The fantastic China earthquake along the Longmenshan belt, the area where the Wenchuan earthquake struck, has once again reminded the world’s six billion plus population of what a great earthquake can do in a single zone of its massive tectonic plate structure. A resident of this planet, living some distance away from any major fault complexes of this worldwide deep fault system, has virtually no chance of being killed in a quake of this magnitude, that is, if there is no God. For if there is no God the Bible is just an old document put together by about 40 different men over a 1600 year period, and has no validity whatsoever. This would make all the terrifying prophecies, (which incidentally are a description of what would happen if the entire worldwide tectonic plate system were to suddenly begin to shift rapidly for a great distance in one place, such that it induced a movement which spread to other areas, eventually setting off a massive shifting of the entire plate system), just wild speculation on my part. But God is more than real, and he created the very earth he is going to use to punish unbelievers eternally for their rebellion against him.
For those of you who believe there is no God, even though it may seem logical by what you are convinced is hard core scientific reasoning, you are in for a big surprise, and I don’t think you are going to have to wait too long for your big surprise. God owns, operates, and controls what you call “mother nature,” and he is going to suddenly and abruptly set her free in the greatest unleashing of his creation since God placed man on this earth. God has unleashed her in the past during what geologists call “mountain building periods,” before he placed man on this earth, but what will soon happen on this planet has never reached the level of intensity which will soon occur, since Adam was created by God.
Matthew 24:21-22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
Daniel 12:1 – And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found
written in the book.

When I wrote my three published books in the seventies, most of my geological peers did not believe that large earthquakes on the tectonic plate boundaries could trigger other earthquakes on the plate borders on the other side of the world, and some even ridiculed the idea, but as you can read in the article which follows our Scripture loaded discourse, the major upheavals of the last four years have convinced most of the geological community that they not only can, but do.
The fantastic earthquake of Revelation 6:12 is the first earthquake in the Book of Revelation, and it begins the last three and one-half years of the tribulation period. It will trigger a chain of earthquakes along the tectonic plate boundaries like mankind has never seen, and lead to the splitting of the Mount of Olives.
Zechariah 14:4 – And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
For hundreds of years preachers have proclaimed from God’s word this event would occur during the tribulation period, and the proclamation, as is normally the case,
has been met will rolls of laughter from most of the scientific world. Oddly enough, these scientists have, and still are, fulfilling a prophecy made by God through the prophet Daniel.
Daniel 12:4 – But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel’s prophecies concerning pre-tribulation events have, and are, being fulfilled, and indeed men and women have run “to and fro across”
the earth’s surface, “to and fro” into the universe, and “to and fro” in places beneath the earth’ s land and water
surface. This has produced a fantastic knowledge explosion in our understanding of the form and contents of God’s creation. The continuing fulfillment of Daniel 12:4 has convinced me that we are living in the days of “the time of the end.” And I am equally convinced these “to and fro” geological discoveries have so increased man’s knowledge that we now understand the basic form in which God designed the outer and enter crust of earth. These discoveries are in perfect agreement with what God revealed to the prophet Zechariah more than 2400 years ago.
Man has, in recent times, discovered a long, deep fault or “crack” in the earth’s crust that extends northward from the Red Sea through the Gulf of Eilat (Aqabah) into Israel and Lebanon. The Arabs identify it as the Gulf of Aqabah, and the Israelis call it the Gulf of Eilat. The fault itself is known to both as the “great rift valley fault”. It is a double fault in the sense that the two parts of it are separated by the valley floor between the two fault block mountains on it two sides. The vast majority of earthquakes occur along both sides of the valley from Eilat to the Lebanese border. (See Figures 24 and 25 found under our Birth Pangs Menu as Birth Pang Figures). It is the ripping open of this rift valley that will produce
the earthquake responsible for the splitting of the Mount of Olives, which will itself be divided into a mini-rift valley as it spreads apart.

The faults or “two cracks” in the earth’s surface are the northern part of a deep rift, or graben valley, which extends the length of the Red Sea, then southwestward through southeastern Africa. (See Figures 29 and 30 in Birth Pangs). The double cracks extend downward into molten magma beneath the earth’s surface. (See Birth Pang Figures 26 to 28). Widespread scientific exploration during the seventies fully exposed the spreading of the earth’s surface occurring in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and in southeastern Africa. Soon this splitting will extend northward unto the Jordan Valley, and, according to Zechariah 14:4, its effect will be sudden and dramatic. The fantastic earthquake produced in this Jordan Valley Rift, some 30 miles east of Jerusalem, will be sudden and abrupt, as will be its effect on the Mount of Olives, which will be torn into two parts during that terrible time in the tribulation period. This “suddenness” is certainly in accord with the geologic structure of today.
At the present the rift valley fault is spreading apart in the Red Sea at a rate of several centimeters each year, but the northern extension of the fault through Israel and Lebanon has been locked or “frozen” in place by tremendous tectonic forces. When the spreading of the Red Sea fault reaches a certain critical (known only by God) both sides of the Jordan Valley will rip apart with a tremendous earthquake. This earthquake will cause the two faults, which now exist through the northern and southern flanks of the Mount of Olives, to move slightly, one north, and one south, and a new mini-graben valley will be formed between them as the middle of the mountain falls down between them. When the northern and southern parts spread apart one part will be carried north with the Arabian tectonic plate, and the other will be carried south with the African tectonic plate. (See Birth Pang Figures 33 and 34).
Zechariah 14:5 – And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

The earthquake associated with the splitting of the Mount of Olives will be accompanied by a long chain of worldwide earthquakes. These earthquakes will occur along fault lines that stretch across the surface of the earth, and will be far greater than in magnitude and intensity than any which have occurred since God placed Adam on the earth.
The Jordan Rift Valley is merely a small part of the thousands of fault lines that are interconnected across the earth, but the first, and the last, of the many earthquakes occurring during the tribulation period, will occur along it, one with 1260 days to go until Armageddon, and the last one will end the battle of Armageddon.

As geologists have run “to and fro” across the earth our knowledge has been greatly increased as to the method that God has, and does, use in reshaping the earth’s crust and interior. We now know that the outer crust of the earth’s surface actually floats on an underlying layer of molten rock known as magma.
When magma bursts forth onto the earth’s surface it is called lava. These plates of floating crust (called tectonic plates) are gigantic in size. The largest, the Pacific Plate, consists of virtually the entire Pacific Ocean seafloor. The plates come together along their edges, and these zones of contact are called faults.
There are several types of faults that exist along tectonic plate borders, but it is not the purpose of this discourse to teach structural geology, so I will merely identify all these faults as cracks or flaws in the earth’s surface, which reach far down into a worldwide sea of magma beneath the tectonic plate crust (See Figure 3 under Birth Pangs). The dashed lines on Figure 3 are the major faults or “cracks” that exist between the plates. The arrows indicate the general movement of the plates as they drift ever so slowly over the underlying sea of magma in response to its convective currents. As you can see in Figure 3, the Jordan Valley rift fault is merely a very small part of the endless linkage of fault lines that weave across the surface of the globe. Another bit of the “to and fro” knowledge that has increased for man “in the end times” is discovery of the fact that some 95 percent or the world’s earthquakes, and about 90 percent of all volcanic eruptions occur along the fault lines shown on Figure 3. Man has learned that the earthquakes occurring along these fault lines are primarily the result of sudden readjustment movements between the plate boundaries, such as the well publicized San Andreas Fault in California.
Revelation 6:12-15 – And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was A GREAT earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; [13] And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. [14] And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; AND EVERY MOUNTAIN AND ISLAND WERE MOVED OUT OF THEIR PLACES. [15] And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
All mountains and islands ride as passengers attached to the tectonic planets, and by the end of the tribulation period, they will have been moved away from their latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates by a few microseconds, such that the islands have fled to new coordinates, and the mountains will not be found at their old coordinates. The plates begin to move in Revelation 6:12 with the first great earthquake, and stop moving noticeably in Revelation 16:20 following the last fantastic earthquake. (See Archives – Birth Pang 3)
Revelation 16:18-21 – And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a GREAT earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and SO great. [20] AND EVERY ISLAND FLED AWAY, and THE MOUNTAINS WERE NOT FOUND.
The tension and pressure buildups along the plate boundaries produce the world’s earthquakes. They have been built up by the slow plate movements over a long period of time. The vast majority of this tension and pressure buildup will be released between the opening of the sixth seal and the pouring out of the last vial. This will mean a millennial reign of Christ that only shows minor earthquakes from time to time.
The elasticity of the outer crust of the earth, when it was first created, was much greater than it is now, and was more than able to withstand the constant gravitational pull of the other heavenly bodies, which have caused it to daily pull outward, and then to relax inward, as it rotated around the sun, without causing the crust to phase into a worldwide readjustment of its tectonic plates.
I believe what begins in Revelation 6:14 and ends in Revelation 16:20 portrays such a readjustment, and will include all the phenomena of Isaiah 29:6.
Revelation 6:14 – And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Revelation 16:20 – And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

Quakes can be triggered from other side of globe: study

A major quake such as the one that left at least 60,000 dead in southwestern China this month can trigger other earthquakes half way around the world, according to a study released Sunday.
This unexpected finding could one day help make better predictions about the frequency and intensity of aftershocks, the lead researcher told AFP.
A team of geologists in the United States found that 12 out of 15 major quakes — registering a magnitude of 7.0 or higher — since 1990 generated surface waves that set off smaller seismic events in fault systems on distant continents.
The China quake, which measured 8.0 on the Richter scale, was not included in the study, which was published in the British journal Nature Geoscience.
“It was known that these surface waves could travel,” explained co-author Tom Parsons of the US Geological Survey.
“But most scientists thought these so-called dynamically-triggered earthquakes were a special case. In fact they happen all the time, everywhere, and that was something of a surprise,” he said in a phone interview.
The terrible December 2004 mega-quake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, for example, provoked seismic events as far away as Alaska, California and Ecuador.
There is a better than 95 percent likelihood that the earthquake rate in distant areas will be much higher in the immediate aftermath of a big quake than before or after, the study found.
And while the seismic movements triggered by far away quakes were generally smaller — in the three-to-five magnitude range — there is no reason they could not be as big or bigger than the first.
“They could be any size,” said Parsons, who in previous research identified eight cases in the last quarter century in which a 7.0-or-bigger earthquake led to another that was even larger.
To measure the impact elsewhere on the planet of major tremblors, Parsons and colleagues analysed broadband seismographs from over 500 stations, part of a worldwide monitoring network.
By searching for the lowest frequencies and filtering out the highest, they detected a sharp increase in the number of distant quakes triggered by a main quake, even though the tectonic environment of the two regions were independent.
“The big question is aftershocks, and what happens after you have a big earthquake,” said Parons, adding that there are two competing theories as to how such follow-on quakes are unleashed.
Static triggering occurs within a few fault lengths of the main rupture, often in a cascading effect. But impact generally peters out beyond a 100-to-200 kilometre (70-to-140 mile) radius.
The spike in quake activity further afield can only be explained by dynamic triggering, explained Parsons.
Such seismic waves travelling along the surface of the earth “keep their amplitude and do not diminish that much even over great distances,” he said.
The key to predicting the aftermath of a quake such as the one in China will be teasing apart the role of static and dynamic triggering.
“We can look at the aftershocks and start to learn, but we need to know what percentage of those are dynamically triggered because the effect isn’t lasting, it’s transient,” Parsons explained.
“Once those waves are gone, the effect is mostly over with, we really don’t have to worry about that any more.”
