If you want to be aware of the situation as it exists in Lebanon today, please read the two Excerpts which follow. The first is an excerpt from the Star Tribune, and the second is an excerpt from the AL LIBNAN. We now have a pro-Syrian, anti-Israel Lebanese President leading one of the horns of the Daniel 7 beast.

Lebanon: Suleiman arrives at presidential palace on first day in office

By BASSEM MROUE , Associated Press

May 26, 2008

BEIRUT, Lebanon – Military bands and an honor guard salute greeted President Michel Suleiman on Monday as he entered Lebanon’s presidential palace to begin the monumental task of uniting a wounded nation and reconciling its rival political factions.

Suleiman, who was elected Sunday, was greeted by applauding staffers on a red carpet at the palace in hilly Baabda near Beirut, rather than by an outgoing president as is normally the custom. Lebanon has been without a head of state since November, when Emile Lahoud left office without a successor.

Suleiman’s election

is the first tangible step in the deal to end the political crisis which erupted this month into the worst violence since Lebanon’s 1975-90 civil war.

Army cannons fired 21 shots to salute Suleiman, as a brass band played Lebanon’s national anthem. Dozens of his staff members erupted into applause.

U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said President Bush had called Suleiman to congratulate him and invite him to Washington “so the two leaders can meet to discuss issues of strategic importance to both the United States and Lebanon.”

Earlier Monday, Suleiman bid farewell at Beirut’s airport to the emir of Qatar, who brokered a deal among Lebanese politicians last week which led to the election. Parliament had failed to elect a new president 19 times over the past six months.

Suleiman is expected to begin consultations with legislators over the formation of a new government as early as Tuesday.

a daunting task. Under the terms of the agreement reached last week in Doha, a new national unity Cabinet will be formed in which Hezbollah and its allies have veto power.

Prime Minister Fuad Saniora’s Cabinet was considered dissolved upon Suleiman’s election Sunday. But the new president asked Saniora to stay on as caretaker until a new administration is formed.

But the head of state can block a Cabinet’s formation if he doesn’t approve the lineup presented by the prime minister-designate.

Cabinet posts will be distributed according to the Doha agreement: 16 for the majority, 11 for the opposition and three for president, who heads the Cabinet.

Suleiman also was expected to embark on a regional tour, after getting an invitation to visit Egypt from Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who attended Sunday’s election session.

Comments about General Suleiman

Many March 14 supporters were disappointed with March 14 alliance for backing the election of the General for the following reasons:

1- General Suleiman was appo inted by the Syrians as commander of the Lebanese Army

in 1998.

2- General Suleiman was the head of the army when many Lebanese were tortured by the Army to “confess” whatever the army wanted

3- General Suleiman was the head of the army when many Lebanese were arrested based on orders from Syria on August 7, 2001

4- His brother in law, Gebran Kuriyyeh was the official spokesman of Hafez Assad, father of the current Syrian president Basher Assad.

5- General Suleiman defended Syrian connection with Fatah al Islam , claiming that the terrorist organization was part of Al Qaida, this is despite the confessions of the jailed Fatah al Islam terrorists about their links to Syria.

6- General Suleiman praised Hezbollah for their alleged victory during the summer war with Israel , despite the fact that Hezbollah criticized the army during the war which left Lebanon in ruins with over 1200 dead , mainly civilians .

On the other hand the March 14 supporters expressed preference for Suleiman over general Michel Aoun, who is generally despised by them for allying himself with Hezbollah . They also all credit Suleiman with the victory over the Fatah al Islam terrorists.

Lebanon is now an Iranian-Syrian satellite horn of the coming 10 horns of the Daniel 7 and Revelation 13 Ungodly Islamic Beast Kingdom of the final age of the Gentiles.

Which are the next two horns to be plucked? Take your pick – Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Libya, or Sudan. Daniel 11:40 to 11:45 indicates Egypt will be conquered by the King of the North, after he bypasses Jordan, and I do believe he will eventually be in control of the entire Middle East, with the excerption of Israel in the Negev. I pick Egypt as one of the remaining two to be plucked up by the roots, but the third could be any of the others.

Zechariah 11:1,2 – Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars. [2] Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

Analysis: Gen. Michel Suleiman’s election as president: One up for Tehran and Damascus

Michel Suleiman, Lebanese president

The Lebanese army’s chief of staff, Gen. Michel Suleiman, was voted president Sunday, May 25, by 118 deputies to 6 abstentions.

DEBKAfile’s Middle East analysts report: The enormous relief felt by the Lebanese people at finally having a president after 18 months of political turmoil must be dampened for many by the way he attained office.

Gen. Michel Suleiman won the opposition’s support by flatly refusing to obey the orders of his prime minister,

the pro-Western Fouad Siniora, to put down the Hizballah rebellion in the first half of May. But instead of being sacked for insubordination and banished, Suleiman was sworn in as president.

Siniora, who backed the wrong horse, lost his job and appears to be heading for exile and a possible position in the World Bank, according to Washington rumors.

The real winners of this topsy-turvy arrangement, the Syrian and Iranian foreign ministers, Walid Mualem and Manouchehr Mottaki, watched the ceremony in parliament from ringside seats.

Also present was a low-ranking US delegations led by Congressman Nick Rahall, a Democrat from Virginia of Lebanese origin. Two other prominent Western officials there were French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner and the European Union’s Javier Solana.

The occasion marks five disturbing developments for the United States, the West and Israel:

1. The new government about to be formed in Beirut will be headed by majority leader Saad Hariri, who until now led the ruling anti-Syrian coalition.

DEBKAfile’s Middle East sources report that Saad Hariri did not inherit the strong character of his assassinated father, the former prime minister Rafiq Hariri, who was willing to pay the price for ridding Lebanon of Syrian and Iranian influence.

In any case the prime minister’s authority has been pared down by the Doha Accord of May 21, which assigned the Syrian-backed opposition led by Hizballah 11 cabinet seats (compared with the majority factions’ 16) and therefore veto power. The weight of authority has now passed to the president.

2. Hizballah, which the Doha Accord decl ined to disarm, becomes the dom

inant military force in the country. The bases and weapons systems of Lebanon’s army, air force and navy will eventually pass into Hizballah’s hands, in keeping with the Iranian model, whereby

This p attern of

a dominant armed force subservient to the clerical establishment rather than the government is one of the dictates of a Shiite regime. To all intents and purposes, the Hizballah five-day coup sets Lebanon on the road to this outcome in Beirut.

3. Lebanon’s non-Shiite communities – Sunni, Druze and Christian – because their factional militias did not stand up to Hizballah, will have to watch the shrinkage of their power and national leverage. An exodus is expected to quickly gain ground.

4. The Tehran-Damascus-Hizballah axis took another leap forward Sunday in Beirut. Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert’s claim that his peace talks with Syria will eventually contribute to weakening this alliance is clearly without substance.

5. Lebanon under the Suleiman presidency threatens to become the most anti-Israel administration in the Arab world. The new Beirut will find much in common with the Palestinian Hamas and openly reinforce the solid support quietly provided by Hizballah.

It will be Chaotic when God Makes It Dry!

The large decrease in water quantities being released from the countries surrounding Iraq is creating problems for the Iraqis. Just wait until the chaos arrives when God dries up the Euphrates River and destroys the tongue of the Egyptian Sea.

Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 9

and make men go over dryshod. [16] And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

In Isaiah’s day the ‘tongue of the Egyptian Sea” is what we identify as the Gulf of Suez, a northern extension of the Red Sea that slithers like a serpent’s wet tongue between Egypt and the Sinai. Since Isaiah’s time, man has dug out a northern extension of the “Egyptian Sea” to link the Mediterranean and Red Seas together. The words “utterly destroy” come from the Hebrew word “charam,” which means “to be cut off” or “to shut up.” We are advised by God, through Isaiah, that he intends to completely shut up sections of the Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal.

In Chapter 1, The Great Split, the division of the Mount of Olives into two remaining halves was described, with one half being carried to the north on the extreme southern edge of a newly created Gaza Plate, while the other half drifted southward on the on the northern tip of a newly created Sinai Plate (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 33). In Figure 34 you may observe the consequences of the movement of the Sinai Plate as it floats southward on an underground sea of magma. As you can see, when the southward drift occurs, the Sinai Plate will be jammed against the massive African Plate. Dry land will crunch against dry land, and a northernmost part of the tongue of the Egyptian Sea will be completely “shut up.” (See Archive Birth Pang Figures 31 to 34). It may not be completely closed until the final great earthquake in Revelation.

Revelation 16:18-21 – And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. [19] And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

It will be possible to walk across this area on dry land throughout the millennial reign of Christ.

The nation of Israel may replace the Suez Canal as the link between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. It is possible that Mediterranean maritime shipping commerce will pass upstream to a point on the opposite side of the Mount of Olives from Jerusalem, and then proceed downstream to reach the Red Sea through the Arabah Desert. Of course, the reverse path would be taken by all maritime shipping passing from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.

This would cause Israel to receive fees from all nations passing through their port on the eastern side of the river (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 47).

“The river,” Of Isaiah 11:15, has been disputed as to its identity by biblical expositors for centuries. At one time I was convinced that this particular river was the Nile of Egypt.

body bro good levitra stuff up whats yea yea

I thought the “seven streams” were most certainly the seven streams of the great Nile Delta, and I was very persistent in this interpretation. I was well aware the expression “the river” was “hannahar, and that this was usually applied only to the Euphrates River. However, because of the “seven streams,” I clung tenaciously to my belief it was the Nile. But, in my desire to make it the Nile, I had carelessly failed to examine the Hebrew construction of the sentence action. When it said that the river should be smitten “in the seven streams,” the Hebrew does not mean it already existed as seven streams, and that God would smite seven streams already in existence. It states that God will smite a single river, and, when he performs that action, it will become seven streams because of the smiting. I now know that the single river, which will be divided into seven streams, is none other than the great Euphrates. The inspired Hebrew text phrase, in order to understand its meaning, should be read “and shall smite it into seven streams.” This action will occur at the same time, and is a part of, the action whereby God dries up the Euphrates south of the Palmyra folds and faults.

Revelation 16:12 – And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

We were advised in Isaiah 11:16, that this “drying up” of the Euphrates creates a situation such that it will be possible for

the millennial return of tribulation Israelites from the area east of the present Euphrates, and that this return would no longer be hampered by having to pass across the Euphrates. The latter portion of this verse also indicates that such a highway will also extend into Egypt. The “Israel” of verse 16 represents the descendents of the man Jacob, hence the personal pronoun “he” is used, even though it refers to an entire nation that came from Jacob’s loins. When the nation of Israel “came up out of the land of Egypt,” God parted the waters of the extreme northern extension of the Red Sea, the extension that was called “the tongue of the Egyptian Sea in Isaiah’s day, but which is identified as the Gulf of Suez today. On the day Israel crossed this “yam cuwph” extension of the Red Sea, while fleeing from the Egyptian Pharaoh, it could be said God had created a highway of dry land from Egypt to Assyria. But God closed that dry land pathway to destroy the Pharaoh’s mighty army with a flood of closing walls of water. However, the dry land passage of Isaiah will be a permanent thing, because of the drying up of the Euphrates and the shutting up of the Suez Canal, thereby making it possible to move all the way from the huge African Continent to the European, Eurasian, or Asian continents, without having to pass over any ocean or sea. A God made, sea free, highway will be created that will last a thousand years.

Throughout the millennial reign these continents will remain fused by God’s power. And, throughout the reign of Christ, the nations of these massive continents will move up and down the dry land linkage to worship Christ in the city of Jerusalem, the new capital of the world. The commerce of Africa will flow through Israel to Asia and Eurasia, and the commerce of Asia and Eurasia will flow between themselves and into Africa. Israel will sit at the crossroads of the world’s sea and land commerce. Jerusalem will be the center of the world.

Isaiah 19:23-25 – In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. [24] In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land: [25] Whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.

one. [16] And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Earlier this chapter, I discussed how God would smite the Euphrates River and, as a result of that smiting, it would be separated into seven streams. Now, I will deal as to where that smiting by God will probably take place (See Archive Birth Pang Figures 29 and 35). God has created a long zone of structural weakness in the crust of the earth from the northern headwaters of the Jordan River

northeastward to the mighty Euphrates River. It extends from the Sea of Galilee area across Syria to near El Rashid on the Euphrates River, and consists of an elongated zone of major faults and folds in the in the earth’s crust, known as the Palmyra Belt. Please note on Archive Birth Pang Figures 35 and 36 how it links the Jordan and Euphrates Rivers together.

The Euphrates is one of the greatest carriers of top water silt on the face of the earth. It tears the topsoil from Turkish mountainsides and then carries it through the Fertile Crescent of Syria and Iraq into the Persian Gulf. The land delta of the Persian Gulf is the fastest growing delta on the earth. This growth is produced by massive influxes of silt carried into the Persian Gulf by the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

Isaiah indicates that God will smite the Euphrates, causing it to divide into seven streamlets in the area where he strikes it. The striking will occur in the zone of the earth which begins on the Euphrates in the vicinity of El Rashid, Syria, and continues southwestward into extreme northern Israel near Dan and the Springs of Banias. When the Arabah Fault is ripped open from the Gult of Aqabah to Lebanon, the resultant fantastic shaking of the earth, will cause the Palmyra Fault Zone to collapse, and the Euphrates River will be diverted southwest from El Rashid across the crumbled zone of rock and earth to link with the northern headwaters of the Jordan River.

Whenever any sediment carrying river moves into a zone with more sediment than it can carry, it invariably produces what geologists call “a braided river.” A braided river is the division of a single river into several streams. Isaiah counted seven after the Euphrates smiting.

index of reverse search

The seven streamlets will weave their way through the newly formed cracks in the crust along the northern fringe of the Palmyra Belt, eventually to feed into the northern headwaters of the Jordan River. It will be what geologists refer to as “headwater piracy.” In this case the Jordan River will have acted as the pirate to steal the waters of the Euphrates into its own headwaters. This tremendous increase will not only triple Israel’s current volume of water, but will also give it more topsoil for land crops than it can use during its Messiah’s millennial reign. Israel will become the breadbasket of the world.

We are advised by John, in Revelation 16:12, as to the effects of this m

assive water division into the upper Jordan. The Euphrates to the east of Israel will go dry. It will then be possible for the kings of the east to pass unrestricted across a waterless riverbed on the way to Jerusalem to worship King Messiah.

Iraq is suffering from water shortages that could lead to widespread drought as a result of the water policies of neighboring countries and an unusually dry winter, the Iraqi Water Resources Ministry has said in a statement.

“The shortage of rain, which last winter was 30 percent of what it was in previous years, has led to an obvious impact on water levels in the Tigris and Euphrates and their tributaries,” the Ministry said.

Iraq’s total water store in reservoirs and lakes is currently 22.07 billion cu. m. – down from the pervious year by 9.19 billion cu. m., it said.

Iraqi officials have accused Syria, Turkey and Iran of either building dams on the Tigris and Euphrates or changing the course of tributaries leading to Iraq, and the government is dispatching official delegations to these countries next week to discuss the problem.

“Iran is holding up the water from two rivers – al-Wan and Serwan – which flow through Iran to Iraq’s southeastern province of Diyala by building dams on them,” said Peshtiwan Ahmed, a member of the parliamentary committee on water resources.

Hassan Ni’ma Alwan, an expert at the Water Resources Ministry, said Iraq stood to lose nearly half of its water resources if the policies being pursued in neighbouring countries continued, especially in conjunction with another dry winter.

“We are expecting to lose nearly half of our water resources – or maybe more than 50 percent – if neighbouring countries continue building dams on the rivers [Tigris and Euphrates],” Alwan told IRIN.

Acute drought

This would lead not only to “acute drought” but to difficulties in other areas such as hydropower, he said.

“Turkey and Syria for their part are reducing water levels in both the Tigris and the Euphrates by doing the same [as Iran]. That could deprive at least one million hectares of Iraqi agricultural land of water, and threaten livelihoods in the marshlands,” Ahmed said.

Turkey is currently building Ilisu dam on the Tigris. One of the largest dams in Turkey, it will produce hydroelectric power, provide improved irrigation, and is scheduled for completion by 2013.

The Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Agriculture have decided only to allow the planting of strategic crops this summer, like rice, corn, sunflowers, cotton, and vegetables, the Ministry statement said.

The government has also ordered irrigation rationing for different crops in different areas.

The 1,800km-long Tigris flows from eastern Turkey to southern Iraq, where it joins the Euphrates and eventually empties into the Gulf.

I fear if any one of the three candidates is elected, we will see an effort made to limit the preaching of any criticism of any other religious belief, and it may eventually fall into the category of being a “hate crime.” As Senator McCain states in the article which follows: “I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America.”

I doubt if Senator McCain would have wanted the endorsement of Paul or Jude.

I am a Baptist Preacher first and a scientist second, and I don’t have any difficulty reconciling the two. I expect to have my beliefs about the doctrines of the church I pastor severely criticized, ridiculed, and at times grievously insulted. But I agree with the ages old quote: “that which cannot be examined is not worth having.” I have learned more from those who criticize my beliefs than from those who agree with them. Please consider what Jesus said his teachings were about to do to the world.

Matthew 10:34-36 – Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Countless numbers of Ana-Baptists were slaughtered by the Catholic Church from the fourth Century through the Protestant Reformation, and later by some of the Protestant Reformation Churches well into the eighteenth Century.

Do you know any religions that teach what Paul mentions as a last day phenomena?

I Timothy 4:1-3 – Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Jude 3,4 – Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. [4] For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

II Timothy 4:1-4 – I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; [2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

to the Core, a true converted Yellow-Dog Democrat from the days of Harry Truman, but as a Yellow-Dog Conservative I voted for Dwight D. Eisenhower, and then was crazy enough to vote for Jimmy Carter because I thought he was a conservative Baptist Sunday School teacher. I have been a strong conservative Republican every since. I’m no moderate, but would vote for one if it was the only port in a storm. I am strongly opposed to illegal immigration, gay marriages, abortion, and any type of religious belief that denies Jesus as the Son of the living God. I have no plans to kill or mistreat any illegal immigrants, gays, atheists, Muslims, agnostics, Christian haters, or anyone who does not like who I am or my belief. I just want to live in a country where they, along with me, can have freedom of speech and opinion in the midst of separation of Church and State.

This year, for me, it is currently like voting for a Bride of Frankenstein, or Count Dracula, or the Wolf Man.

I plan to vote for the Wolf Man because he is a bad guy only during a full moon, when he completely blows his cool, and I am somewhat like that myself.

I remember when I was a part of the silent majority, which turned into the vocal minority during the Clinton Administration and, I fear, in the next administration, will become the silenced minority, and eventually the persecuted minority. The future does look bleak for conservative Christians, but lefties will blend right in with the politicians, and the moderates will attempt to serve God and Mammon.

I guess I’d rather vote for someone who is trying to serve God and Mammon, rather than two who just

McCain snubs 2 evangelists’ support

Associated Press, THE JERUSALEM POST

May 23, 2008

Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Thursday rejected endorsements from two influential but controversial televangelists, saying there is no place for their incendiary criticisms of other faiths.

McCain rejected the months-old endorsement of Texas preacher John Hagee after an audio recording surfaced in which the preacher said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land. McCain called the comment “crazy and unacceptable.”

He later repudiated the support of Rod Parsley, an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the religion inherently violent.

McCain issued a statement Thursday afternoon announcing his decision about Hagee.

Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive

and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee’s endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well,” he said.

Later, in Stockton, he told reporters: “I just think that the statement is crazy and unacceptable.”

Then in an interview with The Associated Press, McCain said he rejected Parsley’s support, too.

“I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn’t endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement,” McCain told the AP.

Hagee had sparked controversy since the San Antonio pastor endorsed McCain on Feb. 27 shortly before the Texas presidential primary.

Parsley’s views were aired Thursday in an ABC News report.

McCain actively courted Hagee, who leads a megachurch with a congregation in the tens of thousands and has an even wider television audience. Former Republican presidential rivals also sought Hagee’s backing.

Hagee has referred to the Roman Catholic Church as “the great whore” and called it a “false cult system.” He also has linked Hitler to the Catholic church, suggesting it helped shape his anti-Semitism. And Hagee said Hurricane Katrina was God’s retribution for homosexual sin.

McCain has faced a barrage of criticism over Hagee, with some comparing the situation to the controversy Democrat Barack Obama faced over the views of his longtime and now former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

McCain tried Thursday to draw a distinction between the Obama-Wright connection and his own relationships with Parsley and Hagee, saying Hagee was not his pastor.

“My church I attend is North Phoenix Baptist Church; my pastor and spiritual guide is Pastor Dan Yeary,” McCain said. “I’ve never been to Pastor Hagee’s church or Pastor Parsley’s church. I didn’t attend their church for 20 years.

I’m not a member of their church.”

Parsley did not return a message for comment left after business hours at World Harvest Church in suburban Columbus.

Obama, who was campaigning in Florida, said that in national politics it’s easy to find people who have said or done offensive things.

“John McCain has to deal with Hagee, who said something that is mind-boggling. I don’t attribute those statements to John McCain.

Nobody thinks McCain believes that stuff,” Obama said. “And for McCain to then suggest that every single statement that was made by somebody is somehow attributable to me is just wrong.

It is just not accurate.”

Until now, McCain had tried to distance himself from Hagee’s views but had not rejected the endorsement.

“I’m glad to have his endorsement,” he said on ABC’s “This Week” in April. “I condemn remarks that are, in any way, viewed as anti-anything.”

The Arizona senator has said he sought Hagee’s support because the pastor, like himself, is a strong supporter of Israel.

The formation of Israel was at the heart of the remarks that prompted McCain to reject Hagee’s support. The comments came in a sermon Hagee gave in the late 1990s, an audio recording of which was posted last week on the liberal blog Talk to Action and reported by The Huffington Post, another liberal blog.

In the sermon, Hagee said, “Then God sent a hunter. A hunter is someone with a gun, and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter.

… How did it happen? Because God allowed it to happen. Why did it happen? Because God said, ‘My top priority for the Jewish people is to get them to come back to the land of Israel.”‘

Hagee tried to repair the damage by apologizing to Catholics in a letter released just last week. Saying he had emphasized the darkest chapters in the history of Catholic and Protestant relationships with Jews, Hagee wrote, “I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful.”

On Thursday, Hagee issued a new statement saying he was weary of the controversy and was withdrawing his endorsement.

Hagee said critics are “grossly misrepresenting my position on issues most near and dear to my heart.”

“I am tired of these baseless attacks and fear that they have become a distraction in what should be a national debate about important issues,” Hagee said. “I have therefore decided to withdraw my endorsement of Senator McCain for president effective today, and to remove myself from any active role in the 2008 campaign.”

The other pastor, Parsley, has described Islam as an “anti-Christ religion” and the Muslim prophet Muhammad as “the mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil,” according to ABC News.
