US and Indian military sources say that, if successful, the twin launch by the same Polaris/TecSat vehicle Sept. 17-20 will add Israel to the few nations with imaging radar reconnaissance satellites able to distinguish camouflaged vehicles from rocky terrain – by night and through foliage.

The Israeli military satellite will lift off along with India’s first military recon spacecraft, Cartosat 2A.

They will be fired in an approximately 600-km polar orbit atop the same Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle from

an island in the Bay of Bengal.

The data-gathering features of Polaris 1 are especially pertinent for a potential attack on Iran’ s nuclear facilitie

s.

DEBKAfile’s military sources add that the Israeli satellite’s ability to “see through” cloud and foliage and distinguish between camouflaged vehicles and rocks, provide an answer for Iran’s ingenious camouflaging methods employed by Hizballah in the 2006 Lebanese war.

The Indian Cartosat 2A spacecraft on the same mission is secret. It c arries

a powerful panchromatic camera.

New Delhi is interested in buying Israel’s imaging radar satellite design for its reconnaissance operations which focus on Pakistan, China and increasingly the US.

Polaris 1 is electronically steered, and its synthetic aperture radar has a 1-meter resolution; its differing spot, mosaic and strip modes provide many different radar aspect angles from which to illuminate ground targets, a huge military asset for precise data-gathering on Iran’s military weapons systems and an improvement over the information available to ordinary spy satellites.

Polaris radar-imaging intelligence features compare in quality to the U-2’s Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar 2A sensor, according to Jeff Grant, a Northrop Grumman official.

Our military sources report that the new radar satellite continues the spurt in Israeli milsat development and complements the features of another new imaging reconnaissance spacecraft, Ofek-7 which was launched in June and offers an improved, half-meter resolution.

Western military sources report that in February and March 2007, Israel carried out at least three more successful satellite launchings but was equally successful in blanketing them with secrecy.

Kathy Griffin’s Unfunny Jesus Jokes

Nearly everyone with a television can make jokes about TV awards shows, especially the speech-making.

How many times have people made the hoariest jokes about thanking the “little people,” or mimicking Sally Field’s Oscar speech: “You like me! You really like me!” But Kathy Griffin, the comedienne with the self-satirizing “My Life on the D-List” show on that D-list network Bravo, took the ritual to a new low when she won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program.

She mocked Jesus Christ.

“A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award,” she declared. “I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.

So, all I can say is, ‘Suck it, Jesus.’ This award is my god now.”

The audience reaction

? Reporters noted laughter in the crowd. Griffin certainly knows Hollywood diehards would be pounding the tables over that one.

It’s certainly a ritual for entertainers to thank God or Jesus when they win awards. Some of them are very sincere, like gospel singers at the Grammy Awards. Others have looked more than a little ridiculous, such as during the Vibe Magazine Awards in 2005, when several rappers took home awards for “songs” with nasty lyrics about shooting people — and then thanked God.

Griffin could have mocked the ritual without mocking Jesus and millions of Christians. But she had to shock, to say, “Suck it,” and suggest she’d rather worship her Emmy award like it was a pagan goddess.

Was she sorry? No. Reuters reported she was “unrepentant” when asked about the speech backstage.

In fact, she was well pleased with herself: “I hope I offended some people. I didn’t want to win the Emmy for nothing.” Griffin’s official Website giddily declared her line “will go down as one of the best quotes in Emmy history.”

The public doesn’t think so, and Hollywood knows it.

The cable channel E! announced they would scrub the remark from their taped broadcast of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

(It wasn’t part of the more prominent Emmy show that aired on Fox.) Some media outlets also scrubbed the actual remarks from their news stories.

Associated Press reporter Lynn Elber would only explain Griffin made “an off-color remark about Christ.” Some TV outlets, like MSNBC, also scrubbed the line in their retelling of the story. Good for them.

That wasn’t as strange as Reuters, which began its dispatch with the words “Comic Kathy Griffin’s ‘offensive’ remarks about Jesus” will be edited out. Employing quote marks around a word is meant as a warning light that something isn’t necessarily so. An insult against Jesus Christ isn’t necessarily “offensive,” according to this wire service.

Reuters, you may remember, also doesn’t believe the 9-11 murderers were necessarily “terrorists.”

Kathy Griffin has this kind of double standard, too. Many irreverent performers aren’t equal-opportunity besmirchers. Griffin appeared clutching her Emmy on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show a day after the furor broke, and when DeGeneres suggested it can be tough on the other side of the joke, as she was the butt of a lot of jokes when she declared she was gay, Griffin turned dead serious and insisted: “Not mine. Not mine.” Griffin would never mock a gay person. But Jesus and Christians

? Bombs away.

Griffin explained that she had rules about her targets, and one was, “I don’t make fun of people who have a sense of humor about themselves.” So, in this case, with one enormously broad brush, Kathy Griffin has decided that the vast majority of Christians are incapable of taking a joke. But there is funny, and there is insulting. Griffin doesn’t have a clue of the difference.

The funny thing is that for someone who doesn’t like religious phonies, Griffin is the biggest phony of them all.

In a scabrous interview with a gay newspaper in Houston, Griffin called herself a “complete militant atheist” and complained, “We have to listen to everybody’s ‘God this’ and ‘Jesus that.'” She told that interviewer she fell away from the “stupid” Catholic Church in high school in the 1970s.

But then Reuters quoted one spin-control attempt issued by her publicist after her Emmy insult: “Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?” And guess what she wore on her necklace on the Ellen show? A visible golden cross.

Saddam Hussein’s technicians went to great lengths to modify ancient Scud missiles the former Soviet Union unloaded on him out of very old inventory.

However, the age and type of the Scuds he possessed were impossible to modify to carry chemical or biological warheads.

I have always believed that Saddam Hussein transferred his chemical and biological Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) across the Iraqi border with Syria when the Allied forces invaded Iraq, by an agreement reached between Bashar and Saddam at the border some seven months before Iraq was attacked.

Dozens died in Syrian-Iranian chemical weapons experiment’

Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the development and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light Monday in a Jane’s Magazine report that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.

According to the report, cited by Channel 10, the joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas and VX gas.

The factory was created specifically for the purposes of altering ballistic missiles to carry chemical payloads, the magazine report claimed.

Reports of the accident were circulated at the time, however, no details were released by the Syrian government, and there were no hints of an Iranian connection.

The report comes on the heels of criticism leveled by the Syrians at the United States, accusing it of spreading “false” claims of Syrian nuclear activity and cooperation with North Korea to excuse an alleged Israeli air incursion over the country this month.

According to Global Security.org, Syria is not a signatory of either the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), – an international agreement banning the production, stockpiling or use of chemical weapons, or the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Syria began developing chemical weapons in 1973, just before the Yom Kippur War. Global Security.org cites the country as having one of the most advanced chemical weapons programs in the Middle East.

Whatever Happened to the WMD in Iraq

This has been an intriguing question that has produced a lot of political hay for those who say the Iraqi WMD did not exist, but were merely an excuse to invade Iraq. And, to be perfectly honest, no one knows for sure what happened to the WMD. There was an event, which I did report in Special Prophecy Update Number 81A, that I really did not understand involving Iraq and Syria, and it did indeed seem strange at the time, considering past relationships between the two countries. The following three paragraph quote is taken from the August 17, 2002 Update 81A, titled “More Strategic Dialog Among the 10 Toes,” which was written some seven months before Iraq was invaded by coalition forces.

“Iraq has recently been conducting large-scale military maneuvers on the Syrian border, reportedly by prior agreement with Syria’s new President Bashar Assad. Bashar then made a trip to Iran to hold talks with its President Mohammad Khatami. The talks were described as a strategic dialog.

The healing process is taking time because of all the past conflicts that have occurred between these nations, but it is progressing because of a common healing balm – Their natural hatred for Israel, which far exceeds their dislike for each other. The great breaches between them occurred in the last decade. Iraq and Iran fought a very bitter war that took the lives of millions. The relations between Iraq and Syria, which are ruled by two rival wings of the Baath party, were severed in the eighties, but have been on the mend since 1997, fueled mainly by trade links.

We have covered these trade links in detail in previous updates, as well as

the sneaky way that Syria is militarily assisting Iraq and receiving oil benefits in return.

This is one of the reasons that Bashar, last month, sent a message to Saddam on the thirty-fourth anniversary of his rival Baath party rising to power in Baghdad. In the message he underlined his desire to boost the brotherly ties between Iraq and Syria.

An independent Jordanian newspaper, Al Hilal, reported that last week Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with Iraq’s Saddam Hussein on the border between the two countries. The article said Assad took along his brother, Maher, and the head of the Syrian Intelligence Service with him to the meeting. During the meeting the report stated that Saddam presented Assad with an ancient rifle taken from the Iraqi museum.”

This meeting between two presidents of two rival Baath parties of two countries, who did not like or trust each other, seemed strange to me at the time. Recent reports from a senior Syrian journalist, Nizar Najoef, who has recently defected to Western Europe, suggest that this meeting may have been for more than just a get together for a friendly chat. It may have been to coordinate the transfer of Iraq’s WMD across the border into Syria in the event Iraq was overrun by foreign forces, and the Iraqi maneuvers along the border on the Iraqi side may have involved the scurrying movement of special units of Saddam’s Republican Guard, who could have been in the process of concealing them along the border for a quick transfer to the Syrians, if necessary.

I linked the events of Upd ate 81A in 2002 with

a report from a Dutch newspaper article of January 5, 2004. It carried a letter from Nizar Nijoef in which he identified three Syrian sites where Iraq’s WMD are stored.

here they are hidden. Does he know? I honestly don’t know, and I cannot vouch for the validity of his claim, but it does explain the strange meeting of Assad and Hussein in 2002.

The Newspaper was “Die Telegraff,” and Nijoef claims the storage places to be as follows:

1. Sjinsjar on the Lebanese border with Syria.

2. The villege of Tal Snan.

3. In a vast complex of tunnels that are part of a great underground factory, built by the North Koreans, for producing Syrian Scud missiles. He claims that Iraqi chemical weapons and long-range missiles are stored in these tunnels. This underground complex is said to be beneath the town of al- Baida near the city of Hama in northern Syria.

Is his report the truth

? I don’t know! But if it is, then you may rest assured the U.S. and Israeli Intelligences will find out, or already know one way or the other. And if is true, and I were Bashar Assad, I would be making every effort to make peace with Israel and to get on the “good side” of the United States before

they took action to eliminate the WMD. Oddly enough, this is precisely what Assad has been doing over the last two months.

Will the World Seize

the Moment?

The answer to the question poised by the title of this article will, to a large extent, determine the length

of time from now until 10 Islamic nations attack Israel

from the north. If the world seizes the moment, described by Herb Keinon in the Jerusalem Post article which follows, a Major Middle East war may not break out for another seven years. Syria and Iran are not ready for a major Middle East war. If one was to break out at the present time the Islamic world would be soundly defeated, and they know it.

If they wait until they have a nuclear deterrent, have developed an effective aircraft and missile detection and destruction system, and seen the last of U.S. troops in Iraq, then they can and will win a major Middle East war.

The actions and reactions, of the players in the IAF penetration into the teeth of a Russian Detection and Destruction System to knock out a dangerous cache of WMD materials, will be very interesting to observe during the next few months. The Scriptures indicate we are due for a major war in the Middle East, but if the world seizes the moment, 2008 and 2009 may be a tad early for it to occur. As I have indicated in my previous guesstimate, 2010 to 2013 would be the most likely time for a major Middle East war to begin.

Analysis: There’s a reason world is quiet on alleged IAF strike

The world, it’s fair to say, doesn’t like North Korea. Indeed, it’s a tough country to love, especially since dictator Kim Jong Il lets his people starve while he tests various nuclear devices.

It is also fair to say that the world, for the most part, dislikes the idea of a nuclear Middle East. Witness French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner’s recent comment that France should prepare for the possibility of war over Iran’s nuclear program.

So add North Korea together with foreign reports of nukes in the Middle East, and what you get is a situation for which the international community has very little patience.

And that, according to foreign new reports, is what the IAF’s excursion into Syrian skies the other night was all about: stopping the proliferation, via North Korea, of nuclear capability to the Middle East.

While on an existential level, the prospect of Syrian President Bashar Assad – deep in cahoots with Hizbullah and Hamas – in possession of anything nuclear is deeply frightening, and if we believe the foreign reports, on a diplomatic level the fact that the world media is writing “North Korea,” ‘nuclear cache” and “Syria” together in the same sentence could actually be beneficial for Israel.

First of all, if indeed the alleged IAF sortie over Syria had to do with a nuclear shipment from Pyongyang, then Israel’s stock has to go up because it will be seen in a few key capitals as the force that will not allow nuclear proliferation in the region.

It is interesting to note, by the way, the resounding lack of condemnation – either in Europe or even in the Arab world – to Israel’s alleged attack.

Secondly, the alleged North Korean nuclear connection will put Damascus – already not in the world’s good graces – even more on the defensive.

It’s one thing to harbor terrorists who want to destroy Israel, it’s another thing to allegedly have been involved in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, but it is something different entirely to get into the same nuclear bed with North Korea.

If the first two offensives are, in the eyes of the world, pardonable because of various bilateral interests, the third would be much more difficult to forgive. The alleged Syrian-North Korean connection could move Syria from being just an unpopular state to

being a pariah regime.

And Damascus doesn’t want pariah state status. Syria, which has shown that it does want contact with the outside world, has no desire to be quarantined and ostracized as North Korea has been.

Which is where certain diplomatic opportunities just may present themselves.

Damascus, it is safe to assume, will want to shrug off a North Korean image and present itself as a responsible player on the international scene.

It has even expressed interest in coming to the international Middle East meeting that the US is planning later this year.

The allegations of a North Korean-Syrian connection could make the time ripe, therefore, for Israel to push the world to place certain conditions on Syria’s being accepted back into the international fold.

The conditions are obvious, and ones that Israel has been demanding – without any success at all – for years: kicking the terrorist organizations out of Damascus, first and foremost Hamas and its leader Khaled Mashaal, and an end to the support and the supply of weapons to Hizbullah.

In the past Syria has just ignored these calls. But now, in order to avoid being seen as North Korea’s kid brother, it may have no choice but to pay a little attention.

The alleged connection to North Korea makes Syria vulnerable.

The question is whether the world will seize the moment.

Peres: Israel Gave Land Before, but Rec’d No Peace, No Security

(IsraelNN.com) President Shimon Peres says the “land for peace” formula on which Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is working has not worked for Israel.

Speaking on Tuesday to some 150 foreign reporters at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem Peres poured coldish water on the plans to give up 95% of Judea and Samaria for an Arab state.

It is known that Prime Minister Olmert is working on just such a plan, in anticipation of the upcoming US-sponsored international summit this November.

“The chemistry between Olmert and [PA chief Mahmoud] Abbas is good,” Peres said, “but this does not mean they have reached any conclusions.”

The presidential speech was broadcast around the world, including on Al-Jazeera.

Summing up the situation for those who might not have known, Peres said, “The problems are peace, land, and security… In similar cases, like in Gaza and Lebanon, Israel gave up land – but received neither peace nor security.”

“The negotiations are direct, and I don’ t believe

that intermediaries are needed. The leaders are talking to each other, and to their nations at the same time.

Only the Palestinian president and the Israeli prime minister can determine how far and how fast to go without losing the support of their peoples.”

“We have been forced to fight seven wars and two intifadas in our 60 years of existence,” Peres said. “That is, we have had a war every seven years. It is now our hope to form peace with the Palestinians, with the Syrians, and regional peace with all the Arab nations.”

Peres continued a familiar refrain of his by saying that modern war is less about borders than about money: “Wars today are not carried out with tanks or ships, but rather with rockets and weapons of mass destruction. War is more ballistic than geographic.”

Expanding on the same theme, Peres said, “The value of borders, lands, and distances has dropped; the importance today is more economic.”

Peres said that he told the Special European Union envoy to the Middle East, ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair, that the EU should “stop supporting the Palestinians financially; they have received a billion dollars a year that were used for corruption and caused the toppling of the Fatah in Gaza. Instead, the money should be used to support the establishment of industrial areas for employment in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.”

As Promised – Blow Hard Rhetoric out of Red Faced Iran!

Iran is whistling loudly in the graveyard, trying to artificially keep up its faded courage. Iran discovered its nuclear and military sites do not have the great protection from aircraft and missile attacks, which was promised to them by the recently acquired Russian Detection Systems.

Syria’s protection was proven to be a myth by the success of the Israeli air strike in northern Syria.

Their anticipated whistling is in the form of threatening rhetoric against Israel. It is blow hard, hot air, rhetoric.

They do not have 600 launch proficient Shihab-3’s to send up. Even if they did, none of them have nuclear warheads – Israel’s do! The Shihab-3 testing has been limited. Israel has a missile detection and destruction system that works.

Blow hard rhetoric, the U.S. and Israel know is all hot air, is all that Iran can launch upwards at the present time. Who knows, this might cause even a man as fanatical as Ahmadinejad to back off. I imagine his religious superiors are all over him now like a duck on a June bug. If Syria and Iran want to win a war with Israel they had better back up, develop an effective air and missile shield, allow UN inspectors back into Iran, find a way to secretly develop a deterrent nuclear weapon, and employ some of their well known Persian and Syrian cunning to lead Israel down a dead end peace path of deceit. If they start a war now they will flat lose it, which is one of the reasons I chose the time frame of 2008 to the end of 2012 as the most likely time frame of an Islamic attack against Israel, with the most favorable part of it being from 2010 to 2013.

600 Iranian missiles said to be pointed at targets in Israel

Six hundred Iranian Shihab-3 missiles are pointed at targets throughout Israel, and will be launched if either Iran or Syria is attacked, an Iranian website affiliated with the regime reported on Monday.

“Iran will shoot at Israel 600 missiles if it is attacked,” the Iranian news website, Assar Iran, reported. “600 missiles will only be the first reaction.”

According to the report, dozens of locations throughout Iraq, which are being used by the US Army, have also been targeted.

The Shihab missile has a range of 1,300 km, and can reach anywhere in Israel.

On Sunday, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said that the nuclear Iranian crisis forces the world “to prepare for the worst,” and said that in this case it “is war.”

Kouchner emphasized, however, that negotiations should still be the preferred course of action.

Kouchner, quoted by French daily Le Figaro, added that “Iran does whatever it pleases in Iraq … one cannot find in the entire world a crisis greater than this one.”

In response to Kouchner’s comments, Iran’s state-owned news agency accused France of pandering to the interests of the United States.

“The new occupants of the Elysee (Presidential palace) want to copy the White House,” the IRNA news agency said in an editorial.

The editorial added that French President Nicolas Sarkozy was taking on “an American skin.”

Kouchner’s statements came just hours after US Defense Secretary Robert Gates reiterated the Bush administration’s commitment, at least for the time being, to using diplomatic and economic means to counter the potential nuclear threat from Iran.

Olmert is prepared to enter unconditional talks with Syria

Nearly two weeks after reports surrounding an alleged IAF incursion into Syrian skies began circulating, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced Monday that Israel was prepared to hold negotiations with the Damascus.

The prime minister also addressed the Iranian threat, asserting that Israel “is not afraid.”

” We want to make peace with everyone.

If the conditions allow for it, we are ready to make peace with Syria without preconditions and without ultimatums. I have a lot of respect for the Syrian leader and for Syrian policy” said Olmert.

The prime minister was addressing Russian-language media outlets when he said that although the Syrians “have an internal problem, there is no reason to reject dialogue with the country.”

Olmert said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “is trying to create a psychology of fear. [He is doing] this to convince the international community to enter talks with him.

“There are exaggerations here. We are not afraid, we are worried,” Olmert argued. We don’t need to lose our senses,” he added.
