US official spokesmen have stepped up their rhetoric against al Qaeda in Yemen but do not have the manpower resources to open another anti-terror warfront in addition to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and to a lesser degree Somalia, DEBKAfile’ s Wa

This inadequacy is cloaked by the heated rhetoric, the closure of the US and British embassies in Sanaa for fear of a terrorist attack, the two governments’ declared intention of establishing a police force to fight al Qaeda in Yemen and a further injection of US counter-terror funding to the Sanaa government, although the chances of its survival – or president Ali Abdullah’s loyalty – are fairly low.

km, almost a third of Yemen’s total area (530,000 sq. km. – slightly smaller than California). No more than a skeleton staff of two or three officers normally mans the US embassy in Sanaa, the ambassador and most of the personnel working out of well-guarded and fortified safe houses. The British embassy diplomatic staff is likewise very small.

Yemen is sunk so deep in three chaotic wars against two insurgencies and al Qaeda that the notion of a police force is risible. So too is for the US to rely on its armed forces to contain al Qaeda.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that for months now, Yemeni armed forces have been staggering from one defeat to another against the Houthi rebels in the north, further undermined by the pullout of Saudi troops last week.

An even more menacing insurgency led by the Southern Engine movement is fighting to separate southern Yemen from the North and declare independence from the strategic Red Sea port of Aden.

Yemen claimed to have carried out two air strikes against al Qaeda hideouts in Shabwa on Dec. 17 and Dec. 24. They were in fact the work of US drones.

The latter attack, which killed 36 al Qaeda high-ups, took place the day before the Detroit-bound airliner was threatened by an al

Qaeda bomber.

The logical conclusion from this sequence of events is that American military action in Yemen had no effect on the plot to blow up an American airliner.

‘Syria will back Hizbullah if Israel attacks’

If Israel were to attack Hizbullah in Lebanon, Syria would respond and not sit idly by, the Katari Al Watan newspaper quoted Syrian sources as saying in a report published Wednesday.

The sources reportedly added that Damascus considered any threat to Lebanon’s security and stability as a threat to Syria’s security.

The paper reported that Damascus was worriedly taking notice of “Israeli deployment and maneuvers along the northern border,” and that Syrian leadership assessed Israel was planning a military operation in Lebanon in May.

US officials have notified the Lebanese government that if it does not manage to unarm Hizbullah, “Israel plans to invade the country all the way to Beirut,” the Syrian sources told the newspaper.

According to Al Watan, the sources said that “this is a message to both Syria and Lebanon.”

On Sunday, a senior Beirut-based Hamas official that his group would work side-by-side with Hizbullah in the next war against Israel, Army Radio reported.

“Israel should know that if it decides to attack, we won’t be able to sit on our hands, and we will assist our brothers against Israeli brutality,” the official said.

He was speaking at a memorial ceremony for two Hamas operatives who were killed in a Beirut explosion some two weeks ago.

One or Two Wars Before Armageddon?

As a young man, living in the pre-Hal Linsey books age, I was taught that only one war occurred during the “latter days” before Armageddon. It was a war that began in the Middle East when the antichrist attacked the nation of Israel, and ended some 3 and ½ years later with the final battle of this age – Armageddon. But I now find myself surrounded by a large array of preachers and teachers who are convinced that the war led by Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal,

and found in Ezekiel 38 and 39, occurs before the war that commences some 3 and ½ years before the battle of Armageddon, and that the antichrist is not Gog, but comes out the war led by Gog, and then leads 10 European Union nations against Israel. They teach that when Gog and his armies come against Israel they will be slaughtered, and that Israel will be absolutely successful in thoroughly routing them.

Perhaps I overlooked it, but in all my years of looking in many old musty religious archives, I never found a manuscript published before 1812 that taught there were two back-to-back wars just before the battle of Armageddon. It would seem to me that the arrival of Napoleon in Europe set the stage for a shift from bringing the antichrist out of the southern flank of the old Roman Empire to a new scheme of bringing him out of the northern flank. This shift necessitated the invention of two wars.

I do not believe the shift should ever have been made.

I believe the attack of the antichrist is found in the following Scriptures, and I believe the attack occurs 1260 days before the end of this age at Armageddon.

There probably are manuscripts before 1812 that indicated two back-to-back wars before Armageddon, but I seriously doubt you will find one before 1740. I did not do as serious and extensive a search on this subject as a I did on Daniel’s 70 Weeks of years and the Rapture.

Ezekiel 38:10,11 – Thus saith the Lord God; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: [11] And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

Daniel 7:24,25 – And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first,

and he shall subdue three kings. [25] And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they sh

all be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Daniel 11:41 – He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

Micah 5:5 – And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation 13:5,6 – And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

[6] And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

Revelation 17:12.13 – And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

[13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

I believe that the following names all apply to the antichrist: He is Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal in Ezekiel 38 and 39, the eleventh horn in Daniel 7, the king of the north in Daniel 11:40, the Assyrian in Micah 5, the seventh wounded head on the beast in Revelation 13, and the eighth head on the beast in Revelation 17.

The 3 and ½ year war in all the accounts follows a certain pattern from start to finish.

(1) The initial attack occurs, and is successful.

(2) After Jerusalem falls, the Lord begins to fight for Israel.

(3) The Lord fights for Israel for 3 and ½ years.

(4) God protects Israel in the Negev during that period.

(5) The Lord leaves most of the enemy bodies on the hills

of Israel at the final battle of Armageddon.

Ezekiel 38:8,9 (1) – After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. [9] Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

Zechariah 13:8 (1) – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Zechariah 14:2,3 (2) – For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. [3] Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

Daniel 7:25 (3) – And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Revelation 12:6 (4) – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Ezekiel 39:1-5 (5) – Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: [2] And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: [3] And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. [4] Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. [5] Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.

Revelation 19:17-21 (5) – And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; [18] That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. [19] And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

[21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Ezekiel 38:1,2 – And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, [2] Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

Gog is a person, the antichrist. Magog is a land, the land of

Magog. God tells Ezekiel to set his face against a person, Gog, and against a land, Magog, which is Russia. Gog is NOT the chief prince of Magog (Russia). He is the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. At the time of Ezekiel’s writings the descendants of Magog were settled in Russia, while the descendants of Meshech and Tubal were settled in Syria. The antichrist will come out of Syria to launch the initial attack. Some 3 and ½ years later Magog (Russia) will come down to join him at Armageddon.

To make a long story short – I believe there is only one war, the war that begins when Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, attacks Israel, and ends three and one-half years later when Magog (Russia), along with all of Europe, Eurasia, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, comes down to join him against Israel at the final battle of Armageddon – Only to find the bodies of their great armies end up as buzzard bait on the hills of Israel.

BUT AM I PREPARED TO BE WRONG? CERTAINLY! WHAT WILL I DO IF THERE ARE TWO WARS? WELL, I WILL JUST SAY I WAS WRONG, AND WAIT FOR ANTICHRIST TO COME OUT OF THE FIRST WAR, THAT IS, IF I AM STILL HERE.

BUT WHAT IF THERE IS ONLY ONE WAR? WELL, ONLY ONE THIRD OF ISRAEL WILL SURVIVE, JERUSALEM WILL FALL, ISRAEL WILL BE DRIVEN INTO THE NEGEV, AND YOU WILL BE WAITING FOR AN ANTICHRIST THAT IS ALREADY ON THE SCENE, THAT IS, IF YOU ARE STILL HERE.

My advice is to be prepared for either eventuality, even one that may be quite different from how many of these verses are commonly interpreted. I think that falls under the category of “watching.”

Syria threatens to take back Golan by force

Syrian officials threatened on Saturday to take back the Golan Heights by force if a peace agreement involving the return of the strategic plateau is not reached with Israel, Army Radio reported.

A group calling itself the Syrian Committee for the Freedom of the Golan said it would take steps to regain control of the territory, adding that Israel has not shown willingness to achieve peace or to return what they called “Syrian land.”

The comments were made at the inauguration ceremony, attended by Syrian President Bashar Assad, for a new communications center in Quneitra.

“The communications center will report on the troubles of Syrian residents residing in the occupied Golan under barbaric and racist Israeli rule,” Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal was quoted as saying at the ceremony, in a reference to Druze in

the Golan who wish to live under Syrian sovereignty.

Last Sunday, Assad rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer to resume peace talks between the two countries from “point zero.”

Assad said the negotiations should resume from the point at which they stopped under former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, when the two sides had planned to formulate mutual commitments that would enable the talks to move to a direct negotiations stage.

The indirect negotiations stopped some six months ago, following Operation Cast Lead, and the announcement of early elections in Israel.

Israel gained control of the Golan Heights during the 1967 Six-Day War. Syria insists that the basis for peace talks with Israel is a full withdrawal from the territory.

Janet Napolitano – former Arizona governor, now overmatched secretary of homeland security – will forever be remembered for having said of the attempt to bring down an airliner over Detroit: “The system worked.” The attacker’s concerned father had warned US authorities about his son’s jihadist tendencies. The would-be bomber paid cash and checked no luggage on a transoceanic flight.

He was nonetheless allowed to fly, and would have killed 288 people in the air alone, save for a faulty detonator and quick actions by a few passengers.

Heck of a job, Brownie.

The reason the country is uneasy about the Obama administration’s response to this attack is a distinct sense of not just incompetence but incomprehension.

From the very beginning, President Barack Obama has relentlessly tried to downplay and deny the nature of the terrorist threat we continue to face.

Napolitano renames terrorism “man-caused disasters.” Obama goes abroad and pledges to cleanse America of its post-9/11 counterterrorist sins. Hence, Guantanamo will close, CIA interrogators will face a special prosecutor and Khalid Sheik Muhammad will bask in a civilian trial in New York – a trifecta of political correctness and image management.

And just to make sure even the dimmest understand, Obama banishes the term “war on terror.” It’s over – that is, if it ever existed.

OBAMA MAY have declared the war over. Unfortunately al-Qaida has not. Which gives new meaning to the term “asymmetric warfare.” And produces linguistic – and logical – oddities that littered Obama’s public pronouncements following the Christmas Day attack. In his first statement, Obama referred to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab as “an isolated extremist.” This is the same president who, after the Fort Hood shooting, warned us “against jumping to conclusions” – code for daring to associate Nidal Hasan’s mass murder with his Islamist ideology. Yet, with Abdulmutallab, Obama jumped immediately to the conclusion, against all existing evidence, that the bomber acted alone.

More jarring still were Obama’s references to the terrorist as a “suspect” who “allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device.” You can hear the echo of FDR: “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – Japanese naval and air force suspects allegedly bombed Pearl Harbor.”

Obama reassured the nation that this “suspect” had been charged. Reassurance? The president should be saying: We have captured an enemy combatant – an illegal combatant under the laws of war: no uniform, direct attack on civilians – and now to prevent future attacks, he is being interrogated regarding information he may have about al-Qaida in Yemen.

Instead, Abdulmutallab is dispatched to some Detroit-area jail and immediately lawyered up.

At which point – surprise! – he stops talking.

This absurdity renders hollow Obama’s declaration that “we will not rest until we find all who were involved.” Once we’ve given Abdulmutallab the right to remain silent, we have gratuitously forfeited our right to find out from him precisely who else was involved, namely those who trained, instructed, armed and sent him.

THIS IS all quite mad even in Obama’s terms. He sends 30,000 troops to fight terror overseas, yet if any terrorists come to attack us here, they are magically transformed from enemy into defendant.

The logic is perverse.

If we find Abdulmutallab in an al-Qaida training camp in Yemen, where he is merely preparing for a terror attack, we snuff him out with a Predator – no judge, no jury, no qualms. But if we catch him in the United States in the very act of mass murder, he instantly acquires protection not just from execution by drone, but even from interrogation.

The president said that this incident highlights “the nature of those who threaten our homeland.

” But the president is constantly denying the nature of those who threaten our homeland.

On Tuesday, he referred five times to Abdulmutallab (and his terrorist ilk) as “extremist(s).” A man who shoots abortion doctors is an extremist. An eco-fanatic who torches logging sites is an extremist.

Abdulmutallab is not one of these. He is a jihadist. And unlike the guys who shoot abortion doctors, jihadists have cells all over the world; they blow up trains in London, nightclubs in Bali and airplanes over Detroit (if they can); and are openly pledged to war on America.

Any government can through laxity let someone slip through the cracks. But a government that refuses to admit that we are at war, indeed, refuses even to name the enemy – jihadist is a word banished from the Obama lexicon – turns laxity into a governing philosophy.

I have been through Israeli boarding security in Tel Aviv on countless occasions. It is far and away the best security system in the world. If I could afford it I would fly only on El Al Airlines. In Tel Aviv they physiologically and psychologically “look” you over, watching your eyes, body movements, voice inflictions, and demeanor as they ask you simple questions. I learned these techniques and use them. You can tell when someone is lying. You don’t have to be a mechanized lie detector to do it. I am delighted to tell you that, like a mechanized lie detector, I sometimes find I was wrong, so I give believers the benefit of my being wrong, and happily go my merry way assuming I was wrong, so as to follow peace with all men.

America needs to get Israeli experts in the system to conduct classes on the methods they use across America. But we are so caught up in political correctness and a bias against racial profiling, I doubt if we would go whole hog on doing it.

In my first Holy Land assignment I mingled and lived with both Sunni and Shiite Muslims.

In many subsequent assignments in USAF IHL’s I went to school with them, trained them, and mingled with them on military installations and federal office buildings, until I retired from the USAF Branch of the National Security Agency in 1971. Before I retired I became certain of two things: (1) The ten horns in Daniel and Revelation will be Islamic countries, and (2) the Antichrist who leads the ten will come out of the Islamic countries, most likely Syria.

I became convinced what I was taught as a teenager was correct, namely that the Antichrist would come out of Islam from a country immediately north of Israel as Daniel’s “king of the north,” most likely Syria. However, I included southeastern Turkey, Lebanon, and northwestern Iraq as possibilities.

Revelation 13:1 – And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

The clear, present and continuing danger posed to Western civilization by the worldwide Islamist terror network cannot be overcome while the American, European and other freedom-loving peoples are neither mobilized nor steeled for the sacrifices ahead.

No serious observer minimizes the perils.

The attack carried out in November at Fort Hood by Nidal Malik Hasan, an American-born Muslim, showed the fatal consequences of not intercepting “ticking bombs.” And the arrests of Najibullah Zazi, David Headley and five young Pakistani-Americans last year in separate plots against America irrefutably established that homegrown jihadists are a threat – just as they are in the UK, Germany and Spain.

While Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab failed to blow up Northwest Flight 253 over Detroit on Christmas Day, this attempted mass murder was only the latest proof that an Islamist terror network, with bases in Africa, Arabia and South Asia, cells just about everywhere else, and a noxious presence on the Internet, sees itself in a relentless state of war with the West.

A RECENT New York Times editorial concluded: “Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen? Americans have a right to feel weary. But the [Abdulmutallab] plot is a warning of why it’s so important to head off full chaos in Yemen. The last thing the world needs is another haven for al-Qaida.”

Indeed. But if Americans are “weary” at this stage of the conflict, it is partly because their leaders – and media

– have not properly framed the nature of the threat.

Neither former president George W. Bush, who spoke mostly of a “war on terror,” nor President Barack Obama, who speaks in terms of “violent extremists” – and no European leader – has had the courage to say that the enemy is global jihad.

The Islamist danger is not primarily rooted geographically – in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Iran or Arabia – but theologically and politically within the larger Muslim civilization.

The only way Westerners can connect the dots – between, say, the devastating attack against Forward Operating Base Chapman near the Pakistani border in Afghanistan (which claimed the lives of seven seasoned CIA anti-terror operatives), and the attempted ax-murder of a cartoonist in the Danish city of Aarhus over the weekend – is for their leaders to plainly say who the enemy is, what they want, and what is at stake if they succeed.

That US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s first reaction to the attack aboard Northwest Flight 253 was to think that it was unconnected to a larger plot, testifies to how hard it will be to change mind-sets. Even Obama’s first reaction was that Abdulmutallab appeared to be an “isolated extremist.”

Yet compared to most other world leaders, Obama is positively Churchillian. He has articulated the right goal: “To disrupt, to dismantle, and defeat the extremists who threaten us…anywhere where they are planning attacks…”

He’s got the metaphysics right: “Evil does exist in the world.” Furthermore, he fully understands the amorphous nature of the enemy, declaring that the “war” is against “a far-reaching network.”

The missing link is naming the enemy. Only then will he be able to talk frankly about how hard – and necessary – it is to find trustworthy Muslim allies.

The murdered CIA agents were likely betrayed by Afghans they trusted. Al-Qaida in Yemen was revived partly when terrorists were freed in a prison break, possibly orchestrated by renegade elements of the Yemeni secret police.

EVEN IF Western leaders did mobilize their societies, the struggle against the Islamist menace would remain wearying. This is an enemy that is often

embedded among civilians and enforces allegiance by beheading those it suspects of disloyalty. Citizens need to know this, to understand why innocent children are sometimes accidentally killed in military operations conducted by allied forces.

Obama needs to tell Americans and Europeans willing to listen that, though the overwhelming majority of Muslims are not terrorists, pretty much all terrorists are Muslim, hence the need for profiling.

An overstretched army, supported by a weary home front, against an ill-defined enemy, does not offer a viable strategy for success.

Better to tell people that the enemy is radical Islam, which wants to spread its religion using the sword, and that defeat would mean an end to Western values of pluralism, minority rights and democracy.

No Holds Barred: The American air farce

I’m sitting at Newark Airport waiting for my wife and nine children to disembark from an aircraft that landed hours ago. They arrived from Chicago, where we all attended a beautiful family wedding. The kids have school tomorrow and would have had a decent night’s sleep, except that some guy wandered backward through an exit and into the secure area of the Continental Airlines terminal, sending the entire airport into lockdown.

(Sometimes I wonder if God is playing a trick by making me the Forrest Gump of current events. How did I ever get into this story?)

My wife is calling me every 10 minutes with an “update”; the pilot will only say they are delayed indefinitely. The entire terminal is being cleared out.

All departing planes are being unloaded and passengers are having to go through security all over again. And all because one guy walked backward through an exit. They’ve scoured the airport and they can’t find him.

How embarrassing.

THIS IS the level of farce that passes for airport security here in the United States. Just over a week ago a Nigerian man sewed explosives into his skivvies and would have blown up hundreds of innocents except that his underwear failed to ignite. The fact that his super-credible banker father had already gone to the American Embassy to warn that his son was an extremist nut wasn’t enough to get his visa revoked or get his name put on a no-fly list. And here we are, just a few days later, and one of New York’s three premiere airports is shut down because a man walked straight through a “secure” exit without being stopped.

Nice to know we’re being protected by the Keystone Kops.

Let’s state the obvious. They can install the most sophisticated machinery. They can X-ray our boxers, they can check for explosives in every bodily orifice, but we’re still not going to be safe; it’s not only people’s bodies but their backgrounds, their nationalities, and especially their eyes.

Israel has the most secure airport in the world. I cannot imagine for a moment that a man with nitroglycerine in his undies would ever have made it on an Israeli plane. And why? Because they would have asked him some simple, direct questions with the purpose of studying his reactions. You’re from Nigeria. You’re going to the US.

Why? How long are you staying? What is your purpose? And where is your return ticket? All along they would be scrutinizing not his bodily bulges but his twitches. What Israel excels at is not even ethnic profiling so much as psychological

profiling.

BUT HOW can we ever hope to study people’s suspicious behavior when Transportation Security Administration agents are wasting their precious time on the most innocent of passengers who don’t fit any kind of terrorist profile? On the way to Chicago last week, my 11-year-old daughter’s backpack somehow merited secondary screening. For 10 minutes a TSA agent performed about seven explosive swab tests on every knickknack a young girl might carry onto a plane. Her reading books seemed to be of particular interest. I could only roll my eyes and pray for patience.

While this went on, approximately 50 adults passed through without any secondary screening because my 11-year-old occupied the agent’s rapt attention. Could this have gotten any more ridiculous?

The answer, unfortunately, is yes. I travel often.

They degree of silliness I have witnessed is staggering. I have seen 70-year-old grandmas with hip replacements being combed by two TSA agents (who knows what those surgeons implanted there!). I once saw an octogenarian with a cane forced to remove his neck brace and have it repeatedly swabbed for explosives.

Good, you say. Terrorists come in many forms.

And if we principally look out for young men from known terrorist countries, the terrorists will quickly adapt and activate their sleeper-agent – Edith from Valley View Retirement Home – to detonate the nitroglycerine hidden in her dentures.

I concede that indeed there have been unsuspecting young female passengers who have been given bombs by their terrorist boyfriends, which is why we have to absolutely check everyone. But airport security is never going to be omniscient, so you need to focus on those who pose the greatest threat.

Richard Reid was a Briton who was half-Jamaican. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is not from the Middle East, but Nigeria. Timothy McVeigh was an American. But these, and nearly every other terrorist bomber, were males of a certain age group. None were 11-year-olds with schoolwork stuffed in their backpacks who happened to be traveling with eight other siblings. Would it not therefore make sense to concentrate on those who most closely fit the terrorist profile, while letting up on the three-year-olds with their toy tractors?

HERE IS where Israel has a unique opening. A country that routinely gets terrible press because of how effectively its enemies portray it as repressive can come to the West’s rescue with sound advice on how to secure air travel. In the process the West will gain a greater understanding of the level of threat Israel is up against. I’m surprised that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has not already given a major address sympathizing with the American people for the intended attack on Christmas Day and offering Israel’s assistance.

Israel, after all, often dispatches humanitarian rescue teams to various parts of the world after an earthquake or tsunami. Why not immediately dispatch a high-level security team to Washington to advise an increasingly hapless Homeland Security Administration about the right way to deploy limited resources in securing a vast air network? I realize that Israel is a tiny country and has to secure only one major airport. But then again, unlike the US, it lives surrounded by terrorists yet has an exemplary record in protecting air travel.

Well, here I am at the end of my column and my family is still stuck on the plane. Aside from the subject matter this unfortunate nuisance has provided, this has been a real hindrance to nine children who have school tomorrow. I can only hope that by the time next week’s column is due I’m not still here waiting for the TSA to find a man who simply waltzed into one of America’s most guarded airports.

“Obama and Israel” was the topic of Caroline Glick’s talk on Friday in the Land of Israel cultural Center in Shdema, Gush Etzion.

More than a hundred people packed the hall in Shdema. They came from Jerusalem, Bet Shemesh, Gush Etzion, Efrat, Kiryat Arba Hevron, Ofra, etc.

According to Glick’s analysis, Obama never liked Israel and nothing Israel will do will change that. The reason is simple. His biography shows that, since his youth, Obama surrounded himself with people that were anti-Semitic, pro-Arab and with a Communist orientation; a surrounding of people that not only deny the right of Israel to exist but that do not like America either.

Netanyahu will never succeed in “finding favor” in the eyes of Obama and his friends and thus Bibi should stop trying to appease and please them.

On the contrary, more and more people in America are very disappointed with Obama and understand he is not the person they thought he was. They are very d isturbed with the fact that clearly Obama does not like America and

is not behaving like a proud patriot. Netanyahu should do all he can to minimize the strength of Obama.

Instead of telling us that relations with Obama are “warming up”, Netanyahu should bypass Obama and directly speak to the people in America, passing on a very clear message that Israel is strong and does not intend to capitulate. A message of strength like that was passed on by Netanyahu in his speech

at the UN in September; a speech that led to an incredible wave of support in America.

Unfortunately, says Glick, after that speech, Bibi went downhill and started caving in.
