world.

The global war on Christianity by Islam is so massive in size and scope that it is virtually impossible to describe without trivializing it. Inspired by Muslim Brotherhood ideology and fueled by billions of Wahhabi petrodollars, the religious cleansing of Christians from the Muslim world is continuing at a break-neck pace, as the following recent examples demonstrate.

Iraq: In the current issue of the American Spectator, Doug Bandow observes that centuries of dhimmitude have left Christians in the war-torn country without any means of self-defense.

Washington policymakers have refused to lend assistance for fear of showing partiality, despite the murder of hundreds of Iraqi Christians, the kidnapping and torture of Christian clerics, the repeated bombings of Christian churches, the torching of Christian businesses, and the flight of close to half of the entire Iraqi Christian population since April 2003. Those who remain have been subject to the imposition of shari’a by the Shi’ite Mahdi Army and Sunni militias (al-Qaeda doesn’t bother with such niceties, preferring to murder them immediately instead), including the recent published threat in Mosul of killing one member of every Christian family in that city for Christian women not wearing the hijab and continuing to attend school. (Be sure to remember that the next time an Islamist apologist claims that the hijab is a symbol of women’s liberation.)

Egypt: Journalist Magdi Khalil chronicles in a new report (“Another Black Friday for the Coptic Christians of Egypt”) the campaign of violence directed against Christian Copts almost weekly immediately following Friday afternoon Muslim prayers.

Inspired by Islamist imams preaching religious hatred in mosques all over the country and protected by government officials willing to look the other way, rampaging mobs of Muslims set upon Christians churches, businesses and individuals, from Alexandria to cities all the way up the Nile. Coptic holy days are also favorite times for Muslim violence, which the Egyptian media likes to describe as “sectarian strife” – as if it were actually a two-sided affair.

Gaza: Ethel Fenig recently noted here at American Thinker (“More Gaza Multiculturalism”) the systematic destruction of churches and desecration of Christian religious objects by Jihadia Salafiya following the HAMAS takeover of the Gaza Strip from their Fatah rivals

and the imposition of Islamic rule. The head of Jihadia Salafiya told reporter Aaron Klein that any suspected Christian missionary activity in the area will be “dealt with harshly”. (Ynet News)

Saudi Arabia: According to the Arab News, a Sri Lankan Christian man barely escaped with his life in late May when he was found working in the city of Mecca, Islam’s holiest city, which is officially barred to non-Muslims. In December, an Indian man had been sentenced to death for accidentally entering the city, but was spared after the Indian embassy made an urgent appeal to the Saudi Supreme Court.

Pakistan: In Islamabad, Younis Masih was sentenced last month to death under the country’s frequently invoked blasphemy laws, which were also used against six Christian women suspended from a nursing school after they were accused of desecrating a Quran.

And as protests against Salman Rushdie’s knighthood raged, a Muslim mob armed with guns, axes and sticks attacked Christians worshipping in a Salvation Army church in Bismillahlpur Kanthan. (Associated Press; United Press International; Mission News Network)

Malaysia: Government authorities demolished a church building on June 4th in Orang Asli settlement in Gua Musang in Ulu Kelantan, despite prior government approval of the project. The church was built on donated property after the entire village had converted to Christianity just a few months ago.

Also in late May, the Malaysian high court ruled that Muslims who convert to Christianity must appeal to the religious shari’a courts to officially be deregistered as Muslims and reregistered as a Christians. (Journal Chretien; Associated Press)

Indonesia: Agence France Presse reported last month on an attack by the Islamic Anti-Apostate Movement, who stormed a church service in a Protestant church in the West Java town of Soreang. The AFP report notes that more than 30 churches have been forced to close in West Java and dozens more throughout the country in recent years due to Muslim violence, churches which were among the few spared during the outbreak of hostilities during 1997-1998, where hundreds of Christian churches were burned to the ground and never rebuilt.

Turkey: The Christian community is still reeling from the torture and ritual slaughter of three Protestants at a Christian publishing house in Malatya in April by an armed Islamist gang, which was preceded by the murder last year of Catholic priest Andrea Santoro in Trabzon and the assassination of Armenian journalist Hrant Dink in Istanbul in January. An additional six men allegedly associated with the same Muslim gang were arrested on May 30th for plotting an attack on a Christian pastor in Diyarbakir. (Lebanon Daily Star; ADKNI)

Cyprus: The Cyprus Mail reports that during a meeting last month in Rome the Archbishop of the Cypriot Greek Orthodox Church pleaded with the Vatican Secretary of State for the Pope’s assistance to pressure Turkish authorities in restoring and repairing Christian sites and churches in areas occupied since the invasion of the island nation by Turkey in July 1974 and the ethnic cleansing of 160,000 Greek Christian Cypriots.

Lebanon: More than 60,000 Christians have left the country since last summer’s war between Hezbollah and Israel, fearing the rise of both Sunni and Shi’ite extremism and terrorist activity. The Sunday Telegraph recently revealed the results of a poll finding that at least half of Lebanon’s Maronite community were considering leaving the country. More than 100,000 have already submitted visa applications at foreign embassies.

Algeria: In what is considered one of the more “moderate” Muslim regimes, Al-Quds Al-Arabi announced that the Algerian government has just issued regulations requiring advance permission for non-Muslim public events, following a 2006 law aimed at limiting Christian evangelism in the Kabylia region and the Sahara. Morocco: In the country that The Economist magazine in 2005 anointed “the best Arab democracy”, all Moroccans are considered Muslims at birth and face three years in prison if they attempt to convert. They are also prohibited from entering any of the few churches permitted to operate for the foreign inhabitants of the country. Moroccan Christians must operate covertly for fear of imprisonment by the government and attacks by Islamists. They cannot bury their dead in Christian cemeteries, and they must be married by Islamic authorities or face charges of adultery. Late last year, a 64 year-old German tourist, Sadek Noshi Yassa, was sentenced to six months in jail and fined for missionary activity. (Journal Chretien)

Nigeria: Police in Gombe arrested sixteen suspects after a Muslim mob stoned, stripped, beat, and finally stabbed to death a Christian teacher, Christiana Oluwatoyin Oluwasesin, after she caught a student cheating on an exam in March. Her body was then burned beyond recognition by the mob who falsely accused her of desecrating a Quran. The suspects were released last month without any charges being filed, prompting Christian leaders to accuse government authorities of a cover-up and raising concerns about additional attacks. Eritrea: Just a few weeks ago, the Islamic government installed a new Orthodox Patriarch after they removed the previous Patriarch and placed him under house arrest for no stated reason. Compass News Direct reported in February the death of Magos Solomon Semere, a Christian who had been imprisoned in a military jail for four and a half years for illegal Christian worship, the third Christian to die in government custody since October. Authorities have also cracked down on unapproved churches, jailing at least two thousand Protestants and members of the Medhane Alem Orthodox renewal movement since

the beginning of the year and publicly burning confiscated Bibles. (Christian Post; Compass News Direct ; Journal Chretien)

It is not an exaggeration to say that I could extend this brief list ad infinitum with additional Islamic countries and news items from just the past few weeks’ worth of incidents of violence, discrimination, intimidation and murder targeting Christians in the Muslim world. In many instances, the government and religious authorities in these Muslim countries work hand-in-hand in their campaign of

religious persecution.

A scene in the Academy Award-winning movie Schindler’s List gives us some insight into what is happening all across the Muslim world with respect to Christianity. As the SS Commandant Amon Göth and his Nazi Stormtroopers prepare to liquidate the Jewish ghetto in Krakow,

Poland, Göth (played in the movie by Ralph Fiennes) gives his men a peptalk:

For six centuries there has been a Jewish Krakow. Think about that. By this evening, those six centuries are a rumor. They never happened.

Today is history.

This scene is being repeated in the Friday sermons in mosques and on Islamic satellite TV all over the world, only this time it is the Christians in addition to the Jews who are targets. Great efforts are being made to make the two-thousand year history of Christianity in North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia a blasphemous rumor. Soon students in Turkey will be taught that the Hagia Sophia, the greatest architectural structure in the Muslim world, wasn’t built by the Christian Emperor Justinian in the Sixth Century, but by the Sultan Mehmed II a thousand years later after the Ottomans seized the Byzantine capital. That Christians lived at all in the Muslim world, let alone that much of the territory occupied by Muslims used to be Christian lands before the Islamic Wars of Conquest, will be nothing but a rumor by the end of this century punishable according to the precepts of shari’a.

President Bush announced last week that he will be sending a special envoy to the 57-member Organization of Islamic Countries. Hopefully, the systematic persecution of Christians and other religious minorities will be the first and primary item in the new envoy’s portfolio, with the 2007 annual report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom and the State Department’s Annual Report on International Religious Freedom, which name virtually every single country in the OIC for its human rights abuses and religious cleansing, as evidence for our country’s concern.

The fact remains that not a single Christian or Jew lives in peace in the Muslim world, and if it is truly our nation’s foreign policy to spread democracy around the world, this issue is the perfect topic for us to press. Back at home, raising Islam’s global war on Christianity should be the immediate response to the seemingly endless media grievance machine of radical Islam’s Western apologists.

Until they begin to address the new Holocaust perpetrated in the name of Islam, their complaints and denials are nothing but bald hypocrisy.
