GOD HAS THE ULTIMATE DEAD SEA PLAN

Ever since the 1850’s different nations have discussed different types of plans to create a water passage from the southern tip of the Dead Sea to the northern extension of the Red Sea, which is called the Gulf of Eilat by Israel and the Gulf of Aqaba by the Arabs. However, God had the ultimate plan from the foundation of the world to create such a water channel by his own power. He will create it during the last three and one-half years before the final battle of Armageddon. During part of that period the greatest geological upheaval since the Genesis 1:2 period will be occurr ing, and the structural changes

in the Jordan River system will be fantastic.

Matthew 24:21,22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Daniel 12:1 – And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Ezekiel 38:18-23 – And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face. [19] For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; [20] So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. When low-tech will do the trick

We humans love grandiose engineering projects. We marvel at our technological prowess, ancient and modern, when flocking as tourists to the ancient Mayan ruins and Egyptian pyramids or celebrate new skyscrapers and dams that break old records for height and mass. Israelis are no exception, and the draining of the Hula wetlands and the laying of the National Water Carrier remain a tribute to Zionist can-do determination. Yet, as we’ve learned from the Hula, and may yet learn from the Trans-Israel Highway, some of these projects may have been executed with excessive zeal and deficient environmental and social foresight.

It is with the benefit of this hindsight that we should consider the Red Sea-Dead Sea Canal with some healthy skepticism. Variations of this project have been proposed over the past 150 years. Its key selling point is that it can exploit the drop in altitude between

the Red Sea and the Dead Sea to allow water to generate hydroelectric energy. The modern version posits that the energy yielded will be sufficient to desalinate 850 million cubic meters of Red Sea water for much-needed drinking water in Jordan and the Palestinian Authority, with additional water filling up the Dead Sea. A reminder: The Dead Sea is shrinking because its Jordan River source waters have all been diverted for agriculture and household consumption by the countries upstream.

But environmental assessments reveal a veritable rogue’s gallery of potential negative impacts: The marine ecology of the Red Sea would be harmed; ground water in the Arava would be threatened with salinization; flash floods and seismic activity would threaten the canal; and the influx of sea water would make the Dead Sea turn milky white, while releasing odorous hydrogen sulfide.

For these reasons, the idea is opposed by many of Israel’s hydrologists, geologists, ecologists and environmental scientists. Its estimated $5-billion construction, plus $5 million-a-year operating cost, are additional deterrents. According to Technion professor of agricultural engineering and former Israeli water commissioner Dan Zaslavsky, the proposal for a canal (or pipeline) has been studied some eight times – and rejected each time on economic or environmental grounds.

So why does the proposal continue to rear its head? Perhaps this is a case of what Ben-Gurion University professor Yaakov Garb calls “constructing the inevitability” of a mega-project. In a 2004 article, Garb cogently outlines the decision-making process that led to another mega-project: the Trans-Israel Highway. For decades, while the project was still a proposal, advocates adapted their justification, based on what they thought would resonate most with potential funders, governments and the public. Like the canal, the road was presented, with selective data, as a project that Israel could not live without. Likewise, the Red-Dead Canal

has been touted as the answer to the region’s water shortage, as a new and clean energy source, a lifeline for the Dead Sea, a boon to tourism, and now, according to President Shimon Peres, a project vital to regional peace and stability. Whatever the season or the problem – the canal can be framed as the solution.

Certainly, both Jordan and the PA are in need of more drinking water. But these needs can be met through less romantic policies, which include restoration of their deteriorating water infrastructure, investment in waste-water treatment, and scaling back agriculture.

Israel could also provide a more generous and fair allotment of water to its neighbors. All of these solutions combined would be less expensive than the proposed canal, and their environmental impact would be mostly positive.

There is also a real alternative to the Red-Dead Canal. According to both Zaslavsky and Friends of the Earth Middle East, we can simply allow some of the water that formerly flowed through the Jordan River to the Dead Sea, which has since been diverted, to flow once again. The great peace project can be reframed as the international restoration of this historic and ecologically unique watershed, to the benefit of its wildlife, holy sites, tourists and residents, and of course, the return of the Dead Sea to its former level. As pointed out in Friends of the Earth’s critique of the World Bank’s most recent report, some canal advocates are simply ignoring this low-tech, but promising, option.

Unfortunately, donors are often less enamored of donating to projects that don’t have a plaque with their name on it. Fixing the underground pipes in Amman and helping farmers to stop using inefficient irrigation isn’t as sexy as building a 250-kilometer canal with pumps, generators and desalination factories.

Peres has recently made much ado about adopting a “green” persona. While this is a welcome announcement, many of our environmental problems will be exacerbated by projects he supports. We require a fundamental “re-visioning” of how we live on and manipulate the earth. In this case, the low-tech, less expensive solution may provide better economic, social and environmental value than

the proposed mega-project. We can hope he and the relevant ministers will listen to the many scientists and activists who have advised them as such.

Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 11 – Salty Sea to a Fresh Water Lake!

Figure 47 is a general summarization in a pictorial format of what has been presented thus far by a narrative discourse.

It shows the area as I believe it will appear during the Millennium. Please note that the Dead Sea is forecast to become a living sea. At the present time, the Dead Sea is so saturated with salt and other solids that aquatic life forms cannot be supported. Fish that enter the Dead Sea from its tributaries perish shortly after their entrance. For centuries the elevated Arabah Fault to the south of the Dead Sea has prevented the waters of the Jordan River from reaching the Gulf of Aqaba (Eilat). Consequently, by a process of evaporation, more and more salt has been continuously added to the land-locked body of water Zechariah identifies as the former (eastern) Sea (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 47).

Zechariah 14:8 – And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

When God splits the Arabah Fault, during the tribulation period, a natural graben river valley will be formed between the blocking section of the fault structure, and the Jordan’s waters will finally be able to flow from the Dead Sea into the Red Sea by way of the Gulf of Aqaba. This will eventually clean most of the salt out of the Dead Sea, but the shallow northeastern sections will continue to have salt in coastline marsh areas.

Ezekiel 47:6-12 – And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. [7] Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. [8] Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. [9] And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh. [10] And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi even unto En-eglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many. [11] But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt. [12] And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. As we begin with verse six, we have just walked eastward a little over a mile (4,000 cubits) from the utter gate of the Jerusalem Millennial Temple, and have arrived at the brink of the diverted Jordan River. During our walk, we passed directly through the graben valley created during the tribulation period when the Mount of Olives divided into two sections, one moving to the north, and one moving to the south. The stream along which we walked developed after the Israelites fled to the Negev by way of the valley of the mountains. The area, through which the entire stream and Jordan River Complex is prophesied to flow, is one of the most fertile soul profiles in Israel. But no matter how fertile and perfectly zoned a soil profile is, unless there is water, no vegetation will spring up. This has been the problem in this dry, arid region for centuries, but God is going to change all that.

Trees, and all types of vegetation, will flourish along the length of these two living water rivers as they flow toward the Mediterranean and Dead Seas, and the remnant of Israel will use this new source of water to irrigate the desert lands of Judah and most of southern Israel. I am convinced Israel will become the breadbasket of the Middle East.

When Judah’s water shed, to the west of the line from Geba to Rimmon, lifts up as a fault block ridge, it will increase subterranean water flow into the spring that still flows under Jerusalem. The lifting along the Tyropoean Valley fault, just behind the Temple Mount Complex, will cause the spring to surface on the Temple platform just north of the Dome of the Rock, and it will flow eastward as a stream for a thousand years. As westerly winds being the moist Mediterranean air up the gentle slope of the uplifted western Judean watershed block complex, adiabatic cooling of the moist sea air, coupled with convective heating of the plain, will produce frequent periods of orographic and convective precipitation.

Some of this rain will drift off the higher central watershed and fall on what are now arid sections of eastern and southern Judea. I also believe that more frontal activity will affect all Israel by increasing precipitation totals. Increased precipitation will not only water the soil profile directly, but increased occurrence to the west of Jerusalem will keep the water table supplied with ample water to feed Ezekiel’s temple spring continuously through the entire 1000 year reign of Christ. God will so structure the land and the climate that lack of water will no longer be a problem to the east of the line from Geba to Rimmon.

As verse 8 indicates, a part of this fresh water flows into “the east country” (east of the Mount of Olives), then “down (southward) into the desert” (desert of Judah and Arabah), then finally “into the sea” (Dead Sea). Once they are brought forth into the Dead Sea they cause water now there “to be healed” (the salt content is reduced sufficiently to start supporting aquatic life). This is all made possible by the opening of the Arabah Fault into a channel that will allow the Dead Sea to drain most of its salt content into the Red Sea via the Gulf of Aqaba.

Verse 9 gives a clear prophecy that the Jordan River system, from its northern tip to its entry into the Gulf of Aqaba, will be filled with all sorts of aquatic life, this being made possible because the Dead Sea has been healed from its extremely high, life taking, salt content.

Verse 10 reveals that fishermen will fish for a great, exceeding variety of fish along the Dead Sea western shoreline from Engedi to Eneglaim (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 48). This entire shoreline is now barren of all aquatic life forms.

Verse 11 tells us that the northeastern zone of the Dead Sea will exist as a salt marsh because it will be out of the direct fresh water trajectory flowing into the western shoreline (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 48).

Verse 12 is a picture of a vast aggregate of all types of fruit producing trees. The fruit of the trees will be a part of the “meat” supply of the nation of Israel, and various extracts from the trees will be used for medicinal purposes. Ezekiel’s vision of great fertility in the wilderness of Judea is echoed by many of

the prophets, in terms similar to those put forward by Isaiah, as he describes the effects the new hydrological changes will produce in the desolate zones of Israel.

Isaiah 35:1,2,6,7 –The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. [2] It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the Excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the Excellency of our God. [6] Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. [7] And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons (jackals), where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

The day is soon coming when God will so geologically reconstruct the topography of his Holy Land by a massive shifting of his tectonic plates, that the deserts and wildernesses of Judah shall be thoroughly irrigated with waters from a reorganized Jordan River tributary system. Where only jackals (dragons) now dwell, men and women will leap for joy like a hart, and Jewish tongues will sing praise to God for his great blessings of fertility. A vast green paradise will exist where only arid wasteland once appeared. One of these changes involved in the many that will be wrought by God, is the opening of a valley in the Arabah Fault block, which will allow the contents of the present Dead Sea to flush through it on the way to the Red Sea’s Gulf of Aqaba.

At the present time there are convective currents of magma that flow upward into the lower sections on both sides of the Red Sea, which is causing the sea floor to spread apart at the rate of several centimeters per year. This same lake of magma underlies the entire length of the Jordan Valley, but, at the present time, the faults on both sides of it are locked, or “frozen” in place above the magma, and its upward convective currents are much more passive here than under the Red Sea (See Archive Birth Pang Figures, 23, 24, 25, 27, and 38). However, when the present Red Sea floor spreading of the fault finally reaches its critical limits, at that time the northern, or “locked” portion, of the fault will suddenly burst open on both sides for a distance of about 185 miles from the Port of Aqaba (Eilat) northward, to become a raging inferno of volcanic smoke, pitch, and brimstone. The greatest restructuring will occur in that section or the fault block between the southern tip of the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. That section was known as Edom or Idumea during the time of most of the prophets (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 23). Isaiah writes of this catastrophic tribulation period ripping transformation of that land, which will form a new river channel to drain the Dead Sea.

Isaiah 34:4-10 – And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. [5] For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. [6] The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

[7] And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. [8] For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. [9] And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. [10] It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and

ever.

This is a classic description of what geologists label as a “flood basalt plain,” and verse 10 indicates that some degree of volcanic activity will occur there off and on throughout the Millennium. The activity would appear to be such that only wild animals would live there during that period.

es, another shipment of the new Russian S-300 air defense system is in the works to be shipped to Iran in the future.

Quite frankly, I was surprised the Russians would sell the S-300 air defense system to Iran. It is the absolute top of the line. I was involved in intelligence gathering in the sixties and seventies when the Soviets where launching various types of SS missiles

from their launch site at Turatam eastward toward their anti-missile site at Sary Shagon. The tests were designed to test the effectiveness of their anti-missiles against their own missiles. I watched the development and effectiveness of their anti-missile systems. Sometimes the anti-missiles from Sary Shagon hit the Turtam missiles, and sometimes they did not, but by the time I left the NSA they rarely missed. But I will assure you of this, there is no such animal as the ultimate anti-missile system. Once a new one comes out, in relatively short order a way will be found to get around it. The Russians would never sell a missile defense system to any country unless they had already developed a way to get around it. By the time Russia finally gets around to shipping the S-300 to Iran, and then installing it, the U.S. and Israel will have developed a way to get around it.

The TOR-M1 is designed to intercept “stealth” aircraft, helicopters and drones as well as laser-guided precision bombs, rockets and cruise missiles.

Traveling at a speed of 700 kph up to a range of 25km, it can destroy any of these incoming objects 12 km before they make contact with target.

The S-300 is a much more powerful and versatile weapon than the Tor-M1 missile systems now being installed, which were capable of hitting aerial targets flying at up to 6,000 meters. Particulars of the S-300 are included in the following Jerusalem Post article.

Iran announces arms deal with Russia

Russia is to supply Iran with new S-300 air defense systems, Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said Wednesday, a sign of growing military cooperation between Moscow and Teheran.

“The S-300 air defense system will be delivered to Iran on the basis of a contract signed with Russia in the past,” state television quoted Najjar as saying.

Najjar didn’t say when or how many of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile defense systems would be shipped to Iran.

Earlier this year, Russia delivered 29 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems to Iran under a $700 million contract signed in December 2005.

t on the Iranian statement, but the Interfax news agency quoted an unidentified source in the Russian military-industrial complex as saying that a contract for the missiles delivery had been signed several years ago and envisaged the delivery of several dozen S-300 missile systems.

The S-300 is much more powerful and versatile weapon than the Tor-M1 missile systems supplied earlier which were capable of hitting aerial targets flying at up to 6,000 meters.

The S-300 is capable of shooting down aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missile warheads at ranges of up to 150 kilometers and at altitudes of up to 27 kilometers. Russian military officials boast that it excels US Patriot missiles.

Rumors about the sale of S-300 missile systems to Iran have circulated for a long time, but Russian officials consistently denied it.

Military experts said that the S-300 missile systems could inflict a significant damage to the US or Israeli forces if they were to attack Iran.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that the delivery of nuclear fuel to Iran’s Bushehr reactor makes it unnecessary for Iran to continue to enrich uranium.

“We believe that Iran has no economic need to proceed with its program of uranium enrichment,” Lavrov told the Vremya Novostei newspaper.

“We are trying to persuade the Iranians that freezing the program is to their advantage as it would immediately lead to talks with all countries of the ‘six’, including the United States,” he added.

“Iran’s agreement to this proposal is in everyone’s interest,” Lavrov stated. Such talks, he said, would aim to once and for all remove suspicions that Iran’s nuclear program was anything other than peaceful.

Lavrov stressed that all activities at the Bushehr reactor would remain under international supervision.

“Our Iranian partners know that should there be the slightest deviation [from agreements], we will freeze our cooperation,” he said.

Lavrov’s statements mirrored those made last week by US President George W. Bush, who said that he supported the Russian fuel shipments, stating that they proved that Teheran had no need to enrich uranium.

“If the Russians are willing to do that, which I support, then the Iranians do not need to learn how to enrich. If the Iranians accept that uranium for a civilian nuclear power plant, then there’s no need for them to learn how to enrich,” Bush said.

Last week, senior Israeli diplomatic officials said that Moscow had no interest in seeing Iran gain an independent nuclear capability.

“The Russians are not naive,” one of the officials said, adding that Moscow wants to keep neighboring Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon.

“Our difference is over tactics, not goals,” the official said.

He said this difference in tactics would become clear in January, when the UN is expected to adopt a third Security Council resolution sanctioning Iran for its ongoing uranium enrichment.

According to the official, the Russians will back about half of the items in the basket – the less serious ones – and not back others. The Chinese, the official said, are likely to back even fewer sanctions than the Russians.

The mass confusion and chaos going on in Pakistan, over the fanatical assassination of a leading political candidate, has produced fears of the Pakistan nuclear weapons arsenal getting into the hands of several Middle East nations and terrorist groups.

Perhaps I should be worried about it, and of course, it certainly does increase the likelihood, but it really hasn’t pushed my fear button.

Anyone who actually believes nuclear weapons can be kept out of the hands of rogue nations or terrorist groups in the Middle East, for a very long period of time, is not playing with a full deck.

That is not to say I believe we should do nothing to promote it happening later than sooner, but it is just a question of time.

No rogue nation wants to see a nuclear war instituted. We cannot stop them from eventually acquiring them, but nations which possess them have been successful in deterring other nuclear nations from using them, because of the consequences of a full retaliatory nuclear strike in return.

The advantage the countries of the former Soviet Union, China, North Korea, and all the Islamic nations have over the United States, Europe, and Israel, is certainly not nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons launched against us by missiles from land, sea, or air.

Their advantage is overwhelming in numbers of potential combatants because of their massive populations. They want a conventional war on the ancient land of the pre-Columbus World.

They don’t want a nuclear war anymore than we do. But they do want arsenals of nuclear weapons to deter us from launching ours, while they have a conventional war on their side of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

“Dirty Bombs”, either smuggled into, or put together in this country by fanatical terrorist groups, such as al Qaeda, are a definite possibility, but such a bomb, compared to a full phase nuclear warhead detonation, is like comparing a popping corn kernel with a twenty ton conventional bomb.

The assassination of Pakistan’s opposition leader Benazir Bhutto is creating great concern around the world over the country’s sizeable nuclear arsenal.

Pakistan is the only Muslim nation with nuclear weapons, and the fear is that with the country falling into political disarray following Bhutto’s death, Islamic extremists will seek to take advantage of the situation and get their hands on some of the weapons.

Pakistan reportedly has as many as 30 nuclear weapons.

Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at the end of a campaign rally, aides said. Even before her death, tensions were high in Pakistan, with many calling for the ouster of President Pervez Musharraf, who imposed emergency rule on the nation.

In November, Bhutto had said discontent was rising and the country resembled a pressure cooker.

Pakistan has already been implicated in the spread of nuclear technology.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, described as an Islamic extremist and the father of Pakistan�s nuclear program, in 2004 admitted that he had sold nuclear technology to a number of foreign countries, including North Korea and Libya.

Former FBI consultant Paul L. Williams wrote that year that evidence found in Afghanistan in 2001 indicated a link between Khan and al-Qaida as well.

The U.S. recently admitted that since the attacks of September 11, 2001, it has been helping Pakistan secure its nuclear weapons and the materials used to make them. Pakistan has welcomed this assistance.

The New York Times reported in November that over the past six years, the Bush administration has spent almost $100 million on a highly classified program to help Musharraf secure his nation’s weapons.

But there is a growing armed insurgency in the areas bordering Afghanistan that has been spreading into Pakistan’s major cities. And with Bhutto’s death, turmoil in Pakistan is bound to increase.

The changes in the Middle East after the Annapolis Conference, and the CIA intelligence report downgrading the Iranian nuclear threat, has produced a flurry of activity in the Arab world, which has put Israel in a position where Prime Minister Olmert is seeking and saying “PEACE AND SAFETY” like never before.

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

We will see countless ifs, ands, or buts on peace talks between now and the time Israel is attacked from the north to begin the final war of the “Age of the Gentiles”, but the stage is set, and I feel confident the initial attack, which begins the “sudden destruction”, is likely to occur at some point in time between 2010 and 2015.

Olmert Seeks Peace Talks with Syria

JERUSALEM, 27 December 2007 — Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told visiting US lawmakers he was interested in restarting peace talks with Syria but was awaiting a signal from Damascus first, one of the lawmakers said yesterday.

“It is the proverbial story of chicken and egg, what comes first?” Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania told reporters one day after meeting with Olmert in Jerusalem.

Olmert has for months passed messages to Syria through third parties, including US lawmakers, seeking assurances peace talks would lead Damascus to sever ties with Hamas, in control of the Gaza Strip, with the Hezbollah group in Lebanon and with Iran, Israeli officials said.

Specter said his visit to the region would include talks in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Syria took part in a US-sponsored conference on Palestinian statehood after Washington agreed to allow discussion on the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war and later annexed in a move not recognized internationally.

Olmert told Specter and Democratic Representative Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island that he was “interested” in renewing peace talks, which collapsed in 2000 without resolving the fate of the Golan, but that “he is looking for a signal from Syria,” according to Specter.

Specter said Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Al-Mekdad told him on the sidelines of the Annapolis conference last month that “Syria is interested in negotiations.”

Kennedy said he would tell Assad that he was “mistaken” if he believed he could wait until US President George W.

Bush, a Republican, leaves office in January 2009 in order to get a better deal should a Democrat be elected.

“If he thinks there’s going to be some ability for concessions, or less resolve … he is going to be mistaken in that approach,” Kennedy said.

Assad has set his own preconditions for revived talks with Israel: Olmert’s commitment to a full withdrawal from the Golan.

Tensions flared between the neighbors when

the Israeli air force carried out a strike inside Syrian territory on Sept. 6. Some US officials have linked the raid to suspicions of secret nuclear cooperation between Damascus and North Korea.

Syria and North Korea have denied any nuclear ties.

Mohammed Mar’i adds from Ramallah: The Israeli foreign minister said in a new intelligence assessment that Syria is interested in peace agreement with Israel but is waiting for the next United States administration to take over in 2009 in order to initiate talks.

The ministry’s yearly assessment was presented to the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday by Nimrod Barkan, director of the ministry’s Center for Policy Research.

According to the report, the Syrians do not believe that negotiations will be able to advance as long as President Bush is in office, and therefore prefer to wait until the end of his term, hoping

that the next administration will be willing to renew talks with Damascus and will give its blessing to Syrian-Israeli negotiations.

Barkan told the committee that, “Damascus is interested in an agreement with Israel, but only according to Syria’s conditions and with American involvement.”

“The Syrian surface-to-surface missile threat has increased in the past year,” he added. “Israel’s deterrence against Syria and Hezbollah still exists and even increased during 2007, but we must watch closely for the possibility that the deterrence could weaken.”

Barkan added that the US twice tried to “open a door for Syria” in 2007, but Damascus failed to meet the administration’s demands regarding its continued involvement in Lebanon.

European diplomatic sources said on Friday that an attempt to exchange messages between Israel and Syria in recent months has failed due to inability to reach an agreed-upon agenda for talks between the two countries.

“The Syrians wanted the talks to revolve only on the (occupied) Golan (Heights),” the European diplomats said. “But Israel wanted to first talk about other issues that trouble it, such as (Syria’s) ties with Iran and the support for Hezbollah and Hamas, and Syria did not agree.”

In another development, the Israeli special ministerial committee advising Prime Minister Olmert on the issue of releasing Palestinian prisoners “with blood on their hands” in exchange for abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is likely to recommend that the government relax conditions for freeing such prisoners.

According to Israeli sources, three of the five ministers on the committee support changing prisoner release policies.

I discovered, as I traveled to more than 600 worldwide sites, presenting my lecture series, “A Geological Exposition of the Second Coming of Christ,” many believers have a great dread, a horrifying fear, of the battle of Armageddon.

I found quite a few who did not come to see and hear the lecture series because, “I just don’t want to hear about all that tribulation stuff.” I recall some who said, “Preacher, that scares the Hades out of me.” Others said, “That will scare our young people.” I have never feared the wrath of God since I understood the completeness of my salvation. I fear the chastisement and scourging of God, but I do not fear his wrath in the tribulation period, because I will not be here when his vials of wrath are poured out, and I certainly won’t the here at Armageddon. However, I will be coming back with him

to see the end of it in the air at his Second Event. There is a difference between God’s punishment by scourging and chastisement, when they are compared with His wrath.

Hebrews 12:5-8 – And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: [6] For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. [7] If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? [8] But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

I Thessalonians 5:9 – For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Revelation 16:1,16 – And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials

of the wrath of God upon the earth.

[16] And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Jude 14 – And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

So, please read what follows for informational purposes, knowing you will no be here when God’s wrath is poured out on the earth.

There is no question in my mind that the events now transpiring in Russia, China, Europe, and the Middle East are definitely setting the stage for the final war of the Age of the Gentiles, which will eventually terminate with the Second Advent of Christ.

The prophecy of Ezekiel 38 is against a person and a land. The person is Gog, the Antichrist from that part of the once great Assyrian Empire, which extended itself to the immediate north of Israel. The two tribes of Meshech and Tubal occupied the two countries today known as Syria and Lebanon, and their descendants lived there at the time Micah and Isaiah wrote their prophecies. The land is the land of Magog, which is occupied by Russia today.

Ezekiel 38:1,2 – And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, [2] Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

When Gog, the Antichrist, asks the land of Russia, some three and one-half years after he drives Israel into the Negev, to come down and help him completely destroy Israel, Russia will come down in massive array at Armageddon.

Revelation 16:16 – And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

At that time the following destruction of all the armies coming against Israel from Europe, Eurasia, China, Asia, the Far East, and Africa, will meet the following fate at the hand of God. At Armageddon no one will be able to rescue the Antichrist Gog, or any of those who attempt to help him, from the wrath of God that awaits them.

Daniel 11:45 to 12:1 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. [12] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

This scenario of Daniel 12:1 is also described in Ezekiel 38 and 39, as well as following Revelation 16:16.

Ezekiel 38:16 to 39:6 – And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. [17] Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them? [18] And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face.

[19] For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; [20] So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. [21] And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother. [22] And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

[23] Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord. [1] Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: [2] And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: [3] And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. [4] Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. [5] Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God. [6] And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

Please note the destruction that is rained down by God on the land of Magog (Russia) during all this destruction in verse six.

The same event is described immediately following Revelation 16:16.

Revelation 16:16-21 – And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. [17] And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. [18] And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. [19] And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. [20] And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. [21] And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

The same event described in Daniel 11:45 to 12:1, Ezekiel 38:16 to 39:6, and Revelation 16:16 to 21, is also described in Mathew 24:21,22 and Revelation 19:11-21.

Matthew 24:21,22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Revelation 19:11-21 – And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. [17] And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; [18] That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with

their flesh.

Russia’s Choice

Though Russia has not tabled a formal proposal yet, it is seeking to host some kind of Mideast peace conference, following Annapolis and the donors meeting for the Palestinians in Paris. Israel is known to be unhappy about the idea, while formally stating that it knows nothing of it.

The US, Europe, and Israel should nix this now, before it gets off the ground. Russia is on the wrong side of the peace equation and should be sent a strong signal that there is a price to pay for providing critical diplomatic cover and military assistance to rogue states.

Western relations with Russia are, obviously, delicate. Western leaders are reluctant to say no to Russia, since Russian cooperation is needed in the UN Security Council, and Russia could play an even more damaging role if it wanted.

At some point, however, the egregiousness of Russian behavior cannot be papered over. Russia not only built Iran’s Bushehr reactor over years of Western objections and provided air defences for Iran’s nuclear facilities, it has now shipped 82 tons of uranium fuel rods to Iran, leading to the expectation that Bushehr could be operational around the end of next year.

Russia claims that this is consistent with its own opposition to Iran developing nuclear weapons, since Iran has committed to returning spent fuel rods – which contain enough plutonium to produce bombs – back to

Russia.

The US has tried to make lemonade out of lemons by not objecting, and arguing that Iran now has no excuse for not shutting down its own enrichment program.

We must remember that in 1981, Israel destroyed Iraq’s French-built Osirak reactor, despite a similar agreement that it would be maintained under international safeguards. And the Israeli strike came just before fuel was supplied to the reactor, to avoid the further damage that would be caused by dispersed nuclear fuel.

In Iran’s case, as disturbing as are the implications of Bushehr itself, the operation of this site is actually among the less central proliferation threats. Iran is also building a “research” reactor at Arak that would produce much more plutonium and could be completed in the next few years. Most of all, there is Iran’s defiant race to master the process of uranium enrichment at Natanz – which has room for 60,000 centrifuges, according to Israeli Military Intelligence – and which could result in an indigenous capacity to produce its own nuclear arsenal.

Accordingly, it is not so much Bushehr itself that is the problem, but Russia’s decision to give that project a significant boost forward despite Iranian defiance regarding enrichment. What greater blow could have been dealt to the international sanctions campaign, which Russia voted for, than supplying fuel regardless of Iran’s compliance with mandatory UN Security Council resolutions?

If the Iranian regime succeeds in obtaining nuclear weapons someday, the government that history will hold most responsible will be Russia’s. A nuclear Iran would be a tremendous boon for all the radical Islamist forces in the region, such as Hamas, Hizbullah and al-Qaida.

For this reason alone, the idea that Russia should be invited into a process designed to isolate and combat precisely these forces makes no sense. But that’s not all.

Far from joining in the international consensus that Hamas must be isolated, Russia is openly siding with Hamas. In Paris, at the donor conference that raised over $7 billion in pledges for the Palestinian Authority, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said: ” Requiring special attention is the situation in the Gaza Strip, whose actual isolation hurts ordinary Palestinians.

The worst may happen: the territory being turned into a ‘high security prison.'”

What does this mean, that Hamas should be even freer to attack Israel than it is now? Where is Moscow’s condemnation, at least on the level of lip service, of the constant missile attacks against Israeli civilians?

The truth is, based on its incredible behavior, Russia no longer belongs in the Quartet, or in the G8, for that matter. Moscow should not, in one moment, be allowed to run interference for the radical front attacking the West and in the next be treated as a responsible player and part of the West’s collective efforts to defend itself.

It is not as though Russia has had trouble choosing sides. Rather, it has chosen the wrong side. It is time that Russia’s choice had consequences.
