Latest Flap over Declassification of the National Intelligence

Since I was once a part of the NSA, it was only natural that I would receive questions about the latest Republican-Democratic flap in our Nation’s capital. So, rather than answer each question individually, I am issuing this blog to answer them all at one time. First of all, what is the National Intelligence Estimate? Please consider the following three descriptions concerning its preparation, contents, uses, and importance.

(1) The National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), is prepared by or at the direction of the National Intelligence Council

It is defined by the Department of Defense as a “strategic estimate of the capabilities, vulnerabilities, and probable courses of action of foreign nations produced at

the national level as a composite of the views of the intelligence community. Also called NIE.”

(2) According to the National Strategic Intelligence Act, 1994

The National Intelligence Estimate “means the product of the process of considering and weighing the possibilities, probabilities and facts disclosed by national security intelligence with regard to any situation, and of drawing conclusions from such possibilities, probabilities and facts.”

(3) The CIA says:

A “National Intelligence Estimate (NIE)” is the most authoritative written judgment concerning a national security issue prepared by

the Director of Central Intelligence. Unlike ‘current intelligence’ products, which describe the present, most NIEs forecast future developments and many address their implications for the United States. NIEs cover a wide range of issue–from military to technological to economic to political trends.

–up to and including the President.

They are often dr

afted in response to a specific request from a policymaker. Estimates are designed not just to provide information but

to help policymakers think through issues. They are prepared by CIA with the participation of other agencies of the Intelligence Community and are coordinated with these agencies. When there are alternative views about a subject within the Intelligence Community, the NIEs include such views.”

Now, having covered the three major aspects of the NIE, let me give you my personal, repeat, personal, opinion, repeat opinion of the NIE now being waved aloft by both Republicans and Democrats.

The current format of the NIE had its birth during the first term of President Clinton, but there were consolidated estimates of the national intelligence effectiveness in place long before his administration under different names. These reports were available to high level officials in the administration and to certain congressional committies that needed to be briefed on them.

But access to the reports were very limited, and leaks were virtually unheard of – such was the case when I retired from NSA (USAF) IN 1971. Only the highest officials in the CIA, DIA, FBI, NSA, had access to them, and the rest of the peons, like myself, only had access on a need-to-know-basis.

Now, as to my opinion. When access to internal intelligence estimates of cause and effect were extremely limited they were not politically biased, but pretty well laid out the situation as it was, not as would benefit any political party.

However, as both the administration and congress were more and more aware that this information could be used to swing close elections in favor of their party, pressure began to be applied to get the NIE to reflect an analysis estimate that was favorable to keep them in, or to get them in, control of the presidency or congress. Now, as to my advice, don’t blame either party, and vote your conscience. Why? There is enough blame on both sides to whitewash a Virginia coal mind!

I would say this country is rapidly approaching the state of government that existed in Israel before she was ovrrrun and carried to Babylon, as Jeremiah describes in 5:28-31.

Feel Good Cease Fires and Islamic Hudnas Produce Future Middle East Wars!

The following article by Thomas Sowell, which came from the Jewish World Review, is the best straight forward, historically accurate, and understandable analysis of perhaps the biggest problem in the Middle East, namely, that most Americans do not understand premature cease fires create future wars, not peace. Quick fix, pressure relieving, cease fires are merely leading down a trail to a final world show down where their will be no cease fire, no terrorist hudna, but a fight-to-the-finish in the Middle East. The United States and the other world powers have, in each of the many conflicts between Israel

and the Arabs, called Israel off before they were able to win a decisive victory by conquering Cairo, Amman, Hizbollah, or Damascus, and the cease-fires have kept its Arab enemies in the ball-game for a last-minute, game-saving field goal.

Will Cease-Fires Never Cease?

How many cease-fires have there been in the Middle East — or is the number too large to remember? Over the past half century, there must have been more cease-fires in the Middle East than in the rest of the world combined.

What will this latest cease-fire do? It will give Hezbollah a breather from Israeli retaliation and allow them time to get new shipments of military equipment from Iran, rebuild their military infrastructure and prepare for the next round of attacks on Israel.

Why do these phony cease-fire scenarios keep getting repeated? Because there are too many people, including many in the media, who take the corrupt windbags at the U.N. seriously — so our political leaders have to act as if they take the U.N. seriously as well.

This is a costly charade. Among its costs are human lives. U.N. cease-fires are the ultimate in feel-good decisions made by people who pay no price for the repercussions.

No one in his right mind believes that either the Lebanese army or the U.N. “peacekeepers” will disarm Hezbollah. The track record of both is virtually a guarantee that Hezbollah will be able to resume war against Israel at whatever time and place it chooses.

Most people have no idea how small Israel is — and therefore how vulnerable every part of it is to its surrounding enemies.

New Hampshire is considered to be a small state but it is larger than Israel. So are 45 other states. Lake Erie is larger than Israel and Lake Michigan more than twice as large.

The Middle Eastern places we hear about are very close to one another. From Israel’s capital in Jerusalem to Bethlehem in the Palestinian territory is only a fraction of the distance from Washington to Baltimore.

Most people are as uninformed about the history of the Middle East as they are about its geography. Supposedly Jews took over the Palestinians’ homeland in order to create the state of Israel.

But there was no Palestinian homeland. That whole region belonged to the Ottoman Empire until the Ottoman Empire was dismembered after its defeat in the First World War.

Christians, Jews, and Muslims had all lived in Palestine for centuries. In the course of carving up the Ottoman Empire to create new nations, the British set aside a small part of it for Jews — and after violent objections from the Arabs, stalled for years on letting this bit of land become an independent nation.

Jews lived in Palestine long before there was a state of Israel and even before there was an Ottoman Empire. In 1939, Winston Churchill commented that Jews in Palestine “made the desert bloom.” The resulting prosperity of the area attracted both more Jews and more Arabs, including some Arabs whose descendants would later claim that Jews took over their country.

After World War II and the Holocaust, Jews seeking refuge turned to their promised home in the Middle East

and battled the British to seize control and proclaim the independence of Israel.

In the face of polarizing hostility and violence in surrounding Arab countries, Jews fled these countries and many were absorbed into Israel. Meanwhile, Arab countries urged Arabs living in Israel to leave before these countries’ planned attacks with the aim of destroying the new state.

It was the Arabs, rather than the Israelis, who created a massive Palestinian refugee problem. While Jewish refugees were absorbed into the general population of Israel, Palestinians in Arab countries were kept in refugee camps for generations — promised a right to return after Israel was conquered and the Jews displaced.

After the most complete failure of the many Arab efforts to annihilate Israel in 1967, the Israelis took over lands of strategic value, such as the Golan Heights, in order to prevent them from being used in future military attacks.

In all the years when these lands had been in the hands of Arab states, no one made them a Palestinian homeland. But now it has become a fervent cause to force Israel to create a Palestinian state that the Arabs never created.

None of this matters to those consumed by hate in the Middle East or those in the West wanting feel-good cease-fires, without bothering to think through the actual consequences.

The Effect of the Withdrawal of American Forces on the Middle East!

The withdrawal of American forces from Iraq is coming. The political pressure on the candidates of the two major parties is such that I am confident a time table of withdrawal will have been establ

ished prior to the end of 2008.

It is becoming impossible to keep the in-country ethnic groups away from each others throats, and the Turks and Iranians have a great desire to take over the northern oil fields of the Kurds as well as to clear an unblocked zone for troop movements and weapons transport into Syria and Lebanon for a Jihad against Israel.

The withdrawal of American forces from Iraq will leave the door wide open for a Jihad to be launched against Israel from the north by ten Arab nations. There will be no Jihad against Israel as long as American troops are in Iraq, but there will be as soon as they pull out.

The Iraqi democratic government will fall apart in short order, and logistics for the transport of military equipment for the Jihad will then flow freely from Iran across Iraq and Syria to Hizbullah in southern Lebanon. The southern borders of both Lebanon and Syria will be full of equipment and manpower for a lightening Jihad strike against Israel.

U.S. logistics, involved in getting a sufficiently strong American force back in place in the Middle East in time to stop the Arab nations from driving Israel into the Negev, are such that we are talking about several months, and I believe it will take Islam less than a month to push the Israelis south of Beersheba. The Israelis have soundly defeated Egypt, Syria, and Jordan in every war they have fought, which has given them a great confidence to believe they can do the same over and over again.

The United States, Israel’s staunchest ally, has this same confidence in the Israeli IDF and IAF.

This confidence is going to be the undoing of Israel.

The United States politicians and its population will be rejoicing that our troops are finally back safe at home, and will have no desire or will to send them back into the Middle East. They will believe Israel can handle it, and by the time they realize they cannot, Israel will be in the Negev, and a truce will be worked out in the United Nations, just as it was in the 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973 wars in which Israel was involved – But this time it will be Israel who loses the war.

Once Israel is in the Negev, the Arab forces will be delighted to have a truce. They will have the best part of Israel in their possession.

The Bible describes Israel as “the land from Dan to Beersheba,” and that is exactly what the forces of Islam want to conquer.

War – Is it coming in the Ancient Territory of the Assyrian Empire

At the time the Prophets Isaiah and Micah wrote their Old Testament books, the Assyrian Empire was enclosed by a line from modern day Adama, Turkey to T’bilisi, Georgia to Baku, Azerbaijan, along the southern coastline of the Caspian Sea to Mashhad, Iran to Bosra, Kuwait to Tel Aviv, Israel to Adama, Turkey. I have always believed the antichrist would come from within this area and, as such, was called “The Assyrian” by Micah in Chapter 5. I have chosen Syria as the most likely place within the enclosed area that would be the zone of his first appearance, but realize he could come from anywhere inside it to fulfill the prophecy of Micah. Micah 5:4-7 – And HE shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall HE be great unto the ends of the earth. [5] And THIS MAN shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. [6] And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall HE deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

[7] And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

While I do not believe the war described in the DEBKAfile will break out before 2008, I admit it could, and I do expect it to begin before 2012 ends.

Iran and Turkey Prepare for War in Iraqi

Kurdistan

A new Middle East war is in the offing. DEBKAfile’s exclusive military sources in Iraq and sources in Iran reveal that Turkish and Iranian air units as well

as armored, paratroop, special operations and artillery forces are poised for an imminent coordinated invasion of the northern Iraqi autonomous province of Kurdistan.

Our sources pinpoint the target of the combined Iranian-Turkish offensive as the Quandil Mountains (see picture), where some 5,000 Kurdish rebels from Turkey and Iran, members of the PKK and PJAK respectively, are holed up. Iranian and Turkish assault troops are already deployed 7-8 km deep inside Iraqi territory.

Turkey to the northwest and Iran to the east both have Kurdish minorities which have been radicalized by the emergence of Iraqi Kurdistan in the last three years. The three contiguous Kurdish regions form a strategic world hub.

A jittery Washington foresees a Kurdish-Iranian military thrust quickly flaring into a comprehensive conflict and igniting flames that would envelop the whole of Iraqi Kurdistan as well as southern Turkey and Armenia.

Tehran is quite capable of using the opening for its expeditionary force to grab extensive parts of Kurdistan and strike a strategic foothold in northern Iraq.

Informed US officials would not be surprised if Turkey took the chance of seizing northern Iraqi oil fields centered on the oil-rich town of Kirkuk, the source of 40 percent of Iraq’s oil output.

When he met US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice in New York Thursday, Sept. 21, Turkish foreign minister Abdullah Gul said: “When we talk about Kirkuk, everybody supposes we want to bring the Kurdish-Turkish issue to the foreground. However, we instead see the uncertainty there as a general issue of Iraq. We are concerned that instability and turmoil in Kirkuk could cause more troubles in Iraq.”

Referring to the recently appointed special US coordinator Gen. Joseph Ralston, Gul expressed his hope that a resolution would be imminent.

The threat was implicit and impatient. Washington was given to infer that Ankara is on the point of deciding whether or not to capture Kirkuk, a step that would undermine a pivotal political and economic base of the Baghdad government and harm US interests in Iraq.

This conversation, which was not nearly as amicable as it looked from the press photos, was clouded by a disturbing incident: A semi-official American military publication recently ran a new map showing parts of Turkish and Armenian territory marked “Kurdistan.”

This map fueled suspicions in Ankara and the Armenian capital Yerevan that the US high military command was in on a plan for Iraqi Kurdish forces led by President Jalal Talabani and Masoud Barzani to help themselves to territory in Turkey and Armenia in a counter-attack to a potential Turkish-Iranian military move in Kurdistan.

This kind of mistrust has lent wings to Ankara’s resolve to go forward against Kurdistan – the sooner the better.

To cool tempers and restrain the Turks, the US ambassador to Turkey, Ross Wilson, stood up in Ankara on Sept 19 and promised: “Northern Iraq won’t serve as a PKK base in the future.” In a speech at a meeting entitled “Agenda 2006,” Wilson stated that the map published in an unofficial U.S. military magazine showing parts of Turkish and Armenian territory under the domination of a republic called “Kurdistan” doesn’t reflect the official policy of the US.

The ambassador added that the recently stepped-up PKK violent attacks in Turkey “would not be tolerated anymore.”

These words were hardly likely to allay Ankara’s fears, since the ambassador addressed the PKK problem in the future tense, while the Turkish government is troubled by the present.

The approaching conflict, according to DEBKAfile’s military sources, has an Israeli dimension.

Since July, Turkish leaders have been impressing on the Bush administration that they have the right to attack Kurdish rebels who mount terrorist attacks in Turkey and take refuge across the border in Iraq’s Quandil Mountains – no less than the Israelis, who with US back ing struck back at the Hizballah

in Lebanon for its cross-border attacks into northern Israel.

Tehran is not bothering to justify its forthcoming operation in Kurdistan. DEBKAfile’s sources in Tehran report that Iran’s rulers are determined to go in without further ado and crush the Kurdish insurgents carrying out hit-and-run attacks in Iran in recent months.

Vital American and Israeli regional security interests in the Middle East are affected by three additional aspects of the potential anti-Kurdish flare-up.

1. Washington is not convinced by Ankara’s protestations of the absence of Turkish-Iranian military complicity. Turkey and Iran happen to find themselves in the same boat at the same time as targets of terrorists, say the Turks, and both have no choice but to use force to stamp out the violence. But for the Americans, the timing could not be more unfortunate. A possible US (and Israeli) plan to attack Iran’s nuclear installations at this time would be seriously hampered by the closure of Turkish and Kurdish air space to American and Israeli warplanes heading for Iran.

The war plot thickened further this week.

Friday, Sept. 22, while Hizballah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah harangued a million Lebanese spectators in Beirut, Iran’s ambassador to Turkey, Firouz Dolatabadi, spoke in Ankara in ominous tones. He said: “Iran, Turkey and Iraq are key points in the world’s geopolitics. Whoever dominates this region can control the whole world.”

Regarding relations between Iran and Turkey, ambassador Dolatabadi said: “History has it that whenever Iran and the Ottoman Emperor had good relations, we would witness good developments in the region.”

Good for whom? asked worried officials in Washington.

2. An Iranian-Turkish victory in a Kurdish campaign would award Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps its second victory in less than two months. The RG officers who commanded Hizballah forces in the Lebanon war of July and August claim full credit for its gains. They thwarted a key objective of the Israeli assault which was to cut Iran’s assets down to size in Lebanon and the western Middle East at large, and have left Iran’s military grip on the region firmer than ever.

3. Israel is concerned lest military action against Turkish PKK rebels uproot its military and economic presence in Iraqi Kurdistan. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that since 2004 Israeli military instructors and intelligence officer have been helping the Kurds build up their peshmerga army and anti-terrorist forces.

Iran and Turkey are convinced that Israel also maintains in north Iraqi Kurdistan observation and early warning posts to forewarn the Jewish state of a coming Iranian attack. If this is so, the two invaders will make a point of destroying such posts. Israel would then forfeit a key intelligence facility against the Islamic Republic.

Regarding Israel’s oft-reported, never officially-admitted, connection with Kurdistan, the BBC’s Newsnight program of Sept 20 claimed to have obtained the first pictures of Kurdish soldiers trained by Israelis in N.

Iraq, as well as an interview with an unnamed former trainer.

DEBKAfile’s sources conjecture that the photos were leaked by two sources:

One, Turkish officials concerned to drum up a justifiable “context” for their coming offensive by smearing the Talabani-Barzani leadership as disloyal to Baghdad.

The Kurdish authorities have denied allowing any Israelis into northern Iraq. The purported Israeli trainer told the BBC interviewer that his team was told they would be disowned if discovered.

Two, Turkish or European elements who are anxious to abort an American or Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear industry by exposing Kurdish installations that might serve to expand Israel’s strategic options against Iran. The BBC producers suggested that refueling stops at the Irbil (Hawler) airport in Kurdistan would help the Israel air force overcome the problem of distance to an air strike against Iran.

The British program quoted the trainer as describing the courses given to Kurdish airport security people and army as diverse special operations forces’ anti-terrorism tactics and weapons. DEBKAfile adds that before Abu Musab al Zarqawi was taken out by American forces, his men sought high and low for Israeli instructors to abduct as hostages, but never found them.

The Bush administration recently appointed former NATO commander Gen. Joseph Ralston as special US coordinator in Ankara for the PKK issue in the hope of de-escalating the crisis caused by PKK attacks and delaying Ankara’s war operation against Iraqi Kurdistan. In the second week of September, he held a round of conferences with Turkish political and military leaders. His essential argument was that military action is the last option. But he made little headway. Many Turkish officials found the Ralston initiative too late to hold back the inevitable clash for a number of reasons.

They believe the delay he urged would play into the hands of the Kurdish rebels and give them time to consolidate their preparations to fight off an offensive.

Turkish intelligence reports that Talabani and Barzani are less busy with Iraqi affairs than with transferring large quantities of anti-tank and anti-air rockets to the anti-Turkish PKK and the anti-Iranian PJAK in their hideouts.

Ankara is keen, furthermore, to get in its blow against Kurdistan before an American action against Iran. The Turks buy Russian and Iranian intelligence evaluations according which the US attack may take place at any time between the last week of September and the end of December, 2006. So they feel the ground is burning under their feet.

Iran, for its part, is waiting for Turkey to make the first move in Iraqi Kurdistan. Its troops will go into action only after the first Turkish soldier and tank are on the move.

Kurds in the Whey Making Cheese

In Prophecy Updates Numbers 62,63,64,65,66,67,68, and 69, I made my case to prove that the man we identify as the antichrist is the “Assyrian” of Micah and, as such, he will be an Assyrian. Since the Assyrian empire, at the time of Micah’s writings, stretched across all of what is known today as Syria, I have always said the Antichrist would come out of Syria. But at the same time I have always kept a close eye on Kurdistan, which was the original space occupied by Assyria before it began its great conquests. I have been acutely aware that the place of Assyria’s origin would make the “best fit” for the place of the Antichrist’s rise. I still keep a very close eye on developments in that area, and the post war selection of a ruler in the country of Kurdistan. The Turks, Allied forces, and Kurds are all going to be involved in this situation during,

and after, the conflict.

Most Kurds today are settled Muslim farmers. Kurds have struggled against various rulers for an independent Kurdistan ever since the fall of the Assyrian empire. The last struggle was against Iraqi troops in the 1970’s. With the defeat of Iraq in the Gulf War (1991) the Kurds again took up arms against Iraqi authority. But lacking adequate military equipment, they were subdued, and then massacred by the Iraqi military. Fearing annihilation, they fled their homes for the borders of Turkey and Iran. This mass migration caused incredible suffering and thousands of deaths, and forced the U.S. to establish refugee camps in northern Iraq.

Saddam Hussein compared himself with the great Nebuchadnezzer of the Babylonian empire, and with Saladin the Kurdish warrior who fought against the Crusaders. Saladin united the Shiite and Sunnite Muslims in 1171 and thus became the Sultan of Egypt and Syria. In 1187 he led the capture of Jerusalem

from the Christian Crusaders. This is precisely what Saddam Hussein had wanted, and planned, to do. The interplay between Turkey, who hates the Kurds and does not want them to be an independent state, and the United States, will be very interesting to watch in the next government of Iraq. Saladin is the great hero of the Kurds. The home of the Kurdish Democratic Party is Sala-aha-din in Kurdistan.

I have always believed a lightning Jihad attack by 10 nations, made up primarily of Sunnite and Shiite Muslims, would end the false peace that eventually must come between Israel and the Palestinians. And I have also constantly maintained that the person leading them must be of an Assyrian background. That is why I will be watching developments in a post Saddam land division in northern Iraq, where Asshur, in Genesis 10:11, came up out of the land of Nimrod (Today’s Iraq), to establish what became known as Assyria, with its capital of Ninevah.

Genesis 10:11 – Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

Micah 5:5,6 – And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. Saladin the Kurd was able to unite the Sunnites and Shiites into a Holy War (Jihad) against the accursed Christian Crusaders, and eventually drive them out of Jerusalem. The cry of Osama Bin Laden & Saddam, along with the Muslim clerics and other Islamic leaders, has been one of comparing us with the crusaders, while crying out for a uniting of all its religious Islamic factions to join and defeat the crusader big devil (U.S.) by driving the little devil (Israel) out of Jerusalem. On the surface the post war Islamic nations may put forth a false face of gratitude for the end of the Saddam era, but the subsurface hate of the general Arabic public will only increase and, sooner or later, a man will arise who can unite them by that hate behind closed doors – to formulate a false peace plan of deceit that will lull Israel and the western world into a false sense of security. The Bible indicates that man will be “the Assyrian.” He will arise within the bounds of the land occupied by Assyria at the time of Micah’s writings. I am watching all the land occupied by Assyria at its maximum extension. This means the antichrist could arise in northern Iraq, extreme southeastern Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, or Kurdistan, which is in northern Iraq. My guess is Syria or Kurdistan. Leaders that arise in these countries in the post Saddam era will be worth watching. Watch for a leader who can both please, and appease, the Sunnites, Shiites, and Kurds.

The willful king of Daniel 11:36 is considered by many to be the person known as antichrist and, if so, the last phrase in verse 39 could prove to be very interesting in the post Saddam era.

Daniel 11:36 – And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

Daniel 11:39 – Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, AND SHALL DIVIDE THE LAND FOR GAIN.

Saladin reigned as the Sultan from Syria to Egypt. It appears the man we call antichrist will do the same.

This latest round of baloney coming down the pike out of the Hamas – Fatah maze of confusion called a government, is the biggest pile of manure I have witnessed in a long time.

It has only one object – to get the quartet welfare payments for its people started again so they will be free to get on with their plans to destroy Israel. But the thing that has shocked me more that anything else, is our State Department shifting from one quartet position to another and back again, then off again, on again, gone again, Finnigan. The position of firm support for Israel is eroding in the United States along ethnic and religious lines. I am afraid all of our political cries of great future support for Israel will turn out to be more rhetoric than reality.

The following article from DEBKAfile leaves no doubt that the only kind of peace that can ever come to Israel is a false peace that suddenly ends in great travail for

Israel. Israel is looking for a time of “peace and safety,” but Hamas is looking for a five-year “hudna” (ceasefire) to get ready to give great travail to Israel.

DEBKAfile: Abu Mazen cannot deliver on his solemn pledge to the UN that his planned unity government will recognize Israel

This pledge is hollow given the terms of his secret deal with Hamas PM Ismail Haniyeh, which are revealed here for the first time. Even that accord was vetoed by Hamas’s hard-line leader Khaled Meshaal from his base in Damascus. And, early Friday, a Hamas official in Gaza said his movement would never recognize Israel.

Yet Abbas appealed movingly to the world body Thursday night, Sept 21: “Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand.”

These are the terms of the secret Abbas-Haniyeh accord for a Hamas-Fatah unity government, according to DEBKAfile’s exclusive intelligence sources: Mashaal is appointed deputy chairman of the PLO, the world Palestinian umbrella, which makes him PM Haniyeh’s superior. The PLO under the rule of the Abbas-Meshaal duo will be responsible for the Palestinian Authority’s security and foreign affairs. The Haniyeh government will be left with economy, transportation, health and education. Meshaal’s presence in the supreme Palestinian body will open the way for Tehran, Damascus and Hizballah to hold sway over Palestinian affairs, including peace diplomacy. The European Union and Olmert government have given the prospect of a Palestinian unity government a favorable reception, maintaining that it is the first step towards transforming Hamas from a terrorist to a political movement.

Abu Mazen and Haniyeh further agreed that –

1. Haniya would remain prime minister.

2. An informal long-term truce will be declared – and enforced by Fatah and Hamas – after Palestinian prisoners are released in exchange for the Israeli soldier Gideon Shalit.

3. Abbas will serve as Palestinian negotiator with Israel. Any accord he may reach will be put to referendum for ratification.

4. Hamas will not recognize Israel or any accords signed with the Jewish state.

Neither will Hamas accept the other Middle East Quartet condition, the renunciation of terror.

5. Palestinian leaders will rally European assistance for amending the Quartet’s conditions for acceptance of the new Palestinian government.

6. Hamas will be co-opted to the PLO and receive 45% representation.

7. Fatah will be awarded the foreign affairs, finance and interior portfolios.

DEBKAfile’s sources further reveal that when Abu Mazen took off for New York, Meshaal had still not come around to endorsing the agreement. Hamas was also holding out for a bigger slice of government:

A. A 60% share in the PLO’s ruling bodies reflecting its proportion of the national vote.

B. Veto power over ministerial appointments.

C. Abbas must give up control of Palestinian mass media and hand it over to a minister of information who is not a Fatah member. For these reasons, Abu Mazen announced a freeze on national unity talks before he left for the United Nations last week.

However, after his arrival, the Middle East Quartet, including the United States, decided to welcome a Palestinian unity government after all.

This was a jab at UNIFIL, the Lebanese army and the UN Security Council when he addressed a “victory rally” in the Dahya district of Beirut, the Hizballah stronghold, Friday, Sept 22. “We won’t release two captured Israeli soldiers exchange in a prisoner exchange!” Nasrallah said and called for a new government in Lebanon. Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri’s Shiite Amal adherents joined Hizballah followers at the rally of tens of thousands, which showed his power base as representing Lebanon’s largest community.

Tehran stands with our people, he shouted. As he spoke, black balloons festooned with Israeli flags floated overhead.

The Hizballah leader saluted Iran, Syria and Palestinians. He declared the Lebanon war was an American war aiming for gains for Israel – not the Lebanese people.

“We made the Israeli army’s four proudest brigades run like mice,” he bragged. The opinion polls just published in the Israeli press show who won the war and that Olmert was defeated, he said.

UK Minister: Hizballah’s Hiding Weapons in Civilian Areas Had Gone to “New Depths”

UK Foreign Office Minister Kim Howells told the UK Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee that Hizballah’s tactics in hiding weapons in civilian areas had gone to “new depths.” The minister alleged that Hizballah had hidden caches of arms in schools and mosques, and rockets in apartment blocks in southern Lebanon. “Every time the Israelis responded…and smashed a building down, every picture of a burnt child and every picture of a building that had housed people [where] there was now pancake on the ground was propaganda for Hizballah. And if an organization like Hizballah is ruthless enough to exploit those tactics, then one wonder how it can ever be possible in the future to, if you like, win the justice on your side against such an enemy.” (BBC News)

Israel will be the Tail in the Negev and the Head after Armageddon!

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, began at sundown on September 22 in Israel, and will end at nightfall on September 24 as a two day Holiday. There is an interesting parallel between two of the foods eaten during this period that relate to Israel being rid of all her enemies and being the “head” rather than the “tail” of the nations around her.

Whether or not Israel is the “tail” or the “head” of nations has always been in God’s hands, and is directly proportional to the degree of trust of faith they have in his word.

Deuteronomy 28:9-14 – The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways. [10] And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.

[11] And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of

thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee. [12] The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. [13] AND THE LORD SHALL MAKE THEE THE HEAD, AND NOT THE TAIL; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

[Many of the foods traditionally eaten on Rosh Hashanah have been selected based on puns of their Hebrew names.

Beets, named ‘selek” in Hebrew, share the root of the word “to get rid” of something. On beets, one says, “May it be Your…will that our adversaries be removed.”]

In a few years Israel will have her adversaries removed at Armageddon, after having lived as the “tail” nation since the destruction of the temple of Herod.

Israel rejected God’s Son as her Messiah to make herself the tail of nations ever since. She will still be the tail during the time of “Jacob’s Trouble” in the Negev, but will be delivered from it by God and placed as the head of nations for a thousand years.

It is ironic that Israel has suffered for some 2000 years as the persecuted “tail” of nations, is suffering now, and will soon suffer in the Negev for some three and one-half years, only to become the “head” of all nations after Armageddon when her “head,” the Messiah, returns to establish her as such for a thousand years. Yet, in the midst of all this, God’s hand has been “held out still” to Israel to accept Christ as Messiah.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Zechariah 13:8,9 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

[9] And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

Isaiah 9:6,7,13-17 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Following Armageddon, God will set Israel among all nations as the head of nations, and he shall be the glory of Israel among all nations.

Ezekiel 39:21-29 – And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

[22] So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward. [23] And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. [24] According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from

them. [25] Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; [26] After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. [27] When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; [28] Then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

[29] Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.

Israel will drive northward to take the Land Grant promised to them by Abraham. It will stretch as far north latitude as Hamath in Syria, as far south latitude as Kadesh, as far west as the Mediterranean and the River of Egypt, as far east as the Euphrates.

Genesis 15:18 – In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

Ezekiel 47:17 – And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

Ezekiel 47:19 – And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.

Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.
