I have received several queries asking me – Will Israel try to wipe out Iran’s nuclear site before Iran gets a nuclear bomb? Now I know how the king of Syria felt when he was asked to do what only God could do.

II Kings 5:6,7 – And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy. Only God knows the answer to the query: Will Israel try to wipe out Iran’s nuclear sites WITH nuclear weapons before Iran gets a nuclear bomb?

I will give you my circumstantial guess answer as follows: NO!

Will Israel try to wipe out Iran’s nuclear sites with CONVENTIONAL weapons before Iran gets a nuclear bomb? My circumstantial guesses:

(1) If Benjamin Netanyahu should become Prime Minister – Probably!

(2) If Prime Minister Ehud Olmert remains in office – Probably not!

Yaakov Katz, an excellent journalist, has an outstanding analysis of the pros and cons Israel faces in “to launch or not to launch,” from which I will draw in this and future BLOGS. It appears in the Jerusalem Post, and is titled “Decision Time.”

If Israel had tactical nukes, would it use them against Iran?

By Yaakov Katz, THE JERUSALEM POST

January 8, 2007

A nuclear weapon has not been used since 1945, when the US Armed Forces dropped two such bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. Now, according to London’s Sunday Times, Israel is preparing for its own Hiroshima and has drawn up plans to not only introduce the weapon of mass destruction into the Middle East but even use it against Iran.

The newspaper report, improbable as it might sound, should not be immediately dismissed.

While Israel is publicly rooting for diplomatic efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear program, there is no doubt that the IDF – and particularly the Air Force – are preparing for the possibility that Israel might decide to launch a military strike against the Islamic Republic’ s nuclear facilitie

But would Israel use tactical nuclear weapons – if it had them – to do so? According to foreign reports, Israel has a large arsenal of nuclear weapons and according to the Sunday Times report, has been training with low-yield warheads that are just large enough to cause the necessary destruction at Iran’s nuclear facilities, but also just small enough to contain the blast and prevent major collateral damage and fallout.

While it would be difficult to completely destroy all of Iran’s several dozen nuclear facilities, senior officials and IAF officers believe that a successful strike on a number of key elements of the nuclear program – such as the uranium enrichment center in Natanz, the heavy water facility at Arak and the Isfahan nuclear technology center – would be enough to stop the country’s race for nuclear power.

doxycycline cat

Assuming strikes on these facilities would suffice in at least temporarily stopping Iran’s atomic race, there are still many hurdles along the way, some of which could potentially be passed by using tactical nuclear weapons.

The Sunday Times report is not the first to raise the “tactical nuclear” possibility. Last April, Seymour M. Hersh wrote in the New Yorker magazine that the United States was considering using bunker-buster bombs tipped with nuclear warheads to strike at Iran’s nuclear facilities.

If Israel decided to attack Iran, in addition to the difficulty in flying directly to the country and neutralizing its air defenses, the IAF would also have to succeed in penetrating bunkers at the nuclear facilities – some known to be dozens of feet below ground and reinforced by concrete and steel.

According to Israeli officials, while an air strike on Iran could be successful, the IAF would need exact intelligence on each target and on the type of bunker, its depth, and what type of reinforcements it featured.

add comment effects levitra side

Those pieces of information are crucial for choosing the type and number of bombs the IAF would need to drop.

This is where tactical nuclear weapons could conceivably come in.

While bunker buster bombs would still be needed, the powerful blast of a low-yield nuke could do the trick in further penetrating and destroying the underground facility. If Israel indeed has nuclear weapons and the ability to manufacture low-yield warheads, as the Sunday Times report claims, this option would definitely be under consideration.

how do antibiotics affect birth control pills

While the use of nuclear weapons might be tempting – due to their strength – there is a downside that could in the end tilt the scales in the direction of conventional weapons. While Israel is suspected of possessing nuclear weapons, the official Israeli policy has for years been not to be the first country in the Middle East to introduce nuclear weapons into the region. In addition, Israel would be reluctant to use a WMD that could set off a regional war.

If, however, Iran is Israel’s greatest existential threat ever, as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert claims it is, then even the hitherto unthinkable might be considered – even tactical nukes – when it comes to Israel’s survival.

Decision Time

BY YAAKOV KATZ, THE JERUSALEM POST

STATUS REPORT

Iran has built at least two dozen suspected nuclear facilities and, according to recent revelations, intends to produce fissile materials on two parallel tracks: the uranium track and the plutonium track.

Using the excuse of a plan to produce fuel for nuclear power plants, Iran is building uranium enrichment capabilities with gas centrifuges in Natanz.

According to latest assessments by Western intelligence sources, it has encountered “serious” obstacles on its way to crossing the nuclear threshold and obtaining independent research and development capabilities. These obstacles have pushed back predictions regarding the point when Iran would obtain these capabilities, with Western sources now claiming Iran will cross the technological threshold only in late 2007.

Despite the setbacks in the enrichment of uranium – a critical step in the development of a nuclear bomb – Ahmadinejad last month announced plans to build 60,000 additional centrifuges, leading Western sources to believe that it is only a matter of time before Iran overcomes the technological obstacles.

(Pakistan encountered similar difficulties in its nuclear program but eventually overcame them.)

Experts speculate that the enrichment difficulties Iran is encountering at its plant at Natanz could be behind its second track – the construction of a heavy-water production facility near the town of Arak to produce plutonium.

Israeli observers note that Iran is also building – in the same location – a “research reactor” which will probably be used for irradiating uranium and later separation of plutonium from the irradiated rods.

According to nuclear experts, Iran would need 3,000 working centrifuges to successfully enrich uranium, and Ahmadinejad has announced plans to immediately begin installing these centrifuges in defiance of last month’s UN Security Council decision to impose sanctions.

At the moment at Natanz, Iran has two working cascades – each consisting of 164 centrifuges – with which it claimed in April to have enriched uranium to 3.5 percent. For a bomb, uranium needs to be enriched to 90 percent or SQ, a nuclear technical term for Significant Quantity.

Once Iran completes the construction of the centrifuges and masters the technology, it will still take another year to reach SQ and then another two years to assemble a nuclear device, putting current assessments for when Iran will have a nuclear weapon at 2010.

Teheran initially had planned to activate 3,000 centrifuges by late 2006, but failed, and then increase this to 54,000. Iranian officials say that would produce enough enriched uranium to fuel a 1,000-megawatt reactor, such as that being built by Russia and nearing completion at Bushehr.

P2 centrifuges are second-generation and, according to nuclear experts, are “better and more effective” in enriching uranium.

As you know by now, my guesstimate for the time of an attack against Israel will occur on some day during the time period 2008 to 2012.

I suspect the events of 2007 may well determine how early or late it will occur in this time frame.

Quite frankly, when I first learned of the potential Iranian nuclear threat in the early nineties, there was little doubt in my mind that Israel would launch an air strike against their facilities while they were in the infant stage and, when our Web Site was in its infancy, I wrote BLOGS to that effect, believing it was just a matter of time until they launched air strikes. But two allied force operations against Saddam’s Iraq kept Israel under America’s thumb, because we did not want them to get involved in attacks against Islamic Middle East nations, fearing it would complicate the situation, which it would have done.

Operation Desert Storm – On August 8, 1990, Iraq annexed Kuwait, and the next day the UN declared the annexation invalid. On August 25 military interdiction was authorized by the UN. From that day forward the U.S. began to seek nations to join them in a coalition to invade Iraq. For this reason Israel was asked to stay out of it, because many nations would not even consider joining if Israel was involved.

Operation Iraqi Freedom began on May 20, 2003 and is still continuing. And the U.S. has not, and does not, want Israel involved in it.

800 bactrim ds tablet

Because of these two operations, the situations that existed between them, and its own internal terrorist and political problems, the Israelis did not launch air strikes against Iran during the infancy of its nuclear program.

875 amoxil mg

Now it faces a completely different ball game! Iran has its most important nuclear components deep under ground, scattered across the regions of its vast territory, and has imported high tech Russian anti-aircraft missiles to use against attacking aircraft. Israel now faces the possibility of only a partial success, which would leave the Iranians with bragging rights, to claim Israel is no longer in the Middle East driver’s seat. If Israeli aircraft were downed, their wreckage would be placed on stands and paraded around Iran on television as a symbol of their victory, as would be the remains of the pilots. The savagery of Islamic fanaticism cannot be exaggerated.

Decision Time

BY YAAKOV KATZ, THE JERUSALEM POST

January 4, 2007

It was exactly a year ago. A small Falcon jet – favored by top Iranian military officers – crashed in northwest Iran near the Turkish border.

adverse reaction bactrim

Among those killed were Brig.-Gen. Ahmad Kazemi, commander of the elite Revolutionary Guard ground forces division, and at least 12 other officers.

Rumors quickly spread that the plane had been sabotaged and that Kazemi had been killed in a devious Israeli plot.

blinklist com levitrai

While Iranian official statements blamed bad weather and dilapidated engines for the crash, there was room for speculation that foul play may have had a hand. Kazemi had been responsible for the production and development of Iran’s Shihab ballistic missile series, capable of delivering a nuclear warhead into the heart of Europe, not to mention Israel.

He was also a close confidant of Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Muhammad Najjar, from their days together in the Revolutionary Guard, where Najjar served as the head of the Middle East department, responsible for Israel and Lebanon.

Since last January’s crash, air travel for Iranian military officials has become increasingly dangerous. On November 27, a military transport plane crashed just after take-off from Teheran.

buy zithromax non-prescription

More than 40 people were killed including 30 members of the Revolutionary Guard, some of them reported to be close advisers to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. A week before, a helicopter crashed into the central town of Najafabad, killing six, including a senior Revolutionary Guard officer.

The combined effect of these crashes, some Iranian analysts claim, has effectively gutted the high command

diflucan cost

of the Revolutionary Guard. But whatever the truth concerning the cause of these mysterious crashes, they show that numerous stumbling blocks confront Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear-tipped missiles capable of reaching Israel.

International pressure – in the form of UN-approved sanctions such as those imposed last month – as well as internal strife and recent technological challenges all serve as obstacles the Islamic Republic has had to face throughout its 20-year effort to obtain nuclear weapons.

Within the Israeli leadership, there is one clear voice – Prime Minister Ehud Olmert – that refuses to come to terms with a nuclear Iran and claims that Teheran must be stopped, even at a heavy price, from obtaining weapons of mass destruction and rocking the balance of power in the Middle East.

Currently nine countries are known to have or are suspected of having nuclear weapons: the US, France, the UK, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel. Adding Iran to the mix will not only constitute an existential threat to Israel, but will also impair its operational independence.

“What if a soldier is kidnapped in Lebanon and we want to go to war?” asks one senior official. “All Iran would need to do is wave its nuke at us and make us reconsider.”

Israel currently has invested most of its intelligence-gathering resources into the Iranian issue. The Mossad holds the “Iran File” and the Foreign Ministry is spearheading diplomatic efforts.

There are additional, top-secret committees, whose members are appointed by the prime minister and include senior officials from the intelligence community and former politicians with a strategic background. These committees, one participant says, meet from time to time and are responsible for amalgamating all of the details gathered by the different security branches and brainstorming on strategy.

At the end of the day, however, as one former IAF commander involved in the successful strike on Iraq’s Osirak reactor in 1981 points out, it is solely up to the prime minister to decide what course of action Israel will take – military or diplomacy.

The way things look now, D-Day might not be too far away.

Fish farming in the desert may at first sound like an anomaly, but in Israel over the last decade a scientific hunch has turned into a bustling business.

Israeli scientists found that brackish water drilled from underground desert aquifers hundreds of feet deep could be used to raise warm-water fish. The geothermal water, less than one-tenth as saline as sea water, free of pollutants and a toasty 98 degrees on average, proved an ideal match. “We should consider arid land where subsurface water exists as land that has great opportunities,” said Professor Samuel Appelbaum, a fish biologist at the Jacob Blaustein Institute for Desert Research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, who pioneered the concept of desert aquaculture in Israel in the late 1980s.

Farmers use the water in which the fish are raised to irrigate their crops. The organic waste produced by the fish acts as fertilizer for the crops.

ARCHIVE PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 9

February, 2001

In our last update we revealed the fantastic amount of water God has stored deep under the Negev. It is in the Negev wilderness that between 1.6 and 1.9 million Jews will live during the last 3 and ½ years of the Tribulation Period. But what about food, could the Negev use this great surplus of water to produce enough food for this new population

Once Israel was able to tap into the billions of cubic feet of fossil waters under the Negev, she immediately began to put it to use in production of a variety of botanical products. It has caused the spread of hothouses, orchards, and fishponds from one end of the Negev to the other. The Negev now grows tomatoes, olives, and melons along with other types of vegetation. Pipelines from the fossil water sources, laid to fish farms, have generated some 15 fish farms in the Negev.

Some farms have ponds up to 75 feet in length, which can contain up to 20,000 fish.

The fish industry continues to grow and expand, as do all the Negev’s agricultural endeavors. Successful production of a crop of seedless, purple red grapes, will eventually lead to grape vines covering the barren Negev from Ramat Hanegev to Mitzpe Ramon. This botanical development can only accelerate, and within three years there will be enough foodstuffs produced to sustain an initial influx of up to 1.9 million Jews for a few months. The utilization of a part of this population explosion will dramatically increase food production by the end of their first year, and it will be sufficient to feed all the Negev residents for the rest of their stay. However, there will be a period of insufficient food, but this same God, who provided the water and technology for developing the Negev, will also cover this need by the “they” in verse 6 of Revelation, chapter 12: “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that THEY should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” I was taught as a young man that the “they” were angels. I certainly do not preclude this possibility, because God has used angels in the past for such situations. However, I believe I can prove from scripture what seems more reasonable, and will cover this in our next prophecy update.

ARCHIVE PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 5

February, 2001

Every nation has a war contingency plan. And, the smaller the country, the more imperative is the requirement for a detailed war contingency evacuation plan. Israel began to formulate, plan, and build her evacuation area in the early fifties. She chose the only reasonable zone, the Negev wilderness. The Negev comprises more than one-third of the total land area of Israel, beginning just north of Beersheba, and extending all

buy zithromax non-prescription

the way southward to the Gulf of Aqaba. Why was the Negev the only reasonable area? From the historical prospective, the majority of Israel’s major conquerors have come down from the north. Even Nebuchadnezzar, whose great empire began to the east of Israel in Babylonia, first went northwest through southern Syria to eventually attack Israel from the north. Once Israel had signed a peace treaty with Egypt, and then with Jordan, it became evident to her political and military leaders, that they had been correct in selecting the Negev. At present, it appears very unlikely that an attack will be made against Israel from any zone other than the Syria-Lebanon area. Some minister, no one knows who, during the early part of the last century, visited Petra in Jordan, and formed an erroneous opinion, which has become very popular among many teachers of prophecy. Whoever he was, his military training was sadly lacking, for he looked Petra over, and decided it would make a great defensive position for Israel to occupy, that is, if she ever had to flee her homeland. As a graduate of a military academy, and a retiree from the USAF-NSA, I can assure you, Petra is the worst possible place to evacuate the survivors of a successful Arab attack against Israel. I doubt if the one who first advanced this idea actually walked all the way through Petra’s narrow northern entrance and then continued to walk out on the vast open plain to the southwest. Petra may have been a great place to defend in biblical times with the weaponry of those days, but it would be impossible to defend today. But there are other compelling reasons why Israel would never flee to Petra. There are no natural water sources in that area, and water collection by its ingenious ancient inhabitants from desert thunderstorms was never able to support a population of more than 20,000. And food production in the soil horizons of this area could never support the evacuation of one-third of Israel’s population. It is also a certainty that the modern day occupants of Jordan would not offer to help Israel escape the Antichrist. But the belief that Israel will flee to Petra has become so popularized by many prominent ministers, it makes it very difficult to dissuade most followers of prophetic events. However, the fact that Israel has spent billions and billions of dollars turning the Negev into the most fortified zone on the earth, gives me the growing assurance that this is the place the woman Israel, who is described as going into the wilderness in the 12th Chapter of Revelation, will soon end up for the last three and one-half years of the tribulation period.

In the next prophetic update, Lord willing, I will discuss the military developments that turned the Negev into the best prepared evacuation zone in the world.

The water under the Negev was discovered quite a while ago. I wrote about it in my books, and you will find discussions about it our earliest Prophecy Updates, one of which follows the article from Arutz Sheva, dated November 30, 2006.

Arutz Sheva – IsraelNationalNews

Thursday, November 30, 2006 / 9 Kislev 5767

Former residents of the Gush Katif towns of Atzmona and Netzarim attended a ceremony Monday inaugurating the establishment of two new towns in the middle of the Negev desert they will now settle.

The new communities are located in the Halutza Sands, an area in the southwest Negev that is completely barren and uninhabited. Signs leading to the ceremony begin at the end of the highway running south along the Israeli side of the Gaza border, parallel to the infamous Philadelphi Corridor, through which weapons and explosives have been flowing since the Disengagement.

Bulldozers and other heavy equipment are on the move on all sides – flattening the ground and erecting electric lines. Infrastructure is being laid for the first of what will be four towns and two cities in the Halutza region. The former residents of Netzarim and Atzmona will be settling Halutzit A and Halutzit D.

A small elevated area rises above the flatlands. Below, 75 hothouses from Netzarim and Atzmona have been erected and are already filled to the brim with ripening potatoes and other organic produce. Residents live in small pre-fab “caravillas” (enlarged trailer homes), closer to civilization and travel to the site of their future communities to tend their crops.

Tents have been set up for the day. Two small ones filled with security people and metal detectors – part of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s security team – and a larger tent at the top of the hill, filled with people awaiting the prime minister’s arrival and the start of the ceremony.

In the background, a video plays on a loop. It begins with footage from the forced eviction of Gush Katif residents, going on to outline the vision of the Halutza Sands region of the Negev as a haven for tourism, wine-production, agriculture, solar power and futuristic cities.

New Partners

Eliyahu Uzan, the former secretary of the community of Netzarim, spoke in a somber manner, as though a mourner at a wedding. “We are partners in the building of this project, despite the fact that we do not come from the same Beit Midrash (house of study),” said Rosen. “But this government is our government, this state is our state – and its honor our own honor. We have chosen to bless the government and the land and hope the government and land will bless us. We made a decision that during these times – when the government, for whatever reasons, is refraining from building in other parts of the Land of Israel – we would take part in the building of this part of the land, which still is in need of being built.”

Our Song is One of Faith in This Nation

Rabbi Rafi Peretz, who heads the Atzmona mechina (pre-military academy), relocated to the nearby community of Yated following the Disengagement, spoke about the decision of the expelled residents to choose a path that is no easier than the one that brought them to Gaza.

“We awoke this morning to the renewal of a very ancient song,” Peretz said. “True, the decision to come here looked almost forced at the beginning. But we decided that our song is one of faith in this nation. Our song is one of settlement and Zionism. Our song is one of agriculture.

“I am not a farmer, but I deal with the planting of good soldiers firmly upon this land. I will tell you today what I told my students at the mechina over a year ago. ‘We are not exempt due to our experience. We are not able to stand on the sidelines. There is no sitting on the fence. This is our state. This is our land. This is our army, and with them we must prepare our forces.”

He recalled how two months after he was expelled from his home, then-PM Ariel Sharon invited him to a meeting at his office. “I told him how I felt in a similar manner. That we still wanted to build, to bring about a fixing of the situation. He stood up and said, “Go to Halutza.

I promise you that there we will build.” And we are here.

“We sense from you a similar spirit,” Peretz said, addressing members of the local municipality. “In that spirit, we have come to Halutza.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert then took the podium.

Hours earlier, at the memorial for David Ben-Gurion, Olmert insisted that Israel would continue to carry out withdrawals, this time in Judea and Samaria.

The future of the nation of Israel lies in the Negev,” he told those gathered in Halutzit. “I cannot say that we didn’t come from the same Beit Midrash,” he said, gesturing toward the expellees in the crowd. “My story is a bit more complicated, but it can certainly be said that I didn’t come from the same Beit Midrash as Ben Gurion.

“When Ben-Gurion had his dream he didn’t know that in 2006 Israel would the world’s leader in advanced water technology, that organic farming would flourish here, and be a basis for export worth millions of dollars a year – and all with Avoda Ivrit (Jewish labor), by the way.

Olmert made a surprise announcement, instructing his office director to begin preparations for the construction of a highway from Be’er Sheva to the Halutza region, and to make every effort to cut through the bureaucracy and accelerate the process. “The connection of this region to the metropolis of the south will make all the difference.”

Olmert praised the residents for their fortitude and promised full government backing – something those residents have not experienced in decades. “The bottomless wellspring of excitement and energy moves this public forward even where there are deep feelings of pain, hatred and competition…You are really involved in the fulfillment of the Zionist future. You will receive support and solid assistance from the State of Israel.”

The prime minister, on the second day of a seemingly unilateral cease-fire and just moments before two more rockets struck the city of Sderot, said that the founding of Halutzit should signal to the nation that the government was not all about retreat and destruction. “The second part of the Disengagement is building.

The exit from Gaza was not a retreat from the Land of Israel, but the building of the Negev. This is the great consensus point of meeting, where ours and the vision of Ben-Gurion meet.”

Many of the residents of Atzmona were originally evicted from the Sinai, following a treaty signed by Menachem Begin. They remember settling in Gaza thinking that Atzmona was their final stop.

One of the exhausted-looking expelled residents said to his friend as he left the tent, overlooking the vast expanse of sand and nothingness: “Was there really such a shortage of folks crazy enough to come live in the desert that they had to do the whole Disengagement just to get us out here? Yallah, let’ s get it over with.

PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 8

February, 2001

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. (See Archive Prophecy Update Numbers 5 and 6).

Zechariah 13:8,9 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. [9] And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

In Prophecy Update Number 7 we ended it by stating: “But if 1.6 to 2 million Jews are to survive in the Negev, they must have enough water and food to sustain them for 3 and ½ prophetic years. Has God already been instrumental in assuring they will have it? More on this in Prophecy Update Number 8!” The answer is certainly a resounding YES, and in this update we will deal with the question of sufficient water. I first became aware of what God has done under the Negev wilderness in the late seventies. I already knew there were many shallow pockets of water that supplied the springs of the Negev, and that these pockets were reinforced by short bursts of desert thunderstorms from time to time. And I also knew this hydrological cycle could not possibly sustain a population of as many as 2 million future occupants.

But God has already taken care of this problem in the distant past.

In ancient times, when rainfall was abundant in the Negev and Sinai, God built up a vast reservoir of water deep beneath the hard rock layers of the Negev. There are billions of cubic feet of water stored under the Negev. However, a serious problem existed when it was first discovered. The water was 1300 to 2000 feet under the Negev, and this consisted of very hard rock layers. The technology of man, in the seventies, had not yet reached the level of capability to consistently drill a large number of wells to this depth. However, God informed Daniel, in Chapter 12, Verse 4, that something would happen in the end times which would increase man’s technological capabilities: “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Now we have the technological knowledge to recover this vast underground supply of water.

At first, it was feared the water might have a high salt content, such that it would not be usable. But we were surprised to discover its salt content was only one-tenth of that of the open oceans and seas of the world. It can very easily be converted to drinkable water. It was also a pleasant surprise to Israel to discover it could be directly applied to botanical growth without any harmful resultant. In fact, in many cases, it produces a higher quality of fruits and vegetables if left untreated from its recovery state. God has placed enough water under the Negev to more than support the remnant of Israel for more than 3 and ½ prophetic years. But what about food for almost 2 million Jews? More on this in Prophecy Update Number 9!
