It is Time for Man to Prepare for Who Will End it!

Please take the time to read the following four excerpts concerning the preparations for war in the Middle East. I am well aware I sound like a broken record, and while I do not think it likely that a massive war will break out in the Middle East prior to some point in time between 2010 and 2015, surely it is possible by now for you to understand that a war is inevitable, perhaps even before this time.

My reason for starting this Web Site in 2000 was for this purpose – To advise the readers that whatever you intend to do about receiving Christ as your Savior, or submitting to baptism after you have been saved, or serving him in one of his local churches, you had jolly well better do it NOW!

To those of you who have been successful in fighting off the Holy Spirit every time he convicted you of doing what Paul said was required of you in Acts and Romans to be saved, you had better respond while you still have time by calling on Jesus Christ to save you.

Acts 20:20,21 – And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, [21] Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:17 – So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:13 – For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Acts 4:12 – Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

If you want the rest that only Christ can give your troubled soul, NOW is the time to be saved. The prophesied events of II Thessalonians 1:7-10, are no longer in the far distant future. You have no guarantee of being physically alive tomorrow on any given day

of your present life. It is time to let Christ give your troubled soul rest NOW in this life.

Matthew 11:28 – Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

II Thessalonians 1:7-10 – And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, [8] In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: [9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; [10] When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

This was the testimony they believed in that day. It is the testimony of God. Today is the day to believe it, not tomorrow.

I Corinthians 2:1-5 – And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, DECLARING UNTO YOU THE TESTIMONY OF GOD. [2] For I determined not to know ANY THING among you, SAVE JESUS CHRIST, AND HIM CRUCIFIED.

[3] And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. [4] And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: [5] THAT YOUR FAITH SHOULD NOT STAND IN THE WISDON OF MEN, BUT IN THE POWER OF GOD.

I Corinthians 1:18 –For THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS is to them that perish foolishness; BUT UNTO US WHICH ARE SAVED IT IS THE POWER OF GOD.

Hizbullah Militants Training in Iran for Next War with Israel

In southern Lebanon, Hizbullah has devised new battle plans that include cross-border raids into Israel and has mounted a sweeping recruitment and training drive, even marshaling non-Shiites and former Israeli-allied militiamen into new reservist units. “The holy fighters are completely focused on the next war, even ignoring families and friends.

They are just waiting for the next war,” says Jawad, a Hizbullah fighter. Hizbullah continues to recruit and train new combatants at a furious pace. Many recruits are sent to Iran for 45-day advanced training sessions, according to Hizbullah fighters.

Jawad says he recently returned from Iran, his second trip in a year, where he was taught how to fire antitank missiles. “The holy fighters are leaving universities, shops, places of work to go and train,” he says.

New tactics are being taught, including how to “seize and hold” positions. “Next time, we will be on the offensive and it will be a totally different kind of war,” said one local commander. Jawad says that the next war will be “fought more in Israel than in Lebanon.” Hizbullah fighters presently are deployed along a new front line above the Litani River, north of the area patrolled by UNIFIL. In the past 18 months, Hizbullah has purchased land from local Druze and Christians, constructed an entire Shiite-populated village, and turned the area into sealed-off military zones.

“There are armed and uniformed Hizbullah men crawling all over the hills.

We often hear gunfire and explosions from their training,” says one local resident.

Hizbullah Leader Warns of Offensive on Israel

A high-ranking Hizbullah official told the Syrian magazine Al-Hakika that the party would launch an offensive on Israel in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 in case of a new war, the Iranian news agency Fars reported.

“In case they wage any war in the future…there will be a counter attack behind the front lines…and for the first time since 1948 in Palestine itself,” the official said.

Assad: Syria is preparing for war

Syria sees war with Israel as a real possibility, and is preparing for such an event, Syrian President Bashar Assad said Wednesday to Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar. Nevertheless, he said that the likelihood of war with Israel breaking out is low under the current circumstances.

Speaking to a group of Arab intellectuals, the Syrian president added that whilst war was not a preferable option, “if Israel declares war on Lebanon and Syria or if America declares war on Iran,” Damascus will be prepared.

“We must keep American interest in mind,” continued Assad. “In the last Lebanon war it was evident that Israel wanted to pull out at a specific time, however the American government forced them to continue.”

He added that “we know there is someone in the American government who is interested in this war, and we are preparing for it.”

In contrast, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Thursday that Israel and Syria have been exchanging messages to clarify expectations of any future peace treaty. “They know what we want from them, and I know full well what they want from us,” he told Ma’ariv.

War with Israel is possible and we are getting ready – Assad

The Syrian ruler Bashar Assad made this statement in a speech in Damascus reported Thursday, April 17.

Earlier this week, DEBKAfile’s military sources reported that Damascus has deployed the 10th armored corps at the Massaneh crossing of Mount Hermon. It links up with the northwestern positions the 14th division took up last month on the Syrian-Israeli border which cuts through the Hermon range.

Syrian troops are now strung along a continuous crescent-shaped line from the central Lebanese mountains through Mt Dov on the western slopes of Mt. Hermon and up to southeastern Lebanon. This deployment, commanding Syria’s Israeli and Lebanese borders, is under the command of the president’s brother, Maher Assad.

The 10th armored corps was moved forward straight after Syria’s snap civil defense exercise which crashed after three hours last Thursday, April 10. The exercise was ordered without notice by president Bashar Assad on the last day of Israel’ s five-day homeland defen

se drill.

DEBKAfile’s military sources are criticizing Israel officials for attributing Syria’s latest military movements to domestic troubles inside the Syrian leadership. They say this is throwing sand in the public’s eyes and at one with the government’s practice of playing down all the heightened military threats to Israel – whether from Syria, the Lebanese Hizballah or the Palestinian Hamas in Gaza.

The IDF’s Northern Command officers report that the Syrian army’s buildup opposite Israel has accelerated in April and warn that its units are arrayed for a quick transition to attack mode.

sions on the border running through Mt Hermon should have been a wake-up call for the government in Jerusalem, they say, and elicited counter-moves to show Damascus that Israel is ready to meet every contingency.

Sunday, April 13, prime minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas met briefly to rough out the position Abbas will put before President George W. Bush whom he meets at the White House in ten days. Olmert made the gesture of licensing the entry to Israel of 5,000 Palestinian construction workers. This gesture was challenged by security services as a carrying the risk of terrorist infiltration and by economic leaders who say the Palestinians will take Israeli jobs.

The current exploits of the latest American Benedict Arnold playing the role of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, plans even further visits to the terrorist table in the Middle East. I have no doubt that Jimmy Carter thinks he is doing the right thing, but so did the Jewish King Hezekiah when he gave the Babylonians the open incentive to later conquer the city of Jerusalem, which is precisely what the Hamas and all the rest of the Jihad groups of radicals and nations are planning to do.

Hezekiah, great King that he was, unwittingly sold out his people for a time of “peace and truth” in his lifetime by befriending the very ones who would conquer Jerusalem and all of Judah. Jimmy Carter is now unwittingly adding to a process that is going to do the same thing all over again.

Jerusalem will be conquered and all of Judea. Israel will be driven out of the land from Dan to Beersheba into the vast wilderness of the Negev, where she will remain for three and one-half years. Please forgive me for being so hard on Jimmy and Hezekiah, because nothing could stop God’s future punishment of Israel in the days of the carrying away by the Babylonians of the Israelis into captivity, and nothing will stop the driving of Israel into the Negev Wilderness.

Both Hezekiah and Jimmy meant well, but they represent players in a process of God’s dealings with both Jew and Gentile for unbelief in two eras of time.

ISRAEL’S PUNISHMENT FOR UNBELIEF AFTER HEZEKIAH

Isaiah 39:1-8 – At that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he

had been sick, and was recovered. [2] And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. [3] Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men

? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon. [4] Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

ISRAEL’S PUNISHMENT FOR UNBELIEF AFTER JIMMY

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Romans 11:20-28 – Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: [21] For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. [22] Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. [23] And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. [24] For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree

which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? [25] For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. [26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: [27] For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. [28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching THE ELECTION, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.

A remnant of Jews will be saved during the period of time after the sounding of the seventh trump to Christ’s Second Advent. They have been ELECTED by God to go into the Millennial Reign in BODIES OF FLESH. They were not saved before the rapture, which occurs on the sounding of the seventh trumpet in Revelation 11:15. They will be the Jews that begin the Millennial in THE FLESH when their Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ returns with the saved in glorified bodies at his SECOND ADVENT.

The ELECT of Romans 11:28 and Matthew 24:22 are the same group.

Matthew 24:21,22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

[22] And except those days should be shortened, there should NO FLESH be saved: but for THE ELECT’S SAKE those days shall be shortened.

Romans 11:32 – For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

II Corinthians 3:14-16 – But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

[15] But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. [16] Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

This Elect Remnant will survive the vials of God’s wrath by His Grace in the Tribulation Period IN THE FLESH after the sounding of the seventh trumpet in I Corinthians 15:51,52, Revelation 10:7 and 11:15.

Acts 2:19-21 – And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: [20] The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: [21] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Luke 21:25-28 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; [26] Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. [27] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. [28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Carter embraces Islamic Hamas official

JERUSALEM – Defying U.S. and Israeli policy shunning Hamas as a terror group, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter warmly embraced a leader of the Islamic militants during a visit to the West Bank.

Israel on Tuesday accused Carter, the broker of the first Arab-Israeli peace accord three decades ago, of dignifying” extremists. But the ex-president vowed to meet Hamas’ supreme leader later this week in Syria.

On Wednesday, Carter has a meeting scheduled with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists.

Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is on a private peace mission to the Middle East. His itinerary also includes stops in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Syria where the virulently anti-Israel Hamas movement is headquartered.

He then returns to Israel next Monday.

Carter has been shunned by Israel this week, and the White House has criticized him for his willingness to meet with Hamas leaders. Carter says the U.S. and Israel should stop isolating the militant Islamic group, whose control of the Gaza Strip threatens to undermine Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.

Since Syria and Hamas will have to be involved in a final peace agreement, they have to be involved in discussions that lead to final peace,” Carter said in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Also Tuesday, Carter laid a wreath at Yasser Arafat’s grave at the government compound in Ramallah, breaking with U.S. policy. President George W. Bush cut off contacts with Arafat before he died in 2004, blaming the longtime Palestinian leader for the breakdown of peace talks and subsequent wave of violence. Bush did not visit Arafat’s grave when he visited Ramallah this year.

During the ceremony, a two-man honor guard escorted Carter and his wife, Rosalynn. Carter placed the wreath on the grave then solemnly nodded before turning away. Later, a Palestinian host told Carter that Arafat’s resting place was temporary, and the Palestinians hope to move his remains to Jerusalem one day.

Later, Carter attended a reception organized by his office for Palestinian dignitaries in Ramallah. At the gathering, Carter embraced Nasser Shaer, a senior Hamas politician, meeting participants said.

We hugged each other, and it was a warm reception,” Shaer said. Carter asked what he can do to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israel … and I told him the possibility for peace is high.”

Shaer, who served as deputy prime minister and education minister in the Hamas-led Palestinian government that unraveled last year, is considered a leading member of the Islamic militant group’s pragmatic wing. After a stint in an Israeli prison last year, he is now a professor at a West Bank university, teaching comparative religion.

Palestinians say Shaer, an academic, was not involved in Hamas attacks against Israel, and Israel has never charged him with violent activity.

Carter’s office refused to comment on the closed meeting. However, embraces between men are a common custom in Arab culture.

Israel has said Carter’s talks with Hamas will only embolden Palestinian extremists and hurt the moderate Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, as he tries to make peace with the Jewish state. Abbas is in a bitter rivalry with Hamas, which routed his forces in the Gaza Strip last year and seized control of the area.

Hamas, which is committed to Israel’s destruction and has killed more than 250 Israelis in suicide bombings, is considered a terrorist group by Israel and the U.S. Carter is scheduled to meet Khaled Mashaal, the group’s exiled leader, in Damascus, Syria, on Friday.

The official Hamas position until this day is that it won’t negotiate with Israel or recognize it under any circumstance,” Israeli Foreign Ministry official Yigal Palmor said. Jimmy Carter has dignified this position with his presence, and one cannot but wonder how this attitude is supposed to promote peace and understanding.”

Carter’s comparisons of Israeli policies in the West Bank such as separate roads for Jews and Arabs to apartheid in South Africa also have angered Israeli leaders.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is not meeting with Carter this week, and the only Israeli leader to host him, the ceremonial president, Shimon Peres, criticized Carter for the planned Mashaal meeting.

U.S. officials have also said they disagree with Carter’s decision to talk to Hamas. There was no immediate U.S. comment Tuesday on his embrace of Shaer or visit to Arafat’s grave.

The Israeli daily Haaretz on Tuesday criticized Israel’s attitude toward Carter, who brokered the country’s historic peace agreement with Egypt in 1979. Carter went on to win the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his years of trying to resolve international conflicts.

The boycott will not be remembered as a glorious moment in this government’s history,” the newspaper said. Jimmy Carter has dedicated his life to humanitarian missions, to peace, to promoting democratic elections and to better understanding between enemies throughout the world.”

Carter has acknowledged his trip is not an official mission.

But he says isolating Hamas is counterproductive, and he has offered to serve as a conduit between the militant group and the U.S. and Israeli governments.

Soon the Stones Will Tumble Down!

The Jewish authorities are now afraid the Wailing Wall

stones may soon crumble and fall down if not repaired. They will soon crumble and fall, but at God’s hand, not by natural erosion. God will bring them down when his two witnesses are murdered by the Antichrist in the old city of Jerusalem to complete the second woe, and just before the sound of the seventh trumpet. The fifth trumpet is the first woe, the second is the sixth trumpet, and the third is the blowing of the seventh trumpet, which will sound immediately after God catches up his two witnesses.

The earthquake occurs “in the same hour” the witnesses are caught up and the seventh trumpet sounds “quickly” after the earthquake.

Revelation 8:13 to 9:1 – And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound! [1] And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

Rev. 9:12-15 – One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter. [13] And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, [14] Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

[15] And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

Revelation 11:7-14 – And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. [8] And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of THE GREAT CITY, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, WHERE ALSO OUR LORD WAS CRUCIFIED. [9] And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. [10] And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. [11] And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. [12] And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. [13] AND THE SAME HOUR WAS THERE A GREAT EARTHQUAKE, AND THE TENTH PART OF THE CITY FELL, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. The third woe is the sounding of the seventh and last trumpet marking the catching out of the rest of the saved from his wrath, which follows its sounding in his seven vials of wrath poured out on the lost.

All the saved will be in heaven after the seventh trumpet sounds, and his wrath will be poured on the lost on the earth while the saved are being judged in heaven for rewards.

Revelation 11:15,18 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and

ever. [18] And the nations were angry, and THY WRATH IS COME, and the time of the dead, that they should BE JUDGED, and that thou shouldest GIVE REWARD unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest DESTROY THEM which destroy the earth. Western Wall stones in danger of crumbling

First it was the southern wall of the Temple Mount.

Then it was a section of the ancient walls of Masada that were in danger of collapse. Now, it’s the turn of the stones of Jerusalem’s Western Wall.

Stones at the site are in danger of crumbling, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the rabbi of the Western Wall, said Monday.

The damaged stones that are beginning to disintegrate are not the ancient ones dating back to the Second Temple Period, but, ironically, the small uniform stones that make up part of the wall built in the 19th century and financed by the British philanthropist and financier Sir Moses Montefiore in an attempt to repair the site at that time.

“The original stones from the Second Temple are strong and stable,” Rabinovitch said in a telephone interview. “It is the smaller [and more recent] ones that are the problem.”

Rabinovitch noted that the needed repair work on the Western Wall will take place shortly after Pessah and will be completed over the summer – before the rainy winter m

onths begin when the danger is greatest of the stones falling on worshipers below.

“This is an issue which needs to be taken care of soon,” he said.

Experts were quick to stress Monday that there was no imminent danger to the worshipers at the Wall, which is Israel’s top tourist attraction, with an estimated five million people, including both tourists and locals, visiting the holy site last year.

“There is no immediate danger from the stones of the wall,” said Ra’anan Kislev, the director of the conservation department at the Israel Antiquities Authority.

The state-run archeological body had been carrying out ongoing surveys at the Jerusalem holy site for the last several years since several pieces of stones loosened and fell down in years past, Kislev said.

Just how to repair the damaged stones at the holy site is, however, another issue altogether, as engineering gets mixed in with religion.

Citing Biblical interdiction, Rabinovitch said that Jewish law or halacha forbids removing any of the stones of the Wall, even to repair them.

He said that – in consultation with the Israel Antiquities Authority – scaffolding will likely be erected in the area where worshipers pray, to prevent them from being harmed by falling pieces, as engineers work to fix the damaged small stones.

In the past, Israel’s Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar has said that repair work at the Western Wall should only be done by Jews after they had gone through a mikve, and that the work could only be carried out during the day.

Israel considering large Gaza incursion soon after Bush visit

There is a heightened sense in the security establishment that a broad-scale ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip is necessary this summer to deal a severe blow to Hamas’ s infra

structure, sources in Jerusalem said Wednesday, following the death of three soldiers in a Gaza ambush.

According to the sources, the incursion – similar but more difficult than Operation Defensive Shield in the West Bank in 2002 – would not take place until about a month or a month-and-a-half after US President George W. Bush’s planned visit here in mid-May. By then, the last of the world’s leaders to have come here to celebrate the country’ s 60th anniver

sary would have left.

The timing would also place the operation in the middle of summer, considered an optimal time for this type of operation.

The sources said there was recognition that such an operation would be extremely costly, both in terms of soldiers and Palestinians killed.

Nevertheless, the operation is being considered out of a widespread sense that the current situation in the Gaza Strip cannot continue festering indefinitely.

The sources said the idea would be to “clean Gaza out” and deliver a devastating blow to the considerable Hamas military infrastructure that has been built up there over the last few years – largely with Iranian and Syrian support – through the relentless smuggling of arms.

According to the sources, Israel would have no intention of remaining inside Gaza, but rather would hand it over for administration

to either Egypt or a third party.

While admitting that neither Egypt nor a third party such as NATO, the EU or the UN would be too excited about taking over responsibility for the Strip, the sources said Hamas’s recent breach of the border with Egypt was a significant “wake-up call” for the Mubarak regime, which has become increasingly concerned that Hamas now poses a considerable threat to Egypt.

The sources pointed out that the head of the Defense Ministry’s Diplomatic-Security Bureau, Amos Gilad, has shuttled back and forth to Cairo a number of times in recent weeks for talks with top Egyptian security officials.

Last week, Channel 2 reported that Egypt was, for the first time, considering the deployment of troops inside the Gaza Strip. Back in December, EU Middle East envoy Marc Otte told The Jerusalem Post that the mechanism for an international security presence in the Gaza Strip “could be devised quickly” if an agreement on the matter were reached between Israel and the Palestinians.

A senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office, when asked Wednesday about the likelihood of a broad-scale IDF action in the Gaza Strip, neither confirmed nor denied that such plans were in the works, saying only that “we have made clear that we hold Hamas responsible for the situation in the Gaza Strip, and will hold them accountable.”

One top officer in the Southern Command, meanwhile, said that the IDF was prepared for a large-scale operation in the Gaza Strip if ordered to do so by the political echelon.

“We have already prepared for a long time many different scenarios, including a large-scale invasion of Gaza,” the officer said. “It is up to the level above us to give the order.”

a portrayal of an event which is provocation enough for a major operation.

The three consecutive excerpts from DEBKAfile make it clear that some sort of action other than passive must be taken by the Knesset. Unless something more drastic than what was practiced over the last several months against Hamas, they will become more and more aggressive.

Hamas believes in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. If you pull all their teeth, they have nothing to retaliate about or which to trade. It is Israel’s fear of irritating the United States and international opinion that has been the restraining force holding them back.

I wonder how long the American public would react passively if such actions were pressed on them by a terrorist organization. Hamas uses international opinion to the hilt, creating counterfeit situations themselves to draw more sympathy for them to make Israel look like a monster.

Three soldiers killed, two wounded in Gaza ambush

Three IDF soldiers were killed and two others were wounded Wednesday after coming under heavy fire from Palestinian gunmen while patrolling the border with the Gaza Strip.

Givati soldiers were patrolling the border near Kibbutz Be’eri when they spotted a number of armed Palestinians moving towards the border in what appeared to be an attempt to infiltrate into Israel. The soldiers then crossed into Gaza to engage the Palestinians, but fell into a well-planned ambush and came under heavy gun and rocket fire.

Three soldiers were killed and two were wounded in the attack – one moderately and one lightly.

The fighting continued throughout most of the morning.

One of the soldiers who was killed was identified as Sgt. Matan Ovdati, 19, from Patish.

The two wounded soldiers were evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Hamas took responsibility for the attack, and vowed to continue attacks against Israel.

“We will continue to conduct many operations against the occupation, and continue to set ambushes of death its cowardly soldiers,” Hamas said in a flier which was published following Wednesday morning’s attack. “IDF soldiers going into Gaza have four choices: to be killed, captured, seriously wounded, or become psychologically traumatized.”

According to reports, the gunmen managed to escape.

Earlier Wednesday, Palestinians reported that six people were killed during IDF operations in Gaza.

Hamas reported that four of its gunmen were killed and three were wounded in exchanges of fire with IDF troops. Elsewhere, an Islamic Jihad commander was targeted by an IAF missile while he rode a motorcycle in the Jabalya refugee camp. It was not clear who the sixth man was.

Meanwhile, an IDF soldier was moderately wounded when he

was shot by a Palestinian sniper during ongoing counter-terror operations near Khan Yunis. The soldier was evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Also Wednesday morning, eight Kassam rockets were launched into Israel from Gaza. The rockets fell in open areas and did not cause any damage.

On Tuesday, Givati Brigade and Armored Corps troops operating in the Kissufim area fired at a Kassam launching cell, and confirmed hitting it, the IDF said. The soldiers came under heavy mortar and anti-tank fire. No troops were wounded.

The army said that IDF soldiers shot several other armed Palestinians in the battle.

Gaza residents said IDF armored vehicles hit and damaged a mosque. The army said the mosque was full of explosives and exploded during an exchange of fire between troops and gunmen located inside.

In addition, an Israeli home was hit as Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha, near the Gaza border, came under heavy mortar fire. No one was wounded, but the roof sustained mild damage.

This is the third time in a month that increasingly aggressive Palestinian cross-border fire has targeted a high-ranking Israeli. Last month, a Katyusha rocket exploded in Ashkelon shortly after a visit by prime minister Ehud Olmert; on April 4, internal security minister Avi Dichter was targeted and his aide injured while leading a group of Canadians around Sderot and other Israeli communities harassed by Palestinian missiles.

Israel’s grip on the border fence and surrounding populations is under constant assault as Palestinian audacity increases and Israeli forces are restricted by policy-makers to showpiece operations on the fringes of the Gaza Strip, instead of tactically effective engagements.

These operations not only fail to halt Palestinian fire but have encouraged their gunmen to draw ever closer to the border barrier and improve their aim at Israeli targets with impunity.

Furious southern command officers told DEBKAfile that no army in the world would put up with its senior commanders’ exposure to attack insde their sovereign territory by a belligerent neighbor. They are forced to watch day by day as armed Palestinians take up forward firing positions and command a strip of Israeli territory up to one kilometer deep, condemning tens of thousands of Israeli civilians to life under constant fire.

Exclusive: Israeli and Egyptian forces on high alert on Gaza borders over Hamas threats

Hamas politburo chief Khaled Meshaal voiced this threat Saturday, April 12.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the raid by Palestinian gunmen on the Israeli-Gaza fuel terminal – and murder of two of its employees, Oleg Lipson and Lev Cerniak – were meant to set the stage for a mass Hamas assault on the Gaza-Israeli border. Earlier this year, Hamas organized a “popular demonstration” of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who smashed their way through the Egyptian border to Sinai. After forcing Israel to close the fuel terminal, the Gaza population’s main source of fuel by its attack last Wednesday, Hamas plans to stage a mass protest against purported fuel shortages which is designed to end up flattening the border fence with Israel.

Our sources report that these shortages are a myth: Hamas has tons of heavy oil and petrol in stock, but reserves it for “military use.” The population is kept short and ripe for action against “the Israeli and Egyptian blockade” of the Gaza Strip.

Cairo had enough of this ruse earlier this year. This time, Egypt has beefed up its forces on the Sinai-Gaza border, built a high wall along the Philadelphi strip and warned any Palestinians attempting an illegal crossing that they would be “shot like rats.”

In addition to preparing for Hamas to smash through Gaza’s borders by means of civilian “protest marches,” Israel is braced for Hamas or its allied terrorist groups to try and secrete suicide bombers into Israel – either from Gaza or by using the terror teams still at large in Egyptian Sinai, where a terror alert remains in force, especially at the holiday resorts. Friday, the Israeli Negev – civilian locations and army bases – also went on alert after intelligence tip-offs were received of planned Palestinian terror attacks.

The hard-line Hamas leader Meshaal will capitalize on his forthcoming talks with ex-US president Jimmy Carter to play on his sympathies by accentuating the “plight” of Gaza’s Palestinian population and attributing its cause to Israel’s “collective punishment.”

Israeli ex-general sharply criticizes official “defensive” policy as recipe for war

Former OC Central Command and ex-defense ministry Dir.-Gen Ret. Gen. Shraga Biran said Friday, April 11, that Israel’s security problems will not be solved through defensive operations. In an unusually outspoken diatribe against current government policy by an apolitical military strategist, Biran warned that this defensive posture would lead inexorably to war, while strengthening Israel’s antagonists, Syria, Hizballah and Hamas.

He faulted the West as a whole for closing its eyes to Iran’s rising strength and nuclear aspirations.

DEBKAfile’s military sources hold up Israel’s military action in Gaza Friday to illustrate the point made by Gen.

Biran.

Following the murder on April 9 of two Israeli civilians at the fuel terminal supplying Gaza, Israel’s Givati Brigades, tank and engineering units, supported by combat helicopters advanced to between one and 1.5 km deep into the Gaza Strip and stopped short outside the El Bureij camp.

All day, they engaged fire with armed Palestinians who used rocket-propelled grenades, heavy machine gun and mortars. The troops kept on dodging the fire without advancing.

Israeli helicopters hit Palestinian firing positions, killing seven gunmen and a child. In the afternoon the IDF spokesman accused the Palestinians of fighting from inside populated areas.

Two things happened in this engagement, according to DEBKAfile’s military analysts:

1. Palestinian forces had another chance to hone their combat skills by watching Israeli tank movements and learning how to defend themselves, before going on the offensive.

2. The Palestinian population practiced ways of supporting their gunmen.

It is a well-known convention that Hamas draws its forward front lines in and around Gaza’s urban centers, such as Gaza City and Al Bureij and uses the population as human shields.

The operation was mounted to exact a penalty from the Palestinian terrorists two days after their unprovoked incursion into the fuel facility and two murders. Instead of showing their deterrent mettle, Israeli combat forces had to make do with fighting from a distance and presenting Hamas with a demonstration of ineffectiveness. The presence of an Israeli force outside al Bureij did not deter the Palestinians from continuing to shell Nahal Oz, launching a missile at Erez and shooting at ID border patrols. Snipers again aimed at an Israel farm tractor working in the fields of Nir Oz, two days after the IDF embarked on an earlier operation to put a stop to the harassment of Israeli farmers from Gaza.

All in all, because of the excessive caution of chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi and his superiors, Israel has not only failed to halt missile attacks from Gaza but even mortar shelling and light automatic rifle by lone snipers.
