Syria wants their own version of peace on their own version of terms written on a piece of meaningless paper. Just as soon as they get back the Golan Heights, which includes many of the upper headwater sources of the Jordan River, they will begin to divert it even though they have plenty of water, and they will turn the heights into a military nightmare for a lightening jihad attack against Israel, with elevated artillery sites to hammer Israeli positions in the valleys below.

In the original division of the Israeli tribes God allowed Manasseh, one of Joseph’s two sons, to possess the land known as the Golan Heights today, so Israel has a legitimate biblical claim to it.

“Syria will never relinquish its right to return occupied land,” the general continued.

“As President Bashar al-Assad emphasized, Syria is interested in gaining back of all of its rights – including the return of all of its territory and sovereignty.”

During his speech—a month-and-a-half after an IAF raid deep into Syria—Khabib also attacked the US: “The mask has been removed from the real intentions of the US and her allies in their invasion of Iraq.

“This has allowed Arabs to understand the Zionist plans and plots in the region and has made clear that talks about peace and about a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are not genuine and are merely attempts to market what is being referred to as a ‘peace conference,” he said.

The general concluded by saying that “they are neglecting the main principle of the conflict in their attempts to solve it—the need to end the Zionist occupation of conquered Arab territory in accordance with international resolutions.”

Two Peas in a Pod equals Jihad when Shelled!

Ahmadinejad and Jalili are two identical peas in a pod who, if left unchecked, will one day burst forth from the Iranian pod on the world scene as the leaders of a massive jihad against Israel.

If left unchecked, I doubt if there is any real danger of such a Jihad prior to 2010, and it might not occur until 2014, because I seriously doubt if Iran will lead such a charge until they have what they consider a sufficient number of deterrent nuclear warheads ready to launch against Israel. Iran does not want a nuclear war, nor does Syria, Iran, Russia, or China – They want a conventional war of numbers, which they know they can win.

It appears from recent Middle East events that the U.S. and Israel are seriously contemplating an air strike against Iranian nuclear facilities to put a kink in the development of a deliverable nuclear Iranian warhead. If such an air strike occurs, it is likely to happen in 2008 before Bush’s Presidential term ends in January of 2009.

Saeed Jalili, who replaced Ali Larijani as Iran’s top nuclear negotiator at the weekend, is a man of strong moral views who believes spiritual values should inform political actions. His absolute conviction of the rightness of Iran’s cause, and his loyalty to his old friend, Iran’s hardline president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, may make him an awkward interlocutor when nuclear talks with the European Union resume in Rome today.

In a lengthy interview conducted in Tehran last year, Dr Jalili, then a deputy foreign minister, offered a robust world view that simultaneously revealed a lack of understanding and experience of the west largely typical of the Ahmadinejad government. Although his official brief covered Europe and North America, he has spent little or no time there.

Dr Jalili’s views on the nuclear issue reflected this odd mixture of moral certainty and political disingenuousness. “We have announced time and again that we believe in the logic of negotiation. But at the same time we will never give in to the logic of intimidation and threats,” he said.

“Two issues or components have to be considered. One is the concerns of the Europeans.

The other is the inalienable rights of the Iranian nation.”

Iran was not seeking the bomb he said. Iranians had been the victims of weapons of mass destruction, supplied by the west to Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war.

They regarded them as illegal and inhuman.

Dr Jalili said Iran had already gone much further, in terms of a previous two-year suspension of its enrichment research and additional inspections, than it was obliged to do under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT). “Basically what we are dealing with here is nuclear apartheid.

Some countries have rights and others are told they do not have similar rights … I also believe our insistence on our position helps maintain the spirit of the NPT.”

Dr Jalili described Mr Ahmadinejad as an “old friend of mine” whose principal offence, in the eyes of the US and Britain, was to speak truth to the world. The president’s political philosophy began and ended with Islam, he said.

He was leading a “big debate” about how to reinsert justice and spirituality into political life. He defended Mr Ahmadinejad’s controversial threats against Israel.

“He is saying that the state of Israel will fade away if the democratic process is observed [a reference to Iran’s official view that all Palestinians, including those living in exile, should be given a vote] and they will only have themselves to blame.”

There were no difficulties over Judaism inside Iran, he claimed, pointing to the presence of a Jewish MP in Iran’s parliament and a 25,000-strong Jewish community nationwide.

The problem lay instead with Israel and with a “small group of people imposing their views” on the rest of the world.

“It is time the international community did something about this.”

Such conspiracy theories are nothing unusual in Iran. One newspaper this weekend labelled France’s president, Nicolas Sarkozy, a “Zionist henchman” for his warnings about Tehran’s nuclear activities. Dr Jalili’s unexpected elevation to the supreme national security council could help him promote his views.

But the conclusion of many western analysts that his appointment marks a major advance for the Ahmadinejad faction in Iran’s divided government may prove overly simplistic.

The president has recently won battles over other key portfolios, including the oil and industry ministries. But he is under fire over his failure to grow the economy, petrol rationing, and so far unsuccessful privatisation measures. Even conservative members of parliament have criticised the choice of the inexperienced Dr Jalili.

There is evidence, meanwhile, that UN- and US-orchestrated financial sanctions are biting.

All this appears to indicate uncertainty about the wisdom of Iran’s nuclear confrontationalism, unease over its international position, and a resulting, accelerating power struggle in ruling circles as the possibility of a reformist-pragmatist comeback in parliamentary elections next March looms large.

Dr Jalili’s advance is but one move on a much bigger board. And the fact that the displaced Dr Larijani will still attend the Rome talks, as the personal representative of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, suggests the struggle is growing ever more intense.

I suspect what President Putin actually meant by his promise he would not “put Israel in a place where it could be threatened,” was that once a living species is destroyed, it can no longer be threatened.

Ahmadinejad has made it clear he plans to move Israelis into an extinct category, and at the battle of Armageddon I am sure Russia will be glad to help him in his Allah appointed mission.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert traveled to Paris Sunday for talks that will focus on Iran, carrying in his pocket what he said was a guarantee from Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia would not “put Israel in a place where it could be threatened.”

Olmert’s trip to France comes just three days after his lightning visit to Russia and a three-hour meeting with Putin.

Olmert told reporters en route to Paris that his meetings in Russia were “serious and important.” He said he talked extensively with Putin about the Iranian issue and was “satisfied” with what he heard.

Olmert’s snap visit to Russia came after Putin questioned in Teheran whether Iran was developing nuclear weapons and warned the West against attacking Iran.

Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Saltanov and Moscow’s envoy to the Quartet Sergei Yakovlev arrived in Jerusalem on Sunday for two days of talks. The talks are to concentrate on the Palestinian track, but are also expected

to deal somewhat with the Iranian nuclear issue.

The two met on Sunday with Foreign Ministry Director-General Aharon Abramovitch, and are set to meet Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni

and Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Monday.

Israel is expected to impress upon the two the importance of continuing to

isolate Hamas.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the visit was planned some four weeks ago as part of a regional tour that will also take the pair to the PA, Egypt and Jordan. The purpose of the visit, according to the officials, is to hear from the sides their positions in the run-up to the proposed Mideast meeting later this year in Annapolis.

Olmert, meanwhile, is scheduled to meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday, the European leader who Israeli officials say is currently showing more determination than any other European leader to stop the Iranian nuclear march. He is also scheduled to meet French
Prime Minister Francois Fillon and leaders of the local Jewish community.

On Tuesday he will travel to London for meetings with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, opposition head David Cameron and Jewish leaders.

A VERY LONG AWAITED EVENT BY BELIEVERS

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them,

as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

[4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Prophetic buffs around the globe for many centuries have been waiting anxiously for a brief false peace to begin just before the last three and one half years of the tribulation period. The end of the false peace will be marked by a vicious attack against Israel from the north by ten Islamic nations, which will culminate with the final great battle of Armageddon some three and one-half years later.

The sequence of events, according to the prophecies is: (1) The attack from the north, in w

hich two-thirds of the Israeli population is killed (Zechariah 13:8), (2) The remnant (remainder) of surviving Israelis are driven into the Negev Wilderness, where they remain for three and one-half years (Revelation 12:6), (3) The Israeli remnant (1.8 Million) at the battle of Armageddon are victorious by the Second Advent of Messiah, and He restores Israel to a greatness she never knew in her history (Zechariah 13:9, 14:8,9, Ezekiel 37:24-28, Isaiah 2:1-4, and Zechariah 14:21C)

Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God,

Abbas confident solution will be found by 2009

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas expressed confidence Monday a solution would be found to the Middle East crisis before the end of 2008. He also stressed the importance of reconciliation with Hamas.

Abbas, who arrived in Indonesia on Sunday, is seeking support from Muslim allies in Asia ahead of a US-hosted conference involving Israel and the Palestinians.

The gathering, to be held in November or December, will seek a joint declaration outlining a way for the two sides to return to the negotiating table after seven years of bloodshed and diplomatic paralysis.

Washington hopes it also will relaunch negotiations to create a Palestinian state.

“Before the end of 2008, we will have found the real solution we have been hoping for,” Abbas told reporters after discussing ways to achieve a peaceful, lasting resolution to the Middle East crisis with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

He also said Hamas, which he expelled from the Palestinian government after the Islamic group violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in June, “is a part of the Palestinian people and cannot be separated. Nobody denies that.”

“However, they have carried out a coup d’etat against the legitimate government that could divide our unity and dissolve the efforts of peace,” Abbas said, acknowledging, however, that “we cannot move unless we work together” with Hamas.

The first stop in Abbas’s Asian tour was Malaysia, and he is scheduled to travel next to Brunei. Indonesia, which does not recognize Israel, is a secular nation with 235 million people, nearly 95 percent of whom are Muslims.

A Count Down for Iranian Strikes or a Serious Bluff is under Way!

The first DEBKAfile Exclusive announced that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was carrying an urgent message to French President Nicolas Sarkozy to the effect that Iran had crossed the redline for developing a nuclear weapon. The second excerpt from the Jerusalem Post carries the reaction of Sarkozy to Olmert’s concerns after they conferred in Paris.

Events since the success of the Israeli jets in avoiding the sophisticated Russian air defense system in northern Syria, during their successful air strike, have left little doubt that Israel and the U.S. are quite serious in their intent to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat before it becomes operational.

My guess is that the big bad wolf bluff and carrot stick offer technique will be used for

the rest of this year and well into 2008, but I doubt if President Bush will leave this issue for someone else to solve.

If he does not take action and the next election is won by the Democrats, Israel will have to act alone in air strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.

If no action is taken against the Iranian nuclear facilities by air strikes, it is quite likely that Iran could have acquired as many as 12 deliverable nuclear warheads as early as 2010 or as late as 2014. When that many are obtained, I am guessing Iran will consider it is a sufficient deterrent to launch a conventional 10 Islamic nation attack against Israel, which will begin the last three and on-half years of the tribulation period.

It’s too late for sanctions

This is the message prime minister Ehud Olmert is carrying urgently to French President Nicolas Sarkozy Monday and British premier Gordon Brown Tuesday, according to DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources.

Last week, Olmert placed the Israeli intelligence warning of an Iranian nuclear breakthrough before Russian president Vladimir Putin, while Israel’s defense minister Ehud Barak presented the updated intelligence on the advances Iran has made towards its goal of a nuclear weapon to American officials in Washington, including President Bush.

Olmert will be telling Sarkozy and Brown that the moment for diplomacy or even tough sanctions has passed. Iran can only be stopped now from going all the way to its goal by direct, military action.

Information of the Iranian breakthrough prompted the latest spate of hard-hitting US statements. Sunday, Oct. 21, US vice president Cheney said: “Our country, and the entire international community, cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its grandest ambitions.”

Friday, the incoming Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Michael Mullen said US forces are capable of operations against Iran’s nuclear facilities or other targets. At his first news conference, he said: “I don’t think we’re stretched in that regard.”

It is worth noting that whereas Olmert’s visits are officially tagged as part of Israel’s campaign for harsher sanctions against Iran, his trips are devoted to preaching to the converted, leaders who advocate tough measures including a military option; he has avoided government heads who need persuading, like German Chancellor Angela Merkel or Italian prime minister Romano Prodi.

The Israeli prime minister hurried over to Moscow last Thursday after he was briefed on the hard words exchanged between Putin and Iran’s supreme ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran Tuesday, Oct.

According to DEBKAfile’s sources, the Russian leader warned the ayatollah that the latest development in Iran’s nuclear program prevented him from protecting Tehran from international penalties any longer; the clerical regime’s options were now reduced, he said, to halting its clandestine nuclear activities or else facing tough sanctions, or even military action.

The Russian ruler’s private tone of speech was in flat contrast to his public denial of knowledge of Iranian work on a nuclear weapon. It convinced Olmert to include Moscow in his European itinerary.

Our sources in Iran and Moscow report that Putin’s dressing-down of Khamenei followed by his three-hour conversation with the Israeli prime minister acted as catalysts for Iranian hardliners’s abrupt action in sweeping aside senior nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani Saturday, Oct. 20 and the Revolutionary Guards General Mahmoud Chaharbaghi’s threat to fire 11,000 rockets and mortars at enemy targets the minute after Iran comes under attack.

Our military sources say Tehran could not manage to shoot off this number of projectiles on its own.

Iran would have to co-opt allies and surrogates, Syria, Hizballah, Hamas and pro-Tehran militias in Iraq to the assault.

DEBKAfile’s US military sources disclosed previously that if, as widely reported, Syria is in the process of building a small reactor capable of producing plutonium on the North Korean model, Iran must certainly have acquired one of these reactors before Syria, and would then be in a more advanced stage of plutonium production at a secret underground location.

Sarkozy tells Olmert: Israel’s security isn’t up for discussion

Reflecting a dramatic, positive shift in the tone of Franco-Israeli ties, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert emerged very upbeat from a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris on Monday, saying that the Israeli and French positions on the Iranian nuclear program were “identical.”

“I could not have expected to hear better things than I heard on the Iranian issue,” Olmert told reporters at a briefing after his 90-minute talk with Sarkozy.

Olmert’s satisfaction with the meeting was not limited to the Iranian issue, as – according to Olmert – Sarkozy said that Israel’s security was not a topic for discussion, and that “Israel’s establishment is a miracle and may have been the central event of the twentieth century.”

Furthermore, Sarkozy also reportedly told Olmert regarding the Palestinian claim to a right of return for Palestinian refugees that the Palestinians cannot demand a state for themselves and, in addition, “part of your country.”
