The Iranian Revolutionaries rose to international power when Jimmy Carter was our President, and I would hate to see someone in the same office with his characteristics when the Iran revolutionaries lead an assault against Israel, and a time of great tribulation breaks out on this planet, but if conservatives do not go out in force to vote, I have fears that may very well happen.

If Obama is elected President then my guesstimate of an attack against Israel at some point in time between 2010 and 2015 is a sure thing. The European Union has learned after years of “talking” with Iran, the net result is zero.

From 1934 to 1939, many world leaders talked to another maniac called Hitler, and the results are legendary, eventually leading to the Jewish Holocaust.

Now Obama and Jimmy Carter want to talk to religious maniacs who lead Iran and Hamas, and such talks will lead to another Tribulation Period Jewish Holocaust, costing some Two million Jewish lives in Israel at the hands of Islam. I was raised as a “yellow dog” Democrat and, as such, voted for Jimmy Carter when he ran for President, especially since he was a Baptist. It was the last time I ever voted for a Baptist or a Democrat for President. Please forgive both my religious bias and my political bias, but I learned both from the Baptist Democrat named Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter and Tom McElmurry are two very different types of what are labeled “Baptists,” and hold two very different political viewpoints.

Obama again calls for talks with Iran

Shifting the focus of the presidential race to the Iraq war, John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton bickered during Senate hearings about bringing troops home, while Barack Obama repeated his position that a dialogue must be held with Iran if the US seeks to improve the situation in Iraq.

According to Obama, while he wants US troops out of Iraq, he would not initiate a precipitous withdrawal. And he said talking regularly to the Iranians is critical to getting to the point where it would be safe to end American involvement.

“I do not believe we are going to be able to stabilize the situation without them,” Obama said.

Iran has long had aspirations to lead the region, not just under the current regime. They believe that their past entitles them to have a nuclear bomb and to put them in the same rank as the large, important powers of the world. Iran propagates a particular, very radical version of Islam, and has a jihadist agenda to spread this version everywhere – not only to Palestine but also to Andalusia (Spain of today).

Iran’s Covert Campaign to Reshape Iraq

“The hand of Iran was very clear in recent weeks,” Gen. David Petraeus told a Senate committee Tuesday. But it has a long history.

Iran’s covert campaign to reshape Iraq has been clear since the U.S. invasion in March 2003. Iranian intelligence officers prepared lists of Iraqis for assassination in the weeks and months after the war began; they sent Iranian-trained mullahs to take over the Shiite mosques of central and southern Iraq that had been smashed by Saddam Hussein; they pumped an estimated $12 million a week in covert financial support to their allies as the January 2005 election approached; they infiltrated all the major Shiite political parties, and many of the Sunni ones, too.

The Iranians have fixed the political game.

They are on all sides at once. They have links to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his Dawa party; they funnel money to the Badr organization of Shiite cleric Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, which is a key recruiting ground for the Iraqi army; they provide weapons, training and command and control for the most extreme factions of the Mahdi Army.

Moqtada al-Sadr, the Mahdi Army’s nominal leader, is living in the Iranian city of Qom.

The Iranians were able to start the recent trouble in Basra and Baghdad through one set of operatives, then negotiate a cease-fire through another. In short, they play the Iraqi lyre on all its strings.

DAMASCUS: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday offered to help bolster security in Lebanon and voiced support for inter-Lebanese talks to solve a protracted political crisis.

Syria “stands ready to provide all possible help which the Lebanese could request, to guarantee security and stability in Lebanon,” Assad said,

according to the official SANA news agency. Assad made the remarks during talks with Lebanese parliament speaker and opposition leader Nabih Berri.

The Syrian president also expressed support for “an internal Lebanese dialogue” saying such talks between Beirut’s feuding politicians would help resolve the crisis that has plagued Lebanon for more than a year.

After the two-hour meeting, Berri told reporters that Syria was putting “no conditions” on the inter-Lebanese talks which he has been trying to organise. Berri said the visit to Damascus had provided him “with a new boost to launch a dialogue in Lebanon aimed at electing… General Michel Sleiman to the Lebanese presidency”—a reference to the Lebanese army chief.

Berri’s spokesman Ali Hamdan had earlier said that the speaker intends to gather Lebanon’s political leaders for talks before April 22 when parliament is due to convene for a fresh attempt to elect a president.

Lebanon’s has been without a president for more than four months amid bickering between the ruling coalition, backed by the West and most Arab states, and the Hizbullah-led opposition, backed by Syria and Iran.

Both sides have agreed on Sleiman as a consensus candidate for the post but continue to bicker about the make-up of a new cabinet. Parliamentary sessions to vote for a new president have been postponed 17 times since last September.

On Sunday, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora accused Syria of holding his country hostage by blocking the election of a new president, following talks in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Last month, an Arab summit in Damascus failed to clinch a breakthrough on Lebanon, spotlighting instead the rift between host Syria and its pro-Western rivals Egypt and Saudi Arabia, who sent only low-level delegations.

BEIRUT – Lebanese parliament speaker and opposition leader Nabih Berri is in Syria for talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a bid to resolve Lebanon’s protracted political crisis, his spokesman said.

“This visit comes after Berri’s announcement to launch a dialogue to resolve the crisis. He will meet with President Assad as well as other officials,” Ali Hamdan said.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora on Sunday accused Syria of holding Lebanon hostage by blocking the election of a new president, following talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Siniora told reporters he saw the Lebanese-Syrian relationship as one of siblings and “one sibling cannot kidnap his brother and keep him hostage in the hope of getting a ransom,” he said.

He urged Arab foreign ministers to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the political deadlock in Lebanon and the country’s strained relations with Syria.

Siniora also called for the implementation of an Arab League-sponsored initiative which calls for the election of General Michel Sleiman as president, the formation of a national unity government and a new electoral law.

Lebanon has been without a president since November, when pro-Syrian Emile Lahoud stepped down with no successor elected.

Although the two camps support Sleiman as the consensus candidate, they remain at loggerheads over power-sharing in the future government.

Last month, an Arab summit in Damascus failed to clinch a breakthrough on Lebanon, instead spotlighting the rift between host Syria and boycotting US allies who blame Beirut’s political crisis on Damascus.

Half the leaders of the 22-member Arab League, including those of pro-Western Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, boycotted the Damascus summit.

Syrian official: We’re prepared for war

A message of reassurance from Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to Damascus Monday in attempt to assuage Syrian fears over Israel’s nationwide drill has done nothing to curb the rhetoric coming out of the Syrian capital. A senior Syrian official said Tuesday that Syria will be prepared for all possible scenarios as soon as the “language of understanding” with Israel over the peace process comes to an end.

“When the language of understanding with Israel regarding the peace process comes to an end, Syria will be prepared for any possibility,” Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said in an interview with the government-controlled Al-Thura newspaper. “The Israelis aren’t aware that we know that every war has its own path… The more Israel tries to generate this centralized atmosphere in order to reap benefit from the July downfall (editor’s note: the Second Lebanon War), [Syria] cannot but also draw plans in advance of a conflict.”

Mekdad went on to say that the drill was meant to rehabilitate the IDF’s deterrence, which he claimed was lost in the Second Lebanon War, restore

the confidence of the Israeli public in the army and generate an atmosphere of readiness amongst the ranks of the military.

“If Syria is the target of all of this, know that we are following the drill and are also developing our capabilities and our plans to face the Israeli maneuvers,” he warned.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert used Sunday morning’s cabinet meeting as a forum to send a placatory message to Syria by emphasizing that Israel was not contradicting its expressed willingness to negotiate with the country by conducting a drill in the North. “If the conditions are right, we will indeed turn towards peace,” he said.

During the weekly cabinet meeting, Olmert emphasized Israel’s intentions for the emergency drills and made clear to Damascus that the exercises ought not be taken as a provocation, reiterating his desire that Syria understand this message.

“The State of Israel is not seeking violent confrontation in the North,” Olmert stated. “We’ve said it more than once that we have an interest in peace negotiations with Syria – they know what our expectations are and we know theirs,” he continued. “If [the right] conditions come to fruition, we will indeed seize the opportunity.”

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti daily Al-Jarida reported Tuesday that Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni will visit Qatar next week and is expected meet senior Syrian envoys in order to “complete the covert negotiations between Israel and Syria.”

According to the report, which quoted sources in Jerusalem, talks between the two countries have been going on over the past two years with the intention of setting down the groundwork for a peace agreement.

In Tosef., Shab. (vii. [viii.] 23), and generally in post-Biblical literature, the Canaanites are usually spoken of as the Amorites (compare Assumptio Mosis, xi. 16; B. M. 25b); and they were characterized by R. Jose, the chronicler, as the most intractable of all nations. To the apocryphal writers of the first and second pre-Christian century they are the main representatives of heathen superstition, loathed as idolaters, in whose ordinances Israelites may not walk (Lev. xviii. 3). A special section of the Talmud (Tosef., Shab. vi.-vii. [vii.-viii.]; Bab. Shab. 67a et seq.) is devoted to the various superstitions called “The Ways of the Amorites.” According to the Book of Jubilees (xxix. [9] 11), “the former terrible giants, the Rephaim, gave way to the Amorites, an evil and sinful people whose wickedness surpasses that of any other, and whose life will be cut short on earth.” In the Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch (lx.) they are symbolized by “black water” on account of “their black art, their witchcraft and impure mysteries, by which they contaminated Israel in the time of the Judges.” This refers to the strange story of Kenaz, preserved in the “Chronicle of Jerahmeel” (Cohn in “Jew. Quart. Rev.” 1898, pp. 294 et seq., and translation of Gaster, p. 166), which relates how the tribes of Israel learned all their wickedness from the Amorites, the masters of witchcraft, whose books they kept hidden under Mount Abarim, and whose wonder-working idols—seven holy nymphs—they had concealed beneath Mount Shechem. Each of these idols was adorned with precious stones.

When Abraham arrived in the land, although he had been definitely promised it by Almighty God, he did not receive it, nor did his descendants for several centuries afterwards. Why? “for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full” (Gen. 15:16). What was the iniquity of the Amorites?

Archaeology has given us the answer.

Inscribed baked clay tablets at Ras Shamra (Ugarit) in Syria, and at other sites, have revealed something of the horrible nature of the Amorite religious practices. They worshipped gods who have been shown to be sexual perverts of the most grotesque kind, and who had no respect for the sanctity of human life. Countless children were sacrificed to their gods by being thrown into the fires of their god Moloch. Israel was forewarned about this abominable practice in Leviticus 18:21.

Also, funerary jars have been found containing the remains of young children distorted by suffocation as they struggled for life, after having been buried alive as a sacrifice to Canaanite gods. Such children have been found in the foundations of Canaanite houses. Thus archaeological discoveries have revealed a people whose moral sense was so debased that the God of Israel could not tolerate them in His land. Insurgent Israel, under God’s instructions, was to purge out this people who were not fit to live. It was an essential task to be accomplished before the land was fit to be occupied.

These Amorites were to be judged by their own standard of the expendability of human life, even of their own children.

That incoming Israel failed to complete this cleaning operation became the direct cause of their own moral degeneration, leading to their eventual dispersion. Israel became tainted by adopting some of these heathen practices. Knowing beforehand of this very real danger, the God of Israel clearly instructed His people of the need to be utterly ruthless. By so doing He was showing Himself to be, in fact, the loving Shepherd of His sheep, caring for their welfare in a very practical manner, by issuing these drastic instructions to cleanse the Promised Land on His behalf.

I would say the iniquity of the Gentiles in the field of religious belief has now reached what it was prophesied to become in the latter times in I Timothy 4:1-3.

I Timothy 4:1-3 – Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

And I would also say that the iniquity of the Gentiles in the field of the morality of mankind has now reached what it was prophesied to become in the last days in II Timothy 3:1-4.

II Timothy 3:1-4 – This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

So, considering Scriptures show how the Lord waited for the iniquity of the Amorites to “come to the full” before he poured out judgment on them, and in considering the I Timothy and II Timothy Scriptures, I am convinced that judgment for this generation is not a far distant event, because it appears the “fullness of iniquity” in both Jews and Gentiles has been reached, and the “the fullness of the Gentile Age” is about to close, to be replaced by the glorious Age of Christ in which Israel reigns under him as the Nation of Nations.

The new revived brand of the Islamic faith, resurrected from the ashes of the great Islamic Caliphate Empire that blanketed North Africa, and the Middle East to India, is not rising from the dead as a radicalized Jihad extremist faith by accident. It is all part of prophecy, and the new form

of belief out of which the Antichrist will soon arise.

He will be the leader of a Jihad (Holy War) which, in reality, will be the most Unholy War ever fought by man on this earth.

The argument over what jihad means, however, is old news and never likely to be resolved without the reappearance of the Prophet himself. What interests Ms. Jalal is how the argument explains the broader political history of Islam. She begins in Islam’s first century, with the extremist Kharajite sect, who defined jihad as “legitimate violence against the enemies of Islam, both internal and external” and declared it a pillar of the faith. The Kharajites were ignored by the rest of Islam’s early scholars.

As Islam arrived in India in the 10th century, the new rulers, faced with the task of governing non-Muslims, turned to their scholars for guidance. Could they implement Islamic law in a non-Muslim country without causing unrest

? If they did not implement Islamic law, did they thereby betray their faith? Islamic jurists became adept at drafting laws to accommodate Muslims and non-Muslims alike, especially in the commercial sphere. They also found ways to justify their rulers’ use of force, in violation of Quranic doctrine, marking what Ms. Jalal calls “the kiss of death for any sort of Islamic ethics.”

Over the centuries rulers fought with the ulama over who got to define what was Islamic and un-Islamic. Thus the body of law known as sharia is no more than the product of years of battle between various interests over how to interpret the Quran. To view sharia in this light — as if it were simply common rather than religious law — usefully saps it of much of its heat.

A roguish cast populates Ms. Jalal’s book. We see Sayyid Ahmad of Rai Bareilly, a revered early-19th-century Islamic warrior, leading a rabble of Muslim fighters who hoped to sweep through the Punjab and even into China. He sought to prove himself to Islamic hard-liners by implementing an extreme version of sharia among the tribes in what is now Pakistan’s North-West Frontier Province.

Those who did not say their prayers — or who, say, bathed naked in a river — were severely punished. His actions antagonized the populace, and eventually he was betrayed (and killed) at a battle against the Sikhs in 1831. His legend, however, continues to inspire Islamic fighters in the borderlands of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Ms. Jalal also provides a rich portrait of Abul Ala Mawdudi (1903-79), the Indian-born writer who encouraged terrorism in the name of jihad.

Mawdudi believed that the West had seized on jihad and softened its meaning and that certain Muslims had modified their faith in order to satisfy the West’s claim that jihad did not mean war against non-Muslims.

Such “apologists” disgusted Mawdudi, who argued that a war against colonial oppression would in fact be a war to regain self-respect and the ability to practice Islam as it was meant to be practiced. For Mawdudi, this meant rigidly. Women were to be excluded from public life, he argued, because their menstrual cycles left them physically and mentally infirm for jobs outside their homes. ation in the West, he believed, was a form of exploitation by capitalists.

Finally, Ms. Jalal arrives in contemporary Pakistan, where mujahideen publish magazines glorifying their violent adventures with metaphysical tales of warriors rescued by animals or surviving multiple bullet wounds. She quotes from the recruiting literature of one Islamic militant group. It reads, as she says, more like “an advertisement for a trendy spa”: “Do you want that peace and tranquility prevail in Muslim society, humanity is adored with the virtues of piety, morality and other attributes of good character?”

It is all a long way from the pinnacles of Islamic thought and literature. “Jihad in the modern world has become a political weapon with which to threaten believers and unbelievers alike,” Ms. Jalal writes. And the salvation of the word can only come from Muslims returning it to its original meaning — the struggle for high ethical values and submission to God.

Passover by the Law was cancelled some 1978 years ago, and the way to God and eternal salvation of the soul is no longer hidden behind the veil of the Law in the Temple, it has been exposed to both Jew and Gentile in the sacrifice of Christ, who kept every jot and tittle of it.

Galatians 3:24-26 – Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. [26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 2:20,21 – I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Israel might as well cancel the Passover! They kept offering Passover Lambs until 70 A.D. at the Temple of Herod, but God would no longer accept them because the Lamb of God had offered the sacrifice on his cross that confirmed the covenant of grace to both Jew and Gentile.

He was cut off by his own people in the midst of Daniel’s Seventh Week as he confirmed the covenant on the cross. The sacrifice and oblation by the Jews ceased to be accepted by God at his temple at that time. God cut off the acceptance of their worship because of the spreading of their abominations in their offerings. They had turned his house into a den of thieves.

Daniel 9:27 – And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. The Temple, the House of God, was left spiritually desolate by their rejection of his eternal offering of himself for sin.

Let’s cancel Passover

Pesach is all about obsessive cleanliness and bad food; let’s get rid of it

Let’s be honest here: Passover is an unbearable holiday. I want to see one person (who does not own shares of a cleaning supplies company) get up and declare what he expects of this holiday.

Three weeks ahead of zero hour, I already constantly encounter nosy questions: “So, you started cleaning up for Pesach already?” Everyone wants to know if you are already ahead of them when it comes to scrubbing the freezer, or whether you are still stuck in the vegetable compartment.

Everyone feels they must do something ahead of this hygienic holiday, before their lovely uncles and aunts show up at their doorstep bearing flowers and a gift from IKEA.

There is no doubt that this holiday breaks even those who somehow survived the cruel tests of Hanukah and Purim. After all, everyone is already looking for ways to run away.

Travel agents are offering a Seder in Turkey, Greece, or even Bangkok.

It took the Israelites 40 years to reach the Promised Land and now that they finally made it, they are going back to the beaches of Sinai. Nobody really wants to be here when the Seder happens. Nobody wishes to be struck with sudden “freedom” from the skies.

To be honest, I also don’t feel like being a free man. I find it convenient to be told what to do. For example, I prefer not to go through the torture of choosing gifts for my mother and mother-in-law.

I even prefer to build cities in the service of an Egyptian emperor and to collect straw without any social benefits rather than polish windows.

Besides, what’s this story with freedom

? Imagine a regular Jew just minding his own business when suddenly he is surprisingly told that from this day on he is a free man. A special holiday was even developed to that end. Who wouldn’t be struck by fear in the face of such grave news

?

Subjugated to something

Therefore, the Jew immediately looks for hard labor that would make the distress of freedom easier for him. For that reason, he cleanses the air-conditioner, vigorously scrubs the toilet, and polishes the kitchen counter.

He is unable to stop for a moment and think like a free man. He must become subjugated to something. This is likely the reason why the neurotic people of Israel turned the Holiday of Freedom into an obsessive holiday of cleanliness.

So again we shall be forced to eat matzo ball, and again grandma will claim that as opposed to what the horrific flavor suggests, we are not eating made-in-China hydraulic oil, but rather, original borscht from Poland, and again hospitals shall receive fools who crammed their stomach via over-consumption of kosher-for-Passover cookies made up of coconut and peanuts. So who needs this holiday? Why do we need to drag it out over a whole week?

Therefore, I ask the proper authorities to take care of this and annul

this long and needless holiday. No, we have no interest in becoming free men.

Perhaps, we can replace it by doubling or tripling the duration of Independence Day.

These days you hear a lot about the world

financial crisis. But there’s another world crisis under way — and it’s hurting a lot more people.

I’m talking about the food crisis. Over the past few years the prices of wheat, corn, rice and other basic foodstuffs have doubled or tripled, with much of the increase tak

ing place just in the last few months.

High food prices dismay even relatively well-off Americans — but they’re truly devastating in poor countries, where food often accounts for more than half a family’s spending.

There have already been food riots around the world.

Food-supplying countries, from Ukraine to Argentina, have been limiting exports in an attempt to protect domestic consumers, leading to angry protests from farmers — and making things even worse in countries that need to import food.

How did this happen? The answer is a combination of long-term trends, bad luck — and bad policy.

Let’s start with the things that aren’t anyone’s fault.

First, there’s the march of the meat-eating Chinese — that is, the growing number of people in emerging economies who are, for the first time, rich enough to start eating like Westerners. Since it takes about 700 calories’ worth of animal feed to produce a 100-calorie piece of beef, this change in diet increases the overall demand for grains.

Second, there’s the price of oil. Modern farming is highly energy-intensive: a lot of B.T.U.’s go in to producing fertilizer, running trac

tors and, not least, transporting farm products to consumers. With oil persistently above $100 per barrel, energy costs have become a major factor driving up agricultural costs.

High oil prices, by the way, also have a lot to do with the growth of China and other emerging economies. Directly and indirectly, these rising economic powers are competing with the rest of us for scarce resources, including oil and farmland, driving up prices for raw materials of all sorts.

Third, there has been a run of bad weather in key growing areas. In particular, Australia, normally the world’s second-largest wheat exporter, has been suffering from an epic drought.

O.K., I said that these factors behind the food crisis aren’t anyone’s fault, but that’s not quite true.

The rise of China and other emerging economies is the main force driving oil prices, but the invasion of Iraq — which proponents promised would lead to cheap oil — has also reduced oil supplies below what they would have been otherwise.

And bad weather, especially the Australian drought, is probably related to climate change. So politicians and governments that have stood in the way of action on greenhouse gases bear some responsibility for food shortages.

Where the effects of bad policy are clearest, however, is in the rise of demon ethanol and other biofuels.

The subsidized conversion of crops into fuel was supposed to promote energy independence and help limit global warming. But this promise was, as Time magazine bluntly put it, a “scam.”

This is especially true of corn ethanol: even on optimistic estimates, producing a gallon of ethanol from corn uses most of the energy the gallon contains. But it turns out that even seemingly “good” biofuel policies, like Brazil’s use of ethanol from sugar cane, accelerate the pace of climate change by promoting deforestation.

And meanwhile, land used to grow biofuel feedstock is land not available to grow food, so subsidies to biofuels are a major factor in the food crisis. You might put it this way: people are starving in Africa so that American politicians can court votes in farm states.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering: all the remaining presidential contenders are terrible on this issue.

One more thing: one reason the food crisis has gotten so severe, so fast, is that major players in the grain market grew complacent.

Governments and private grain dealers used to hold large inventories in normal times, just in case a bad harvest created a sudden shortage. Over the years, however, these precautionary inventories were allowed to shrink, mainly because everyone came to believe that countries suffering crop failures could always import the food they needed.

This left the world food balance highly vulnerable to a crisis affecting many countries at once — in much the same way that the marketing of complex financial securities, which was supposed to diversify away risk, left world financial markets highly vulnerable to a systemwide shock.

What should be done? The most immediate need is more aid to people in distress: the U.N.’s World Food Program put out a desperate appeal for more funds.

We also need a pushback against biofuels, which turn out to have been a terrible mistake.

But it’s not clear how much can be done.

Cheap food, like cheap oil, may be a thing of the past.
