Eight days ago I had a very pleasant meeting for several hours with a gentleman of the Shiite Faith originally from Teheran in Iran. He was well versed on Iranian history, and I learned some things about the Shah of

Iran who was deposed, and then died of cancer. It made me see the Shah in a much more favorable light than I had held him in the past. One of the last things he said to me I did not completely understand.

He told me to watch for the ‘green’, indicating he was of those of these ‘green’ proponents.

You can imagine how shocked I was when I saw the long waves of green banners, markers, and faces when Ahmadinejad was declared the winner in the election. Now I understand what he meant.

I am not giving his name or the city where we visited, since I am afraid it might be personally detrimental to him.

Regardless of how this turns out in Iran, these protests have made it obvious to me there is more opposition to the Mullahs than I thought.

Protesters in funereal black march silently in tense Iran

DEBKAfile Special Report

June 18, 2009, 8:55 PM (GMT+02:00)

The tensely awaited opposition rally scheduled for Thursday, June 18, took place with hardly any incident. DEBKAfile’s Iranian sources suggest that the rival camps contesting the presidential election results – and in essence the future of the Iranian regime – appear to have agreed on a temporary truce on the sixth day of their violent confrontation.

Tens of thousands of protesters in funereal black, joined briefly by their leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, marched in a silent procession of mourning and solidarity with their dead fellows – eight according to official figures, but in reality between 32 and 45. They made no attempt to provoke the security forces, who stood by and watched.

how do antibiotics affect birth control pills

So what was behind the apparent truce? DEBKAfile offers three possibilities:

1. The heads of the two camps, the one headed by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamanei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the other by Mousavi, are secretly negotiating an end to the crisis.

2. Both camps are frantically seeking a compromise figure to put forward as president.

Ahmadinejad and Mousavi would both agree to withdraw their candidacies to save the Islamic Republic and in the name of national unity.

Neither theory is confirmed.

3. They two sides have called an interregnum in clashes to build up their strength and regroup for Friday, June 18. The regime will try and raise an audience of millions to attend the official sermons in the main cities, while the “reformists” will try and match their numbers for demonstrations against those sermons.

Once again, the potential for a bloodbath on a huge scale is acute.

Marking Khamenei’s diminishing authority, one of the losing presidential candidates, Mehdi Karroubi, has summoned his followers to demonstrate against the fraudulent election in the same place and at the same time as the supreme ruler’s sermon in Tehran.

This is an unheard-of provocation against the supreme ruler.

While avoiding overt clashes, the authorities have ordered the daughter and son of former president Hashemi Rafsanjani not to leave the country. His daughter Faezeh is one of the heads of Mousavi’s staff and funnels family funding and organizational talent to the “reformist “cause.

This step is seen by Iranian sources as part of the bitter Ahmadinejad-Rafsanjani quarrel.

Thursday too, Iran’s prosecutor general reported that the intelligence service had exposed a foreign terrorist network, with alleged Israeli links, which had conspired to carry out large-scale massacres in the central mosques of Tehran and other towns on election-day.

This accusation appears to be preparing the ground for impugning opposition leaders as collaborators with foreign undercover agencies bent on sowing death and destruction in the Islamic Republic.

‘Every knock on the door would send me into a panic as I waited’

June 18, 2009

SABINA AMIDI, Special to The Jerusalem Post , THE JERUSALEM POST

After reporting for The Jerusalem Post in secret for the past few weeks, I have left the indescribable chaos now gripping the Islamic Republic of Iran. Gaiety and optimism have turned to anarchy in Teheran, and I no longer felt safe.

doxycycline cat

The day I arrived in Teheran could not have felt more normal. Walking out of the airport, I saw my family waiting for me near the entrance with a bouquet of flowers and a car to take us to my grandmother’s house. After a few comfortable hours with my relatives following a traditional Persian breakfast of tea, fresh bread and cheese from the corner bakery, I immediately hit the streets.

I saw a Teheran that was bursting with excitement and, dare I say, “liberties” that were reminiscent of the city’s former self. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s suffocating four-year presidency seemed like it might soon become a memory.

Men and women of all ages flocked to the streets en mass to show their support for reformist presidential hopeful Mir Hossein Mousavi. At these informal rallies, youngsters handing out the now-famous green ribbons openly flirted with members of the opposite sex.

By night, the parade of Mousavi supporters transformed boulevards into live concerts.

As Persian pop music echoed down avenues, men and women danced carefree, celebrating their “predestined victory” over the incumbent president until the small hours. For the first time in 30 years of Islamification, Teheran had gotten its groove back.

I stayed close to the excited “green” demonstrators on many occasions. To my surprise and relief, the Basiji paramilitary troops did not disturb us; there was not a single person arrested or harmed on those pre-election nights.

Before they “got the party started,” the hungry campaigners would eat at a hip café to watch the live presidential debates. The parking lots were filled with cars decorated like a newlyweds’ – with green balloons, green flowers, green paint, and Mousavi’s face plastered all over the vehicles.

It was like New Year’s Eve – minus the champagne, of course. And then came Election Day, June 11.

Tensions grew strong on June 12, as Teheran held its breath for the final results. A group of student volunteers sent telephone text messages that spoke of rumors of “foul play.”

I was outside a fruit market when the election results were broadcast on the radio, and I saw at least 20 people truly stop in their tracks to listen.

I waved down a cab. Sitting in the back of the broken-down Paykan (an Iranian-made car), I saw a small picture of Ahmadinejad on the dashboard. “So, he won?” I asked the driver.

Looking in his mirror, he nodded.

I debated whether I should get out of the country right away, even though I had not participated in the “riots.” I had actually witnessed a plainclothes official slap down a young woman who was standing a meter in front of me. All I could do was watch; I have never felt so helpless. The woman’s screams will stay with me.

After the results came

the mayhem. At one point, as I stood on my grandmother’s roof, I could see smoke in the distance and people banging desperately on strangers’ doors to let them in.

We locked ourselves away. In the distance we could hear “Death to Khameini” and “Death to Ahmadinejad” until the chanting grew so loud that the windows shook. That first night we had no dinner. We did not dare leave the house.

When I did venture out for a few hours, the streets were littered with broken glass and ash. I walked past a group of young men who referred to themselves as the “green children.” They used walkie-talkies to communicate with their counterparts.

The riot police and Basiji were standing on every corner.

A protester prepared for them, carrying a canteen of vinegar and a handful of masks. “If we dip the masks in vinegar, the [pepper] spray will not burn our eyes,” he said, pointing to the men sitting on

their motorcycles.

The growing violence and government crackdowns inspired my abrupt departure from Iran in mid-week. My reporting for the Post – as honest and professional as I knew how to make it – nevertheless meant I had a direct connection with Israel that was unheard-of in Teheran, and dangerous. I was putting myself at risk by prolonging my stay.

nolvadex tablets

During my last two days in Teheran, every knock on the door sent me into a panic, as I thought, “This is it. I have been caught.”

If I had been captured as an “Israeli spy,” Ahmadinejad might have had an excuse to depict the riots into a Zionist plot. I needed to get out.•

PM faces rebellion from Likud activists

June 16, 2009

Gil Hoffman , THE JERUSALEM POST

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu received the backing of his ministers and most of the Likud faction regarding his plans for a demilitarized Palestinian state,

but will have a harder time obtaining the support of the Likud central committee, party activists said on Tuesday.

Top Likud central committee members have begun an effort to obtain the 1,000 signatures necessary to force an emergency meeting without the approval of Netanyahu and

committee head Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon.

“Netanyahu does not have a mandate to create a Palestinian state, or a demilitarized state, or whatever he wants to call it,” said veteran Likud central committee member Uri Faraj, who heads the Likud’s Petah Tikva branch, which is the party’s largest.

Faraj was one of the leaders of efforts in

the central committee to prevent former prime minister and Likud leader Ariel Sharon from withdrawing from the Gaza Strip. He also helped Netanyahu pass a resolution in the Likud central committee in 2002 against the formation of a Palestinian state.

He said he would have the signatures within a week, and would then present them to Netanyahu and Kahlon. If they refuse to convene the committee, as expected, he would go to internal Likud courts to force them to do so.

Sources close to Netanyahu said there was a small chance he would agree to convene the committee, to get support for his plan while he still had the momentum from Sunday’s speech.

Likud activist Moshe Feiglin said it was tactically wrong to convene the committee until the public realized how wrong Netanyahu was. He said this would only happen after US President Barack Obama intensified pressure on Israel and showed that Netanyahu was incorrect to think that his speech could alleviate American pressure.

“Netanyahu set the principle that there is room for another state, and the world will take it from there,” Feiglin said.

Likud MKs Danny Danon and Yariv Levin, who oppose the creation of a Palestinian state, said they opposed convening the committee, because they were afraid that Netanyahu could succeed in overturning the 2002 decision opposing such a state because of support for his speech.

Two new polls published Tuesday showed that the public overwhelmingly approved of Netanyahu’s speech and his conditions that a Palestinian state be demilitarized and that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

A New Wave poll published in Israel Hayom found that 61 percent supported the plan, 23% opposed it and 16% did not have an opinion.

A Dialog poll published in Haaretz found that 71% agreed with the content of the speech.

In the Dialog poll, Netanyahu’s approval rating jumped to 44%, up from 28% a month ago. The poll found that 67% did not think the speech would move peace closer.

In the New Wave poll, 20% of respondents said their support for Netanyahu increased due to the speech, 10% said it decreased, 54% said it did not change and 16% did not know.

Nuke agency head critical of N. Korea, Iran, Syria

June 15, 2009

FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

VIENNA — The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Monday told North Korea to end its course of nuclear confrontation. He also urged Iran to agree to Washington’s offer of direct dialogue and called on Syria to cooperate with his agency’s investigation.

Mohamed ElBaradei’s comments at the opening session of the U.N. agency’s 35-nation board meeting dovetailed with world concerns about North Korea and Iran.

North Korea has announced it is expanding its weapons-capable program after exploding its second test atomic bomb last month. And beyond the immediate concerns of serious street unrest in Tehran, the re-election of hardline Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has clouded hopes that Tehran may be ready to end its nuclear defiance and meet U.N. Security Council demands that it curb its uranium enrichment.

Iran has been referred to the Security Council on suspicions of hiding nuclear activities and fears it could retool its enrichment program from making material for nuclear power into weapons-grade uranium used for warheads.

Ali Ashgar Soltanieh, Iran’s chief delegate to the IAEA, again rejected any such goals, telling The Associated Press on Monday that claims otherwise were nothing more than “politically motivated gestures by some countries.”

Syria also denies any hidden nuclear agenda but it, too, is under IAEA investigation.

The U.S. claims Damascus has been hiding a nuclear program that came to light in September 2007 after Israeli warplanes destroyed what Washington says was its centerpiece — a nearly finished reactor built with North Korean help.

Except for a brief period that ended last year when North Korea broke off talks and resumed its nuclear activities, agency inspectors have been shut out of the country since 2003. The agency has more overview of Iran and Syria, which both remain within the nonproliferation fold as members of the agency.

But IAEA attempts to investigate the allegations against Iran and Syria have also been deadlocked. For over a year, both nations have rebuffed agency requests for visits and information meant to help prove or disprove the allegations against them, effectively deadlocking the two investigations.

ElBaradei spoke of the impasse in his opening comments.

“There has been no movement by Iran on outstanding issues which need to be clarified to exclude the possibility of military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear program,” he said, alluding to U.S. and other intelligence shared with the agency that suggests Tehran had developed plans for elements of a weapons program.

As well, “Iran has not implemented any of the measures called for by the Security Council,” he added, in an indirect reference to its refusal to freeze enrichment.

Noting newfound American willingness to talk directly to the Islamic Republic on nuclear and other issues of contention, ElBaradei urged Tehran to “respond to the U.S. initiative with an equal gesture of goodwill and trust-building.”

On Syria, ElBaradei criticized the limited information and access” provided by Damascus, noting that the IAEA investigation was unable to make progress as a result

And he expressed concern over North Korea’s second nuclear test. “This,” said ElBaradei, “is a wrong step in the wrong direction, which has again created an environment of confrontation.”

The Region: Israel and America: Neither surrender nor confrontation

June 15, 2009

Barry Rubin , THE JERUSALEM POST

The US demands that Israel stop construction on settlements. If this doesn’t happen, it hints at dire retaliation. If it agrees to this step, President Barack Obama promises great things. First, he claims this will bring dramatic progress toward Israel-Palestinian peace.

That’s rubbish. We know that yielding would be followed by Palestinian Authority demands for more unilateral concessions. PA leaders openly say their strategy is to let the West force Israel to give them everything they want without any change by them. We know the current PA leadership is both disinterested and incapable of making real peace.

In addition, the US initiative is absurdly one-sided, without hint of reciprocity by the other side. Equally, the administration’s brutal rhetoric denies previous US commitments have been made on this issue. This approach seems almost designed to convince Israelis that further unilateral concessions will continue to be unrewarded and Western commitments continue to be forgotten.

Second, we are promised that if Israel gives in, Arab states will change their policies, becoming more conciliatory and more helpful on pressing Iran.

This, too, is rubbish. Arab regimes have their own interests. They need the conflict; they view its solution to be an American problem.

adverse reactions in cleocin

They’ve already make it clear that the US will get nothing from them for pressuring Israel into concessions except demands to press for more concessions.

Third, we’re promised that if construction on settlements is stopped, the West can act more effectively on Iran. But its already chosen a policy of engagement and concessions. There’s no will or ability to increase sanctions, not to mention continuing opposition by Russia and China. So this, equally, is rubbish. Iran will make no deal, stall for time and correctly assess Western willpower as low.

Of course, Iran wants to be regional hegemon.

It sees having nuclear weapons as a plus whose political and economic costs are low.

Most disgusting of all are honeyed claims by American and European officials – be they cynical or foolish – that such concessions are good for Israel, as it will help it make peace and greater security.

best cialis levitra viagra which

In truth, they want it to make concessions for their own selfish interests. They believe it will make the radical Islamist threat go away at its expense.

WHAT THEN is the reality? If construction on settlements ceases, Israel will get nothing. Arab states, the PA and West won’t change policies. Iran will go merrily on toward nuclear weapons.

Nevertheless, there’s still a strong case for making a gesture for several reasons:

• To avoid alienating the US government.

cipro 500

Failing to resolve this issue means that the administration will blame its inevitable failures and certain lack of progress in the region on Israel for the next three, perhaps next seven, years.

• By saying “no,” Israel would play into the scapegoating game, letting everyone pretend that all would be fine if it only altered its behavior. American and European policymakers will claim the only reason they can’t get peace, Arab cooperation, or an end to Iran’s nuclear drive is because of Israel’s behavior.

• The issue is construction, not dismantling settlements or withdrawing from more land. While one might respond that will be the next demand, a partial “yes” now does not inhibit saying “no” on a bigger issue.

• The first response, offering removal of outposts or roadblocks and asking for adherence to past promises, has failed. Up to a point, stalling is a good tactic. No matter how determined the US government is on this issue at present, months can go by in maneuverings. Crises and distractions will arise; the US administration might learn to understand reality better.

cheap antibiotics online

TO ME the decisive factors are these: A single gesture must be made toward the new US administration as a “gift” to Obama to consolidate his personal commitment to Israel. The fact that this step is temporary, reversible and doesn’t endanger lives makes it preferable to alternative actions.

buy zithromax non-prescription

There is also a way to do it on Israel’s terms: a temporary freeze on construction, not including Jerusalem and in a clear framework of what is expected in return, with the results to be judged solely by Israel. What are these conditions? Two could be continuing Western efforts to isolate Hamas, the end to official PA incitement to kill Israelis and wipe Israel off the map.

after clomid

Other conditions could be private, like evidence of a stronger Western effort against Iran’s nuclear weapons’ drive.

If these things don’t happen, Israel warns in advance that it would say: “We told you so. This experiment has failed” and return to construction. Such a move would provoke criticism that it could far more easily resist at costs lower than at present. It should be stressed that unlike withdrawing from territory or dismantling settlements, a construction freeze would be a reversible step.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu knows how far he can go without unraveling his coalition. By conditioning it as suggested here, he could more likely sell a limited concession to his cabinet.

But what he should certainly avoid is alternative concessions to “protect” settlement construction more dangerous to lives and interests without solving the problem with the US. These could include going too far in loosening restrictions on the flow of goods into the Gaza Strip or dismantling needed roadblocks.

Israel should respond flexibly on the construction issue but only in a way shaped by its own interests and far better appreciation of the situation in the Middle East.

Carter honored by PA government

June 13, 2009

Associated Press , THE JERUSALEM POST

Former US President Jimmy Carter was honored by the Palestinian Authority government Saturday and pledged to support the Palestinians’ campaign for independence to the end of his days.

In his acceptance speech, Carter urged the Palestinians to end their internal divisions and stop persecuting their rivals.

Carter met with Hamas’ exiled leadership in Syria on Thursday and is to head to Gaza on Sunday, after meeting with Israeli officials. Carter has said peace between Israel and the Palestinians is impossible without involving Hamas, but reiterated in Syria that he was not representing the Obama administration.

In the West Bank, Carter was awarded the Palestine International Award for Excellence and Creativity. Previous recipients included two former international envoys, James Wolfensohn and Peter Hansen.

Carter brokered the Israeli-Egypt peace accord of 1979 and several years ago wrote a book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid,” that is sharply critical of Israeli policies in the occupied territories.

“I have been in love with the Palestinian people for many years,

” he said Saturday, adding that this is a feeling shared by members of his family.

“I have two great-grandsons that are rapidly learning about the people here and the anguish and suffering and deprivation of human rights that you have experienced ever since 1948,” he said.

Referring to President Barack Obama’s call for an Israeli settlement freeze, Carter said that “in the future, I am sure, he will call for the dismantling of the settlements that exist.”

But he noted that Obama also called for an end to violence against Israelis and for Arab acceptance of Israelis’ right to their own nation.

Carter said such acceptance is painful for displaced Palestinians, but that “there has to be an accommodation in the political world.”

Carter, 85, pledged his “assistance, as long as I live, to win your freedom, your independence, your sovereignty and a good life.”

Gush Etzion Residents: Keep Carter Out of Our Towns

Sivan 21, 5769 June 13, 2009

By David Lev

(IsraelNN.com) Three days after declaring that “Mideast peace is impossible without Hamas,” and a day after receiving one of the highest awards bestowed by the Palestinian Authority, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is set to visit Neve Daniel in Gush Etzion on Sunday – and residents say they are very unhappy with the visit, to say the least.

In a letter, a grassroots residents’ committee urged residents to contact Gush Etzion Regional Council Head Shaul Goldstein, whose home Carter is supposed to visit Sunday, and express their disapproval of the meeting. Several petitions are being circulated condemning the visit.

The committee’s letter said that the former U.S. president, known for his hostitlity towards Israel, was trying to put on a guise of “even-handedness” in visiting a town in Judea and Samaria (Yesha), but “Carter is unfair and is far from being objective.”

“Carter has always, and will always, speak up and defend those who wish to destroy the State of Israel. He pushes an anti-Israel agenda, while presenting himself as a good-willed broker who seeks peace and is ready to listen to ‘both sides.’ This makes him all the more dangerous,” the letter added.

Slanderous statements

American Jews are less naïve about Carter, the committee’s letter says. Quoting several articles by prominent American attorney Alan Dershowitz on the subject of Carter, the letter lists the former president’s numerous anti-Israel writings and stances:

– Carter’s Atlanta-based research center is funded by Arab and anti-Semitic elements. The center has received a one million dollar donation from the Bin Laden family, among others.

– While Carter professes to be an advocate for human rights, he is in truth an advocate only for Arab rights, ignoring the real suffering of hundreds of millions in China, Saudi

diflucan cost

Arabia, Syria and Iran.

– In his book “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid,” Carter makes numerous slanderous statements against Jews, and mangles the history of the land of Israel, claiming erroneously that Christians and Arabs have inhabited the land since Roman times. Meanwhile, he completely ignores the continuous Jewish residency in the land for the past 2,000 years.

– His book also blames Israel for the mideast conflict, ignoring the fact that Israel proposed and agreed to many diplomatic compromises in an attempt to forge a peace treaty. In response to criticism of his book, Carter responded with the charge that “any voice that does not agree with Israel is immediately forced to shut up.”

‘In love’ with the Palestinians

The letter says that Carter long ago crossed the line, and that “he is a clear supporter of our enemies. Now he is attempting to present himself as an ‘honest broker.’ We cannot allow ourselves to be the instruments of his rehabilitation. We must tell him: ‘You are working against the Jewish nation in its land, and you cannot be an honest broker.’”

Receiving the Palestinian Authority’s International Award for Excellence and Creativity on Saturday, Carter said in Ramallah that he has “been in love with the Palestinian people for many years. I have two great-grandsons that are rapidly learning about the people here and the anguish and suffering and deprivation of human rights that you have experienced ever since 1948,” he said. Adding that he supported fully President Barack Obama’s call for a freeze in construction in communities in Judea and Samaria, Carter said that “in the future, I am sure, he will call for the dismantling of the settlements that exist.”

Carter ‘distressed’ by Gaza visit

June 16, 2009

Former US President Jimmy Carter has said he had to “hold back tears” while viewing destruction on a visit to Gaza.

He is due to meet leaders from Hamas, which controls Gaza but is considered a terrorist group by western countries.

The veteran politician is expected to hand over a letter for captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit from his family.

He condemned “deliberate” destruction in Israel’s January offensive, but also expressed sadness over Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli towns.

The former US president, who brokered the 1979 Israel-Egypt peace deal, has long advocated engagement with the militant Hamas movement as crucial for progress on peace.

The BBC’s Aleem Maqbool in Gaza says he is one of the highest profile figures to visit Gaza for years.

While Mr Carter is not visiting in an official capacity, many in Gaza hope he has the ear of US President Barack Obama, our correspondent says.

Visiting the American School in Gaza, damaged in Israel’s three-week operation, Mr Carter said “it’s very distressing to me”.

He said the school had been “deliberately destroyed by bombs from F-16s made in my country and delivered to the Israelis”.

“It’s not good to see this destruction, but it’s also not good, when I go to Sderot, to see rockets falling on Israelis,” he said, in reference to an Israeli town that is a frequent target of rocket fire from Palestinian militants.

“The only way to avoid this tragedy happening again is to have genuine peace agreed between the Palestinians and Israel,” he said.

‘New obstacles’

Hamas did not confirm whether it would pass the letter on to Gilad Shalit, who has been held captive since 2006.

A Hamas spokesman said 11,000 letters would have to be sent in return, referring to the number of Palestinian prisoners he believed were being held in Israeli detention.

Mr Carter was due to meet former Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniya of Hamas.

He has met the movement’s leader in Damascus, Khaled Meshaal, several times previously.

Visiting Israel earlier this week, Mr Carter said a major policy speech given by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “raised many new obstacles to peace”.

While Mr Netanyahu yielded to US pressure to back the creation of a Palestinian state, he set the conditions that it must be demilitarised and recognise Israel as a Jewish state.

Carter’s shameless tears

Mideast residents have shed many tears because of ex-president’s Iran policy

Yigal Walt

June 16, 2009

During his visit to the Gaza Strip Tuesday, Jimmy Carter stated that he had to “hold back his tears” in the face of the destruction suffered by Palestinian residents. It is indeed an irony of fate that his comments coincides with the post-election unrest in Iran, as brave civilians in Tehran and elsewhere are being shot on the streets while protesting the vote debacle. Is Carter crying for them too

After all, the Iranian revolution that brought the Ayatollahs to power occurred on Carter’s watch. Moreover, the Islamic revolt in Tehran, attributed at least in part to the former president’s actions and misdeeds, epitomizes the grave implications that policies adopted by leaders of Carter’s ilk may bring to the region.

It was then-President Carter, who in the name of “human rights” and similarly noble notions in essence encouraged the revolution, while forbidding Iran’s Shah from forcefully dispersing protests against his regime. Carter conveniently ignored the fact that these rallies were being orchestrated by radical clerics who

20 30 mg nolvadex pill tamoxifen x

were not quite human rights champions themselves.

For the past 30 years, not only Iranians have been paying the price for Carter’s folly, but rather, residents of the region and indeed of the entire world. Some of the events that followed the Islamic revolution include the American embassy hostage-taking, the bloody Iran-Iraq war, and the emergence of the Iran-backed Hizbullah in Lebanon.

For the past decades, Iran has been the main terror-sponsor worldwide, ranging from the support it offers the likes of Hamas and Hizbullah to the assassination of dissidents in Europe. Tehran also played a key role in devastating attacks such as the bombings of Jewish and Israeli targets in Argentina in the 1990s.

At this time, under the leadership of a Holocaust-denying lunatic, Tehran is making steady progress towards acquiring nuclear weapons, while threatening to wipe another state off the map.

Endorsing extremist Muslim entity

Carter has indeed good reason to cry for Gaza residents, who are suffering under the tyranny of yet another radical Muslim regime. As he did 30 years ago, he ignores the fact that for all intents and purposes he is endorsing an extremist Muslim entity.

Again, the former president conveniently “forgets” that Hamas took power in Gaza through a violent coup that featured the cold-blooded execution of rivals. Once in power, Hamas used its newly acquired territory for the purpose of firing thousands of missiles at Israeli communities, with the declared aim of hurting civilians. Israel’s response and the destruction in Gaza are a direct result of Hamas’ actions, yet Carter is apparently busy looking elsewhere and shedding his shameless tears for the benefit of a ruthless terror organization.

While he has already shown indifference to Israeli casualties, the former president may be forgetting that Hamas is responsible for the killing of US citizens as well.

Mr. Carter, you have caused enough damage already while in office.

Carter Wants Obama to Remove Hamas from Terror List

Sivan 24, 5769, 16 June 09 09:59

by Zalman Nelson

(IsraelNN.com) The Obama Administration should remove Hamas from the terrorist list, former President Jimmy Carter told media following his visit to Gaza today. He said he plans on pushing for the change when he meets with U.S. officials on Thursday to discuss his latest trip to the Middle East.

Carter’s comments came during a joint press conference with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh following their meeting today in Gaza. The former president said he tried to convince Hamas leaders to denounce violence, accept the existing interim agreements and recognize the right of the Jewish state to exist.

“Hamas leaders want peace and they want to have reconciliation not only with their Fatah brothers but also eventually with Israelis to live side by side, with two nations, both sovereign nations recognized by each other and living in peace,” Carter said.

Haniyeh told Carter that he supported any plan that aims at preserving Arab rights and leads to the establishment of a sovereign Arab state on all the territories that were occupied by Israel in 1967 “with Jerusalem as its capital.” He urged Carter to pressure Israel to lift the security blockade which was imposed on Gaza’s border crossings to prevent weapons smuggling.

During his visit Carter handed over a letter from kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit’s parents and asked the group to deliver it on humanitarian grounds. He shared his version of a prisoner swap proposal which included releasing PA women, children, and parliament members he claimed were being held by Israel.

Haniyeh said Hamas desired to end the Shalit case and welcomed Carter’s mediation efforts.

Asked about his feeling after touring Gaza, Carter said, “My feeling is a feeling of sadness, anger and despair after seeing all this destruction that was caused to innocent people.” He said that he would send President Obama a report explaining in details the situation in Gaza.

Carter said he felt personally responsible that American weapons were during Israel’s offensive in Gaza in January to stop terrorists from launching rockets against Israeli civilians in the south. “I know that the Israeli destruction of houses, infrastructure, and factories in Gaza was carried out by American weapons. I hope that this won’t be repeated again,” he said.
