Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman is scheduled to visit Israel next week for talks on Cairo’s efforts to achieve a cease-fire between the Palestinians and Israel, an Egyptian diplomat confirmed Thursday.

Suleiman would brief government officials on his efforts to achieve a temporary truce, first in the Gaza Strip and later in the West Bank, the diplomat told The Jerusalem Post.

“Gen. Suleiman will convey to Israel the position of the Palestinian factions vis-a-vis the Egyptian initiative

for a truce,” the diplomat said, adding that Hamas and all the Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip had accepted the proposal.

Suleiman is expected to urge Israel to accept the initiative and to halt its military operations against Hamas and other Palestinian groups, according to the diplomat.

“Egypt’s efforts have been successful,” he said. “We have managed to persuade all the Palestinian groups to agree to a six-month truce, first in the Gaza Strip and later in the West Bank. There’s no reason why Israel should not accept the initiative.”

Egypt had made it clear it was planning to reopen the Rafah border crossing between Sinai and Gaza in the coming weeks, after the Palestinians agreed to the truce proposal, the diplomat said. “The ball is now in the Israeli court,” he added. “If Israel does not accept the proposal, the situation will deteriorate.”

Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar warned on Thursday that Israel would not enjoy stability and security unless it accepted the Egyptian initiative. He also said Hamas would not discuss kidnapped IDF Cpl. Gilad Schalit until Israel lifted the blockade on the Gaza Strip.

“The lives of millions of Israelis will be at stake unless Israel accepts the Egyptian proposal and removes the blockade,” he said. “We hope our brothers in Egypt will reopen the Rafah border crossing in the near future because there is no justification for its continued closure.”

Zahar claimed that Israel had initiated the truce by asking Egypt to mediate with Hamas. “The Egyptians are very keen on achieving a truce because they are worried about their national security,” he said. “They don’t want a repetition of the events that happened along the border with the Gaza Strip earlier this year,” he said, in a reference to Hamas’s breach of the Sinai border on January 23.

Hundreds of thousands of Gazans poured into Egypt during the next 12 days.

By seizing the fuel, food, and medical supplies that Israel is transferring to the Gaza Strip, and using the supplies itself, the Hamas terror organization is basically holding the civilian population of Gaza hostage.

Israel has continued to supply fuel, food, medical supplies and other
humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, despite Hamas attacks precisely on those crossings Israel must use to transfer the supplies.

It is apparent that Hamas is targeting the crossings in order to prevent

the transfer of humanitarian aid to the civilian population, thus both needlessly depriving its own population as well as causing an artificial humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Clearly, Hamas wants to create a crisis in order that international pressure will be placed on Israel.

Recent reports indicate that not only is Hamas depriving the civilization population, it is allocating the supplies for its own use.

Hamas steals fuel from the civilian population

A Jerusalem Post Report on the 29th of April, ( ) states that Hamas stole 60,000 liters of fuel from the civilian population of Gaza. This was confirmed by the head of the Palestinian Authority’s gas agency, who added that Hamas gunmen had raided the Palestinian side of the Nahal Oz fuel terminal, stealing at least 60,000 liters of fuel meant for the Gaza power station, for use in their own vehicles.

The London Independent reports on the artificial crisis caused by Hamas, which even caused the UN to suspend food aid to 650,000 refugees in the Gaza Strip after running out of fuel for its delivery vehicles.

An emergency tanker sent to the Nahal Oz terminal was turned back by demonstrators, and was forced to return empty.

EU condemns Hamas actions which lead to further suffering of the Palestinian population

On 24 April, the Presidency of the EU Open Document stated that Hamas activities were obstructing and even preventing humanitarian work by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Hamas nationalizing fuel supplies meant for the civilian population

In another report, Nissim Keinan of Israel’s Second Radio channel reported on 4 May that Hamas was in fact holding the civilian population hostage.

He stated that Hamas has nationalized all the fuel supplies transferred by Israel for the civilian population, and for operation of the electricity plant, and is using it solely for its own purposes. In addition, food sent by the donor countries is allocated in accordance with Hamas instructions.

Of the thousands of tons of grains, food and fuel that were transferred, none was able to reach the civilian population.

To the vast six billion plus population of this planet, including a fair number of believers, the events in the Middle East are quite frightening, because they are a harbinger of a great war and terrifying times coming on mankind. Most of mankind does not believe the prophetic writings of terrible last days events are true, but in the deep recesses of their thoughts the remote possibility of their being true does linger. In the minds of may believers there is a desire for the Second Advent, but they want to see their daughter have the new baby, their grandchildren grow up, and to continue their lifestyle here until they die at age 102, at which time Jesus would come shortly after their body lowers into the grave, and then they could live happily ever

after in heaven with all their kids, grandkids, and friends of this life who were saved. In other words, in all of us “natural” human beings, there is such a desire in us because the present life in the flesh is the only life we have ever seen with our eyes, smelled with noses, heard with our ears, felt with our fingers, and so on. I would say Luke 17:26-30 describes what it will be like just before a time of sudden chaos abruptly ends the status quo

of domestic bliss, as it has on two previous occasions when God judged mankind for a buildup of iniquity that caused his judgment cup to overflow.

Luke 17:26-30 – And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. [27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. [28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; [29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. [30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

No one knows precisely when Israel is going to be attacked by 10 Arab horns, but I am certain that time is drawing much closer, more so than at any other time since I began to study prophecy. And I admit that the guesstimate I have offered for some time is just a guess, no more or no less, based on what has transpired over the last five years in the Middle East.

I believe Israel will be attacked at some point in time between 2010 and 2015. Whatever you intend to do about putt ing your faith

in Jesus Christ to save you from what you are by birth and nature, by an act of repentance (turning) toward God, and placing your faith in his Son to save you, should be done NOW, not tomorrow. And for those of you who have exercised what Paul wrote in the following Scriptures, it is time to submit your will to the will of the God who saved you.

Galatians 3:26 – For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Romans 10:17 – So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Lebanon political conflict turns violet

BEIRUT (Reuters) – Supporters of Lebanon’s U.S.-backed government fought battles in Beirut on Wednesday with gunmen loyal to the Hezbollah-led opposition, escalating the worst internal crisis since the 1975-90 civil war.

Supporters of Iranian-backed Hezbollah paralysed the capital and cut routes to its sea and air ports by blocking roads with blazing tyres, old cars, heaps of earth and concrete blocks.

An opposition source said the protest campaign would continue until the government rescinded decisions affecting Hezbollah, including a move to take steps against a telecommunications network operated by the group.

Hezbollah, which is backed by Syria and Iran, has led a 17-month-long political campaign against Prime Minister Fouad Siniora’s anti-Syrian cabinet. Friction has already led to bouts of lethal violence.

Security sources said pro-government supporters exchanged assault rifle and grenade fire with Hezbollah sympathisers in the Beirut neighbourhoods of Noueiri, Ras al Nabae and Wata al-Musaitbeh. Some 10 people were wounded in the violence.

Opposition gunmen took over an office of the Future political group led by Saad al-Hariri, leader of the governing coalition, Lebanon’s most influential Sunni politician and a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

Youths loyal to the rival sides pelted each other with stones in Mazraa, one of the Beirut districts where sectarian tensions between Sunnis and Shi’ites have been high.

The army, mostly regarded as neutral during the crisis, deployed in force but did not attempt to remove the barricades.

Government minister Marwan Hamadeh said Hezbollah, a political group with a powerful guerrilla army, was using “military means” to block the airport. The blockade trapped some 300 passengers arriving at the airport.

Tension between the government and Hezbollah escalated sharply on Tuesday when the cabinet said the group’s communication network was “an attack on the sovereignty of the state”. Hezbollah said it was part of its security apparatus and played a major role in its war with Israel in 2006.

Hezbollah was also infuriated by government allegations it was spying on the airport and the cabinet’s decision to remove the head of airport security, a figure close to the opposition, from his post.

“ARMED AND ANGRY”

Provoked by the government’s moves, Hezbollah was “flexing its muscles” in the streets, said Oussama Safa, director of the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies.

“The heat has been turned up. But it’s probably not going to unfold into war. A confrontation is not winnable,” he said.

“Things could get very ugly, but I don’t think they will spread out of hand,” said Paul Salem, director of the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut. “Everyone is armed and angry.”

Hezbollah was the only Lebanese faction allowed to keep its weapons after

the civil war to fight Israeli forces occupying the south.

Israel withdrew in 2000 and the fate of Hezbollah’s weapons is at the heart of the political crisis.

Hezbollah has deemed Siniora’s cabinet illegitimate since its Shi’ite ministers resigned in 2006. The governing coalition has refused to yield to the opposition’s demand for effective veto power in cabinet. The crisis has paralysed much of government and left Lebanon without a president for five months.

Air traffic was suspended for six hours on Wednesday because of a strike by staff taking part in labour union action to demand more pay. The opposition had urged its supporters to back the strike.

Israel’s population stands at 7,282,000

On the eve of Israel’s 60th Independence Day, the country’s population stands at 7,282,000, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

Some 5,499,000 of the population (75.5 percent) are Jews, 1,461,000 (20.1%) are Arabs and the remaining 322,000 (4.4%) are immigrants and their offspring who are not registered as Jews by the Interior Ministry.

According to the CBS statistics, since last Independence Day, the country’s population has risen by some 130,000, with most of this increase being attributed to natural growth. 156,400 new babies have been born and some 18,000 new immigrants have arrived.

When the state was established, there were only 806,000 residents, with this number reach ing its first and second million

in 1949 and 1958 respectively.

In 1990, Israel’s population hit five million and in 1998, after the wave of immigration from the former Soviet Union, it numbered six million.

According to the CBS forecast, the population is expected to reach 10 million by 2030.

144,000 Jews, the Seed of the Woman, Worship Jesus in the Negev!

From where will 144,000 Jews be chosen, and where will they Flee?

What will they testify to some two Million unbelieving Negev Jews?

All the ingredients are in place for the final war of this age to begin when Israel is driven into the Negev Wilderness. No one can be certain as to when this attack will occur, but by guess is that the attack against Israel will occur at some point in time between 2010 and 2015. It is a guess, no more and no less.

But that all the ingredients are in place, I do not consider that to be a guess – I believe it to be a prophetic fact.

New Missionary Campaign in Shadow of Bible Contest Controversy

(IsraelNN.com) The Christian missionary organization known as “Jews for Jesus” is about to launch a new proselytizing campaign in Israel. Their redoubled effort to gain Jewish converts comes on the heels of a controversy over the participation of an Israeli girl who worships Jesus in the annual International Bible Contest, to be held on Independence Day in Jerusalem.

The family of Bat-El Levy, 17, the winner of the Jerusalem District Bible contest for secular public schools, is known to be active in a group whose members call themselves “Messianic Jews”. Her success in the regi onal competiti

on earned Bat-El a place among four students representing Israel in the Bible Contest finals on Independence Day, this Thursday.

Dozens of Jewish youth come to Israel each year for the last leg of the Bible Contest.

In reaction to the participation of a worshiper of Jesus in the Bible Contest, the head of the anti-missionary organization Yad L’Achim sent a letter to rabbinical and lay leaders in the religious community last week calling for efforts to get Levy disqualified. Several rabbis agreed to call for a boycott of the contest if Levy was allowed to compete. Among the rabbis supporting the idea of a boycott are Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, the son of Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu and Tzfat Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef, son of the Shas party’s spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Rabbi Meir Mazuz, dean of Kissei Rachamim Yeshiva, Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Motzkin Rabbi Meir Drukman, and Har Hamor Yeshiva dean Rabbi Tzvi Tau.

In a letter to the Education Minister, Yuli Tamir, Knesset Member Meir Porush (United Torah Judaism) asked last week that Levy be disqualified from the Bible Contest on the grounds that she is not Jewish according to the High Court of Justice. In cases relating to the Law

of Return, granting automatic citizenship to Jewish immigrants, the High Court has ruled that those who profess the Christian faith will not be recognized as Jews regardless of their ethnic background.

Furthermore, Porush said, the Bible Contest itself may be turned into a tool for Christian proselytizing among Jews, which is forbidden by law in Israel.

According to MK Porush, one of the goals of the annual Bible contest, officially called the International Bible Contest for Jewish Youth, is “to strengthen the religious awareness of the students and their appreciation of the Bible as the source of the fulfillment of the commandments and the religious lifestyle.” Therefore, the competition is open only to Jews, which would exclude Jews who believe in or worship Jesus.

Levy Cannot Be Barred

In response to the controversy, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education said that because Levy is listed as Jewish in school records and in the Population Registry, she is Jewish for the purposes of the Bible Contest as well.

Therefore, she cannot be barred.

Yad L’Achim has already sent letters about the situation to the Education Ministry, the Jewish Agency, which sponsors the events surrounding the contest, and to the Bible Contest organizers. The organization is now in touch with some of the contest participants, according to Yad L’Achim director Rabbi Shlomo Dov Lipschitz. He is hoping to convince them to boycott the contest, he said, although he realizes the difficulty in his request considering the great efforts the students made to take part in the competition.

New Jews-for-Jesus Missionary Campaigns

Even as the Bible Contest controversy is reaching its apex, in a letter to supporters the Jews for Jesus organization announced a series of new campaigns in Israel. “The campaigns are scheduled to begin in 2008 and continue through 2013,” the missionary organization announced. “These campaigns could be the most important thing we in Jews For Jesus have ever done….”

Claiming that “one tenth of one percent (.001)” of the Jews in Israel “believe in Jesus,” the missionaries see a positive side in that Israel “is the only place in the world where – when we do street evangelism – we don’t need to wonder who is Jewish. All we have to do is walk outside and talk to everyone we meet!”

There are about 8,000 Jews in Israel who worship Jesus. Yad L’Achim says that there are over 100 missionary, or “Messianic”, churches operating in Israel, representing various branches of Christianity.

Chief rabbis call to cancel Bible Quiz

Both chief rabbis of Israel called on Tuesday to cancel the International Bible Quiz slated for the capital on Independence Day in protest against the participation of a 16-year-old girl who believes Jesus is the messiah.

“Choosing her as a finalist in the International Bible Quiz for Jewish Youth is a transgression of Halacha and is a distortion of the goal and essence of the quiz,” wrote Chief Rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yona Metzger in a letter to Education Minister Yuli Tamir.

“The Chief Rabbinate of Israel vigorously protests [the participation] of this representative… Bible quiz participants have always been Jews who believed in the Torah handed down by Moses.

“The Chief Rabbinate calls to disqualify this girl from taking part in the quiz. If she is not disqualified, we call to cancel the quiz immediately.

“It is unacceptable that a member of a cult that has removed itself from the Jewish faith will take part in a quiz dedicated to a book that has been holy to the Jews since their inception as a people,” the rabbis wrote.

Nevertheless, Tzurit Berenson, 15, from Nahariya, one of the four Israeli finalists, said that she and the other contestants intended to participate in Thursday’s competition.

“We asked our own rabbis what to do and they told us that we should participate,” said Berenson, who added that she had taught herself the Bible and has been preparing for the quiz for years.

Berenson said religious activists have been trying to discourage her and the other participants from taking part in the quiz, “but we have all decided to go ahead with it.”

The controversy surrounding the participation of 16-year-old Bat-El Levi, from Beersheba, began last week as a result of a campaign led by the haredi anti-missionary organization Yad Le’Achim.

Yad Le’Achim discovered that Levi belonged to a messianic Jewish congregation. The organization immediately contacted rabbis and other spiritual leaders. Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, a leading religious Zionist halachic authority, called to boycott the quiz if the messianic Jew did not forfeit her participation. His call was joined by other rabbis aligned with religious Zionism, including Safed Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliahu.

Sources close to the Levi family, who did not deny their ties with a messianic Jewish congregation, said there had been attempts by Yad Le’Achim to dissuade Bat-El from taking part in the competition.

A group of activists demonstrated in Dimona when the participants came to the Negev town for a preliminary quiz.

Messianic Jews believe that Jesus is the savior yet see themselves as Jews.

Tamir’s representative, Lital Apter, said the minister had no intention of canceling the quiz or asking Levi not to take part.

“It is too bad that on the 60th anniversary we are dealing with these sorts of things. This should be a time of celebration, not of controversy.

“The point of the quiz is to check the participants’ knowledge of the Bible, not to scrutinize their faith.

The legal department in the Education Ministry verified that Levi is Jewish according to the criteria of the state.

That’s good enough for us,” Apter said.

The Deniers of Global Warming aren’t Weirdoes!

As I mentioned in the previous Blog, this is the Supplement to it I said we would issue later on today. Those who advocate the theory of what is called “global warming” treat it not as a theory, but as a fact, and any who disagree with them are pushed aside by a media propaganda blitz of science that is not science. It is anything but “fair and balanced!”

As a physical science major and certified meteorologist I have resisted the global warming concept since its baby, the destruction of the ozone layer by man-induced chlorofluorocarbons, reared its ugly head almost 30 years ago.

Heralded Canadian environmentalist Lawrence Solomon’s book, “The Deniers,” exposes the tangled web underlying the “global warming” hypothesis. Even if you have accepted the global warming idea because it is so highly publicized and taught in public school systems, please take the time to read the Washington Times article by Shawn Macomber, which follows, before you cement the concept in your mind as being a scientific fact.

The climate change deniers

When heralded Canadian environmentalist Lawrence Solomon first set out two years ago — on a bet, no less — to find credible dissenters to t he well-entrenc

hed climate change dogma, he thought he might perhaps unearth enough material for a few National Post columns.

Instead, like Alice passing through the looking glass, Mr. Solomon entered a world wherein it soon became clear the much-ballyhooed idea of a “scientific consensus” was as nonsensical as “Jabberwocky.”

“I had picked several of the most essential and/or most widely publicized ‘building blocks’ of the case for catastrophic global warming,” Mr. Solomon writes. “In each case, not only was I able to find a truly eminent, world-renowned leader in the field who disputed the point in question, but in each case the denier had more authority, sometimes far more authority, than those who put forward the building block in the first place.”

The debate over anthropogenic — that is, human induced — climate change, is, in other words, just a bit more complicated than Al Gore suggested on “Oprah.” Few books have captured this cognitive dissonance as well as “The Deniers,” Mr. Solomon’s essential, engrossing travelogue through the world of climate-change dissent.

In “The Deniers”‘ deniers are not the usual suspects paraded out by a media eager for Scopes Monkey Trial II: Flat Earthers’ Revenge. They aren’t blustery, ill-informed television pundits or slash-and-burn polemicists.

Rather, Mr. Solomon introduces us to legendary scientists with impeccable resumes and prestigious appointments at major universities and mainstream research institutes; thoughtful, serious professionals who, at their own professional peril, looked at one or another of the shibboleths of global warming alarmism — from the debunked “hockey stick” graphic and misread ice core samples to the amateurish or incorrect computer models and fear-mongering — and bravely refused to join the herd, profitable as that may be

these days.

Likewise, Mr. Solomon’s own position as founder and executive direc tor

of the well-regarded international environmental group Energy Probe makes it considerably more difficult for opponents to shellac him as a right-wing reactionary moonlighting as an oil company stooge — though, of course, no slander has been proven entirely off limits for demagogues who believe they are the Jack Bauers incarnate in a special environmental doomsday season of 24. (“There’s no time for debate, Chloe, we’ve got to regulate now!”) Witness “60 Minutes” reporter Scott Pelly’s answer when queried as to why his reports featured no global warming skeptics: “If I do an interview with Elie Wiesel, am I required as a journalist to find a Holocaust denier?”

So who, exactly, has convened the conspiracy of silence Mr.

Solomon is now attempting to shatter with “The Deniers?” Well, it’s … complicated. As the author would learn, many highly-qualified scientists who question even some small aspect of the global warming orthodoxy “don’t want to be found at all and try very hard not to appear as dissenters. They have no wish to be called names in the press, or to lose their jobs, or to have their funding cut off as many deniers have.”

Beyond the disturbing issue of self-censorship, however, stand those for whom the sexy business of saving the world is much too gratifying to bother with any credible contrarianism.

Who wants to just live on an ever-changing planet when one could be a mini-Zeus lording over all the elements

? Thus, even a balanced scientific report can end up resembling a lost quatrain from the Book of Revelation in the hands of regulation-happy politicians and reporters with small paychecks and large hero complexes.

Never mind that, as Mr.

Solomon demonstrates to great effect in the closing pages of “The Deniers,” the practical effect of popular climate change regulation schemes will likely be old-growth forests in Third World countries felled to make way for profitable “carbon intensive plantations.” (“Every time we buy carbon offsets to salve our consciences at flying in a jet,” Mr. Solomon writes, “we are helping to dispossess someone, somewhere, by boosting the carbon credit value of their land.”) Forget that bio-fuel fads are pricing the world’s poor out of sustenance. Ignore the myriad other environmental problems that could be addressed with the resources eaten up to solve a problem that very well may not exist.

“The Deniers” is a timely, necessary antidote to a political and scientific discussion poisoned by hubristic groupthink and the kind of scorched earth (mis)behavior that inevitably arises when a movement becomes so uncritically wedded to the commandments of a pseudo-religion its adherents would rather destroy their adversaries than risk debating them.
