If Syria and Iran attack Israel before three major impediments are out of the way, they will suffer a terrible defeat, and I believe they are well aware of it.

I am hoping their acute awareness of it will cause them to agree to a time of relative false peace, some sort of a hudna. They have a lot of work to do before they will be able

to defeat Israel in a Middle East War.

Considering the results of Syria’s wars with Israel in 48, 67, and 73, plus last month’s failure to detect and destroy Israeli aircraft by their great pig-in-a-poke Russian high tech system, coupled with the existence of a long eastern border with Iraq, where some 140,000 American military forces are at war, I would have to surmise that the statement made by Syrian President Bashar stating: ‘Syria won’t hesitate to start a war with Israel to regain Golan,” is empty rhetoric from a deflated hot air balloon.

Syria is not about to start a war with Israel until these serious obstacles are changed or removed, and it is unlikely it will do so until Iran has a deterrent consisting of several deliverable nuclear warheads. It is difficult for me to image an attack against Israel by Syria or Iran until:

1. American troops are out of Iraq in sufficient numbers.

2. Iran and Syria have dependable detect and destroy systems.

3. Iran has several deliverable nuclear deterrent warheads.

Considering these three factors, I would guess the earliest possible date for Syria and Iran to be ready to attack Israel would be 2010, and it might be as late as the end of 2014.

However, Israel is more than prepared to attack them both at any given moment, and knowing Israel, it is certainly a possibility.

‘Syria won’t hesitate to start a war with Israel to regain Golan’

Syria will not hesitate to start a war with Israel in order to restore its control over the Golan Heights, A-Baath, the official newspaper of President Bashar Assad’s government, warned Saturday.

In an article to mark 34 years since the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, A-Baath said: “Our people and our leadership are determined to liberate our conquered lands using all means, methods and ways.”

Meanwhile, ABC News quoted American officials as saying that the IAF raid in Syria during September was planned for several months and was postponed a number of times due to heavy US pressure.

According to the report, Israel presented US officials with satellite imagery which clearly showed North Korean nuclear technology in a Syrian facility. According to a US source, W

ashington officials were astonished by the imagery and by the fact US intelligence had not picked up on the facility previously.

“Israel tends to be very thorough about its intelligence coverage, particularly when it takes a major military step, so they would not have acted without data from several sources,” said ABC News military consultant Tony Cordesman.

A different source told ABC News that Israel had planned the strike as early as July 14, and in confidential meetings with high ranking US officials, debated over the appropriate response.

Several officials supported Israel’s decision to strike, although others, led by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, firmly opposed it and offered to publicly condemn Syria for operating a nuclear facility instead.

US officials who initially opposed the raid, according to ABC, apparently feared the negative influence it might have over the whole region. Consequently, officials in Washington persuaded Israel to push back the raid, but in September, Israel feared that information about the facility might be leaked to the press, and went ahead with the strike, despite objections by Washington.

Israel Shakes Iran’s Confidence in Stopping IAF

(IsraelNN.com) Despite its usual posturing about its military excellence and that of its terrorist allies, Iran appears to be increasingly concerned about Syria’s ability to detect infiltration by Israeli aircraft, an issue that may affect its own ability to protect itself from the IAF.

A report on the U.S.-based Aviation Week website this week said Israel’s covert IAF attack on a Syrian military installation last month shook Iranian confidence in the country’s Russian-manufactured radar and air defense systems.

Syrian radar failed to notice Israeli aircraft flying to and from its target in the northeastern part of the country, said the report.

This was due to Israel’s use of an electronic device installed on a plane that circled the area, jamming the system during the operation.

Russia has been negotiating with Iran to sell $750 million worth of radar equipment to the Islamic Republic for the protection of its nuclear facilities.

The wisdom of that purchase is now being questioned by Iranian officials, given Israel’s success in circumventing the system, a tactic that could also enable a successful strike against Iran through Syrian airspace.

The Bush administration has stated several times it would not rule out military action against Iran if no progress is made to curtail the country’s development of a nuclear program.

Analysts have speculated that an American strike may be backed or even led by Israeli forces.

Report: Ahmadinejad says Iran’s mission is to stop Israeli hegemony

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran had an “international mission” to stop Israeli hegemony in the Middle East, state news agency IRNA reported Thursday.

“Iran has an international mission and those who believe the country should solely focus on domestic issues are wrong and efforts should also be made to reform international issues as well,” IRNA quoted Ahmadinejad as saying in a Tehran mosque on Wednesday.

Referring in the same context to Israel, he said that due to such efforts the “Zionists (Israel) who always wanted a country from the Nile to the Euphrates, are now happy with establishing their illegal authority in a small part of Palestine only.”

“If we are not present in the world scene, others would eventually make decisions for us,” Ahmadinejad said.

Ahmadinejad’s remarks came before the annual nationwide anti-Israel demonstrations – “Al-Quds Day” – on the last Friday of the Muslim fasting m

onth of Ramadan, which this year falls on October 5.

Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day is an Iranian initiative to call an end to Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem and for the city to be the united capital of a Palestinian state.

Ahmadinejad claims Jerusalem belongs to the descendants of Ishmael, but the God of Israel gave it to the descendants of Jacob. Ahmadinejad will one day learn it would have been better if he had never been born.

Ahmadinejad: Let Jews move their country to Europe or Alaska

Millions of Iranians attended nationwide rallies Friday in support of the Palestinians, while the country’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Israel’s continued existence was an “insult to human dignity.”

“The creation, continued existence and unlimited (Western) support for this regime is an insult to human dignity,” Ahmadinejad said. “The occupation of Palestine is not limited to one land. The Zionist issue is now a global issue.”

Ahmadinejad’s remarks came as millions of Iranians held rallies across Iran to protest Israel’s continued control of Jerusalem.

The demonstrations for “Al-Quds Day” – Al-Quds is the Arabic name for Jerusalem – also spilled over into anti-American protests because of US support for Israel.

In the capital Teheran, hundreds of thousands of people poured into the streets as they chanted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” Some protesters also burned American and Israeli flags.

State television reported similar large rallies in all other provincial capitals and smaller towns across Iran.

The Iranian president once again said Palestinians should not pay any price because Europeans committed crimes against Jews in World War II.

He said they could give a part of their own land in Europe or Alaska so that the Jews can establish their country.

“I ask European governments supporting Zionists and the American people that will you allow occupation of part of your land under a pretext and then talk about a two-state solution?,” Ahmadinejad said after the rallies.

Ahmadinejad said a “free referendum” was the solution to the Palestinian issue, saying Jews, Muslims and Christians as well as five million Palestinian refugees should take part in a vote to determine their own fate.

Ayatollah Mahould Hashemi Shahroudi, Iran’s judiciary chief, said Friday’s rallies was “a good start for the destruction of the Zionist regime.”

Parliamentary speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel said the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands was a “blatant oppression” and warned that the relationship between the Islamic world and the West won’t improve as long as Palestinians are not allowed to determine their fate in a referendum.

Since the Islamic revolution in 1979, Iran has observed the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan as “Al-Quds Day,” as a way of expressing support to the Palestinians and emphasizing the importance of Jerusalem to Muslims.

Jerusalem is the third holiest city in Islam after the Saudi Arabian cities of Mecca and Medina.

Meanwhile, thousands of Gazans marched from Beit Lahiya to Jabalya to commemorate “Al-Quds Day.” The protesters burned, Israeli, US and British flags.

Also, on Israel’s northern border, Hizbullah activists and Lebanese Shi’ites held an anti-Israel protest next to the border fence.

Lebanese troops manned the rally and prevented the protesters from approaching the border.

IDF troops in the North were instructed to raise their level of alert.

As we pointed out, in the first Blog we issued the day after the attack, the important thing about the success of the Israeli mission was not what the Israeli aircraft hit in northern Syria, but the fact

Report: Iran worried over Syrian air defense failure in IAF strike

Iran is concerned over the failure of Syria’s air defense systems to detect the Israel Air Force non-stealth aircraft that reportedly carried out an attack inside Syria last month, the American weekly Aviation Week reported on its website on Wednesday.

According to the report, Israel was able to disrupt Syria’s radar and air defense systems and render them ineffective during the IAF strike.

The website reported that Israel used an electronic device, installed in a plane that circled the area, to disrupt Syria’s defenses.

The weekly maintained that Iran is especially concerned over the failure of Syria’ s Ru

ssian-made radar systems. Iran has used similar systems in the past, and is slated to purchase more radar equipment in a future deal worth $750 million. This equipment is apparently designated to protect Iran’s nuclear facilities against attacks from the air.

According to the report, Israel used highly advanced equipment to jam Syria’s defenses, similar to the equipment used in the U.S., which can completely black out a radar system, thus neutralizing the defense missile systems which rely on it.

The website added that since the IAF attack in Syria, many experts around the world have speculated on the reasons behind the fact that Syria’s defenses failed to detect the Israeli planes and prevent the attack.

The publication also said that the technology used to disrupt the Syrian defenses had the capability to misinform the targeted radar system and create a false reading, thus diverting attention from the actual aircraft. The website did not name the kind of technology it was referring to, nor did it attest to the quality of its performance.

In 1982, during the war in Lebanon, Israel operated what was then considered the cutting edge of electronic equipment to disrupt and misinform Lebanese defenses. This equipment facilitated the Israeli attack on Syrian air defense batteries in Lebanon.
