I do not believe anything major will spring up out of the clamor of this particular alert of dread described in the two articles which follow.

But I do believe it will be this sort of an incident that starts a major war at some point in time I guesstimate to occur between 2008 and the end of 2012, with the most likely

time beginning time to be between 2010 and 2013.

Israeli official spokesmen declined to comment on the Syrian News Agency claim that Israeli warplanes entered its air space from the Mediterranean Sea Wednesday night and flew opposite Al Raqqah in northeastern Syria, breaking the sound barrier.

Syria fire forced them to leave without causing casualties, says the report.

The Israeli jets “dropped ammunition” over deserted areas of northern Syria early on Thursday, said a Syrian military spokesman. He warned “the Israeli enemy against repeating its aggressive action” and said his government reserved the right to respond in an appropriate manner.

A Western diplomat in Damascus said Thursday night: It appears that the Israeli planes were on a reconnaissance mission when they got caught by Syrian defenses and were forced to drop their bombs and extra fuel tanks.

DEBKAfile military sources speculate that Damascus may be seeking to raise military temperatures already high between the two countries for its own purposes, or else fabricating a pretext to go on the offensive directly against Israeli targets on the Golan, or indirectly through its allies.

Analysis: The miscalculation we’d been dreading?

Since the Second Lebanon War, both Israel and Syria have been preparing their militaries for war. The assumption within the defense establishment was that a “miscalculation” – the IDF’s word for a misstep, wrong move or accidental misunderstanding along the Golan Heights – could lead to armed conflict.

Syria’s claim that Israel Air Force jets infiltrated its airspace pre-dawn Thursday has the potential of becoming just that – a miscalculation – and depending on President Bashar Assad’s response, it could very well lead to all-out war.

Not much is known about the late-night flyover.

The IDF is, unusually, refusing to comment, and most of the information coming out on the incident is from Syrian military and government sources. The IDF’s response is intended to blur the incident.

If the Syrian report is true, as it seems to be, the question which begs to be asked is what was a formation of four-to-five IAF fighter jets doing over the northern Syrian coastal city of Latakia?

There are several possibilities: Firstly that the planes were collecting intelligence, possibly connected to Syria’s Scud missile launchers that are believed to be stored in the northern part of the country.

If that is the case, then why did they break the sound barrier, as the Syrians reporte

d? If they were intelligence surveillance aircraft,

they probably would have wanted to operate covertly and not out in the open.

There could be several explanations – Israel might have been checking out the capabilities of Syria’s newly-delivered and Russian-developed anti-aircraft systems.

Whatever it was, the question the IDF top brass is asking itself now is – will the incident lead to war

? Following the Second Lebanon War and the rising tensions with Damascus, Military Intelligence’s assessment was that the IDF no longer had the privilege of flying over Syria without risking a harsh military response.

Forays, like the one over Assad’s palace in Latakia following the abduction of Cpl. Gilad Schalit in Gaza last June, were now deemed dangerous moves that ran the risk of leading Israel and Syria to war.

What is concerning is the escalation in Syrian rhetoric, particularly the remarks made by the Syrian information minister, who said Thursday that his country would “find the way” to respond to the alleged Israeli infiltration.

According to IDF assessments, Syria is not really interested in an armed conflict with Israel but has – since the Second Lebanon War – been preparing for war. Due to a lack of communication between the two countries, the IDF assessment has been that a war could erupt if a diplomatic resolution is not reached beforehand.

If it wants war, this could explain why Syria is playing up the alleged infiltration – preparing to use the IAF flyover as their casus belli and as an excuse to be used to accuse Israel of committing an act of aggression that led to war.

Hamas TV Indoctrinating Children for Holy War

Every Monday afternoon Hamas’ Al-Aqsa TV broadcasts a children’s program called “Brilliant Children.”

The Sep. 3 episode, a special for the beginning of the school year, featured a child named “Ahmad,” whose field of expertise was jihad holy war).

The “brilliant” jihad warrior is seen wearing a camouflage suit, holding a rifle and miming military actions.

Such programs are meant to indoctrinate the younger generation of Palestinians with Hamas’ radical Islamic ideology, at the core of which is jihad – part of Hamas’ long-term strategy to train new generations to destroy Israel.

Close to the Edge: Residents of Israeli Town Have Endured Over 2,000 Palestinian Rocket Attacks

On a summer morning, the hubbub and bustle of the central market place in Sderot is interrupted by the wailing of sirens and the urgent voice of a woman repeating “Tzeva Adom” (Red Alert) over the public address system.

Another Kassam rocket has been launched by Palestinian militants in Gaza and is heading towards the town. Residents of Sderot are only too well aware that the warning gives

them a maximum of 15 seconds to take cover. Some shoppers respond instantly, scurrying for the freestanding steel-and-concrete shelters, known as “life shields,” dotted around public places. Others panic, running in one direction then another, spilling fruit and vegetables from their shopping bags.

Sderot is a town of 24,000, a little more than a mile away from the Palestinian city of Beit Hanoun. In the past five years, more than 2,000 rockets have struck homes, schools, offices, factories and a local synagogue. Eight people have been killed (three of them small children) and dozens more wounded. At Sderot’s center for the treatment of shock victims, Dr.

Adriana Katz talks about the invisible wounds inflicted on the hundreds of patients in her care by the relentless barrages.

She says the Palestinian rockets “have largely destroyed the normal fabric of life in the town.

Everyone exists in a state of permanent alert, which is physically and psychologically very destructive….We do our best to prevent people lapsing into full-blown post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”

The most tragic victims of the rockets are Sderot’s children, one in three of whom suffers from PTSD, according to a survey published last year. Like their parents, they spend much of their lives “on alert,” dreading the next attack, unable to concentrate at school or enjoy

the normal pleasures of childhood at home.

a Brief False Peace will Come!

There is an event I have waited for more than 40 years to see in Israel, namely, a brief false peace, which would immediately precede an attack by 10 Islamic nations against Israel.

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in d

arkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

When I wrote my first books in the early seventies of the last century, I guesstimated the attack would occur at some point in time prior to 2008, and stated so in more than 600 lectures across the U.S., Africa, the Pacific, and Eurasia from 1978 to 2005. The guess was tied to my belief that when Israel had held the Old City of Jerusalem in Christ’s day for 40 years, the likelihood of such an attack would be enhanced.

By the close of the last century it became obvious that Middle East Events were moving slower than I had anticipated so, in Archive Prophecy Update Number 7, February 2001, I made the following statement concerning a guesstimate for the time range during which I considered it likely the attack would occur.

PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 3

We broadcast a 30 minute program out of Germany every Sunday morning at 0830 UTC on a frequency of 5.975 MHz. It is on the Voice of Europe, and is called “Remnant of Messiah.” So each time a new election is held in Israel we get queries from Europe and Africa. Additionally, we get calls from across the United States because of the lecture series I have conducted for 21 years. The queries usually involve which candidate I think will win the election.

It was not easy to predict the election when Benjamin Netanyahu won. But it was easy to predict his defeat by Ehud Barak, as well as Barak’s recent defeat by Ariel Sharon.

The polls were quite definite as to who would win the last two elections. After an election we get even more queries as to whether or not the new leader can bring peace with the Palestinians. I do not mind answering these queries, in fact

I rather enjoy it when I have time to do it. But there is something far more important in the peace process than who leads Israel and who leads the Palestinians.

I retired from the USAF/National Security Agency as a synoptic analyst.

When one analyzes anything, it is imperative to advance from what controls the conclusion of the problem being examined.

Some problems do not have a definite controlling factor, and all the factors, both incidental and insignificant, must be given the appropriate weight in making a forecast of the outcome. However, this is not the case in making a determination of when peace will come between Israel and the Palestinians.

The controlling factor which determines when a false peace will come to Israel, rests solely with the terrorist groups that plague her. There can never be a period of peace, even false peace, without the approval of all the terrorist groups.

Yassar Arafat cannot control the terrorist groups, nor can any other single Arab leader. The terrorist complex of Osama Bin Laden, the Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Hisbullah, and Fatah are really controlled by leaders in Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Until these leaders finally come to the conclusion that the only way Israel can be driven into the Negev is by being lulled into a false sense of security, the terrorist groups will continue to operate, and the killing will continue.

I believe these terrorist groups will eventually realize that if they really want to slaughter Jews by the hundreds of thousands, and drive the rest into the Negev, they will have to lull Israel into a brief period of false peace.

When this happens, an agreement will be reached between Israel and the Palestinians. So my advice to those who want to get a feel of when the false peace will come is this: WATCH the terrorist groups. When their actions drop to zero, and stay there for a while, you may rest assured it has been as a result of meetings behind closed doors between the leaders of the aforementioned nations, and the leaders of the terrorist groups they sponsor.

I don’t pay much attention to any leader of Israel or the Palestinians. The terrorist groups are the key to a false peace in the Mid-East. When they grasp that by appearing to cease their activities they will be able, at a later time, to kill many Jews, and drive the rest into the Negev, they will settle down and wait for the surprise attack against Israel from the north. Ariel Sharon may try to put a “forced peace” on the Palestinians before the terrorist groups shut down. This was one of the options considered by his party in

the past.

But it will not work. Watch for a cessation of terrorism. Then, after a brief period of false peace look for a vicious surprise attack from the north out of Syria.

The terrorist groups are under the control of several leaders. These leaders follow the dictates of several Islamic nations, and they must be part of the plan to trick Israel into a feeling of false security. Two of the best known terrorist groups are Hamas, headed by Khaled al-Mashaal, and Hizbullah, headed

by Sheik Hassan Nasrallah. Recently, the two groups have been operating independently of each other, seeming vying with each other to see who could gain the greatest terrorist glory in attacks against Israel.

Hizbullah’s followers are Shiite Muslims, while the Hamas is basically composed of the Sunni branch of the Islamic faith. Hizbullah is based in Beirut, Lebanon, and Hamas is based in Gaza, but they have numerous outreach headquarters. Hamas wants ALL of existing Israel to become an Islamic Republic. Both Hamas and Hizbullah are anxious for the nations of Islam to declare a Jihad (Holy War) against Israel.

Recently, Iran, which has the main control over these two groups, issued a call from its terrorist backers in her government, to come and meet with them. They called Khaled and Hassan to Tehran. The purpose of this meeting was to put the two in a cooperative mood, and to instruct them concerning the plans for a future Jihad against Israel. There will be many other sessions, behind closed doors, between the leaders of the Islamic nations before the Jihad begins. Israel must be lulled into a false sense of security before a Jihad can be successful, and it must be well coordinated to insure success. The Arab leaders of the Islamic nations must carefully plan the Jihad, and part of that planning would include the gradual decline of all terrorist activities against Israel.

Ahmadinejad to meet Palestinian leaders

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to meet with Palestinian faction leaders in Teheran on Thursday, in an attempt to resolve the crisis between Fatah and Hamas, the United Arab Emirates paper Al-Khaleej reported on Wednesday.

Participants in the meeting will include Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah, Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) leader Nayef Hawatmeh, and the leader of the Syrian- backed Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, Ahmed Jibril.

In addition, senior Fatah leader-in-exile Farouk Kadoumi, an adversary of Palestini

an Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, will join the meeting, the report said.

According to Iran’s Mehr news agency, Kadoumi met with Ahmadinejad on Tuesday. The Iranian leader praised the Palestinian organization for staying true to the path of “armed struggle,” the report said.

“The Palestinian problem is still a gaping wound for the entire Islamic world and nations of the region,” Ahmadinejad said. “The only way to treat it is through the resistance of the Palestinian nation, along with faith, unity and an unwavering stance.”

The Iranian President added that nobody was capable of defeating the Arabs of Palestine, and promised that the world’s superpowers were headed for destruction.

In January 2006, Ahmadinejad held meetings in Damascus with many of the same Palestinian leaders. In those talks, the Iranian president reaffirmed his country’s support for the “Palestinian people’s struggle,” PFLP representative Maher Taher said in a statement afterwards.

DEBKAfile Exclusive: In a warning to Egypt, Israel states new situation leaves no option but military action to halt weapons flow to Gaza

The warning was relayed to Cairo in the last 24 hours.

DEBKAfile’s military sources disclose that the message means Israeli armed forces are standing by for an order to recapture the Philadelphi route running along the southern Gaza border with Egypt.

The “new situation” does not refer to the upsurge of missile fire against Sderot, but the Egyptian security forces’ discovery Sun., Sept. 2, of 2.7 tons of explosives in the el-Gefgafa area 100 km southwest of the northern Sinai town of El Arish The cache was destined for the Palestinian Hamas and Jihad Islami in the Gaza Strip. Our sources reveal that it also contained for the first time several dozen 240 mm Katyusha rockets of the type used by Hizballah to blast northern Israel last year.

From Gaza, these rockets can reach the southern approaches of Beersheba, not just the towns of Ashkelon and Netivot.

According to intelligence input, the rockets were intended for immediate use by the two Palestinian groups. This information convinced Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert, defense minister Ehud Barak and chief of staff, Lt.

Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi that radical military action can no longer be delayed.

They decided that the Philadelphi route – evacuated by Israel two years ago with the rest of the Gaza Strip – would have to be retaken.

The timing will be determined at the security cabinet session Wed. Sept. 5.

DEBKAfile’s military sources add that Israel sent the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas an abbreviated version of the warning to Cairo.

The message to Egypt contained full operational details to emphasize that Israel has no wish to infringe on Egyptian sovereignty.

It left an opening for President Hosni Mubarak to avert the Israeli operation by ordering Egyptian security forces to take full control of the Egyptian-Gaza border sector.

Senior Israeli officials strongly doubt this will happen and expect it to be left to the IDF.

They are taking into account that all the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip will be led by Hamas and Jihad Islami in a violent response to Israel’s capture of Philadelphi by emptying their missile stocks on Israeli towns and villages in addition to Sderot.

Tuesday, Sept. 4, therefore, defense minister Barak extended the “special situation” decree governing the border region around Gaza by 48 hours.

This emergency decree grants the IDF’s Southern Command competence over civilian affairs, such as opening and closing schools, medical facilities and factories, the evacuate of civilians if warranted by the security situation, and authorizing war damages to institutions, businesses and private citizens.

At the end of 48 hours, the defense minister will request a further extension, possibly for

a month, from the government, followed by

the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.

80,000 illegal arms in terrorist hands in W. Bank

Over 80,000 illegal weapons are believed to be in the hands of West Bank terrorists, according to the IDF’s latest assessments of the ongoing power struggle between Hamas and Fatah.

The weapons are mostly held in private homes or hidden in caches throughout Judea and Samaria.

According to the latest assessment, and contrary to earlier predictions, defense officials told The Jerusalem Post this week that Hamas was just as strong as Fatah in the West Bank and could pose a genuine threat to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s security forces.

On Monday, the London-based Al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper reported that Fatah security forces had recently thwarted an attempted coup in the PA by Hamas.

Hamas had tried establishing a military force in the West Bank similar to its Executive Force in the Gaza Strip, which then planned to attack PA institutions and take over the government, according to the report. “They have weapons and explosives and, more importantly, they are highly motivated,” a senior defense official said.

According to the official, Hamas is currently in a “waiting period” and is trying to unite some of its splinter groups spread throughout the various West Bank cities, with terrorist hubs in the northern Samaria cities of Nablus and Jenin.

Earlier this year, the IDF foiled plans by Hamas to create a military force in the West Bank like the Executive Force that took over the Gaza Strip from Fatah in June.

According to a high-ranking IDF officer, Hamas tried uniting all of its factions across the West Bank but failed due to IDF preemptive action.

Since then, Hamas has focused on infiltrating its men into the ranks of PA security branches – the Palestinian Police and the National Security Force.

While Fatah is currently better organized and is in control of the official PA security forces in the West Bank, the Israeli defense establishment is concerned that when Hamas launches its coup attempt, Fatah force will collapse just like they did in Gaza.

There, Fatah had four times the men Hamas did, a defense official said.

For this reason, senior officials in the defense establishment have voiced opposition to a plan recently raised by the US security coordinator to the region Lt.-Gen. Keith Dayton according to which Abbas needs an additional five battalions in the West Bank to counter the growing Hamas threat.

“It is not about manpower,” the official said, “but about motivating the Fatah forces to want to fight and defend the PA.”

The IDF Central Command believes that Abbas’s time is running out and that in the coming months Hamas will try to topple his government in the West Bank and attempt to take over the PA security branches and institutions. Last week, PA Prime Minister Salaam Fayad announced that his government had closed down 103 welfare and charitable institutions connected to Hamas in an effort to impair the Islamist group’s financial capabilities.

The IDF has decided to take a number of steps to assist Abbas in motivating his men to fight if and when Hamas attempts its takeover.

According to defense officials, quality of life in the West Bank is an important factor in motivating PA security forces. As a result, the Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria is working on a number of ways to ease travel restrictions for PA security personnel.

Ahead of the upcoming hajj, which begins in mid-December, the civil administration is also examining ways to ease restrictions on Palestinians in general who want to travel abroad.

“The security forces need to feel that they have a reason to fight,” a defense official said. “They need to feel like they have a better life to look forward to. Otherwise, they will not pose a challenge to Hamas.”
