Exposition of Isaiah 61 – Part 3

ISAIAH 61:4 – And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

“They” refers to the Jewish remnant that comes up out of the Negev wilderness after the battle of Armageddon. They will go into the Negev some 3 and ½ years before Armageddon, and remain there until the Armageddon Advent of their Messiah. He will bring peace to the world and they will drive as far north as Hamath

in northern Syria, as far west as the River of Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea, as far South as Kadesh in the south, and as far east as the Euphrates River. Israel will finally claim the land grant promised to Abraham by God

in Genesis 15:18.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman (Israel) fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Micah 5:6,7 – And they (Israel) shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he (Messiah) deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders. [7] And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

Genesis 15:18 – In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

Ezekiel 47:17 – And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

Ezekiel 47:19 – And the south side southward, from Tamar even to

the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.

This great time of millennial planting and rebuilding is mentioned in other parts of Isaiah and by many of the other Old Testament Prophets.

Isaiah 65:21-23 –And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

[22] They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people,

and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. [23] They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.

Amos 9:11-15 – In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: [12] That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the Lord that doeth this. [13] Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. [14] And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. [15] And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled

up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God.

Ezekiel 36:33-38 – Thus saith the Lord God;

In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. [34] And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. [35] And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. [36] Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do it. [37] Thus saith the Lord God; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. [38] As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

Ezekiel 37:23-28 – Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God. [24] And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. [25] And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.

[26] Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. [27] My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people. [28] And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

Ezekiel 39:23-29 – And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. [24] According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them. [25] Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; [26] After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.

[27] When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; [28] Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

[29] Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith

the Lord God.

Isaiah 2:2-4 – And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. [3] And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

[4] And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

The following are excerpts from an interview with Dr. Kifah Al-Ramali of the Gaza Islamic University, which aired on Al-Aqsa TV on December 23, 2009.

Interviewer: “The beauty queen of Palestine – the ideological reality and the Islamic perspective.”

Interviewer: “How can a [Muslim] accept this Arab, his Palestinian, his Muslim sister participating in such contests? Where did these contests come from, and what future do they have

? Why is the Islamic response [to these contests] so inaudible, and why do the Islamic scholars keep silent?”

Dr. Kifah Al-Ramali: “With regard to the issue of the Palestinian beauty queen, if a real study was conducted into where it came from – this [contest], the Miss Universe contests, and so on – I expect [we would find] that it originated from the countries of the West. These enemies are trying to invade the [Islamic] nation. They are invading it ideologically – either by means of arguments and debates, or by imposing destructive notions on [Muslim] society.

That is the most dangerous thing, because society becomes accustomed to these notions. The third type of invasion is military invasion, which has the least influence on us.”

Dr. Kifah Al-Ramali: “The enemies of Allah have studied the mentality of the Muslims, and have studied what harms their religion and their faith. They have studied how to infiltrate our society.

First, they intervened in women’s [issues]. This is because they know that the prophet Muhammad said: ‘The greatest temptation for men is women.’ Women are the greatest temptation. They know what weapon to use to fight [Muslim] society. Allah sowed in men the attraction to women, and vice versa. Then, Islam regulated these matters, according to the shari’a laws. Along came the enemies of Allah, and the most important thing [for them] was to remove the women’s hijab. They removed her hijab, then they removed her modesty, her purity, her sense of shame, and so on. They are doing this step by step.

The enemies of Allah study the mentalities and do not approach any issue before

studying it. If we return to recent history, in the 1960’s and 1970’s, there was no hijab or anything.

Palestinian women would leave half-naked. The Palestinian scene was dominated by Marxist ideology. But with the grace of God, along came the Islamic awakening, and restored women’s modesty and honor.

It is Islam that created this kind of woman.”

Dr. Kifah Al-Ramali: “The real Palestinian beauty queen is the Jihad-fighting mother, the mother who perseveres and endures the siege, the mother who says: We will suffer hunger, but we will not bow down, the mother who sacrificed martyrs and demonstrated forbearance. She is the wife of the martyr, who left her in the prime of life, with her children, yet she says: I will persevere, and I will raise my children to be mujahideen. She is the mother who has lost her husband, her sons, her daughters, her home and her shelter, yet she displays forbearance. She is the queen of the women of the world in its entirety, not just of Palestine.”

Is Israel prepared for the worst?

On Tuesday, the tropical country of Haiti experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale. Statistically speaking, Israel is likely to experience an earthquake of similar magnitude, sometime in the next 50 years.

“We know for certain that it will happen in Israel and we know that as time goes on, the chances of it taking place in our lifetimes is greater,” said Dr. Avi Shapira, the head of the government steering committee for earthquake preparedness.

The last major earthquake to occur in the region was a 6.2 magnitude quake, which took place 100 kilometers south of Eilat in 1995.

The last fatal earthquake took place in 1927 and was also measured at 6.2 in the Richter scale. Nearly 500 people were killed.

Israel’s eastern border runs along one of the world’s seismic hotspots, the Syrian-African rift fault line.

With the average time-span between earthquakes on the same scale in the regions standing at 80 years, geology experts agree that Israel is long overdue for the next major earthquake and that it can happen at any time.

Even with the best available equipment notice will be short.

This poses a significant threat to population centers in the country, since many buildings in Israel were erected prior to the formulation of earthquake-resistant construction codes.

THIS WILL BE THE ENDING OF THE PARADOX IN GREAT TRIBULATION

THIS IS HOW IT WILL BE AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS REIGN ON EARTH

THE PALESTINIAN PARODOX WILL END – OTHER NATIONS WILL NOT HAVE “PERMANENT” DWELLING PLACES IN THE LAND OF ISRAEL

Zechariah 14:21 – Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.

THIS IS HOW IT WILL BE DURING CHRIST’S REIGN ON EARTH

The Palestinian paradox

In spite of Israel’s ongoing dialogue with the United States to search for the right formula for the resumption of talks, the position taken by the Obama administration, and the unfair pressure exerted by the European Union, have brought down the fragile structure which had previously made negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians possible.

Though these negotiations did not bring about the desired peace, they did constitute an agreed channel for discussions between the two parties and brought about, for instance, the Olmert government’s agreement to an American proposal to train Palestinian forces in Jordan under the supervision of Gen. Keith Dayton, thus paving the way for the creation of a regular Palestinian fighting force trained with Western methods.

This was a major concession and a risky one. This force is intended to keep order in Judea and Samaria, but who is to say that it would not turn against Israel under different circumstance

s? Israel has shown a greater willingness in the past year to meet the Palestinians halfway, as exemplified by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s Bar-Ilan speech recognizing the two-state principle.

Then there was the 10-month freeze on West Bank settlements.

HOWEVER, BUOYED by US President Barack Obama’s intense wooing of the Muslim world, the Palestinian Authority has chosen the opposite course, refusing to come back to the negotiation table and launching an all-out diplomatic, media and legal war against the Jewish state. The EU is ratcheting up the pressure, and has issued a declaration calling for a withdrawal to the 1967 borders and for Jerusalem to become the capital of both countries. This would, in effect, render negotiations useless by determining their outcome from the outset.

It is as if the world has forgotten that Israel already made the most extraordinary concessions at Camp David and in Taba.

Yasser Arafat not only turned down the Israeli proposals, he did not make any counter-proposition.

The same scenario played out at Annapolis in 2008. According to a lengthy Al-Jazeera interview with Saeb Erekat on March 27, prime minister Ehud Olmert made even greater concessions, but that was not enough for PA President Mahmoud Abbas: He walked out when Olmert suggested a joint administration of the Temple Mount.

Erekat also said that when US president Bill Clinton told Arafat at Camp David that he would be the first president of a Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital, but that he had to recognize the fact that vestiges of the Temple were buried under the Aksa Mosque and there would have to be joint administration of the Temple Mount, Arafat put an end to the negotiations.

THERE WAS no Israeli denial following these revelations, and recent interviews by Abbas and Olmert support Erekat’s version – though the latest round of negotiations carried out by Olmert and foreign minister Tzipi Livni enjoyed a degree of secrecy rarely seen here. As such, the extent of the concessions the two leaders had been ready to make was kept under wraps – perhaps for fear of the impact on the coming elections.

That was a colossal miscalculation. The Knesset, the country and the world should have been told that the extremely generous terms offered to the Palestinians had been turned down, putting the blame squarely on Abbas. Such a step would have gone a long way to defuse the situation with Obama and his advisers. It seems that the new government led by Netanyahu had not been fully conversant with the details of the failed negotiations and was thus ill prepared to deal with the accusations leveled against it.

Then came the Goldstone Report. The main message there is not so much the totally unfounded accusations of war crimes but an attempt to limit the extent to which Israel is “allowed” to use force to defend itself against terrorist organizations. Such a move was not totally unexpected coming from the UN, especially from the Committee on Human Rights, where Islamic and Arab countries have a decisive voice.

What was not expected was that it would lead, for instance, to the White House asking for “clarifications” following a recent operation in Nablus. (In a confrontation with Israeli security forces, three terrorists who had murdered a father of seven were killed.) This demand, made at the request of the Palestinian Authority, constitutes a dangerous precedent. Coupled with the Goldstone Report, it tends to present a difficult dilemma to the government and to the security forces when contemplating military intervention.

AT THE same time, terrorist organizations, at the behest of some Arab countries, will be able to keep attacking our citizens while sheltering behind their civilians, in hospitals, in schools and in mosques. Hamas and Hizbullah proclaim on every available channel that they will never recognize Israel and will fight until it has disappeared – without causing an international furor.

In fact, Arab organizations, supported by leftist Western groups, are busy getting arrest warrants issued in European countries having relevant legislation against Israeli leaders and army officers for “war crimes,” calling for boycotting Israeli products and demonstrating their support for Gaza.

In each and every successive confrontation, Arab states and Palestinian movements have been defeated. Now they are seeking other ways to harass Israel. They are waging an all-out media war to blacken its image and ultimately delegitimize its very existence. They are helped in this endeavor by hundreds of leftist organizations and civil society movements in the West.

For them Israel is a neo-colonial power, as

is the US. But Israel is easier prey because of its size and isolation.

Anti-Semitism is also at work here. Palestinian and Arab media, with the full support of the Islamic establishment in Arab countries, use every anti-Semitic cliché in the book, and some of that leached into the West where it led to a renewal of classic European anti-Semitism.

Reviled, isolated, the Jewish state is thus facing what is rapidly becoming a strategic threat on its very legitimacy and existence.

Here lies the Palestinian paradox: While Israel has made great efforts to move toward a solution, Palestinian leaders, riding the crest of favorable public opinion in the West, are becoming more and more intransigent – and it is Israel which takes the blame.

British Intelligence has confirmed the chilling boast Christmas Day bomber Umar Abdulmutallab made to investigators after his arrest: that close to 20 other young Muslim men were being prepared in Yemen to use the same technique to blow up airliners.
