Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his hard-line supporters are calling for opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi to be tried for sedition after he announced Saturday, Aug. 15, the formation of The Green Path of Hope movement to restore the people’s stolen rights. DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources report that Ahmadinejad is trying to build a puppet government composed of inexperienced, pliant cronies and officials known for their brutality to usher in a takeover of the regime by the Revolutionary Guards.

The two factions are set for a final showdown.

The regime hardliners are bent on smashing the opposition by brute force. Their leaders face trials on charges that carry the death sentence, such as sedition.

Sunday, Aug. 13, a third group of 25 protesters against the disputed presidential election goes on trial before the Revolutionary Court. The first two sessions were blasted as travesties of justice and “show trials.”

Seven leaders of the Baha’i community are also to be tried for allegedly spying for Israel and desecrating Islam.

Although the president has muscled his way past many obstacles, he has been held back from forming by bitter factional strife within the regime, which is reflected in the Majlis, parliament, where the majority refuses to accredit his planned lineup. Many conservatives have turned him down after fired 14 ministers in humiliating circumstances.

The cabinet beginning to emerge now, according to our Iranian sources, is as follows:

The Ministry of Intelligence will go to one of three candidates: Hossein Taeb, commander of the Basijj thugs responsible for abusing opposition demonstrators in recent weeks; Esmail Ahmadi Moghadam, head of the security services, and Mohammad Rouyanian, chief of the Transportation Police, who is known for his brutal methods.

The candidates for Minister of the Interior are Rouhollah Hosseinian, head of the Revolutionary Archive, and Ahmad Reza Radan, deputy commander of the security service. Reza Radan resigned as warden of the Kahrizak prison on the southern edge of Tehran after extreme case of torture and murder were exposed.

Contrary to the official claim, this chamber of horrors is still open and several dozen political detainees continue to suffer abuse.

DEBKAfile carried an exclusive expose of the atrocities suffered by political prisoners in this and six other Iranian prisons.

There is a fierce struggle for the Petroleum Ministry which controls 85 percent of the national foreign exchange income and most of the funding for the regime’s covert military, missile and nuclear programs.

Manouchehr Mottaki may be dropped as Foreign Minister

The Iranian president promises to publish his cabinet in full by Tuesday, August 18, but he still has to overcoming factional infighting and win the support of parliament – and that could take weeks.

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) — A senior official with Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard is calling for the prosecution of two key opposition leaders and a former president, accusing them of fanning the protests that have gripped the nation since its disputed presidential election two months ago.

Opposition leaders Mir Hossein Moussavi and Mehdi Karrubi, along with former reformist President Mohammad Khatami, should be tried for attempting to lead a Western-backed “velvet revolution” that aimed to topple the regime, the official said.

“If Moussavi, Khatami … and Karrubi are the main suspects believed to have been behind the velvet coup in Iran, which they are, we expect the judiciary to go after them, arrest them, put them on trial and punish them according to the law,” said Brigadier General Yadollah Javani.

Javani heads the Guard’s political bureau. The Guard, which was initially created to protect the leaders of the revolution, is under the direct control of Iran’s supreme leader and enforces the governments’ Islamic codes and morality.

His comments were reported Monday by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency.

A day earlier, state-run Press TV reported that lawmakers were working on a complaint to present to the parliament’s National Security Commission to bring Moussavi to trial for fomenting the post-election unrest.

Until now, the government has gone after the protesters themselves in mass trials that have been denounced internationally. Among those appearing in court are two French and British embassy employees and a French citizen.

Iran says many of the defendants have confessed to helping foreign countries — specifically Britain and the United States — “instigate the unrest.”

Moussavi and Khatami have contended the detainees were forced into confessions through torture.

Human rights organizations have also decried the mass trial, calling it a farce and a way to intimidate Iranians who speak out against the government.

Moussavi and Karrubi ran in the presidential election on June 12, in which hardline incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the overwhelming winner.

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians took to the streets to protest, calling the election results fraudulent, and more than 1,000 people were arrested. Iran said at least 30 people were killed in post-election violence.

The two opposition leaders unsuccessfully challenged the results for weeks, and Ahmadinejad was sworn in for his second term last week.

THE INTERNATIONAL JUSTIFICATION BLAME GAME!

WE DID IT BECAUSE THEY ATTACKED US FIRST!

The age of so-called civilized warfare really began in the era of the Napoleonic Wars of 1803 to 1815. And, with the passage of time, it has become increasingly important for the two countries involved in a conflict to convince the rest of the world the other is the culprit who started the conflict. Every time Hitler, in his early conquests, marched his troops into countries to take them over in bloodless battles, he always had an excuse to justify his attacks. Finally, when he came to his planned conquest of the Poles, he could not really find what even remotely seemed like a justifiable reason.

So he manufactured one. He had his own SS troops dress up in Polish uniforms and attack a German border outpost.

Then the SS put dead Polish bodies in the immediate vicinity of the outpost and had photographers and reporters in to verify their story. Using this farce as justification for his actions, he attacked Poland in September of 1939, and World War II began.

Some interesting developments, involving Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and the terrorist groups, particularly Hizbollah, have been occurring along the northern border of Israel with Lebanon. I do not believe what

I am now observing in that area will lead to an immediate war, but I suspect it may well do so in the not too distant future. And, if I am correct in my assumptions, it could give Syria justification for attacking Israel in the eyes of most of the international world.

President Bush has demanded that Syria cut it’s backing for the Hizbollah terrorists that operate along the southern border of Lebanon, and that it expel the other Palestinian terrorist groups it currently has operating out of Syria. Damascus now hosts 10 Palestinian terrorist groups, which include the extremist groups Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. In response to the demands of President Bush, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said: “Syria supports the Lebanese national resistance, including Hizbollah, in resisting Israeli occupation and liberating land.” Concerning the demand that the other terrorist groups in Syria be removed, he said: “Their work is limited to political and media activities, and their offices in Damascus provide political representation to the 400,000 Palestinians who look to attain their rights and return to their land.” Israel has repeatedly warned Syria that if Hizbollah continued its border attacks on Israeli civilians and troops on its northern border, they would start hitting targets in Syria in retaliation. Bashar has responded by saying that Syria would defend itself against any Israeli action. He said: “If the Israeli government involves itself in waging aggression on the territory of Syria, then Syria will defend itself.”

So far Israel’s policy against recent Hizbollah attacks has shown remarkable restraint, probably because of not wanting to open a second front of conflict to the one they now have going in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Even though seven Israeli soldiers were killed by a Hizbollah terrorist team that penetrated the border fence, Israel has held back from violent retaliation. And now Bashar al-Assad has joined with Iran to provide heavier rockets for the Hizbollah arsenal of terror. Israeli officials have watched Hizbollah deploy thousands of new missiles and rockets that are aimed at Israeli civilian population centers.

Once Israel has completed its long buffer zone fence around the West Bank, and beefed up the one it already has around the Gaza Strip, it will become confident it has finally achieved the impossible, it will say it has “peace and safety.” And all the time that it was tied up internally in so doing, Syria, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon will have been slowly slipping troops in position for a lightning Jihad from the north. Israel’s preoccupation with its internal safety is going to cause them to slack off in their gaze on what is going on externally.

During the time that Alexander’s great empire had been divided into four sections, the Syrian section (Seleucid) held Israel some of the time, and the Egyptian section (Ptolemy) held it when they took it from the Syrians. Israel was at times a part of the Egyptian section, at times a part of the Syrian section, and at times a part of both.

Daniel lists a very long series of battles between the king of the north (Syria) and the king of the South (Egypt). Most of Daniel’s prophecies about these two kingdoms were fulfilled by their many kings from Daniel 11:4 through 35, but there remains one war yet to be fulfilled, and I believe it is the aforementioned Jihad that begins in Daniel 11:40. Since Israel was once part of the section occupied by Ptolemy, I am persuaded that Israel is the king of the south and Syria is the king of the north in Daniel 11:40-45.

I suspect that after Israel has lulled itself into a false sense of peace and safety by it’s military might, it will have gained even more confidence in its great ability to take care of any Islamic intrusion. It may well be that Syria will get Hizbollah to kick up a storm of activity along the northern border by launching a massive missile and rocket attack across the border into the populations of northern Israel. Syria will do this knowing that Israel will cross the border into Lebanon and hit Syrian targets from the air. But this time Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran will be waiting for it, and six other Islamic nations will be poised to supply logistical support. The Islamic nations can cry out while they head south: “We were attacked first, we are justified in this response to the Israeli invasion of our sovereign territory.” This will cause a hesitation by the western world at first and, by the time it wakes up, Jerusalem will have fallen, and Israel will be fleeing into the Negev.

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Daniel 11:40 – And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

First comes a time when Israel actually believes it can maintain “peace and safety.” Then a time of false “peace and safety” sets in for a brief period. Then a border incident! Then a response! Then a Jihad, and the last 1260 days of the tribulation period are under way.

The Other View: Winds of War – Israel and Lebanon

The Israeli government has recently threatened that should Hizbullah join Beirut’s incoming government, it would respond to any attack launched by Hizbullah by targeting Lebanon itself. Israel stated that if Hizbullah attacked any Israeli anywhere it was prepared to attack targets on Lebanese soil.

Hizbullah officials stated in response that the organization was even stronger today than at the beginning of the Second Lebanon War in 2006, and that its armed wing was well prepared for any possible confrontation with Israel. The officials also stated that Israel would not dare start a new war with Lebanon since the United States would not support such a move at the current time.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has stated that there are no “winds of war” blowing in the north, only a war of words and media. However, Israeli troop movements and training exercises on the northern border seem to tell a different story.

In reaction, the Lebanese army has moved some of its forces south.

Although both sides claim that there are no winds of war in the north, they seem to be acting just as they did before the 2006 war. Both continue to prepare for the next battle while claiming that nothing serious is going on.

Hizbullah has not yet reacted to the death of Imad Mugniyeh, for which it blames Israel, but continues to state that it is its right to take revenge at any time and place for the assassination of one of its important leaders. The equation is further complicated by Hizbullah’s ties to Iran. Neither will take action without deliberation and complete cooperation.

Israel seems to be waiting for Hizbullah to make one wrong step so it can launch a new war and release the pressure the new American administration has been putting on it. Another war would also serve to bolster Israeli deterrence in the region.

A 2nd Lebanon War was launched by-then Israeli Prime M inister Ehud Olmert

in response to the kidnapping of three Israeli soldiers by Hizbullah.

According to Hizbullah, the kidnapping was aimed at securing the release of Lebanese prisoners held for years by Israel.

The sensitivity of the situation is also increased due to the Iranian threat, which Israel wants to put an end to as soon as possible. According to several reports, Israel requested a green light from the White House to launch an attack against Iranian targets while the Islamic Republic was preoccupied with demonstrations and internal conflict over the controversial re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

As neither side wants to launch an unprovoked attack, they are each waiting for the other to make a misstep so a new round of fighting can begin.

When writing about the Middle East, one can always be sure of being proved right in predicting war. The question is always when, not if.

On Al-Jazeera TV: Lebanese Islamists Favor ‘Offensive Jihad’ to Conquer the world, Impose Islam

Following are excerpts from a public address delivered by members of the Islamist group Hizb Al-Tahrir in Lebanon.

The address aired on Al-Jazeera TV on July 21, 2009.

“The Jihad of a Nation Over 1.5 Billion Strong Has Been Reduced to the Killing of an American in Iraq, a Briton in Afghanistan, a Jew in Palestine, or a Russian in Chechnya”

Salah Al-Din ‘Adhadhda, member of the press bureau of Hizb Al-Tahrir in Lebanon: “We have come here to talk about the pinnacle of Islam – Jihad for the sake of Allah. Since Jihad – like other precepts of the shari’a – has been subjected to distortion and perversion, due to the ideological and cultural invasion from which our nation continues to suffer, and since the nation has lost the true meaning of Jihad, and in the mind of many of us, Jihad has become tantamount to resistance, conducted by a group of young Muslim men with some capabilities – the Jihad of a nation over 1.5 billion strong has been reduced to the killing of an American in Iraq, a Briton in Afghanistan, a Jew in Palestine, or a Russian in Chechnya.

“Thus, the nation takes to the streets of its cities to celebrate the killing of a dozen here or a hundred there.”

“The Nation… Should Not Really Celebrate [Liberation]… Because These Occupations Resulted From the Nation’s Negligence and Silence”

“The nation has lost sight of the fact that it should not really celebrate, even if Palestine, Iraq, and Afghanistan are liberated, because these occupations resulted from the nation’s negligence and silence, in the face of these corrupt regimes.

“Although the crimes of these collaborating rulers are obvious – as is their assistance in the occupation of our countries by the infidel countries – our nation has forgotten that true celebration should only occur with the conquest of the capitals of the world by the message of Islam, in order to save and liberate humanity, by pulling the people out of the darkness and tyranny of capitalism into the light and justice of Islam.”

The first type is the offensive Jihad, in which the Muslims engage the infidels in fighting in order to bring the message of Islam to them, and to pull them from darkness and into the light. This type of Jihad has suffered the most violent ideological and cultural campaign by the West, because of what the infidels viewed as the shattering of their earthly interests – interests that exploit human beings, sucking their blood. Jihad is the path to save mankind from the deprivation and hardship of their lives.

“The West has directed its arrows intensively against the Jihad, because it realized how dangerous Jihad is to Western civilization and culture.

The West has distorted Jihad, presenting it as a blatant attack against people, by shedding their blood, subjugating them, oppressing them, plundering their resources, and so on.

It has distorted the true meaning of Jihad.

“It is sad that some Muslims have clung to the West and been influenced by its culture. Such people went as far as to repeat the claims of many Orientalists – that Jihad is a defensive war only, and that there is no truth in what is being spread about offensive Jihad or offensive war. Thus, they aligned themselves with Western culture. Worse are those who bleat like the enemies of Islam, and consider Jihad to be aggression and terrorism.”

“Some people tried to interpret Jihad to mean nothing more than self-defense. In principle, Jihad is an offensive Jihad, which was instated in order to spread Islam throughout the world.”

Resistance now ‘three times stronger’ than in 2006 Nasrallah vows ‘surprises’ if Israel hits Lebanon

BEIRUT: Hizbullah has the power to hit any location in Israel with its weapons and has more “surprises” up its sleeve in the event of a future Israeli attack, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Friday. The Hizbullah leader also encouraged the authorities to continue their search for networks of Israeli spies in Lebanon, claiming that there are “agents in every village and every neighborhood.”

Nasrallah made the comments during a speech in front of thousands of supporters via a large screen in Beirut’s southern suburbs, to celebrate the third anniversary of the party’s “divine victory” in the July-August war of 2006.

“We no longer hear about the ‘new Middle East,’” Nasrallah said, arguing that the local, regional and international situation today “is not worse” than three years ago.

Nasrallah was defiant in the address, mocking the Israeli army’s military capability on several occasions, and urging the Lebanese to show national solidarity to prevent an outbreak of conflict, which he said Hizbullah didn’t want, but didn’t fear.

Nasrallah said that since the 2006 war, the Israelis have “been training and getting weapons, and changing their military leaders … if this is a ‘victorious’ army, what would a defeated army look like?”

Israel’s verbal campaign against Hizbullah in recent weeks has rebounded against the Zionist state, as the resistance party is now “three times stronger” than it was in 2006, Nasrallah said.

Amending a recent party slogan Nasrallah added Beirut to the southern suburbs, promising that “if you bomb Beirut or the southern suburbs, we will bomb Tel Aviv.” The earlier slogan was “the southern suburbs for Tel Aviv,” as Nasrallah appeared to be reaching out to supporters beyond the party’s stronghold.

Amid the speculation and media reports of an imminent war, the Hizbullah leader said there were two choices for the Lebanese. “We can say ‘take it easy, Israel, we’re ready to do whatever you want.’ Or we can strengthen our capabilities, to prevent the possibility of war.”

The Hizbullah leader said that when Lebanon possesses a deterrent capability, via a national defense strategy, it would be able to prevent Israeli leaders from “even thinking” about waging war.

“It’s not easy for any Israeli government to take the decision of war against Lebanon,” he said. “They won’t think 1,000 times, but one million times” before taking such a step.

“Any new war against Israel would involve ‘new rules of the game,’” he said.

He said the Israeli army had come up with the notion of the “suburbs doctrine,” a reference to the southern suburbs of Beirut, Hizbullah’s stronghold.

Nasrallah said Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and other officials had incited the international community against the party and its military capabilities.

He said this had backfired, meaning that they were forced to admit to the Israeli people that Hizbullah’s arsenal could now hit anywhere in Israel.

In July 2006, “the people of Haifa, Nahariya and Kiryat Shemona fled,” Nasrallah said, adding that the entire population of Israel would flee their homes in the event of a new war.

Nasrallah devoted most of the speech to evaluating Israel’s recent stream of statements and threats, warning about Hizbullah’s military capabilities in Lebanon, and its supposed plans to target Israeli diplomats abroad, as revenge for the assassination of Imad Mughniyeh, the party’s special operations commander.

There will be “no war now,” Nasrallah said, calling the campaign a psychological ploy to sow fear and confusion, which he said would fail.

“The Israelis are like we were decades ago,” he said. “Whoever talks a lot and threatens a lot, doesn’t frighten.”

Nasrallah said the “Israeli media commotion,” helped by outlets in the United States and Great Britain, had several objectives: hampering the formation of a new government in Lebanon, focusing on Hizbullah’s weapons to put the resistance on the defensive, and obstructing the role of UNIFIL peacekeepers in the south, as a deadline approaches this month for the extension of the troops’ mandate.

Among those in attendance was Taimur Jumblatt, the son of Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt, who last week announced his group’s departure from the March 14 coalition.

Accompanying Jumblatt’s son at the rally was PSP official and Aley MP Akram Chehayeb.

Nasrallah began his address by reading a statement by Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu that he said was made after the war, but before he became premier. The statement read by Nasrallah contained Netanyahu’s acknowledgment that due to the 2000 withdrawal from most of south Lebanon and the 2005 withdrawal of Israeli forces from within Gaza, Israel was “no longer seen as invincible in the eyes of its enemies, as well as its friends.”
Engaging in one of his trademark sarcastic comments, Nasrallah at one point mentioned Netanyahu’s name, then added “may peace be upon him,” drawing laughter from the crowd.

Analysis: The common hatred

It should be borne in mind, in order to avoid the confusion found in the statements of some Israeli spokesmen in the last days, that it is this Egyptian Sunni group which is suspected of planning to kill Ambassador Cohen.

Parallel to this, a Hizbullah-led structure has also been revealed in Egypt in recent months. In April, Egypt announced the arrest of 49 people said to be involved with a network led by Hizbullah member Mohammed Mansour and personally sanctioned by movement General-Secretary Hassan Nasrallah.

This structure was accused of preparing to commit crimes against Egypt.”

This included “observing the movement of ships in the Suez Canal, and the tourist villages in the northern and southern Sinai Peninsula, in order to attack them, providing Hamas in Gaza with arms and money,” and “spreading Shi’ite ideas in Egypt and inciting the Egyptians against their government.”

The Salafi trend in Sunni Islam of which al-Qaida forms a part is violently opposed to the Shi’ite Islam of Hizbullah and Iran.

Nor is this opposition purely theoretical. Iraq teetered on the verge of sectarian civil war between Sunni and Shi’ite three years ago, and such a conflict may yet emerge.

The Sunni insurgency that the members of the Zeitoun cell hoped to join is as much opposed to the Iraqi Shi’ites as it is to the US.

Indeed, the key strategic fault line in the region today pits Shi’ite Iran and its allies against the traditionally dominant Sunni powers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Egyptian and Saudi fear of Iran is what is driving the behind the scenes cooperation of these countries with Israel.

But the genuine nature of the Sunni-Shi’ite split notwithstanding, it is worth noticing that both the Zeitoun cell and the Hizbullah network led by Mohammed Mansour sought to make war against Israel.

That is, there is one issue, and probably one issue alone, which can trump the split between Sunni and Shi’ite, and it is the joint enmity toward the Jews and Israel. Shi’ite Iran knows this very well, which is precisely why it seeks to launch a bid for the “ownership” of the Palestinian issue.

The only real inroads in the Arab world beyond the Shi’ites which Iran has made have all been in connection with its proxy war with Israel. Mansour’s network, we are told, included Sudanese, Palestinians and Egyptians.

Even more significantly, two members of the Muslim Brotherhood have been accused of association with it. “Our enemy and Hizbullah’s enemy is the same,” as Brotherhood parliamentary leader Hussein Ibrahim recently put it, in explaining his movement’s attitude toward the Lebanese Shi’ite group.

All of which goes to prove that while it is crucial in analytical terms to be clear as to who precisely is responsible for what, the details should not be allowed to obscure the relative clarity

of the larger picture.

Israel is the single largest contributor to Islamic ecumenicalism in the Middle East.

Sunni and Shi’ite Islamists, at least for a while, can bury their differences in the service of the common hatred.

Since the Prophet adopted the path of violent war to establish Islam in his home town Mecca, his followers have no inhibition in taking the similar path. In fact the first battle of Badr and his last address became the perpetual advice and inspiring events for all the Muslims for any political conquest anywhere in the world.

THE SECOND JIHAD – 1453 A.D.

The Nakba, May 29, 1453

May 29 marks the anniversary of the real Nakba, or perhaps more precisely The Catastrophe: on this day in 1453, the armies of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II entered Constantinople, marking the end of the Eastern Roman Empire, more commonly known as the Byzantine Empire.

If anything deserves to be called an occupation, and a nakba, it is this, although it has, like so many other bloody conquests in human history, been legitimized by time. Still, if the descendants of the Christian inhabitants of Constantinople and Anatolia were to demand, and receive, a right of return, rapidly-Islamizing Turkey would look vastly different from how it looks now.

On this day in 1453, the conquerers were extraordinarily brutal. Historian Steven Runciman notes that the Muslim soldiers “slew everyone that they met in the streets, men, women, and children without discrimination.

The blood ran in rivers down the steep streets from the heights of Petra toward the Golden Horn. But soon the lust for slaughter was assuaged.

The soldiers realized that captives and precious objects would bring them greater profit.” (The Fall of Constantinople 1453, Cambridge University Press, 1965, p. 145.)

Some jihadists “made for the small but splendid churches by the walls, Saint George by the Charisian Gate, Saint John in Petra, and the lovely church of the monastery of the Holy Saviour in Chora, to strip them of their stores of plate and their vestments and everything else that could be torn from them. In the Chora they left the mosaics and frescoes, but they destroyed the icon of the Mother of God, the Hodigitria, the holiest picture in all Byzantium, painted, so men said, by Saint Luke himself. It had been taken there from its own church beside the Palace at the beginning of the siege, that its beneficient presence might be at hand to inspire the defenders on the walls. It was taken from its setting and hacked into four pieces.” (P. 146.)

The jihadists also entered the Hagia Sophia, which for nearly a thousand years had been the grandest church in Christendom. The faithful had gathered within its hallowed walls to pray during the city’s last agony. The Muslims, according to Runciman, halted the celebration of Orthros (morning prayer); the priests, according to legend, took the sacred vessels and disappeared into the cathedral’s eastern wall, through which they shall return to complete the divine service one day.

Muslim men then killed the elderly and weak and led the rest off into slavery.

Once the Muslims had thoroughly subdued Constantinople, they set out to Islamize it. According to the Muslim chronicler Hoca Sa’deddin, tutor of the sixteenth-century Sultans Murad III and Mehmed III, “churches which were within the city were emptied of their vile idols and cleansed from the filthy and idolatrous impurities and by the defacement of their images and the erection of Islamic prayer niches and pulpits many monasteries and chapels became the envy of the gardens of Paradise.”

It has come to be known as Black Tuesday, the Last Day of the World. Tuesday has been regarded as unlucky by superstitious Greeks ever since. But they’re about the only ones who remember.

The world has forgotten what happened on Black Tuesday, and on so many other days like it from India to Spain, and persists in the fantasy that Islam does not contain an imperialist impulse and that Muslims can be admitted without limit into Western countries without any attempt to determine how many would like ultimately to subjugate and Islamize their new countries, the way their forefathers did to Constantinople so long ago.

Oh, and there are a few others who remember as well. Sheik Ali Al-Faqir, former Jordanian minister of religious endowment, said this on Al-Aqsa TV on May 2, 2008: “We proclaim that we will conquer Rome, like Constantinople was conquered once…” Hamas MP and Islamic cleric Yunis Al-Astal said this, also on Al-Aqsa TV, on April 11, 2008: “Very soon, Allah willing, Rome will be conquered, just like Constantinople was, as was prophesized by our Prophet Muhammad.”

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi remembers also. In writing about “signs of the victory of Islam,” he referred to a hadith: “The Prophet Muhammad was asked: ‘What city will be conquered first, Constantinople or Romiyya?’ He answered: ‘The city of Hirqil [i.e. the Byzantine emperor Heraclius] will be conquered first’ – that is, Constantinople… Romiyya is the city called today ‘Rome,’ the capital of Italy. The city of Hirqil [that is, Constantinople] was conquered by the young 23-year-old Ottoman Muhammad bin Morad, known in history as Muhammad the Conqueror, in 1453. The other city, Romiyya, remains, and we hope and believe [that it too will be conquered]. This means that Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor, after being expelled from it twice – once from the South, from Andalusia, and a second time from the East, when it knocked several times on the door of Athens.”

Mehmet the Conqueror was motivated by exactly the same religious ideology that motivates the Islamic warriors of the contemporary era. Historian Halil Inalcik says of the Ottomans that their “culture was dominated by the Islamic conception of Holy War or ghaza.” Ghaza refers to warfare to expand the land under the hegemony of Islam — and thus it is not identical to jihad, but is one of the chief means of jihad. Inalcik continues: “By God’s command the ghaza had to be fought against the infidels’ dominions, dar al-harb (the abode of war), ceaselessly and relentlessly until they submitted.” (The Cambridge History of Islam, Volume 1A, Cambridge University Press, 1970, p. 269)

And Mehmet himself explained as he argued for the necessity of conquering Constantinople: “The ghaza is our basic duty, as it was in the case of our fathers.” (The Cambridge History of Islam, Volume 1A, p. 295)

He was pursuing offensive jihad against the infidels, in accord with the mandates of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

If anything today’s jihadists are less radical than he was: because there is no caliphate today, they do not consider themselves authorized to wage offensive jihad, since that is the prerogative of the caliph only. They characterize all their jihad activity as defensive.

May 29, Black Tuesday, the Last Day of the World, the true Nakba: today should be a day for all those threatened by Islamic jihad supremacism to redouble our efforts to resist, so that more such catastrophes may never again destroy the lives of free people.

THE THIRD JIHAD – Final War likely to begin at some point in time between 2010 and 2015.

The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America

The documentary’s title is a reference to the history and roots of the religious war known as Jihad and the spread of Radical Islam.

The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America, the newest offering from the producers of the captivating documentary film, Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West, explores the existence of Radical Islam in America and the emerging risk that this “homegrown Jihad” poses to national security, western liberties and the “American way of life.”

The film, which is narrated by devout Muslim American Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, opens with the following statement: “This is not a film about Islam. It is about the threat of Radical Islam. Only a small percentage of the world’s 1.3 billion Muslims are radical. This film is about them.”

The documentary’s title is a reference to the history and roots of the religious war known as Jihad and the spread of Radical Islam. The first Jihad is traced back to 630 AD, and the second to 1453 AD. The Third Jihad is the war we face today.

In 72 minutes, the film reveals that radical Islamists driven by a religiously motivated rejection of western values cultures and religion are engaging in a multifaceted strategy to overcome the western world. In contrast to the use of “violent jihad” and terror to instill fear in “non-believers,” The Third Jihad introduces the concept of “cultural jihad” as a means to infiltrate and undermine our society from within.

The film focuses on the recent FBI discovery of a Muslim Brotherhood memo, a Grand Jihad Manifesto, calling for the destruction of the U.S. and the establishment of a radical Islamist Theocracy in its place. The document outlines how radical Islamists are taking advantage of our country’s democratic processes and using them to destroy our way of life.

The desire to replace western freedoms and rights with Sharia Law (Islamic religious law) is clearly captured in the film by means of interviews with and the speeches of several radical American Muslim leaders

and activists. This idea is also portrayed through shocking TV footage that had been aired on Islamic broadcasting stations around the world. Some of the dangers of Sharia Law are exemplified by the human rights injustices that arise in Radical Islamic societies, including the persecution, and in some cases the murder, of women, children, homosexuals, and Christians.

With the help of experts on Radical Islam, including a first-hand account from a former terrorist and interviews with human rights activists and American security specialists, the film asserts that the spread of Islamic fundamentalism in America is a societal reality that cannot be ignored. The movement’s infiltration of American society includes a variety of mediums, such as the recruitment of radical supporters in prisons, mosques and universities; the manipulation of academic institutions by way of large donations; the establishment of secretive communities and training camps; and the exploitation of the media.
