The human ability to find ways to escape the inevitable is astounding!

If someone asks a group of people, “Please raise your hand if you think you will die one day?” – All hands should rise. If a second question was then asked, “How many of you that lifted your hands, believe you will die today?” – The response would be nil! In essence, we all believe we will eventually leave this flesh or be buried in it, but the event is always going to be tomorrow, not today.

The cauldron just keeps on boiling as the witches of Hizbollah stir it on Israel’s northern border, while several terrorist groups on its southern border mix their poisonous Gaza ingredients into the mixture.

It is difficult for me to understand how anyone, believer or unbeliever, can believe this hodge-podge of mass confusion and Middle East hatred, will end up any other way than in a great Middle East War.

There is a question only to when it will begin in earnest!

Since I am a believer, and thoroughly convinced the conflict is an event of the near future, there is little I can do, except to warn believers to watch and keep their garments while they wait, and to warn unbelievers to turn to the mercy of God in Christ Jesus before it is too late.

Exclusive: Olmert and Barak finally opt for truce rather than military operation in Gaza

DEBKAfile’s military and Middle East sources report that Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak will inform Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak at their meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh Monday, May 19, that the kidnapped Israel soldier Gilead Shalit must be included in the ceasefire deal.

Israel and Hamas have been using Egypt’s good office to negotiate a ceasefire.

Without consulting the security cabinet, our military sources reveal that Olmert and Barak have finally come down in favor of a truce with Hamas instead of a substantial military operation to eliminate the Palestinian fundamentalists’ war machine and wipe out the missiles plaguing their Israeli neighbors.

Hamas quickly countered by raising its price for the soldier it snatched two years ago, namely more jailed terrorists “with blood on their hands.” Israel has offered 72 of these hardened murderers and held back on the 280 terrorists on Hamas’ list. But after relenting on Hamas’ truce terms, Olmert and Barak are expected to reach a compromise on this issue as well.

Olmert’s statement at the Sunday, May 18, government session in Jerusalem that the Gaza situation cannot go on and Israel “is very close to the point of a decision” on this issue is seen by inside sources as an attempt to mislead the go down more smoothly if Gilead Shalit were part of the deal.

What is really close at hand, according to DEBKAfile’s military sources, is the deal for a ceasefire. Two key questions are still outstanding:

1. The number of jailed Palestinian murderers Israel is willing to trade for Shalit.

2. How and when Israel will lift its blockade on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. This will entail throwing open all the enclave’s border crossings as part of the reciprocal ceasefire package.

The Barak-Mubarak interview Monday has a good chance of settling both these questions. Mubarak, who wants closure on the Gaza question, knows that in

these matters, the Israeli defense minister is the man to do business with.

Even as Defense Ministry officials said Sunday that Israel was likely to accept the Gaza Strip cease-fire deal brokered by Egypt, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, in a meeting with a high-level US congressional delegation, did not mention the cease-fire and talked instead about a possible large-scale military incursion.

Participants in Barak’s meeting with the Congressmen said they walked away from the discussion with an impression that an IDF operation was very much in the offing.

In the meeting, which included US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Barak asked the members of the bipartisan congressional delegation to think how they would act if for seven years San Diego had been bombarded by rockets from Tijuana, just across the Mexican border.

When asked during an interview with The Jerusalem Post afterward whether Israel would be justified in launching a widespread incursion into Gaza, Pelosi said that “Israel makes its own decisions about its

own security. I would hope that it is something that could have been avoided by other means. Minister Barak was very direct in his presentation to us about what the possibilities were.”

Barak is scheduled to talk about the terms of the Egyptian-proposed cease-fire during talks in Sharm e-Sheikh on Monday, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, the architect of the proposal.

Barak is expected to urge Egypt to change its cease-fire proposal to a two-stage deal that would first include a cessation of terrorist activity and IDF military operations, and then an opening of the border crossings into Gaza in exchange for the release of kidnapped soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit, defense officials said Sunday.

Under Cairo’s original proposal, the border crossings were to be opened immediately, along with the end of terrorist activity and the cessation of IDF action, and Schalit was not involved in the deal.

Officials said Barak planned to present Mubarak and Suleiman with a list of conditions that Israel had set for its acceptance of the cease-fire with Hamas, including an increase in Egyptian efforts to stop weapons-smuggling into Gaza along the Philadelphi Corridor.

The officials said that Israel was likely to accept the cease-fire deal even if it did not include Schalit’s immediate release.

An Egyptian promise to expedite its mediation over Schalit’s release could, the officials said, also be considered progress and constitute a reason to accept the truce.

Continuous rocket barrages fired by Palestinians against Israeli towns in the western Negev cannot persist and a decision on how to act on the matter is near, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned on Sunday.

“We are very close to a decision point regarding every issue in Gaza,” Olmert told ministers at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting. “The present situation cannot continue.”

“Our hope is that one day the residents of the South will be able to live a tranquil life,” continued the prime minister.

Yet some members of the cabinet were not satisfied with Olmert’s comments, saying that words alone were not enough, and that the government must immediately convene the security cabinet.

“Ashkelon has turned into a theater of terror, and the [security] cabinet still hasn’t convened,” Industry, Trade, and Labor Minister Eli Yishai said during the meeting. “There are indications that Beersheba will be at risk of rocket strikes, and we need to hold a discussion about this.”

“It is unacceptable that a situation like this exists and the cabinet has not convened to deal with it,” he concluded.

‘Israel agreed to release 71 prisoners’

Israel has agreed to release 71 Palestinian prisoners in return for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, a senior Hamas official said during an interview with the London-based pan-Arabic newspaper, Al-Hayat.

In a report published on Sunday, deputy chairman of Hamas’s political bureau, Musa Abu Marzouk, said that despite the progress, the group was sticking to its original demand that Israel release 270 prisoners.

According to Marzouk, Israel steadfastly refuses to release prisoners with “blood on their hands.”

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip said over the weekend that the group had not ruled out including Schalit’s release in a cease-fire deal with Israel.

His statement is seen as a departure from Hamas’s earlier position that Schalit should be dealt with separately from a truce agreement.

Hamas leaders were quoted last week as saying that Schalit would not be released as part of the proposed truce. Israel informed Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman last week that one of the conditions of Israel accepting a cease-fire agreement was the release of the kidnapped soldier.

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni was scheduled to meet Sunday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting in Sharm e-Sheikh. Livni was also expected to meet with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

Livni’s talks with Mubarak were expected to focus on the cease-fire deal that the Egyptians are trying to broker.

The next day, Defense Minister Ehud Barak is also expected to meet Mubarak in Sharm e-Sheikh.

A Hamas delegation is scheduled to arrive in Cairo Monday for talks with Suleiman and other top Egyptian government officials on the proposed temporary truce.

The delegation, headed Marzouk and Mahmoud Zahar, the senior Hamas representative in the Gaza Strip, was scheduled to arrive in Cairo over the weekend.

But the visit was postponed until Monday because of the Egyptian government’ s preoccupation with the arrival of US Pre

sident George W. Bush to take part in the World Economic Forum.

“We don’t rule out the possibility that Schalit would be part of a cease-fire agreement,” the Hamas official told The Jerusalem Post. “It all depends on the price Israel is prepared to pay in return for the soldier.”

The official said that his movement was keen on resolving the case of Schalit as soon as possible.

“We don’t want to hold onto him forever,” he continued. “Israel knows what it has to do if it wants to release Schalit.”

According to the Hamas official, the Egyptians have notified his movement that Israel has “softened” its position and is now willing to accept many of the captors’ demands. Although he did not elaborate, the official hinted that Israel was willing to release several Palestinian prisoners who were directly involved in terrorist attacks.

Israeli government sources, however, denied that Jerusalem had “softened” its stance, saying instead that it was Hamas that had realized it would have to give up on some of the security prisoners that it was demanding in exchange for Schalit.

The sources added that a failure by Hamas to include Schalit in the cease-fire proposal would be a “deal breaker.”

“If Schalit is not part of the deal, there will not be one,” one source said.

“If he is, and there is an agreement for a six-month cease-fire, it will be difficult for the government to say ‘No.'”

Israel has laid out the following conditions for a truce: Schalit’s release, the end of rocket fire and all terrorist action from Gaza, and an end to arms smuggling into the Strip.

Israel, according to government officials, does not believe that Hamas would honor any commitment

to stop arms smuggling, and is trying to prod the Egyptians into taking a much more active role. This, along with the release of Schalit, is expected to be one of the focuses of Barak’s talks with the Egyptian president.

Suleiman was in Israel last Sunday, and the fact that Livni and Barak are holding discussions with Mubarak indicates that the cease-fire idea is still alive.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office announced last week that he was also expected to go to Egypt in the near future, but that visit is not expected to take place until Israel has an affirmative answer for the Egyptians on the smuggling.

Ayman Taha, a spokesman for Hamas in the Gaza Strip, said that Israel had already accepted “in principle” the latest Egyptian truce initiative. He added that the Hamas delegation scheduled to arrive in Cairo Monday would be briefed by Suleiman on his talks in Israel.

“We will discuss with the Egyptian brothers the conditions that Israel set for accepting the truce,” Taha said.

An Egyptian diplomat told the Post he was “optimistic” about reaching an agreement on a truce and a pris

oner exchange. “A cease-fire will pave the way for a prisoner exchange,” he said. “Of course these two issues are connected. But our position is that we should first go to a truce and immediately begin talks about a prisoner exchange.”

The diplomat said that representatives of other Palestinian factions would be invited to Cairo later this week to discuss the truce initiative. “So far, all the Palestinian groups have accepted the initiative,” he said. “Israel has also accepted it, though it still has some reservations about it.”

The two Lebanese sides flew Friday to Qatar after a deal mediated by the Arab League that brought an end to a week of violence between Hezbollah’s Shiite supporters and pro-government militiamen in Beirut, northern Lebanon and the central mountains. Clashes left 67 people dead and wounded more than 200.

On Saturday, when the talks started, the government challenged the Hezbollah-led opposition by demanding Doha talks also tackle the group’s menacing arsenal. Hezbollah refused, saying its arms were meant for a fight with Israel.

The pro-government official, speaking to the AP, said Arab media

tors were trying Sunday to reconcile the government and opposition views on power sharing in a future government. A separate committee made up of the two sides was working on fine-tuning the text of a new election law.

Raad, the Hezbollah lawmaker, said the pro-government group was seeking to cast itself as a victim of the recent fighting and that government efforts at “blackmailing will lead nowhere” in Doha. He said 14 Hezbollah fighters were killed in the latest clashes.

The violence was triggered by government measures to rein in Hezbollah. It eventually forced the government to revoke the measures, giving Hezbollah an upper hand in the standoff.

Washington and Saniora’s faction have accused Iran and Syria of seeking to undermine the Lebanese government and Middle East stability, while Hezbollah accuses the prime minister and his allies in the anti-Syrian coalition of being America’s servants.

In remarks prepared for delivery before the World Economic Forum on the Middle East in the Egyptian Sharm el-Sheik resort, Bush said the world “must stand with the people of Lebanon in their struggle to build a sovereign and independent democracy.””This means opposing Hezbollah terrorists, funded by Iran, who recently revealed their true intentions by taking up arms against the Lebanese people,” he said.

No Middle Ground left in Gaza – Hell or Truce

The Israeli civilian population is fed up with the kid gloves approach the Prime Minister is using to deal with the multiple daily rocket attacks out of the Gaza Strip. The people want relief NOW!

So, if this latest true offer from Hamas

is not accepted by Israel to at least give a period of relief to the population within rocket range of Gaza, then the Prime Minister has little choice other than to unleash the fury of a huge IDF operation into all areas of the Gaza Strip. Nothing short of that could bring any real relief from the attacks.

Officials: Barak to meet with Mubarak in Sharm El-Sheik

Defense Minister Ehud Barak will meet Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday to discuss efforts to work out a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, officials said Saturday.

The talks in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheik will also focus on Egyptian efforts to prevent arms smuggling into the Palestinian territory, the officials said.

They spoke on condition of anonymity since the meeting had not yet been officially announced.

The talks do not signify that a deal is imminent but that the Egyptian mediation efforts are progressing, the officials said.

Egypt has been trying for weeks to work out a truce.

However rocket attacks on southern Israel from Gaza have persisted, along with Israeli land raids and air strikes against squads launching the projectiles.

Senior Israeli officials have warned in recent days of a growing danger from Hamas.

On Saturday, Israeli Public Security Minister Avi Dichter told Israel Radio that Israel must destroy Hamas’ arsenal, claiming it was almost on par with that of a sovereign state.

In a separate interview, the outgoing air force chief, Maj. Gen. Eliezer Shkedi, said that in a future war, Israel would come under heavy rocket attack, including from Hamas.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is coming under growing domestic pressure to order a military offensive against Hamas, following two deadly missile strikes and a rocket hit on a crowded mall within a week.

The recent warnings further contributed to the Israeli push for an offensive.

In Gaza, Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas’ military wing, said that Israel is exaggerating Hamas’ capacity in order to set the stage for a large-scale operation. However, Abu Obeida also said Hamas is pushing hard to obtain more weapons.

Earlier this week, Israel’s army’s chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, dropped his opposition to a ground offensive in Gaza, security officials said.

On Wednesday, during a visit to Israel by US President George W. Bush to mark Israel’s 60th anniversary, an Iranian-made Grad rocket from Gaza hit a crowded shopping mall in the coastal city of Ashkelon, 15 kilometers (nine miles) from Gaza, and wounded 14 people, four of them seriously.

Gen. Amos Yadlin, warned this week that Hamas is expanding the range of its missiles and that cities such as Ashdod or Beersheba could soon come under threat.

issiles through smuggling tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border, and Israel believes Iran is the main supplier. Israel has reportedly conditioned any cease-fire on an Egyptian agreement to stop the arms smuggling.

Hamas also produces short-range Qassam rockets in Gaza.

Dichter told Israel Radio on Saturday that Hamas’ military arsenal is almost on par with that of a sovereign state. He said that while 200,000 Israelis are currently threatened by Hamas missiles, that number could grow to half a million soon.

Strategic targets, such as the turbines of Ashkelon’s power plant and the Ashdod port, are under threat, he said. “We mustn’t let Hamas grab Israel by the turbines,” he said, portraying Gaza’s rulers as a “malignant Iranian tumor.”

Dichter said Israel’s strategic objective is to destroy the Hamas threat, and that Egyptian efforts to negotiate a period of calm on the Gaza-Israel border would at best offer a brief tactical advantage.

He said a military campaign against Hamas could go on for years. Failure to defeat Hamas could destabilize the West Bank, which is ruled by moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, he warned.

A PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS

The awesome display of pyroclastic volcanic emissions of fiery blasting up from magma chambers high into the stratosphere will be among the fearful sights and great signs during the chaos of the Tribulation Period. The continuing eruption of Chile’s Chaiten volcano

is a miniature speck compared to the multiplicity and power of volcanic activity that will be occurring along and near all the tectonic plate boundaries during this coming time of tectonic chaos.

There will be a massive awakening of thousands of very ancient volcanic calderas across the surface of the planet as well as a multiplicity in the development of new ones. The latest significant volcanic eruption in news releases was the eruption of the Chaiten volcano in southern Chile.

Chaitén volcano is located in southern Chile, 10 km NE of the town of Chaitén on the Gulf of Corcovado.

The volcano contains an obsidian lava dome in a 3.5 km wide caldera. The volcano is covered with snow, but does not contain a glacier.

Two small lakes occupy the caldera floor on the west and north sides of the lava dome.

The volcano erupted on 2nd May 2008. Ash emissions reached a height of 30 km (100,000 ft) on 6th May. More than 4000 people were evacuated from nearby villages and the town of Chaiten, 10 km from the volcano,

and Futaleufu 70 km southeast.

This was the first historical eruption at the volcano. The previous dated eruption was over 9000 years ago.

Revelation 8:7 – The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

Revelation 8:7 does not mix frozen hailstones with fire. It mixes large volcanic bombs (hail) and fiery blood-red lava. I believe what John witnessed was a worldwide pattern of volcanic eruptions around the edges of the tectonic plates. This verse is a perfect description of a chain of volcanic eruptions. As the volcanic bombs (hail) are thrown great distances from the caldera vents, fires are started, and as the fiery lava moves across the surface of the earth it burns up everything in its path.

I challenge you to view films of an actual eruption and then not believe this is what John saw in his vision from God. (See Archives – Birth Pang 3)

Revelation 8:8,9 – And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; [9] And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

A fuller, more descriptive, rendering of part of this verse from “The Bible in Basic English,” Dutton, 1950, Cambridge Press, is as follows: “It was as if a great mountain burning with fire had been cast into the sea.” Again, I believe the great fiery mountain that suddenly appeared in the sea would naturally have been assumed to come from above to the one abruptly seeing it there (See Archives – Birth Pang 4). This was the first of thousands that will be rapidly appearing along the plate borders of the tectonic plates, building up from the ocean sea floors to break the sea surface. The resultant action of rapid heating of the ocean above these volcanic vents will discolor one-third of the sea water into a murky rusty-red maze of aquatic death by the smothering effect of the basaltic hematite oxidation, and generate an ocean wide population explosion of dinoflagellate, which will produce the deadly red tide.

The earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on the ocean and sea floors will produce the collapse and/or rise of segments of the ocean sea floor, and some massive sliding of parts of the coastal land mass into the oceans. And these actions will produce hundreds of tsunami waves along those coastal areas of the world that have an abruptly rising coastline. (See Archives – Birth Pang 5) Furthermore, I assure you when the massive shifting of the tectonic plates begins, then this seismic wave action would destroy any ships in port. At any given time about two-thirds of the world’s shipping is under way on the open sea, and one-third is in port. The one third in port will be utterly destroyed by gigantic Tsunami waves like the coastal residents of the world have never seen.

Chaitén Volcano, Chile

Continuous eruptions are occurring at Chaitén volcano in Chile.

The airfield at Chaitén town has been covered by ash and water, and is currently not able to be used.

Ash and pumice is floating northwards along the Chile coast. The bay near Chaitén contains run-off from rivers with a milky-green colour. A large amount of sediment has blocked river channels, and lahars will continue to overflow river edges. Over the past two days there has been a marked change in seismic activity at the volcano. Earthquake swarms indicate fracturing of the main conduit, and possible ascent

of magma towards the surface. Increasing pressure from magma is creating a potential explosion hazard, and collapse of the dome, generating pyroclastic flows.

Christ’s Rejection by Jews as King has not Changed!

In December 1977 the first Anti Mission Law was quickly passed by the Knesset. No one had any warning of this and the timing, coinciding with Christmas, appeared more than coincidental.

This penal law (5737-1977) made it an offence punishable by five years imprisonment to give a practical benefit as an inducement to change religion.

Fortunately, no one has yet to be tried by this law.

teachings of Jesus into their hearts, ra

It was like putting new wine direct from the winepress into old animal skins which, when exposed to the internal expansion of their contents during the fermentation process, would burst through the cracks in the skin due to the dryness brought on by age. Jesus knew full well that his new teachings would go against the flesh nature of man.

It would be quite natural for men to like the old wine better

than the new.

After all, who would be so foolish as to put new wine in old wineskins and expect them to be able to contain it

onvert to belief in Jesus as the Messiah than perhaps any other nation on this earth. The “Jews for Jesus” are about to unleash a five year special witnessing effort in Israel. I believe it is to prepare Israel to receive Jesus as Messiah when she is driven into the Negev Wilderness.

during their three and one-half year stay, that they will accept Christ as the coming Messiah in large numbers. I believe the veil will be lifted from their eyes by God’s Spirit in the Negev.

Prisoner of Zion Backs Out of Bible Contest Over Controversy

(IsraelNN.com) Former Prisoner of Zion Yosef Mendelevitch has cancelled his participation in Israel’s International Bible Contest for Jewish Youth on Independence Day. The announcement was made after authorities decided to allow a Jewish-born girl who now believes in the Christian faith to participate as a contestant.

The 17 year-old girl won the Jerusalem region bible contest for secular public schools, entitling her to participate in the bible contest finals.

Each year, important figures are invited to the bible contest event to be introduced to the young contestants and ask one of the quiz questions. Organizers planned to show a short movie featuring Mendelevitch’s struggle against the Russian authorities to immigrate to Israel. Mendelevitch was jailed for 11 years in Russia for his pro-Israel activism. Following the movie, the prisoner of Zion was to pose a quiz question.

When the Ministry of Education refused to disqualify the Christian contestant in Israel’s landmark event for Jewish education, Mendelevitch informed the organizers that he would not be there and forbade them to show his video.

“I refuse to support an event which is being hijacked by Christian missionaries to support their agenda,” he said. “It is not an issue of public relations, rather a matter of principle.”
