The grandfather of a U.S. Army psychi atrist accused of shooting dead 13 people and wounding 30 others

at a base in Texas said on Saturday he found it impossible to believe his grandson had committed the act.

“He is a doctor and loves the U.S.,” Ismail Mustafa Hamad said in an interview at his home in the Palestinian town of al-Bireh. “America made him what he is.”

U.S.-born Major Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, the son of immigrant parents, was shot during the attack and is being held at a hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

“Whether he became angry or something else, I don’t know… What I do know is that it is impossible that he would do something like that,” Hamad, 88, said.

Hasan, who had spent years counseling wounded soldiers, many of whom had lost limbs fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, last visited him in the West Bank some 10 years ago. Hamad said he had since visited his grandson in the United States.

Hamad appeared to rule out a political motive.

“He used to come

to my house, to stay with me and entertain me.

He never took an interest in politics and he didn’t even like watching television,” Hamad said.

Colonel John Rossi, a spokesman at the Fort Hood army base, the biggest military facility in the world, said Hasan was unconscious but in stable condition.

The gunman, with two guns including a semi-automatic weapon, opened fire apparently without warning at Fort Hood base, where troops were getting medical checkups before leaving for foreign deployments.

Hasan was transferred to Fort Hood in April and was to have been deployed to Afghanistan, where the U.S. military is fighting Taliban and al-Qaida.

Hasan’s cousin, Nader Hasan, said in interviews that he had agitated not to be sent overseas. “We’ve known over the last five years that was probably his worst nightmare,” he said.

Nader Hasan also said his cousin had complained, as a Muslim, of harassment by fellow soldiers.

Hasan yelled “Allahu Akbar” – Arabic for “God is Great” – just before the shooting, Chuck Medley, Fort Hood’s director of Emergency Services, said.

(Israelnationalnews.com) The man who pulled the trigger and massacred 13 U.S. army soldiers Thursday and wounded 30 others is the grandson of Arabs from Samaria, a devout Muslim psychiatrist and a U.S. army officer who screamed, “Allah Akbar” (Arabic for Allah is Great) before he fired. The attack ended after he was seriously wounded, and he is in intensive care at an army hospital.

He was identified at Major Nidal Malkik Hasan, whose cousin said became stricter in his devotion to Islam after his mother died nine years ago.

The murder at the Fort Hood, Texas base, the largest in the United States, is the worst Muslim-related attack in the country since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

An aftershock of the massacre is the revelation that many warning signs were clear before he began his shooting spree, and Texas Senator Bailey Hutchinson said that investigators are examining if “there is something more than just one deranged person” involved in the episode. It is not yet known if Hasan was able to gain possession of his two non-military semi-automatic handguns weapons without outside assistance.

Either Hasan or someone with the same name began posting on websites six months ago that suicide bombers might be characterized as soldiers who save their comrades by throwing themselves over grenades. At approximately the same time, he was transferred from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center to Fort Hood

A classmate of Hasan in a master’s program last year described him as “Muslim first and an American second.” One Islamic extremist website has claimed he was hero who “killed no less than 12 Crusade foreigners” and sowed “terror and chaos in the ranks of the enemy.”

Muslims in the United States immediately expressed fears of a backlash.

His grandfather in Al-Bireh, located next to Ramallah in Samaria, told Reuters, “America made him what he is. Whether he became angry or something else, I don’t know.”

I first prepared this Blog in October but, knowing the Iranian expertise in stalling, I decided to hold it for a while until their actions validated my case, and indeed they have done so. If you have kept up with their stalling tactics as long as I have, you know they are quite predictable in their mode of operation. Iran MPs: ‘Shipment of uranium abroad out of the question’

Senior Iranian lawmakers rejected on Saturday any possibility of Teheran shipping uranium abroad for further enrichment, intensifying pressures on the government to reject the UN-backed plan altogether.

Prominent conservative lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran will not ship its low enriched uranium abroad in a single batch or in several shipments, a compromise suggested by some government officials, under any circumstances.

“Nothing will be given of the 1,200 kilograms (of low enriched uranium) … to the other side in exchange for 20 percent enriched fuel, not in one batch nor in several. It is out of question,” the semiofficial ISNA news agency quoted Boroujerdi as saying Saturday.

The UN-brokered plan required Iran to send 1.2 tons (1,100 kilograms) of low -enriched uranium

– around 70 percent of its stockpile – to Russia in one batch by the end of the year, easing concerns the material would be used for a bomb.

After further enrichment in Russia, France would convert the uranium into fuel rods that would be returned to Iran for use in a reactor in Teheran that produces medical isotopes. Fuel rods cannot be further enriched into weapons-grade material.

Boroujerdi added that Iran’s ambassador to the UN nuclear watchdog, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, was currently “in talks to find an approach for the issue.”

Earlier, Iran had indicated that it may agree to send only “part” of its stockpile in several shipments. Should the talks fail to help Iran obtain the fuel from abroad, Iran has threatened to enrich uranium to the higher level needed to power the research reactor itself domestically.

The Teheran research reactor needs uranium enriched to about 20 percent, higher than the 3.5 percent-enriched uranium Iran is producing for a nuclear power plant it plans to build in southwestern Iran. Enriching uranium to even higher levels can produce weapons-grade materials.

The United States and its allies are unlikely to accept anything substantially less than the original plan, which aimed to delay Iran’s potential ability of making nuclear weapons by at least a year by divesting Iran of most of its enriched uranium and returning it as research reactor fuel.

On Saturday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signaled that Moscow could back sanctions against Iran if it fails to take a constructive stance in international talks over its nuclear program.

He told the German magazine Der Spiegel that it would be better to avoid sanctions, but they cannnot be excluded if there is no progress in the talks.

If 70 percent of Iran’s uranium is exported in one shipment – or at the most two shipments in quick succession – Teheran would need about a year to produce enough uranium to again have the stockpile it needs for a weapon.

While the Iranian government is still considering the UN plan, the hardening posture of Iranian lawmakers has raised strong doubts that Teheran will approve the deal.

Another conservative lawmaker, Hossein Naqvi Hosseini, said Iran had three options to procure fuel for its reactor; to buy the fuel from other countries; to accept the UN-brokered plan; or to enrich uranium to a higher level domestically and produce the required fuel itself.

“The countries proposing … are not trusted by the Islamic Republic of Iran because they didn’t carry out their obligations to us in the past. Therefore, the second option is out of question,” ISNA quoted Hosseini as saying.

“Exchange of uranium in return for fuel is out of question,” another conservative lawmaker Ali Aghazadeh was quoted by ISNA as saying.

“We have reached this point ourselves and we need to continue the path ourselves. It is their (US and its allies) obligations to give us fuel. If they fail to do so, we will supply it ourselves.”

Iran has not formally rejected the UN-backed plan outright and Boroujerdi says the Supreme National Security Council, the country’s top security decision-making body, is deliberating over the proposed deal.

Iran has officially asked for more talks on the issue and some hard-liners say they should receive the nuclear fuel first before shipping out the enriched uranium stocks.

UN team unwelcome in Tehran, Mottaki whittles down overseas enrichment plan

26 that the UN inspectors had carried out their mission to visit a newly-disclosed uranium enrichment plant and may leave Iran later in the day. DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources report that the nuclear watchdog team were supposed to have paid a second visit to the Fordu plant near Qom in the next two days

after their first trip on Sunday. So either the Iranians cut the inspectors’ mission short or they were denied access to the suspected facility and aborted.

Earlier, as world powers waited on tenterhooks for Tehran’s reply to the IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei’s overseas enrichment proposal, Iran’s foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki came up with a new offer: “There are two options on the table… either to buy it or give part of our fuel for further processing abroad.”

He said a final Iranian reply would come within days.

DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources report: The idea Mottaki threw out was aimed at seeing how far the Islamic Republic could whittle down the original proposal to send 75 percent of its low-enriched uranium to Russia and France

for conversion into unweaponizable fuel for a research reactor, without giving up its “inalienable right” to enrich its own nuclear material.

Iran was let off the hook of the Friday Oct. 23 deadline for its reply, although the US, France, Russia approved the deal on time. Mottaki took up the slack to try and push the powers and ElBaradei a bit further into accepting the reduction of overseas shipments and licensing Iran to import some more, a suggestion not included in the Elbaradei plan because it would violate UN Security Council Resolutions. In this way, Tehran hoped to let go of only a (negotiable) part of its enriched uranium – and so invalidate President Barack Obama’s plan to lose control of most of the enriched uranium it held in stock that could be used for making a nuclear device.

This new Iranian proposal boils down to a deal to break that stock down into consignments of, say, 100-200 kgs, each to be posted overseas over a period of months or even years.

This was confirmed by MP Boroujerd, the head of parliament’s foreign policy commission, who said: “Because the West has repeatedly violated agreements in the past, Iran should send its low enriched uranium abroad for further processing gradually and in several phases and necessary guarantees should be taken.”

He said this to Iran’s Arabic language al Alam television Monday.

Since Iran is known to produce 3,175 kgs of enriched uranium a day at its overt plant in Natanz, it would need 77 days to produce the 200 kg taken out

of stock for shipping to Russia and France. This is the quantity Tehran proposes to purchase to keep its stock level, refusing under any circumstances to be deprived of a sufficiency of material for producing a nuclear weapon.

Tehran will accept the world powers-IAEA deal only if it can be finagled to meet this fundamental principle – a process Mottaki has kicked off.

How far are the US, Russia and France coordinated on standing up to Tehran’s dickering? Speaking after the Iranian foreign minister, a senior Russian official Sergei Ryabkov urged the exercise of patience with the Islamic Republic: “We should not give the impression that everything has stayed as it was.

On the contrary, we need to give the Iranians positive stimuli.”

ElBaradei whitewashes Iran’s negative response to overseas enrichment

Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Thursday, Oct. 29, submitted Iran’s reply to the IAEA proposal endorsed by world powers providing for Iran to send three-quarters of its low-enriched uranium to Russia and France for conversion into nuclear fuel. Its contents were not released by Tehran or the IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei. Five hours after he received it, ElBaradei produced a formula for airbrushing its negative content: “Iran has provided an ‘initial response’ to a planned international nuclear fuel deal. More consultations were needed.

The Director General is engaged in consultations with the government of Iran as well as all relevant parties, with the hope that agreement on his proposal can be reached soon.”

IAEA director clearly handed Tehran a lifeline by withholding the contents of its response pending further “consultations” – a process Tehran is adept at spinning out forever. He thus helped Iran duck out of the Friday, Oct. 23 for submitting its answer – not once but twice.

DEBKAfile reports that Iran’s reply amounts to one yes and two nos.

The Iranian media reported that Iran would only agree to transfer its enriched uranium overseas in small batches over a period of time. These installments must be replaced by purchases of highly-enriched uranium.

This stratagem would defeat the entire purpose of the deal which is to reduce Iran’s stocks of enriched uranium and delay its progress toward a nuclear weapon.

According to DEBKAfile’s sources, instead of sending three-quarters of its enriched uranium overseas, Tehran is not prepared to ship more than 10 percent in each installment and have it replaced, which means at any given moment, Iran would remain with enough enriched uranium to build a nuclear weapon.

While Mahmoud Ahmadinejad earlier Thursday said his country was “ready to cooperate” with Western powers on a UN-brokered nuclear fuel deal, he stressed it would not give up an iota of its “nuclear rights.” He meant what he said.

Speculation is rife in the US media about whether Army Major Malik Nadal Hasan’s massacre of 13 servicemen at America’s biggest army base, Fort Hood in Texas Thursday, Nov.

5 was motivated by terrorist ideology.

US officials are tightlipped on the question, saying only the investigation will establish the facts. Witnesses among the 28 injured reported that while firing two handguns, he shouted “Alahu Akbar!” before he was felled himself by four bullets by four bullets fired by wounded female police officer Kimberley Munlay.

That morning, he went shopping in Muslim dress.

Friday, Nov. 6, US terrorism task force agents interviewed his relatives, searched his home and seized his computer.

US president Obama promised updates as the inquiry develops and ordered White House and federal buildings to fly flags at half-staff.

Capitol Hill observed a minute’s silence 24 hours after the tragedy.

Born in Virginia to Palestinian parents from Jordan, Major Hasan, 39, is a psychiatrist whom the army put through medical training.

Before Fort Hood, he was posted for six years at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington D.C. He went on his shooting rampage shortly after being informed he would be deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Faizul Khan, a former imam at a mosque he attended at Silver Spring Md. said the major was a lifelong Muslim.

“I got the impression he was a committed soldier,” he said.

On a form filled out by Muslims seeking spouses through the mosque, Hasan listed his nationality as Palestinian although he was born in Virginia.

According to neighbors, Hasan handed round Qurans and his furniture that morning and had taken to wearing “Arab clothing” in recent weeks.

Retired Army Col. Terry Lee, who had worked with the major, told reporters that Hasan had hoped President Barack Obama would pull the army out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Lee said he often got into arguments with soldiers who supported the wars and had tried hard to get his pending deployment cancelled.

The major came to the attention of law enforcement authorities six months ago on suspicion of posting Internet messages equating suicide bombers with soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades. No formal investigation had been opened before the shooting.

President said Thursday night it was hard enough for “our soldiers to die in action in Afghanistan and Iraq, but horrifying for them to come under fire at an army base on American soil.”

According to the Boston Globe by a November 6th report from the Associated Press found in World News, the Base Commander at Fort Hood said that soldiers who witnessed the massacre reported that the gunman shouted “Allahu Akbar” before he opened fire on his prey. Allahu Akbar is Arabic for “God is Great!”

The ten horns of Revelation 13:1 are ten Arab nations who will form the nucleus of the final kingdom, and the ten crowns are the power of the kings that will rile them. For years we have pictured the typical Arab as a scrawny little fellow on a camel in the desert with a comic expression on his face. This viewpoint is quickly changing. Oil is replacing the U.S. dollar in international importance – and soon ten Arab nations will have gained economic control of much of the earth’s wealth. We will not try to stop them because of the Soviet Union – and the Soviet Union will not try to stop them because of us and Red China. The world power block will block itself as the Arab nations prosper in our midst.]”

FORT HOOD, Texas — The base commander at Fort Hood says soldiers who witnessed a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire at the Texas post.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone told NBC’s “Today” show today that suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for “God is great!” before the rampage Thursday that also left 30 people wounded.

Israel accuses Iran of war crime over arms ship

JERUSALEM — Israel’s prime minister charged Thursday that Iran’s goal was to kill as many civilians as possible by giving Hezbollah what the military said were enough weapons to extend any war against Israel for one month.

Benjamin Netanyahu said the shipment of hundreds of tons of weapons on a seized ship Israel contends was bound for the Lebanese guerrilla group was a war crime that should be investigated by the U.N. Security Council. The Iran-backed Hezbollah denied that the arms were bound for them.

“Their goal was … to kill as many civilians as possible,” Netanyahu said of the Iranians.

Israeli naval commandos intercepted the ship Wednesday in waters off Cyprus and discovered hundreds of crates of rockets, missiles, mortars, anti-tank weapons and munitions. Israel claims the weapons came from Iran and were headed for Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon but have not yet provided any proof.

Israeli officials hoped the capture of the ship would help buttress the Jewish state as it fights war crimes allegations at the United Nations on Thursday and seeks crippling global sanctions against Iran.

“This is a war crime that the General Assembly that is meeting today should investigate and discuss.

It is a war crime that the U.N. Security Council should have a special meeting over,” Netanyahu told reporters in Tel Aviv.

“It explicitly violates U.N. Security Council decisions,” Netanyahu added. “It is a war crime that we know the Iranian regime intended for the Hezbollah to carry out after they already fired thousands of rockets at our communities. This is what the international community should focus on especially today.”

But in the Muslim world, officials worried that Israel might use the seizure to divert attention from urgent regional issues.

State-run Iran TV said in a commentary that the “Israeli propaganda” was aimed at diverting attention from allegations of Israeli war crimes during last winter’s war in the Gaza Strip. A Syrian Foreign Ministry official expressed the same view.

Iran’s English-language Press TV said Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki dismissed the allegations on the cargo’s destination and route.

Palestinians worried that Israel would pounce on an excuse to avoid peacemaking.

“Since the Israeli leadership and society are not ready for peace, they are using any pretext to shun peace obligations, and one is the issue of the Iranian shipment,” said Ghassan Khatib, a spokesman for the West Bank-based Palestinian government.

Hezbollah on Thursday denied the weapons were for them. There was no comment from Lebanese officials.

“Hezbollah categorically denies it has any connection with the weapons which the Zionist enemy claims it seized aboard the Francop ship,” Hezbollah said in a statement faxed to The Associated Press in Beirut.

The arms shipment underscored the dangerous tensions between Israel and the Islamic Republic.

Israel considers Iran a strategic threat because of its nuclear program and long-range missile development, and says Tehran is lying when it denies it is building atomic arms.

Iran has never acknowledged giving weapons to Hezbollah, which fought a month long war with Israel in 2006. Proof of large-scale Iranian weapons shipments to its proxy forces on Israel’s borders could reinforce Israeli demands for tough action — possibly even a pre-emptive strike — against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Israeli defense officials said the weapons haul consisted of arms already in Hezbollah’s possession, and would have given the Lebanese guerrilla group the ability to fight a full month longer in the event of a clash with Israel on the scale of the 2006 war.

The presence of Iranian proxies in the Mideast, combined with worries over Tehran’s nuclear program and arsenal of long-range missiles, have made Iran the Jewish state’s most formidable foe.

Neutralizing Iran’s bomb-making ability remains Netanyahu’s top priority — and Israel has not ruled out a military strike against Tehran’s nuclear facilities.

Three o ther descendants which were not mentioned previously as being among

the horde that attacked Israel, namely, Sheba, Dedan, and Tarshish. Sheba and Dedan settled in the land we know as Saudi Arabia, later colonizing across the Red Sea in the horn we know today as Ethiopia. Tarshish is much harder to nail down to a specific location.

The descendants of Tarshish were sea merchants who became the peoples of the Mediterranean Sea coast. The headquarters of the descendants of Tarshish is now generally accepted by most biblical authorities as a district in the south of Spain where the city of Tartessus once existed. The merchants of Tarshish scattered their descendants in village settlements along most of the coastal sections of Europe.

I am persuaded that Europe represents the descendant offspring

of Tarshish.

It is quite possible that God may look upon the rest of Western Civilization as being the offspring (descendants) of Europe (“the young lions thereof”). The countries of the New World became the “melting pot” of Europe. It is very interesting what Saudi Arabia, Europe, and the rest of Western Civilization have to say to Gog about his attack on Israel: “Art thou come to take a spoil? Hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey

When the Antichrist and his armies roar south into Israel in a blitzkrieg lightning strike, the rest of the free world will protest, protest, protest – and do nothing about it. Some 75 days after the war begins there will be a truce (hudna) brokered by the UN, and Israel will find herself in the Negev Wilderness from Beersheba southward to Eilat for some 1260 days.

Saudi Daily: Iran is Expanding its Activity in the Red Sea

On October 31, the Saudi daily Al-Watan published an article about an unprecedented crisis in Yemen-Iran relations, against the backdrop of the continued war between the Yemen government and the Houthi rebels in the Sa’da region of northern Yemen, and the Yemen government’s accusations against Iran for its support for the rebels. The article indicates that apprehension is increasing in Saudi Arabia about the ramifications of Iran’s activity in Yemen and in the Red Sea.

Following are details and excerpts from the article:

“Tehran Aims to Turn Yemen into a Regional Arena for Conflict, as Part of Its Ongoing Dispute with Several Countries in the Region”

According to the article, the Yemen government’s announcement that it had captured an Iranian ship smuggling arms to the Houthis meant that Yemen-Iran relations were at a turning point: “Although Tehran denied reports that an Iranian vessel carrying armor-piercing weapons to the Houthi rebels was captured off the Yemen coast, the incident added a new element to the many that are contributing to the deterioration in Yemen-Iran relations and have led them to [this critical point]. It would seem that San’a’s anger over Iran’s interferences is growing along with the senior Yemen officials’ conviction that Iran is finding more and more way of supporting the Houthis – whether through funds, weapons, or media support.

“Tension reached its peak two weeks ago, when San’a cancelled the Yemen visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, who was coming to discuss relations between the two countries – which have been in a very sensitive condition indeed since the outbreak, 10 weeks ago, of the sixth war between the Yemen military and the Houthis.”

According to Al-Watan, the Yemen government fears that Iran’s support for the Houthis is aimed at undermining stability in Yemen, and at turning the country into an arena for wars – and thus threatening Saudi Arabia. It wrote: “San’a is still using diplomatic [language] regarding Iran’s support for the Houthis, by saying that it is [certain] elements in the Iranian religious establishment that are behind it, and not the Iranian leadership.

But elements who follow Yemen-Iran relations confirm that San’a’s patience has been worn thin by Iran’s interference in its domestic affairs, and that it is not ruling out the possibility that the Houthis have direct contacts with high-ranking Iranian officials.

“These same elements think that by stepping up its interference [in Yemen], Tehran is aiming to turn Yemen into a regional arena for conflict, as part of its ongoing dispute with several countries in the region – thus ratcheting up the tension in this region, which is sensitive in terms of the [Saudi] kingdom’s security.”

Eritrean Oppositionist: The IRGC Is Training Houthi Rebels in Eritrea

The paper said that Yemen’s concern was increasing because of extensive Iranian activity in the Red Sea, which is aimed, among other goals, at equipping and training the Houthis: “San’a fears that there is a great regional plan aimed at turning the Red Sea region, and particularly the area near the Eritrea coast, into an Iranian sphere of influence.

Recently there have been frequent reports regarding Eritrea’s role in the region to secure the supply route for Iranian weapons to the rebels – weapons that arrive in boats that move between the Eritrean coast and the Maydi port in Yemen. This is in light of the [recent] capture of several boats carrying weapons to the Houthis.”

The newspaper quotes Bashir Ishaq, an Eritrean oppositionist in charge of foreign relations for the Eritrean Democratic Alliance; he claimed that “there is a training camp for Houthi-supporting forces, with Iranian support and oversight, in the Dengolo region east of the city of Ginda’ [some 30 km northeast of Asmara, the Eritrean capital].” Ishaq went on to warn against “the dangerous dimensions of the recent Iran-Eritrea cooperation, which constitutes a threat to the general security of the region and its countries.” He added, “Iran has goals and interests that it is striving to achieve, as part of a strategy to expand its influence in the Red Sea region.”

Al-Watan reported that the Yemen government has information that “there are Houthi training camps in Eritrea, and in them there are units of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC); it is assessed that they are training the rebels and equipping them with weapons via the Eritrean port of ‘Asab. [These units] are facilitating rebel movements from ‘Asab port to Maydi port in Yemen – a distance of only a few kilometers.”

It should be noted that following the publication of the report in Al-Watan, Eritrea denied the existence of Iranian-run training camps for the Houthis on its soil, in a statement released by its embassy in Riyadh. It also declared that it had no intention of destabilizing Yemen or the region, and that it maintains strong ties with the other countries on the Red Sea, namely Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Sudan.

Iran is Trying to Gain Control of a Yemen Port

The report further stated that Iran was trying to gain control of a port in Yemen itself, and that it approached the Yemen government with “a request regarding Iranian investments in Maydi port, but the [Yemen] government rejected this request. Likewise, the Yemen media reported that persons close to the [Iranian] regime with links to the Houthis had purchased extensive lands in Maydi on behalf of the Houthi rebels. Moreover, following the capture of an Iranian boat near Maydi, sources in [Yemen’s] Hajjah province reported that the local security authorities had apprehended several of those involved in the smuggling, transfer, and supply of arms to the rebel movement.

“This reinforces the hypothesis concerning Tehran’s involvement in supporting the rebel movement by means of this [port], [located in an area] that has not received much interest on the part of the Yemen [government]. This has motivated the Yemen authorities to step up their security presence in this region, and to reinforce it so as to block any opportunity of support for the Houthis.”

Al-Watan added that sources in Yemen’s Hajjah province “expressed fear that the regions where military forces are not deployed will be used for smuggling arms and funds to the Houthis, particularly after increased traffic had been observed in these regions during the last war – in contrast to the current situation, during a ceasefire…

“One Houthi commander, Sheikh Abdallah Al-Mahdoun, who [had turned himself in], revealed [in October 2009] Iran’s role in fanning the flames of the conflict in Sa’da, acknowledging in a newspaper interview that ‘the Houthis had received unlimited help in arms and supplies, under the oversight of the IRGC and also of experts from Hizbullah.’ He added that ‘rebel leader ‘Abd Al-Malik Al-Houthi had told him that things are going their way,’ and that ‘this is how they will restore the culture of Persia [to its glory], and will not stop at any border.'”
