In an article last week in World Net Daily, Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei called on the nations of Islam around the world to unite militarily in response to the imminent coming of Islam’s Messianic Savior, the Mahdi.

He specifically pleaded to Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to join Iran in preparation for Mahdi’s soon coming.

The purpose for uniting now, as stated by a report in Al Arabiya, is to fight Israel and the U.S., which are seen as the greatest obstacles to

the coming of the Mahdi and the age

of Islamic justice.

The call to a final war led by the Antichrist is certainly coming from the correct prophetic Revelation location indicated by John, namely the great Euphrates River, which winds its way from its headwater systems in Turkey southward, touching eastern Syria, running through central Iraq, gliding by western Iran, and emptying into the Persian Gulf at Kuwait. It is from this area that satanic spiritual cries will call the nations to gather to destroy Israel, via spiritual cries from frog like demons coming from the mouths of the Dragon, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet

Revelation 16:12-14 – And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. [13] And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. [14] For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth

and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

I believe the one Christians identify as the False Prophet will be the one the Muslims will identify as Jesus Christ, who will replace the Madhi after he is killed in battle against Israel.

REVELATION FALSE PROPHET WILL BE IDENTIFIED AS JESUS BY ISLAM

Revelation 13:11 – And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

I have taught for many years that this second beast was the false prophet who would be the Pope of Rome, but I believe I was wrong. I have always taught the Antichrist would be a Muslim coming out of Syria or Lebanon, but one of the problems I had was linking the Pope up to a religion that did not believe Jesus was the Son of God.

I have been very comfortable with the woman on the beast in Revelation being the Catholic Church, but I was never really comfortable with the Pope being the false prophet. It was my time among the Muslims and what I learned about the Islamic faith that caused me to believe the beast in Revelation was an Islamic beast, and the ten horns were Islamic kings of the Middle East. I knew that as early

as 1967. But after I continued to study the beliefs of Islam, I came to change my mind about the beast of Revelation 13:11. He fits the description of one of the main figures in Islamic belief.

Revelation 13:11 – And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

He is a lamb that has a dragon speaking out of his physical body, he is the Islamic version of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Virgin Mary, a counterfeit Jesus who 1.4 billion Muslims will accept in the wink of an eye, and many Catholics will not be too far behind them.

Jesus in Islam (Īsā) is a messenger of God who had been sent to guide the Children of Israel (banī isrā’īl) with a new scripture, the Injīl (gospel). The Qur’an, believed by Muslims to be God’s final revelation, states that Jesus was born to Mary (Maryam) as the result of virginal conception, a miraculous event which occurred by the decree of God (Allah). To aid him in his quest, Jesus was given the ability to perform miracles, all by the permission of God. According to Islamic texts, Jesus was neither killed nor crucified, but rather he was raised alive up to heaven.

Islamic traditions narrate that he will return to earth near the day of judgment to restore justice and defeat al-Masih ad-Dajjāl (lit. “the false messiah”, also known as the Antichrist). Like all prophets in Islam, Jesus is considered to have been a Muslim, as he preached for people to adopt the straight path in submission to God’s will. Islam rejects that Jesus was God incarnate or the son of God, stating that he was an ordinary man who, like other prophets, had been divinely chosen to spread God’s message. Islamic texts forbid the association of partners with God (shirk), emphasizing the notion of God’s divine oneness (tawhīd). Numerous titles are given to Jesus in the Qur’an, such as al-Masih (“the messiah; the anointed one” i.e. by means of blessings), although it does not correspond with the meaning accrued in Christian belief. Jesus is seen in Islam as a precursor to Muhammad, and is believed by Muslims to have foretold the latter’s coming.

Muslims believe that Jesus will return at a time close to the end of the world.

According to Islamic tradition, Jesus’ descent will be in the midst of wars fought by the Mahdi (lit. “the rightly guided one”), known in Islamic eschatology as the redeemer of Islam, against the Antichrist (al-Masīh ad-Dajjāl, “false messiah”) and his followers

. Jesus will descend at the point of a white arcade in Damascus, dressed in yellow robes – his head anointed. He will then join the Mahdi in his war against the Dajjal. Jesus, considered in Islam as a Muslim, will abide by the Islamic teachings. Eventually, Jesus will slay the Dajjal, and then everyone from the people of the book (ahl al-kitāb, referring to Jews and Christians) will believe in him. Thus, there will be one community, that of Islam.

After the death of the Mahdi, Jesus will assume leadership. This is a time associated in Islamic narrative with universal peace and justice. Islamic texts also allude to the appearance of Ya’juj and Ma’juj (known also as Gog and Magog), ancient tribes which will disperse and cause destruction on earth. God, in response to Jesus’ prayers, will kill them by sending a type of worm in the napes of their necks. Jesus’ rule is said to be around forty years, after which he will die.

Muslims will then perform the funeral prayer for him and then bury him in the city of Medina in a grave left vacant beside Muhammad, Abu Bakr, and Umar (companions of Muhammad and the first and second Muslim caliphs respectively).

Jesus is described by various means in the Qur’an. The most common reference to Jesus occurs in the form of “Ibn Maryam” (son of Mary), sometimes preceded with another title. Jesus is also recognised as a prophet (nabī) and messenger (rasūl) of God. The terms wadjih (“worthy of esteem in this world and the next”), mubārak (“blessed”, or “a source of benefit for others”), `abd-Allāh (servant of God) are all used in the Qur’an in reference to Jesus.

Another title frequently mentioned is al-Masih, which translates to “the Messiah.” This does not correspond to the Christian concept of Messiah, as Islam regards all prophets, including Jesus, to be mortal and without any share in divinity. Muslim exegetes explain the use of the word masīh in the Qur’an as referring to Jesus’ status as the one anointed by means of blessings and honors; or as the one who helped cure the sick, by anointing the eyes of the blind, for example. Qur’anic verses also employ the term “kalimatullah” (meaning the “word of God”) as a descriptor of Jesus, which is interpreted as a reference to the creating word of God, uttered at the moment of Jesus’ conception; or as recognition of Jesus’ status as a messenger of God, speaking on God’s behalf.

Islamic texts regard Jesus as a righteous messenger of God, and reject him as being God or the begotten Son of God. This belief, according to Islam, is tantamount to shirk, or the association of partners with God; and thereby a rejection of God’s divine oneness (tawhid). The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is similarly rejected in Islam. Such notions of the divinity of Jesus, Muslims state, resulted from human interpolations of God’s revelation. Islam views Jesus as an ordinary human being who preached that salvation came through submission to God’s will and worshiping God alone. Thus, Jesus is considered in Islam to have been a Muslim, as with all prophets in Islam.

Muslims believe that Jesus was a precursor to Muhammad, and that he announced the latter’s coming. They base this on a verse of the Qur’an wherein Jesus speaks of a messenger to appear after him named Ahmad. Islam associates Ahmad with Muhammad, both words deriving from a root which refers to praiseworthiness.

Muslims also assert that evidence of Jesus’ pronouncement is present in the New Testament, citing the mention of the Paraclete whose coming

is foretold in the Gospel of John. Muslim commentators claim that the original Greek word used was periklutos, meaning famed, illustrious, or praiseworthy – rendered in Arabic as Ahmad; and that this was substituted by Christians with parakletos.

If he has all those killed in his kingdom who will not worship the beast, it will cause all who remain in his dominion, if they want to buy or sell to do one of three things: (1) exhibit his mark, (2) be named as one of his, or (3) be numbered as one counted as his follower.

Food shortages in his vast African, Middle East, and Southeast Caliphate Kingdom will be in full sway by the arrival of the mark of the beast on the scene following the seals and trumpets.

WASHINGTON – Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei yesterday called on Muslim nations around the world to unite militarily in response to the imminent coming of Islam’s messianic savior – the Mahdi.

Khamenei, through his spokesman Ali Saeedi, specifically beckoned the nations of Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan and Afghanistan to join together with Iran in preparation for the Mahdi’s soon coming.

The purpose of uniting now, a report in Al Arabiya explained, is to fight Israel and the U.S. – seen as the two greatest obstacles to the coming of the Mahdi and the age of Islamic “justice” that would ensue.

“We have to train honest forces that can stop the obstacles that may hinder the coming of the Mahdi like the United States and Israel,” Saeedi stated. Saeedi also emphasized that the Iranian revolutionary guard possessed a special religious authority to prepare the way for the Mahdi.

Iran also recently concluded its fifth Annual Conference on Mahdism doctrine in the Iranian city of Qom, from which Shi’a Muslims believe the Mahdi will emerge.

In the Qu’ran, God proclaims that “fasting has been written down (as obligatory) upon you, as it was upon those before you”. Laylat al-Qadr, considered the most holy night of the year, is the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad, the “Night of the Power”. Muslims believe it to have occurred on an odd-numbered night during the last 10 days of Ramaḍān, either the night of the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th (in Sunni thought) or the 19th, 21st or 23rd (in Shi’a thought). Ramaḍān ends with Eid ul-Fitr on the 1 of Shawwal, with much celebration and feasts. During the month following Ramaḍān, called Shawwal, Muslims are encouraged to fast for a further six days, known as as-Sitta al-Bīḍ, or “the white six.” When fasting is over, Muslims go to Mosques in nice clothes to pray the first Eid prayer. I have always believed that the international community of nations won’t be directly involved in supplying ground troops into the final war between Israel and 10 Islamic Middle East nations. It will only be in the final single battle of Armageddon, which ends the Gentile Age, that the international nations join the fray. I made this clear when we first began issuing Prophecy Updates on our Web Site. Archive Prophecy Update Number 71A, issued June 8, 2002 outlined my belief on this subject.

WHEN ISRAEL IS SUDDENLY ATTACKED IN A SURPRISE LIGHTNING JIHAD BLITZKRIEG FROM ITS NORTH, WHY DOESN’T THE U.S. ATTACK THE ISLAMIC GROUP OF NATIONS THAT ARE ATTACKING HER?

This is a question I have been asked over and over again for a long time. I was asked again on e-mail recently, and this time, rather than answering the query privately, I decided to make it a prophecy update, so that that in future I could just attach this update to any new query and save myself repeating it again.

The one thing that I learned in the National Security Agency which has been, is, and always will be the motivating factor in any decision made by any country, including the United States, may be simply stated in two words: NATIONAL INTEREST. Many will cry out and say, not so, we did it for humanitarian reasons, we did it to secure justice, we did it out of compassion, we did it out of love, we did it because we love freedom, we did it because we are a great nation: and on and on shall come statements from every realm of society, from “bleeding” liberal hearts to the “hardened” hearts of the extreme right, all giving different reasons as to why this country did something. But the truth of the matter is that, in the end, we always did it for what amounted to NATIONAL INTEREST.

The United States has quick response attack naval and mar ine forces

in position at all times to put down a banana republic type of minor conflict on short notice.

But in order to conduct a successful operation again a Jihad the magnitude of the coming attack of many nations against Israel, we would require some time to get enough regular ground troops in place to have a real hope of victory. It took us a very long time to get enough men and equipment into the Middle East to insure success in our victory against Iraq. The Scriptures indicate that 10 Islamic nations will be led by the Antichrist, and that they will quickly take Jerusalem and drive Israel into the Negev. When Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran come pouring southward on both sides of the Samarian mountains, and the Palestinians break out in all directions internally from within the enclosed buffer zone, chaos will reign supreme from Dan to Beersheva. There will be so much inner mingling of the attack forces of Israel and those of the enemy with the fleeing civilian population that air strikes would kill as many on one side as the other. Since the U.S. is fully aware of the Israel War Contingency Plan to evacuate as much of the population as possible to the Negev if overrun from the north, it will set in shock and indecision until it is too late to do anything except help to evacuate some of the coastal population from Tel Aviv to Haifa into the Negev, and to air lift supplies into the Negev.

The aircraft of the Islamic nations will be under orders not to fire on western power’s aircraft unless fired upon, because the one thing they will not want is for the U.S. to get actively engaged with them in an all out war. Once Israel has evacuated as much of its population into the Negev as possible, and the U.S. sees that the Arabs are not going past Beersheva, we will accept the status quo as best for all. Why? Because it will satisfy our NATIONAL INTEREST! How? Israel will be safe and we will still be able to receive Arab Oil shipments.

Revelation 12:5,6 – And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all NATIONS with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. [6] And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that THEY should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

NATIONS in verse 5 is the precedent to THEY in verse 6. This is the beginning of the final 1260 days that lead up to the final battle of Armageddon, and at this time only 10 Arab nations are involved, so nations such as the U.S., Great Britain, Australia, and Canada will air lift all sorts of supplies into the Negev for Israel, and the Arab nations won’t do a thing to stop it because they will not want to be involved in a world war at this time.

Revelation 12:14 – And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Seventy percent of the total Jewish population of Israel exists in the narrow coastal strip from Tel Aviv to Haifa. The western powers (symbolized as uncircumcised Philistines) will air lift many from this area into the Negev, flying first toward the west over the Mediterranean, then southeast over the Sinai into the Negev. After 1260 days Israel will storm north, northeast, and east out of the Negev, driving deep into Syria, and across all of Jordan to the Euphrates River, and will thus claim the Abrahamic Land Grant given to Abraham. (See Prophecy Update Number 67)

Isaiah 11:14 – But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them. (See Prophecy Update Number 71)

Micah 5:6 – And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within

our borders. (See Prophecy Update Number 67)

Down through the last 200 years we have built up a picture of an antichrist who rises slowly to power over a moderate period of time, then signs a peace treaty that lasts for 3 and ½ years, only to break it at that time to start the final 1260 days of the tribulation period. I agree that he attacks Israel to begin the final 1260 days of the tribulation period, but am persuaded what is pictured before the attack is largely manufactured on misinterpretation of Daniel 9:27, an error of early 1800. The rise of antichrist will be quick, as will be the events that follow his appearance. So I am saying that whenever he comes on the scene it will not be a long, drawn out affair from his appearance until his demise. In Prophecy Updates Numbers 55, 56, 57, and 58 I outlined the view that was held by most theologians before 1830, which is the belief I hold today.

In Chapter 38 of Ezekiel, in verses 2 through 6, it identifies the groupings of those peoples who will initially attack Israel from the north. But in verse 13 it identifies groupings of peoples that will not attack Israel at this time.

Ezekiel 38:13 – Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

The closest thing to which I can relate their two questions in today’s modern vernacular is what we would identify as being a “diplomatic protest.”

You may check all reference sources available today as to the location of the descendants of Sheba and Dedan in 600 B.C., when this prophecy was written, and you will find they are almost unanimous that it represents modern day Saudi Arabia.

I believe Saudi Arabia will be as surprised as the United States when Israel is attacked.

I also believe Egypt, who is attacked by the antichrist after he drives Israel into the Negev, will also be shocked by his attack on Israel, and then on themselves.

Daniel 11:42 – He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

The descendants of Tarshish were sea faring men. According to most historians they first established colonies along the coasts of the Mediterranean, then along the coasts of western and northern France, and finally along the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. As such they could represent what we call Europe, and all the western nations, which were established out of European nations, could be “the young lions thereof.”

So I expect the only part that the United States will play in this war will be to violently diplomatically protest, protest, protest, and then protest some more. I believe we will air lift many into the Negev to satisfy our NATIONAL INTEREST vested in our large Jewish population, and will continue to air

lift all sorts of supplies into them for a long time. I believe we will not attack in order to prevent a massive outcry of American mo therhood in a fantastic body bag count, which is not in

the NATIONAL INTEREST, and the loss of Arab oil would most assuredly not be in our NATIONAL INTEREST.

One day, when I kept banishing around this term we identified as NATIONAL INTEREST in the agency, I was asked, would you define NATIONAL INTEREST. Now, this is not the agency definition, it is mine!

NATIONAL INTEREST IS WHAT WILL ALLOW A PARTY TO STAY IN OFFICE OR TO GET IN OFFICE.

IT WAS NOT THAT WAY IN THE BEGINNING, BUT THAT’S THE WAY IT IS NOW, AND IT WILL STAY THAT WAY UNTIL JESUS RETURNS.

The Islamic holy month of

Ramadan has begun across most of the Muslim world, ushering in 30 days of dawn to dusk fasting and extra prayer.

On the eve of Ramadan, US President Barack Obama said he wanted to build a new partnership between the US and Muslims around the world.

He said US efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan were in keeping with the US commitment to a more secure world.

The timing of Ramadan varies according to the first sighting of the New Moon.

The ninth month of the Muslim calendar, Ramadan marks the time more than 1,400 years ago when the first words of Islam’s holy book, the Koran, are believed to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

During this month, the gates of heaven are said to open and the gates of hell are closed.

The world’s estimated one billion observant Muslims will abstain from food, smoking and sex during the daylight hours and hold extra prayers at night.

‘Mutual respect’

In a video message posted on the White House website, Mr Obama said the rituals of Ramadan “remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings”.

He said the US efforts to end the war in Iraq and to defeat militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan were in keeping with America’s responsibility to build a more secure world.

On the Middle East, he said the US was committed to “a two-state solution that recognises the rights of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security”.

“All of these efforts are a part of America’s commitment to engage Muslims and Muslim-majority nations on the basis of mutual interest and mutual respect.

And at this time of renewal, I want to reiterate my commitment to a new beginning between America and Muslims around the world,” he said.

Mr Obama has spoken several times of his desire to repair US relations with the world’s Muslims. In a speech in Cairo in June he said: “America is not, and never will be, at war with Islam.

Ahmadi Vadhidi, whom President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has designated Iran’s next defense minister, was head of the notorious al Qods Brigades which ordered and organized the bombing attack on the Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994 that left 84 people dead.

Interpol has issued an international warrant for his arrest for this crime.

Al Qods is responsible for the Revolutionary Guards terrorist operations in foreign countries. For the attack on the Jewish center, Vadhidi used Hizballah operatives with whom he was acquainted from his days as commander of the IRGC’s Lebanon Corps in the 1980s.

He was especially close to Hizballah’s bombing and abduction expert, the late Imad Mughniyeh.

Together, they plotted and executed the kidnapping of a series of high-ranking Western officials in those years, among them William Buckley and Col, Richard Higgins.

Buckley, the CIA station chief in Lebanon, was snatched in 1984, the first senior US intelligence official to be interrogated under torture by joint teams employed by Vadhidi and Mughniyeh. He did not survive the ordeal.

Four years later, the due captured Col. William Richard (“Rich”) Higgins, the highest-ranking US military and intelligence officer in Lebanon at

the time. He too was tortured to death in the attempt by Iranian agents to extract the secrets of US Middle East operations.

Vadhidi has been employed in recent years at home base in Tehran, latterly as deputy defense minister with responsibility for “aerodynamic development” i.e. missiles. He has also served as head of the ministry’s planning department and head of the Expediency Council’s political-security commission.

The Iranian president is poised to unveil his cabinet in the coming days. Composed mainly of his most brutal cronies and loyal yes-men – as well as three women for the first time – it faces the opposition of large sections of parliament who threaten to withhold endorsement.

Argentina expressed outrage over Iran’s nomination of a man wanted in connection with a 1994 Buenos Aires bombing that killed 85 people as the next defense minister.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tapping Ahmad Vahidi for the post is “an affront to Argentine justice and the victims of the terrorist attack” on the Jewish community center, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

News of the nomination was received “with grave concern and deserves the most energetic condemnation of the Argentine government,” it said.

In 2007, Interpol issued a warrant for the arrest of Vahidi, a former head of al-Quds, an elite unit of Iran’ s Revolutionary Guard.

The July 9, 1994 bombing leveled the seven-floor Argentine Jewish Mutual Association building in Buenos Aires, killing 85 people and wounding 300.

No single individual has ever been convicted for the bombing.

It was the worst terrorist attack in Argent

ina, which has the largest Jewish community in the Americas outside the United States, and the second large-scale anti-Jewish strike in Buenos Aires that decade.

In 1992, the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires was leveled in a bombing that killed 22 people and wounded 200.

In Washington, US officials reacted with concern.

“If this report is true and if this man is confirmed as a cabinet minister and is wanted by Interpol for his involvement in a terrorist act, of course this would be disturbing,” State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said.

In November 2006, Argentine prosecutors issued arrest warrants against several Iranians, including former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati.

Senior reserve general: IDF desperately needs more training, funds

Major General (res.) Moshe Ivri-Sukenik, who resigned as commander of the Israel Defense Forces’ Nor thern Corps earlier this year, has sharply criticized

the way the army is training. In his first public comments on the matter, Sukenik says the army’s training program is flawed and troops are not being prepared for future challenges.

“We are not training enough,” Sukenik, who led an IDF in-house probe after the Second Lebanon War, said yesterday.

Sukenik served as commander of the IDF’s ground forces several years ago. After the Lebanon war he led the investigation into battles by Division 162. Sukenik was asked to return to the ranks and command the Northern Corps, but he resigned in January, in part to protest what he calls the insufficient allocation of funds for training the land forces.

Sukenik spoke yesterday in Ramat Efal at a conference on the land war in Lebanon.

“After a year at the Corps, I told a forum of the most senior ranks in the army [the General Staff] that it is not taking things seriously.

We are not training sufficiently. We are not giving people the minimum means to succeed,” Sukenik said.

Although since the war a major effort has been taken to restore the ground forces’ readiness, this is not enough, he said.

” I did what

I could to restore knowledge. It will take time for the IDF to recover from the wounds of the war …. Now they are once more talking about cuts in the defense budget.

The easiest thing to do is to cut training budgets, because that is where there is big money. The result is that next year, after the cut, the readiness level will once more be low,” Sukenik said.

Describing the army before the war as having “rusted,” he said about one division: “Would you believe they did not have maps of the Golan Heights? They had no operational plans on a critical front.

Their plans were for an entirely different front. This is the sort of vertigo the IDF found itself in.”

Sukenik blames the war’s failures on the conduct of the senior officers, and the confusion in the orders given. “The soldiers in the field heard in the media and in the Knesset that there would not be a ground offensive. ‘We can end this with the air force,’ they said. In the end it trickles down and has an effect. I say with authority: 70 to 80 percent of responsibility for the results [of the war] lie with the command and the General Staff. The gaps in readiness are not a pleasant thing, but in the end these led to only 10 to 15 percent of the final results.”

Sukenik described the results of the war as “embarrassing” and said he accepted the invitation to lead an in-house probe of the performance of a division because he wanted to understand “what had happened to the most skilled group. Why did they behave this way? These are the best people we have.”

He also criticized the decline in the ground forces’ preparedness in the years before the war, and he himself accepted blame because he was a member of the General Staff.

“People did not understand what a mountainous passage means. An armored battalion goes into a mountainous passage [during the war] without an engineers APC [armored personnel carrier], without bulldozers – and they think that’s okay. Things that used to be maxims evaporated. In the air force there is a someone leading a flight of aircraft. If he does not practice twice a month, he is not ready,” Sukenik said.

“Everything is written in orders. In the ground forces the company commander is always ready, even if he has not trained all his life. This is not something you learn on the Web …. A battalion goes on a three-week training session in a year – and they trained for deployment in the Gaza Strip or Nablus, not for a major war. Unfortunately this is still not sufficiently understood. A battalion commander needs to know how to defend and attack on the Golan heights.”

Sukenik said one of the biggest lessons of the war is that the IDF must deal with short-range rockets. “Since the war we made this part of our orders: The mission of every force is to end the indirect fire from its area of operations. This is a problem the commander must deal with, no one else.”

Hamas ‘Victory Festival’ in Damascus

In March 2009, Hamas held a festival at the Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, Syria to mark “the victory of the ‘Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades,” its military wing, in the “Al-Furqan War,” [1] i.e., the 2008-9 war with Israel in Gaza. The festival included a photo exhibit and the screening of films showing the Al-Qassam Brigades at their training camps; distribution of videos about the Brigades’ operations during the war; and an evening poetry program featuring poets and children’s choirs from across the Arab world. There were also speeches by military and political activists from the resistance movements, who praised the resistance and martyrdom operations while condemning the Palestinian Authority and various Arab countries.

Following are excerpts from statements made at the festival, as published in the Al-Qassam Brigades newsletter in April 2009.

Al-Qassam Brigades: We Will Continue Jihad as Long as We Live

The “surprise of the festival,” as the newsletter described it, was a video address by Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu ‘Obaida, in which he declared, “We say to the Zionists and to all those who conspired with them that we have triumphed and thwarted their despicable goals… We launched our resistance and jihad not in order to open a [border] crossing or beg for a piece of bread… [but in order to] liberate the land, purge the holy places, and restore the refugees [to their homes]. Therefore, we will continue the jihad as long

as we live. [Our slogan is] victory or martyrdom…”

Addressing the Palestinian diaspora, Abu ‘Obaida said, “This is your struggle as much as it is ours… a struggle to remain in this land…”

Popular Resistance Committees Activist: Our Missiles Were Fueled By Martyrs’ Blood

One of the speakers at the festival was Abu ‘Abir, spokesman of the Salah Al-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees. He said: “…True, thousands of Palestinians, [including Hamas] government employees, were martyred [in the war]. But what the enemy did not know is that their blood [fueled] the missiles we fired at the Zionist settlements and military bases throughout the war…

“The Zionist enemy wanted to eliminate the [Hamas] government, which draws its legitimacy from the resistance. [It wanted] to break [this government] and force it to submit, because it knows it represents the resistance.

But what the enemy did not know is that the resistance has never given up and will never give up this government.”

Former Egyptian Army Officer: The Zionists Can No Longer Withstand the Hardships of Battle

Al-Zayyat added that Hamas’ constant rocket attacks on Israel throughout the war were proof of its victory.

Hamas Executive Bureau member Muhammad Nazzal said: “I want to expose a fact that may evoke puzzlement, condemnation, and resentment. Senior Palestinian and Arab leaders once asked the ‘Israeli’ officials not to free Fatah fighter Marwan Barghouti [from prison in Israel] because this would weaken [PA President] Mahmoud ‘Abbas. On another occasion, [they asked that he be kept imprisoned] because his liberation would strengthen Hamas politically and increase its popularity…”

Addressing the Palestinian prisoners incarcerated in Israel, Nazzal declared: “We promise you that we will never forget you as others have done, and never deceive you as others have done. Our abduction of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit three years ago was part of our efforts to free you…”

Abu ‘Abir said, in a similar vein: “The hypocrites [i.e. the PA] stood on the borders of the homeland and prepared themselves, thinking that they could reenter [Gaza riding] on the Zionist tanks. But Allah be praised, their hopes were dashed. We destroyed the tanks and delivered the pieces to the [Zionists’] doorstep.”

[1] Al-Furqan, meaning “salvation,” is one of the names of the Koran, and is also the name given by Hamas to the Gaza war.

US President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, John O. Brennan, conveniently outlined the administration’s present and future policy mistakes in a speech on August 6, “A New Approach for Safeguarding Americans.”

To start with, his address to the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, has an unusual tenor.

“Sycophantic” is the word that springs to mind, as Brennan 90 times in 5,000 words invokes either “President Obama,” “he,” “his” or “the president.”

Disturbingly, Brennan ascribes virtually every thought or policy in his speech to the wisdom of the One. This cringe-inducing lecture reminds one of a North Korean functionary paying homage to the Dear Leader.

Specifics are no better. Most fundamentally, Brennan calls for appeasing terrorists: “Even as we condemn and oppose the illegitimate tactics used by terrorists, we need to acknowledge and address the legitimate needs and grievances of ordinary people those terrorists claim to represent.” Which legitimate needs and grievances, one wonders, does he think al-Qaida represents?

Brennan carefully delineates a two-fold threat, one being “al-Qaida and its allies” and the other “violent extremism.” But the former, self-evidently, is a subset of the latter. This elementary mistake undermines his entire analysis.

HE ALSO rejects any connection between “violent extremism” and Islam: “Using the legitimate term jihad, which means to purify oneself or to wage a holy struggle for a moral goal, risks giving these murderers the religious legitimacy they desperately seek but in no way deserve. Worse, it risks reinforcing the idea that the United States is somehow at war with Islam itself.”

This passage regurgitates a theory of radical Islam that, according to Lt.-Col. Joseph C. Myers of the US Air Command and Staff College, “is part of a strategic disinformation and denial and deception campaign” developed by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Discredited in 2007 by Robert Spencer, the theory dist

inguishes between good jihad and bad jihad and denies any connection

between Islam and terrorism.

It’s a deeply deceptive interpretation intended to confuse non-Muslims and win time for Islamists.

Bush administration, for all its mistakes, did not succumb to this ruse. But Brennan informs us that his boss now bases US policy on it.
The speech contains disquieting signs of ineptitude.

We learn that Obama considers nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists to be “the most immediate and extreme threat to global security.” Fine. But how does he respond

? With three feeble and nearly irrelevant steps: “leading the effort for a stronger global nonproliferation regime, launching an international effort to secure the world’s vulnerable nuclear material… and hosting a global nuclear summit.”

Nor can Brennan think straight. One example, requiring a lengthy quote. “Poverty does not cause violence and terrorism. Lack of education does not cause terrorism. But just as there is no excuse for the wanton slaughter of innocents, there is no denying that when children have no hope for an education, when young people have no hope for a job and feel disconnected from the modern world, when governments fail to provide for the basic needs of their people, then people become more susceptible to ideologies of violence and death.”

Summary: Poverty and a lack of education do not cause terrorism, but a lack of education and a job make people more susceptible to the ideas leading to terrorism. What is the distinction? Woe on us when the White House accepts illogic as analysis.

FURTHER, LET’S focus on the statement “when governments fail to provide for the basic needs of their people, then people become more susceptible to ideologies of violence and death,” for it contains two stunning errors. First, it assumes the socialist fiction that governments provide basic needs. No. Other than in a few commodity-rich states, governments protect and offer legal structures, while the market provides.

Second, every study on the subject finds no connection between personal stress (poverty, lack of education, unemployment) and attraction to radical Islam. If anything, massive transfers of wealth to the Middle East since 1970 contributed to the rise of radical Islam. The administration is basing its policy on a falsehood.

Where, as they say, is the adult supervision? Implementation of the inept policies outlined by Brennan spells danger for Americans, American interests and American allies. The bitter consequences of these mistakes soon enough will become apparent.
